Science in Hinduism 3: Time dilation theory written in Hindu Scriptures

0

We have already seen that ‘The Big Bang Theory’ and ‘Mass Energy Equivalence Theory’ were written in Hindu scriptures, well before the modern science revealed it. The interesting thing about Hindu scriptures is that; the more you will read logically; the more you will find the astonishing scientific facts. It will enhance further your interest thus you will get more and so on. Now, we will check if ‘Time Dilation Theory’ is written in Hindu Scriptures.

Let us start with an incident mentioned in Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran, 9th Skandh, Chapter 3, Shloka 27 to 34:

King Sharyati, scion of Ikshwaku, had three sons – Uttanbarhi, Aanart and Bhurishen. Raiwat was the offspring of Aanart. Raiwat had established a city Kushasthali within the sea and, ruled there along with neighboring countries Aanart etc.

Raiwat had 100 well capable and efficient sons and Kakudmi was the eldest amongst them. Kakudmi had a daughter – Raiwati. When Raiwati attained an age well enough to be married, King Kakudmi was concerned for it and visited Brahma-lok along with his daughter to consult Brahma for a suitable candidate (groom) for her. However, the time when he reached, Brahma-lok was busy in celebrating a ceremony. He waited for a short while to the end of celebration. After the ceremony got over, he bowed down in front of Brahma and discussed his concern. Hearing his concern, Brahma replied with laughing, ‘The candidates whom you are considering as probable groom for your daughter; are no more in earth, not even their son and grandson. Even the name of their descendants too is a matter of past now. All their descendants have extinct now with the time. Meanwhile during your visit, 27 Chaturyugi has been passed, and when you will return to earth you could meet Baldeo; an Anshavatar of the God; the elder brother of Lord Shri Krishna. He is the best one (groom) for your daughter.”

One could inculpate the scripture saying it utterly illogical and fictional – How irrational is the story?! How could it possible that during a short span of time, 27 Chaturyug would have been passed on earth? But wait. the one and only; who is unaware of time dilation theory; he could disapprove the scripture and could think this incident as impossible.

What is time dilation theory? The famous Time Dilation Theory is one of five concepts of relativity theory given by A. Einstein. We have already discussed one of five concepts  ‘Mass Energy Equivalence Theory’ in Hindu scriptures.

Time Dilation Theory says: Time dilation is a difference in the elapsed time measured by two observers, either due to a velocity difference relative to each other, or by being differently situated relative to a gravitational field.

In simple words, a clock that is moving relative to an observer will be measured to tick slower than a clock that is at rest in the observer’s own frame of reference. A clock that is under the influence of a stronger gravitational field than an observer’s will also be measured to tick slower than the observer’s own clock.

Theoretically, time dilation would make it possible for passengers in a fast-moving vehicle to advance further into the future in a short period of their own time. For sufficiently high speeds, the effect is dramatic. For example, one year of travel might correspond to ten years on Earth. And similarly, in a different gravitational field the time is different. In a strong gravitational field, the time is slower compared to less gravitational field.

Eventually, we could relate the scientific facts and the incident mentioned in scripture. King Kakudmi was in a relative motion with rest of the earth while he was travelling to Brahma-lok and returning to earth and was in a different gravitational field during his stay at Brahma-lok for a short while till his conversation with Brahma. Which led to slower his clock from rest of the world and meanwhile 27 Chaturyug passed on earth.

Here, one may ask for the archeological evidences for Kakudmi, Raiwati, Baldeo or Kushasthali, but being a mechanical engineer, the archeological evidences are of very less important for me. I do not much bother for the historical evidence, the concept is important for me. By this incident, it is evident that the writer of Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran was well know of the scientific fact – time dilation. One may inculpate here saying this a work of speculation or coincidence, but certainly it is not as another similar incident is mentioned in this book. In 10th Skandh, Chapter 51, Shloka 14 to 19. In these shlokas it is mentioned, Muchukand an offspring of Mandhata; another scion of Ikshwaku; was travelled to Devlok to assist them during Devasur Sangram (war). When Dev got Kartikeya as their military chief, they thanked Muchukand and relieved him from his duties. Muchukand returned to earth. Meanwhile on earth no one present of his time. All his relatives were a matter of past now. So, he decided to sleep in a lonely cave.

It proves that these stories are not at all a coincidence but certainly the writer is aware of this complex phenomenon of time dilation. Amazing scripture!! Amazing theory.

At the last, once again I am compelled to write, we must have to read the scriptures with a scientific view. The events and incidents written in these scriptures to be thoroughly examined. If the incidents seemed to be unscientific as per modern Science, we must do intense research on those, perhaps we could add a new dimension to modern Science with a new discovery, invention.

The WhyErr EXCLUSIVE: Kerala floods created by Modi to ensure RSS move Keralites to ghettos

0

Report by DuckFace.

The camp had young kids staring out from their hollow eyes. Women in burqa standing in queue for some food for their hungry kids. Men with cross dangling in their neck, toiling hard to get some share of Ethanol. Damp stench welcomed us as we stepped into the Malabarshcwitz camp.

“We were forcibly removed from our home by the water sent by Aryans. First, they invaded us, controlled us and now they have taken away our homes and has kept us here in this clumsy camps.”, said Ahmed, with tears garlanding his cheeks.

“Modi made sure that the rivers were formed to avenge us because we did not vote for BJP. Pinarayi Vijayan resisted rivers of Modi by holding the dam till the last minute. But the Brahmanical tide was too much to bear”, cried Mary Rose. “My home is gone. And now BJP wants to build homes for us. I am sure those homes will have anti-beef stove which will not cook beef and will have photos of anti-Christ at homes.”

RSS was quick enough to swing into action, as though it was a pre-planned pogrom. Modi sent clouds to Kerala, while it could have been sent to Gujarat or Rajasthan. Modi made it rain in the rivers while he could have made it rain in Thar desert or Sahara. But but, Sahara was Modi’s man, like Ambani and Adani, so Modi had sent rains to Kerala. Sending flood to Gujarat might have impacted Jay Shah’s business, which would have increased 160% otherwise. As soon as flood entered homes like how Amit Shah entered Kerala, RSS sent its Brown Shorts to fetch out Muslims and Christians from their homes. Choked by waters on all sides, the scared kids and limping elders were ushered into boats and packed off to concentration camps.

“BJP units have made sure that waters do not recede from homes. With Voter IDs missing, BJP will hack the EVM to win 2019 easily”, said Aneesh Menon, a political expert from Ernakulam.

While we left the camps, we were reminisced of the concentration camps run by Nazis in Germany under Hitler. Even there, many people did not appear at the camps after sometime. But here, the faces of the minorities stuck in those camps lingered forever in our eyes.

‘2 in 10 Communists rescued from Kerala floods by RSS will come back to kill them’- Thoo Research

0

Washington: Thoo Research, a company specialised in conducting research, while otherwise they would have not suffixed Research in their company name, has conducted a real survey of the people rescued from the recently submerged Kerala.

This survey was conducted across the relief camps in several parts of Kerala. The total respondents of this survey is populated as 500.

  • When asked about the efficiency of rescue missions, nearly 10% of the respondents have given thumbs up to Indian Army, while 30% favored Communists and 60% praised UAE government for rescuing them. Most of the respondents argued that ‘since most of the people of Kerala are in UAE, they did not get stuck in Kerala floods. This is a kind of proactive rescue done by the UAE government.’
  • When asked about the condition of refugee camps, nearly 5% felt satisfied, while 80% of them requested to be moved to the Passport office in Thiruvananthapuram, so that they would have applied Visa for UAE during their stay there. 15% of them said they came to refugee camps to have a look.
  • When asked about the role of RSS in rescue mission, 5% approved of their service. 75% of them believed that the RSS volunteers might have escaped this flood, but they will be killed very soon. A shocking 20% of the respondents, who identified themselves as Communists, affirmed that they will be the ones slaughtering those RSS workers once the waters recedes. Meanwhile, this 20% were actively searching for the 5% who spoke approvingly of RSS in the refugee camps with the help of 75%.
  • When asked about the party responsible for the floods, 5% of them blamed the State government for not opening the dams earlier, while 65% of them blamed the Modi government for punishing Kerala. 30% of them blamed the Jews.
  • When asked about returning back to normal life, 15% felt positive about going back to work, while 85% felt that this just feels like Bandh or strike which had happened for two weeks, instead of the usual alternate days every week.

Modicare – PM shows the will and way to achieve health reforms in India

0

The ambitious National Health Mission announced by the PM Modi recently is been questioned and doubted by several so called experts in health care sector and other dynasty culture following political parties. The insurance scheme is initially aimed to cover 10 crore families and 50 crore people. The scheme is IT enabled cashless in-patient coverage aimed to achieve quick medical care. The question of doubt stem mostly from the initial budget allocation for the scheme which is 10,000 crore with a possibility of the allocation may be increased to 20,000-30,000 crores.

The self-attested experts in health care sector feel that the actual fund needed for the scheme is as high as 2.5 to 3 lakh crore as the coverage rate (cost) indicated in the scheme for various medical procedures and interventions are far too low than the actual. All those who criticize and wonder the success of the proposed revolutionary insurance scheme conveniently wants to forget the fact that most important fact that most of the present day doctors and private hospitals are looting poor people by over-charging and subjecting the poor people to several unwanted diagnostic procedures and sometime even subjecting to needless surgeries.

The first task which the Prime Minister Modi set to accomplish was to fix harness to all those doctors and private hospitals that leech out poor man’s blood. The nexus between several doctors in private practice with pharma companies for mutual benefit is well known. Similarly several doctors having under- the-table dealing with different diagnostic centres is also well known. The above situation only has made the poor people to shell out their hard earned money for benefiting the ‘doctor-pharma-diagnostic centre syndicate’ than own benefit but unfortunately the poor people are made to believe that they are given the best treatment in such hospitals. The treatment cost is high because it is highly inflated by such dacoits in medical profession.

If the government can rationalize the treatments and unify the treatment cost across India and punish all those offenders by suspending their registration, the insurance scheme proposed by Modi govt. with the initial fund allocated for the same shall be surplus than being insufficient.

None of the so called health experts wants to criticize the overcharging and all notorious money minting practices of several doctors in private practice and the private hospitals but instead show great generosity to the path-breaking, revolutionary scheme initiated by Modi govt.

The insurance coverage of 5 lakh launched by the government appears to be small purely because of the over and hyper inflated treatment cost by all those engaged in unethical medical practice and looting the poor people by exploiting their anxiety and innocence.

Most of the doctors want to rely on various machine based diagnosis these days than studying carefully the symptoms of the patient, age, food habit, social factors, economic status and other details to arrive the diagnosis.  Nothing wrong in relaying on accurate and non-subjective methods of diagnosis so the treatment can be specific and focused. But subjecting poor people to enormous economic burden by pushing them to various unnecessary diagnostic procedures and justifying such practice as a part of accurate diagnosis or prudent medical practice is quite inhumane and needs to be condemned. Such medical practitioners are bane to humanity.

In how many occasions the doctor and private clinics are genuine in subjecting the poor patients to costly diagnostic procedures just for accurate diagnosis than for earning more money, each doctor must ask their conscience.

Government is committed to ensure better health care delivery system to poor people.

Modiji being a leader born in a poor family in a village understand the needs of poor people better than the dynasts have done nothing either to the country or for themselves but have inherited the political legacy. That is why Modiji has launched the most ambitious program especially for poor people.

Considering the commitment of the present government in general and Modiji in particular to reach assured health care delivery system to poor people, the private doctors and private hospitals must come forward voluntarily to offer their noble service to humanity than converting their role as brokers and commission agents in health care service.   The insurance coverage and the budget allocation is quite sufficient to begin with if everyone in the health care service system acts responsibly and value and respect the real distress of poor. Time has come every Indian must think of India and to save India, the vision and mission of Modiji must continue therefore India need Modiji in 2019 and beyond.

Can birth control work to curb population explosion? The statistics suggests otherwise

0

As per the last available data, our population is increasing at a rate of 1.2% that is 1,58,90,056 (15 million) more people every year. This is more than the population of countries like Portugal (10 million), Belgium (11 million), Austria (8 Million) Switzerland (8 million) and many more. Very soon we would be a proud nation with the largest population in the world. Is it feasible to create 1.5 crore (15 million) meaningful jobs every year? 15 million for one year, approximately the same number or may be a little less for the previous year, and the year previous to that and so on and so on for the last 70 years. Do we have infinite resources?

Before jumping to the ways to curtail the population growth rate, it is imperative to identify the different factors that contribute to the population growth. The reason which almost everyone comes up is a high birth rate. Of course, this is one reason, but is it the biggest one? Are there other factors? What are they? Which of the factors should be considered first?

The finest example of birth rate not being the sole reason for population growth is the current list of National Register of Citizens in the state of Assam with a population of 31 million. There are approximately 4 million people who are not in the list, even if we assume some of them would be able to append their names in the list by the stipulated time, still there will be millions who are not Indians. Bangladesh and India share a 4,156 km (2,582 mi)-long international border, the fifth-longest land border in the world, including 262 km (163 mi) in Assam, 856 km (532 mi) in Tripura, 180 km (110 mi) in Mizoram, 443 km (275 mi) in Meghalaya, and 2,217 km (1,378 mi) in West Bengal. If we simply look at the numbers, we can extrapolate the number of  people  with “doubtful” nationality status in the states mentioned above. 4 million out of 31 million turns out to be 12.9% of the people with doubtful nationality as per the current NRC. If we use the same factor on the state of West Bengal, which hosts a population of 90 million, the number of people with doubtful nationality comes out to be 11.6 or 11 million. Moreover, the population statistics available are from the 2011 census i.e. the numbers are 7 years old. Also to keep in mind is that this number is extremely conservative simply because the length of the porous border WB shares with the neighboring country is roughly 8.4 times more than what Assam shares and so logically, more number of people would have crossed the border. You could do the basic mathematics for all the other states sharing their borders in the similar fashion and come to a number.  Further, Bangladesh came into existence post ’71 which means not all the migrants are from Bangladesh. I think you can guess the nationality of the some of the older migrants.

I made following observations regarding population growth rate and fertility rate in India on the basis of the data available on the internet. Just enter birth rate India in google search and you will find the images pasted below (on the left, the dark blue line indicates the birth rate; the blue dot on the line indicates the year in consideration and is given in the red rectangle; the red rectangle on the extreme right gives the annual change in population growth rate).

  • The fertility rate in 1964 was 5.86 births per women and the population growth rate was 2.1% (top part of the image)
  • Although the fertility rate linearly decreased to 4.89 births per women  till the year 1979 but the population growth rate actually increased to 2.4%. (center part of the image)
  • According to the last part of the image, the fertility rate decreases and so does the population growth rate (which is how the numbers should ideally look).
Statistics showing the data of women fertility and population changes

The question that comes to my mind: should the population growth rate decrease with the decreasing birth rate or fertility rate? Is it possible that the population growth rate actually increases with falling birth rate? If yes, how?

In addition to this, according to BBC news“During the 1975 Emergency – when civil liberties were suspended Sanjay Gandhi, son of the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, began what was described by many as a “gruesome campaign” to sterilize poor men. There were reports of police cordoning off villages and virtually dragging the men to surgery An astonishing 6.2 million Indian men were sterilized in just a year, which was “15 times the number of people sterilized by the Nazis”, according to science journalist Mara Hvistendahl. Two thousand men died from botched operations.” Some sources also say between June 25, 1975 and March 1977, an estimated 11 million men and women were sterilized using such tactics. Another 1 million women were inserted with IUDs.

Even with two full-fledged wars (1965 and 1971) and millions forceful sterilization, the population growth rate increased till 1979. What happened between 1964 and 1979? Why did the population grow in-spite of decreasing birth rate? The entire future generations of millions of native Indians were wiped off in the name of population control and yet at the very same time, illegal migrants were overlooked and allowed to settle.  Was this population control measure (forceful sterilization) by Mr. Gandhi a cover-up for some demographic mess up? Was it a master plan for building a loyal vote bank at the cost of lives of native Indians as the forced sterilization was mostly targeted in UP, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Rajasthan. Conceivably this is the reason why people panic as soon as they hear birth control from a government source. Adding to all this, illegal migrants have more kids simply because they are uneducated and poor. And you cannot debate if the educated people have more kids or the uneducated ones.

Straightforward question, what is the contribution of illegal immigration on the population growth in India? I don’t say that it is the sole reason or it is the most leading contributor, all I am saying is that it is definitely a contributor. And if we are earnestly seeking solutions to a problem we should know all the factor responsible for  the problem. Once all the factors are listed with their exact contribution towards the problem we can proceed further. On the basis of resources available, the time required, finances required so on and so forth we could prioritize them and start fixing them one by one.

NRC is an opportunity to resolve something that should not have occurred in the first place or should have been resolved three decades ago. And the states mentioned above are not the only states in India, once you enter any state, you can live in any of the 29 states and 7 union territories.  This makes me wonder if an activity like NRC is required in all 36 entities in India. And when I say NRC, by no means I imply that the people who are not citizens should be thrown out, there are more than enough humanitarian ways to tackle this. NRC is the only way to list people of different nationalities so that we can actually work on population explosion issue.

Right now, we are at the Square 1 of the population explosion problem. The only thing as of now we certainly know is that there is a problem and a major problem and if we don’t do anything about this there are going to be serious repercussions. Resources are limited. We don’t know where the problem is, what the problem is but are simply trying to fix the problem. How would you feel if you visit a doctor and he starts the treatment without even asking what the problem is?

Forceful sterilization is not the way to go towards this problem, infact it is the Congress’ way of doing things. Congress is incapable of doing anything good for the country simply because they are always lead by minds from one family who are interesting in power more than anything else, they create bigger and more complex problems for the future generations. If the immigrant influx was stopped right then, the NRC issue would not have happened at all. And having done things like these, they still have the audacity to say the ruling party does not execute and implement things after careful planning. I guess they would have a complete documentation of all the legal-illegal people in India along with other factors affecting the population growth before they started cutting open the native Indians.  They should share their findings with media or post them on the internet because it would be very helpful for the ruling government in speeding up the process.

Invasive measures like sterilization should be the last resort once everything has been tried and tested.

If you find some merit in this article, please stay connected for my next blog regarding my ideas of controlling population growth rate without a body snatching sterilization program. Till then please visit my personal blog Infinite Sea Of Opportunities

Let us not forget the philosophy of AYUSH in the world proven science

0

Down the line the sacred philosophical constructs of AYUSH is evaporating of course not due to global warming.  The evidence based science; especially the allopathic system and its amazing developments are largely perceived and viewed as a threat to AYUSH fundamentals. But the truth is different. How much ever science advances and the allopathic system evolve, but still human values and the essence of wellness shall remain immortal and such values, the modern science cannot offer to mankind.

It means AYUSH shall remain immortal like the lines of John Keats Ode on a Grecian Urn:
“Thou still unravish’d bride of quietness,
Thou foster-child of silence and slow time,
Sylvan historian, who canst thus express”

Life thrives not only on the strict definitions of science but life is also rooted deeply in certain philosophical values and belief systems. Therefore having belief systems, positive thinking, faith, mutual help and recognition are essential for life. Scientific rationale alone will not make life possible on earth.

AYUSH is a wonderful capsule of wellness philosophy evolved over time through observation and experience sharing between people. The success of modern man not lies in his scientific advancement of what he is today but it is due to the successful survival and propagation of the pre-historic man from the era of no science to modern day.

In fact until independence AYUSH was a progressive wisdom passed onto next generation from the previous one as Guru– Shishya Parampara (गुरुशिष्य परम्परा). But after independence it was institutionalized to develop the system further. But it looks like the institutionalization has brought more harm to the system than any good. The institutionalization has certainly created a new challenge to the graduates to prove that they are as good as allopathic graduates. Unfortunately much time was spent on proving superiority than developing the system.

The rampant cross pathy by several institutionally qualified AYUSH Vaidyas in private practice in rural India shows how the modern day AYUSH vaidyas have drifted away from the sacred thread of AYUSH and its wonderful philosophy.

It is so unfortunate that some Siddha vaidyas in Tamil Nadu defend cross pathy and justify it.  Ironically such Siddha vaidyas when asked to explain about own system they fail to explain own philosophy proving that they have learned their system poorly.

To remain healthy, we need strong wisdom about how to remain healthy and not how many super specialized doctors and clinics are there to treat our health problem. AYUSH is one stop solution for human wellness.  It has rich pre-health and paramedical recipes and all such recipes are immortal.  Self-discipline, diet regimen to be followed in different seasons, dress code according to weather conditions, importance of treating food as drug are some of the death-less wellness recipes of AYUSH.

Science could see and investigate life only in compartments but AYUSH always value the philosophy of holism or totality of human mind and body. If the modern day AYUSH vaidyas in private practice realize the rich wellness treasures of AYUSH they need not compete or prove anything to anyone instead even the allopathic doctors would go to them for wellness recipes of AYUSH.

AYUSH has lots to offer to humanity than to prove anything to anyone. This cardinal message the AYUSH vaidyas in private practice must recognize and respect. Once they imbibe the above truth, they can offer their service to humanity through the ancient wisdom of AYUSH than migrating to cross pathy, prescribe various allopathic drugs with hearsay knowledge and finally demean own system as well as risk the life of poor patients in rural India.

AYUSH is a treasure house of wellness philosophy and recipes.  When we attempt convert such wisdom as product of modern day science, it is being questioned ruthlessly. The science of AYUSH is belief and is faith centric i.e. in the philosophy of universe and existence of life in total form. Wellness of body can be achieved only by programming the mind and AYUSH has all necessary tools to programme the mind.

AYUSH vaidyas in private practice therefore must use their sacred knowledge and training for wellness of humanity and not for competing to prove AYUSH is medical science. Medical science exist only for health and wellness therefore wellness and health should be the focus and not proving whether AYUSH is scientific or not. Cross pathy by AYUSH practitioners in private must end for the progress of the system. Modiji is doing everything possible to promote the system to build a healthy India.

This is why communists tried to spread hate while Kerala drowned in floods

0

Ayn Rand famously said that “There is no difference between communism and socialism, except in the means of achieving the same ultimate end: communism proposes to enslave men by force, socialism — by vote. It is merely the difference between murder and suicide.”

In Kerala, with the unholy trio of Communists, Islamists and Congress, there is a triple murder.

Kerala – purportedly the most literate state of India – is now the de facto last global bastion of Communism, which has failed all over the world, even in erstwhile USSR, the fountainhead. Well, China is now virtually just a capitalist nation under military rule, still pretending to be communist!

Two important covert facets of Communism – Elimination of the opposition, and Propaganda for the masses – define most of the ruling party’s strategy. Almost 150-200 workers of the Right Wing opposition (BJP/RSS) have been killed over the recent past, just to keep the opposition out of competition. The infamous case of mafia-style cutting of the hands of an opposing professor is well known.

Now, as the opposition increasingly resists this, the Communists are playing the victim card. That’s where the second strategy comes in. The party has invested in Left-wing media heavily who, while even sitting in far-off Canada and Europe, continue to divert the narrative from genuine issues to the usual fault lines of religion, caste and Dravidian.

Sustained propaganda has made the typical Keralite obsessed with the usual Leftist narratives of pseudo-secularism etc. No surprise then that even as flood relief and rescue were in progress, the Leftist media were already focussing on Hindu-Muslim, Aryan-Dravidian and North-South Indian narratives.

A fake report about UAE offering 700 crores was created in a synchronised twitter campaign to embarass India. As also a fake comparison of contributions of states to Kerala showing no contributions from BJP states.

This is the state where the CM misuses relief funds in private helicopter ride, rejects the Environmental Conservation report (which contributed to the erosions), communist leaders go out of state to celebrate Onam because of the floods, and even the famous “why I am a Hindu” MP (Tharoor) fails to come back from foreign trips because the floods are minor, and then goes to UN to cry for UN relief. Relief material coming in from other states are being packed in CPI marked sacks to grab the credit.

Instead, all the state government has done throughout this tragic spate of events is try to project that the Centre is against Keralites in order to create a sense of persecution. Surprisingly, a lot of educated Keralites believe this tirade, which only indicates the effect of Communist propaganda and hints at a sense of insecurity.

This is the state where the so-called prosperity has come from doing menial work in the Gulf, living under Shariat law where hands of Keralites for minor offenses have been often cut. Well, how is it different from Laloo’s Biharis working all over India as labourers. No scope for employment is all it means. But the communist CM takes this is a matter of pride!

One report indicates that there is one NGO for every 95 Keralaites, which indicates the serious gap between requirement and the government’s fulfillment of these. 97.5% of the farmers were not even insured through PM’s Fasal Bima Yojana because the state deliberately did not deliberately implement it in order to allow any credit to the Centre.

This is the state which was the furthermost away from the countless invasions that have wounded India over centuries, but is the most affected by external forces today, be it theocratic or political. This is the state which encourages radicals who provoke other religions by holding beef-eating festivals. This is the state where the court questions the conversion of over 6000 Hindus and Christains (mostly women to Islam), especially the problem in Malappuram and Kozhikode areas. This is purportedly the most literate state of India – by implication more liberal – where women sit behind purdah in classrooms and sexually repressed males line up like beggars when a porn star-turned-actress visits the state.

The communists of Russia and China taught their countrymen to love their own country. Ours taught their country men to love Russia and China, and hate own. Nowhere else is truer than Kerala.

A first hand account of listening to Rahul Gandhi and his ideas at LSE

(This article is based on my views on someone who is projected as a future Prime Minister of India, in sections, that have been put devoid of satire, while certain other sections of this article are satirical. The intent is not as much to take a personal jibe at anyone as it is to highlight the fallacies in the arguments put forward by Mr. Gandhi in the interaction event held at the London School of Economics on 24th August 2018, where I went as a delegate representing Cambridge University. This article is not to either support or negate any individual or political party, but to understand some nuances that I feel like discussing.)

Rahul Gandhi came to study at Cambridge shortly after the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi: a point he made it a point to highlight recently. The “red book”, which lists Cambridge University members, lists him as: “VINCI, Rahul T MPHIL95”.

An interesting alias (albeit probably required for security reasons). What I recently observed though and that stuck in my mind was this smile of his, much like the Mona Lisa smile, that made an appearance at his appearance in London School of Economics (LSE). Enigmatic and, in his case, somewhat mistimed.

He was invited for a session on ‘Perspectives’, an interaction session in the Townhall format. Except that it was, in spurts, a monologue and briefly a dialogue and Q&A, punctuated by some dramatic walks across the stage (to show a more approachable-in-the-Clinton-esque-way side?) as he touched upon everything from social justice to development and secularism.

It was on a topic of concern and interest to many (most probably when he was discussing agricultural reforms) that he let slip the smile. A fleeting moment. What it, however, showed was that this was a man who appears to be well-meaning and probably a genuine, sincere person at heart, but someone who is arguably not quite equipped in various ways to commandeer India on the troubled waters it faces on many fronts.  In this short article, I will look at what all was problematic in what he said, besides looking at the (few) positives in his speech.

The Brighter Side?

Mr. Gandhi is definitely trying. He is trying very hard to understand the nitty-gritties and nuances of administration and statecraft. He is trying quite hard to explore topics that he would need to if he ever happens to become the Prime Minister of India.

I recently read an article that said that he is apparently on a massive drive to educate himself. Educate himself on issues relating to four major topics: agriculture, job creation, health and education. These four areas are said to be the chief thrust of the Congress manifesto and of the government if a Congress-led force is elected to power next year. The Congress president has apparently held in-depth discussions with subject experts and stakeholders over the past six months and many more are lined up.

Commendable!

In his speech at LSE, he mentioned the need to create jobs and support farmers in the best manner possible. He also sought a society where dissent is allowed and discussions are free-flowing. Not to forget, he mentioned the need for decentralization of power.

All commendable again!

Except that his was a monologue in reaction. A reactive commentary on what was not right and what needs to be changed, which is important in its own right. And possibly that could suffice as the only content of your speech, if not for the ardent desire of some leaders to see Mr. Gandhi lead the country. Except if you were not asked to frame the policies and programs for the people of the country. Then one needs to be proactive and not reactive all the time. So let us see some of the traces of proactive ideas that he mentioned.

He did mention about the need to allow the farmers to decide for themselves what they feel would help them best. When asked about the Swaminathan Report, which is a seminal report on changes in the agriculture sector, he repeated this idea. Allowing farmers to decide for themselves is important for a participatory democracy and no one denies that.

But there are certain problems when one makes that the primary driver of policy. As much as farmers can know the ground realities and local issues that they face, there are structural reforms and technological inputs that sometimes need to be tackled in a larger way. Possibly even top down in cases. And that is not necessarily a bad thing if the result of the same is beneficial to the farmers.

Yes, GM crops did not succeed in Maharashtra. Yes, a fair few structural reforms have not yielded optimal results in recent times. But then again many points raised during the Green Revolution were top-down and not bottoms-up. They were a strategist’s overhaul of the way in which agriculture was carried out and the manner in which it was supported. Rahul Gandhi went on to discuss how imports were a convenient way to sideline fundamental systemic reforms required within agriculture that the Modi government has been evading this way.

Not quite!

I would like to bring the readers attention to the recent ‘Agriculture Exports’ policy of the current NDA government. Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of India’s 72nd Independence Day, Modi spelt out pro-farm measures taken during four years of his government, the cornerstone being the bold move to fix the minimum support price (MSP) of crops at least 1.5 times of the cost of production.

The government recently announced the minimum support price of kharif (summer-sown) crops and hiked the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for paddy by a record Rs 200 per quintal. The MSPs of other kharif crops were also raised sharply to help fulfil its poll promise to give farmers 50% more rate than their cost of production. Signs are encouraging.

There are new avenues that farmers are engaging in, like blue revolution and bee-keeping. Solar farming is also on the rise. India is currently the second largest fish producer in the world and is poised to soon occupy the top position! Not to forget, agricultural exports are also at their highest in three years with commodities worth $38.74 billion exported in the first quarter of this fiscal year.

He also mentioned that India faces a full-blown job crisis but very little on how he wanted to solve it. I have heard (and read) recently that he seeks to promote small-scale businesses and firms. But a substantial road-map still remains to be seen. He also touched upon healthcare without saying much on what need be done according to him. One can only hope that he does not try to link MRI machines across the country, as he once famously wanted to!

Partition, Dynastic Politics and 2019

Not many Congress chiefs had it in them to admit that partition was a mistake. Rahul Gandhi did so at the LSE event! I have always felt so as well since before 1947, every village and every city in India had Hindus and Muslims living together in harmony. Before the Raj started using communal tension as a tool for their divide-and-rule policy, there was a certain Hindustani culture that borrowed elements (such as cultural, linguistic and political) from various people including Hindus and Muslims. However, since there is no point of pondering over that now, this simple act of admission of a mistake that was done under a Congress government was interesting and quite mature of Rahul Gandhi.

The very first question that the fairly Left-leaning Dr. Mukulika Banerjee, who was conducting the conversation, posed was regarding what made Rahul Gandhi eligible and good for the post of the president of the Indian National Congress, besides his family. He began discussing his familiarity with violence. Violence meted out to his family members, including the assassinations of his grandmother and father.

As much as that is unfortunate, I personally believe that it does not make him eligible to be propped up the way he has been in a farcical display of internal democracy in the Indian National Congress (where he was ‘elected’ president unopposed). I feel the reason a Gandhi has to be president of the party for the party to survive is due to the various local satraps and leaders who would never stay together, given their egos and personal ambitions, unless brought together by the historically powerful Gandhi family. That is the reality of the matter and I would not mince words to state this.

However, the ironic bit is that the element that may keep the party together very well may lead to doom for the party as well, if electoral performances are to be seen. A student from Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh once famously approached the Guinness Book of World Records to include the Rahul Gandhi’s name for losing a record 27 elections!

The question remains that even though Congress-led governments have taken certain very good initiatives (such as MNREGA and RTI), why is that people do not want to repose faith in them? Is it because of the feeling that they have not done enough in the decades of rule that they had? Or is it just because of the  flurry of scams that the last Congress-led government had? I would say it is a bigger problem, as I was discussing with a friend of mine – Tanweer. It is a problem that liberals and the Left faces worldwide. The problem of the lack of myth to mobilize people around.

Human beings have historically mobilized brilliantly around myths and myth-making. Nationalism is a human construct and myth that immediately evokes a strong sense of belonging-ness, and the Right taps into this to gain support of people. The Congress at one point had the Indian independence struggle as what drove people en masse into its folds. But after independence, the lack of ideas, direction and myths is a serious problem that the Congress has been facing in varying degrees over the years ever since Indira Gandhi was at the helm of matters.

A party that is very good at organization and mobilizing people has been the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), the ruling party of India. Rahul Gandhi touched upon the RSS-BJP combine, saying that in the 2019 General Elections, it shall be BJP on one side and the entire Opposition on the other. Given the state performances in recent times and the presence of allies in the NDA fold, this may not necessarily be a cause of alarm among BJP circles.

What was, however, more interesting was the way in which Rahul Gandhi mentioned that the Congress and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) are ideas; ideas that encapsulate older ideas that have been in conflict for ages; a conflict between the idea of centralization of power and knowledge (as, he purported, the RSS and BJP were prone to do) and the decentralization of power and knowledge (that he said the Congress stood for). This grand statement needs to be taken with a pinch of salt.

The Congress fold has never been this rosy with internal democracy having been broken as much by Mahatma Gandhi (during Netaji’s ouster and the making of Nehru as India’s first Prime Minister  even though the state units of the Congress wanted Sardar Patel to have the position) as by Indira Gandhi (who broke away from the original Congress party when she faced dissent).

Power has been concentrated in the Nehru-Gandhi family for over four decades now. On the other hand, problematic as some of BJP’s positions are, it has one of the most well-oiled organizations on the ground. The level of internal democracy is a tad bit more arguably, although even within the BJP there are issues such as the interference of the Sangh at times, which has been both good (when leaders  in the BJP became too haughty or obstinate on policy matters that may not have been productive) and bad (in being the big-brother-figure who appointed people within the BJP sans elections for those positions) at various points.

2019 seems to be heading Modi’s way, albeit with a possible lowering of seats atleast in states like Uttar Pradesh, and sources within the party mention that this is understood within the party as well. What can be a face-saver for the Congress is an alliance of federal state-level parties that have flourished.

Decentralization, Federalism and Legislators

Rahul Gandhi repeatedly highlighted the importance of decentralization and federalism. Following on from the discussion above, this seems to be the only way in which the BJP may be countered. However, bitter memories of alliances in the mid 1990s could ring alarm bells in certain circles. The country faced a period of instability and political volatility. Only time will tell what shall happen in the 2019 elections.

Saying that BJP is either oblivious or deliberately evasive on the topic of ‘federalism’ will be a gross misrepresentation of facts. In fact, Modi has been quite a proponent of federalism himself, having emerged as a state leader first. His recent overhaul of the Planning Commission to institute the NITI Aayog is a step that reinforces this idea. All the Chief Ministers of the states are part of this initiative, and in fact this dedication to decentralization is often said to be the Achilles Heel of this initiative since the elaborate discussions and dialogue on various topics can be slow and a tad bit inefficient at times.

Today, even though the Congress has strong state leaders in some states of India (and, in fact, survives because of them), they have lost the organization strength and capability to either learn about the people’s concerns or communicate their ideas and policies effectively to the masses. There was a time when the Sewa Dal was the cadre-based wing of the Congress that had an eerily-similar uniform as the RSS but today it has no presence and relevance. Even on question raised on organization, there was no mention of the Sewa Dal by the Congress president!

Rahul Gandhi spoke of empowering the youth and having more smart people in the party, in particular, and politics, in general, but as someone who just about belongs to that section of society, I do not find the signs within the Congress encouraging. The apparent need to align with the Nehru-Gandhi family to succeed in the party is problematic. India no longer has a monarchy and yet has a new-age monarchy in this dynastic rule, of sorts, that continues. Today leaders like Jyotiraditya Scindia, Sachin Pilot and Jitin Prasad may be as good as Rahul Gandhi, if not better in certain ways, but they do not seem to have a chance to ever reach the top within the party, even on merit. That is the most problematic part of the Congress and an element that makes the party archaic in its projection.

Rahul Gandhi also touched upon the idea of legislators and the need for empowering them. He said that the Members of Parliament (MPs) are not given as much powers as they should have and the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is running the show. Faux pas! The constitution has checks and balances for this to never be the case and I personally feel that Rahul Gandhi got confused between the legislature and the executive.

Some people do purport that the executive is being run by the PMO but that allegation has never been put on the legislature, probably and simply because it is not possible. Not only will there be a massive uproar in the parliament but the government can be brought to court if this were the case. It was surprising that no one raised an objection on that (I could not since the coordinators had a certain tendency of selecting LSE students for Q&A, haha; sanitised much?).

He definitely needs to get a course on the wings of the government! The problem with the level and quality of debate in the parliament is as much due to the disturbances created within as much as it is due to the purported lack of powers in the MPs.

In conclusion

As much as I appreciate the manner in which Rahul Gandhi raised red flags (no pun intended) on problems with the Right to Information (RTI) Act under the BJP government and a general concern with the state of affairs in the country, I simply failed to get a coherent action plan that he and his party will pursue to lead the country to the grandiose ideas of inclusive development that they seek.

Forget about questions of decolonisation, proportional representation and the Bangladeshi refugee problem (all of which I wanted to ask but could not due to the manner in which the Q&A was held), Rahul Gandhi was unable to tell me what India under Rahul Gandhi will do on the job front, on the issue of accessible healthcare for all, on the question of education for all and the proper enforcement of RTI (which remains a problem).

Rahul Gandhi may be proud that Indian MPs in the UK parliament are involved in making laws in a parliament that once made the laws for the functioning of India, but there is a lot there needs to be done to also present a coherent foreign policy by the Congress. Not to forget, the reason the answer to the question raised on when the next women prime minister will be seen in India is probably not soon is because of the encumbering dynastic politics of the Congress, as it stands.

Surely, there remains a lot behind the enigmatic Mona Lisa smile of Rahul Vinci. What remains to be seen is how much substance there is in the enigma that he remains.

First by the flood, and then by CM of the state, Kerala has been disfigured

0

A dirty and heinous politics appears to be being played by the Chief Minister of Kerala over the relief aid of 700 crore reported to have been announced by UAE to the state. The aid was never announced by the UAE, but it was claimed that it is being denied by Prime Minister Modi. This has disgraced not only the dignity of the office of Chief Minister of the state but also brought disgrace to our nation. At international level, such politics by CM of Kerala has shown India in a poor light.

In fact through such an act the CM of the state has mocked, sniggered and giggled at millions of people of Kerala who have lost almost everything. No human being with a grain of commitment, sense and righteousness should add fuel to the fire when people are under great distress. The act of CM of Kerala is shocking.

The admission of CM of Kerala later, that a businessman from UAE has telephoned to him that UAE administration has told the Indian counterpart about the 7000 crore aid, is even worse. How can a CM use such juvenile justifications?

It looks like the vested interests want to position Kerala against India so that they can play murky politics of divide and rule. Playing politics during election season is well known but can the CM of Kerala afford it when the state is under disaster?

The communist party of India used to carry the words of Alfred Lord Tennyson in their magazine they used to release years ago – Opinion. It said:

“the deep moans round with many voices. Come, my friends,
Tis not too late to seek a newer world”

The question millions of affected Keralites wants to ask the Honourable Chief Minister of Kerala is that is this way a new Kerala the communist party and the Chief Minister of Kerala seeks especially when the entire state of Kerala is mourning due to unprecedented flood?

Can’t the CM of Kerala find some other occasion to demean our PM instead to causing another disaster in Kerala, which already been battered by the flood?

The above questions India should ask not to the communist party or the Chief Minister of Kerala but to those people of Kerala who have lost everything. Do they need the same party to rule them and ruin the state? If the people of Kerala are ready for a change, Kerala can be rebuild as strong, vibrant, envious state again. But definitely such Kerala is not going to be possible even in imagination if the same destructive and lie selling political establishment continues.

Indians in general and people of Kerala in particular must ask their inner conscience – will India be save and prosperous if such political parties come to power in 2019?
