Anti-Trafficking Bill: Is agency coerced or not?

0

The recently tabled Anti-Trafficking Bill seems to have brought to the fore debates around sex trafficking in India. While the supporters of the Bill focus on how it curbs trafficking of all trafficked individuals, the non-supporters believe that the enactment of the Bill will further marginalise vulnerable communities, such as consenting sex workers. Recently, a petition was also written to the Union Minister regarding the same. Against this backdrop, in this article, I shall focus on understanding the question of agency in commercial sexual exploitation, while outlining its broader understanding to include forced labour.

What does the recent unionisation mean?
The recent unionisation of the so-called “feminist” organisations working on sex work illustrate what happens when we fail to recognise that people are agents, where being an agent means both being constituted by an impossibly intricate network of experiences and having any number of stories of one’s own to tell. Noticeably, the usage of the prefix “so-called” is intentional here and its reasons are two-fold. First, it is incorrect to assume that a single-blanket definition can contain a wide range of subjective realities of marginalised identities. Second, I used the prefix “so-called “because it appears as if the real essence of feminism is lost in trying to be a “feminist”, as validated by a handful opinionated pupil. The true essence of “Agency” is also lost in the process of imposing your own ideas of freedom and unfreedom on another set of marginalised women, enchaining them by these imposed false ideals of “feminism” and “agency”.

I contend that this recent unionisation is based on blindness to the agency of others by an assumption that agency is equivalent to perfect freedom of choice or to the absence of coercion. Many so-called “feminists” attempt at harbouring this kind of defining narrative. Essentially, this voice by a handful learned individuals is substituting a single story for the complex and heterogeneous stories of many marginalised women and their unique struggles. It fails to see the constituent unit of this voice as an independent voice in itself, in other words—exercising power. And this power of the privileged class, the civil society, who has the platform to voice opinions, whiffs of a vested interest coupled with lack of desire to actually protect the victims of commercial sexual exploitation.

What is the existing policy framework?
It is vital to rethink the discourse on trafficking by moving beyond the binary of “forced” and “voluntary” sex work and instead, focusing on getting ahead with anti-trafficking interventions that decriminalizes women in sex work regardless of how they got there.

The PALERMO protocol gives out a detailed set of definitions of trafficking, and consent. From the Article 3, it is also understood that even the consent to be engaged in any process that is exploitative in its very nature including prostitution and other forms of sexual exploitation is no consent. Such consent arising out of the “position of vulnerability” or “after giving or taking of payment or benefit to achieve the consent” is not by free will and is no consent as per the International Labour Organisation, Convention 29 on Forced Labour, also ratified by India, defines forced labour as:
“Forced or compulsory labour is all work or service which is exacted from any person under the menace of any penalty and for which the said person has not offered himself voluntarily.”

Both these international instruments are binding by the Constitution. Moreover traffic has already been accepted in the Indian Constitution as a form of Forced Labor with Article 23 :
“Traffic in human beings and ‘begar’ and other similar forms of forced labor are prohibited and any contravention of this provision shall be an offence punishable in accordance with law.”

The Constitutional mandate being very clear that “traffic in human beings” is a form of “forced labour” and also that any violation of Article 23 has to be a punishable offence.

What is Agency?
The dichotomy conferred in debates on “forced” v/s “voluntary” hangs on a very slender thread in India. These policy mandates have been arrived at by analyzing the existing situation of the country where choices are expressed and operationalised as more akin to “forced choices”, since the positioning within particular discourses makes the “chosen” line of action the only possible action. The social edifice based on an individual’s gender, caste, class and ethnicity is a major push factor for women engaged in commercial sexual exploitation. In times like these when we open ourselves to debates on whether sex work is voluntary or forced, it is imperative to highlight that especially in the Indian context, the distinction between trafficking and consensual entry may be extremely blurred. Frederick (Evans and Bhattarai 2000) highlights, the social, familial and economic circumstances that drive women to choose to enter sex work and subsequently end up trafficked may be the same.

The research by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) of India also reveals that 100% of the victims were trafficked at some point or another, though many expressed inability to come out of their situations only due to non- availability of options for sustained livelihood. This is clearly indicative of the fact that even if we acknowledge that people in sex work do have a capacity for agency, it has lots to do with the social context in which one lives. Therefore, trafficking in human beings must be treated as forced labour, according to Article 23 and thus, considered a separate issue for which existing laws related to trafficking are sought to be strengthened through the new Bill.

The so called “feminists” supporting the Petition forget that being devoid of informed consent or agency means that there is an external force, latent or manifest that is being applied to prompt the desired action. In India, ‘force’, has been defined by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India as:

“….Any factor, which deprives a person of a choice of alternatives and compels him to adopt one particular course of action may properly be regarded as ‘force’ and if labour or service is compelled as a result of such ‘force’ it would be ‘forced labour’…”

A lot of talks have been done around the idea of agency. But what is this agency or choice? And how does it intertwine with the idea of “force” as described above? It should be highlighted here that the existing idea of agency is fundamentally flawed. According to Judith Bulter’s performance of gender theory, social actions based on gender norms affect identity and thus individual agency. She argues that while gender is at the core of performance that does not mean that these performances in the form of social actions are a choice. Individuals are conceived as being in relation to something external to themselves called “social facts” (society) which acts forcefully upon them ( Durkheim, 1964). They are created by constant social interactions and cultural cues that continuously reinforce / repeat to the point where they are treated and believed as if true.

The value-loaded term- “Sex work”
The suffix “work” has value loaded subtext which may have a positive connotation. As has been mentioned, only a miniscule proportion is making “voluntary” choices but their choices are uninformed. Therefore, the word “sex work” is in violation of the rights of the person subjected to sexual exploitation. Also the use of a value neutral terminology takes away the force of the Constitutional mandate by allowing demand creating factors/ persons to get away with such a violation.

Futile arguments, over-interpreting the scope of the Bill, must be voiced with caution for the informed agency of all individuals involved in commercial sexual exploitation is more or less denied. Since trafficking is a crime because of the elements of abuse and the violations that are committed against women, not because of the movement or mobility per se (Sanghera and Kapur 2000), therefore, evaluation of the the effectiveness of the Bill against the misconstrued understanding of agency should be condemned.

To conclude, I reiterate that from the freedom to voluntarily engage in sex work comes the freedom to voluntarily disengage which is denied in the current understanding of “agency” (or non-agency) propagated through the ongoing protests of the non-supporters of the Bill.

Rahul Gandhi’s finds unique strategy for 2019 election: Vacationing

0

Rahul Gandhi is on vacation yet again. Just at the time when the country demands his leadership. Well, at least the country which he hopes to lead, demands to see his leadership chops, at a time of great calamity of floods across the Southern part of the nation. And what does he do, he goes on vacation.

(Yes, you can argue that it is not vacation, he is on a brand building tour across the world talking to developed nations about the backwardness of India since May 2014- the same India which was counted among the most developed nation till April 2014. But before you jump at me, read this piece and appreciate the seriousness of it.)

Be that as it may, this is an important discovery. And people are making fun of Rahul Gandhi. This is unfair. Very unfair. Because, Rahul Gandhi is living a new paradigm – not merely talking. A paradigm which deserves to be researched. Written upon. Perhaps even awarded a Nobel prize for management, if it exists. (If it doesn’t, please create it, because, it is important. Hell, it can save the world.)

Presenting Management by Vacationing

Years ago, Tom Peters (taking a leaf out of the Hewlett-Packard team) created a new acronym. MBWA: Management by Walking Around. It means, you, as CEO, wander around, talk to employees at random, customers, if possible and learn what is going on around the company, markets – at first hand. Simple enough.

Management by vacationing is the extreme other side or takes MBWA to a new extreme.

The leader vacations mostly, comes in to work for a few days, sets strategies, directions and then goes off on yet another, much deserved, vacation. Imagine the capability of the leader who can vacation around while his team does all the work.

Yes, indeed. Think about it, as the minions slog over files, pore over email drafts, collate twitter feeds and devote hours to promote the leader, the leader has empowered them enough to take a vacation himself. That is the power of the leader, his belief, his capability to create a strong team that can do everything. Indeed, the leader follows not a 4 day work week, but a 4 day work month. That is the level of empowerment and trust he has in the team.

Is there is a crisis? Leader goes on vacation. Team handles it. Seamlessly. And when the crisis has just blown over, the leader parachutes (mostly by Business Class) in, takes credit and goes off on the next vacation.

Is there a warning of a crisis? Leader plans a vacation in case leader is around. In case he is not around and already on vacation, he extends it. And the same template as above is followed. It is that simple.

These vacations recharge the leader. Every time. Each time the leader is back, from his recharged vacation, the team works much harder. Imagine a leader you see every day, slogging at work – why would you be motivated. It is like having Rahul Gandhi as your neighbour – you would be bored. Daily presence is overrated.

No, you want the leader to be away, show up at work a few times a year and then every visit of the leader is special. The chairs are cleaned, the floors are mopped, special dinner is served and photographers are everywhere. Yes, dont you, in your corporate roles, slog for visitors who come to your office once a year? Of course.

Life is but a series of photo-opportunities. What else is life? See Instagram. That is all there is to life.

Every time the leader goes on vacation, newer job opportunities are created. Someone has to create a reason. Someone to quickly check a daft twitter post and then quickly plug it. Someone has to alert various whatsapp groups to coordinate a response strategy. Someone has to cover up tracks.

Also, each time the leader utters pearls of wisdom, someone has to erase the memories of people and reinterpret those random utterances into something nuanced and prized enough for a Nobel Prize. This itself calls for a huge department.

Management by Vacationing is the new management mantra. Hard work? That went out of style long back.

PM Modi sets an example of working in a way suggested by Lord Krishna

0

Some may oppose, criticize and even attempt to persecute the messenger for drawing similarity of working style of PM Modi with the life-lessons given by Lord Krishna. But we will see how this comparison is genuine. This is not about conveying a spiritual message but about the Karma – the duties of Modiji as Honourable Prime Minister of India. The comparison is therefore strictly in physical parenthesis and not in metaphorical sense.

Krishna always represents wisdom, commitment, clarity, duty consciousness, upliftment of the society and justice without looking or measuring the reward or returns. The role of Modiji as our PM is also acted as true Karma Yogi and was working hard to develop India without expecting any political dividend or mileage.

Our famous epic Granth ‘Mahabharat’ clearly shows that how the (mighty in numbers) Kaurava brothers were attempting reinstate the law of satan, demon and sacrilege the basic ethics and moral values. After Pandavas lost the game of dice to the infamous cheat- Sakuni, Duryodhana and Dushasana made attempt to disrobe Panchali the wife of Pandavas in Kaurava Durbar.

The helpless Panchali surrendered to Lord Krishna who came and rescued Panchali from the most heinous act of Kaurava.

Our mother India was like Panchali crying for long and the Indians were like helpless Pandavas witnessing the sorrow of our Bharat Mata until 2014. Those who ruled India in the past can be compared to Kauravas as most of those political parties that ruled India were looting money from the public exchequer and were engaged in scams and kickbacks and in fact were disrobing our mother India. The citizens were exactly as helpless as Pandavas.

Like Panchali, India also cried for help from heaven and that is how the spiritual saint, Karma Yogi- Modiji appeared in the scene and saved mother India from going nude and naked (stealing all her wealth) by several dynasts who can be compared to Kauravas.

Every mission that Modiji accomplished for rebuilding New India were futuristic, impartial and free of any scams, politics or nepotism. What India is today is due to and because of Modiji who not only defeated the Kaurava culture but also saved the glory and respect of mother India.

Like how Lord Krishna who made India from a land of organic humans to the sacred Karma Bhoomi of human consciousness, Modiji also brought a new thinking among Indians.  It is all about development, Sab ka vikas, transformation and not politics of power, politics to loot money and politics to promote dynastic culture.

Therefore comparing the actions of Modiji with that of Lord Krishna would be more appropriate. Modiji saved India from Kauravas and Modiji kindled the spirit and ethos of Indian-ness, one India and development of all.

Like Lord Krishna how he imparted the essence of Bhagavat Gita to Arjuna in the midst of Kurushetra battle field, Modiji is also working constantly to make Indians to be more responsible about Swacch Bharat and be dutiful for the nation.

Today India is not facing a mere political struggle but a freedom struggle. Those who ruled the county for nearly 3 decades are flexing their muscle and throwing money and their dynastic cult to recapture the power and reinstate Kaurava rule. But people of India must take part in this great freedom struggle and must trust and must pledge their support unconditionally to Modiji like how Panchali trusted Lord Krishna during disrobement by Dushasana in Kaurava Darbar.

India need a Karma Yogi Modiji, a persona committed so deeply to the ethos of development of India and sab ka vikas.

2019 is not about vote for Modiji or elect Modiji again as our PM, BUT SAVE INDIA BY RE-ELECTING MODIJI and not those divisive forces that are interested only in developing their dynasty and loot the country.

This is why Polytheism makes sense over Monotheism

0

I started thinking about polytheism as a consequence of a discussion I had with someone I once met at the University I was studying in, in USA. He was a follower of a monotheistic religion and was unable to understand how people could believe in many gods.

For very long, the discussion used to come back to me, but I could never derive a proper justification, nor did I truly feel the need for a justification. Sometime back, I had a discussion with a friend that led to the crystallization of my idea of god. To me, god is a collection of attributes I value. If that collection or a sufficient part of collection exists in a human or animal or symbol, that entity or symbol to me is god.

Symbolism has been much reviled and become a word that people do not want to associate with. This is because symbolism has been hijacked by tokenism. Tokenism and symbolism are not the same. For instance, a piece of stone in the shape of Shiva is worshiped. Unfortunately, people worship the piece of stone itself rather than what it symbolizes. They believe that offering fruits, leaves, devotion etc. to the stone itself would bring them benefits. This is also disturbing at a different level. Because you see, Shiva is just a means to an end for them.

What I believe should instead be worshiped is as follows. The snake around Shiva’s neck indicates a person who is able to meditate even with a snake (also seen as the desires and temptations and distractions) hissing in his ear. The deer held firmly in his hand indicates a mind that is steady, a mind that does not hop about like a deer. The third eye indicates wisdom and penetration. The burning of the god of love, Kama, by opening the third eye is not a story of external manifestation of power, but a story of the power to see through the illusion of lust and to burn it at its source. There are of course other symbols, the interpretations of which I am not aware of. But the point I wish to make is we should learn to understand symbols and not blindly worship them devoid of understanding.

Coming back to the original topic, polytheism is important because different people value different attributes and may wish to develop each to a different measure. Polytheism allows each person to select a set of beliefs that are most dear to that person. For one, it may be education, for another compassion and empathy. I think it does not matter too much what it is, as long as it is good. Polytheism grants so much more freedom. The only condition being that it be properly understood.

Has demonetization ended corruption?

0

The fringe political parties in India that have only job of opposing and criticizing Modiji are asking whether demonetization has ended corruption in India. The question is very funny and it completely lacks maturity and sense of any responsibility.

Demonetization was a great and bold initiative taken by Modiji and it has shaken the tap root of many corrupts and tax evaders in India. Indian economy has significantly improved and the number of tax payer base also has increased thanks to demonetization. The disruptive initiative of Modiji was needed to raise India to the next level. Demonetization is definitely one of the methods to curb corruption but not the ultimate solution.

Answer to the question of has demonetization ended corruption must be sought from Indian mythology. Different incarnations of Lord Vishnu were meant only to destroy different demons and evil forces. All those evil forces like Ravana, Kamsa, Jarasandha etc., in those days can be compared with the present day corrupt forces and syndicates of scams and loot.

Lord Vishnu took the Avatar of Rama and Krishna and destroyed all those forces. Lord Vishnu took the avatar of Ram in Treta Yuga and destroyed Ravana. But Ravana in different forms and names– Kamsa again appeared in Dwapara Yuga. Hence Lord Vishnu again came in the avatar as Krishna to destroy the evil force Kamsa. So destruction of one evil force is not going to permanently put an end to the emergence of another evil force in future. Evil forces would emerge continuously and therefore continuous efforts are required to minimize the impact of all such evil forces in our society.

The spiritual secret of avatar of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna tells nothing but our efforts must continue and whatever the result we obtain through our action will not be a permanent result and to make the result permanent, continuous action is necessary.

Therefore the question if demonetization ended corruption in India lacks not only maturity but also sense of responsibility.

To make our country free of corruption, every Indian must unite for the cause and work continuously.

Like Lord Krishna and Lord Rama, Modiji, the avatar Purush of Kali Yuga has implemented demonetization.  Whenever one demon is destroyed, many other smaller demons would try to grow and occupy the space of the demon that has been destroyed. So initially we may experience the action of more demons and the same is what India is witnessing today.

Instead of all those fringe political parties that are engaged in asking the question of has corruption and black money ended in India after demonetization must ask to own consciousness about how they are working overnight to defeat the agenda of development of India by joining hands with many other corrupt forces. All these corrupt forces never want corruption to end because their political survival is exclusively based on corruption, dynasty politics, politics of minority appeasement and dividing India through instigating different castes.

Unlike those divisive opposition forces, the birth of Modiji has a purpose and mission like that of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna.

The birth of Modiji is not meant to implement demonetization like destroying Kamsa and Ravana were not the only purpose of Krisha and Rama.  Ram and Krisha came with the message of love, honesty, equality, the unconditional Karma with complete sense of duty and responsibility. The birth of Modiji is to develop India and ensure Sab Ka Vikas.

The entire Treta Yuga and Kali Yuga which lasts for 1296000 and 864000 years respectively had witnessed only one Ravana and one Kamsa. It is believed that the avatar of Lord Vishnu– Ram and Krisha were on their mission during the entire period and hence they checked the emergence of any other demon equal to Ravana or Kamsa. Therefore millions of Indians must ensure the continuance of Modiji as Prime Minister of India in 2019 and beyond and that is necessary to contain the corrupt and divisive forces from ruining our country.

Like how Lord Ram and Krisha continued their mission entire Treta and Dwapara Yuga, the mission of Modiji must continue for at least three more terms only then India shall develop and every Indian shall attain complete and harmonic growth with high level of fulfillment.

Congress government plans to further stifle free speech

0

The first amendment to the constitution proposed by the first prime minister of our country was to stifle free speech so that nobody could criticise him or his policies. Anand Ranganathan has compiled a must-read thread about it.

The current chief minister of Punjab aims to take the regressive law a step further; he wants to give life imprisonment to anyone who dares criticize religion.

In a country where religious sentiments are hurt at the drop of a hat, we must be wary even in proposing such a law. I have three major objections.

Firstly, this not only goes against the modern understanding of free speech but also goes against the ancient Indian tradition of Shastrarth. Criticizing superstitious religious beliefs and inhumane religious practices should definitely be covered under the umbrella of free speech. Any half-brained dumb nut can claim that his (and occasionally her) religious sentiments have been hurt. If we are not allowed to criticize religion, how will we make a course correction? One wonders if anyone would be able to speak up against the customs like Triple Talaq, entry of women into temples and Dargahs etc. Would we have successfully eradicated Sati if such laws were in place?

Secondly, it will set a precedent and other conservative states might start emulating this. The domino’s effect which might follow this might be untrollable and would take us decades back in terms of free speech laws.

Lastly, blasphemy laws have selectively been used in the past. Is there a guarantee that it will not be used selectively in future? One might argue that any law can be selectively used which does not mean that the law should not exist. But would not you agree that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that a law is not abused? There are reasons to worry when a law which has been selectively used in the past is being made harsher without ensuring that abuse would be stopped.

My hope is that draft does not become the law but it is unlikely given that the Congress has a majority in Punjab and it should not face any trouble in passing the law. So my last hope is that courts strike it down and declare this and, hopefully, the first amendment, unconstitutional.

Can regional political parties survive if they keep on putting regionalism over nationalism?

0

Over the last couple of days, I have been reading about regional identities that exist within India. It is good to be proud of ones regional and linguistic identity; India derives its unique strength largely through such diverse identities. However, the trend to use such identities for petty political gains is when the problem originates. This trend has only intensified over the last few years as the BJP has grown its foothold in states that have been traditionally dominated by regional political parties. The problem with this trend is that it erroneously assumes that regional identity has to be in conflict with a national identity and it is this conflict that lets the regional parties garner popular support which can be used to win elections.

There was an argument proposed earlier that such regional polarization happens in states that are underdeveloped and starved of resources however, this argument is not supported by any evidence. In fact, a maximum public support of such strong regional identity-based politics comes from the Southern States of India. This implies that education and economic status of the electorate is not relevant when it comes to such politics.

Take the example of Kerala floods, the centre gave as much immediate relief as possible; yet the state government along with the left ecosystem politicized the entire issue and made it about North versus the South. At a time of crisis of the magnitude of the current floods in Kerala, the focus of the opposition for on politicization of the entire issue rather than channelizing their energies towards the rescue operations.

While the leaders from the south were fuming such hateful thoughts into the minds of people, we had Chief Ministers of Northern States pledge money for rehabilitation of the state of Kerala. People who reside in the northern, western and eastern states of India also came together to donate as much money as possible in their individual capacity for relief and rescue efforts. A calamity of this magnitude should unite Indians together and not divide them. While Indians were standing with their fellow Indian citizens, the politicians from the state were fuming hatred against the North Indian belt. Add to this propaganda pinch of fake news regarding North’s apathy towards the South and voila, you’ve polarized the state against their fellow Indians. This may result quick election results on certain occasions but the question is, at what cost do the regional political parties want to win elections? Their narrative has gone out of control as this hatred has translated into an idea of United States of Southern India- an economic union of the southern and developed states of India.

The question is, in India do we need separate state economic unions? Does such a union not undermine the constitution of our country? Does such a union not have potential repercussions as it may fume separatists and fundamentalist movements in the future?

Let me give you another example, when Hon’ble Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi went to Chennai, a political party ran a campaign “Go Back Modi” to fume a sentiment against the BJP. What they didn’t realize is that Sh. Narendra Modi is the Prime Minister of India and they were asking a duly elected Prime Minister to go back from his own country! I don’t need to point out the fact that the campaign was immature, in bad faith and deserved to be condemned in the strongest of words.

The question that now remains is, will the regional identity-based politics succeed? The chances of it succeeding are highly low because there’s also a national identity that exists and it is not the case that national identity would be at odds with regional identity- they both complement each other and not compete.

The BJP’s strategy is on politics of aspirations which has a much wider appeal than regionalism. The growing aspirations of the people is causing the space for the BJP to grow at the expense of strong regional parties. While the regional parties have intensified their regional identity campaign, people are beginning to identify with a national aspirational identity which is subsuming all other identities.

The success of the BJP in Bengal and Karnataka in improving its vote share and number of seats illustrate that there is a substantial section of the population which is fed up of such “regionalism”. It is this section along with the aspirational voter that has started to vote for the BJP as an alternative. For the parliament elections, the BJP may manage to get a substantial section of the vote share (and seats) from the southern states of India and once the BJP can cultivate local strong leaders in the southern states, the space for regional parties in state assemblies would shrink if they keep on holding to regional identities as the core of their ideology.

India is a diverse country and we definitely do need regional political parties to represent the interests of people but they must be responsible political parties and they must realize that national identity and regional identity go hand in hand. If they do behave responsibly, they can grow across states and expand but if they keep on fuming regional conflicts then they’d definitely lose their political space to fundamentalists and extremists. It is an existential crisis for the regional political parties in India and so far, they’ve only found ways to make it worse for them- and for the nation.

Is forced and tortuous confession not against human rights?

0

“It is the confession, not the priest, that gives us absolution.” – Oscar Wilde

Confessing is one of the most beautiful ways, if not the only way to overcome guilt. To a person walking around like Cain with the mark of tremendous guilt upon his head, voluntary confession is perhaps the only way to absolution. The key word here is voluntary, truly voluntary.

For over the years various organisations that seem diametrically opposite to each other in philosophy have used forced confessions (emotional, psychological and physical blackmail and torture) to keep populations under their thumbs. It is sad that something as beautiful as a voluntary confession has been degraded to something like the self-criticism of the Yan’an Rectification and the struggle sessions of the Cultural Revolution.

Unfortunately certain politico-religious organisations dictate what sin is and these definitions make people who have never harmed anybody in their lives believe they are guilty and the weight of this guilt bears heavily down upon many of those who are sensitive. These organisations now make such people believe that absolution can come only through the channels prescribed by the organisation. What a humungous scam! What a distortion of the teachings of the truly realised and concerned souls!

Absolution can only come from within. No matter how much another person may say you are absolved, you are not absolved until your conscience tells you you are. Admitting to the cause of guilt does greatly help with the process of letting go of the guilt. I think a good friend or a psychologist is a much better person to help with the process than a priest. After all, a professional psychologist or a friend is hardly like to blackmail, for favours of various devious kinds, the person confessing.

Hail Thee Modicare– The Herculean task achieved by Hercules Modi govt

0

The health mission initiated by Modiji is not just revolutionary but is very robust, scientifically well analysed and properly studied initiative. Defeating all the predictions of the fringe political players and the negativism spreading dynasts, surely the mission will bring a ‘health transformation’ in India.

To build a healthy nation, it is not just having more clinics, more doctors and supply of medicines in every village alone is sufficient but the last man in the country must also be educated about various hygiene measures to be followed and must be taught about the importance of keeping his surroundings and country clean. Besides that people also must have proper sanitation facility and drinking water facility, the house wife to have cooking gas supply so that they do not inhale smoke emits out from the heavy load cow dung and other organic matter to build a healthy India. Further every healthy person must be educated about how to protect his or her health instead of looking for clinics or doctor to treat the health problem when they fall ill.

The health mission of Modiji is a wonderfully crafted, well-articulated, well planned programme with great degree success with high statistical significance.

Beginning of new saga in health reform by PM Modi
Soon after Modiji became Prime Minister of India, he launched the programme called Swaach Bharat. He wanted India not just clean but every Indian must own the responsibility with pride that he or she must involve, participate and partner the mission of Swaach Bharat. Keeping India clean is important not only from the aesthetic sense but also is important to build a healthy India.

Modiji was the first leader in India to initiate this primary level sensitisation for total transformation among people soon after he assumes the office of Prime Minister of India. Swaach Bharat mission is not just to keep India clean but it is aimed at building a healthy India as well. Exclusive budgetary allocation was made to create awareness, door to door campaign, advertisement and school level promotion of the concept of Swaach Bharat.

A Herculean fete of Modiji- Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Yojana for 10 crore poor
Several poor Indians in villages were using cow dung and other polluting materials for cooking till 2014. Nearly 1.3 million deaths are occurring every year purely due to pollutants. Further these pollutants also cause several diseases.

To achieve the goal of healthy India, Modiji soon after assumes the office of Prime Minister of India, through Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yogana scheme ensured 10 crore poor people in several villages in India get cooking gas supply. Out of the 10 crore cooking gas provided to poor people, 4 crores were given free to poor villagers. 45% of the 4 crore free cooking gas supplied were to Dalit families.

The above achievement of Modiji is an extraordinary fete and incredibly great because the cooking gas connectivity what Modiji has achieved in the last 4 years is 10 crores versus 13 crore gas connectivity in India over the last 6 decades.

Modiji alone can beat Modiji – Building 6 crore toilets
To ensure all poor people have safe sanitation facility, 6 crore toilets are built by Modiji’s government and another 2 crore toilets are set as an agenda for completion. Safe sanitation facility is extremely necessary to build a healthy India. Faecal contaminants entering our drinking water source and causing various diseases is well known therefore safe disposal of human bio-waste is very important.

A great leader par excellence, Modiji has understood the above need scientifically and that is how he has accomplished almost an impossible task just in 4 years.

Similarly the facility created by Modiji to reach save drinking water to poor people in villages is quite phenomenal.

Campaign to preserve health and unification of India
Modiji has used every opportunity to spread the message of love, brotherhood and the philosophy of one India, one election and one tax.

It is not just having wonderful treatment facilities to treat the diseases will make India healthy but the people must also be educated and made aware of how to preserve their health which is equally important to build a healthy nation. Modiji has recognized this important need and that is how he has launched YOGA.

Practicing YOGA will make people not just physically fit and perfect but indeed YOGA helps to balance the mind and body. YOGA does not have any religion, colour or caste or creed. YOGA is system of self-discipline where it teaches all necessary steps to keep the mind and body in a much disciplined state. Through this mission Modiji not only aimed at achieving healthy India but also created great employment opportunity and today we have several YOGA experts and teachers and the demand for YOGA teachers is growing steadily.

Promotion of AYUSH and why it bites from within
To further strengthen the mission of healthy India, Modiji has given aggressive push for AYUSH. AYUSH is a wonderful wellness cum paramedical system. But it did not succeed the way it was expected mostly because of cross pathy by several institutionally qualified AYUSH Vaidyas in private practice.

Had these AYUSH Vaidyas in private practice utilized the opportunity and popularized the wellness and paramedical values of AYUSH, the system would have gained great importance today and such awareness also would have made India healthy. But some institutionally qualified AYUSH Vaidyas in private practice are biting the system from within and making holes in the system as a result the wonderful efforts of the government fail to meet the goal.

Need of the hour is to empower the AYUSH Vaidyas in private practice to own the system with pride and dignity and provide rich paramedical services of AYUSH to people. AYUSH has several recipes for the healthy people to remain healthy than for the sick. We should not misinterpret or make mistakes in promoting AYUSH as medical- drug based system but instead it must be popularized as paramedical-wellness system.

Crown of the Hercules – Modicare
Modiji has announced the path breaking, revolutionary health insurance scheme – Pradhan Mantry Jan Arogya Abhiyaan also known as Ayushman Bharat or National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM). The scheme will be rolled out from 25 of September 2018 and the scheme would cover up to Rs. 5 lakh per family per year in any Government or empanelled private hospitals in India.

The scheme is for poor and economically deprived people and will cover 10.74 crore beneficiary families with 50 crore citizens. The insurance would cover secondary and tertiary medical care. The scheme is absolutely a cashless program without any waiting period. All kinds of diseases are covered from day one of the policy and the benefit covers both pre and post hospitalization expenses.

Another important aspect of the scheme is that Aadhaar card is not mandatory and the prescribed ID alone is sufficient to receive the benefit. The beneficiaries of the above scheme are identified based strictly on socio-economic status/ details and all such details have been well defined for both rural and urban areas so that the benefit would go only to the genuine needy people.

When we study the details, vision, micro planning, scientific aspects of the above mission, we may wonder how the mission is conceived, articulated, planned and executed by the great leader Modiji.

India needs Modiji in 2019
What India has achieved in the last 4 years is incredible, unimaginable and boundless. Every Indian must reflect how the dynasty has ruined the country for their selfish gain and how it had impaired the development. People were kept as hostages of poverty and penury and different greedy politicians were portioning India to share power.

In 2019 India should not witness the same theatrics where several regional forces will join together to grab power and loot the country. For a prosperous, developed, super-power India, such India is possible only if Modiji come as its Prime Minister in 2019.

Start identifying and isolating all divisive and fringe forces that destroy the harmony and development of India and let the legacy of Modiji continue in 2019.
