Modi and Pragya: Will the two roads diverge?

0

BJP candidate from Bhopal loksabha constituency was always in controversy, ever since she was nominated as candidate from the old bastion of the saffron party. Pragya sparked row whenever she spoke, whether it was Karkare or the most recent, Godse. Godse remark was so strong, that even their own leader openly opposed her .Since then, there were speculations, what will happen if Pragya wins elections, will PM Modi ignore her, will he keep his promise of “never forgiving” for her Godse remarks? These speculations were fueled by the recent NDA parliamentary meet, where Modi was seen distancing himself from the Bhopal MP.

Alternately, this incident can be seen as Modi has to meet all 352 MP elect plus other party dignitaries, over to 600+ people within a span of say twenty minutes, so he didn’t have time to warmly greet Sadhvi. But it gave spices for further cooking of opinions to mainstream media, which has preyed like vultures to find anything which can defame her and question Modi. Let’s say, PM Modi tries to extend this distance for next five years, where will this lead?

Yes, elections were fought on just one name,”Modi” since 2013, many were won, some were lost by the ruling party. Yes,the bumper majority of 303, was a result of Modi facet. But, was this the only reason? No. Had this been the only reason, BJP would alone have secured more than 50% vote share across the country, and may even have won every seat it contested. The people’s verdict, was not only for Modi, but also for the candidate. And hence, if Modi tries to cold shoulder the MP of Bhopal, he would disrespecting over 8lakh voters who chose her as their representative (considering, Pragya doesn’t do anti-party or anti-people activities).

Sidelining Pragya would also mean a blot on PM’s saying at the parliamentary meet, “to work for every citizen, who supported or opposed them”. Analyzing neutrally, Pragya’s most controversial statements on Karkare and Godse, we can say the former was inspired by the personal feud. Its a popular opinion and mostly true, she was framed of the terror charges in order to prove the myth of “Hindu terror”. The hand behind this was of course of Mr. Karkare, an Ashok Chakra awardee, who laid his life in the Mumbai terror attacks. Yes, a coin has two faces, and it would’ve been  clear, if he had been alive, keeping in mind even Major Gogoi was brought to justice. Pragya while retracting from her statements on Karkare, had clarified she is taking back her statements because it was being utilized by anti-national elements, this was of course not highlighted by MSM.

On the second remark, “Godse was a patriot” had nothing to do with disrespecting Gandhi, as contrary to popular opinion formed after the PM’s statement of “never forgiving”. She didn’t utter a single word about Gandhi. Yes, Gandhi did many great things for the nation, but it also doesn’t mean a coin can have only one face! In a nation, where freedom of speech can be used to disrespect Bharat Mata, Bhagwan Ram, Maa Durga, where sedition charges on publicly calling for breaking India is considered wrong, and the ‘tukde tukde gang’ receives popular support from certain sections, the president of oldest political party disrespects Veer Savarkar in parliament, and when it all comes to discussing dark side of Gandhi, everything becomes taboo. Not to forget, the sentencing of ‘popular terrorists’ is criticized at the home page of websites of government funded ‘minority’ institutes, the gathering at their funerals doesn’t invites criticism or sedition charges, but speaking on Godse does.

In the end, we can only hope Sadhvi Pragya Thakur doesn’t gets blinded by power, as we have seen in many leaders, even of BJP, in the past. We can only hope, she gets the definition of ‘Sadhvi’ to next level, just like ‘Yogi’ defined by Yogi Adityanath.

A market perspective

0

If the BJP were a business and the Congress were a business, the BJP CEO would simply love the Congress CEO. Here’s why.

1. They refuse to learn from their lessons. They get routed, doing the same thing over and over. When the competition does something new – they sit there, run their marketing campaigns on their favourite channels and wait and watch. And then it bombs. And they wonder why.

2. When it bombs, they don’t fire anyone. Indeed the top chap stays there mouthing platitudes and his servile team showers encomiums on him at each failure. Yes, sometimes, they fire a new hire here and there.

3. Actually they don’t wonder why. They believe that the market deserves them and only them – for what great reason nobody knows. But they believe that the market is stupid that they are not buying into their low quality products. They refuse to acknowledge that the competition has better products.

4. Their ad campaigns are focused on why the other one is the worst product – despite people buying it in droves, having a great customer experience; it has nothing about their own product – and it is not even new and improved.

5. They boast of using 70 year old technology – long long long past its sell by date. At each juncture when they get a chance to change the technology – they refuse.

6. Their value chain is highly leak prone. Everybody takes a cut – they run a bloated organization but they see no need to change that.

7. They lose market share and they hope that they consumer will come back to them at some point.

8. They hire consultants who tell them that is nothing is wrong with their product- at least not when it matters.

9. Their management team is filled with morons (by and large).

10. They keep filing complaints with no basis with regulatory agencies – because they know some lobbyists there – and even with that their complaints are dismissed, yet they persist.

11. Merit does not mean anything in this organization.

12. A small segment of loyalists do buy their product and sometimes they sell it through partnerships, but it is not clear how it will sustain them in the future.

13. For 70 years though, they have survived the vagaries of the marketplace with this model – they delusionally, even arrogantly believe that this model will endure once the competition is vanquished by hubris (the hubris part is partly true). They dont need to do anything different.

14. But year on year, apart from small blips, they have continued to lose market share.

15. There is significant scope for product innovation but they are now trapped in the sunk cost fallacy…

16. Their boss abandons the company at the most crucial of times and does not seem to have any vision.

17. Their latest ad campaign was a huge bomb, but the consultants egged them on till they fell off the cliff.

Meanwhile the competition has learnt all its tricks and traps, but it is also falling into a mold without thinking of the need to reinvent – like all successful people and organizations…that’s a story for another time.

But can you add other points, dear reader?

From Modi vs All that we witnessed, it’s now Congress vs All, for the Congress to Shatter

From showcasing of being the only alternative for removing the incumbent government, to being
a mere cheerleader amongst all other goons, the congress party properly exposed itself, of having only one agenda, of removing Modi anyhow. The party living on the basics of nepotism, and family heirarchy is now heading for a shutdown soon.

The routing of Congress from UP is nothing new, but the very fact of also failed SP – BSP survival alliance too parted from the Congress, is the proof that not even the termites could find the cellulose in this decayed ‘wood’.

The stage shared by the 20 or so opposition parties leaders and anti-modi brigade, too was reluctant to themselves with the congress on their side. While carrying the cheeky smile when raising the hand, with the other oppositions in the oath taking ceremony of the government of Karnataka, Rahul Gandhi might not have known what he was doing, but the people of India certainly knew, what they were going to do with them.

With the opposition not loving to be a part of sinking congress, the mandate of people of India, from the 2014, and now in the 2019, and the single handed victory of Narendra Modi in the race of Modi vs all, completely conquered, now it is certainly congress vs all that doesn’t look like any way of saving them from shutting down the business.

The way Congress family induced the Rahul Gandhi’s sister, and in the day of nomination of Rahul Gandhi, how Mrs. Vadra carried her children and Mr. Vadra, without including even the senior leaders of Congress shows the disrespect for everyone, except the Gandhi family.

The arrogance Rahul Gandhi carries, and wear it as a badge of self dictatorship, and the abrupt non acceptance of defeat, blaming on the EVMs, and the rude press conference, suggests why the mandate was not even enough for giving the seat to them of leader of opposition. The way Rahul carried the failed slogan of ‘chowkidar chor hai’, and took even the supreme court’s judgement as a ‘heat of the campaigning’ shows the disrespect for the authorities is very easy for the elites, Rahul Gandhi’s life resonates. This arrogance has not just been inherited, but has well been seen in his family. But it’s pleasing to see, how well the voters versed the slogan, and selected the ‘chowkidar’ over the ‘chor’. The congress party’s traditional ‘neech’, or ‘maut ka saudagar’ remark was not even that close to what Rahul set the new low.

It is the way leadership is carried out and the policies proposed by the congress that has let India down to such a politics that they had to fight the election on the name of distributing freebies, as the answer for Narendra Modi’s straight questions towards them, and over his portfolio.

The contest of Congress vs all is set to run long, with the congress being the lone survivor, fighting for a corner, to sustain their life, as noone can afford to team up with them. It has become so irrelevant to be with the congress that the people even feared to get the ‘NYAY’ they promised to offer.

The need of the hour– Retrospection for BJP in Tamil Nadu

0

The General Elections 2019 gave a thumping majority to the ruling BJP lead by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. While the entire nation was rejoicing over the stunning show put out by the Shah-Modi duo, silence prevailed over the southern part of India, particularly Tamil Nadu. Despite the pro-incumbency for PM Modi, which guided the party to secure 303 seats across India, it was a no show for the BJP and its allies in Tamil Nadu. What went wrong? Let’s analyze.

Alliance with AIADMK

The BJP central leadership was proactive this time to cling an alliance with the current ruling party in the state- AIADMK. The party which secured a 37/39 win in 2014 when the party supremo J Jayalalitha was alive. The state assembly was also going for polls in some of the constituencies which were held by the rebel leaders of TTV Dinakaran Camp. The stage was set for the massive show, with Prime Minister Modi and Party President Amit Shah’s visits and campaigns attracting a large number of people across the state. The results are however devastating for the NDA. The alliance won only a single seat. The AIADMK perhaps posed a decent competition in the by-polls by winning 9/22 seats and thus securing their government for the next couple of years.

Leadership Crisis – Tamil Nadu BJP

It’s conspicuous that the TN BJP unit lacks strong and persistent leadership. The party is no short of senior leaders though. Leaders like Pon Radhakrishnan, H Raja and President of the state unit Tamilisai Soundararajan are notable faces of the party. But were they able to pull votes? The answer is palpable today. One who sits in Tamil Nadu and prays for the success of BJP will know the enormous hate which the party is surrounded. The fake news like NEET killed Anita (A student, committed suicide for the low marks scored in NEET), BJP imposing Hindi on Tamil land, Hindu Terrorism by BJP backers (God knows which organization BJP affiliated promotes Terror) and the most spoken title by the DMK leaders “Fascist”.  The list adds more with a new entrant like Kamal Haasan taking a jibe at BJP for its ideology (The same man was seen with Kejriwal, Pinarayi Vijayan and later allied with Mamata Banerjee).

To counter these agendas and promote the party’s developmental works, the state leadership lacked resources. No, BJP Tamil Nadu is not short of skilled orators and talented debaters. The state leadership had always projected itself to be weak. The quality of spokespersons being exhibited on the regional channels was no match to the ones put out by DMK and Congress. The state Youth wing’s deputy leader has a large number of followers on Twitter. He singlehandedly countered the DMK and Congress fake news and articles with facts and views – only on Social Media. Who stops him representing the party on the mainstream media? Is this a deliberate attempt by the state leadership?

Nevertheless, the race to reach the top position by the contenders is common in all the political parties. Does it mean to sacrifice the party and focus on personal gains? The false propaganda by the UPA was significant in the 2019 elections. Tamil Nadu, the only state perhaps to escape the Modi wave in 2014 has serious demands and requires immediate attention. Cauvery issue is prevalent for decades. Chennai, the capital region is worst affected by drought in several years. Anti-social elements’ involvement in the Tuticorin protest against the closure of Sterlite Copper was widely spoken by many leaders, excluding the UPA leadership which solely blamed the ruling party of orchestrating the encounter to kill the innocent people.  However, the fishermen community consciously came out in public to blame the anti-social elements for brain-washing them to protest and March towards the collector’s office. With issues that need immediate attention, the BJP could have easily bagged the local problems.

BJP’s Contribution for Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu has enjoyed most of the central schemes compared to other states. For instance, Housing Project, under PMAY (Urban), construction of more than 60000 affordable houses were already approved.  Tamil Nadu is one of the top states to avail the Mudra Yojna with more than 2 crore beneficiaries. PM Modi led NDA government allocated Rs 5.42 lakh crore for the development of Tamil Nadu under, 14th Finance commission, Central Projects, DMF, Mudra Loan, CAMPA fund, Uday Turnaround scheme. Most importantly, PM laid the foundation stone for AIIMS construction cost over 1200 crores. Reports come from various sources that over 89,000 people benefitted from the Ayushman Bharat Insurance scheme launched by PM Modi.

The need of the hour – Retrospection

As the elections are over, the central leadership seriously should consider to retrospect the situation in the state as Tamil Nadu adds up 39 Lok Sabha seats, which is the fourth highest (Uttar Pradesh 80, Maharashtra 48, West Bengal 41). A complete review of the state functioning and replacing the irrelevant office bearers would help the party to salvage its reputation in the forthcoming elections.

What a victory (BJP)! What a defeat (Congress)! Where are the Liberals?

0

The astounding victory for the BJP, in the recent royal electoral battle, was an oceanic undercurrent of nationalism, Hindutva and the tribute to the welfare programmes of Narendra Modi-led BJP government. People of India, clearly thought a 5-year term (to the prime minister) would not be sufficient for the ambitious prime minister to carry out his programmes to fruition.

Full credit of winning goes to Modi for his energetic campaign for a prolonged period of one half months, indefatigably. No prime minister ever did such a hard task in the history of Independent- India. Of course, the BJP president, Amit Shah was no less. He always exuded confidence that his party was likely to get this majority. The trigger and tweak to the campaign was Balakot air strikes. They had given Modi the image of a decisive, determined leader who could take on the enemy at any point of crisis. This protective shield was provided to the entire country (barring a bit to J&K in the borders) for the entire period of five-year-rule of the BJP led NDA, as no untoward incident (like bomb blasts) occurred during their rule.

In this election secularism of the elite was totally rejected. The electorate of India, through their verdict, showed the Left Liberals their place. The Left liberal groupings often use of secularism to bait Hindus and their practices. They have no qualms to denigrate and deride Hindu religion and culture. That was all put- down by the majority through their votes. The Liberals were impervious of the implication. They have not used secularism as a noble overarching principle of the Constitution of India but have used as a tool to settle scores in their aversion towards Hindu religion and their desire to promote minority religions (in the name of freedom of religion). Otherwise how and in what terms CMs of West Bengal, Andhra and Telangana be called secular leaders?

It’s apparent that Hindutva played a major role in galvanizing Hindus across the castes. They have given mandate to Modi to promote their civilizational ethos which is not wrong in any case, PM Modi’s bathing in river Ganga in the finale of Arth Kumbh in Pragyagraj , his Ganga aarti in Varanasi before filing his nomination, principle of protecting cows- were pointers of his commitment to being Hindu and one who respects the values espoused in Hindu culture.

This way of respecting one’s own country’s culture is found in other countries also. For instance, in China Han are the majority. China’s national identity is defined by the single ethnicity of Han. The language of the Han’s (Mandarin) is given more importance than the other minor ones. Han dominate the country in universities and other places. If not Han, it’s much difficult to reach higher positions. The philosophy of Confucius (the famous Chinese philosopher) is promoted not only China but also elsewhere in other countries of the world by China. Chinese government established libraries of Confucius in other parts of world solely to propagate their culture.

Every country hankers for their country’s identity to be their culture. Because that provides the sheet anchor to their existence and what they are being defined. This country, Bharat’s identity is quintessentially Hindu. All these years, after Independence, this was being ignored. Liberals by calling Hindus a caste ridden group of people, in which projecting and glorifying discrimination between castes have helped minority religions to devour majority Hindus. By disdaining Hindus, by embracing minority religions, Liberals have done disservice to this nation. It’s ridiculous on their part to make this country an amorphous bunch of people.

Of course, religious minorities have a right to live decently in a dignified manner in this country. It’s theirs also. However, they only need attention by depriving the deserved in the majority, is unacceptable. Minority religious people should grow organically along with the majorities. Liberals are no more liberals, if they seek for preferential treatment to religious minorities in the name of whatever (be it poverty, emaciation or emancipation). Liberal fanatics need to stop their antiques, as they aren’t saleable anymore. Rethink and re examination of their jargon is needed.

France is a country that is purely a secular country in the world. The state is fully diassociated with the country’s religion- Christianity. Yet on the streets of France, Christmas is celebrated every year with gaiety. Christmas is not celebrated as a religious festival but as cultural one. The sweets-doughnuts, the Christmas carols, Santa Claus are in full swing on the streets of Paris. That’s the France’s culture. They never neglect. In India, under the Congress, Ramzan is a big festival to throw iftar-parties not Diwali for the Congress presidents and for Rajbhavan. The Congress party made this country : for the minorities, by the minorities and of the minorities and their religious festivities.

Of late, after getting elected, France’s president Emmanuel Macron took up big-ticket economic reforms. Railways in the country were privatised. There has been a ‘yellow-vest’ agitation. Many youngsters have been agitating as their salaries have not been hiked and were not able to make both ends meet. Because of their secular nature of the state, the agitators were not able to control their emotions. Since the ruling of the day was not willing to listen to their owes, they were getting frustrated and also depressed. Here the question arises, for a state, which is fully secular without a trace of religion, how could the people cope with their emotions?

In a true sense, spiritual paucity in the society leads to vacuum. People cannot deal with their day to day problems without the calming down effect of religion. Indian Liberals are also in the old world. For them religious aspects specially pertaining to Hindus are disquieting.

In any case, this major- win by the BJP, is looked at by the majority (among them the old vintage) with a hope on building of Ram Temple in Ayodhya at least by 2022 coinciding with Uttar Pradesh elections. Next, abrogation Art-370 should not become an empty rhetoric. It’s good for the country if the Article-370 or Art-35 A, both or one, in the least, should be scrapped. A well-thought-out step towards Uniform Civil Code or Codifying Muslim Personal Law by removing antiquated laws should be done as a necessary measure for sanitising the society.

Rahul Gandhi, though on state elections (in the Hindi heartland states in December-2018) , won the electoral battle by projecting himself a Hindu, in General Elections, he could not make such an appeal, for, the Left- Communist parties’ workers that infiltrated into his own Congress cadre (with their future in the Left being bleak and neglected) influenced him in making promises like scrapping Sedition law, removing Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), and the dubious NYAY scheme with no clarity whatsoever. The tucked, tukde-gang had made, the once upon a time-mighty Congress into a small tukde in the big political picture right now in India.

So, all kudos to prime minister Modi and the president of the BJP party Shri Amit Shah from all sections of people.

YES, There was a huge undercurrent but it was not the one they thought it was

0

The only accurate prediction by the various media houses and the opposition after spending almost their entire previous six months in the various constituencies, was that there is a strong undercurrent existing in various parts of the country. Now that the election results are here, we can safely say this undercurrent was nothing but one for Modi. But it would be interesting to dissect the origin and the causes for this.

Looking at the BJP strategy in the 2014 elections, It was pretty easy to find out how they did it: attack the Congress on the endless list of corruption cases and look at attracting the swing voters in the north with a strong leader like Modi who adequately represents the Hindutva image. However, 2019 was much different; the 2G case verdict came out in favor of Congress and there was a significant amount of educated voters successfully brainwashed by the media about how their lives have suddenly deteriorated only because of demonetization and GST. The Hindutva and anti-corruption cards were no longer good enough to be dealt on the table. The deck had to be shuffled again.

Though the positive effects of Pulwama and the immense organizational ability of the Sangh Pracharaks cannot be overlooked, it cannot be an explanation of the increase in vote share and the number of seats in 2019. What many people seem to be have overlooked is the power of the schemes designed which directly empower the rural woman of India backed by effective ministers who know the art of effective execution. The notable of these schemes include the “Beti bachao beti padao”. Ujjwala and the accelerated rural electrification project. Just these three schemes together comforts an economically backward rural woman who spends at least 4 hours cooking on an average and the remaining 20 hours worrying about the comforts for their children.

There emerged the actual “silent voter”: the one who you would not see in your social media or TV channels but will ensure to come to the polling stations to decide the fate of the country. Their electoral power is also a resentment against their husbands who tend to choose their leaders based on caste inclinations and money power rather on what is good for their children. Across the states, the statistics clearly shows that there is a surge in the percentage of woman voters which may or may not directly support this fact, but certainly does not negate it. Another interesting observation, contrary to the narrative of what a Hindutva party is, is that these schemes do not discriminate the religion of the woman receiving them.

Thus the narrative by the opposition that the minorities need to be worried if BJP comes to power probably was not successful in consolidating the minority vote against the BJP in rural dominated constituencies. This section of minority women voters have to be equally silent as expressing any such opinion of satisfaction towards BJP implies serious implications not just in their households but amongst their entire community. Their food habits and religious beliefs may be different but the hopes and aspiration of these rural women remain identical across caste, creed and religion.

Thus when Congress and the other badly bruised opposition members sit and discuss what went wrong, they would need to seriously consider how to appease and empower the rural woman in their schemes rather than naively building a caste based narrative. This section is very crucial because they care about nothing other than the future of their children and remain loyal to their leader once they trust his/her intentions. They also have the ability to strongly influence the voting decisions of their children who grow up to be first time voters in upcoming elections.

Talking in business terms, these voters boast extremely low churn rates and their customer acquisition costs end up giving good return on investments unlike the men whose churn rates are a cause of concern. Its time the parties design more and more schemes for their betterment and more importantly for the betterment of the country.
