Very few World leaders are admired by people of Israel and Shri Narendra Modi is one of them who received a grand reception on his visit to Israel in July this year when he became the first PM ever to visit Israel. But on Thursday an unexpected news came from the United Nations General Assembly where BJP led NDA government along with 127 other countries voted against the USA’s decision of recognizing Jerusalem as official capital of Israel.

For many years, Israel and Palestine have had a conflict over claim of holy city of Jerusalem. As of now Israel controls a major part of Jerusalem, its Parliament the Knesset is in Jerusalem, so is Beit HaNassi, the President’s house and most of the other government building. But despite of Israel claiming Jerusalem as its capital, the world has believed that Jerusalem is not the capital of Israel.

But India did not follow USA’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israe. India did not speak on the floor of the United Nations General Assembly, but after Trump recognized the holy city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, it had said that its Palestine position was independent and consistent.

India and Israel have lot of similarities, both countries are democracy and have a hostile nations in its neighborhood. Both Hinduism and Judaism have survived even after lot of atrocities during Mughal period and World War II respectively. Israel has always supported India by giving weapons and sharing advance technology. Israel sympathizes with Indian on Kashmir issue also both India’s Bangalore and Israel’s Tel Aviv are emerging as Software Capital of the world.

But now that India is dependent on many Israel hating gulf countries for its oil need, it can not risk to disrupt its relations with gulf countries like Iran but atleast India should have maintained a neutral stand by remaining absent or by abstaining from the polling process for respect of its growing relations with Israel.
