Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) needs a game changer to make a comeback in Punjab. Party chief Arvind Kejriwal said in Amritsar on Monday that only a Sikh leader would be the face of the Chief Minister’s Post. The Party will announce the leader’s name when the time comes. It seems that AAP is now taking lessons from the mistakes of the last election. In the 2017 Elections, AAP did not declare its CM face. Whereas in Punjab there has been a pattern of personality based voting. Akali had declared Parkash Singh Badal and Congress had declared Captain Amarinder Singh as the Chief Ministerial Candidate. At that time, Kejriwal had said that it is not necessary for the Party to have a Chief Ministerial Candidate because the People of Punjab have faith in AAP.
On the Other Hand, Things aren’t even right in the ruling Party i.e. Congress. Siddhu & Captain are fighting with each other openly. In Punjab, a committee was formed by the Congress High Command to end the feud between CM Captain Amarinder Singh and Navjot Singh Sidhu. This Committee submitted its report to Congress President Sonia Gandhi. It is being said that the Committee had proposed to make Navjot Singh Sidhu as Deputy Chief Minister, on which Amarinder Singh did not Agree. There was also news that he could be brought back at the National Level, but Sidhu was not ready for this. Navjot Singh Sidhu is in favor of doing Politics in Punjab itself and does not want to leave Punjab. All the Steps which have been taken so far to end this dispute have not proved to be Effective. At the same time, recently Sidhu had said in one of his interviews to The Indian Express that he is not a ‘Show Piece’, which is to be taken out during elections and then put back in the cupboard. This statement is enough for an Analyst to understand what is brewing in Siddhu’s mind.
Aam Aadmi Party is the main Opposition Party in Punjab, but it does not have any big face of Punjab as Chief Minister. In the last Assembly Elections, AAP had not declared any face for the CM candidate. Before joining the Congress in 2017, Navjot Singh Sidhu’s talks were also going on with the Aam Aadmi Party. AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal himself had confirmed this. It is said that deal with Sidhu could not be made at that time. Actually, at that time there were many such faces in the Aam Aadmi Party, who were candidates for the post of CM. Of these, Sukhpal Singh Khaira has joined the Congress after becoming a Rebel. There is no Unanimity among party leaders regarding AAP’s lone MP Bhagwant Mann. Navjot Singh Sidhu can be a face for the Aam Aadmi Party, who can change the entire Political Mathematics of Punjab. Arvind Kejriwal had said on his recent Punjab tour that if there is any update in the matter of Sidhu joining AAP, it will be told.
With the current leadership, AAP does not seem to be performing well in the state at this time. Apart from targeting CM Amarinder and Badal family, Sidhu has also been strongly raising the case of 2015 Police Firing. These are matters on which the Aam Aadmi Party has also been working. Former SIT chief Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh was included in AAP on Monday. If AAP brings Siddhu in the party then it can prove to be a big game changer.
