The liberal propaganda on Shivlinga Abhishekam

0

Unlike any other season monsoon is known to bring forth prosperity, greenery and a relief from the scorching heat of the summers in the shravan maas of the year. This month is dedicated to Lord Shiva and often people observe fasts and more than often abide by certain austerities in their diets such as avoiding consumption of meat products, leafy vegetables and foods like curd and milk or anything which takes longer for the body to digest.

The month of shravan is observed by visits of devotees to the temples of Lord Shiva where the ritual of Abhishek of the Shiva Lingam is practiced. In this ritual the Lingam is poured upon with milk, ghee and curd by the devotees seeking prosperity and well being in return. Just like most rituals in Hinduism, Abhishek of Shivling is both symbolic and scientific.

But often it is seen that akin to those insects and worms which often turn out in this season, various individuals across the board creep out of their lairs with a communist agenda and are seen targeting and condescending Hindus for their belief in the centuries old traditions. They often argue about the amount of food being wasted and how the same could be used to feed hundreds of hungry stomachs everyday. Mere ignorance leads the Hindus with faith getting patronized by these bloodsucking communists.

As told above every practice in Hinduism has a symbolic and a scientific basis and this one too is no different. According to our indigenous medical science Ayurveda, products such as Milk, curd and ghee are considered similar to poison during the month of shravan as they have a high ‘vita’ dosh in them. Vit is one of the three doshas (vit, pitt and kaph) in human body responsible for the overall well being of body and mind. An imbalance amongst them leads to various health problems within the body. Consumption of milk and its products during this season when their vit dosha is in excess, it being produced by animals grazing grass which itself has high vit dosh (as pointed above about green leafy vegetables) leads to create an imbalance of vit within the human body by increasing its content.

Hence milk consumption is not advised and its effects are considered akin to poison. Now if we come to think of the only God known to have consumed poison for the sake of mankind we are reminded of Lord Shiva. Hence he happily accepts milk as the offering and in turn bless his children with prosperity and well being. This is the symbolism and science behind the simple ritual.

Today, there exists a cabal of opportunists out there who make sure not to leave any stones unturned to defame and demerit the Hindu traditions and its ways of life. One such attempt was done by the movie PK and was hailed high and righteous by self proclaimed liberals. For such people a similar analogy advocated by them should be used against them to expose them by asking how many poor and hungry stomachs they could have fed by those ₹300 which they wasted on that movie.

Citizens! The government needs your help

0

Democracy is not merely a form of government. It is primarily a mode of associated living, of conjoint communicated experience. It is essentially an attitude of respect and reverence towards fellow men.

Thus spake the polymath Dr. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, the father of the Indian Constitution. It needs no advanced knowledge, but merely the ability of observation to realize the sagacity behind the aforesaid quote. Consisting as a democratic government does of individuals elected by people, implementing their will is an integral part of the sacrosanct agreement between the government and the people so far as ideals go. The unwritten yet ideally agreed upon duty of the government is to recognize people as the authority and itself as merely the institution of their agents authorized to govern in the interests of the nation.

Yet, the very essence of an agreement is the acceptance of responsibility by the co-signatory, in less measure though it may be. In a conventionally passive country like ours, it remains an oft-forgotten fact that the people are collectively a signatory to the same agreement. Truly so, the government is responsible for the implementation of national interest. We assert as much, but we as citizens forget our share of responsibility–an equally significant part of the emblematic agreement between the government and the people. Ascending the palisade of glory as India does amidst all obstacles, it would be most impolitic for the citizenry to not be active in governance in its own capacity. When war threatens the integrity of a nation, the government must amass all employable strength in its beholden endeavour to defend, and what are ideal citizens in such a situation, but soldiers united in the same cause?

The current circumstances between India and China may not indicate a conventional war, but do concern the integrity of India. Twenty of our soldiers attained martyrdom in their endeavour to impede malice prepense from China. Should this not engender a sentiment of profound national insult, it would raise questions about the spirit of nationalism in the country. To compromise on national integrity is to err. With the wave of nationalism having swept across the country, the inebriated machinery of the government which was only too glad to keep losing land to China earlier, would now be compelled to take a decisive stand. To channel the anger among the masses in the appropriate direction is, therefore, of utmost essence.

Prime Minister Modi had given a clarion call for Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Almost as evidence of the vexing propensity of the citizens to leave everything to the government and do little by itself, the calls for boycotting Chinese products have hitherto remained only seasonal Twitter trends. On this occasion, however, with a greater number of public intellectuals than ever before endorsing the same, the public might be led to truly undertake the proposed boycott.

Indeed, I spiritedly disagree with those who have sought to ridicule this sentiment of anger. It is true that destroying the products already bought that have been manufactured in China serves no purpose, because China has already received the money for it. The intended aim is to henceforth reduce one’s dependence on Chinese products to the extent possible, in favour of indigenous goods.

The government can provide incentives to indigenous manufacturers and increase expenditure on R&D. It may also impose duties on imports from China. Yet, this shall not suffice. The participation by citizens is of equal if not greater essence. We as citizens can help by recognizing indigenous effort. Nothing, for instance, forbids us from utilizing websites such as Swadeshi Tech that provide Indian and other foreign alternatives to numerous Chinese applications. This website has been built by a school student. The youth market would truly prove opportune and we must not fail in bolstering it using such means as possible.

We cannot counter the Chinese monopoly in hardware manufacturing at present, but an attempt at promoting indigenous software is a good beginning. The same holds true for daily necessities such as soaps, shampoos, hair oils, stationery et al. This is the prerogative, nay the duty of the citizens. It is only through R&D, incentivization and perseverance that we could eventually develop adequate robustness in hardware manufacturing.

Some skeptics have objected to this endeavour on two grounds, namely: (1) that doing so would be detrimental to the Chinese common people with whom we have no quarrel, and (2) that some other country may well be prompted to do so against us in the future. Pessimistic opinions consequently formed are so bereft of substance that one cannot help but wonder at the prescience of such skeptics. I address these concerns hereunder:

  • Foremost, it is not the priority of the Government of India to be concerned about the interests of the Chinese common people. Their government is qualified for that endeavour. The priority of the Government of India is to be concerned about the best interests of India. Our country is under no obligation to be the platitudinous apostle of global compassion–concerned for one and all. The monopoly of China in the market has made it difficult for indigenous manufacturers to find appropriate space in the market. I fail to see why the skeptics cannot view this as a measure that can, as a corollary if not in chief capacity, contribute to eventual prosperity for them. Secondly, it could not possibly be so detrimental to the Chinese people as to constitute an economic cataclysm. As stated earlier, China enjoys a global monopoly insofar as manufacturing is concerned. Indian action alone could not concern it so great a manner as to lead it to focus entirely on it. I would contend that our relations have deteriorated beyond recondition. China is a mercantilist state, and as defence analyst Major Gaurav Arya observes, China shall not cease being expansionist even in the event that bilateral trade crosses $500 billion. India’s attempts at propitiating China shall always be futile. Decisive action is a must. This may prompt other countries to impose their own sanctions on China, thereby communicating to it that its belligerence shall invite consequences. The mere apprehension that the Chinese people would face a little inconvenience should not impede the government from taking appropriate steps in India’s interest.
  • It is an instance of timidity and I daresay amateurism to not reduce dependence on Chinese goods with the fear that another country would hypothetically reduce imports from India. Why would a country be prompted to do so unless it be crucial to its economy, so long as India does not project itself as a belligerent nation? Could a country not consider it crucial to do so regardless of our courteous relations with it? It is only courtesy that we can ensure. The decision to reduce imports from India is inevitably the prerogative of that country. The resolute stand by India constitutes an act of statesmanship, for as Abhijit Iyer-Mitra notes, India has set a precedent against China. It has inflicted greater damage on China than the damage it received itself, which is an encouraging gesture for such countries as are engaged in territorial disputes with China. I regret to say, therefore, that such exhibition of timidity evinces lack of prescience.

It would be preposterous to consider such skeptics sympathetic to Chinese interests. However, as opposed to briskly arriving at opinions that may create such an unfortunate impression, they had rather subjected their questions to a more profound analysis to their own benefit. This is particularly important given that Indians are sentimental people and the current situation is a catalyst for ignited passions.

If India is to be a superpower, it must steadily incorporate the demeanour that befits one. No organization would “declare” India a superpower upon reaching a particular threshold of nominal GDP or a rank on the Global Firepower Index. It is gradually achieved by a blend of high HDI, military power, firm resolve and proactive diplomacy. While India may eventually progress on the former two parameters, it must concentrate direly on the latter two. Not the least, the people must be active in supporting such national endeavours and work in tandem with the government for national interest.

The Mafia and the anti-Hindu Propaganda; all in the name of Sushant Singh Rajput

As soon as the news of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death broke out, a list of people (some of them being Sajid Nadiadwala, Dinesh Vijan, Salman Khan, Karan Johar (Dharma Productions), Aditya Chopra (Yash Raj Films), TSeries and a few star kids) started receiving hate from all over.

I wonder why some people make it to this hate list but not others. What is so special about them? When you look at SSR’s filmography, you can very well see that only some of the people he worked with are being targeted and not others. Why are Sajid Nadiadwala, Dinesh Vijan, Karan Johar and Aditya Chopra in the list but not Abhishek Kapoor, Ronnie Screwvala, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Rajkumar Hirani? What’s the reason behind this discrimination?

A lot of hate is being directed to Dharma Productions and Yash Raj Films. People complain that they promote only specific people, star kids and are the hot-spots of Nepotism in Bollywood. I wrote a complete article “Is Nepotism in Bollywood a genuine problem or a propaganda to hide something?” explaining why Nepotism was not an issue with SSR. It amazes me to see how these two production houses are the villains today but were hailed when they had literally adopted Shahrukh Khan in the late nineties and early two thousands. YRF produced a total of five films from 1993 to 2000 and four out of them were with SRK. Dharma Productions produced seven films from 1998 to 2006 and six of them were with SRK. Pick up any blockbuster movie of that period from Darr, DDLJ, Dil To Pagal Hai, K3G, Mohabbatain, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kal Ho Na Ho, Kabhi Alvida Na Kahna, etc. all of them were with these two production houses. And many more outside that time frame like My Name Is Khan, Chak De, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, etc. So, what changed over the years? Why are they being attacked now? Why?

Moreover, SRK founded his own Red Chillies Entertainment in 2003. How many new faces from outside the industry has his production house launched since then? He has more than enough money to invest in an IPL team but not enough to invest on a new face? What happened to the artist in him? Does that artist manifest itself only when the movie has to be promoted in Pakistan and earn overseas revenue? Why is no body asking to boycott his movies? I don’t want any body to target him, I am only looking for the reasons as to why some production houses are targeted and not others.

Salman Khan did not even work with SSR in any of his movies but he is still being hated based on Bollywood gossips and clips from scripted shows. Plus he is receiving hatred for his involvement in black buck hunting case and hit & run case. Even when the court of law acquitted him of the charges in both the cases. Quite surprisingly Sanjay Dutt who was not only convicted under Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act or TADA, but also did his jail time, is not targeted at all. Again, I am not saying he should be targeted, I am only looking for the reasons as to why one is being targeted and not the other. Why?

And the funniest targets are the star kids. Yes, they are privileged, no doubt about that, they don’t face the difficulties the people from the outside face. But this shouldn’t be the reason to hate them. And since when did education become a benchmark for acting? You don’t know if any one of these star kids become an intellectual, activist, environmentalist or a perfectionist exactly like Aamir Khan in the coming years. Don’t be surprised. Aamir Khan was exactly one of these star kids in the 90s. He started as a child artist in his father Mr. Tahir Hussain Khan’s films. Mr. Tahir Hussain Khan was predominantly a producer but also acted in some movies, wrote some and directed some. Aamir Khan was launched as a main lead in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in the year 1988, a movie produced by his uncle Nasir Hussain Khan, directed by his cousin Mansoor Khan. Later did several other movies with them. And exactly like the star kids today, Aamir Khan’s highest qualification is class X, he could not even complete class XI.

Quite interesting to me is the way he comes and tells engineering students as to how to study. The approach they need to take. God help those who follow his advice or “Gyan“!! More importantly, Aamir Khan like SRK, founded Aamir Khan Productions in 1999. How many new faces from outside the industry has he launched? Why is he not a target? Once again, I am not saying he should be targeted, I am only looking for the reasons as to why some are being targeted and others not. Why?

So what is the one thing that separates the ones who are in the cross hairs from the ones who are not?

This is not based on speculations or gossips or anything abstract but only on the filmography of the different people in question. You could do the same research that I did and will end up writing the exacts same things that I am writing.

If you look at SSR’s filmography, the people who were a part of the anti-Hindu anti-Brahmin propaganda movies and promoted Hinduphobia are not targeted: Abhishek Kapoor & Ronnie Screwwala worked in (Kai Po Che and Kedarnath); Vidhu Vinod Chopra & Raj Kumar Hirani worked in PK. All others who did normal movies without any hidden agenda/propaganda/narrative are abused: Sajid Nadiadwala did Chichhore, Dinesh Vijen did Raabta, YRF did Shudh Desi Romance, Sonchiriya, Detective Byomkesh Bakshi and Dharma Productions did Drive.

In fact, you should look at their individual filmography for instance Sajid Nadiadwal filmography or Dinesh Vijen, they don’t do propaganda movies let alone anti-hindu propaganda. I am not commenting on the quality of movies they produce, if they are good or bad, I am simply stating the point that they don’t do anti Hindu propaganda.

Salman Khan also falls in the same category, can you pick one anti-hindu propaganda movie he has done in the last decade where is promotes Hindu-phobia? No! Moreover, I think he is the only one who is playing a “Chulbul Pandey” as a heroic character, otherwise a Pandit character is either orchestrating Riots (Kai Po Che) or killing Mansoor (Kedarnath). I can give you tons of examples. But, I guess I have made the point here so no need to spam the article with more examples.

Karan Johar stopped doing movies like My name is Khan(2010), he started producing nationalist movies like Raazi and Kesari or the upcoming Shershaan or distributing movies like Bahubali. I will come back to why he switched sides in just a moment.

This is not the first time when such people are being targeted. Attacks on exact same people have been happening for decades in one form or the other.

Gangsters and dons were openly threatening and shooting the producers who would not dance to their tunes. Gulshan Kumar was shot sixteen times and today his son Bhushan Kumar (T-series) is being targeted in a different form. Rakesh Roshan was shot twice. Mahesh Bhatt, Ritesh Sidhwani, Vivek Oberoi, Sohail Khan (Salman Khan’s brother) and Sajid Nadiadwala have time and again asked for police protection. You can see the same names repeating. Mahesh Bhatt may be doing a majority of his films with Emraan Hashmi and showing explicit nudity in the movies, but he hasn’t been a promoter of Hinduphobia. You can look at the movies he has produced over the years.

Although, the then NDA government started amending the laws regarding film financing by the end of the year 2000. I will do another article on film financing, but for now I will just mention that a lot of producers were using “undisclosed sources” which is a polite way of saying “underworld money” to arrange funds for the movies because the film industry was not allowed to borrow money from legal financial institutions like the banks before 2000. Even though the law was amended but the underworld roots were too deep by that time to uproot just like that.

The source of the money; if you use anti-national sources, the story and the subtle references in the movie will be anti-national as simple as that. You don’t need rocket science to understand that. Do you? Now you can imagine as to why only “Khans and Sex” sold in Bollywood for a long time. And now you also know why the gangsters and dons were glorified in Bollywood movies; why a don’s sister helps the underprivileged, a terrorist has a good heart; and also why a “Rahim Chacha” always sacrifices; hero’s friend who dies helping the hero is Abdul; why a shudh Hindi or Sanskrit speaking person ends up being a villain and a Urdu speaking person is honest and loyal. Shahrukh Khan and Ram Gopal Verma had come on record stating that people from the underworld interfere with the scripts and other aspects of film making. May be that’s why SRK raises a red flag every time he visits the US; his powerful “connections”.

May be the reduced influence of underworld is the reason producers like Karan Johar had started switching sides. Quite interestingly when the impact of underworld on Bollywood is reducing, intellectual terrorism is increasing in various forms. Be it in the form of media trials or selective half baked sting operations, or #MeToo allegations or social/political activism.

Many in Bollywood and outside had their mistresses become actresses and actresses become their mistresses; a clear case of “Quid Pro Quo (this for that)” type of sexual harassment at work place. Of course they get away in the eyes of general public by calling it “dating” or “just friends”. But when #metoo happens, what names come out? A nationalist from a small town in Maharashtra, Nana Patekar!! A “sanskari” character from a small town in Bihar, Alok Nath!! By the way, the upcoming movie Dil Bechara, the last movie of late SSR, was delayed because Mukesh Chabra, who was directing it had to step down amidst a #MeToo allegation. I don’t know why courts are needed, when justice has to be done online.

The person who has more followers wins the case. It does not matter what the court of law or the truth says. A million people repeating a lie a million times becomes the only truth, as simple as that. Next time when #metoo happens, please see the underlying motive. This has become a tool to target a few people.

Congratulations to everyone who don’t do their homework before posting their opinions on internet on whatever platform or in which ever form, they have become the newest face of the mafia. So, please don’t complain when you see these new star kids signing films with Hindu-phobic content. Because they now know for sure who is targeted. It has become very easy for content creators to succeed by supporting anti-Hindu propaganda and creating Hindu-phobic content. And I am not even talking about the politicians or political parties doing their part in making things worse. Creators on the other side of the spectrum get banned or humiliated and abused. Please have a look at the article that I wrote a couple of weeks ago Intellectual Lynching, frustration and suffocation. Sometimes I wonder why people don’t take some time out to think before hating some thing or someone or simply spreading hate. Generally, people these days are much more cautious in sharing their views for something they like or appreciate as compared to something they don’t like or hate.

Thank you reading! Please do share the article as much as possible, because you are the only people who help me in reaching more readers.

Ganguly Shirt off in Lords after defeating England in Year 2002.

It is need of an hour to adopt post pandemic work culture seriously

As we know that unlockdown procedure has been started in various phases and we have to learn to live with Covid 19. Now we, and only we, have a liability of maintaining the pandemic work culture. I would like to share my recent experience in a city of Varanasi – I had been waiting in office of architecture consultant for my piece of advice. I saw head entrepreneur, well educated himself, came from outside and started working instantly on his desktop without taking due care of standard operating procedure of following the guidelines of government to take precaution. Likely his staff followed the same step. When I objected, he just casually laughed the matter away sighting the famous quote of unknown intellectual “hona hoga tho ho jayega”. He was putting his life in danger and as well as of them who were in touch with him and should be penalized under section 270 of IPC for malignantly spreading the infectious disease. This is the level of irresponsibility shown by highly professionals. Until it falls on oneself, no body realizes the pain. It’s true. It is not the time of shifting the responsibility on other. Don’t wait for administration, management or employer to take care of yourself. We don’t have to create chaos at our work place. Neither panic, nor create environmental panic. We have to delete ‘what to do’ phrase and refresh ‘I will do it’. Take initiative. Don’t be at the demanding side, be ready to offer. We have to volunteer to do work outside our domain. We have just to rely on trust, common civic and hygienic sense and recommendation of social and physical distancing by government authorities.

Physical and social distancing does not means distancing with your personal virtues of politeness and care. Request of physical distancing should not be felt like a rebuke to others. Don’t make social distancing an excuse to reveal your indulgence with lethargy. Physical distancing is with individuals not with your work. Simple hygienic work culture like keeping sanitiser with you, cleaning your hands frequently, avoid touching face and eyes, wash your hands before entering your house or touching your loved ones will help everyone. Try constructive involvement of your smart phones like learning new ways of e-teaching, making use of PPTs to make your notes, especially teachers and lawyers. Big school brands have started this initiative. Download digital payment tools in phone to avoid touching currency notes. Try to have access to technological tools to avoid contacts.

The organizations and employers may emphasize on non monetary benefits like paid leave on alternate days to manage implications of transportation of staff (generally staff uses public means of transport which is better to avoid in present situation) rather than formal cash based incentives. In extreme conditions, alike central and state government, the hike in salary or increment can be put on hold in extreme condition to meet out unexpected expenses or maintaining the appropriate balance to run recurring expenses of the organization. Every small and big organization (government, semi government or private sector) are always concerned about their retainers and they expect the same from them.

Another debated term will soon come into news is of getting herd immunity. This happens when a large proportion (around 80 per cent) of the population develops immunity to a virus. This could either be through mass immunization or by having people infected with the virus, recovering from it and developing immunity to it. Mass immunization is definitely a distant tool to foresee at this point of time. Once a threshold has been reached, herd immunity gradually eliminates the disease from the population. This may take  time or it may be a hypothesis but we have eliminated deadly disease like influenza, tuberculosis with concept of herd immunity.

On a lighter note, all your patrons (for/under whom you work) are only humans and not super human. They will also get affected by every minute dynamics happening in the society. And even they are vulnerable to make faults. We have to learn to live with uncertainty  without  letting it weigh us down.

Corruption in UP Police reaches to new high: Taking lives of their own colleagues for a gangster

The real and rare face of up cops was seen during the wretched night of 2nd and 3rd July, where up police lost its 8 brave policemen in a conspired shootout at Bikru village in Kanpur district.

The scary and terrified face of that rusted police department was busted when in further investigation it was found that colleague of those 8 brave matryers played a role of traitor in that shootout conspiracy. It was found that SI Vinay Tiwari was helping gangster Vikas Dubey in execution of all his illegal works and Vinay Tiwari acted as a shield for him in all his illegal and unlawful activities, not only SI but entire local police station of Chaubepur was involved in that horrified shootout.

There was nothing surprising that police was involved in that conspiracy, UP police is very well known for being traitor, corrupt and harassing the common people. Corruption in police department is like the regular dawn and dusk that we see in the sky, it has now become universal truth.

Reform in entire police department of Uttar Pradesh is much needed and it must be done as early as possible because now roots of corruption in entire police department is such strong that it is killing it’s own people, till now only common people were victims of police but now they are not leaving their own colleagues.

It is very common in Uttar Pradesh that if a common man is suffering and he needs the help of police then it is like he or she has to bribe the police no matter he is on right side or wrong side.

Arts in pre and post social media era

My first brush with major decision-making had arrived when I had to choose a stream for myself out of Science, Commerce, Arts in my high-school. What was a potential turning point in my life came very easy to me. I was very clear early on that I wanted to do arts which also really meant I wanted nothing to do with numbers, chemicals and anxiety-inducing theories. Things were not the same, however, for my peers who also, like me, wanted to pursue arts, but, fortunately for their parents and society, and unfortunately for themselves, scored good marks.

Our school, and I suspect, the education system of those times was infested with only one parameter to allocate students in various streams. You score 75% and above, you’re meant to be in science. Less than that, commerce for you. Arts for those who didn’t really feature in good-looking mark-sheets. Those days, top rankers to have chosen arts was an anomaly. In fact, in my twelve years in the same school, I hardly remember any rank-holders pursuing anything other than science or commerce.

Even my decision to pursue arts raised a lot of eyebrows as many teachers and neighbours could not wrap their heads around the fact that I chose, and my parents allowed me, to pursue arts when my name was enlisted in science. Science was for brained and arts was for hare-brained. This perverse conditioning was so ingrained in our acutely ossified academic institutions that none of us saw the decay within. The same infestation eventually exposed its ugly posterior in the professional set-up as well.

It was a herculean task for an Arts student to climb up the financial ladder or even the social appeasement ladder. Many of us, when we set our foot in the professional field with dreamy eyes and solid confidence, were paid peanuts, despite holding master’s degree, some of us, with distinction. Many of us eventually fell off the ladder to climb another stabler-secure one namely – government services or academics. The pressure to prove ourselves was doubly intense. One, because we already deemed ourselves less of our counterparts by choosing to pursue something that conventionally ‘anyone could do’. Secondly, if we have chosen that, we at least had to get a job that has respect and money. If you’re an engineer or a doctor, you’ve already skipped the first few steps of social appeasement ladder but god forbid you chose a career that doesn’t churn good money, you have a higher, taller and mightier mountain to climb.

On the other end of the precipice was however the internet and social media that changed the course for artists and the ones with unconventional careers. It opened a new horizon for copywriters, designers, painters, poets, dancers, etc. to shine and get their share of spotlight they deserved all this while. Poems and quotes about not underestimating the power of arts went viral on social media and WhatsApp. The stumbling blocks became stepping stones when perspectives changed and society was exposed to new career demands and segments that didn’t really need a degree in science or commerce to have a bright future.

Even the most run-of-the-mill company needed someone to make them look good in the new and emerging virtual world and only a coterie of artists, writers and creative minds could make it possible for them. The talents, skills and hard work that was an oversight in the professional set-up were now what people turned to for business. Art is slowly and steadily being seen as a viable career contrary to its previous status of being a hobby or an extra skill set to flaunt in the living room in front of next-door neighbours. The subjects that were an embarrassing casualty of patronisation are now looked with sincerity and sometimes, dare I say so, with envy.

Social media recalibrated fresh conversations around careers like poets, doodle artists, writers, and illustrators and rendered much-deserved dignity to the labour of arts. However while the grip to choose one’s own path has relatively loosened, our education system still needs a lot of refurbishing to do. Looking at students within boxes of science, commerce and arts is highly myopic and to think that Arts students don’t have a bright (read heavy-pocketed) future, at worse, is archaic. Social media has done its part. It’s time to continue the conversations in the real world.

Depression: A curse for society

Depression and anxiety are common illnesses worldwide. More than 264 million people are suffering from depression across the globe, as reported by WHO in Jan 2020 (World Health Organisation). This figure must have risen sharply during COVID-19 Pandemic.

There are many reasons for depression and anxiety however main reason is lack of education in programming our mind towards seeing difficulties, unwarranted situations as a part of life which is a normal routine since human evolution.

What is depression? Though Depression is classified as mood disorder however it is different from usual mood fluctuations and short-lived emotional responses to challenges in everyday life. It is normal to be sad and upset with various events of life however if the feeling of hopelessness is on regular basis, then it is worrisome. If a person’s feeling of sadness, loss or anger affects day-to-day activity then we can say that the person happens to be in depressed state. People experience depression in different ways, in several cases it influences relationships, it may affect daily work lowering productivity, lost interest in studies causing waste of time and leads to chronic health issues for some people.

What are the causes of depression?

  • If a person’s family history shows mental illnesses, then chances of affecting a person is likely.
  • If a person is under severe stress for long duration or a traumatic situation in childhood triggered body to react with fear can also be the reason of depression.
  • Medical conditions such as insomnia, chronic illness, chronic pain and some disorders on mental level can lead to depression.
  • History of drug and alcohol abuse for a long period can also contribute for this disease.
  • Divorce or any firmly bonded relationship parted away or lost…
  • Poor performance compared to siblings or peer group or failure in exam.

Whenever you are depressed, just think or act upon some of the points to realise how fortunate you are.

•       Visit a site where our brave soldiers are protecting our boundaries with full commitment, love and happiness where we cannot even think of our survival…
•       Meet a farmer who has given his soul for a particular crop and even borrowed money and lost everything owing to natural calamity…
•       Just visit a mental asylum and see the condition of patients…
•       Meet people who have lost their vital organ or facing issues since birth and still living happily…•       Visit to a cremation/burial ground and realise that ultimate destination will be getting crushed into ash/get buried, what’s the point in holding every disappoint/failure in the head…

Ways to come out of depression:

  • Exercise regularly at least for 30 minutes or as advised by doctor, it helps in releasing endorphin which lifts up the mood and develops feeling of well-being.
  • Low serotonin levels also lead to depression, anxiety, aggressive behavior. Balanced food habit, swimming, bicycling, brisk walking, jogging can increase the serotonin level to help come out of depression, anxiety, digestive system issues and so on…
  • Yoga, Pranayama coupled with Meditation is the best answer for all mental health related issues adding benefits to physical and social health. Daily meditation for 20 minutes helps greatly to reduce stress, synchronizing brain functions to eliminate/reduce various kinds of diseases on mental level, improving memory function.
  • Go and serve needy ones or deprived. Sharing and caring takes a person out of “ME” attitude and transforms it to “WE” attitude.
  • Good sleep for 7 to 8 hours.
  • Herbs/medicines taken under Doctor’s advice also helps a lot.

Long term depression lead to suicidal tendencies, hence it is better to adopt above mentioned lifestyle changes in time and see life with gratitude.

We really need to go back towards our spiritual wisdom to bring about change in our life and disseminate it worldwide on the road to overcome mental issues and towards improving social health. We really need to admire organisations whole heartedly who are driving efforts in this direction, Art of Living, Isha Foundation, Patanjali, ISKCON and so many….
