High application form fees are a very important issue that needs to get addressed. But no one is talking about it, NEET-JEE has now become a money-making examination of the government. For the past 2 years, I am trying to raise this issue in front of everyone, filed various RTIs to the exam conducting agency to get the exact amount of money collected by them in the form of application form fees.

NEET and JEE are both national-level examinations conducted by NTA (National Testing Agency) which is an autonomous body. NEET is conducted as an entrance examination for upcoming medical students by which students can take admissions in various courses like MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BVSC, etc. on the other hand JEE is conducted as an entrance examination for upcoming engineering students.

NEET & JEE 2020 application fees:

RTIs filed to get information about collected Fees

In 2019 an RTI was filed by me to get details of the amount of money NTA gets in the form of application form fees, and the data came was shocking for everyone. NTA gets 1,92,43,22,162.07 Rs only in form of NEET 2019 application form fees. in the same reply, I also asked about expenses incurred by NTA for successfully conducting NEET 2019 examination across India but the reply was not related to the information asked me, NTA replied “Fee collected by NTA for all its Examinations is used for the purpose of its examination related works only. NTA is a not for profit organization”

If the NTA is a not-for-profit organization, why is it not giving out the details of its expenses?

NEET-JEE 2020

NEET-JEE 2020 examination was in big controversy due to continued demands for postponement, various cases were filed in the honorable Supreme Court of India to further postpone exam due to covid19 pandemic, but exams were held in the month of September.

Seeking information about application form fees again, I filed another RTI. This year the NTA gave manipulative replies, instead of giving details of form fees they gave details of the total number of students applied for the examination. even though I tried to find out details of money. but in the case of JEE examination data was incorrect and misleading. it is not possible to find out the exact amount of money collected by NTA.

NEET 2020 application form fees

The total number of students who applied for NEET 2020- 1597435.

1. UR- 474,353× 1500 = 711,529,500Rs2. OBC+EWS = 706214+93915.797,849×1400= 1,116,988,600Rs3. ST+SC+ = 100519+221253 = 319,492×800=255,593,600Rs4. Pwd in all category – 5741×800= 4,592,800RsNEET 2020 Total :- 2,088,704,500 Rs Approximately.

  • If we calculate NEET 2019 and NEET 2020 form fees collection approximately we will get near about 400cr rupees, still, we don’t have exact data of JEE MAINS 2019 and 2020.

In comparison to NEET 2019, the NTA increased application form fees in all categories.

  • NEET 2013:- GEN/OBC- 1000, SC/ST/PH:- 550
  • AIPMT 2015:- GEN/OBC:- 1200, SC/ST/PH:- 650
  • NEET 2019:- GEN/OBC:- 1400, SC/ST/PWD/TG:- 750
  • NEET 2029:- GEN/OBC:- 1500, SC/ST/PWD/TG:- 800

There are so many questions that arise, NTA is increasing application form fees year by year but why is there no details of expenses? why is there no transparency in the system? Is this examination becoming a money-making machine of the government? These question will remain unanswered until strict action is not taken against these irregularities
