DMK patronage of Murasoli versus support base of intellectuals, nationalists and patriots for Thuglak, Super Star struck the right cord

0

Super Star through his superb acting, speeches and even through his deafening silence, known to kindle the inner mind of people of Tamil Nadu in particular and entire India in general.

Tamil Nadu is eagerly waiting for the Super Star to save the state like how Lord Krishna saved Vrindhavan by lifting Govarthan giri.

DMK coming back to power in 2021 is seen by majority of people in the state as big danger to the state because the state has been ruined almost completely by the dynastic-family centric politics, politics of corruption and rowdie-ism. The dynastic political force has destroyed the Bhakti culture of the state by promoting anti-God, anti-Hindu, anti-Brahmin, anti-Hindi rhetoric and by dividing the people through the myth of Dravidian versus Aryan race.

Super Star Rajnikanth has rightfully stated that although the news magazine ‘Murasoli’ was started way back in 1942, till date the newspaper enjoys only political patronage of hard core DMK party men or sympathisers or those who follow the dynastic principles of DMK. What the Super Star has stated was right, perfect and correct example that Murasoli if anyone subscribe and read shall necessarily be a DMK follower but on the contrary those who buy and read Thuglak are largely intellectuals, patriots and nationalists. The above statement does not mean other magazines are bad and readers of all such magazines are not intellectuals.

Thuglak fought against the wind and time and became the choicest delicacy of intellectuals but Murasoli has just reduced as a mere mouth piece of DMK carrying tailored news items to promote the ideology of DMK and family interest.

Whereas Thuglak questions, criticizes, presents credible facts, data and want people to unite to build new India. Over the time Thuglak has never reduced as a pamphlet of any political party but always stood as a lamp and shown the right and correct path both to people of India and the administrators.

Super Star has not denigrated the readers of Murasoli nor has praised the readers of Thuglak or claimed the readers of Thuglak to be superior. He has simply stated the fact just to show the difference. The unsaid message of the above reference is that patriots and nationalists always work for the nation whereas party cadres work only for the party and such political parties in turn would work for the family that owns the party and not the nation.

Another pointer of Super Star is that people must liberate themselves from party centric temperament and must evolve as patriots and nationalists and must start to appreciate neutral and true information and not fictions and figment of imagination as true.

Tamil Nadu must be saved from dynastic, corrupt politics and the true culture and divine tradition of the state needs to be resurrected. Anti-God, anti-Hindu, anti-Hindi rhetoric has distorted the political landscape of the state and only by defeating DMK, the state can be saved. It looks like even several political parties in the state are also waiting for the Super Star to enter the politics because even several political parties in the state also wants to save the state from DMK.

DMK had succeed the last parliamentary election through well organized, continuous selling of various lies, impossible promises, negative information and minority appeasement but people seems to have started to realize their mistake. Many people are also regretting for supporting DMK in the last parliament election. Everyone are looking for a best alternative and most of them agree that Super Star is the only option available right now to save the state.

Like how sage Vasistha guided Lord Ram to kill several demons and saved the sages to perform yagnas, let us hope Thuglak will remain as a guiding force to the Super Star to enter politics and save the state from hate-God, corrupt, dynastic politics.

The anti-CAA protests shall not appeal to the realists

0

The minds teeming with the ideas of a social revolution and bodies high on hormones, may have been swept into the farcical anti-CAA protests and riots alike, but the minds of the realists have not succumbed to the influence of such hormones, and for good reasons enumerated as follows:

(1) The first is the duplicitous nature exhibited by the opposition parties. In the words of Professor Anand Ranganathan, the same Congress and the Left, who are now protesting, demanded the same CAA in 2012 and again in 2015. The BJP has also managed to unearth a 2003 video of Dr. Manmohan Singh requesting the quondam government to grant citizenship to Bangladeshi refugees. That they should backtrack is not only surprising, but also condemnable.

(2) Secondly, the appalling lack of sympathetic sentiment for the persecuted religious minorities and the desperation to project the CAA as anti-Muslim has not resonated well with the people. The very emphasis on “anti-Muslim” makes it evident that the protests served to further the political goals of vested interests. Eminent author and intellectual, Tarek Fatah, laments that the Left in general and the Communists in particular have incited the Muslims on the path of protests, and have thus used them as cannon fodder for their own agendas. It is difficult to not agree with him, for with illiteracy holding the Islamic community in a vice-like grip, how are the Musalmans to comprehend the nuances behind the CAA? I am quite prepared to say that a musalman engaged in the protests shall be clueless when posed questions as regards the manner in which the Act supposedly affects his citizenship or his community.

(3) Thirdly, the protesters have not protested on issues that matter. They have not questioned the government regarding the timing of the introduction of the Bill (later Act). There are studies available on the net that establish a link between high internal violence and low economic growth. The government, of course, must have anticipated the impending violence. Why, then, at times of low economic growth, should they have brought in the Bill, considering that the impending violence could, possibly, further affect the economic growth? The response given by Amit Shah to this unasked question was that the Ministry of Home Affairs could not delay its work simply on account of economic slowdown, which is, frankly, a worldwide phenomenon. In the words of the Chairman of the PM’s Economic Advisory Council, Bibek Debroy, reformatory steps would take at least eighteen months to result in changes. It is unwise to expect the MHA to keep its work waiting for that long.

However, the protesters could have done well to ask the government about its exclusion of atheists from the Act, who are similarly persecuted. Appallingly, no one from either the clueless protesters or the academia, bothered to pose this prudent question to the government. The protesters in general and the students in particular would, therefore, do well to concentrate on their studies. The utopian-ist notions of a Left-revolution are unfounded, and therefore shall not materialize, something I explain in my next point.

(4) Lastly, in the age of nationalism, one cannot hope to get away with the words, “Hinduon se azadi” in India. It would suffice to say that the people are not impressed with the provocative, secessionist and communally divisive slogan. In the words of Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the nationalism seen in India is that of confidence. The average Indian has seen his country achieve the feat of going up four ranks in terms of nominal GDP (#10 to #6) in five years. He has seen the Ease of Doing Business Index jump spectacularly. He has seen a government committed to national security, unlike in the earlier days when monthly bomb blasts were the norm. He has also seen a surge in his slandered faith, for a culture-rooted academia has taken shape. This is seen with the sessions held by institutions such as The Jaipur Dialogues, Srijan Foundation, Arth: A Cultural Fest, IndicAcademy etc. All these serve to explore India’s past, learn from it, propagate pride in it and analyse the factors behind its downfall. It is but natural for an Indian to thus feel renewed hope and confidence in the destiny of this country, and lead Indians to assert themselves on the world stage with their unique geopolitical interests.

What I intend to convey is that this resurgence is a result of constructive academic work and research into the past, combined with a strong government at the helm of affairs. The right-wing, is of course, prone to thinking along emotional lines, for nationalism is driven by emotion but given time, it shall, no doubt, emerge as a force of rationality. As I said, nationalism is driven by emotion, but to complete the sentence, it is prudent to note that nationalism is solidified only by logic, data and sources. Understandably, the right-wing would not want this resurgence to wither away.

Therefore, provoking the Right-Wing shall simply accelerate its inevitable growth. It shall serve as a formidable counter to the left-dominated intelligentsia and academia. To my mind, the youngsters are prone to riding on the horse of idealism, and thus find the notions of socialist revolutions very attractive. They may rest assured, however, that nothing of the sort could ever materialize, especially when the Right-Wing is in the stage of a veritable renaissance that cannot be stopped with the combined might of vested interests, either local or global.

In conclusion, therefore, it may be said that one should expect similar outrage with the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code, for a foe with vested interests utterly refuses to see sense. The protester on the streets is not the foe. He is an unwanted obstacle at best. The foe is the entity inciting the protester and providing him with incentives to do so. The incentive must be something of such significance that the protester is prepared to face the metaphorical bullet of the inarguably superior and organized forces of law-enforcement.

The foe is, therefore, embedded within the system, and can be weeded out only with the combined forces of government machinery and civil society. The right-wing should work in cognizance of the same.

The Indian jungle book

0

We are living in extraordinary times. India with its thousands of years of history which most Indians are proud of is standing at a historical cusp where it appears to be in a position to seek its second freedom – freedom from itself.

Freedom at midnight was the first freedom from the British colonial Raj which ruled us, molded us into British culture for over two centuries. Indians a population of around thirty crores were ruled by the Goras with awe and not shock. They demonstrated style with substance. The whites also impressed us with their administrative abilities and the material they could create and produce better than us because they were far ahead of the world in the Industrial revolution, which India had completely missed. We looked up to their cars, trams, trains, clothing, cutlery, crockery, linen, guns, rifles, cannons and a professional armed forces ethos to name a few. They enamored us with their discipline, punctuality, conscientiousness, work ethics and demonstrative integrity.

“Gora Sahib cannot be wrong and will never be late” was the unquestionable faith every Indian ruled by them had firmly planted in his head and heart. They made roads, railroads, designed Lutyen’s city, clubs, Fine wines, scotch whisky and soda, gave us advanced medicine and surgery, large efficient factories, and a parliament too. They treated their women differently and involved them socially with dance and drama. We looked up in awe. Revered them, respected them, yes we did.

They were highly organized- in fact so organized that not more than 10,000 British civil servants and 2000 military officers were ever stationed in India, ruling 30,0000000 Indians! Mind boggling span of control – 1:250000. One Gora Vs 25 thousand Kalas. Divide and rule- nah we were already divided into more than 550 states, ruled by individual kings- totally intoxicated and totally selfish- who did what they wanted to with their coffers and their subjects. This made their job easy. They also were smart enough to find that we Indians are very greedy and selfish, self centered and they used it to their advantage to the hilt. They could easily find Jaichands- traitors- within and could get their way around us with ease.

Goras adapted to the Indian weather, the women and yet never learnt our language – may be since we had several of them. So they taught us their language- English- which was taken as superior to any other Indian language as the inventions and discoveries were in their language, what they produced was named by them. A club had to be called a club, a game of Cricket as Cricket, cinema as cinema, a hospital a hospital, surgery as surgery, Operation theatre an OT, a fire brigade as fire brigade an army Brigade as brigade, police as police, a file as a file.

They left us in 1947 and we had started ruling ourselves. Who ruled us? Those who were educated in Oxford, who spoke their language, smoked their cigarettes, drank their whiskey- whisky, soda and Cigars still existed- but in spaces confined within four walls.

How did they prove to Indians that they were Indians? Vesh Bhusha!! Dressing up like Indians- Dhoti Kurta or Kurta Pajama and a Gandhi topi was enough to melt in the Crowd. And the Crowd welcomed them. Ordinary Indians still considered those Indians superior to them. They were Indian Sahibs. We were used to remain oppressed and because of that even after Azadi we wanted some figures that we could look up to. And that worked for them very well. They made it work for good seventy years.

All that changed was Vesh Bhusha but inside those clothes were Desi Sahibs. Goras left us with infrastructure, Desi Sahibs, a breed called Anglo Indians – a mixed breed with genes of Gora Sahibs and Indian Dusky women and large number of genetically hard wired Jaichands. All of them existed happily ever after the virtual Independence on 15th August 1947.

These Sahibs got a stamp of approval of Crores of Indians to rule them through democratic voting process and they made 5 year plan (for a govt to exist) into a never ending repetitive process. They could brain wash us in such a way that we voted like programmed robots and they carried on having a ball. Making them rule us volunteeringly.

Cut to 2014.

With a stroke of luck good for some bad for some, came BJP in Power and Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of India. From day one these Desi sahibs and Desi mem sahibs realized that this man was different. He meant business and wore patriotism on his sleeve- spoke the link language of Indians ie Hindi and fumbled in English at times. Oh- here is our man who not only dons our clothes but speaks like us eats like us (Vegan) and behaves like us! He is religious, traditional to the core and again wears his traditional ceremonies on the sleeve.

He ruled with a firm hand made some unpopular decisions and some mistskes too (Indians by now had smartened up and realized that anyone can make a mistake)- were ready to pardon if a mistake was not deliberate and the action was in their interest and in the national Interest.
In 2019 as the Old Sahibs and mem sahibs thought he will not be accepted by the Indian masses yet again, he bounced back with bigger victory. People called him a tiger and he was appreciated across the world. He learnt his ropes in the first five years and made some structural changes.

When structural changes happen “Dhartee thodi Kaamp Jaati hai”. An old saying. Many were unhappy but most knew that India is not a two wheeler bike that can change course in a second, it is a huge mutimillion ton Ship which takes a lot of time to change course. Modi made Indians proud- after a 70 year gap Indians started feeling that they were great and India is great. Motivation and morale is a matter of heart and perception- Modi did that. It is a long term investment. There is no price to pride and honor- we thought we got it after all.

Most of us who have been in the positions of responsibility would realize that the most difficult thing to change in an organization is its culture and morale of work force. Here Modi was dealing with a national culture of ‘Saab chalta hai’ 130 crore people!. He tried hard to demolish this culture and to a large extent got it right. But the old grand sahibs now found this tiger to be too difficult to handle. He was taking bold steps one after the other. Age old problems like Kashmir which people thought could never be resolved were handled very well and solved in a way which no one could have ever imagined. International diplomacy was at its best.

Now how to stop this Tiger the political opposition thought. They learnt from the nighnouring Pakistan and adopted their policy ‘Bleed India with thousand cuts’ so bleed Modi with thousand cuts. Bleed and Tire the tiger out. Tiger ko harana hai to usko thaka do, demoralize kar do.

That is the time parallel story ran out. The Indian jungle book….Wolves cannot face a tiger from the front. What do they do? The collect their own pack and also request Hyenas to join them so that they can bite him from all sides making noise chasing him , biting him and scaring the rest of the animals in the jungle who themselves are scared to come to the rescue of the Tiger- their king.

Make noise on every issue right or wrong in this mock fight even the rodents join up, small and big rats too, because they also will get a pound of flesh which alone is tough. Imagine rats eating Tiger’s meat- what a delicacy! Rodents, daga bazz, Jaichands, Lizards all help the Wolves at this time. Tiger is alone. Send out hundreds of arrows in all direction – Koi ek to lagega. They need one arrow to hit the right body part of the Tiger and so they chase him shouting CAA, CAA, CAA CAA, KOO, KOOO, CHOO CHOO CHOO trying to scare and confuse the whole lot in the jungle. They also bribed some buffoons and monkeys sitting on the trees with peanuts and bananas to also shout CAA CAA CAA in chorus.

Your king is getting tired, help him don’t let him down. You will be gone but your next generation will perish and eaten by the wolves. They may find your children’s meat tasty- a delicacy! Don’t be alarmed this can happen. Amen.

The Hindu privilege as a Joshi, on drugs

0

AIB co-founder Rohan Joshi’s first stand-up special “Wake ‘n’ Bake” subtly touched upon two themes that the Right and the Left have polarizing views about- Hindu privilege and legalizing marijuana. Before I start, please understand that I’m not writing this with an intention to dissect Joshi’s jokes and frame them in a way where they compliment my narrative. The parts which I’m rebutting in this article mostly belonged to more of a serious segment of the show. I’m also not taking any offence at any of the jokes (that’s the Left’s job, not mine). Overall, leaving the below-mentioned fallacies aside, “Wake ‘n’ Bake” was a delight to watch.

So halfway around the show, Joshi started to measure his privilege. He took one step forward for every “privilege” he has; like being a Hindu, who was born in an affluent area, who went to an English medium school, who’s fair skinned and so on. By the time he was done taking the steps of privilege, he had covered a fair portion of the stage. He feels that as a privileged person, although he has had to work hard, he didn’t have to struggle. Dare I remind him that the kid who has an SC or ST or an OBC tag to back his “struggles” doesn’t even have to get a nearly decent score to get admission into most reputed colleges. While the Hindu general category kid with an above average score ends up having to study in a tier-3 college.

He further rubbed in his Hindu privilege by reciting an anecdote of the time he was 18. Joshi recalls that he was driving and happened to break a signal. A cop caught him but 18-year-old Rohan was let go because he too was an upper-class Hindu. Upon reaching home, he narrated this incident to his father who seemed to be accustomed to such happenings. Now, if this isn’t the worst way to make an argument against the so called unfair Hindu privilege, I don’t know what is. Here Joshi tries to highlight the advantage he has because he’s a Hindu. In doing so, he makes the mistake of holding Hindu privilege as a whole accountable for being released when in reality, the cop let him go because they belonged to the same religious group.

If you replace Hindu in this situation with any other religious group, the aftermath of this scene would be identical. Muslims tend to have a bias towards Muslims, Christians tend to have a bias towards Christians, Parsis tend to have a bias towards Parsis and the same applies for Hindus. Apart from this, I think one should not whine about his privileges while happily utilizing his privileges.

He is also seen advocating apolitical behavior. He insists that since he has a lot of privilege, he has no idea about what’s happening “below” him and thus should not have a say in those matters. Who’s going to tell Rohan privileged Joshi that he is simply encouraging and practicing an ignorant behavior. He feels people must check their privilege and simply say “I don’t know.” Uttering “I don’t know” is a privilege in itself when you’re so high on weed in your own zone that you don’t even bother to learn about what’s occurring outside. Please don’t use Hindu privilege as an excuse for your laziness and lack of interest in happenings outside of your Gaanja infused world.

Speaking of drugs- surprise, surprise- Joshi is all for legalization of Marijuana. I realize that Marijuana is usually consumed as a recreational drug and isn’t very damaging if taken in regulation. In fact, I’m all for the libertarian belief that the government should have little to no say in such matters. But buddy we live in India. Just because legalization “worked” in other countries, it doesn’t necessarily imply that it’ll work in India too. Legalization of drugs will definitely have different outcomes in the States and in India. The USA is not going to see high orphaned kids on the streets living miserable short lives; India is.

In a developed country, legalization simply turns the illegal consumers of drugs into legal consumers. While in India where drugs aren’t really mainstream in rural areas, legalization will have disastrous effects. Let’s try to contain the drug epidemic in the Bollywood circles and not let it reach a poor common-man who will inevitably fall prey to the drug’s harmful effects. That said, I think India has a future for legalization but that future is at-least 30 years away. Till then, legal or not, drugs are bad and so is alcohol.

Ramachandra Guha’s message to regional parties, Congress is first enemy of India, defeat it fast

0

The noted historian Ramachandra Guha in true sense has accused and blamed the people of Kerala in general and people of Waynad in particular for electing the 5th generation dynast-Rahul Gandhi and his party -Indian national congress.

The congenital phobia of Ramachandra Guha against Modi is well known. But finally the inability and inefficiency of his (probably) the matinee idol, 5th generation dynast of the congress party – Rahul Gandhi has made Guha to admit the greatness and glory of Modi and compelled Guha to conclude that the dynast Rahul Gandhi is no match for the hard-working, honest, dedicated to the cause of sab vikas, Modi.

The message has its own twists and turns as well. Guha and many others; the so called left liberals and those who claimed to have born exclusively to protect the secularism and democracy of India have started to fear that the CAA protest may favour at the end the congress party.

At national level, the Muslims may see only the congress party as an alternative to BJP and hence may vote for congress party. Most of the tukde tukde gangs and the dynastic political forces like DMK, SP, JDS etc., are surviving largely through minority appeasement and if the minority vote shifts to congress, naturally the regional parties may find it hard to win even a single seat. Most of the regional parties and tukde tukde gangs wants only coalition government at the centre, wants instability, corruption, nepotism, sycophancy and development of own family circle not the nation and hence they do not want BJP and Modi.

Now the danger of all those tukede tukede gangs is that congress may take away their minority vote share and that would make them further weak and incapacitated politically. But the CAA protest that they have started by spreading lies and fear mongering that CAA is against Muslims and Indian Muslims are going to lose their right etc., appears to be turning against them.  The possibility of Muslim minority (reasonable proportion) may see congress as a viable option and not the regional parties is quite high. It means the regional parties fought against Modi by spreading, sowing and selling lies and fear which is ultimately going to resurrect the congress party.

Ramachandra Gudha has lots of reasons to get upset because he knew that all his protests and rhetoric, people of India have rejected outrageously and those who likely to heed to him are some minority sections. Today all those minority blocks are likely to move towards the congress and such situation is likely to annul the role of tukde tukde gangs in Indian politics. The shift of minority community towards the congress party has come at the expense of tukde tukde gangs. It means, none of the protests of the opposition parties are going to help them and if at all the protest may offer some benefit that would be for the congress party and not for the regional parties.

Congress party has cleverly reduced the regional parties and the so called left liberals as its marketing agency to do minority appeasement and fear mongering over CAA.

The message of Ramachandra Guha is very clear and loud to all opposition parties. The opposition parties must fight the Congress more than BJP and Modi.

Only when India is freed from congress, the regional parties can sustain their niche and shrinking habitat. Otherwise the un-teachable dynast of the congress party would walk away with the credit at the toil of many opposition parties.

The biggest danger of India is congress party and its stinking dynastic politics. Therefore the regional parties must defeat the congress party and even if in short run, that may not benefit that, still they should accept such defeat. But any cost congress party should not win.

The political formula in India should be BJP versus others excluding the congress party and not BJP versus Congress versus others. As long as congress is there in the scene, the position of others would be third or fourth or even distant 10th. Once the congress party is eliminated from the political framework of India through the democratic process, the regional parties can have their say and only this absolute truth Guha has echoed in Kerala.

People of India and many regional parties must prioritize their politics and must fight congress and defeat and decompose the party first. But instead of what each regional party is supposed to do are engaged in hate Modi campaign, propagating and selling lies and negativity to the minority community and dividing India.

It is the congress, the number one enemy of India and the regional parties and not the BJP is the message Guha has told even to the left ruled state- Kerala.

Why Sabarimala verdict is wrong, Atheist version!

0

Honorable Supreme Court of India, on 28 September 2018, overturned the restriction of entry of women ages 10-50 to the temple, calling it discriminatory and amounting to the untouchability.

Supreme Court held that “Women are not lesser or inferior to men. Patriarchy of religion cannot be permitted to trump over faith” and also observed that exclusion of menstruating women is a violation of Article 17.

But as per those who do not agree with Supreme Court’s order said the Sabarimala ban is not just because of misogyny but the celibate nature of deity.

I will not go into the constitutional provisions or religious arguments. My support for the restriction is purely based on logic. Before I make my arguments, I wish to clarify that, I am not a religious person. I do not believe in God or any superior power controlling human beings. For me, all the decision we made are originated within us.

According to me, religion and rationality can not go together. Rationality is based on logic, facts, but the religion is based on superstitions, faith, and beliefs. Sometimes, both intersect, but claiming particular religion as completely rational is illogical because there are always certain aspects in all religion which can not be explained by logical reasoning.

Now let us come to Sabarimala. There can be two possibilities. First, you are a believer. You believe in Lord Ayappa and all the stories/beliefs attached to him. You believe him to be eternal celibate. In that case, if you are a woman, you would not like to visit the temple, as religion is all about following the beliefs and rituals attached to it. Second, you are not a believer. You don’t believe in Lord Ayappa. You don’t believe in mythology, stories, and rituals attached to him. In that case, you do not need to visit the temple.

Even if you are visiting (for some random reason other than your religiosity), you have to follow all the rituals, rules and regulations ascribed the temple, or you would end up hurting religious beliefs of others which are protected under Article 25. For example, I do not believe in God. But when I visit the temple (if my parents ask me to or during festivals), I do observe all the rules as one devotee should observe.

That is why I opposed Sabarimala Verdict. It is irrational. Women who just want to enter the temple for the sake of women empowerment should focus their struggle on other fundamental issues. There are issues of women’s security, education, health, political participation, etc. Women organizations should really focus on the empowerment of women in a real sense rather than doing stupid protest to enter a temple, whose beliefs are not accepted by them.

The very idea of justice being served

Everybody was silent inside the theatre. Soon Ajay Devgan commanded,

“Galat kya hai yeh jaanne se koi farak nahi padta, galat ko sahi karne se farak padta hai.”

The whole crowd broke into jitters, series of applauds raged across the movie theatre. Singham was the fearless police officer who had decided to wipe off crime from the face of the country. I sat speechless, dumbfounded by the growing “anarchy.”

6th December, 2020, the morning was recollective of the movie scene, where 4 alleged rapists of the Hyderabad veterinarian were killed in the encounter. I woke up to a WhatsApp text, “Did you see the news? Justice served.” Twitter stood divided that morning, some lauded the encounter while others disputed its significance in a rule-of-democracy. To add to the confusion, insensitive media commenced flashing headlines “Swift Justice.” It took me some time to comprehend the fifth entity annihilated in the narrative of Friday morning- Justice.

We cannot associate incompetence to the govt for setting up fast track courts with encounters.

Encounters are not the answer to “Too many laws, too little justice.” Post Nirbhaya, in 2013 India set up new anti-rape Bill to curb the growing sexual brutality in the country. In 2018 Indian Journal of Medical Ethics published a research paper stating, poor utilization of Nirbhaya Funds and poor implementation of the laws failed to restrain sexual violence.

In 2017 Human Rights Watch concluded,

“Indian police not only failed to discharge their official duties to promptly register and investigate complaints but abused their power, threatening women and their families to drop or settle their rape complaints.”

A similar anecdote clings on to the Hyderabad rape case, where the police had failed to act on the charges lodged by the families of the victim. Today they are the unsung heroes.

In 1995 the apex court barred “handcuffs” calling them inhuman, and, ironically, today India’s political sector celebrates the eerie encounter valiantly. This celebration stands evident to the lost trust in Indian law and order and the judicial system. India has 19 judges per 10 lakh people according to law ministry data. From the NCRB data, 1,27,800 rape cases lay pending by the end of 2017. Yet the government makes no effort to employ 40% vacant positions in the Indian judiciary. Seemingly speedy trials that PM Modi had promised 6 years back are still far away.

Indeed, the celebration leaves our blood-lust satiated and completely eradicates any existence of the above insights. Today, this is creating a will and precedence for custodial encounters where criminals/ dissenters are murdered with absolute impunity. In a country where nearly 50% of all MPs have criminal charges, after this encounter, we won’t even know if these 4 accused were guilty of the rape, and if the rapist is still free. Not to forget the Ryan School murder case in 2017, where the bus driver was mistakenly convicted with a confession by the police officials which was only exposed in the CBI probe. But do encounter solve the problem? On average 5 custodial deaths happened in India every day between 1 April 2017 to 28 February 2018. However, 2018 saw a 6% spike in crime rate in India. NHRC has registered 1782 fake encounters until 2017, and some of them were not even convicted.

As India exults I believe we have completely misunderstood the cause of sexual violence.

Rape is not just a sexual endorsement, but violence in terms of power and authority. Indian system has repetitively failed to address the social roots of sexual violence. But is it possible for us to unlearn patriarchy, at the nozzle of the gun? The hydraulic model of rape is knit firmly into the very fabric of our societal structures. Learning how to “not rape” is more important than how to “stay safe from rape.”

The commonsensical outcome is that rape, like other crimes, can most effectively be prevented by deterrence. The reason why we have spent so much energy on evading preventative thinking. And that is why today, the celebrations of such encounters serve as a moral wash but not retribution. The problem at the core still lies unaddressed.
