A piece of honest advice to JEE/NEET aspirants

0

Normally, the exams happen in April, admissions are over by July and the session begins by August. Thus, if you take an entrance exam in September 2020 as declared, the session would start, best by January 2021. That is with around 5 months of delay – that is already loss of a semester. Any further delay- say postponing it to November/December 2020 would mean the session begins around March/April 2021.

The 4 years of Engineering or Medicines are extremely hard, and no scope for change in the syllabus. They cannot show you 70% of how machines or heart works. There is no scope for “reduction”, you have to cover it. Covering 8-9 months of the syllabus in the remaining months running up to the end of 4 year period – is extremely “stressful”, and “frustrating”.  Even if the colleges extend the academic session by 6 months – the jobs market would become more competitive as more students who would be giving April 2021 exams would be entering the market – on equal footing. Their academic year cannot be delayed to accommodate you. The sessions if extended would make it job market more competitive as more students giving April 2021 exams would be there.

Leaving any syllabus – so that the degree is awarded on time – would make companies ignore you, and they would wait out. A 4-year education is also compulsory without compromise on syllabus for any future admissions to MIT, Harvard, and similar institutions. Appearing next year means you would have double the competition.

We know a lot about the virus today, and it cannot be contracted if we follow discipline – wearing masks and practicing social distancing. The discipline around 3-4 days of giving exams would go a long way to save you the “enormous” stress of covering 4 years syllabus in 3 years. If you have to cover in 3 years, it can make you frustrated, angry, .. and god forbids even suicidal.

Follow precautions, show strength. Ask the government to have good transportation and lodging facilities. Already the number of centers have been increased.  Suggest the Government to enforce lockdown for 2 days before and 2 days after the exams. Perhaps an exam on Sunday which allows Friday to Monday of lockdown. We would gladly stay in our homes – even if our children are not supposed to appear for exams this year – as your students are our future – and along with your parents, we the rest of Indians to have a collective responsibility.

A very nice piece of article written by IIT Delhi director – https://www.timesnownews.com/education/article/delaying-jee-neet-2020-any-further-would-lead-to-zero-academic-year-for-lakhs-of-students-iit-delhi-director/643111. Everyone is in support of you. Profit is secondary in everybody’s mind – your academic concern and future is of topmost priority.

Precaution is necessary. No one wants you to contract the virus. We have to make a choice here. In my honest opinion take the exam, and save yourself from the stress of catching up and covering the syllabus. Let me know your thoughts – if I have missed anything, I would learn from you too.

Best of Luck.

JEE-NEET issue now critical: PM Modi must step up

0

JEE Main exam, the entrance exam for undergraduate admissions in engineering colleges is scheduled from 1st-6th september while NEET exam for admissions in MBBS is scheduled on 13th September. Its a high time that PM Modi must now get involved in this.

When anyone says that COVID situation is not serious, he can’t be serious! Even government can’t deny it, which imposed a nationwide lockdown of about 2months, even if that lockdown was to buy some time to ramp up health infrastructure. Neither life can be stopped, neither can be academics, so exams are necessary too. But the topic of JEE-NEET is serious on many fronts, especially after the involvement of left and no-connection-with-India-Greta.

No one can give a cent percent surety that children and parents about 25-30 lakhs which are going to be mobilized in first two weeks of September will not face any transportation or health difficulties. Many children and parents have some health issues, and centres of these exams are not available in every city or district of India. Anyone who has given these examinations after 12th know that about 1000 people can be seen at every exam centres, this number is usually double of applicants because, kids are still about 17-18 years and parents come to drop them. Any talk of social distancing is just ridiculous here. Students of small towns and villages have to travel hundreds of km to reach centres in big cities. So, students really have genuine concerns.

Now, the critical part of situation is this issue is hijacked by left and anti-India elements. Government usually don’t give an ear to them, because they generally don’t speak in the interest of masses, but this time the case is different, here the issue is genuine. Government better knows that the official tally of infected and deceased of COVID is much less than actual numbers.

PM Modi must bow down in the interest of nation, learning from anti-CAA protests where a non-issue was taken by anti-India elements to break India, he should be well aware that this time many concerns are genuine, and anti-India elements need just some reason to start their breaking India operations.

THIS DOESN”T MEAN THAT HE SHOULD POSTPONE INDEFINITELY OR CANCEL EXAMINATIONS.

Only he needs a week or 10 days to change the method of examination. Since, India has a solid IT infrastructure and these exams are online based, he needs to do a simple thing. He can give options to candidates to give examination from their home on their PCs, laptops or smartphones. This can reduce the applicants going to exam centres by half, hence there will be less crowd at exam centres, moreover due to internet availability, many students of small towns can too give exams sitting in their homes.

There will be points against this, like every student doesn’t have internet connectivity or smartphones or laptops, so yes they will have option of going to exam centres and giving exam in traditional way. Here we are just reducing number of people at exam centers and providing alternate convenient solutions. Some may raise doubts that this may lead to unfair practices adopted by candidates to give exams, but paper can be set in such a way that even is somebody is helping students, they don’t finish whole exam in 3hrs. Since NTA would already have the necessary infrastructure and many exams are already being conducted in this manner, this shouldn’t be a much problem.

Socioeconomic paradox of Indian Muslim community and the people responsible for it

Muslim rulers ruled India for around eight centuries before British arrived. Post independence, the members of the Muslim community served at some of the most coveted positions in India, be it the President, the Vice-President, the Chief Justice, the Chief Election Commissioner, the Education Minister, you name it and you will find it. Not just once, but frequently; three out of the twelve presidents in India have been Muslims; five education ministers that constitute a total of twenty one years in just first three decades post independence were Muslims; the only person in India that holds the honor of serving the three offices i.e. the President of India, the Vice-President of India and the Chief Justice of India was a Muslim. It is not only limited to politics, the entertainment industry has an overwhelming presence of the Muslim community in India. Some of the most popular celebrities, be it actors, directors, musicians or sports personalities are Muslims. Last but not the least, the Wakf board that exists solely on donations and charities made by the community, was already the third largest land holder in the country after Indian Defence and Indian Railways, can generate a minimum return of 10 per cent that’s about Rs. 12,000 crores per annum and an average return of 20 per cent per annum.

And yet, the community is socially and economically backward, stands besides or even behind the most backward communities in India.

Why? How is this paradox even possible?

If I were to ask you a question, who has done the most damage to the Muslim community as a whole in India, what would your answer be?

You might very well be tempted to name of a few politicians, parties or organizations. With the way the political discourse in India is, I won’t be surprised if a section of society thinks this way. This isn’t a hypothetical question, especially when India is pretty soon going to be the country with the largest Muslim population across the world. India, with its 201 million (2018 estimates) is already the second largest Muslim population after Indonesia, Pakistan being third with 197 million and Bangladesh fourth with 164 million. So, it is pivotal that this large section of India knows exactly who is responsible for their woes.

Let me ask you another question, which might help find the answer to the first question. How did Uniform Civil Code turn political and become an issue that is perceived as anti-Muslim? Why does it not affect other religions in India?

Before the year 1829, all the religions in India had their own sets of laws, rules and regulations but by 1956, the entire Hindu religion was codified but not Islam. Why?

As a matter of fact, a majority of civil laws in the Hindu society came even before the independence i.e. during the British Raj. Why? How? One might ask why did the British try to reform Hindu Society but did not interfere with Islamic Laws?

Simply because they were here to rule and not reform. They would not do anything that would hamper their ability to rule. If people from a particular society pushed for something, they did not oppose it till it threatened them. The educated, learned class within the Hindu community came forward and pushed for social reforms. It was Raja Ram Mohan Roy who came forward and pushed for the law banning Sati Pratha and Female infanticide in the year 1829. It was the first ever civil law interfering with the religious system. Lord William Bantec from the British administration supported him. Similarly, it was Ishwar Chandra Vidya Sagar, who brought Cast Disability Abolition Act in 1850 and Hindu Widow Remarriage Act in 1856. This time it was Lord Dalhaousi from the British administration who supported him. There are many more where people from within the Hindu society pushed for the social reforms for example hindu women property rights act or 1874, age of consent act of 1891 so on and so forth.

But no one ever came forward from the Muslim Community for the similar social reforms. To the misfortune of the Muslim community in India, once the Chacha of vote bank politics and the Bapu or appeasement politics returned to India in 1912 and 1915 respectively, the only thing that was not supposed to happen, happened – some people from the Muslim community who formed Muslim League were able to get Muslim Personal Law (Shariat Act) of 1937 legalized. Although, today there are a few intellectuals who want to give all the credit to selected few, but the history tells a different story.

August 15, 1947 the day we know as independence day was actually a day of power transfer. The power transferred from the British Crown to Indian National Congress. INC followed the footsteps of the British. If the party was interested in the progress of the country, it would have pushed for uniform civil code rigorously and not just sideline it by putting a one liner in the constitution of India “The State shall endeavor to secure for citizens a uniform civil code throughout the territory of India” – Article 44 of Indian Constitution. If it was genuinely interested in the progress of the country, it would have discontinued caste based census right away. The British did it to divide and rule, why did INC keep it? Wearing skull caps and throwing Iftar parties don’t fix Muslim issues. Exactly like wearing a Janaeu, reciting Hanuman Chalisa or visiting a temples don’t fix any Hindu issues. If they did, we would not have been staring at these issues today. Would we?

Coming back to the original question and not digressing from it. It does not matter who the ruler is, if the educated, privileged class from any caste, community or religions speaks up for the betterment of the society, only then the society progresses otherwise it stagnates and eventually dies.

It has been, it is and it will always be the elite, educated and privileged class within the Muslim community that has done and will do the most damage to the community as a whole, by not speaking up for the truth and justice.

Moreover, you don’t have to go that far in the history to confirm this hypothesis. Just recently, I saw a tweet and later saw a video drawing parallels between Hagia Sophia and Babri Masjid. You must have also seen something like the ones below.

In one line, the gist is that the Mosque remains a mosque always, it can not be demolished or made into something else and Hagia Sophia is a living example of this.

Is it true?

No! Not at all!

I was a little surprised when they started quoting the example of Hagia Sophia. In fact the reality is that Hagia Sophia is the biggest living example that Mosques are not an integral part of Islam and can very well be demolished or used for other purposes even for making money.

Hagia Sophia remained a church for eleven centuries, a mosque for five centuries and a museum for eight decades. It was not a non-Muslim who converted it to a museum, it was the first Turkish President and founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who transformed the mosque into a museum. I write less as compared to other bloggers, but I write truth and after extensive research. Two years ago, way before the supreme court judgement, I wrote an article “Ayodhya Dispute: An unresolved symbolical confrontation” to prove the very same point. The excerpt from the article:

The city of Istanbul, which was once the Ottoman Empire,  the land of the Caliph, the Caliphate; converted a Mosque Hagia Sophia into a Museum for monetary gains (hoping the touristic value of Istanbul to double). The then minister said, “Those who perform their prayers in Hagia Sophia can easily perform their religious duties in many other big or small mosques nearby.” During those times, Hagia Sophia was not the only mosque that was closed to prayers. Hundreds of mosques were closed or used for other purposes, demolished, or their lands were sold. Moreover, to my surprise RamJanm Bhumi in Ayodhya has more in common with Hagia Sofia. It turns out that Hagia Sofia was a grand Church before the Ottoman Empire. As per the Islamic law, all places of worship taken by war are the property of the ruler. Additionally, the Ottomans converted the biggest place of worship in the city into a mosque, when they conquer a city, as it was a religious duty to perform Friday worship.”

Is the Islam practiced in India different then the Islam practiced in the rest of the world and especially the one followed in the land of the Caliph, the Caliphate? I don’t think so. If not then why are the rules different?

If I know about this fact, the educated and privileged in the muslim community also knows about it. Historians like Romila Thapar and Irfan Habib, who openly discarded the existence of Ram Mandir knew about the history. If only they had spoken the truth, it would have been resolved decades ago, without even becoming a court case. But they didn’t. Quite ironically, Aamir Khan who calls himself a social activist, who is sitting in the heart of the former Ottoman empire as I write this article, does not dare to tweet that some people for their vested interests are misleading the people of his community. And why single him out, there is an army of social activists who have an eternity to debate on “the idea of India” but no time or courage to call out an incorrect, misleading tweet. It is not a choice for the privileged, the educated and the elite to speak up in favor of the truth and justice, it is their duty. If they don’t no one else can, the underprivileged neither has the means nor the strength.

Silence is worse; all truths that are kept silent become poisonous.

Time for nepotism is over

0

The world has changed since 14th of June. It was the day when Sushant was murdered. A young, bright, talented, intelligent being who faced all the occulsion and neglect with an innocent sweet smile. Why and who murdered him is still unknown. Now since CBI has taken over the mystery will soon be unravelled. His death left us awestruck and disturbed. It came to the realisation soon that the nepotism he faced was not only in the field of politics, buisness even academia but also so much more prevalent in Bollywood. The people who killed him must have thought that his death too will soon be burried with the the absolute truth and people will buy the depression theory. They tried hard to keep it covered. So much so that even the FIR was not lodged in Mumbai. However, this time its not going to happen anytime soon.

Sushant’s demise all the more left us to realise how fool we had been all this while. We have danced to the tunes of ‘Munni badnaam hui’ and ‘Sheila ki jawani’, songs filled with such cocky lyircs. We have watched their movies and made them stars. Many of us literally worshiped them. And what for? Who made them stars? Us. And today we are dumfounded when Kareena Kapoor Khan says ‘mat jao na humari movies dekhne’. We looked up to these “stars” and made us our role models. All my childhood I foolishly enjoyed their movies. Now their sight on television disgusts me into thinking what kind of hipocricy exists in this world! Yes we have been stupid.  We have ignored the real, new talents and genuine people and given the limelight to the undeserving. If Karan Johar bred Nepotism, we as an audience gave wings to it. We gave them the platform to infuence our lives.

But now. Never again I am watching their movies. I don’t want to spend my hard on money on those fake faces smeared with mascara and foundations speaking venom against my country. They are the big wigs and influncial people with strong political bonds. I have heard that Maharashtra Government is also involved. People like Mahesh Bhatt who give clean movies to their daughter Alia Bhatt but keep cheap roles for other actresses. She became ambassodor of brands  like ‘Garnier’. Kareena Kappor Khan who endorses white and fair skin and then posts on ‘Black lives matter’. She is the wife of self-proclaimed historian Saif Ali Khan who found no other Muslim name for his son other than ‘Taimur’ an invader who killed Hindus and looted temples, and orderd forceful conversion on Indians. Salman Khan who owns an expensive ‘Being Human’ brand and then funds in God knows what kind of dubious activities. ShahRukh Khan who practically advertises for Dubai and calls Indians intolerant, the very people who gave him the stardom. Amir Khan who have friendly ties with those countries and people who opposes the very idea of a unified India. Mahesh Bhatt and Amir Khan have heard to be having contacts with communal riots instigator Zakir Naik. Naik got converted and became communal but its hilarious that he wont change his Hindu surname. These proprietors of glamour industry have managed to get every space in the grid of television industry. This has to stop now.

On one hand we had Sushant, an extremely radiant and positive being who studied about stars and had dreams we couldn’t have even imagined of and on the other hand we have lipsticks and caky faces who flashes pure ignorance.  Sushant who rejected a 15 crore fairness cream advertisement. Sushant who sponsered women entrepreneurship and sent kids to NASA. We need more people like Sushant in this world. A sensitive being who amazes with idea of how the universe works. We need more peope who want to make Earth a better place. Why are we so used to dumb lyics of songs and badly scripted productions with ridiculous story line? Why they no longer produce sensible movies? There is a movie I saw recently. Vidyut jamwal’s ‘Junglee’. It was such an insightful movie. Its high time creators should start making content on themes related to environment, inspiration, art, creativity, constructive societies, patriotism, animal welfare, etc Why don’t such movies make a hit? Why can’t we support talented people?

But I guess just like Bollywood our country was also suffering. The way they killed Gulshan Kumar and made Bollywood into a mafia industry, similarly they enjoyed every other unoppossed dictatorship after Indra Gandhi. If  only for the leadership we have under Modiji wasn’t there even actors like Kangana wouldn’t have been able to come to the platforms to speak about the bigotry. Credit also goes to JIO internet who made it possible for the majority of Indians to utilise the power of social media. Its time for new talents to spurt now, and it will.

This movement should not fade away after lockdown. It should in fact become stronger by day. At all levels. Bollywood, politics or academics. It should be unstoppable. I firmly believe that only deserving people should get the platforms. We are a huge democracy and there should be no place for appeasements and favourism. ONLY  anyone who deserves should get the opportunity. No conditions apply.  Its time for agendas to stop. The audience has the power to appreciate and reject. Lets exercise our position. Lets support and create opportunities for other people. Lets also completely boycott fake secularism and movie mafia and busts propaganda against our country and culture. Lets give in to knowledge and eternal truth.

How the left wing is maligning the image of Maharani Gayatri Devi

0

India i.e. Bharat is synonymous with beauty since ancient times. It can be seen from the most beautiful sculptures that were sculpted even before the Chinese have started to drink tea. Some sculptures have so complex and intricate details that even modern sculptors with machinery are in awe of them wondering how to match even one-tenth of it. Even in modern times India is a country with highest number of Beauty pageant winners. In India most of the queens were considered as gorgeous and beautiful, but a queen hailing from Jaipur is considered as the most beautiful person to ever born on earth and her name is MAHARANI GAYATRI DEVI. Her beauty was not just in terms of looks but also in class, elegance, courage, service and especially charity activities

She was born on 23 May 1919 in the Royal family of Jaipur. Since childhood she was more mature than her age. While children at the age of 12 years fear at the onset of barking dog, she killed a leopard by hunting in a forest. She was brilliant in academics and can speak many languages like Hindi, French with ease. She was adored as Goddess by the people of Jaipur. She was married to Maharaja Sawai Man Singh 2 as his third wife but unfortunately, he died early at the age of 57. She did many charitable activities throughout her life and even wrote letters to other kingdoms and government for various developmental activities. She was even offered to contest as Member of Parliament by Congress government, but she refused knowing the socialistic and secular policies of Jawaharlal Nehru. But she joined in Swatantra party formed by C Rajagopalachari and won two terms. She won by a majority of 1,75,000 and was entered in Guinness Book of Records. She continued in the party until its existence. During emergency she was even arrested for speaking truth. Being a queen, she could have spent her time by enjoying things, but she was concerned with the welfare of people.

She was an avid car fanatic and enjoys leisure time in riding horses. She wore saree and trousers with same elegance and was a fashion icon during her time. She interacted directly with the people of her kingdom. Her natural beauty cannot match with plastic surgery, make-up sprayed so called beautiful actresses. She was an excellent polo player. She was an absolute delight to look at.

Recently I came across a book called The House of Jaipur, the inside story of most glamorous royal family written by John Zubrzycki on juggernaut.in, that publishes free digital books irrespective of their content. Before discussing about the book, we should know few things about the author. He wrote very few books and one of the books was praised by Shashi Tharoor. He wrote a book called The Last Nizam falsely praising them. In my view the ‘The House of Jaipur’ written by him was given inputs by some group of communist liberals.

Even before going to Chapter 1, it criticises Rajput kings as womanisers, drinkers and cowards. The book slowly maligns the image of Rajput kings among the youngsters. After distorting the history through textbooks during the period of Congress they are now using the means of Free digital books written by fake foreign authors. Next, they will use kindle books and international publishers to sell their fake stories. In one instance it shows that Rajput king had overnight liquor parties with women. The ritual was actually more common among Mughal kings and I request the author to write the inside story of any Mughal king.

The book served as a base for fake news websites of India like Wire and The Print. All Indians know about the authenticity of those websites. It had articles saying British opposed the marriage of the king to non-aryan woman like Gayatri Devi. Again, Non-Aryan absolute fake theory was created by liberals and why would British oppose Non-Aryan woman. In another article caste angle was added to her life. I have read only the preview of the book, and could not continue with such factual lies written.

Her official memoir, A Princess Remembers was written after being released from jail along with a lady called Santha Rama Rau should be read by all. But in this book although some things like her fighting legal issues against her family members and many negative things were written about Rajput royal families in general. Every Hindu royal family does service activities like school, hospital and many more, but have you ever heard of any Muslim king family doing service or charitable activities.

In Wikipedia lot of information on her social service was deleted and it was written under Death that she suffered from Gastric trouble while she was in jail and continued till her old age. In reality she died of lung failure.

Instead of her courage, style, elegance and her numerous charities works they were forcing young readers to remember her gastric trouble whenever we think of her. People should read her authentic stories instead of character shaming books. My problem is that people who were neither left wing nor right wing were their major targets.

She was a great personality with elegant beauty and soft heart to do service. Her photographs are sold near tourist places in Rajasthan, but most of the buyers are foreigners not Indians. She was an inspiring personality whose legacy will be remembered forever and her Birthday should be celebrated on a large scale in India.

A requiem for the last “King” and the first war for “Freedom”

Bahadur Shah Zafar in his last days in Rangoon

Shunning all religious and imperial biases that for so long had stopped the British Historians from recognizing the Revolt of 1857 as anything more than a mutiny, William Dalrymple was able to take an objective and respectful look at what the revolt of 1857 against the British occupation of India was about.

I was happy to note that Dalrymple was brave and informed enough to understand that for a large chunk of the soldiers and citizens who were revolting, it was their first war for independence. Embittered by forced Christian conversions, inhuman taxation, and ruthless domination, there was also a sizeable number of people who believed that they could rout the British and take over the control of Delhi and then entire India. I was also amazed at the amount of respect that Dalrymple shows to this very notion of the revolutionaries and goes on to justify it with the chain of events and the sheer strength of numbers of the revolting soldiers and a host of others who joined the war. He understands and tries to articulate effectively why the citizen believed that they could actually win freedom through the strength of arms and that all they needed was a beacon at the summit of their revolution. They believed that it had to be the last Mughal Emperor, Bahadur Shah Jafar.

If it was not for Dalrymple’s book, I would never know that there was something known as the “Mutiny Papers” that consisted of British government’s notes and orders, Bahadur Shah Jafar’s court orders and minutes, documentation and correspondences during the mutiny in Delhi, pictures, spy notes, vivid accounts of the atrocities meted out by the British and also the information about the looting, pillaging and murder of British women and children by the Indian sepoys. All this and more exists in our country today and is stored in the National Achieves of India. Dalrymple anchors his work on the information available in these papers and a plethora of other sources (Indian, Pakistani, British) which results in his work turning out rational and level-headed and to a great extent authentic.

Mirza Jawan Bakht and Mirza Shah Abbas who joined the king in exile

As the title suggests, the book is primarily about the last 5 years of Bahadur Shah Zafar’s life. The story starts on the day of Mirza Jawan Bakht’s (Zafar’s son and his heir apparent who was exiled with him to Rangoon) marriage and ends with Zafar’s death in exile in Rangoon. While Zafar is an integral part of the story, Dalrymple also spends considerable time on the British living in Delhi who were involved in the events of the revolution, the different court officials of Zafar, his sons and their politics, his wives and concubines, his poets like Zauq and Ghalib and also the men of the imperial army who were involved in the mutiny. However, one should note that the film is not a treatise about the complete revolt but only narrates the events within the city of Delhi in great detail. It chooses to move out of Delhi on a few occasions to trace a particular character or the genesis of his rage but then invariably turns back to Delhi only to document what part that particular character played in the revolt, the siege of Delhi by British or the turning of the city into a “city of the dead”.

The book also vividly records the conducts of the revolutionaries within the Delhi walls after they had taken the city in May 1857. The fact that the revolutionaries consisted of upper-caste Hindus, Shia, and Sunni Muslims, Wahabis, etc only added to the politics and uneasy dynamics of the army within the city and in the end, proved to be one of the most important reasons for the failure of the revolt in addition to a serious lack of food and supplies and effective leadership. The book shows how the British were always on the back foot during the war and had to endure insufferable torture and hardship during their days outside the city of Delhi which further fueled their rage against the revolutionaries. The writing successfully deciphers and puts forth the reasons that made the British vicious in their pursuit of retribution on the men who they believed not only killed innocent British but also mass raped their women and didn’t even spare their children.

the author, William Dalrymple

The book is characterized by some very well drawn up characters about whom there must have been a lot of information that was used to paint an absorbing picture. Ghalib is often used as one of the most important narrators to describe the sorry state of the city of Delhi after the British took over the city. He is also used to convey the dilapidation of state of the culture and heritage of the town that was all but destroyed after the siege. In addition, he is also instrumental in singling out the atrocities that the Muslims had to endure post the occupation by the British as the Muslims were now considered sub-human in British eyes for their part in the revolution. Theo Metcalf and his mindless murdering were used to describe the British mindset post the occupation of Delhi. He starts off as an unruly son to his father and gradually metamorphs into a person who meant death for the revolutionaries after their defeat. His barbarism is such that after a while even the British didn’t want anything to do with him and ensured that he never held any office that gave him the power of life and death.

Subedar Bakht Khan and Gauri Shankar Sukul are shown as polar opposites in the rebel army. While Bhakt Khan was the military head of the army and up to a great extent routed the British with his strategy and military ingenuity. He is gradually shown losing his ground because of his religious inclination and distance from the Hindu soldiers who were a majority in the army. Gauri Shankar Sukul, on the other hand, is portrayed as a black sheep who not only collaborates with the British but also tries to sabotage the rebellion by incapacitating Bakht Khan with his false accusation of the man colluding with the British. The book also tells us the story of the Tytlers (Robert and Harriet) who give testimony of how they had to escape the city in May 1857 and then re-entered a ghost town in September 1857. Harriet and Robert were keen photographers and Harriet’s notes of the period were a source of invaluable insight into how the British looked at the uprising and the days that followed.

prime minister Narendra Modi paying tribute at the shrine of Bahadur Shah Zafar in Rangoon

The Last Mughal is one of the most exhaustive and well-written accounts of not only the end of one of the greatest dynasties of the country but also of one of the most brutal and spirited war for independence that the British ever had to face. Its accuracy and objectivity will immediately strike a chord with most of the readers and will give them a version of the events that are well balanced and is not decisive or divisive. Dalrymple’s manner of approaching the subject leaves room for different readers to have their own interpretation of the book and that is one of its greatest qualities. It would be wrong to complain about its lack of coverage of the revolution outside Delhi as the book aims to put to paper the end of the Mughal Dynasty and its last emperor only and that it achieves effectively.

Media ethics in journalism

0

The impact of media on us has been enormous, with no doubt and reasoning being given. Trials undertaken by media have become very effective and dominant. It is well aware that it was due to the media which created public unrest in the Jessica Lal murder case. Also, the further delay in the judgment of Kasab was hampered due to discussions, polls, and reactions of people that were being passed on to the government directly through the media. The entire country became frustrated when they got to know about the money that was spent to provide ‘security’ to a person who was convicted in mercilessly shooting and killing innocent people. The most important incident that needs to be mentioned in is the case of the gang rape of a student (better known as Nirbhaya) in New Delhi in December 2012. Contradictory to many other rape cases that are pending in the courts for years, due to the pressure from the media the police force, ministries and judiciary were urged to give special importance to this case.

WHY UNETHICAL?

Now major question or doubt is whether such trials, run by media houses without any permission, are hampering the legal system or is a violation of media ethics. The fair side behind such trials by the public is that wherever or whenever the system fails to ensure justice to the victim, the mass shall come forward to adjudicate the issue by either impel the judiciary to punish the culprit by contriving new ways of governance, laws, and practice. However, the darker side, is that, if we comment on the judgment or the proceedings of the case, we will be liable for contempt of court and defamation. It will be an unethical practice and to carry out such trials by media because then the judge’s credibility will be at stake. The country doesn’t permit us to give opinions or remarks on a judgment. Making Remark or comment on a judgment might result in contempt of court.

Media power and its influence are realized globally for years now. Many tried to control its regulation by limiting its right to criticize, broadcast, and publish freely by trying to manipulate and use them as a tool of spreading their propaganda. This holds very true in a country like India. But The Constitution of India is there to safeguard the fundamental right to freedom of speech and expression of all the media houses through self-regulation and advocacy. Universal Declaration of Human Rights states- “Everyone has the freedom of opinion and expressions, this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and idea through any media and regardless of frontiers[1].

Ethical Journalism

Media ethics is a division of ethics that includes specific ethical standards that media should follow, be it, any form of media. Media ethics promotes values such as a universal respect for life and the rule of law and legality[2]. The main objective of Journalism is to serve people by collecting true information on matters concerning public interest. Free media should be there to acts as a watchdog to the government[3] and is also a channel to connect people with its government. The media has a great influence on the minds of the people and can help in shaping their decisions. The media is not just a fourth estate but has also had an influential impact on the society that the media on no ground, can lose sight of its duties and obligations towards the people. So, they are obligated to follow the ethical guidelines in the collection and distribution of information by double-checking the authenticity of the news.

Principles of Ethical Journalism

The principles of ethical journalism should provide a strong foundation for the movement of information. Responsible journalism is providing correct information only after thoroughly checking the facts learned and to present them without any false or twisted expression. Accurate information helps the public to understand the issues clearly so that they would be able to form opinions and choices of their own. There are five core principles of journalism.

Accuracy: It involves the collection of all the relevant facts and information media have and verifying them using more than one source. It also means giving equal representation to all of the sides involved so that it helps in deciding the authenticity and credibility of news.

Accountability: A sign of professionalism and responsible journalism is the ability to hold ourselves accountable.

Objectivity: It means to depend on norms such as doing a multiple source check for confirmation of facts and try to present all relevant and important aspects of a story.

Truth and fairness: This is known as a core principle for ethical journalism. Journalists should forever maintain truth and fairness in gathering news, reporting, and interpreting information.

Independence: Journalists should have independent voices and should not act on behalf of any special interests.

Ethical Neglect In Responsible Journalism

The primary function of media is to gather, convey, and comment on the information to create the administration of justice. This includes as a right also for cases of before, during, and after trial, without violating the presumption of innocence[4]. Today, the issue that created a problem with journalism ranges from paid news to news and show businesses. This shows a trend that is increasing towards the commercialization of journalism which has diverted their attention to increase in viewership. This often affects the collection of several issues that are of equal importance but are often ignored due to lack of attention.

Paid News:

The problem of ‘paid news’ goes way beyond the corruption of journalists and media houses. It is spoiling the democratic system in India. News is always meant to be fair and unbiased from all forms and this is what makes them different from the advertisements. However, this difference gets vanished in cases of ‘paid news’. In India, paid news came into notice during the 2009 General elections where reports suggested various under-table transactions happened between the media and political parties. To resolve the problem, the Press Council of India formulated a sub-committee to look at the issue and based on their recommendations appointed a drafting committee. The committee prepared a report and denied paid news as, “Any news or analysis appearing in any media (Print and Electronic) for a price in kind or cash as consideration.” This violates the conduct of the election and affects the objective of voters towards electing the right candidates. On the other side, media houses earn corrupted money which is exclusive of the Income-tax rules and Companies act.

Trial by Media:

Trial by media is another example of ethical neglect in journalism which has increased the concern of the judiciary. In several cases, media gives wide coverage unaccompanied with any verifiable facts of the story that already influence the views and opinions of people before the judicial trial even begins. The sensational presentation of sensitive events is a talent of media that they have self-assumed as the role of a ‘Public Court’. An example is from the 2008 Arushi Talwar murder case where the Apex Court has criticized media houses for assuming the role of an investigating authority and spoiling the image of the deceased and accused. This unwanted trial by media only hinders the right to a fair trial of accused and needs to be strictly regulated by the PCI. Media houses should never overstep their ethical boundaries and should never try to interrupt the functioning of the judicial system.

National Security:

The Constitution of India safeguards the freedom of media under the fundamental right of speech and expressions; however, it also restricts that freedom under Article 19(2) as reasonable restrictions. National security is one such restriction under the provision and acts as a ground of restricting the broadcast or publishing of any sensitive information concerning the security of the country. The coverage of the 26/11 terrorist attack on Mumbai in 2008 is one of the instances about the media’s heartless attitude. Covering the attack live for 2-3 days, the media disclosed the actions and moves taken by police and armed forces in combating the terrorists which resulted in the transfer of India’s security plan so terrorists located in Pakistan who instructed their subordinates participating in the attack and ultimately leading to loss of life for policemen and armed personnel[5]. This is surely an incident where insensitive journalism endangered national security. Also, The news reports about communal conflicts are sometimes presented in such a manner that it incites the violence and worsens the conflict.

Conclusion:

The implementation of journalistic standards helps in building public confidence and reliability. The absence of strict directions makes it difficult to choose the right path. Hence, there is a need for laying down directions for media functioning ethically and responsibly. The Press Council is required to make strict moral and ethical code of conduct for the journalist to be followed while expressing their freedom of speech and expression to deliver the unbiased truth with accuracy and in an impartial manner. This would help in lessening the preconceptions opinion and will make a way for everyone to make their views and opinions without getting influenced in the wrong direction.

Why Rahul Gandhi is not capable to lead India

0

Every five years, the biggest democracy of the world, India, undergoes a process of electing a party that will govern it for the new term. Nation-wide elections, mostly involving two biggest political parties, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) and National Democratic Alliance (NDA), fight the war of ideologies using allegations, blunders, achievements, and failures of one other. Heated debates and unprecedented arguments among the supporters of parties on news channels, workplaces, and social gatherings becomes an inevitable course. Literally, the dance of democracy is on full display.

Comparing to other parties, Indian National Congress is a century-old political party formed to accelerate the nationwide movement of independence from British invaders. Prominent people from all walks of life were part of it. Under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, Indian National Congress in a way represented the whole India on political forefront. It was a beacon of hope, strength, unity, and all the other virtues, an ideal political party should consist of. It is a well-known fact that in addition to the efforts of INC, martyrdom of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Veer Savarkar, Mangal Pandey, Rani Lakshmibai, and several known or unknown was responsible to snatch our land back from Britishers.

However, an ascension of Indira Gandhi as the Prime Minister rooted the foundation of dynastic politics in this age-old party. The emergency of 1975 and the massacre of Sikhs following her assassination uncovered the dishonest and vile facade of the goody-goody Indian National Congress. The rise in the corruption scandals, an increase in terrorist attacks, and choosing corrupt leaders like Lalu Prasad Yadav in ministry during Congress rule sealed the downfall of this party. An Indian common man became fed up with their fake promises and was sure that Indian National Congress, now United Progressive Alliance, would stoop low to any level to be in power.

Without any previous political experience, Rahul Gandhi became a de facto head honcho of UPA when he entered politics in 2004. For a decade of rule ending in 2014, he didn’t accept a single position in the ministry to get himself familiarized in Indian politics. Maybe, being raised with a silver spoon might have established a false dogma in his mind that he was born to be posted at the highest position. Rahul’s inability to contemplate issues of modern India, failure to answer most basic questions and absence of a firm solution to any existing problems gradually made him an undesirable politician.

The staged dramas like eating a meal in the shack of poor family, tearing of ordinance passed by his government, illusory promises of debt waivers, and unreal free housing schemes had turned Rahul Gandhi into nothing but a farcical leader meant only to entertain people. He became an example of a failed leader who depends on fabricated images and false news to take forward his party on the political plethora.

Nowadays, the common population is highly active on social media. A political party must be very sure before putting anything on the public platform. Lies get busted in seconds. Parties like RJD, SP, and BSP with exorbitant corruption cases are wiped off from power. Yet the prominent leaders of UPA along with the party supremo are busy sharing made-up videos and photos without proper verification.

Rahul Gandhi constantly questioned the brave efforts of armed forces in Balakot, Pulwama, and Galwan Valley forgetting that when UPA was on center, weapon modernization bills were never passed citing the reason for scarce economic conditions. The warnings of intelligence agencies fell into deaf ears during the same period, as confirmed by multiple sources, resulting in several serial bomb blasts. While the Bofors scandal was still fresh in the mind of the people, UPA never tried to take the armed forces to the next level due to their possible greed of making commissions through backdoor. They forgot that a common man might tolerate a corrupt government up to a certain extent but an injustice to a soldier risking his life at the borders for him because of petty politics is of course unbearable. In the last seven decades, hardly anything showcased progress during UPA rule, except for bank accounts of its top politicians.

Addition of separatists like Salman Nizami and appointment of Gujarat’s most hated politician, Hardik Patel, abetted in losing Gandhi family’s credibility in the eyes of the general public. Selecting candidates following suggestions from Lutyens media whose own knowledge on the plight of ordinary citizens is exiguous, turned disastrous for Rahul’s party.

The silence of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra on the Bengaluru riots exposed them to a much greater extent. UPA, under Rahul’s leadership, had become synonymous to a party whose only agenda is to appease a selective section of the society. Without stating obvious facts and digestible reasons, Rahul Gandhi and his party irrationally opposed all the decisions made by the current government.

During once in a century Covid19 pandemic, instead of standing shoulder to shoulder with the government on power, Rahul and Priyanka were busy in their hate politics at the risk of people’s lives. Rather than helping citizens with necessary things, UPA leadership occupied themselves in finding faults of the prime minister from their sophisticated safe havens. It was not a surprise when their plan of transportation of laborers from Rajasthan to UP turned out just another gimmick.

Swapping of the topmost post of UPA within the Gandhi family revealed the dynastic leadership games played by the regimes that existed in India during Mughal rule. Rusticating the leaders with a progressive mentality, UPA is still scratching their age-old issue of poverty without devising any staunch plan to eradicate it. Ironically, Gandhi family’s undeclared wealth has grown four-fold in the seven decades of public service including approximately $2 billion net worth of Robert Vadra whose business grew exponentially after his marriage with Priyanka.

Rahul Gandhi while accusing BJP of buying MLAs forgets the trade he carried out with Shiv Sena by appointing Uddhav Thackeray as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Recently surfaced photos of an alleged shady deal of Gandhi family with Chinese premier Xi Jinping hardly left any room to Indian population to trust them. The fake propaganda of Hindu terrorism concocted by Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Digvijay Singh, and other stalwarts of UPA turned out to be a huge dent on the party’s hopeful future.

People have witnessed robust India on the world platform under an exemplary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Isolation of Pakistan in the global community, determined counterattacks on Chinese intrusion, campaigns to encourage local industries, and fulfillment of promises by NDA has left hardly any chance for Rahul Gandhi to shine in politics. Indian public strongly felt the weakening of Pakistan under the current government, which was an unimaginable feat during UPA’s rule. Their denial of actions against terrorism induced by ISI turned a meager opponent like Pakistan a huge dragon. Return of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthman in 60 hours is proof of solid Indian dominance over the Asian peninsula.

From bogus promises to forgive the debt of farmers to the tearing of an ordinance passed by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi never cared to actively participate in analyzing and fulfilling the requirements of the Indian public. It is time that someone experienced from his party teaches him that politics is not just about power and money. It is also a chance to do a real public service. Fake propaganda ran through corrupt journalists who discuss issues of poor while sipping champagne in their million-dollar mansions won’t work anymore.

Rahul Gandhi miserably failed to understand the nerves of modern India where facts travel faster than air. With the powerful show of strength by India on the global stage in G7, G20, SAARC, and Covid19 pandemic, it is highly unlikely that Rahul Gandhi can succeed in his non-directional politics. India in the current situation is definitely in need of strong opposition but UPA, especially Rahul Gandhi, surely doesn’t qualify for it.
