Bharatiya maths is the best in the world: Who knew?

A Universe from Nothing is a popular book by famous physicist Lawrence M. Krauss. It’s complex and can only be understood for minds trained for complexity. Yet India’s Brahmagupta literally created maths from nothing – or more correctly, from Śūnya. Contrasting with our school maths education the British Empire infected the world with, Brahmagupta’s maths is pure simplexity – yet almost nobody knows!

In 1968 I had an argument with my Class 2 school teacher. She had explained multiplication incorrectly. She was stubborn as she was quoting the English definition of multiplication that has been around since 1570. In short it says a × b equals a added to itself b times. Yet that was wrong I thought as it meant 1 × 1 would equal two. She couldn’t accept the logic of a seven year-old boy yet to master his multiplication facts. Yet I had noticed India’s zero had been missing from the British definition of multiplication for 398 years! Her explanation was missing India’s zero. The truth is a × b equals a added to ZERO b times.

Fast-forward 50 years and in 2018 I found myself in India relaunching Brahmagupta’s mathematics!

Jonathan J. Crabtree in suit being introduced in Kolkata India.

Fast-forward to this week and I gave an invited talk as guest lecturer for Roorkee Institute of Technology in Uttarakhand. In it, I revealed the simple links between Brahmagupta’s 18 Sutras of Symmetry and the laws of physics. The result is the world’s best maths explanations that make sense to children.

If you are curious to know how Bharatiya Maths works (and strangely this has NOT been uncovered by Indians) I invite you to watch a replay of my talk.

Importantly, after almost 38 years of research I am gifting all my Bharatiya Maths research to Education Minister Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’. Let’s hope he leverages my research to help make crores of Indian kids learn to love maths rather than fear it as so many do today.

If you are curious, all my work is being made available free at my Podometic Bharatiya Maths website.

Stay safe!

Addressing the primary complaint of the youths of Bengal- BJP indulges in religious politics

0

As the Assembly Elections are approaching in Bengal, the conversations around the nooks and corners of the State, in the clubs and playgrounds among the youth is about who will win. The main point of any political discussion is that the youth of Bengal doesn’t want religion and politics to be mixed and that is why the educated young guys who are living a cozy life hate the BJP because they assert that BJP is mixing politics and religion – I ask which party doesn’t mix politics and religion?

Even I don’t like the mixing of religion with politics, but this is only possible in an utopian world.

Khilafat’s Legacy

There is a first time for everything and this fusion of religion and politics happened for the first time when Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi fused together a purely Nationalist political movement of Non-Cooperation with a purely religious movement of Khilafat – It has always puzzled me as to why a purely religious movement was amalgamated with a Nationalist movement. This also marked the beginning of Muslim Appeasement Politics in India.

The Ghost of 1947

The legacy of Khilafat carried on and rolled up into a demand for separate electorate for Muslims which then went further and within one-and-a-half decades resulted in the partition of India on religious lines. The leaders of Khilafat Movement(except Maulana Abul Kalam Azad) later went on to advocate for Islamic separatism and those who survived till the time of partition, migrated to Pakistan.

The Partition of India happened along religious lines and we have to adjust with this reality and thus any kind of fusion of religious politics that we see today, must be attributed to this grim reality.

Politics of Religion

When our very own Chacha Nehru became the PM, he bulldozed various societal reforms, all of which concerned only one religion – The Hindus. Popularly known as the Hindu Code Bill, these bunch of laws were made to override Hindu Personal Laws. But Nehru refused to touch the Muslim Personal Law. Why? Politics of Religion!

When our Chacha made 5 year Plans for India’s growth and every time we were found to be clocking an average growth rate of 3–3.5%. So, to lay the blame of such dismal economic performance on the Hindu society, one economist in late 1970s coined the term “Hindu Rate of Growth”, attributing the poor growth rate to the Hindu belief of “Karma” and “Bhagya”(fortune). This is another instance of Politics of Religion!

Shah Bano Case

A old Muslim lady was fighting for her right of financial assistance from her former husband and the judiciary of India stamped it’s authority on her right. But, in comes the All India Muslim Personal Law Board and other Muslim organizations and the Rajiv Gandhi government passed a law to overturn the judgement of the Court! Why? Politics of Religion!

Overt pseudo-secularism

Uptil the 1990s, religion was mixed with politics in a discreet way, the secularism of India was shredded in bit by bit. Now was the time to take this fusion of politics and religion to the grand stage – by establishing the Ministry of Minority Affairs. This Ministry only considered Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Parsis and Buddhists as minorities, Jain were added only in 2006. Then our successive “secular” governments rolled out numerous schemes – from scholarships to loans for businesses – and all were based on religion. It was the height of pseudo-secularism, an insult of basic mathematics when Hindus in Kashmir, Punjab, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Lakshwadeep, inspite of being a Minority, were considered as a Majority! Why? Politics of Religion!

Muslims have the first right to our resources

In came an era where the Samajwadis, RJD, Left, Congress, all ventured into Muslim Appeasement Politics! They

  • Organized Iftar parties on taxpayer’s money in CM’s bunglows and Rashtrapati Bhavans.
  • Visited Maulanas and Maulvis to ask for votes. Sonia Gandhi went to Jama Masjid to plead to the Imam that ‘secular vote should not split’
  • Provide monthly salary to Imams and Muezzins in Delhi, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and other states
  • Provide religion based reservations in Kerala Public Service Commission, including Muslims and Christians in SC/ST and OBC to let them avail benefits of reservations

For the case of UP, Muslim-Yadav-Dalit was considered a winning formula in Elections and exploited by all so-called secular parties.

Our former PM, Manmohan Singh, went on to declare that Muslims have the first right to our resources .

Religion of Politics

Now having shown how the successive political parties have gone in pursuit of the Muslim vote bank and how things became overt post the 1990s, the main question is why does this happen? The answer lies in the inherent, exclusionary nature of the Muslim society. What started out as a separate electorate for Muslims, resulted in the creation of Pakistan. This demand for a separate electorate display the grim, exclusionary nature of the Muslim society. In the post Independence era, there was this nature that prevented Nehru from touching the critical and explosive subject of Common Civil Code – a basic law for any secular country. For decades the political parties have wooed the Muslim vote bank because of their unity, pertaining to their common religious identity while the lack of a common religious identity for the Hindus rendered them politically untouchable!

In the modern era, the BJP took advantage of this disgruntled Hindu society and tried to carve out a Hindu vote bank which transcends caste, creed, region and language. As the Hindu society realized it’s inability to affect politics due to the fissures of caste, creed and language, it started to move together to the platform of a common Hindu identity – a change which affected 2014 and 2019 Election results.

It is a necessity for the Hindus to form a vote bank to counter the Muslim vote bank. But, alas, the young men of Bengal aren’t aware of the political challenges that we have to counter nor are they aware of the potential communal fallout of our failure to form a Hindu vote bank and rally behind the BJP until other alternatives are found.

Since the ill-informed young men love to live in their own La La Land, they aren’t aware of the dark political history, of the harrowing historical context of such fusion of politics and religion and of the necessity of the Hindu society for marshaling their strength behind Saffron. We are simply left with no choice.

Lack of such knowledge is detrimental for us and lack of our religious identity is potentially problematic, the youth of Bengal lacks in both.

TMC and violence: Brutal attacks on local BJP workers is normal in West Bengal

0

For over sixty years, West Bengal has been a hotbed of political and communal violence in India. The recent attack on Gopal Majumdar’s (a local BJP worker) octogenarian mother manifests the inherent violent antagonism against the BJP among the TMC’s leaders and workers.

The CPI(M) incited this custom of violence during its long reign over the state. CPI(M)’s reign included gut-wrenching massacres such as the ‘Marichjhapi Massacre’ of 1979, where hundreds of Hindus were deliberately massacred by the state police in gunfire. Mamata Banerjee seized power from the Communists in 2011 on the promise of transitioning Bengal from being an epicenter of political and communal violence to a modern, flourishing state. But in practice, after 10 years of her haughty rule, the condition of law and order and the fundamental rights of Hindus to practice their religion and festivals is still grim and lamentable. So Mamata Banerjee and her TMC has offered nothing to the people of Bengal but instead carried on the anti-Hindu legacy of its precursor by appeasing a certain vote bank and vandalizing the resources and properties of the opposition and quashing and brutally murdering its workers and leaders (like the Communists did with the Congress).

Also, these sabotages exhibit the insecurity, rage and vulnerability among TMC. For the first time in these 10 years, an “outsider” party and its high command is challenging to decimate the very existence of TMC from its bastion.

But how is the 2021 assembly election different from the previous elections?

The BJP, once a crippling and trifling party that has never ruled the state since independence, sees a befitting opportunity (highlighting Mamata’s incompetency) to form its government for the first time and hence has emerged as the arch-rival to Mamata’s TMC and the left front including the Congress. Its zealous campaigning and rallies such as ‘Poriborton Yatra’ and ‘Lokkho Sonar Bangla’ can easily mobilize the downtrodden Hindu population, of which 57% cast their vote to the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and BJP got its highest-ever MP’s from West Bengal: 18.

Home Minister Amit Shah is personally handling the elections (which further perturbs Mamata) and has deployed the party’s star-campaigners, including UP’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and BJP President J.P. Nadda. In both the interviews given to India Today and ABP News, Shah asserted that his party is optimistic and his political experience says that the BJP is winning 200+ seats and forming its first-ever government in West Bengal. When asked about the Chief Ministerial candidate, Shah added, ‘The Chief Minister will the one who is born and native to this sacred land.’

The 2nd of May 2021 will be a turning point for West Bengal’s political history if the BJP secures a majority in the legislative assembly. If they pass this ‘Agnipariksha’, it would become unequivocal that the BJP, in the grasp of Modi and Shah, is invincible and can even trounce the mighty opposition in any election, once resolved (as we saw in GHMC elections last year). But the core question is: ‘Will the administrative change and induction of a new Chief Minister put a full stop to this unceasing loss of lives and properties?’

Well, the answer lies in the future’s womb. Let it unravel.

Sanatan manifesto: Deep belief in Ishwar

0

Right wing is growing rapidly in India. Hindus are realizing the realities of the present times clearly with each passing day. The fantasy world created by media, education system and Bollywood is losing its hold over Hindu psyche. Sufi songs no longer sound beautiful. Hindus are no longer ignorant about the verses of Quran and Hadis. Hindu society which was deeply hypnotized by Bollywood is slowly coming out of the trance, all thanks to the efforts of the twitter handle Gems of Bollywood.

However, in these testing times Hindus need to remember the core of our civilization. The belief that immensely inspired warriors like Shivaji, Maharana Pratap and Guru Gobind Singh. That is the belief in Ishwar. A person’s motivation to fight for Dharma is directly proportional to his belief in Ishwar. No effort that is put to save our civilization will escape Ishwar’s notice. This fundamental truth should be imprinted in a Hindu Kshatriya’s mind.

We may have our differences, but we are all putting efforts to save our civilization. From Ishwar’s viewpoint all efforts put by sons of Dharma are equal. The best translation of Dharma to English is not religion. Using ‘religion’ for Dharma is very misleading. Worse than that is calling Dharma a ‘way of life’. A word in English that comes closest to Dharma is ‘duty’.

Each son of Bharat has the duty to fulfil his Dharma, i.e. his duty towards his civilization. The level of commitment may vary. If I give one hour every day, there are men who give 10 hours a day for Dharma. Just giving five minutes to Dharma will nurture your soul and build spiritual strength in a man to give 15 hours per day in future. We aren’t perfect. In the present times we have more distraction than ever before. I too am a victim to the distractions of the internet age. Nevertheless, when it comes to serving Dharma I never forget my duty to give time every day. It gives me strength to overcome my vices and I have been successful to some extent. The sons who can serve Dharma even for two minutes every day have a very high standing in the eyes of Ishwar than a Nobel Prize winner in science who has zero intention of serving Dharma. Whoever is with me in serving Dharma is my brother. Whoever is not serving Dharma means nothing to me, even if he is the greatest person in the eyes of the world. The world is made of imperfect humans after all. Only Dharma is perfect.

The best way of protecting Dharma is living for Dharma. All efforts are equal in the eyes of Ishwar. The more you live for Dharma the closer Ishwar will be with you. Your body is going to perish. The world is going to end. Universe is going to end. Your Atman will remain. Dharma will remain and Ishwar will remain.

I live for fulfilling my role as a son of Bharat. I owe my flesh, blood, tears and happiness to the soil of my motherland which has generously nourished me. My duty is to serve with integrity for the most Dharmic civilization of the world. Because everything man made has an expiry day. They are superficial and have no value. Only Dharma is supreme.

Let’s work on Naveen’s advice on education

“Should we not have examinations that focus on equality and attracting merit as opposed to examination patterns that are heavily dependent on highly paid coaching classes,” Naveen Patnaik, CM-Odisha, raised this educational point, among others many important points concerning national politics and economic development, while addressing the sixth governing council meeting of the NITI Aayog on February 20, 2021. Going further, as reported, he stated ‘the prevailing examination pattern will eliminate merit in the long run and deny justice to lakhs of children who live in rural areas and lack physical and economic access to coaching classes.’ And later warning the top politicians including Prime Minister and Chief Ministers and national policy planners manning the central government run Think Tank, which replaced monolithic Planning Commission six years back, he advised and I quote, “NITI Aayog should look into this very serious issue or else in a few years, there will be serious distortions”.

When a politician heading government in a state for more than 20 consecutive years talks about ‘…….. serious distortions’, I may add that in present system of examinations/tests for admission into top national level engineering, management and medical institutions such as IITs, AIIMSs and IIMs, where best faculties, best infrastructure, etc. in Indian standard, and best academies available at a highly discounted costs, India’s large number of naturally talented students are not selected for admission in them. Majority of best talents aren’t picked up because, as CM Patnaik said and I concur, they are in rural areas having no access to coaching, which are mostly available in cities, and they can’t afford huge costs for such coaching.

Here, let’s discuss a practical example. Prior to going into the example, I say in confidence that this example isn’t an isolated case. In my neighborhood, there were two students; they were batch-mates and close friends, and more or less equally good in academics as both in 10th standard scored 9.8 CGPAs under CBSE. Both wanted to join IIT. One’s father was a Class-II employee in state government office; afforded coaching at distance Kota based +2 Science college cum coaching institution. Other one’s father was a private techno-management college faculty, and so can’t afford above said luck for his child. Latter joined state premier college for +2 Science, and it is an open secret how the academy is run in the government colleges with 128 students in a class and how much time is left for imparting study after taking attendance of 128 lots.

And let’s not discuss how many working days are practically there in strike, bandh, student union election, etc. infected academic environment in state run colleges. She pursued her +2 without coaching; cost was so prohibitive to her family’s income. While Kota coached got above 80% mark in +2 under CBSE and a seat in IIT in 2 + 1 years of +2 Science study cum IIT coaching, latter one cleared her +2 with just 58% mark under state board where allegedly marking is highly conservative. She accepted admission in a local engineering college soon after +2 unlike her friend. This kind of situation not only demoralizes natural talent but also contributes disturbing family and social harmony. Sadly, this social aspect is not noted by policy planners. Other unbearable aspect is: the teenagers use to talk among them that it isn’t the talent that is needed for getting a seat in elite IIT, AIIMS, IIM, etc. Money matters.

In fact, though too late, Odisha CM has raised a very important point. A rare tempting and intellectually thought! I don’t know whether PM-led NITI Aayog will give due importance to the thought of a CM immediately or defer the same for future consideration or completely ignore the same, but the issue raised deserves the immediate attention of the policy planners. And this will be possible if all the stakeholders join hands. But, I think, above all, nation’s civil society members have a major role in expediting Naveen initiative by way of building pressure on the government.

During the hullabaloo against Common Entrance Test for all engineering institutions/colleges throughout the length and breadth of the country irrespective of status and branding of institutions in early 2010s, I had raised this issue a la Naveen Patnaik raised without any success –frankly speaking nobody responded to my correspondences and no newspaper published the same as if they were of no use- before the so-called vanguard of worthy brand image of IITs, who were of the view that if newly proposed Common Entrance Test conducted and IIT seats be filled up from the merit list of the same abandoning decades old separate IIT specific entrance test, this would destroyed the elite tag of the institutions built over years of hard work of faculties and students apart from the government’s huge investment that MNC value while recruiting.

Agitation against CET under the leadership of Somnath Bharati, the then President of All India IIT Alumni Association and Advocate in Supreme Court, who is now one of the most controversial Aam Aadmi Party MLA in Delhi, has been partially successful as the government agreed to hold a separate test for IITs called “JEE Advance” after CET, later renamed “JEE Main”, held for students having higher percentile in latter and wants to join IIT in order to safeguard the alleged loss of elite brand image of IITs. I had following questions in my correspondences to anti-CET agitators: Q. 1. IITs are meant for producing best quality engineers for nations for nation building. But how many IITians including Somnath Bharati himself are in engineering profession now? And what is their contribution to Engineering profession?

Q. 2. Are MNCs, who literally outsource talents from underdeveloped countries causing brain-drain there, built IITs? If MNCs recruitments are the objectives, why the government has prioritized spending billions of rupees in elite institutions when there are schools without blackboards, chalks and all season’s roofs in county sides? Is it democratic justice to the citizens of the country? Q.3. Who is selected to IIT? Only those who can afford coaching fee in Kota IIT factories or similar factories mushroomed in cities inspired by Kota success. And requested the agitators to pay a visit to coaching institution and study how teenaged are forced to be IIT products, majority of them -comes what way- to satisfy their parents’ ambition as if a seat in IIT and AIIMS after +2 is the end of the road.

Let’s end this mad rush. Let’s revive spirit of school and college education systems of yesteryears when only non-meritorious students were detained in schools beyond normal hour and during play time for coaching so that they got passed rather than now-a-days’ all in coaching factories irrespective of merit standard thus producing machines bereft of human and social value and national spirit. It is really very eyesoring and unfortunate to see large number of cycles and two-wheeler in front of unhygienic coaching institutions in colonies, lanes and by-lanes many times blocking narrow streets and pathways -when the children supposed to be in play grounds or with their parents at home- than in the huge campus of Odisha’s premier BJB (Autonomous) College and its likes in other cities all over India.

Nationalism, pitched well, can emerge as a powerful nudge: India is showing, how?

0

It is interesting to see how Thaler’s novel change-management concept is being taken forward at a mega scale in public life of India. That nationalism could be a tool to nudge people for a targeted behavioral pattern is a fresh and interesting revelation.

Let us see how nationalism in the recent times has received traction, with a strong intent for mass persuasion and influence in the matters of governance and political action.

Demonetization was resorted to as an ‘Action against Nation’s looters’. Flagship schemes like Make in India, Digital India, Start-Up India, Stand-Up India were conceived to unlock entrepreneurial potential of ‘New India’. Economic reforms like GST, as ‘One Nation, One Tax, One Market’, power Sector reform as ‘One Nation One Grid’ (now, Gas, Water grid added), payment system as ‘One Nation One Card’, tracking vehicles on road as ‘One Nation One Tag’, have been espoused with an tinge of nationalism. The fervor was even higher in hailing abrogation of Article 370 as establishing ‘One Country One Constitution’.

Novel narrative for noble purpose

For population control, so the narrative goes, we need nudging people for small family. Those opting for fewer kids need to be ‘honored’. Choosing to restrict the size of families is an expression of love for the nation. Family planning is thus clearly linked to Nation-Building.

For achieving a 5 trillion-dollar economy, we need investment, particularly private investment. Nudging active participation of private sector and Corporates are seen as a must. If wealth is not created, it will not be distributed. If wealth is not distributed then the poor cannot benefit. So ‘Corporates are our nation’s Wealth Creators’. They should be given pride of place.

For advancing the proposal of simultaneous elections, we need to nudge Election Commission/political parties/agents/voters to appreciate the disadvantages of frequent elections- ‘draining the scare resources of the nation’. So ‘One Nation One Election’.

For reviving demand and consumption, and creating jobs, we need to support local businesses and industry. So urging people to buy and promote local products, to be “vocal about local” is the need of the hour. This is also the time to boycott foreign (read Chinese) goods! The clarion call is “Atma-Nirbhar Bharat”.

Ek Bharat is Shrestha Bharat’ well captures the approach and narrative.

High Impact

Nationalistic thoughts, phrases and slogans, advanced in public domain, generally act as an effective nudge to achieve consensus or influence people to rally around the narrative of the State. Nationalism, with its different reflections in nomenclatures such as ‘India’, ‘Bharat’, ’Motherland’, ‘New India’ gives meaning and relevance to the identity and  roots. With an attendant sense of pride, nationalism is seen playing a major part in determination of behavior, be it economic, social or political, both at individual and group level. The traction of Atma-Nirbhar Bharat, for a self-reliant India, is the latest example.

Points to Ponder

There are of course some questions in the popular debate. Whether nationalism with its big overriding sweep clouds judgement and restricts human choices? Whether nationalism works better for bigger goals only, like national security, sovereignty etc.? Whether nationalism, identifying with large power universe, compel people to see everything in terms of competitive prestige?

Counter questions posed are also many. Whether the debate on negative side of nationalism suffers from prejudices? Whether the dark side is overhyped? Whether such a debate undermines or undervalues the constructive impact of nationalism, arguably driven by political agenda? As high impact policy actions require public support, broad consensus and positive energy, doesn’t it makes sense to pitch nationalism, with its creative potential, to act as nudge?

Re-purposing Nationalism

Surely, we need to guard against the negative effects of hyper nationalism. Yet, blatantly undervaluing or summarily negating the nationalistic emotions and its use-value may seem far-fetched, unfair and imprudent. Invocation of imagined apprehension or purely ideological discourses on the nationalistic thoughts and action, would only weaken the creative potential of nationalism to act as a powerful nudge. Such apprehensions or discourses appear misplaced at a time when we observe absence of any bias of exclusion and discrimination on the ground, in all the policy actions of the State, when all our constitutional rights are live and kicking, and when abundant space for alternative voice is available.

It is indeed a revelation of sorts to see the creative potential of nationalism being leveraged as nudge, to advance high-impact policy actions, and meet national aspiration.

Web 3.0 and end of American century

0

The end of America’s century is almost imminent, and it is NOT that some Asian tigers, aka, India/China, etc. are rising economically which will end it. The end will come due to mental demented-ness the cultural wokes in new American generation display, and the mainstreaming of that by their society.

America dominated the world as besides military and economic power, it represented an idea, of freedom, which they proudly and rightly proclaimed as “American Dream”. In that world the hard-working youth could realize its true potential and the society as a whole would ensure the fairness. There were racial fault lines present in their society, and however late in the day, but they were filling those. Obviously, lack of history and culture was a big hindrance for them but overall, it was a country, that represented FREEDOM.

I see two major trends unravelling:

1) America is not that same country which guarantees the freedom any longer. Cancel culture dominates the America and worryingly accepted by their elites. Everyone falls in line and people do not express their counter views without fear, even among friends.

Their youth is now fighting imaginary cultural wars, instead of living an American dream of making it big in the world through sheer hard work. Instead of optimism, their next generation is filled with despair and is angry for no reason. In this new Woke world, there are thousands of genders, Math is racist, men are not men and women are not women, and every other nonsensical view that you can imagine. The world is observing this with astonishments and disdain!! Will they allow the same stupidity to flow into their homes as well, just because a deranged generation in America thinks so? I doubt. And the primary reason is most other culturally dominating countries including Irish or English (85% of US presidents are English/Irish origin), Europe, Middle east, Japan, China, India, all these countries have long history and culture established over long period, with their own social realities. There will be a strong push back, from within these societies to disown this stupidity flowing from US. Worried parents will make sure that American influence is pushed out from their homes, be it in the form of movies, TV, events or culture. Obviously, it is never one way march to victory but net-net, instead of embracing of American dream, there would be a push back to American reality!

  • Web 3.0 is round the corner. Information is going to be truly distributed, and Cloud computing is going to be ubiquitous. No longer it will be Silicon Valley Tech oligarchs who will dominate the Tech world. THIS will end the dominance of American based tech platforms. I see a truly distributed information platforms, no longer controlled by obscure algorithms. Most governments woke up to this stark reality that they saw during American election. The impact of these events is highly discounted at the moment, but you can see, Germans French, Polish, Australian and Indian establishments are openly critical to this Tech platform propagated woke world view and they rightly assess this as a very strong attack on their own countries. The American tech which was welcomed by the world as harbinger of freedom into most democratic countries is now being pushed back as some dark forces trying to disturb their social order. Obviously, this will result into a new normal, of a distributed and more fragmented web (i.e., not everyone would be consuming the same algorithms), which can be called Web 3.0.

THESE trends will be the one that will end the American century, of technology and cultural dominance. Let’s see how it unravels but surely a new world order is coming!!

Nanavati comission report on Godhra riots shows that “Satyameva Jayate”

0

One man was repeatedly targeted for nearly 18 years just by telling lies. So many lies were told in many ways by many people, but with one goal of defaming a man, a party, an organization and a faith. What happened in Gujarat in 2002 was not warranted and was very painful. No one in civilized society would ever support such incidents. After the riots, politically motivated propaganda was developed to demonize a person. Some Political parties, Media, social activists and NGOs have created a narrative suitable to them and showing Narendra Modi and BJP in a very bad light and being responsible for Gujarat riots of 2002. VHP and RSS were also attacked by them and deliberately lies and stories were planted to malign them. The Nanavati and Mehta report prepared extensively brings out the truths and says that Narendra Modi led State government has no role in instigating the riots of Gujarat in 2002 and gives a clean chit.

The two-member panel of Retired Justice Nanavati and Retired Justice Mehta submitted report in two parts. The first part was submitted in 2008 and dealt with the burning of Sabarmati Express. It said that Sabarmati train fire in Godhra was a preplanned conspiracy and has been orchestrated intentionally resulting in ghastly burning and killings of 56 Karsevaks. The second part dealt with the aftermath of Godhra fire incident and subsequent Gujarat riots. The second part was made available to public on December 11th 2019.So many lies which were said and propagated by some people and media were debunked.

Second part submitted in 2014 was tabled in assembly in December and is oit to public now. Second part said anger in large sections of Hindu community after Godhra incident led to violent attacks against muslims and their properties. There was no evidence to show that any minister or government official or religious or political outfit as such incited or provoked riots. The commission rubbished allegations that Narendra Modi instigated or provoked communal violence .It went on to say that with aim of maligning image of Narendra Modi, the then Chief Minister of Gujarat, false allegations were made against Modi.

Many allegations were wrong. The allegations of then chief minister Narendra justifying riots were absolutely wrong.False allegations were made that Modi said “A preplanned terror attack by one community against other”.In reality Modi said “Preplanned inhumane collective act of terrorism”.The comission quoted government press notice in which CM said “The dastardly attack was not ort of communal violence, but a preplanned cold blooded henious act”.Things like parading charred bodies of karsevaks in Ahmedabad did not happen at all.Narendra modi did not receive any call from ex MP Ishan Jafri when Gulbarga society was attacked by a mob.The comission said that the witness  of Gulbarga society  riots gave conflicting statements. In her first affidavit she stated Jafri called lot of people for help.Subsequently in 2008 she changed her statement and said Jafri called Modi and Modi refused to help.Another lie was by ex CM Amarsinh chowdary who said that ,he met Modi at 2 PM afternoon on february 28,2002 and appraised CM about dangers to lives of Jafri and ithers in Gulbarga society. To this Modi submitted the written response by government to the panel which did not show Amarsinh Chowdary specifically mentioning a person or a place when he met Modi.

The comission reported that the allegation made by former IPS officer R.B.sreekumar that CM has orally given ilegal  instructions to state machinery was false. In the intial affidavits Srikumar did not make any such statement. After departmental action was initiated against him,he made the allegation later. The comission said that “From the multiple affidavits,it was clear Srikumar was a disgruntled officer. The report found no proof to suggest negligence or reluctance of government or state machinery in taking necessary steps to curtail and prevent communal riots. The district authorities and police force acted sincerely.Home department and police gave instructions to distict heads and commissioners to mobilize police force for bundobast and cancelled all leaves of police. But,the police were under numbered and inadequately armed.Army which was was away was airlifted.Army arrived by night of February 28 2002 and provided with logistcs in 3 hours and was into action.Report also said in some districts BJP leaders helped in maintaining peace and helped local people and authorities.IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt gave false statement of  attending meeting with Narendra Modi on Febraury 27,2002 in which CM instructed police to not take strict action and allow majority .Sanjiv bhatt produced a fax copy sent by P.P.Upodhyaya about Panchmahal incident to support his allegation.Commission said that ,Sanjiv bhatt produced false evidences, created a story about attending meeting with Modi. Sanjiv bhatt was already involved in cases like drug planting case in 1996 and 1990 Jamnagar custodial death case for which he was awrded life sentence. There was one more IPS officer Rahul Sharma who gave a CD showing call data between politicians, government officials and rioters.Rahul Sharma did not submit the original CD from private telecom companies. Sharma said he transferred data to his personal computer and then made CDs which were submitted to SIT.The location of original CDs unkown.Social activist Teesta Setalvad tried desperately to create false case by manipulating witnesses like Zareena Sheikh, who changed testimonies repeatedly and petition was found guilty of perjury

The above facts which came after extensive investigation clearly suggest there was extensive deliberate propaganda to tarnish image of Modi. Poltical motivation was clear in influencing media, some government officials and witnesses to manipulate evidences and statements. No one wants such communal incidents to happen.Country has to stand united in such incidents.Instead,a section tried to take advantage of situation and created false allegations to demonise CM. How can the unnecessary emotional trauma suffered by Chief minister,Sate ministers and government officials be reversed now? How can those ,who created and spread such false allegations ,answer their self conscience? Will they be apologetic ever?
