“The Kerala story” , a film produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and directed by Sudipto Sen shows the plight of Hindu girls who were converted and recruited to ISIS by Muslim fundamentalists. The film grossed ₹8.03 crore in India on first day and reported the 39.73% growth with total earnings of ₹19.25 crore on its second day of the release.
The film gets an appreciation from every part of the country for bringing the social awareness amongst Indian youngsters. However, there are some questions raised against, by some prominent left-liberal intellectuals justifying the numbers of Hindus converted to other religion in last two decades, the claim made by the movie producers.
On the other hand, netizens countered their argument saying “The claim that 32,000 people converted to Muslim religion, was in terms of overall conversion happened in the state in past two decades and even if only one innocent girl being targeted and converted by means of feigning love, is way too more dangerous for humanity”. “This movie is not against any religion, it is against the extremism and terrorist activities ” they wrote.
It is reported that The Kerala High Court in 2009 asked State government to make strong laws against forceful religious conversion under the garb of ‘Love’ and to consider enacting a law to prohibit such heinous acts of terror. Moreover, justice K T Sankaran of the Kerala High Court also stated that “from some of the Police reports it was clear that there were ‘concerted’ efforts to convert girls of a particular religion to another with the blessings of local outfits”.
Interestingly, apart from the judicial bodies of the state, political parties irrespective of their ideologies also raised concerns over emerging “ Love Jihad” threat in the Kerala. Former Chief Minister of the Kerala and leader of Communist party, V S Achutanandan warned about the intensions of ‘Muslim Fundamentalists’ to turn Kerala into Muslim state.
“Their plan is to make Kerala Muslim state in the next 20 years. For that, they are luring youngsters, offering them money and insisting them to marry Hindu girls to increase the Muslim population” he stated. Notably, in 2012 then Congress Chief Minister of Kerala Oommen Chandy presented the report, in response to the question raised by CPM K K Lathika, that between 2006 to 2009 around 2660 Hindu and Christian girls have become the victim of ‘conversion conspiracy of religious fundamentalists’ so far.
Upon the above statements, by the then leaders of the ruling parties such as Congress and CPI(M) whose actions have always been to appease Muslims and to radicalise the youngsters for their vote bank and to stay in power, Netizens are sparking the raw against these leaders claiming them as main perpetrators and root of these targeted conversions.
