History and Historiography on Prithviraj Chauhan – a course of conflict

History and Historiography run ante, specially when it comes to Prithviraj Chauhan. Our ‘intellectual elite’ which cries about interventions in the memory of historical figures, have ended up committing the same interventions themselves.

Many reviews appeared (at Quint, Wire, etc) recently, regarding a movie/serial on Prithviraj Chauhan. Some exhibited an arrogant, forceful criticism for the sake of it. Others were subtle, subversive propaganda than frank expression. Regardless, in hitting a Bollywood soup of history-fiction, history became the bigger casualty. These reviews, when talking of history, haven’t stuck to facts. We set the record straight on their distortions.

1. Quoting Cynthia Talbot a review says that colonial era onwards Prithviraj became popular first as a Rajput hero, then as a nationalist hero to suit the narratives of anti-British struggles, and later as a Hindu hero for the post-independence Indian politics.

Putting British era writers aside, and we’ll come to the Hindu factor later. Prithviraj Chauhan’s kingdom was in the northwest, but he became a popular trans-regional figure in the medieval age even before the Mughals arrived. At the junction of 14th-15th century CE comes HammirMahakavya of Nayachandra Suri. It covers Prithviraj’s feats in detail and was written as part of a challenge in the Tomara ruler’s court (Gwalior) from central India. This text and various other Jain Prabandhas of 14th-15th century Gujarat (like PrabandhaChintāmani) cover Prithviraj and display a vivid geographic knowledge of India’s northern & western halves. As their authors were Jain scholars habitually travelling the Indian expanse via numerous Gachchas (monastry), it is certain that Prithviraj Chauhan’s story was equally well-traveled.

2. The reviews are marred with contradictions. For example after saying that Prithviraj Chauhan was popularized as a Rajput and National hero only the British onwards. It is also said that Prithviraj is portrayed as a villain (thus popular) in a central Indian regional epic of Alha-Udal from Mughal era.

3. Even in that portrayal, the factual errors galore. They profile Alha Udal’s lore as popular in ‘non-Rajputs of Rajasthan’. Reality? The story originated and circulated in Bundelkhand. Up to 19th century CE it wasn’t popular in Rajasthan. Worse, such distortion looks like a surreptitious attempt to sow divisions by mis-interpretating the regional polarity as a social one, pitting ‘monstrous feudal Rajputs’ at one end and the non-Rajput ‘peasant’ classes on the other.

The imaginary atrocity literature doesn’t acknowledge basic historical facts. Like the battles of Prithviraj’s Mahoba campaign in central India (used in the claim) were, according to the Alha khand as well, fought between Rajputs on both sides – Chauhans on one and Chandellas-Gahadavalas-Banaphars on the other end.

4. Reviewers’ charge that the primacy given to Raso has robbed other narrating variants of due place, is again wrong. Like Raso was popular in/around Rajputana. Alha Udal had been popular in base area – Bundelkhand. Acharya Merutunga’s near contemporary Prabandha Chintamani was written in Gujarat, covering Prithviraj in detail. Its narrative is different from Raso, and isn’t robbed of anything.

Comparing Raso and Alha stories in political context falls in the apple and orange category of unfair. Because one sits on a historical base while the other on folk. Reasons are many for why, as compared to Alha-Udal, the story of Prithviraj went trans-regional and gradually very popular (national):

a) Simple language, relatable story by which the Raso made Prithviraj immortal. In relative popularity even the contemporary & more reliable PrithvirajVijaya fades as it is in chaste Sanskrit, to which the medieval masses were increasingly out of touch.

b) Prithviraj’s story (Raso & otherwise) got ample corroboration in contemporary native+foreign literature and inscriptions of/around the 12th century AD. But the old Hindi story of Alha-Udal lacks corroborative evidence from the 12th century and has surfaced around/after the 16th century Raso.

c) Hindu Royals’ patronage to Raso.

d) Prithviraj’s proven clash with the known nemesis of medieval India – invaders from the northwest. His connection to Delhi which became an important centre during Turkish Sultanate rule.

e) Prithviraj’s kingdom, political stature being larger than Alha-Udal.

5. Then there are baseless dismissals calling Prithviraj an ‘immobile fatso’ and his nationalist hero portrayal as a modern construct.

But Nation-state the way we know it today is itself a modern construct. Anyway, reasons of Prithviraj being famous and a Hindu civilizational hero, since long before 20th century politics, are factually borne in his actions:

a) Per PrithvirajVijaya when the rapacious hordes of Ghori had ravaged all from Bikampur to Nadol (in 1178 CE). Chauhan scion had strongly rebuffed the Ghurid proposal to ally with them. Prithviraj reiterated his ancestral vow to exterminate mlechhas. Though his kingdom wasn’t the prime target, and Ghurid destruction took place in locations under vassalage of rival Solankis. Yet when Nadol (another kingdom) fell, the furious Prithviraj stood up for battle. How and why the teenage King was overruled is a separate matter.

b) Based on the HammirMahakavya, Phalodi Mata temple inscription, Kalpasutra colophon we find that in 1182-83 CE when other Hindu Kingdoms outside his reign were trampled under Ghori’s torture. Prithviraj promised to lay Ghori prostrate and repent-full. He sped out of his Kingdom in full force, charged on Ghurids and captured Ghori.
Clearly Prithviraj’s thoughts, actions weren’t reserved just for his Kingdom.

c) Indian & foreign sources converge that in Ghurid captivity, other than torture, Prithviraj received lucrative offers of submitting as a vassal of Ghori. Thus save his life and throne. But the safety and honour of this country’s people were not on table. All such offers were obviously discarded and eventually led to his death.

d) Prithviraj demonstrates wider perspective and awareness when he repairs the relations with Tomaras of Delhi that had gone sour since the death of Vigraharaj Chauhan (married in Tomaras via princess Desaladevi). Later we see Tomaras fighting beside Chauhans shoulder to shoulder in both the Tarain battles.
Jain texts narrate that the Chauhan king ceased the past few years’ bitter, sporadic sparring with the Solankis of Gujarat. Despite having an upper hand, Prithviraj concluded a peace treaty with Solankis in 1186 CE. It brought crucial peace on his southern front.
All this for what? Obviously Prithviraj had sensed a far heavier issue on the northwestern horizon.

6. Movie/serial reviewers tell us that Ghori the foreigner has been quickly (deliberately) turned into a Muslim.

Is it? Before Tarain-II, Ghori’s message to Prithviraj Chauhan as per contemporary Taj-ul-Maasir and also Ferishta was :

“to place in his ear the ring of slavery to the sublime court, and embrace the faith of Islam by repeating the precepts of the law”.

This message, according to these very texts, was rebuked and rejected by the Rajput King with equal insult.

Abdul Malik Isami’s says that Tarain-II was a Hindu-Muslim clash and the Hindus fought bravely.

Mid 14th century Futuh-us-Salatin

Domestically, the 15th century Kanhad De Prabandha and 16th century Raso profile the locals like Chauhans as Hindus and foreign invaders as Muslims (pair-words like Hindu-Turk are frequent).

It baffles that though the foreigners were Muslim, appeared here declaring themselves as such according to their own histories. We still resist from the proverbial spade. What else to call them, Martians?

When these invaders challenged our ancestors to either accept Islam and subordination, or die. When our ancestors refused to bow before this fanaticism. How can we tell, nay, delude ourselves saying a religious polarity didn’t play out amidst the vagaries of these medieval invasions.

7. Reviews also accuse that after Ghori being painted an uncivilized ruler, his forces are shown raiding Indian countryside mercilessly. They say that this way – “the Muslim army is othered and villified” for undue and retrospective polarisation.

Saddening indeed that Shahabuddin Ghori has been villified and othered. Despite the Kharatara-Gachcha-Vrihad-Gurvavali (below) informing how the travelling Jain Archarya Jinapati Suri ji suffered immeasurably for months in Ajmer, because the city was still being innocently ravaged by the Islamic hordes of Ghori in 1994 CE, two years after Tarain-II battle.

Lets apologize for Rajasthan’s Jain monks flaming fanaticism by hiding their God’s idols in desert sand because Prithviraj had been killed and Ghori was in control of the kingdom (early 14th century KanyāNayaniya Mahavir-Pratimā Kalpa below). Silly that they were spooked, after all Ghori’s mlechhas were only on tourist visa or at best a political mission, not for destroying the Sarasvati Kanthābharana complex as the marauders claim themselves.

Contemporary history ‘PrithvirajVijaya’ doesn’t name Ghurids as just another rival force, rather as – cow killers, Rahu-like eclipse to civilization. None reading PrithvirjaVijaya, HammirMahakavya can miss the contrast in conventional rhetoric against rival Hindu entities and that with which the Ghurids are treated.

Unpleasant to ‘intellectual elite’, but hard fact is that our medieval ancestors didn’t have the luxury of being high on the shallow Utopian lectures of secularism prevalent in these times.

In the name of criticizing movies/serials, these reviews counter-productively continue defacing Indian history and its inheritors.

पसमांदा मुसलमानो के लिए मसीहा बने नमो

जी हाँ मित्रों आज तक आपने मुसलमानो के केवल “शिया” या “सुन्नी” नामक दो बड़े भागो में विभक्त देखा होगा या फिर इन्हें “हनफि”, “अहमदीया”, “देवबन्दी”, “देहलवी”, ” बरेलवी”, “बहावी” और कई प्रकार की जमातो में बटा देखा होगा। परन्तु क्या आप जानते हैं की इन भारतीय मुसलमानो की कौम कई जातियों और उपजातियो में विभाजित है, नहीं ना, चलीये आज मैं आपको अवगत कराता हूँ, मुसलमानो में फैली जातीय व्यवस्था के बारे में, साथ हि मैं ये भी बताऊंगा कि, ” पसमांदा मुस्लमान” कीन्हे कहते हैं।

मित्रों मुसलमानो में जातीय व्यवस्था निम्न प्रकार से तीन भागो में विभक्त की गई है:-

१:- अशराफ:- ये वो मुसलमान है जो अफगानिस्तान और मध्य एशिया से आए। इसमें वो मुस्लमान हैं जो हिन्दुओ में अपर कास्ट से सम्बन्धित थे और धर्म बदलकर मुस्लमान बन गए। इन्ही में मुगलो को भी शामिल किया जाता है। ये मिर्जा, खान, शेख, सैयद और मुग़ल आते हैं। भारत में मुसलमानो की कुल जनसंख्या का १५-२०% हिस्सा इनका है।

२:-अजलाफ:- हिन्दुओ में बैकवर्ड कास्ट के हिन्दू जो अपना धर्म परिवर्तन कर मुस्लमान बन गए, उन्हें अजलाफ कहा जाता है। अज़लाफ़ मे दर्जी, धोबी, धुनिया, गद्दी, फाकिर, बढई-लुहार, हज्जाम (नाई), जुलाहा, कबाड़िया, कुम्हार, कंजरा, मिरासी, मनिहार, तेली समाज के लोग आते हैं।

३:-अरजाल:- हिन्दुओ के अति-पिछड़ी जातियों और दलित वर्ग के हिन्दू जो अपना धर्म परिवर्तन करके मुस्लमान बन गए वो अरजाल कहे जाते हैं।अरज़ाल में वे दलित हैं जिन्होंने इस्लाम कबूल किया। जैसे कि हलालखोर, भंगी, हसनती, लाल बेगी, मेहतर, नट, गधेरी आदि।

पसमांदा मुस्लमान:-
मित्रों इन्ही अजलाफ और अरजाल वर्ग से आने वाले मुसलमानो को पसमांदा मुस्लमान कहा जाता है, जो भारत के कुल मुसलमानो की जनसंख्या का ८०-८५% हिस्सा हैं। पसमांदा मुसलमानो की जनसंख्या अधिक होने के पश्चात भी इनका दुर्भाग्य है कि, इन पर १५-२०% की जनसंख्या वाले अशराफ मुसलमानो ने अपना प्रभुत्व बनाये रखा और खुद तो कांग्रेस के मुसलिम तुष्टिकरण की निति का लाभ उठाकर सत्ता और शक्ति की मलाई खाते रहे पर पसमांदा मुसलमानो के मुलभुत विकास पर भी ध्यान नहीं दिया।

आपको जानकर आश्चर्य होगा की देश को स्वतन्त्रता मिलने के दिन से लेकर १४वी लोकसभा के गठन तक मुसलमानो के कौम से लगभग ४०० सांसद बने परन्तु इनमे से केवल ६० सांसद ही पसमांदा मुसलमानो में से थे।

स्वतन्त्रता के समय के जितने भी बड़े नेता थे, जैसे मौलाना अबुल कलाम आज़ाद, खान अब्दुल गफ्फार खान, मोहम्मद अली जिन्ना, अली बंधु, डॉ जाकिर हुसैन इत्यादि जितने भी बड़े नाम आपको मिलेंगे सब के सब अपर कास्ट के मुसलमान थे जिन्हें “अशराफ” कहते हैं।

आज भी गुलाम नबी आज़ाद, सलमान खुर्शीद, फारुख अब्दुल्ला, ओवैसी बंधू, मेहबूबा मुफ़्ती, मुख्तार अब्बास नकवी व नजमा हेप्तुल्ला इत्यादि सब के सब अशराफ वर्ग अर्थात अपर कस्ट के हि मुस्लमान, मुसलमानो का नेता बने राजनीती में अपने ताल ठोक रहे हैं।

मित्रो आज हर अशराफ वर्ग का मुस्लमान आर्थिक और समाजिक रूप से मजबूत है, उदाहरण के लिए यदि केवल असुद्दीन ओवैसी की बात करें तो उनके द्वारा चुनाव आयोग को प्रेषित किये गए शपथ पत्र के अनुसार कुल २९ से ३१ करोड़ की सम्पत्ति है, क्या आप कल्पना भी कर सकते हैं की पसमांदा मुसलमानो के वर्ग में आने वाले किसी कुरैशी (कसाई) या जुलाहे, या धोबी या मेहतर या लोहार या दलित वर्ग से आने वाले मुस्लमान के पास इतनी संपत्ति होगी, नहीं ना।

असल में कांग्रेस और अशराफ वर्ग के मुसलमानो के स्वार्थपरक नीतियों के कारण पसमांदा वर्ग के मुसलमानो का कभी विकास हो हि नहीं पाया, जबकि कांग्रेस और असराफ वर्ग के मुसलमानो ने पसमांदा वर्ग में आने वाले देश के ८५% मुसलमानो के कंधे पर पैर रखकर वर्षो तक सत्ता और शक्ति का सुख भोगा, खुद तो धनवान और सामर्थ्यवान होते रहे परन्तु पसमांदा मुसलमानो को गरीबी और अभाव की जिन्दगी से उबरने हि नहीं दिया, केवल उन्हें सपने दिखाते रहे।

पसमांदा आंदोलन:-
जब पसमांदा समाज के लोगों की राजनीतिक भागीदारी का सवाल सामने आता है तो जेहन में अब्दुल क़य्यूम अंसारी (जिनका जनम दिनांक १ जुलाई, १९०५ को हुआ था और पसमांदा समाज के लिए संघर्ष करते हुए दिनांक १८ जनवरी, १९७३ को इनका देहावसान हो गया) का नाम सबसे पहले आता है। जब देश भर में “दो राष्ट्र” को लेकर गहमागहमी थी तब जिन्ना खुद को मुसलमानों के नेता के रूप में पेश कर रहे थे। उन्हें माना भी यही जा रहा था कि वह मुसलमानों का प्रतिनिधित्व करते हैं। लेकिन मुसलमानों की ओर से उठ रही आवाजों में एक आवाज़ ऐसी थी जिसमें जिन्ना का खुला विरोध था। यह आवाज अब्दुल कय्यूम अंसारी की थी, जिन्होंने न सिर्फ जिन्ना के “दो राष्ट्र” मसौदे को ठुकराया था, बल्कि खुलेआम जिन्ना का विरोध करते हुए कांग्रेस को समर्थन भी दिया था।

अब्दुल क़य्यूम अंसारी के राजनीति में आने की कहानी बहुत रोचक है। जिसका वर्णन अली अनवर साहेब ने अपनी किताब “मसावत की जंग” मे कुछ इस प्रकार की है:- “बकौल खालिद अनवर अंसारी (क़य्यूम साहब के बड़े बेटे) उन्होंने एक बार अपने अब्बा से पूछा कि वह चुनावी राजनीति में कैसे आए? उन्होंने बताया कि १९३८ में पटना सिटी क्षेत्र की सीट के लिए उपचुनाव होने वाला था। उन्होंने सोचा क्यों न इस सीट से अपनी किस्मत आजमाई जाए। इस सीट के लिए उम्मीदवार तय करने हेतु बाहर से कई मुस्लिम लीग के नेता भी आये थे। स्थानीय नेता तो थे ही। पटना सिटी के नवाब हसन के घर पर प्रत्याशियों से इसके लिए दरखास्त ली जा रही थी। वह [अब्दुल कय्यूम अंसारी] भी दरखास्त देने वहां गये। दरखास्त जमा कर अभी वह दरवाजे तक लौटे ही थे कि अन्दर से कहकहे के साथ आवाज आयी कि अब जोलाहे भी एमएलए बनने का ख्वाब देखने लगे। इतना सुनना था कि वह फौरन कमरे के अन्दर गये और कहा कि ‘मेरी दरखास्त लौटा दीजिए, मुझे नहीं चाहिए आपका टिकट”!

(आपको बता दे की अली अनवर अंसारी के, जो राज्यसभा सांसद रहे हैं। राज्यसभा के सांसद रहने के अलावा उनकी एक बहुत बड़ी पहचान ये भी है कि उन्होनें “मसावात की जंग” जैसी बेहतरीन किताब लिखी है, जो देश के भर के मुस्लिमों से वह सवाल करती है, जो वह खुद से नहीं करना चाहते हैं।)

इस घटना को जैसे घटित ही इसलिए होना था ताकि अब्दुल क़य्यूम अंसारी सक्रिय रूप से राजनीति में आयें। मोमिन कॉन्फ्रेंस के उम्मीदवार के रूप में 1946 के चुनाव में उन्होंने जीत हासिल किया और पसमांदा समाज से आने वाले बिहार के पहले मंत्री भी बने।

पसमांदा आंदोलन के दूसरे इतिहास पुरुष हैं मौलाना अली हुसैन जिनका जन्म १५ अप्रैल, १८९० को हुआ था और् पसमान्दा समाज के उत्थान के लिए संघर्ष करते करते दिनांक ६ दिसम्बर, १९५३ को उनका देहावसान हो गया। उन्हें आसिम बिहारी के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। अब्दुल कय्यूम अंसारी के जैसे ही उन्होंने भी न सिर्फ मुल्क की आजादी के लिए जंग में हिस्सा लिया बल्कि मुसलमानों में पिछड़ों और अति पिछड़ी कौमों की आवाज़ भी बनने का काम किया।। उन्हें पसमांदा आंदोलन की बुनियाद डालने वाला माना जाता है। कलकता में मामूली सी नौकरी करने के साथ ही वह जंग-ए-आजादी और गरीब-मजलूम लोगों के लिए सियासत में भी सक्रिय थे। इसलिए सिर्फ २४ वर्ष की उम्र में ही १९१४ में मौलाना आसिम ने दारुल मुज़ाक़रा (चर्चा स्थल) आरंभ किया था, जो ज़िला नालंदा के मोहल्ला खाँसगंज में था। यहां उन्होंने एक पुस्तकालय का आगाज भी किया था। उनका मकसद था कि पसमांदा समाज के बच्चे पढाई-लिखाई के साथ ही उन सवालों पर बहस में भाग लें जो उनसे जुड़े थे।

इसके बाद जमीयतुल मोमिनीन नामक संगठन बनाने का श्रेय भी मौलाना आसिम को ही जाता है जो उन्होंने १९२० में शुरू किया था और इसके पहले अधिवेशन में मौलाना आज़ाद जैसे नेताओं ने हिस्सा लिया था।

पसमांदा और श्री नरेंद्र दामोदरदास मोदी:-
पसमांदा मुसलमानो के समाज का विकास वर्ष २०१४ के पश्चात सही अर्थो में आरम्भ हुआ, जब:-
१:- प्रधानमंत्री जन धन योजना के तहत इन के बैंक अकाउंट खोल दिए गए;
२:- प्रधानमंत्री आवास योजना के तहत लगभग इनको अपना घर मिला;
३:- किसान सम्मान निधि योजना के तहत इन के खातों में वर्ष के ६ हजार रुपए डाले गए।
४:- स्वच्छता अभियान के तहत शौचालय प्राप्त हुआ।
५:- उज्ज्वला योजना के अंतर्गत इन्हें गैस चूल्हे और सिलेंडर की प्राप्ति हुई।
६:-प्रधानमंत्री मुद्रा रोजगार योजना द्वारा इन्हें आसान किस्तों और आसान ब्याज दर पर बैंको से लोन प्राप्त हुए।
७:- इनके घर की बेटियों के द्वारा स्नातक कि उपाधि प्राप्त कर लेने के पश्चात शादी शगुन योजना के आधार पर ₹५१०००/- की प्रोत्साहन राशि प्रदान कि जाने लगी।
८:- नई मंजिल निर्माण योजना के तहत इनके अंदर कौशल विकास हेतु आर्थिक और समाजिक सहायता प्रदान कि गई।
९:- आयुष्मान योजना के अंतर्गत इन्हें ₹ ५ लाख तक का चिकित्सकीय बीमा प्रदान किया गया।
१०:-पूरे कोरोना काल के दौरान इन्हें मुफ्त राशन दिया गया।
११:- पसमांदा समाज के लोगों को राजनीती भागीदार बनने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया गया उदहारण के लिए उत्तर प्रदेश की सरकार में श्री दानिश अंसारी को मंत्री बनाया जाना, इसी दिशा में उठाया गया एक कदम था।
१२:- पसमांदा समाज के लोगों के आर्थिक, समाजिक और राजनितिक विकास के लिए अल्पसंख्यक आयोग के बजट में अभूतपूर्व वृद्धि की गई, जिसे आसानी से अल्पसंख्यक आयोग के वेबसाइट पर देखा जा सकता है।

और यही कारण है की आदरणीय श्री नरेंद्र दामोदरदास मोदीजी ने पसमांदा समाज के मुसलमानो से जुड़ने और उन्हें बराबरी का दर्जा दिलाने कि वकालत की और समुचित सलाह दिया।

Even as the Hindu community stood aghast at the sheer brutality of Kanhaiya Lal’s murder in Udaipur, Rajasthan, another life was claimed – Umesh Kolhe in Amravati, Maharashtra – by fanatics belonging to the same religion – Islam. Their unending bloodthirst still not quenched, radical Muslims stabbed Munish Bhardwaj in Haryana.

The horrific details of each of these incidents shook Hindus to the core. For the sole ‘crime’ of expressing support for a woman who quoted an Islamic scripture, Hindus lost their lives. And it would be naïve to believe the mob is done killing. Many more Hindus will die. Several heads will be chopped off. And this slow, discomforting reality that Hindu lives are supremely dispensable breaks Hindus from within, each day, everyday. Till they become so conditioned to murders that a new body count doesn’t even register anymore. Hindus sigh and move on.

The Clash of Incompatible Philosophies

A life system that developed in the landmass between the mighty Indian Ocean and the imposing Himalayas came to  be known as the Sanatan Dharma. The most defining tenet of Dharma is the idea of ‘Ekam sat viprah bahuda vadanti’ – There is a truth and wise people call it by different names. 

The idea that a person’s path to Moksha (salvation/transcendence) isn’t pre-defined but one that has to be explored. An explorer by his very nature, is open to all possibilities. What’s one more untrodden path? Such an inclusive, syncretic philosophy of life didn’t distinguish between means and methods to attain Nirvana. And hence, every tree, animal, river, mountain, rock came to symbolise a Dharmic person’s connection to his chosen path. Simply said – to each, his own.

This civilisation however, wasn’t a closed, siloed entity. No, it interacted with the outside world while proudly wearing its own Sanatan origins on the sleeves. Then two millennia back, things changed. And since then, they’ve never been the same. 2,000 years ago, Christianity was born. 1,400 years ago, Islam came into being. These faith systems had Abraham/Ibrahim at the helm and hence are known as Abrahamic faiths. There was something different about them. They preached exclusion, disdain and contempt of the ‘other’ (non-believer) from a point of superiority. The ‘other’ was derided as ungodly, barbaric, uncivilised and even sub-human. It was the ‘duty’ of every true believer to lead such people to the path of the ‘One True God’ (Jesus Christ /Allah).

The Teachings of Islam

Based on the philosophy of La Ilaha Ill Allah (There is no god but one and that one god is Allah) Islam preaches that the world  is divided into Dar-ul-Islam (house of Islam) and Dar-ul-Harb (house of non-believers). It is the declared duty of every true Muslim to strive towards converting Kafirs (non-Muslims) to Islam. Idol worship (Murti Pooja) is described as Haram (forbidden). Islamic scriptures also prescribe the punishment for the unintelligent sub-humans who refuse to convert – Jihad. If a Muslim succeeds in Jihad, he goes to Jannat (heaven). If he fails, he still goes to the famed destination as a Ghazi (warrior of Allah). Either way, there are greater incentives in death than in life.

The Conflicts Begin

When societies around the world came in contact with Christianity and Islam, they folded like cheese. The pride and sense of belonginess towards their indigenous faith systems was abandoned under incentives and extreme threats. Africa, once home to around 10,000 cultures and worship systems has only these two religions today. Same goes true for South America, North America, Europe, Australia and the Middle East.

 But Dharma, true to the idea of ‘Yata Dharmastato Jayah’ – where there  is Dharma, there is victory – resisted. Ever wondered why the expanse of Islamic domination stops at India? And beyond the Indian landmass, China, Japan and Korea were all able to preserve their native cultures? Let Maulana Khwaja Altaf Hussain Hali explain: “The audacious armada of the religion of Islam, which learnt no obstruction, which crossed all seven oceans, drowned when it reached the mouth of Ganga!” meaning – India fought back. 

But the costs were extremely high. Hundreds of genocides, exoduses, pogroms and mass murders by Islamist invaders weren’t able to extinguish this lone surviving beacon of hope. Yet, over 1200 years of contact with the Islamic world meant that India inevitably got vestiges of Islam in the form of converts, education system, cultural impact, societal issues among others. As historian Sita Ram Goel said in 1981 “ the death of Hindu society is no longer an eventuality which cannot be envisaged. This society is now  besieged by the same dark and deadly forces which have obliterated many ancient societies”.

New India, Old Problems, Insidious Machinations

In 1947, India became independent. The new democratic republic needed a government. That meant elections. Votes. Vote banks. And here began the sordid saga of unrelenting, shameless infantilization of the Muslims who were left in India, post partition. Nehru, Gandhi and others realised that elections could be won if Hindus were divided on caste lines and Muslims were consolidated as one big, sturdy voting bloc.

That meant keeping the Muslims poor and uneducated. Because poverty struck, illiterate folks are easy to manipulate. This, combined with the pre-programmed hatred for Kafirs made Muslims a strange, fearful community of frenzied, hate-filled people, ready to kill in the name of Allah. The constant mollycoddling also involved instilling a fear of the Hindu political leadership. Who helped? The Muslim theological leadership was co-opted. The Maulanas, Maulvis, Qazis, Imams and the Muslim institutions of learning – Madarasas were all assigned the task of indoctrinating Muslim – young and old.

Simultaneously, another insidious project was on in the newly independent nation. The likes of Maulana Azad, Humayun Kabir, Mohd. Chagla, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed and Nurul Hassan controlled the education ministry and wreaked havoc on India’s history. Dharma was shamed, Indian dynasties were entirely discarded from textbooks, Bharat was portrayed as an uncivilised wasteland which should forever be grateful to the Turks, Ghurids, Mamluks, Khiljis, Tughlaqs, Lodhis, Mughals, Afghans and every other Muslim invader who looted this land and murdered its people. Communists and Mullahs joined hands to realise the Islamisation of India – the last-standing pillar of resistance to Islam.

The Result 

The impact of this evil identity politics on the Muslim psyche was unbelievable. The Muslim society was never asked to reform. This soft bigotry of low expectations led them to believe that their kind was a special, entitled lot which deserves to be pampered, whose every wish needs to be taken as a command, whose evils and issues of concern – Triple talaq, Jihad, Nikah Halala, offering Namaz on the streets, blaring Azaan on loudspeakers five times a day – need to be not just ignored, but also rationalised. As Sita Ram Goel said “the Muslims were not just hell-bent on maintaining a separate existence, but made it a point to hate everything Hindu”.

This converted the Indian Muslims – 17% of India total population – into an inexplicable community, constantly high on a unique concoction of hatred for kafirs, stunningly orthodox beliefs, entitlement, penchant for violence and a murderous rage against everyone who does not follow their wishes (read orders). Any assessment of Islam was met with chants for like “Gustakh e Rasool ki ek hi saza, sar tan se juda” (beheading is the only punishment for insulting Prophet Mohammad).  These slogans soon became reality and everybody, including the protectors of free speech – our judiciary – indulged in victim-shaming indicating that being factual/rude/crass about Islam is a bigger crime than murder. And if you speak something unacceptable to Islamists, well then, you deserve to be beheaded/stabbed.

The Arrival Of Unapologetic Hindutva

The Hindu population of India meanwhile was forced to watch visuals of terrorists, secessionists, rabid Hindu hating communists rubbing shoulders with successive administrations including that of Manmohan Singh. These images were painfully infuriating. The then chief minister of Gujarat Narendra Modi tapped into this frustration and consequently, offered the troika of unapologetic Hindutva, the famed Gujarat model of good governance and promised to make the real India – resource deprived and ambitious – visible and audible. India believed him. He won.

Of the multiplicity of factors that contributed to Modi’s victory in 2014, social media has been at the top. For the first time, Indians could look beyond the TV channels, newspapers, magazines and radio – most of whom were shamelessly in bed with the Congress – for facts and news. Information dissemination was no longer in the hands of the editorial overlords and their political masters. What was felt, could now be spoken. Indian to Indian. Citizen to citizen.

And suddenly, the subdued majority – forever shamed for being Dharmic, ritualistic, patriotic, India-loving, exhausted by government interference – found its voice. They realised that unlike the India-bashing elites, everyday Indians despised the anti- Hindu, anti-India forces just as much as they themselves did.

The significance of this realisation cannot be overstated. For the first time in decades, the majority felt like majority. Whether Narendra Modi caused this phenomenon or simply was a catalyst is speculative. India was now wide-awake and vocal. And then began the pushback against the creeping Islamisation.

As Modi Government moved with stated motto of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas – the Muslims understood that their special treatment and privileges were about to take a hit. For a community whose post-independence memory was one of positive partiality, this new brand of Hindus – loud, confident and vocal – was unacceptable. There was enough combustible material in the environment now. Inevitably, explosions started. Take a moment to think – who was in the wrong? The forever mistreated Hindus who had finally found a voice or, well, the other side? 

Rationality meets Violence

Some controversies which became communally inflammable include the Hijab/Burqa issue (Karnataka), the middle-of-the-road Namaz issue (Haryana), PFI and ISIS recruitment (Kerela and Lakshadweep), CAA-NRC riots, Shaheen Bagh violence, protests against Article 370 amendment, stone pelting on Ramnavami procession, Delhi riots, Karauli, Jodhpur, individual instances of acid attacks, stabbing, beheading, arson, vandalism – the list of events that saw unwarranted and barbaric Muslim aggression is endless.

The most harmful folks in these situations are the leftist inteligencia who provide a smokescreen to the radical extremists by giving empty, meaningless lectures like ‘build bridges not walls’ and ‘humanity first’. The intention of such slogans is to deter the victims from taking one hard look at the problem and engaging in a brutally honest and factual assessment of Islam and its teachings.

The point where a lot of Hindus go wrong is in assessing the entire Islamic system based on a single Muslim friend/classmate/colleague  – “well my friend isn’t a Jihadi, perhaps the Hindus are being lunatics in expressing concerns”. What such naïve people forget is that guiding philosophy of 2.5 billion humans is exponentially bigger and far more potent than whatever juvenile connection they’ve formed in a few months of interaction. Veer Savarkar said as much  ‘The fact that the lambs promised to live peacefully had no bearing on the wolves’ decision to hunt the prey’. 

Educated, sophisticated Muslims and virtue-signalling deracinated Hindus provide the intellectual cover and rationalisation for such acts of barbarism – whenever they occur.

When Hindus and Muslims are described as followers of two mutually incongruent philosophies – one that talks about inclusion and acceptance whereas the other that talks of decimating the former – how are the two supposed to co-exist? Would you sleep peacefully knowing that your roommate has a dagger ready to be plunged in your throat? No right? Then how are the Hindus unreasonable if they express distrust? Or suspicion?

The Solution To A Never Ending Struggle

Hindus have to co-exist in this country with the Muslims. The second-highest Muslim population anywhere in the world lives in India. They too are equal citizens of this land. Have contributed to its defence forces, judiciary, economy and democracy at all levels. Solutions, however hard they may seem will have to be found.

Let me be clear. There are no easy solutions here. Whatever has to be done, will be done over a long period of time, during which -if past is any indication- a lot more of Hindu blood will be spilled. Still, if you’re a Muslim and have made it this far, let me address you first.

1.Support reform within your community. Change has to come from within. There are many Muslims who talk of abandoning ideas of the medieval times. Listen to them. Support them. Debate. Engage. But for god’s sake, reform. Abandon ideas like Jihad, Kafir, Ummah, women’s constant suppression and inculcate a sense of respect for the civilisation that has given you space, democracy, franchise and the ability to flourish.

2.Hindus do not hate you. They’ve lived with your forefathers for centuries. Conflict and peace, through it all. So get out of the silo of Hindu hatred and the desire to destroy the other’s faith. It’s a little hard to love when a sword is dangling around one’s neck.

3. Save your community from the grip of hardliner Maulanas. Their lives are secure. So are their children’s. Yours will be destroyed the moment you’re caught planning for Jihad. And you will be, sooner or later.

4. Stop sending your children to Madarasas where they’re indoctrinated into hatred and disgust for non-Muslims. Integrate with the modern education system.

5. Protect the few Muslim men and women who dare to speak against the hardliner clerics. They’re in mortal peril constantly. Help them, stand by them. 

For the Non-Muslims, here goes nothing:

1.       Ask for absolute reformation of the constitution. Drop the façade of secularism – it has been the biggest enemy of the Hindu civilisation.

2.       Demand tougher laws and sanctions. If they require legislative effort, push for it. If an administrative overhaul is needed, make it so.

3.       Judicial reforms have to be carried out to remove pendency of cases and to strike a fear in the hearts of potential criminals – as a deterrent. Judges also need to be told point blank that their courts are not moral science lectures. They’re judges in a constitutional court and not  Qazis in a Sharia court.

4.       Make an example of the criminals who’re caught. Knock them off every single social security benefit – ration card, free food, housing loans, business loans. Nothing.  There is no reason for the nation to subsidise terrorists’ families.  

5.       Demand a crackdown on the pan-India NGOs that fund and brainwash Muslims.

6.       Monitor madarasas. Permit only state approved curriculum and state-certified teachers in these places of learning. Install CCTV cameras to monitor activities. Remember, national security is paramount.

7.       Organise. Organise. Organise. The reason Muslims get away with their crimes is their ability too play the victim despite being the perpetrators. Fund movements for strengthening Hindus.

8.        Ask your governments to stop funding Madarasas / Mullahs altogether. You pay taxes to be spent on your welfare. Well, its channelled by state governments to fund such people/places of radical indoctrination which results in terrorists. Next, they attack and you pay more taxes for increased security. This vicious cycle is unending.

9.       Speak up. Remember, they will come for you, your friends or your family. Use your voice to raise awareness and to remove the veil of victimhood.

10.  Mobilise international support for this cause. Develop an ecosystem at all levels – United Nations, G20 nations, OECD nations, human rights conferences. Saturate it all. Do not let the sword-wielding community get away with cries of victimhood.

This list could be longer. I know that each of these steps will require hard-headed, ruthless implementation with clinical precision to slow down the problem in the near term aim for its eradication going forward.

The desire for moderate Islam is far-fetched. But then so was independence at one point. We got the latter, no reason we can’t achieve the former. Don’t let despondency and hopelessness overpower you. If the last remaining citadel of a Dharmic civilisation is to survive, remember what Chankaya said :

Dharmasya Moolam Arthah (Wealth creation is a must for dharma)

24-25 की उम्र में रिटायरमेंट के बाद, इन पैसों से कोई बिजनेस शुरू कर लीजिएगा या नहीं तो इंडियन आर्मी की ट्रेनिंग के साथ होने से हर क्षेत्र में प्राथमिकता रहेगी। आर्मी का अनुशासन आपके बहुत काम आएगा। लाइफ जैसी अभी चल रही है, उससे बेहतर तय है। तो आप अग्निपथ योजना के विरोध का हिस्सा मत बनिए बल्कि ये समझिए कि आपके और देश के भविष्य के लिए एक सुनहरा अवसर है।

अपना भविष्य सुरक्षित कीजिए और सोचिए 24 के उम्र में 0 से आर्मी ट्रेनिंग के साथ कुल मिला कर 11 लाख रूपये सैलरी के रूप में मिलने वाला पूरा पैसा अगर आप ख़त्म भी कर देते हैं तो रिटायरमेंट के वक़्त मिलने वाला 11 लाख 71 हज़ार रुपिया कम नहीं है।

सेना सिर्फ रोजगार का साधन नही है। रोजगार के लिए बहुत विकल्प है और न ही हर कोई सैनिक ही बन सकता है। अनुशासनहीन वैसे भी सेना के लिए अयोग्य है अग्निपथ कोई निमंत्रण पत्र नही है ये वास्तव में आग में चलने का माद्दा रखने वाले वीरों के लिए ही बनाया गया है। अग्निपथ के माध्यम से चुने हुए 25% अग्निवीर सेना के मोती होंगे बाकी के 75% जिनमे माद्दा होगा देश के अर्धसैनिक बलों, सिविल सेवाओं में प्राथमिकता पाएंगे।
मतलब देश की बाकी सरकारी नौकरियाँ भी धीरे धीरे जवाईयो से मुक्त होकर कर्मठ लोगो से सुसज्जित होंगी।

अग्निपथ योजना क्या है

1:- उम्र 17 वर्ष 6 माह से 21 वर्ष

2:- योग्यता सीनियर सेकेंडरी

3:- पहले की तरह फिजिकल टेस्ट

4:- सेवा अवधि 4 वर्ष

5:- प्रशिक्षण अवधि 6 माह

6:- प्रथम वर्ष वेतन 30 हजार रुपये महीना जिसमें 9 हजार की कटौती होगी, मतलब 21 हजार प्रति माह मिलेंगे, द्वितीय वर्ष 33000 रुपये मिलेगे जिसमे 10000 रुपये प्रति माह कटौती होगी, 23 हजार प्रति माह मिलेंगे, तृतीय वर्ष 36 हजार रुपये मिलेंगे, जिसमे 11000 कटौती होकर 25000 हजार रुपये प्रति माह मिलेंगे, चौथे वर्ष 40 हजार रुपये प्रति माह मिलेंगे, जिसमे से 12000 रुपये महीना कटेंगे, 28 हजार रुपये प्रति माह मिलेंगे।

7:- 4 साल सेवा अवधि बार रिटायरमेंट पर सेवा निधि पैकेज बतोर 11 लाख 71 हजार रुपये मिलेंगे।

8:- 4 साल की सेवा अवधि उपरांत योग्यता मापदंडों के हिसाब से 25 % जवानों को स्थायी रूप से सेना में नियुक्ति दे दी जाएगी, बाकी 75 % जवानों को अग्निवीर कौशल प्रमाणपत्र दिया जाएगा, जिसके बेस पर प्राइवेट कम्पनियों में जॉब की प्राथमिकता मिलेगी, साथ ही
खुद का व्यवसाय करने के लिए मिनिमम ब्याज दरों पर नॉन सिक्योर लोन दिलाया जाएगा।

9:- तीनों सेनाओं में प्रतिवर्ष 50 हजार जवानो की भर्ती की जाएगी,!!

किसी के बहकावे में मत आना…. बहुत ही बेहतरीन योजना है, कुछ सेफ्टी डिपार्टमेंट को छोड़ दे तो 22, 23 वर्ष से तो बेरोजगार रोजगार के लिए अप्लाई करना शुरू करते है, जबकि अग्निपथ योजना में तो 18, 19 में लगा बच्चा 22, 23 में तो फ्री हो जाएगा, मतलब बाद में वो अपने खर्चे पर अच्छी जॉब की तैयारी कर सकता है। बच्चे अक्सर 18, 20, 22 की उम्र में ही गलत संगत मे पड़कर भटक जाते है, जबकि इस उम्र में तो वो देश सेवा कर रहा होगा। फिजिकल फिट रहेगा, आर्थिक
परेशानी नही होगी, इसलिए मित्रों भारत सरकार बहुत ही कारगर योजना लेकर आई है। ज्यादा से ज्यादा युवा फायदा उठाए ।

अग्नि पथ द्वारा रोज़गार , ट्रेनिंग और पैसा देने की बजाय 4 साल की ट्रेनिंग का एक कोर्स शुरू किया जाता, जिसकी फीस 5 लाख रूपया होती और 4 साल बाद हाइएस्ट रैंक लाने वाले 25 प्रतिशत को सेना की भर्ती में प्राथमिकता का वादा होता तो विरोध करने वाले लोग एडमिशन करा रहे होते और उस पैसे से देशहित के अनेक कार्य हो सकते थे …

आज जहां देश में हर काम की योजना को विरोध के रूप में खड़ा करके देश में अशांति फैलाने वाले गद्दारों से अब सावधान होने की जरूरत है पहचानने की जरूरत है।।

A top-grade left liberal/communist is one who disrespects openly every tradition and religion except for Islamist and Islam. In India it is so stark when it is to do with Hinduism. The most recent example is Mohua Maitra, the Trinamool M P. Another suitable name to quote is Leena Manimekalai, a Toronto based filmmaker. As a liberal, they think it is their duty to utmost disrespect and degrade Hindu deities.

The two are public figures and celebrities. They should have therefore had a minimum sense of sensitivity and responsibility to not hurt the feelings of a religious community. They are much more accountable than any ordinary citizen.

Take the example of Nupur Sharma. She cited the Islamic scriptures. What she said is written in their holy books. Yet she was not spared. She was hauled up in public, press and electronic media. She was rebuked, condemned and expelled. Multiple FIRs have been filed against her. Supreme Court had very very strong words against her although it can be disputed whether they had the jurisdiction to say so since the plea before the Court was limited to only the clubbing of the multiple FIRs in a single court in Delhi.

Is our country heading towards chaotic strife, between the different religions? There is some recurrence of the sense of mutual suspicion that had led to the country being partitioned, once before. As my friend CM Pillai has so beautifully put it: The remedy perhaps lies in the hands of the self-styled liberals, who cannot take the conservative Hindus for granted any longer…they should, for the common good, not seek to harvest political brownie points, by passing comments against their own religion, while professing to be Hindus, citing some rationale or the other… This intellectual self-flagellation must stop asap…. there’s nothing intellectual, about stoking communal fires…

There have also been multiple death threats to Nupur Sharma. Two Nupur Sharma supporters have been brutally murdered and their assailants caught by police/NIA. This is clearly a case of Islamic terrorism. It may be worthwhile to recall in this connection the various measures taken by French Govt. when a similar beheading by Islamists occurred on 16th October 2020.   • within 2 days, National Council deported 231 Muslims out of France

  • Govt also shut down 50+ organisations that were allegedly supporting radical Islam
  • Macron announced that “Sheikh Yassin Collective” would also be dissolved
  • An Algerian, who called the attacker a martyr, on social media, was immediately arrested, sent to prison for 6 months, and was deported to Algeria & banned from entering France
  • 2 15 & 17 years old were arrested for praising the attack on social media
  • A bill against Islamic terrorism was passed in Feb
  • Govt branches were authorised to shut down mosques & organisations if those were found preaching Radical Islam

All these were brought into effect, just into few weeks of the incident. A lot of Islamic countries including Turkey Started campaigns to boycott French Goods. PM Macron, famously ridiculed Erdogan and other Islamic countries, saying France will not be dictated by such fanaticism or at the whims & fancies of such Govts.

Would GOI think along these lines? I am not asking all these measures to be necessarily taken, but that terrorist activities must be dealt with sternly.

‘अग्निपथ योजना’ के विरोध में आगजनी तोड़फोड़ हिंसा क्यों

भारत सरकार ने देश के युवाओं को रोजगार देने के उद्देश्य से हाल ही में 14 जून मंगलवार को एक नयी पहल करने का कार्य किया है। जिसके अंतर्गत भारत सरकार ने सेना में ‘अग्निपथ योजना’ के माध्यम से युवाओं की भर्ती करने की घोषणा करने का कार्य किया है, इस ‘अग्निपथ योजना’ की घोषणा केन्द्रीय रक्षा मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह व तीनों सेना के प्रमुखों ने एक प्रेसवार्ता में की थी। भारत सरकार की महत्वाकांक्षी योजना ‘अग्निपथ योजना’ के तहत केंद्र सरकार का प्लान है कि वह देश की सेनाओं में चार वर्ष के लिए युवाओं की भर्ती करके उनको अपने पैरों पर खड़ा करते हुए उनके जीवन को अनुशासित बनाएं।

केन्द्रीय रक्षा मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह ने महत्वाकांक्षी ‘अग्निपथ योजना’ के बारे में कहा था कि- “नौजवानों को सेना में सेवा का मौक़ा दिया जाएगा, ये योजना देश की सुरक्षा को मज़बूत करने और हमारे युवाओं को मिलिट्री सर्विस का अवसर देने के लिए लाई गई है। उन्होंने कहा कि इस योजना से नौकरी के मौक़े बढ़ेंगे और सेवा के दौरान अर्जित हुनर और अनुभव उन्हें विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में नौकरी भी उपलब्ध कराएगा।”

वैसे इस योजना में कम उम्र के युवाओं को सेना में भर्ती करके चार वर्ष की सेवा के बाद ही रिटायर करने का प्रावधान किया गया है, नौकरी के बाद उन्हें सेवा निधि पैकेज दिया जाएगा और इन जवानों का नाम ‘अग्निवीर’ होगा, सरकार ने इस योजना की घोषणा में दुर्घटना या मृत्यु की स्थिति में ‘अग्निवीरों’ को विशेष सहायता पैकेज दिए जाने की भी बात कही है। वहीं इस योजना में भर्ती किए गए जवानों में से भविष्य में सिर्फ़ 25 प्रतिशत को सेना में स्थाई रूप से रखा जाने का प्रावधान है, कहीं ना कहीं इस बेहद महत्वपूर्ण बिंदु के चलते ही पिछले कुछ दिनों से देश के विभिन्न हिस्सों के लाखों युवाओं में ‘अग्निपथ योजना’ के प्रति बड़े पैमाने पर आक्रोश व्याप्त है। जिसके चलते ही सेना में जाने का सपना संजोए देश में युवाओं के एक वर्ग ने ‘अग्निपथ योजना’ को विस्तारपूर्वक सही ढंग से समझें बिना ही, किसी भी प्रकार की लाभ-हानि की गणना किये बिना ही, देश के विभिन्न हिस्सों में बड़े पैमाने पर तोड़फोड़, आगजनी करके बहुत ही जबरदस्त ढंग से हंगामा बरपाने का कार्य कर दिया, जो अभी तक जारी है।

वैसे आज की परिस्थितियों में धरातल पर देखा जाये तो आधी-अधूरी जानकारी व उकसाने के चलते ही भारत सरकार की महत्वाकांक्षी ‘अग्निपथ योजना’ के खिलाफ सेना की तैयारी कर रहे लाखों अभ्यर्थियों में बहुत जबरदस्त रोष व्याप्त हो गया है। जिसके चलते देश के विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में बड़े पैमाने पर विरोध प्रदर्शन चल रहे हैं, कुछ उपद्रवियों ने इस विरोध प्रदर्शन में  तोड़फोड़, आगजनी व लूटपाट करके छात्रों के इस आंदोलन को हिंसक बनाने का कार्य कर दिया है। वैसे तो इन सभी प्रदर्शनकारी छात्रों को यह ध्यान रखना चाहिए कि देश में तोड़फोड़ आगजनी व लूटपाट करेंगे और फिर भविष्य में  “अग्निवीर” कहलाएंगे यह आज के समय में संभव नहीं है, क्योंकि आज देश में सीसीटीवी कैमरा, मोबाइल फोन व‌ कैमरा आदि पर उपद्रवियों के हंगामे की रिकार्डिंग की हर थाने क्षेत्र में भरमार है, आज के समय में उपद्रवियों की पहचान तकनीक के माध्यम से  संभव नहीं है, जिस पर सरकार कार्य अवश्य करेगी।

लेकिन इस विरोध प्रदर्शन के पूरे घटनाक्रम का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण विचारणीय तथ्य यह है कि आखिरकार ‘अग्निपथ योजना’ को जिस वक्त तक देश के दिग्गज सैन्य विशेषज्ञ भी नहीं समझ पाये थे, उस समय ही इस योजना के विरोध करने के लिए छात्रों को आखिरकार किसने बरगलाने का कार्य किया था, हालांकि देर सबेर पुलिस की विस्तृत जांच में इसकी परतें अवश्य खुल जायेंगी। वैसे देखा जाये तो आज भी छात्रों को इस ‘अग्निपथ योजना’ के बारे में ज्यादा कुछ मालूम नहीं है, लेकिन फिर भी वह हिंसक विरोध प्रदर्शन करके अपने ही वतन की अनमोल संपत्तियों को अपने ही हाथों से ना जाने क्यों नुक़सान पहुंचाने में व्यस्त हैं। सूत्रों के अनुसार अभी तक रेलवे ने सिर्फ अपने दो जोन के नुकसान के आंकलन का डेटा तैयार किया है, यह डेटा सिर्फ शुक्रवार को हुए नुकसान के आधार पर है, जिसके हिसाब से सिर्फ दो जोन में एक ही दिन में रेलवे को 120 करोड़ रूपए का नुकसान उपद्रवियों के कर दिया, ऐसे में सबसे अधिक उपद्रव वाले क्षेत्रों में 5 दिनों के नुकसान का अगर औसत निकालें तो रेलवे का नुकसान 600 करोड़ रूपए के लगभग आता है।

हालांकि यह आंकलन रेलवे द्वारा तैयार किए गए सिर्फ दो ज़ोन के डेटा को ही आधार मानकर  किया गया है, वैसे रेलवे के वास्तविक नुकसान का अनुमान उपद्रव शांत होने के बाद ही पता चल पायेगा। लेकिन इन उपद्रवी तत्वों के यह सोचना चाहिए कि एक तरफ तो तुम देश पर प्राण न्यौछावर करने वाले सैनिक बनने का सपना देख रहे हो, वहीं दूसरी तरफ तुम अपने ही हाथों से देश की हजारों करोड़ रूपए की अनमोल संपत्ति को आग के हवाले कर रहे हो, आखिर यह कैसी देशभक्ति है। देश के 13 राज्यों में ‘अग्निपथ योजना’ को लेकर भयंकर बवाल मचा हुआ है, जगह-जगह हुई पत्थरबाजी, हिंसा, तोड़फोड़ और आगजनी की तस्वीरों ने दुनिया में भारत की छवि को खराब करने व  अर्थव्यवस्था को भारी नुक़सान पहुंचाने का कार्य किया है।

वहीं ‘अग्निपथ योजना’ को लेकर के जल, थल और वायु सेना के अधिकारियों ने साझा प्रेसवार्ता का आयोजन 19 जून को किया, जिस प्रेसवार्ता में सैन्य मामलों के विभाग के अवर सचिव लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल अनिल पुरी ने ‘अग्निपथ योजना’ का बचाव करते हुए, इस योजना का अग्निवीरों व देश को होने वाले लाभ गिनाए, उन्होने इस योजना को सशस्त्र बलों के तीनों अंगों के उम्र घटाने का माध्यम बताया और कहा कि उम्र का यह विषय लंबे समय से विचाराधीन था यहां तक कि करगिल समीक्षा समिति ने भी इस पर टिप्पणी की थी। लेफ्टिनेंट जनरल पुरी ने कहा कि सरकार ‘अग्निपथ योजना’ को लागू करने की दिशा में आगे बढ़ रही है। उन्होंने देश के युवाओं से अपना विरोध प्रदर्शन खत्म करने की अपील की।

उन्होंने हिंसा आगजनी करने वाले उपद्रवियों को सीधी चेतावनी देते हुए कहा कि ‘अग्निपथ योजना’ वापस नहीं ली जाएगी। उन्होंने कहा कि सेना की नींव अनुशासन है, जिसमें तोड़फोड़ की कोई जगह नहीं है, हर एक शख्स जो हमसे अग्निवीर में जुड़ेगा, उसको अंडरटेकिंग/शपथ देनी होगी कि उसने कहीं प्रोटेस्ट में हिस्सा नहीं लिया था, तोड़फोड़ या आगजनी नहीं की थी। सभी का पुलिस वेरिफिकेशन कराया जाएगा और अगर किसी के नाम एफआईआर दर्ज मिलती है, तो वह सेना में शामिल नहीं हो सकता है। लेकिन अफसोस इस सबके बाद भी लगातार देश के विभिन्न हिस्सों में उपद्रव जारी है, एक तरफ तो चंद युवा देश पर मर मिटने के लिए तैयार बैठे हैं, वहीं कुछ युवा उपद्रव करके अपने ही हाथों से अपने ही चमन को आग लगाएं बैठे हैं।

जबकि पिछले कुछ वर्षों से देश जिस तरह के बेहद तनावपूर्ण हालात से आयेदिन गुज़र रहा है, उस तरह की स्थिति में देश को विकास के पथ पर अग्रसर करने के लिए तुरंत ही मेहनतकश लोगों व अमन चैन के साथ एकजुटता वाले माहौल की तत्काल सख्त जरूरत है‌, लेकिन कुछ लोग हैं जो देश में शांतिप्रिय माहौल नहीं चाहते, वह हर बात का बड़ा बतंगड़ बनाकर देश को नुक़सान पहुंचाने के लिए उतावले बैठे रहते हैं, आज हम लोगों व छात्रों को भी इस साज़िश को समय रहते समझना होगा और अगर सरकार के किसी कदम से सहमत नहीं हैं तो तोड़फोड़, आगजनी व लूटपाट का रस्ता ना अपनाकर, गांधीवादी तरीके से शांतिपूर्ण ढंग अपना विरोध जताकर देश विरोधी लोगों की साज़िशों को देश व समाज के हित में नाकाम करना होगा।

I faintly recollect a passage from Irving Wallace’s Seven Minutes (a favourite author during our teens). A book is being tried for obscenity and proscription. The cross-section of the society testifying for obscenity and pleading for ban includes an honourable housewife. As she takes the stand, representative of good American wives, the defence lawyer reads out to her from a book with covered jacket. As he reads out her face gets taut, then livid, and she screams how dare you read out such smut to me. Madam, the lawyer responds, I was reading from the Holy Book…. Thunderous silence.

The common man is unscientific and irreligious, said Bernard Shaw. All hell broke loose after Nupur Sharma’s response in kind to a provocation in a TV debate was resurrected days later by a website funded from abroad. Her own explanation and apology were ignored. One can even understand, rather helplessly, the way the incited mobs went about their usual business of arson, incendiary, vandalism, death threats, killings, not knowing, not caring to know, what was said, why it was said.

One would have thought, nonetheless, in a cultured, civil society, with an impartial intelligentsia, a team of scriptural clerisy and exegetes would have been immediately formed to anatomise Nupur’s words and conclude if indeed there was blasphemy. Unfortunately, however, almost globally now, in all matters concerning Islam, no informed debate or meaningful discussion is possible. Nupur Sharma was hanged without being able to offer her defence. Nobody wanted it, because they feared it.

The moment must have been apposite to define and codify what is blasphemy in the Indian context. Of course, in India calling Sri Ram a drunkard, taking his statue in procession while beating it with chappals, the evangelists hurling abuses, equating Hindu gods with Satan (even by a lady teacher in a Government school in TN to her students), abhorrent comments on Lord Nataraja and Lord Krishna, portrayal of Ma Kaali with a cigarette, insinuating her to be a lesbian, et al do not constitute blasphemy. That privilege belongs to a select few. Even in this incident, Nupur Sharma was only responding to continuous obnoxious, odious comments about Lord Shiva, clearly a retort for a preceding blasphemy.

In the maelstrom of orgy of violence that followed, however, the crux of the issue was buried four fathoms deep. Propensity and capacity for violence set the narrative and soon enough Islamic countries, paragons of religious pluralism and tolerance, jumped into the band wagon. The issue took on a dynamism of its own and swiftly snowballed into a foreign relations crisis. We would have done ourselves proud, if we had looked at them in the eye and told them, look, we have an independent, functional judiciary, which will take appropriate action if in fact blasphemy has been committed. But such is the power and solidarity of the Islamic countries, there was hardly any room for reasoned response. Quatar, believed to be a bank-roller of Jihadi outfits, led the way.

Soon enough, predictably, epithets started flying – loose tongue, motor mouth, rabid hate-monger, fringe element (the unkindest cut of all), you name it!

She is none of it by a long shot. She is a tigress, who, in a sharp departure from the customary timid, self-effacing Hindu trait- swallowing humiliations in silence, gave back in equal measure.

So, she was sacrificed on the altar of mollification. The party distanced itself. Even the section of media generally not antagonistic to BJP disowned her. She was judged on the ferocious reaction of fanatics and not on the merits of the issue.

Plethora of cases were filed against her throughout the country. Strangely, not a single one was filed for the obnoxious remarks on Siva Lingam by a fellow panelist. Her plea to the Supreme Court for clubbing of multiple FIRs into a single jurisdiction, a legal entitlement under Article 20(2) safeguarding against double jeopardy and SC’s own judgement that subjecting an individual to numerous proceedings on the basis of the same cause is violative of fundamental rights, elicited a fusillade of denunciation, albeit obiter dicta, holding her singly responsible for the wanton violence witnessed in the country and the slaying of at least two persons.

The remit is always to examine the issue on its own merits dispassionately, insulated from possible consequences.  In one stroke, extenuating circumstances attended the arson, destruction of public property and homicide. If Nupur’s comments were to be responsible for the frenzy and thuggery and slayings that ensued, does it not necessarily follow, on the same analogy. that her own comments, provoked in turn by a fellow panelist’s sacrilegious comments on Lord Shiva, become legit and he be held equally responsible for the aftermath?

And we were all under the impression that regardless of the severity of provocation, resort to violence is impermissible in a country with Rule of Law, where adequate legal avenues are available for redressal of grievances. The entire liberal gaggle shied away from any condemnation of the violence.

Resort to mindless violence in similar circumstances is not on display for the first time. To cite a recent representative example, when rumours did the rounds in Bangalore of a certain MLA’s son having posted derogatory remarks on Prophet Mohammed in Facebook, within no time, thousands thronged the MLA’s house, set fire to vehicles, pelted stones, called for the head of the offender who had to flee, all for certain unknown FB comments that few had seen or read. The mob had to be propitiated with unconditional apologies.

As to Prophet Mohammed’s marital life, respected Islamic scholars, numerous official Islamic websites, provide authentic information on the 12 wives Prophet Mohamed is said to have had (including, according to William Muir, Zeinab, wife of his adopted son Zeid, a marriage ratified later by a revelation). And also, the Coptic Christian teen Mary, one of the two girls sent as a gift from the Byzantine ruler of Alexandria. According to some sources he later freed her from slavery after she bore him a child, and married her.

As regards Ayesha, the scholars have explained that according to Islam, marriage with a girl who has attained puberty can be consummated and in the hot desert conditions girls attain puberty at a much early age. All this information is in public domain.  The caveat that all this has to be seen in the context of social and cultural ethos prevalent at that time and age and not judged by present day standards, is in order here (applicable in general to all scriptures and ancient religious texts).  That does not in any way alter factual, unbowdlerized history.

India’s failure is the failure of intelligentsia, called out V S Naipaul. From the way, Nupur Sharma has been knee-hauled over shark infested waters, the conclusion is ineluctable that guaranteed outrage and congenital violence in response to unverified provocations will set the media at a distance and sideline the core issues in a desperate bid to restore normalcy. Even that is understandable, but what is not is the intelligentsia and (otherwise quite vocal) conscience keepers steering clear of scabrous issues when it concerns Islam. That does not speak well of our moral courage.

पिछले महीने भाजपा की अगुवाई वाले राष्ट्रीय जनतांत्रिक गठबंधन ने भारत के अगले राष्ट्रपति पद के उम्मीदवार के तौर पर झारखंड की पूर्व राज्यपाल द्रौपदी मुर्मू के नाम की घोषणा की। मूलतः ओडिशा के एक साधारण आदिवासी परिवार से आने वाली द्रौपदी मुर्मू अगर यह चुनाव जीत जाती हैं, तो वे इस देश की पहली आदिवासी राष्ट्रपति बनेंगी।

उनके गृह राज्य ओडिशा की सत्ताधारी बीजद, मायावती की बसपा, पंजाब के शिरोमणि अकाली दल तथा जगन मोहन रेड्डी की वाईएसआर कांग्रेस के समर्थन के बाद, उनकी जीत महज औपचारिकता ही रह गई है। कुछ विश्लेषकों का मानना है कि झारखंड की सत्ताधारी झामुमो भी, आदिवासी उम्मीदवार के नाम पर उनका समर्थन कर सकती है। भाजपा तथा एनडीए की अन्य पार्टियाँ उनके बहाने कांग्रेस को घेरने की कोशिश में लगी हुई हैं, जिसने हमेशा आदिवासी समाज से वोट तो लिया, लेकिन उनके नुमाइंदों को उचित प्रतिनिधित्व नहीं दिया।

लेकिन क्या द्रौपदी मुर्मू को राष्ट्रपति बनवाने के पीछे सिर्फ यही मकसद है? सच तो यह है कि भाजपा द्रौपदी मुर्मू की उम्मीदवारी के सहारे देश भर के आदिवासी वोट बैंक को साधने की कोशिश में लगी हुई है। अगर राष्ट्रीय स्तर पर देखें, तो देश में अनुसूचित जनजाति की आबादी 8.9% (10 करोड़ से ज्यादा) है तथा उनके लिए 47 लोकसभा और 487 विधानसभा सीटें रिजर्व हैं।

कुछ महीनों बाद, गुजरात में चुनाव होने वाले हैं। गुजरात में करीब 15% आबादी आदिवासियों की है तथा उनके लिए 26 सीटें रिजर्व हैं। इसके अलावा तकरीबन 35 से 40 सीटों पर आदिवासी वोटर असरदार हैं। कुछ समय पहले तक, इन सीटों पर कांग्रेस का दबदबा हुआ करता था। तो कहीं ना कहीं, राष्ट्रपति पद पर एक आदिवासी महिला का होना, भाजपा के लिए खासा लाभदायक साबित हो सकता है।

लेकिन पिछले ढाई दशकों से गुजरात की सत्ता पर काबिज भाजपा का लक्ष्य शायद इस से कहीं आगे है। इस साल पहले पंजाब और दो दिन पहले महाराष्ट्र की सत्ता गंवा चुकी कांग्रेस अब राजस्थान तथा छत्तीसगढ़ में ही सत्ता में बची है। इनमें से छत्तीसगढ़ आदिवासी बहुल राज्य है तो वहीं राजस्थान में भी कई सीटों पर आदिवासी वोटरों का बोलबाला है। ज्ञात हो कि दो सौ विधानसभा सीटों वाले राजस्थान में 25 ऐसी विधानसभा सीटें हैं जो एसटी वर्ग के लिए आरक्षित की गई हैं, इसके अलावा पिछले चुनावों के दौरान 8 गैर आरक्षित सीटों पर भी एसटी वर्ग के विधायकों ने जीत हासिल की थी। कुल मिलाकर, राजस्थान में तकरीबन 40 सीटें ऐसी हैं जहां आदिवासी वोटर चुनावों में अहम रोल निभाते हैं। हालांकि राजस्थान में अधिकांशतः आदिवासियों को कांग्रेस का परंपरागत वोट बैंक ही माना जाता रहा है, लेकिन माना जा रहा है कि देश की पहली आदिवासी महिला राष्ट्रपति के चुने जाने के बाद हवा का रूख बदल सकता है।

दूसरी ओर, छत्तीसगढ़ की 90 में से 29 सीटें आदिवासी बहुल इलाकों से हैं, जो उनके लिए आरक्षित हैं। यहाँ आदिवासी वोटरों के सहारे भाजपा 15 सालों तक सत्ता में बनी रही, लेकिन 2018 के चुनावों में आदिवासियों के लिए सुरक्षित 29 सीटों में से भाजपा को महज तीन सीटें मिली थी। इन चुनावों में, इनमें से 25 सीटें जीत कर कांग्रेस सत्ता में आ गई।

राजस्थान और छत्तीसगढ़ के अलावा अगले साल भाजपा द्वारा शासित मध्य प्रदेश में भी चुनाव होने को हैं, जहाँ मतदाताओं में 21.5 प्रतिशत आदिवासी आबादी है और 15.6 प्रतिशत दलित हैं, लेकिन 2018 में इन समुदायों की बड़ी आबादी ने भाजपा को वोट नहीं दिया था। इस राज्य की 230 विधानसभा सीटों में से 87 विधानसभा सीटों पर आदिवासी वोटरों का सीधा असर है, जिनमें से 47 सीटें उनके लिए आरक्षित हैं। इसके अलावा झारखंड भी एक आदिवासी बहुल राज्य है तथा यहाँ भाजपा का खासा दबदबा भी रहा है, तो निश्चित तौर पर, पार्टी को यहाँ भी इस कदम का फायदा मिलेगा।

भाजपा का मकसद राजस्थान और छत्तीसगढ़ में कांग्रेस से सत्ता हथियाना है, जिसके बाद वह सिर्फ झारखंड व तमिलनाडु सरीखे राज्यों में सत्ताधारी गठबंधन की जूनियर पार्टनर ही रह जाएगी।

अगर भाजपा यह करने में सफल हो पाई, तो यह प्रधानमंत्री मोदी के “कांग्रेस-मुक्त भारत” के सपने के साकार होने जैसा होगा। उसके बाद, अगले एकाध दशक तक, शायद भाजपा को चुनौती देने वाला राष्ट्रीय-स्तर का कोई दल नहीं बचेगा।
