Analysis of the US-China trade war: India would benefit

0

With the ongoing trade negotiations between the US and China and the threats by President Trump, global stock markets took a tumble this week. President Trump raised tariffs on $200 billion worth imports from China to 20% from 10%. Further, he has raised tariffs to 25% on imports worth $325 billion, which were previously not taxed. The decision was communicated over a series of tweets by President Trump and prompted by China backtracking on earlier commitments and causing deliberate delays in negotiations.

President Trump has previously accused China of employing mercantilist trade practices, which widens the US trade deficit with China. The trade negotiations between China and the US will go on longer than anticipated as both sides failed to reach an agreement on Friday. A trade war could potentially reduce China’s growth by 1.6-2 percentage points and the Chinese government has lowered its growth target to the range of 6-6.5 % in 2019. As per the latest report, US trade deficit has hit an eight-month low on account of reduced imports from China.

China has expressed that it will retaliate by taking the necessary countermeasures, which are not particularly clear at the moment. It is possible that China may retaliate with tariffs on American exports or suspend contracts of US industries. Leading newspapers in China have run columns reassuring citizens that the economic fundamentals of the country are strong enough to weather the trade war. There is little indication of China conceding to American demands. Both presidents face domestic pressure to maintain face, even as the industries are beginning to feel the pinch.

As a result of the trade war, industries are looking to shift base to other Asian countries. Most recently, Brooks Running moved production from China to Vietnam. It is expected that 8000 jobs will be moved to Vietnam. Previous casualties of trade war include Nidec, Hasbro, Ricoh, Steve Madden, Kerry Logistics Network and Sourcify, who have moved their supply chain networks to other countries in Asia including Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Bangladesh.

US-China trade war effect on India

Indian exports are set to increase by 3.5% due to the trade war, according to the latest study by UNCTAD. The trade war has inadvertently provided opportunities to countries that have competitive industries. Apple is due to move production from China and expand in India, with the company preferring low-cost labour and staying out of harm’s way in the ongoing trade war. China’s retaliatory tariffs on American goods means that China has to look to other markets such as India for importing cotton, groundnut, rapeseed oil meal and soya bean. India’s trade deficit decreased by $10 billion in FY19, owing to lower imports. Exports to China have increased by 31% while imports have lessened by 8% in FY19. More recently, India and China have agreed to settle their market access issue “expeditiously”. India hopes to reduce its trade deficit with China, by seeking greater market access for its goods and services.

The trade war with America comes at a time when Chinese economy has experienced its slowest growth in over 2 decades. The trade negotiations between the two countries were expected to face several deadlocks this week, with both sides adamant not to give in to pressure tactics. It is interesting to note that there are simultaneous developments in the South China Sea. Two US warships sailed near the disputed islands claimed by China in the South China Sea. This is the third freedom of navigation operation conducted in this region by the US to challenge excessive maritime claims and maintain access to waterways as per international law.

China expressed its strong dissatisfaction, stating that the warships had entered without permission and violated China’s sovereignty in the region. Current trade negotiations are part of American strategy to contain China, which has emerged as a potential threat to American hegemony. It remains to be seen if there is a deal in the offing and what retaliatory measures will be taken by China to respond to the recent tariffs. President Xi Jinping no doubt has a challenge in ensuring ‘peaceful rise’ and ‘peaceful development’ as America attempts to encircle China economically and militarily.

Name Change or Identity Change?

0

When I came to US, I became the target of name-manipulation. But it was acceptable, because I did not consider anyone to pronounce my name correctly. I would shorten my name, let my teachers pronounce it in any manner they wanted, and even accepted my initials as my name. But at home, my parents still called me by my name, although it was long to my friends. I accepted my initials as my “common name” as others Anglicized their names. My other immigrant friends also accepted this norm because some wanted to “fit-in”, some didn’t like their name, and others because it was easier.

This incident draws parallel to the name change policies that is oft-criticized by the media in India. Here there are two differences: the names are names of cities and states, and the name is not a foreign immigrant.

Although this has become a hot-button topic of political conversation, this has existed since the independence. At the dawn of independence, the name changes included changes to state names such as Madras State to Tamil Nadu and Madhya Bharat to Madhya Pradesh. This is in the early 60s to 70s, long before the idea of Yogi Adityanath was conceived by even his parents. Slight changes took place before he or even the BJP came to power when Uttaranchal became Uttarakhand, Bombay became Mumbai and my beloved city, Calcutta became Kolkata.

Why were these names changed? Or a more apt question would be: why were these names changed to a name that they needed to be changed back again?

The answer lies in the fact that these names were dealing with the confluence of cultures and languages. It was the opposite of the situation I presented above where the immigrants forced their form of name into the majority, without it being the other way. For example, if we look at Thiruvanantapuram (previously called Trivandrum). Thiruvanantapuram comes from the Malayalam word thiru-ananta-puram or “The City of Lord Ananta”. Now the origin of the name Trivandrum, although not accessible online, can be easily broken down to tri-van-drum. It doesn’t take a rocket-scientist to figure out that this name was Anglicized, but to Anglicize a name in a country where 22 Constitutionally recognized languages are spoken is indeed comical. Comparatively, the British didn’t impose their names while they were in the US, doing their colonization business. Massachusetts, a name that confuses many with its many double letters, still stands to this day, and it is from a Wôpanâak word, spoken by a minority in the state. So while we import American ideologies in our daily lives, maybe we should also import their bravery to keep maintain their culture.

The second reason for the name changes is the history they portray. Again, for a comparison, America continues to inherit their Native American origins with their place names. The Dakotas still show that they are allies, in terms of their political and social ideologies, reflecting their state names perfectly. Changing of names from Bombay (derived from Galician-Portuguese “good little bay”) to Mumbai reflects the culture of the people. Their admiration for their city goddess Mumbadevi reflects the citizen’s desire to connect to their past. Yes, they do have a “good little bay” but that is all throughout the many locations in the Eastern and Western Ghats, as well as eastern Mizoram.

Should we start to name places around those Bombay to reflect that they are all “good little bays?”And for those who continue to admire the American standards, remember many parts of Jefferson Davis (the president of a separatist country called Confederate States of America) Memorial Highway has been renamed. If we can reflect the westerners for their “liberal” views, maybe we should be liberal in changing the names from the oppressive Mughal era’s oppressive regime to reflect the names encultured for the people of the region?

Defence deals which brought back India’s reputation

0

As we all know that rapid militarization going on under the profound leadership of prime minister Modi. Previous regime thought that it would destabilize South Asia but resulted in paving way to Pakistan to enrich themselves with more modern weapons including upgraded squadrons of F16s and JF-17.

Since Modi came to power India is buying military hardware like never before. We have crossed 3 lakh crore budget for defence (allowance budget is not included). So let’s talk about the deals under Modi’s regime:

  1. Highly controversial Rafale deal: It comprises of 36 off shelf planes from dassult to replace the older jaguars and mig29k fighters. This deals amounts to whooping 7.87 billion US dollars.

2. AH64D Apache helicopters: Indian air force had only 15 attack helicopters in its inventory but an order of 22 Apache helicopters is given which helps to cover the hole that was haunting Indian air force. First batch in July.

3. M777 Howitzers: After Bofors not a single gun was purchased. But Modi make sure that it changes and it did.India bought 145 howitzers at the cost of ₹5070 crore.

4. K9 Vajra T: A bold move made by Modi led to a deal inked with South Korea for this beast. The ‘K9 Vajra-T’ Howitzer Program involves delivery of 100 systems in 42 months with an associated Engineering Support Package (ESP) covering spares, documentation and training and Maintenance Transfer of Technology (MToT) to the Army Base Workshop to support the Howitzer regiments throughout their life cycle.

5. INS Arihant: India’s first nuclear powered ballistic missile submarine sends a clear message to Pakistan that who dominates in the Arabian Sea.

The biggest deal of IAF is going to be finalised and that is MMRCA 2.0 Deal for 110 fighters but it could lead to another delay if regime changes just like they delayed rafale deal. India is getting strong day by day and Make in India initiative makes it a dream finally getting realized.

Ishrat Jahan case- naked support to terrorists & slander of Modi

Dropping proceedings against former police officers D G Vanzara and N K Amin in connection with the Ishrat Jahan encounter case, a special CBI court on 2 May 2019 acquitted them of all charges.  Following the verdict, Vinod Gajjar, who represented Vanzara, said, “The court’s order goes on to establish that the encounter was genuine.”

This development is very important, and reveals a lot about the nature of the anti-BJP parties and the self-styled ‘liberals’ of not only the Congress/Lutyens Delhi ecosystem, but also of other ‘secularists’ who are not a part of this ecosystem. (Yes, there are many who are not a part of those patronized by any party, and yet are staunchly against BJP & Narendra Modi.)

It shows how and what they think about the threat to the life of Narendra Modi, and the lives of Hindus in general, and activists of the Hindu Right in particular. In reality, many of them (not all) are GLAD when the Hindu activists are killed or attacked. They want the silence of the Right-wing Hindus, preferably over their dead body. Let us see how they reacted last year on a plot by Maoists to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As per reports on 8 June 2018, a letter accessed by the Pune Police revealed a plot by Maoists i.e. Communist radicals to assassinate PM Narendra Modi in a “Rajiv Gandhi type incident” by “targeting road shows”.  The Pune Police arrested 5 persons in this regard.

After this, as expected, there was an attempt to deny any such threat to Modi, attempt to pooh-pooh the claims of the Pune Police by the usual suspects- i.e. the anti-BJP politicians and the ‘secularist’ intellectuals. ‘Secularist’ journalists Swati Chaturvedi and Rohini Singh went to a ridiculous level to malign the NSA Ajit Doval.

JNU ‘student leader’ Shehla Rashid alleged on Twitter that BJP leader Nitin Gadkari and RSS are planning to assassinate PM Modi and blame it on the Muslims and Communists and then lynch Muslims. When threatened with a defamation suit, she made up a cover-up lie calling her tweet as ‘sarcasm’ whereas it was by no means sarcasm, it was a serious charge. Before this, she had called the plot to assassinate Modi, whom she called a ‘mass murderer’ [term borrowed from Shabana Azmi who first coined it in March 2002] as ‘bullshit’.

Congress leaders like Sanjay Nirupam took the usual path of pooh-poohing this threat. A known anti-Modi man, former Gujarat additional DGP (Intelligence), R.B. Sreekumar said: “These letters seem to be planted. Maoists never use real names.” This was quoted by Nikhil Wagle on Twitter, who is a journalist with a massive anti-BJP obsession and had called the PM Modi a ‘pervert‘.

Let us go a little further behind in time. In Oct 2013, bomb blasts at Modi’s rally in Patna by Indian Mujahiddin terrorists killed 6 and injured 85. In 2008, there were bombs planted in Surat. And on one occasion, Modi walked past a live bomb in Surat on 31 July 2008. After the deadly Coimbatore blasts of 14 February 1998 which killed 58 and nearly killed L K Advani, the then Congress President Sitaram Kesri accused RSS of carrying out the blasts.

After this, there were reports that he denied having made the allegation. But he then denied having denied the allegation and stuck to his charge. Even these blasts nearly killing Advani who had a miraculous escape as his flight was delayed by over 90 minutes due to bad weather, and killing 58 people, many of whom were BJP workers were not enough to melt the heart of the Congress. Congress candidate Imran Masud had himself threatened to chop Modi into pieces in 2014.

The Lalu-appointed Banerjee Committee in Jan 2005 as expected gave a report that Godhra was an accident, and not done by Muslims. The Congress fully defended that and attacked BJP for opposing the Banerjee report with spokesmen Abhishek Singhvi and Anand Sharma in forefront, thereby whitewashing the 2000 Muslims of their heinous crime of roasting to coal 59 Hindus. Lalu Yadav alleged in Bihar in rallies before Assembly polls in Jan-Feb 2005 that “BJP-RSS workers killed 59 in Godhra & blamed Muslims for it”, whereas the Banerjee Committee had merely called it an accident, and not said that ‘BJP-RSS workers killed the 59 in Godhra.’

Their heart doesn’t melt even in cases like Godhra where 59 Ram sewaks including 25 women and 15 children were roasted to coal by 2000 fanatic Muslims. Even after conviction of 34 Muslims by the trial court and the High Court, they will defend the barbaric killers & insult the dead, & blame RSS, BJP or VHP of doing the killings. What is surprising in Shehla Rashid tweeting the same on Modi? There will be an exclusive book by this author on the slander of the dead and defense of the killers in the Godhra case by the ‘secularists’. A BJP opponent, as late as 2017 refused to blame Muslims for Godhra and called the dead 59 in Godhra as ‘fanatics’ including the 15 children killed including babies which was allowed to be published by India Today’s platform DailyO.

Naturally, when they did so in the past cases, they would do the same in the Ishrat Jahan case where 4 terrorists were trying to assassinate Modi. Modi’s life hardly matters to many of them. A clear terrorist was tried to be portrayed as an ‘innocent girl’. Many concrete things have been suppressed totally by the media about the Ishrat Jahan encounter. Let us see this case now in totality.

On 15 June 2004, 4 suspected terrorists were gunned down on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. They included 19 year old Ishrat Jahan and 3 other men, 2 of whom were Pakistani nationals. After that, (as expected) the Leftist liberals in the media and anti-BJP politicians of the Congress, Samajwadi Party etc started claiming that the encounter was fake and 19-year old Ishrat Jahan was ‘innocent’ without any evidence to it. Their hatred for Narendra Modi is so much that they simply cannot digest the fact that a 19 year old girl attacked and tried to kill Narendra Modi, and would rather claim the opposite to be true. This howling lasted for a few days. One day the Marathi edition of The Indian Express, Loksatta reported in its issue of 14 July 2004 headlined: “Yes, Ishrat indeed was a terrorist” (‘Ho, Ishrat dahashatavaadich hoti’). The next day Lashkar-e-Toiba admitted on 14 July 2004 that Ishrat was indeed its member, reported by the English dailies the next day i.e. 15 July 2004. It said that Ishrat was married was to one of the three others in the car [i.e. Javed Sheikh] and was sitting with her husband in the car.

Immediately after this, the media and the Congress dropped the issue like a hot cake. They did not bother to apologize to Narendra Modi for falsely alleging that the encounter was fake and ‘innocent’ Ishrat  Jahan was killed. The Samajwadi Party also organised a ‘bandh’ in Mumbai’s Mumbra area in support of Ishrat Jahan before this confession by LeT. Former Gujarat CM and then Congress leader S S Vaghela and Congress Party had directly accused Narendra Modi of stage-managing the encounter. After this confession, the matter died its death. At that time the Sangh Parivar did not attack the Left-liberal-secular brigade for naked direct support to terrorists, and false allegations on innocent people like Narendra Modi and did not file defamation cases either. This was also violation of 153-A needlessly infuriating a community along with defamation of Modi.  NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad gave financial compensation to Ishrat Jahan’s family also in Mumbai.

In June 2004 itself, not only the Gujarat Police, but even the Mumbai Police (which worked under Congress in Maharashtra from 1999 to 2014) also said that there were sufficient leads to know Ishrat Jahan’s LeT links. Note the line in The Indian Express’ report of 15 July 2004 in Paragraph 4:However, Gujarat and Mumbai police had said there were sufficient leads to suspect her involvement in militant activities“.

But after the hullabaloo raised by anti-Narendra Modi people, the Mumbai Police also kept quiet on this issue, while in 2004 it had said the opposite. This is a clear indication that under political pressure from Congress and NCP, the anti-terrorist operations of Mumbai Police were curbed and Mumbai Police was forced to give up its drive against the suspected terrorist Ishrat Jahan. This was naked support to terrorists and interference in work of Police by Congress and NCP for the sake of attacking Narendra Modi.

Assume for argument’s sake, that the Gujarat Police wanted to kill 2 people in a fake encounter along with 2 Pakistani terrorists. Why on earth will they choose a totally unknown 19-year old girl from Thane, Maharashtra for it?  They could have easily chosen grown-up criminal men from Gujarat itself had they wanted to do so. It is like the West Bengal Police deciding to kill 2 people in a fake encounter with Pakistani terrorists in Kolkata, and deciding to kill an unknown 19-year old girl from Patna, Bihar for it! How ridiculous!

This is one article worth reading on the claims of the Gujarat Police. Mumbai Police also must have had similar evidence, or more clinching one.

Let us see what Ishrat Jahan’s mother said on 18 June 2004:

“Answering questions by media persons, Ms. Shamima denied reports in a section of the Mumbai press that Ishrat had twice left her house without the knowledge of the family members. She also contradicted her earlier statement that the family members were unaware about her whereabouts when she left home on June 12 morning. She claimed that Ishrat had left Thane to go to Mumbai to appear in an “interview.” Ms. Shamima disagreed that she suspected her daughter’s involvement with Javed, driver of the car carrying the four from Mumbai to Ahmedabad. Neither Javed nor the two other alleged terrorists who the police claimed hailed from Pakistan, had ever come to her place. She denied that Javed and Ishrat were ever trailed by the intelligence personnel in the past as reported in a section of the press.”

What her mother said later was different. In her petition to the Gujarat High Court, Ishrat’s mother Shamima Kausar had disputed the version of the Gujarat police as well as the Centre, claiming that her daughter was a saleswoman working for Javed Sheikh who dealt in perfumes.

Both Gujarat police and Centre (i.e. the then UPA Government, which was staunchly anti-Narendra Modi) pointed to infirmities in their version. Centre (UPA) told Gujarat HC that Javed had been recruited by LeT when he was in Dubai. Gopinath Pillai (Javed’s father) had not disclosed criminal cases pending against his son, or the fact that he had obtained a different passport using his original name even though the one issued to him was still valid.

The Centre (i.e. UPA) also disputed the claim of Gopinath Pillai, supported by Ishrat’s mother, that he was in the business of perfumes and that this required him and Ishrat to travel across the country. But in 2013 Javed Sheikh’s father said he went to Gujarat to meet a policeman! (no mention of the perfume business!) His father said Javed had paid her college fees 1 week before! (But Ishrat’s mother told the media on 18 June 2004 that Javed didn’t know Ishrat at all- but Javed’s father says he paid her fees!)

The late Mukul Sinha, lawyer of Gopinath i.e. father of Javed Sheikh, said the killings were part of a conspiracy and claimed Javed had no links with terror activities. How naïve he thinks we are!

So- her mother first said on 18 June 2004 that Ishrat did not know Javed. Then she said she knew Javed and worked under him for a perfume business. First she said she went away from home without telling and her whereabouts were not known to the family. Then she said she went away from home to give an ‘interview’. Then she said she went away from home for job requirements of a ‘perfume business’. Anyone with an iota of common sense will know that this shows that her mother fully knew that her daughter Ishrat was a terrorist and was fully involved with her. How naïve can one be to not see through such claims? The so-called ‘perfume business’ turned out to be non-existent later! The Left-liberals forcibly suppressed all these contradictions in her mother’s statements and did not question her on them, or question her lawyers like Vrinda Grover who defended her.

In June 2004 Police called the statements made by Ishrat’s mother, Shamima Raza, before the media after taking her daughter’s body to Mumbra in Thane, a “lie”. What she revealed before the Ahmedabad police during questioning corroborated some of the facts mentioned in the diary recovered by the police in June 2004. She had told the police that Javed lived in Mumbra for about three years in the late 1990s during which time they had “family relations.”

Only once did a former Himachal Pradesh CM Prem Kumar Dhumal write an article in Organiser in October 2004 where he dealt with this and said: “None of them asked the question- if she was innocent, what was she doing with 3 other much older men in a car, 2 of whom were Pakistani nationals, at 4 am in the morning 500 km away from home?”

Then out of the blue in 2009, Ahmedabad Magistrate Justice Tamang said in a report that the Ishrat Jahan encounter was fake, when it was not his jurisdiction to comment on it. He also said that all people were innocent and had no links to terrorists, ignoring the LeT confession completely. By that time, most people had forgotten this confession. But Justice Tamang had no authority, and did not even do the bare minimum of hearing the side of Police and Intelligence officials and of the Gujarat Government. His report was then duly stayed by the Gujarat HC. The HC said that the observations made in the report were beyond the jurisdiction of the judicial magistrate.

Then the SIT was asked to probe this case, and it is reported to have said in 2011 that the encounter was fake, without knowing what it said about whether the people were terrorists or not. But The Times of India reported on 24 October 2011 that the SIT agreed that all 4, including Ishrat Jahan indeed had terror links.

Then gradually this case was taken up again during the UPA rule, with not only the encounter being termed fake, but the girl and 3 others also called ‘innocent’.

But the Ex-Home Secretary during the Congress-UPA rule is on record saying that Ishrat Jahan was indeed a Terrorist, the day after the SIT was reported to have said that the encounter was fake.

But former IB chief A K Doval said that the UPA put tremendous pressure on SIT to call the encounter fake! But in 2009 the Centre’s (UPAs) affidavit to Gujarat HC was full of contradictions and confusing. But the UPA said in an affidavit that Ishrat was a terrorist indeed!

In 2010 terrorist David Headley whose real name was Dawood Gilani and who was involved in the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai also admitted that Ishrat was Lashkar’s terrorist. It was reported in June 2013 that the Congress deleted David Headley’s confession!

In between, in 2007, the Lashkar-e-Toiba ‘retracted’ its confession! On May 2, 2007, the Jama’t-ud-Da’wah carried an apology to Ishrat’s family on its website. The apology was by its spokesperson Abdulla Muntazir on the internet edition of the paper saying he was on leave when this admission was published and called it a “journalistic mistake by my staff”. Apologising to her family and all Indian Muslims, he wrote, “It has now been proven that Ishrat Jahan was not a member of Lashkar-e-Toiba and she was an innocent Muslim girl who was murdered by the Modi Sarkar.” What took the Lashkar three years to make the amendment is not explained.

The timing of the apology was significant. It came just before Gopinath Pillai, father of Javed Sheikh alias Pranesh Pillai who was killed along with Ishrat, filed a petition in the Supreme Court, demanding a CBI probe into the encounter.

Of course, it is common sense that you cannot acquit a criminal after he has confessed, and takes 3 years to retract his confession. The confession of 2004 was very accurate providing details that Ishrat was married to one of the 3 others in the car (i.e. Javed Sheikh) and was sitting with her husband which shows that LeT’s confession was very true. Also, the excuse given in the ‘retracting of confession’ that ‘I was on leave that day and it was a journalistic mistake’ is rubbish. If that was the case, it would have been retracted within 1-2 days, it doesn’t take 3 years to make correction to a mistake.

The LeT retracted when it understood that it will be easier to put Narendra Modi in difficulty by accusing his government of murdering an ‘innocent’ girl rather than confessing that she was their terrorist. In 2004, when the Leftist-liberals were howling against Narendra Modi, there was absolutely no reason for LeT to falsely confess Ishrat as its member.

Then the CBI was given the case and it duly followed its master’s (UPA’s) orders to frame innocent people of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and defend the guilty terrorists. IB officer Rajinder Kumar was tried to be made an accused. We had a conflict between CBI and IB over this, and a Headlines Today broadcast in June 2013 proved that they were all indeed terrorists. But politicians like Sharad Pawar again alleged shamelessly that the 19 year old Ishrat was innocent and accused Narendra Modi of murdering her. Pawar of course, did not explain why his own UPA coalition called her a terrorist in an affidavit given in the High Court in 2009, even after Justice Tamang’s (un-authorized) report.

After the June 2013 Headlines Today story, NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad, the man who gave compensation in 2004, alleged actually that the IB is working on BJP’s orders [when his party was ruling in the UPA and BJP was in Opposition!] and IB is not above law. This is another dangerous trend, a public representative making such terrible charges against IB which was also headed by a Muslim (Asif Ibrahim), and it was under the UPA Government.

Note here that the entire IB was fully behind its officer Rajinder Kumar who was being targeted by the CBI under UPA in this case. One could say, that at the most, one officer gave false information. But is the entire IB involved in a conspiracy to ‘eliminate an innocent girl’? Absolutely impossible. The very fact that the whole IB, which was headed by a Muslim Asif Ibrahim was behind Kumar and against UPA Government’s witch-hunt shows that the IB is absolutely right and it was a forcible attempt by UPA to frame innocents.

Jitendra Awhad and Sharad Pawar are wrong on facts also. Awhad claimed: “There is no record of any such warning being given to the state (Maharashtra) by the IB (on Ishrat’s terror links)…” while Pawar said: “Modi said the Mumbai police had failed to do their duty”. In reality, the Mumbai Police also said in 2004 that there were sufficient leads to zero in on Ishrat. This police worked under the Home Ministry of the state, which was held by their own party NCP from 1999 to 2014.

It is absolutely clear that Ishrat Jahan was a terrorist, since the UPA Government said this in a signed affidavit. It is absolutely impossible that the UPA Government would falsely call an ‘innocent’ Muslim girl as a ‘terrorist’ in 2009 that too in case of its bitter enemy Narendra Modi. In 2013 UPA decided to use this case against Narendra Modi by trying to frame him, with the help of friendly people in the Delhi media though it knew that Ishrat was a terrorist because it wanted to put Modi in some troubles so as to make Rahul Gandhi’s way clear in 2014. Unfortunately for them, this also did not materialize and Rahul’s party suffered a rout in 2014.

Senior columnist the late T V R Shenoy wrote: “What was Ishrat Jahan doing between June 12, when she disappeared from her mother’s house, and June 15, when she was shot in the company of alleged terrorists? One theory doing the rounds is that the young lady was kidnapped by the Gujarat police for use in their ‘false encounter.’ Let us assume for argument’s sake that the Gujarat police wanted dead bodies to file a charge of an ‘encounter.‘ Why on earth would they choose a completely unknown girl from Thane as a victim? I am sure there are other, far more likely candidates, grown men with a known criminal background, in Gujarat itself. The Gujarat police could have plausibly chosen any of them and there would have been nary a murmur.”

The sheer stupidity of the argument of the Gujarat Police using a totally unknown 19-year old ‘innocent’ girl from Thane for use in a fake encounter was never told by the media.

The Left-liberals of the media and political opponents will not reveal the truth of the Ishrat Jahan case even now, after the acquittal of 2 police officers. Leaders like Sharad Pawar will of course not apologize, they will also not be asked to apologize by the ‘secular’ media. They will pooh-pooh the real threat to Narendra Modi’s life, call it as ‘bullshit’, ‘fake attempts to get sympathy’, etc. and when horror events actually happen, such as Godhra, 1998 Coimbatore blasts etc they will allege that these were done by RSS/BJP and blame falsely put on Muslims!

Holiday of Rajiv Gandhi in INS Viraat, save India, elect Modi

0

The recent revelations on how father of the dynast- naamdaar president of congress party, Rajiv Gandhi has used INS Viraat, India’s premier warship for his family holiday has shocked the nation. Although the article appeared several decades ago but received little attention then may be due to the prejudice and partiality of several media houses and their commitment to engage in punkha coolie business to the one family.

The above revelation shows how the then Prime Minister of India had compromised the safety of India, taken INS Viraat for granted, misused and abused power and simply it looks like, Rajiv Gandhi had used India as his family property and Indians as mere slaves to one family.

The daily expenditure involved in maintaining and running INS Viraat is phenomenal as it travels with an entire retinue of escort ships. Further the huge expense was also incurred in setting up a satellite link in Agatti during the entire duration of the holiday of Rajiv Gandhi.

When Modi present undeniable facts, they go around and destroy all the missiles of lies and destructive, divisive agenda of the dynast and his affiliates. Whether the issue of Bofors scam, Sikh riot in the after math of Indira Gandhi’s assassination and reported positive signal of Rajiv Gandhi to the incident, later belittling the riot by stating whenever a big tree falls, earth would shake and the recent holiday of Rajiv Gandhi by using INS Viraat as his private taxi, all the revelations are quite painful and disgusting and shows how the one family has ruined India.

Indians must recognize the fact that electing the same one family, promoting the dynastic politics, allowing corruption, nepotism and scams to breed will take India to nowhere. Modi has taken India to a new trajectory of development, sab ka vikas, has brought several structural reforms to prevent corruption in high places, digitalized the governance to ensure greater transparency, installed merit over nepotism and ended dynastic culture, focused on development and national security, regained the lost dignity and glory of India.

To comeback to power, the dynast and other opposition parties are selling lies, negativity, the seeds of destruction of India’s stability because they want to capture power and want to stop Modi because another 5 more years to Modi means, that would be the end of corruption, nepotism and dynastic politics in India.  All these corrupt forces want enough space in Indian politics for corruption and scam.

In Tamil Nadu, the DMK has even corrupted the election system by introducing the process of cash for vote formula for the first time in the state. Further DMK also served as an inspiration to several other parties in India to adopt the same formula of cash for vote during election.  This is the style of politics followed by those who oppose Modi, whereas Modi is practicing and promoting the politics of sab ka vika, corruption free governance, stable government, development and national security.

Empowering poor people is the main agenda of Modi whereas bribing poor people is the agenda of several political parties, inspiring people to be partner in building New India is the agenda of Modi whereas scaring and lying to people for vote is the politics practiced by several opposition parties, all are equal under law is the politics practiced by Modi whereas minority appeasement is the politics of dynast and opposition parties, promoting national cultural identity – Hinduism is the politics of Modi whereas working for Christian and Islam missionaries who wants to convert Hindus to their religion is the politics of the dynast and other opposition parties, development of India and sab ka vikas is the political theme of Modi but the opposition parties want the development of own family. People must see the difference between how prosperous is the vision of Modi versus how reductionist, negative politics of the dynast and several opposition parties are.

The contrast between Modi and rest is vivid, conspicuous and obvious. Modi represent all virtues, honesty, simplicity, the passion of India first, transparency, merit and inclusiveness.  Whereas the dynast and the rest follow the politics of corruption and scam, nepotism, anti-development, minority appeasement for vote etc.

People of India have extraordinary responsibility not only to save India from such greedy, destructive forces, but also to contribute towards the development and sab ka vikas initiatives of Modi.

Modi made Indians aspirational, wise, knowledgeable, accountable and responsible and finally inspired their definite role in building NEW INDIA. On the contrary, look at the scenario in West Bengal, the TMC goons are not even allowing people to vote because people want to vote for Modi. Congress very cleverly preserved poverty and poor, used them during election and then reserved them to the next election season. Whereas Modi did everything possible to lift the poor people, opened bank account for them, ensured direct transfer of government subsidies to their account without any pilferage to middlemen etc.

India has been developed as a wonderful country with great promise by Modi in the last 5 years.  The world is looking at India as one of the leader country which is going to shape and determine the destiny and future of the world under Modi.

Save India, elect Modi should be the manta people should chant, follow and promote because India should not be allowed to suffer and get destroyed under instable government formed by several corrupt forces nor by the dynast who also may use India as his family property like his father who used INS Viraat for his private holiday.

Modi – India’s Divider in Chief between Kaamdars and Naamdars

0

How a self-respecting individual would celebrate when a reputed international media house calls the democratically elected (with full majority) PM of my country a ‘divider in chief’ unless they are short-sighted, selfish and anti-India? And look at the journalist’s credibility: A Muslim with a strong connection to the terrorist nation Pakistan is reporting to the world about the head of the only Hindu country! Whither his reporting credibility!

Our disagreements and hunger for power apart, the TIME’s disdain for our country’s head does not augur well for people who take this as something that can be ignored. Until Narendra Modi came to power, wasn’t there any division across India? Weren’t there instances when internal tussles took place among people based on caste, creed, and religion? Was there a single instance of riot or massacre happened in the past four years? Then, what metrics did Tavleen Singh’s son use that so much convinced him to attribute to Modi such a divisive title? His bio says he divides his time between New Delhi and London – was there any inconvenience over these years that made him spend his whole time in London since 2014 and he had to rely on the biased inputs from his journalist friends who sympathize with the corrupt Indian National Congress?

Since 2014, India has been progressing steadily in all indices. Inflation is in full control. Economy is stable or better. Development meets the eye in all sectors. Most importantly, the cancerous corruption that was rampant earlier has been put to rest. Looking at all that Modi and his team of performing ministers have contributed towards India’s growth, Aatish Taseer could perhaps have added any one of the following subtitles to his article’s header: India’s Divider in Chief – Between Corrupt and Non-corrupt, Between Performing and Non-performing, or even Between Kaamdars and Naamdars.

The TIME’s bias is clearly visible when one sees how conveniently they underplayed the more positive article by Ian Bremmer (Modi the reformer) by not making it the cover issue! It is a proven or accepted business or marketing tactics in these days of unethical journalism to wrap stuff in controversy and sell. This, to an informed reader, is certainly a dirty business tactic to uplift the falling readership and acceptance of TIME. But the Indian readers and social media enthusiasts – if they still have their self-respect intact and love their country to be respected across the globe, despite some internal political fights in a functioning democracy – must read between the lines and seek a way to fix the damage done to the respectable chair of the largest democracy in the world by the TIME.

Burqa-wearing comes under suspicion

0

The dropping of the traditional veil started taking place in the women’s minds during British rule in the country. The convent education made the Muslim women discard their customary habit of wearing the traditional veil known as Burqa. This changed attitude prompted Akbar Allahabadi to write in verse: beparda nazar aaiin jo Kal chand biwiyan, pucchha jo maine aap ka parda kya hua, boli ki aql mardon ki pad gaya (Seeing some women without a veil, when asked where your veil has gone, they said it now veils men’s wisdom). He was not against the use of the veil in Muslim society. However, the practice did not wholly come to an end.

It was continuously gaining momentum in spite of resistance and opposition due to certain obvious factors. Whether it is east or west, the burqa-wearing is not confined to any geographical limits. At present, we seemed to have no trust upon the frail women moving in the veil though we were continuously saying to them that we had complete confidence in their moral fiber. Confidence, when wrecked, cannot be simply restored, the analyzers more often insist. This was owing to this very act of mistrust that the veiled women directly come under suspicion during these violent days.

Wearing the sheer blackish fabric by the Muslim women for covering their physical body from head to ankle remains an unmistakable issue. It was still regarded as an important cloth for the grown-up woman in Muslim society despite the derision of this practice. It was the women who extremely experienced the apathy smoldering among the people who showed up deep hatred for the traditional veil. Along with everything else, Muslim women did not completely discard the conventional norm. Expressing their opinionated views on veil ban our politicians were also discussing it painstakingly and suggested to bring the prohibition over this practice.

The famed lyricist Javed Akhtar’s views on burqa ban too brought intense controversy that pierced into certain hearts pulsating with the different bent of minds. It was still considered helpful for the hydra-headed monster of extremism? Is it not just a robe to cover the woman’s body? It is simply important long wear to distract the gaze of menfolk. Veil, of course, is not limited to the Muslim community only. There were various different shapes of the shroud. A huge pang of emotion may dominate over the women wearing a veil after its ban in Sri Lanka.

SOS calls and the great Indian tragedy

0

I came across the term SOS when I was in school. We were told it is a distress sign usually used by people who need help. It was often associated with phrases like Save Our Souls or Save Our Ship. When I started learning Morse Code I realized it simply meant a Morse Code pattern of … — -… indicating distress. When I started working in Advertising I observed that people used SOS in a very casual way — from someone needing some inconsequential help to even indicate an urgent call of nature. Most of these people didn’t really understand what it takes to be in a distressed situation and hence ended up trivializing SOS.

SOS became a blind spot and meant nothing beyond someone is asking for help. All this changed about 4–5 years ago when I started noticing many SOS appeals made by my Indian friends on Social Media based on certain unfortunate events, incidents or activities. I usually paid attention to such posts because they came from my network of family, friends, and acquaintances. Most of these posts constituted outrage because of some gruesome crimes like rape, murder, lynching, attacks on religious institutions, allegations of attack on the democracy and most importantly our most revered freedom of expression. I mean well for my country, so I used to comment, discuss, and sign petitions. I could not participate in any on-ground vigils and candle light marches since I am living outside India, but I sincerely hoped that all my well-meaning friends would bring change through their activism.

As a student of analytics, I am interested in studying patterns, understand nuances, read between the lines and most importantly understand how perceptions are shaped. My curiosity forced me to explore why there was a sudden increase in SOS appeals and I started studying patterns and decoding context. I assumed:

1) Indians on Social Media are uniformly outraged about all social ills & crimes

2) SOS appeals and outrage on Social Media are apolitical and are not linked to Elections in India

After collecting data, putting it through the analytical rigour I had no choice but to accept that I was wrong. People in India are selectively outraged basis their political orientation or when they fall out of political favours or privileges. So, in Indian context, SOS is nothing but Selective Outrage Syndrome.

During my analysis I discovered that the Indian Social Media (Twitter & Facebook) discourse is driven by 4 different groups. Let us call them C, B, F, and K. Let me highlight some characteristics of these five groups.

Group C:

People in this are from diverse socio-economic classes. They are desperate for attention. They are hyper active on social media. They usually don’t read the articles that they share and only form their opinions based on headlines. This group shares articles, photos, videos etc at the speed of light. It helps them look knowledgeable and cool in their peer groups. This group contributes to spreading and amplifying Fake News or Propaganda by the current government and the opposition parties.

Group B:

People in this group are from diverse socio-economic classes. They are blinded by their love for the ruling party BJP and the Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi. In their opinion Shri Rahul Gandhi is a Pappu and they post everything that ridicules Shri Rahul Gandhi. They will post anything and everything that praises the PM, the ruling party, India, heritage of India, and Hinduism. They try to justify anything and everything in Hinduism. Quite a few of them do not do fact checks. Some of them don’t think before doing rapid fire sharing on social platforms. Some of them use filthy language. They CRY foul when there are crimes against Hindus and usually think all the people belonging to minority communities are criminals. It was also interesting to see bots or ghost profiles playing a role in this category.

Group F:

Almost all the people belonging to this group come from a very high socio-economic class and often from premier institutes in India. They are blinded by their hatred for the ruling party BJP and the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. For these people Shri Jawaharlal Nehru was god’s gift to humanity and by extension Shrimati Indira Gandhi, Shri Rajiv Gandhi, Shrimati Sonia Gandhi, Shri Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra are also Gifts from God. These people are often blinded by their love for Nehru Gandhi family. Occasionally they also throw pearls of wisdom by quoting Mahatma Gandhi. Their focus on Social Media is to criticise, oppose and ridicule everything that the PM does. Quality of their research is usually better, but it is not always accurate. They take large doses liberty and sensationalize the issue under the banner of creative license. When challenged on facts, they usually start shifting the conversation focus and start indulging in personal attacks and slander.

If their hypocrisy is pointed out then they accuse the person of whataboutism. They are also not averse to using foul language, but it is done in a sophisticated manner with Oxford English. They all preach respect for Women while liberally using abuses in various languages that are demeaning towards women. They usually pick up stupid statements made by some unimportant politician or leader of ‘seeking attention’ fringe group and start associating it with the PM or the Government of India. This group leaves no stone unturned to prove that being a Hindu is the worst thing that can happen to anyone. They are OUTRAGED only when the crimes are against minorities and usually are silent if minorities are involved in crime against any other religion. They don’t really care how their actions affect the image of India as stories published by them go beyond the Indian audiences. They question the highest courts in India every time a decision goes against their world view of how things should work.

Group K:

People in this group come from diverse socio-economic classes. They are logical and neither blinded by love or hatred towards the ruling party BJP and the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. This group is interested in progress of India and improving image of India overseas. They accept the fact that our country is not perfect, but they also acknowledge that a perfect country doesn’t exist. They do not suffer from Islamophobia or Christian phobia or Hindu phobia. They come from different religions and they understand the pluralism practiced by our people over thousands of years where there were many roads to God and many methods of salvation. They have different political leanings, but they are willing to engage in a mature and polite dialogue. They are willing to accept counter opinions, respect different voices, acknowledge flaw in their own arguments, and even accept mistakes in case they are proven wrong. They do not pretend to be experts on all aspects of running the country. Unfortunately, they must suffer mindless noise from Group C, B & F on a regular basis.

You must be wondering why is this a great Indian tragedy? It is a tragedy because Selective Outrage Syndrome (SOS) demonstrated by Bhakts (Group B) and Fiberals (Group F) is only creating noise and it is amplified by Circulators (Group C). This noise is not meant to solve any real issue or lead to any on ground level improvements. The noise created by Bhakts and Fiberals is so large that it usually overshadows reasonable voices from Kambhakts (Group K). For India to solve real issues — we need to stop paying attention to Bhakts and Fiberals. And most importantly mute the social feeds from the Circulators.

For the people who do not understand Hindi/Urdu/Hinglish etc…

Bhakts = Devotees

Fiberals = Fake Liberals

Kambakkhts = Cursed or Less Fortunate

While it was fascinating to study their behaviour, it was also frustrating to see how they are pushing India towards a tragedy.
