Republic Day and the planned horror

26th January, This year the day marked not only the 72nd Republic Day of the Nation , the presence of first woman fighter pilot Flight Lieutenant -Bhavna Kant ,and Rafale jets touching the sky with glory but also the horrifying violence that unleashed in the capital by the so called Farmer’s leader.

The goons in the mask of farmer’s leader in order to protest against the three farm laws had obtained permission from the Delhi Police to organize tractor parade in the capital and the route of the same was also assigned to them but the assigned route and the 5 path was just on paper. The violent mob went rioting all over the road till Red Fort, Given that they had not sought permission to move in this route.

The Violent mob went rioting all over the national capital and attacking the Delhi police personnel. The crowd did not even leave the lady constable of Delhi Police. They did not only attacked the Delhi Police physically but they attacked the morale of Delhi Police. ITO witnessed the worst violence by these so called farmer’s goons. I salute the patience of Delhi Police that despite so much of provocation they did not sought to violence which was commendable.

In order to instigate the violence several media houses and media reporters like Rajdeep Sardesai spread the fake news that one Farmer had been shot dead by the Delhi police. However in the reality the Farmer had died because of his rash and negligent driving while he was trying to attack the Delhi police personnel and in the same action his tractor met with an accident. Such media houses and reporters are a real blot to the Democracy .The mob did not stop till the violence they went far ahead of this and furled religious and other flag s at the place where Tri-colour is furled in Independence Day by the honourable Prime Minister of the nation. They vandalized the Republic Day tableau of Ram Mandir and Kedarnath.

Now the question arises here is- Are they really farmers? Will the farmer of India disrespect the national Flag and their Motherland? What is the relation of Ram Mandir and Kedarnath with the 3 farm laws? The answer is NO- Under the veil of farmer protest, the leftist communist, Anti India brigade has joined hand together to disrupt the peace of the country and moreover their hatred towards current BJP regime has led to hatred towards the nation and now their hatred has gone so high that they have started supporting anti national forces such as khalistanis as well.

Leaders like Yogendra Yadav, Rakesh Tikait are the main brain behind this violence. Under the veil of Farmer’s protest they are running their own personnel agenda that is to hamper peace of the country. They are the real traitors who not only disrespected India and Indian sentiments but also the helped the separatist leaders and brought disrespect to the country at International Platforms, which was their ultimate motive and object. The authorities should take these people to task and punish the severely according to law of the land.

Final trial of Mahatma Gandhi

0

While the wokes talk about how the murder of Gandhi as some sort of sin of the highest kind, I wonder why such a blunt ignorance of Godse’s point of view. And it is not a general murderer’s point of view either. Nothing like “Give me all of your money or I will shoot you” or, “Ask Nehru to excuse my corruption charges otherwise I will kill you”.

After a long expose of the nation’s harm caused by Gandhi, he reasons, “There was no legal machinery by which such an offender could be brought to book and for this reason I fired those fatal shots.”. This is not a reasoning of a man mad with fury. This is a logical and very reasonable argument from man who feels responsible for the future of his nation.

Without Gandhi’s nod, could there have been a partition? And if not, how come he is not held responsible for the loss of lives during partition? The partition continues to cause us loss of precious life even today. Did people not die due to disobedience movement? Who will account for the loss of lives of Satyagrahis who died in jail and it’s aftermath? Is Gandhi not to be held accountable for their deaths? And if yes, how come he is never called a murderer for that?

If people have to die in pursuit of independence, then why not die while killing the oppressors? What purpose did Gandhi’s satyagraha served if it did not even guarantee life of the satyagrahi? Bhagat Singh’s or Netaji Bose’s methods at least guaranteed that for each life we loose, we kill an even more number of oppressors. At the very least it ensured fear in the hearts of the surviving oppressors. And at the most, it was a sure shot way of taking independence.

Logically satyagraha did not make any sense and even in practice, what did the “Mahatma” give us in return of following him blindly on his stupid path? A divided, weak and poor nation? A nation with both arms cut-off by Islamists? A nation divided by religion, language, caste and what not?

It is this blunder which proved to Godse beyond doubt that Gandhi was a leech for this nation sucking the blood out of it. And that this leech had to be removed. By salt or by knife.

Indian democracy is the biggest loser of anti-Modi diatribe

Election after election and opinion poll after poll, it has been proved since 2002 that the anti-Modi diatribes from people in politics to civil society including media (Indian and foreign), secular and liberal and think tanks have very little impact on Modi march in consolidating his position in national politics and to some extent in international politics vis-à-vis others. He is increasingly found a giant colossus in 21st century Indian politics a la Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru were in pre-independent and post-independent Indian politics respectively.  There is no match and no substitute despite a large number of powerful political, intellectuals, secular and liberal opponents Modi has.

On March 24, 2020, PM Narendra Modi ordered a nationwide lockdown for 21 days, limiting movement of the entire 1.3 billion population of India as a preventive measure against the Covid19 pandemic, alleged by many a too draconian measure. Prior to this, PM had ordered 14 hour nationwide voluntary public curfew on March 22, 2020 followed by enforcement of series of regulations in the country’s Covid19 affected regions. Here, I would like to bring to the notice of all my readers that in the evening of March 22, 2020 curfew, a senior opposition politician cum former cabinet minister in Odisha Government told, and widely telecasted in Odisha based leading news channels, that ‘One day curfew is OK.

But, a longer spell of the same won’t be tolerated, and possibly there will be a revolt against Modi if he dares to go for the same.’ This kind of forecasting is nothing new since Modi ascended on PM Chair on May 26, 2014. In 2016, during the implementation of demonetization, the then Supreme Court CJI forecasted public revolt in view of demonetization, the first of the kind in democratic India.  On April 14, after initial 21 days lockdown PM Modi extended the same nationwide until May 3 with conditional relaxations after April 20 for the regions where the spread had been contained or was minimal, and so on. Till date even after more than nine months, this lockdown measures have not been completely dispense with in some states/cities/districts. Yet, there was no sign of revolt as forecasted, and that too, despite there were provocations and diatribes by Modi opponents in politics and civil society.

And, in the meanwhile, elections to crucial Bihar state assembly and by-elections to several state assemblies and Lok Sabha seats spread over several parts of India apart from newly designed District Development Council (DDC) in J&K held -without much difficulty- with huge participations in which Modi’s party and his allies, who supported the lockdowns, have done relatively better including retaining Bihar government. On January 16, the Punjab based English daily The Tribune published the IANS C-Voter State of the Nation 2021 survey. Some of the important points which have direct link to this analysis that the survey has brought to notice among others are:
1. More than 80 per cent of the people of Odisha prefer Modi as PM though Odisha is a non-BJP ruled state for last 21 years and the state non-BJP CM of 21 years has been adjudged as the best CM in India by the same The Tribune-IANS C-Voters subsequent survey.
2. Surprisingly, about 75.68 percentage of people in the highly insurgents infected North-Eastern states, where minorities concentration are high, prefer Modi as PM, an alleged Hindutva icon. This was the region which was a decade back no-go-zone for BJP as a party.
3. In Jammu and Kashmir, where separatists are most active, and where post-2019 General Election the state privileged status through Article 370 and 35A have been withdrawn, PM Modi enjoys support of 46.74 percentage of people while the opponents of withdrawal of articles Rahul Gandhi, who promised to get back the state’s privileged status moment he get back his family right to rule India (the claim his supporters allegedly use to make), and as the family claims and occupied the grand old party ownership, gets 34.15 percentage preference.
4. Overall, 59.22 per cent of people across India prefer Narendra Modi as the PM as compared to former Congress President Rahul Gandhi whose approval rating is merely 25.62 per cent as per the survey. Here, it is to be noted that India though -as per late Dr. A.P.J. Kalam ‘it is easy to count the sand in the sea beach but difficult to count Indian political parties’- has hundreds of political parties, yet only two political parties Congress and BJP have nationwide networks and representations. From survey, one can comfortable conclude that Modi has no substitute in days to come.

In nutshell, one can confidently assume that more there is Modi diatribe, more Modi gets stronger matching to his reply ‘My secret of success is people’s abuses from morning to evening’ to London interviewer’s question ‘What is secret of your success?’ He was abused both in India and abroad with verbatim such as ‘gandi naali ka keeda’, ‘maudaka gaudagar’, ‘mad dog’, ‘Brahmasura’ ‘India’s divider-in-chief’, etc. And his widow mother has not been spare when secular politician called him ‘son of a whore’. Apart from the above, two senior politicians and former cabinet ministers in Union Cabinets had asked India’s arch-rival Pakistan’s help in Pakistan soil to ‘remove Modi.’ Even his election through the-first-past-the-post system of election adopted in the Indian Constitution before Modi born, and 17 general elections later, questioned although BJP and along with allies have got 38 percent and 45 percent votes respectively, the highest any party and allies have got in last nine general elections since 1989.

Indian politics’ early colossus such as Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru committed so much of damage to Indian democracy and nation that it is yet to fully recover from those. For example, Mahatma Gandhi’s insistence to give PM chair to Jawaharlal Nehru, who did not has party’s mandate as he was clearly rejected with 0/15 votes, was the major undemocratic act in newly freed nation that chosen democratic governance. Prior to this democratic blunder, Mahatma Gandhi refused to cooperate democratically elected Congress Party President Netaji Subash Chandra Bose in 1939 which tainted Congress democratic adherence pre-independence. And J. L. Nehru destroyed political career of great nationalist patriots and statesmanlike Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukharjee and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar among others who had potential to oppose his darbari politics. As a result, his disastrous foreign policy in regard to J&K, Tibet-China, Nepal, Baluchistan, etc., and the so-called socialist economic policy and secular politics were implemented without any opposition.

Now, Modi is a colossus. Opponents’ diatribes have been summarily rejected by the people as if what they have been espousing are bullshits. Per example: during GE2019 campaigning, the alleged kickback in Rafale deal was a big issue despite apex court rejection. Soon after the election, nobody raised the issue, like seen in Bofors scam, ascertaining the people’s apprehension that the issue was raised to corner the government during election, and to favour inimical neighbours in which opposition see scope of their political revival weakening Indian defence. And, in view of the above, sometimes it comes to my mind that Modi has rightly told that his opponents’ abuses are his breakfast, launch, tea and dinner.

How long all these ugly and undemocratic politics will go on? Now, while BJP is gaining grounds in the regions, which were its no-go-zone decade back, after consolidation its position in cow belt,  and when the grand old party Congress, the only other party having all India networks, receding from all over India including its pocket borough Amethi, where is democratic opposition to BJP and Modi? How can India be a respected democracy in the community of democratic countries in the world without a strong opposition? And when regional parties are mostly ruled by dynasty nawabs? Should India return to the days of Nehru-Indira? In this case, repeat of Indira’s draconian NATIONAL EMERGENCY -purportedly imposed to retain her illegitimate government- can’t be ruled out, and the eventual loser is Indian Democracy.

From Capitol to Capital – Tale of two cities… and democracies

0

Two notable riots happened at two different Capitals across the globe, all in the span of a couple of weeks.

US and India, the two big democracies, underwent the horror of witnessing a riotous mob descend on their respective citadels, Capitol Hill and Red Fort, respectively. One was by the extreme right (led by a leader in denial of his election loss) and the other by a so-called mob of ‘farmers’ (fueled and soft peddled by the leftist and anarchist elements that operated under its garb).

Instigators of both claimed their innocence and grievance. Yet the resulting events left horrible aftermath and blow to democracies. If a confederate flag was paraded in the halls of the US Capitol, the historic Red fort witnessed khalistani elements parading their flag atop the ramparts of the fort.

As someone put it succinctly, one was a failure by the Govt (Farmers rally), the other case – Govt was a failure (Capitol Hill mob).

Each protest was fanned from the far end of either side of the political spectrum – far right to the far left).

Voices that were given to mouthing the support for either one side were in a fix. Each claimed one movement was highjacked by vested interests BUT came down heavily in condemning the other.

One was more blatant while the other operated under the garb of some ‘Gandhian’ protest.

It’s easy to mouth ‘I condemn any violence and rioting’ without reckoning the runup to the events that took place. The matter of fact is both the events SHOULD NOT have happened; whether it was the march to the Capitol Hill OR the protests by the so called ‘farmers’. Both the mobs were fed a bunch of lies and misinformation in the face of facts that lay right in front of them. Both used and we’re used by their media mouthpieces to peddle such lies. Whether both were incited by vested interests is a matter of debate. Social media just added a whole new flavor to the game.

At the end of it, the ‘optics’ (or ‘generated public perception) was the centerpiece and is yet to be played out fully. Who cares if the democracies were under attack. Who is bothered when the police on both sides got grievously injured and died, in the process? It has to be all about ‘Insurrection’, ‘Revolution’, ‘lost causes’ and finally peddle titillating content.

The bottom line is one cannot stand selectively mute to such riotous incidents while expressing shock and outrage at the other. One cannot selectively gloss over OR dress down reportage of violence in one case simply because the context does not fit one’s pet political narrative. Violence in all forms must be condemned regardless of the runup to the incident.

Ask not if the crowd ‘just’ gathered to listen to the rants of their leader BUT DO ASK if they were ‘just’ rants OR consistently peddled lies that whipped up strong rhetoric and incited a mob to march up to the Hill. ASK JUST NOT why the demonstrations went awry when they were peaceful for the majority of time BUT DO ASK if they went awry after the crowd was fed on twisted facts, lies, and peddled agenda. DO ASK if it was ONLY the ‘farmers’ that sat there ‘peacefully’ the whole time OR if they were more than just that. DO ASK all these and more …

Liar liar, lobbyists caught with their pants on fire, over Netaji’s portrait row

The so called, social activists, journalist ride on such a high horse of greed, malice and hatred for anything that has remotest connection with Modi or BJP that they forget their station in life (which, to state the truth is not much, barring fake news peddling, getting caught and shamelessly not even deleting the fake news piece), that they have the sheer audacity to not only criticize but question the actions of the First Citizen, The Supreme Commander of all armed forces, the President of India.

These so called fake liberals are so cocksure of themselves and so full of hatred that they have dared to mock the President twice in a week.

Firstly it was regarding the donation toward the construction of Ram Mandir then the unveiling of Portrait of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Firstly, the First Citizen who receives ₹500,000 a month, non taxed, cannot, without the assent of the some fake news journalist, donate the same amount for the cause which is of his religion, well, wow, slow claps, remember folks India is a secular country where everyone has the freedom to practice and express one’s religion, according to the constitution, that is everyone except the First Citizen of the country.
No Sir, he has to apply to a journalist whether he can spend a month’s salary to a cause of the faith and religion he follows.

Secondly, the President unveiled the portrait of Netaji on his 125th birth anniversary being celebrated as Parakram Diwas to commemorate the sacrifice and devotion of Netaji for India’s independence.

And how does the ruling party in Netaji’s home state pay him back- by disgracefully leaving the dais and by spreading lies about his portrait being unveiled by the President.

Well, if you don’t know what Netaji looked like, you would obviously say that the portrait is fake, but as the saying in Hindi goes, ‘Jo kehta hai vohi hota hai, now fraud and fake people will term the President fake, when in fact the Portrait by Padmshri Artist Paresh Maity, is based on the photo provided by Netaji’s niece.

So for arguments sake, even if we acknowledge that they fiberals (no it isn’t spelling mistake), really believed it was some actor and not Netaji, who were they actually trying to discredit, The President or The Netaji, remains questionable.

On one hand they cry for equality yet do not miss a chance to ridicule a Dalit President for petty fake reasons, but also are unable to recognize the Real face of Netaji who they lay a claim on, and in process, bitterly revealing their own masquerade of deceit and hate, basically against anything related to Hindus, from Ram Mandir to the Portrait of Netaji, these fake lies peddler are desperately trying to clutch at any vestiges of power, the feeling that they can dictate terms, and if not so much as dictating terms, they can still lobby and party hard on taxpayers funds, which sadly has been put to an abrupt end.

But this hatred knows no abyss as they keep discovering new rock bottoms daily in a bid to discredit the Prime-Minister, the Bjp and everything it stands for, be it Hindus or Ram Mandir. These can only be seen as last minute, feeble attempt to save their skin and win the upcoming West Bengal state elections, where understandably, they might be getting funds from.

As Nation celebrates it’s 72nd Republic day, I hope and pray that may God gift Sadbuddhi to these so called Journalists.
Jai Hind.

How terrorism spreads

0

War, an inseparable part of life, an activity in which every single living being irrespective of his size, shape, and power, participate. They indulge wholeheartedly in this, sometimes due to helplessness, sometimes because of habit, but eventually everyone participates in this, in one way or another. Even lord Krishna guided Arjun to the war. Though it is different that he guided him for the protection of humanity. But in our world, people occasionally fight, sometimes to portrait themselves as superior than others, and sometimes for materialistic things like land, and natural resources.

When Europeans spread out to conquer the world, they brought one big change in our history. They changed the pattern of war from war for expand of religion to war for resources, which proved to be less violent. Though war for religion existed then too, but Europeans shrank it to meagre level. But as soon as Europeans left their colonies, the war for religion again started blanketing world, this time with more pace. Invention of modern weapons proved to be more devastating way than all others, and radicals saw it as an opportunity.

Terrorism, a more sophisticated kind of war has taken thousands of lives since the independence of third world only. But assessing it only on the number of deaths have been taken by it would be injustice for those who are suffering badly due to this malicious activity. Plus, fear due to terrorism related activities also needs to be taken into account.

But how terrorism has become so big that the death toll is rising every year, and no one is capable of holding its bridle. There are multiple reasons behind the spread of terrorism. Migration of refugees from terrorism effective/host nations, not setting of accountability for such acts are some major reasons.

According to Global Terrorism Index report, researchers studied since the last two decades, pattern of terrorism has changed a lot. Earlier, before 2000, middle eastern and north African nations were worst affected, but after 2000, spread of terrorism occurred in those regions where terrorism was not before 2000, like western world. Though middle east and north African nations are still on the top preference of terrorist outfits, but loss due to such acts in western world is now emerging as a matter of deep concern. As per the GTI report 2019, around 63 nations lost at least one life because of terrorist attacks, and 17 nations lost more than 100 deaths due to the same.

Over 27 nations experienced attacks either by ISIS or by its affiliate.

Eastern Sunday bombing in Sri Lanka cause 266 deaths and left over 500 injured. Responsibility again taken by the ISIS.

If we take a look on the terrorist activities recorded by GTI only, from 1970-2019 more than 170,000 events have been recorded. Every year almost 21,000 people die due to this, peaked in 2014 with 44,000 deaths.

Economic cost of terrorism is also a matter of emerging tension among the nations. Financial cost was staggering USD 26.4 billion (₨ 1,924.5 billion) in 2019, 25% lower than prior year (2018), and 77% lower than (USD 80 b) 2014. it means the financial cost of terrorism would be USD 80 billion in 2014, when indirect losses are not included. Now, just imagine the total cost nations are bearing just because of this vicious activity.

Now let’s think about the driving factors behind this.

The first factor is, not setting of accountability of people actually responsible. It is 100% true that Muslim world is paying highest price due to terrorism, but one should not forget that they were the nations who opted this way in their past. When Soviet Union attacked Afghanistan in 1979, Afghanistan took help from various terrorist outfits, and Lunatic like Osama Bin Laden rose. Arab-Israeli war, Israel-Iran war, Israel-Palestine war are some more examples when nations stood by terrorist outfits to defeat their common foe. First they (terrorist outfits) help their host nations fighting common enemy, and as soon as they see opportunity, they strike on these nations to form Sharia government. Iraq, Jordan, Pakistan, Afghanistan are example of some nations who fell into the hands of them.

Most of the terrorist are coming from Muslim nations, mainly from middle eastern, but no one from these nations are taking relevant actions to resist it, because it doesn’t attract their interest. Majority of these nations are happy to represent terrorist as their hero. They respect them, follow them blindly as followers, pick up weapon on their single call, and gather in thousands when they die. Here are few pics of people attending funeral of some hardcore, coldblooded, lunatic terrorist with grave emotions.

There are some shocking pics of protest of Muslims when Osama got killed by the hands on American forces. How the process of burning American flags started soon after his assassination. Muslims portrayed him as a hero. Same sort of videos surfaced when Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi slayed by American forces. We do not have to remind what were the repercussion of the action taken by the France against radical Islamic terrorism after a teacher got beheaded by a guy, who took shelter in France when he was 6. How Muslim leaders spit poison about rest of the world, and how much they get respect from their followers, everyone knows. It all makes one thing crystal clear, in the depth of their hearts, there is a love and passion for those whoever tries to spread Islam over the world, doesn’t matter in which way. And they show it with proud.

But if we talk about rest of the world, they always isolate themselves from speaking firmly against these vicious acts being committed by Muslims on regular basis. They do not make them accountable for such activities. But we forget, “Bad cannot be good by avoiding bad elements, though strengthen devils.”

Nations need to contemplate that until these nations are not taking responsibility to eradicate such elements from their society, actions by external nations are not enough.

The second driving force is easy migration. Migration from Islamic nations to non-Islamic nations. According to some latest GTI reports, it is said that the concentration of terrorism has changed since last few years from middle eastern and north African nations to those who weren’t in grip of terrorism earlier, mainly where large number of Muslim migrants took shelter. It may sound very disturbing to us, but it is proven true. 2020 Paris attack on Charlie Hebdo, 2016 Berlin lorry attack are couple of examples conducted by those who entered nations either as refugee, or by other means.

Though it is correct that millions fled from Islamic nations do really need help, but this also cannot be denied that terrorists/anarchist have successfully infiltrated such migrations. Violent protest in Sweden when rumours about burning Quran spread, thousands gathered on roads, pelted stones on police, set ablaze, shouted objectionable slogans, and many more. According to New England Journal of Public Policy-2018, only 3,024 refugees were allowed to enter US in 2017 which reduced to only 11 in 2018, when they were scrutinized for 2 long years. Their reason behind it was as same as many of other western nations. They gave the reason behind it was “Safety of their people and nation”, and above given incidents of terrorist attacks in nations prove their excuse.

So these are the vital reasons behind the spread of terrorism in other nations. Some might feel it too disturbing to agree, but this is a truth needs to be spoken out clearly and loudly, and Muslim world must contemplate before saying that world is becoming “Islamophobic”.

The indomitable emotion that makes a nation- Celebrating the 72nd Republic Day of India

Dr. Biplab Chatterjee, my brother sent me a picture of a kid basking in the warmth of the pleasant winter sun in Shillong, Meghalaya lodged on his father’s back. A kid who was oblivious to all that was going on around him and all that he cared for was getting his meals on time and everything that his heart desired and that he could cry his way into. One look at his dreamy eyes and a flurry of emotions crossed my mind. I asked myself what would be my answer if this kid magically developed verbal skills and asked me where he was born and what he could expect from the land that he was all set to grow up in.

The first words that came to my mind were from Swami Vivekananda’s speech from the First World’s Parliament of Religions in Chicago. He would grow up in a country that was built and nurtured by the oldest order of monks in the world. No matter what religion he belonged to he will enjoy every festival and the splendid and mouthwatering delights that come with it unhindered. He will get a chance to enjoy a belly full of Biryani (Eid), a healthy serving of delicious cakes (Christmas), and also a sumptuous serving of Khichdi and tomato chatni (Durga Puja) within a few months of the year. If he chooses to, he could go ahead and help himself to 7-course meals at Sikh Langars 365 days a year without ever being asked his name or religion.

No matter his religion, cast or creed, he will be almost invariably be treated with equal disdain by the computer system and Artificial Intelligence system of the Indian Railways and will most definitely never get a confirmed berth on a train until he becomes a Senior Citizen. He would be lucky enough to grow up in a country where there was no concept of arranged or forced marriages as here we refer to it as just marriages. He will, until he is old enough, refer to the moon as mama. If he is born in Guwahati, then Mama would mean the city Police or Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma (Our Health Minister).

He will most definitely get the first taste of melody and the folk tales of the country from his mother or grandmother. As he grows up, his life will definitely get tougher but he will never feel his spirit detached from the spirit of the land. There will always be someone more frustrated with his life than him. No matter how battered and alone, he will find company in strangers during a cricket match or Bihu dance. There will be at least one friend who will always tell him to drink off all his pains even if he has no money to buy the drink. There will always be a large assortment of mohalla wallas who will go berserk if he stands in “matric porikha” but will almost equally lambast him if lands 3rd division with compartmental in the same exam.

There are many emotions that are specific to being an Indian and these emotions transcends all religions, economic and social boundaries and it is these emotions that make us Indian. The Republic Day is the celebration of one such indomitable emotion that makes us who we are— the emotion of being the nation that is India.

It has been 71 years since our elders decided and propounded how we would see ourselves and the society in the years to come through a document that supersedes — in power — every other document in this country. The Constitution of India is in many ways the soul of the nation that not only drives its massive engines by keeping it level headed and enabling its thrusters with the necessary fuel to push forward but also ensures that that the onward surge of the nation is never at the cost of the lives and liberty of its citizen. 26th January 1950 was the day when this historic and decisive document came into force. It was also the day when the great nation of India truly took over the reins of its own fate into its own hands. Ever since the 26th of January has been a day of celebration and fanfare for the nation and it is often on this day that the entire nation — that is on so many other occasions divided and tormented by its own diversity — comes together as one even if it is for 24 hours. It is this day that the tri-color dominates all other colors whether it is saffron, green, white, or red. It is this day that the entire nation shuns most of the swanky new channels and switches back to the old and euphoric Doordarshan. It is to watch the Republic Day parade on the Rajpath immersing their senses and the nation as a whole back in the memories and glories of the nostalgia of its past and the colorful diversities of its existing culture.

As a nation, we have come a long way. We started off as a nation of 37 crore souls and we are now a nation of 140 individuals. We have made rapid advances in the field of science, technology, culture, defense, and education. From a nation that was robbed of its identity and respect under brutal British rule, we have become a beacon of hope and inspiration for the world. My pride knows no bounds when I realize that even after being subjugated to 200 years of British rule that was marked by looting and pilferage of our resources to the west, we are still a country rich in resources, wealth, and culture. We still hold our own at the table of the nations of the world and have been over the years influencing generations with our cultures, religion, and way of life. While a large chunk of the citizen of our country looks to the west with awe and reverence, they still remain oblivious to the greatness and varied and rich culture of their own great nation.

The greatness of a nation is not just weighed in by its achievements in terms of all that has been mentioned above. An incredibly important aspect of it is how well the nation can guard its borders. The country has fought 6 wars with Pakistan and China since its independence and has been successfully fending off terrorist attacks and other similar aggravations on a daily basis. The herculean task of safeguarding the independence and sovereignty of the nation not only underlines the prowess of the country’s defense forces but also in their tales of bravery and sacrifice we find the true essence of the spirit of India. In the immortal lines of Kavi Makhan Lal Chaturvedi — even a flower that blossoms on this land desire to decorate the path that is taken by the brave to defend their motherland. Such is the respect and aura of the Indian defense forces. It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the Indian Army has come the farthest from being a colonial army that was used to occupy its own people and had to engage in battles against its own men and women. Today the army is not just mighty but also the most humane. But as the towering, Param Veer Chakra Winner late. Captain Vikram Batra gleefully put it, “ye dil maange more”.

Bollywood and cricket have been the two most identifying factors for us the world over. While the Hindi film industry churns out the largest number of films every year the world over, something very interesting has happened over the last few years in the other regions of the country in terms of cinema. The southern film industries have in a way integrated with the Hindi film industry with Hindi dubbed versions of the south Indian films finding their way into northern and eastern markets and this in a unique way unified the Indian film industry in a way that it was never was before. Bahubali wouldn’t have become the highest-grossing film of the country had it not been lapped up universally by all the markets of the country. What that has done for Indian cinema, the world over is, it has opened up the eyes of the foreign viewers to the multiple cultures and ethos of India and even they know what to expect from films of different regions of India. That may not seem like much but we must consider that most people in our country still refer to Mandarin and Cantonese as just “Chinese”. To make the world take notice of varied subcultures in your country is in a lot of ways recognition of your soft power.

Most of the people reading this write-up will know a lot more about cricket than I do. I haven’t been following cricket as much I used to when I was my mother’s company in watching every match that was telecast no matter how inconsequential it was. Whenever I tried to make her believe anything other than the fact that cricket was inconsequential, I was met with furious backlash. While it felt somewhat irritating then, now that she is no more, I sometimes reminiscences those fights and they bring a smile to my face. It also reminds me of the sheer power of the game that is much more than a game in our country.

Cricket started in England and the English brought it to India but now they are forced to watch helplessly as Indians have taken their game and made it a bigger source of income and revenue generation than a healthy portion of their overall economy. Such is the power of numbers and craze of a nation of 140 crore souls. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has grown in stature so much that someday we might just call it the Board of Control for Cricket in the world and everyone will agree. It was hilarious to see Shoaib Akhtar crying on an American social media Platform about ICC’s (Based in Dubai) ignorance of not featuring even a single Pakistani player in their world’s best cricketers lists. He was sure that ICC did it to please BCCI. Guess who is the CEO of ICC. It’s a dude named Manu Sawhney. Chuckle! Chuckle!

Few people would point this out but I feel that one of the most defining factors of the Indian culture is something that has over the years become important enough to garner its own show on Netflix. It is Indian marriages. India has always been known for its grand celebrations, spectacles, and elaborate associations and it has only gotten bigger with every year. While marriages still remain one of the holy trinity of interests in India — the other two being Cricket and Bollywood — it has now gone international. Europe, America, Africa —almost every country of the world has been a venue of at least one Gujrathi, Punjabi, Marwari, North Indian, or Bengali destination wedding.

An average Indian Wedding Photographer earns more than a state government gazetted officer legally earns in salaries and perks. Wedding Photographers like Joseph Radhik, Jain brothers Badal and Raja, Lakhbir Singh, Sundeep Singh, Shruti Khanna, and Jayant Chhabra are just as big names as the stars and industrialists they shoot. The take away from all this is the simple fact that these people would not be the celebrity that they are had marriages not been as important as they are here in India and had its reach not been growing as exponentially as it is from year to year. It is only a matter of time before Russians and Americans start choosing to exchange vows with an insane and grandiose Indian marriage theme setting albeit in their cultural ways.

Doctors on duty during the Covid – 19 pandemic

Having said all that, the true fabric of our republic was not tested as cruelly as it was during the Corona Pandemic. The Covid-19 outbreak in so many ways destroyed the social fabric of the nation and made us unsocial for half a year. We are a warm lot and we love our handshakes, pats-on-the back, and hugs but the pandemic took that away from us in a matter of days. As we got deeper and deeper into the pandemic, we realized the true essence of brotherhood and the unseen bond that we all shared with each other. There were 100s of instances of never seen before goodness and godliness that marked all that is the very best in this country. There were instances of people risking their own lives for the greater good. There were also instances of people endangering others for their selfish motives but I am glad that the examples of goodness far outnumbered the ones of selfishness.

Just a few days back, I heard what was the most uplifting news of 2020 for me. India had developed and successfully tested an indigenous covid-19 vaccine that is now all set to be given to the people of the country and also sold internationally. This essentially means that a large chunk of people who will be saving themselves over the next few months will be able to do so because of the hard work, dedication, and also the sacrifice of my countrymen. In a world full of countries we have once again stood our ground and created something that is bound to help humankind as a whole.

After a catastrophic 2020, as we slowly walk into the wilderness of life in 2021, the Republic Day should serve as a reminder of the fact that we are all one soul and in our goodness and support of the others lies our strength and spirit. This nation moves when we heave each other and pull them out of their drudgery. This nation prospers when we bask in the glory of each other and lend a shoulder or a helping hand to support their weakness. This nation celebrates when the people that it is about flourishes and celebrates in it.
