Allopathy Vs. Ayurveda- The debate

0

The current arguments between Baba Ramdev and IMA are playing in a theater of absurdity. On the one hand is Ayurveda, globally credited with the first known surgery and whose practitioners left the child’s progress in womb carved in stone for generations to see a millennium back.

On the other hand, allopathy, whose practitioners till four or five centuries back were studying innards of animals to understand body parts and function, and for most of the problems, their solution was to bleed a patient by applying leeches.

Suffering from political suppression, burning of books, destruction of colleges, and slaughter of its practitioners, Ayurveda still survives a miracle and testament to the effectiveness of its medication in disease prevention and control. A faith in Ayurveda is a trust built over millenniums of cure and disease control.

Allopathy has received state support, liberally funded medical colleges, jobs, recognition for its practitioners, and global support. But the fact remains that this system is not based on cure but on keeping the disease in check with extensive medication, leaving a person dependent on medication. With significant research and a global market, this system has hugely improved quality of life and extended life spans.

Ayurveda needs resources to develop and possibly regain some of its lost knowledge. It has been vilified as quackery, denied research funds and jobs for its practitioners. This medication and treatment system needs validation from ‘the west ‘to be universally acceptable.

Like it or not, today’s validation of ‘ the west ‘starts from The United States, the global leader in opinion and trendsetter. Ayurveda needs to conquer the United States. It requires strategy, resources, and reach, all of which based on public information are with Baba Ramdev should he decide to do so.

Coming to the last part – the religion which is dragged in this discussion. Pope had declared the human body sacred and practice medicine and surgery off-limits a few centuries back. Therefore, most medical doctors were Jewish, and even today, a large part of elite doctors in the US are Jewish. They have no issues in a Hindu system of medication and treatment and will judge it on its merit. After all, Yoga is unabashedly Hindu and is mainstream now in the US and consequently the rest of the world.

Given the legal framework in the USA where a doctor needs to adhere to prescribed norms to avoid malpractice, Patanjali needs to take FDA approval for its medications, hold seminars and conferences. Everything needs marketing here, and its medicine must be marketed as well.

Once successful in the United States the people will benefit from this time-tested medication system, and the debate will be over once and forever with global recognition. It should also do wonders for the corporate bottom line by catering to the world market.

Win-Win for all.

Book review of Kasheer: One of the best written books on Kashmir- A fiction yet next to reality

0

Author : Sahana Vijayakumar
Translated from Kannada by : Hemanth Shantigramha
Published by : Garuda Prakashan

Let me start the review by acknowledging the English translator: Shri Hemanth Shantigramha Ji. According to me he has done an excellent job translating the book from Kannada, the language in which the book is originally written in. Unfortunately, I do not know kannada, so I haven’t read the book in that language, so I cannot compare the translation. However, I still feel that the translator has done an excellent job , as I did feel the emotions that the author probably wanted the reader to feel, while reading this book.

Kasheer, means Kashmir in the Lost Koshur language. This is a multi narrative book and we see the events happening in the book through the perspectives of several people such as Narendra (The protagonist) who calls himself a researcher, but is much more than that, Mushtaq (a stone pelter in Kashmir), Meeradevi quote, unquote, an activist, Kashmir itself, Kailash Pandit, Hridyanath Pandit, Bashir Ahmed and many other people. Honestly, this is the only thing that I can nit-pick about this book. Too many narratives, which by the way, are all interesting to read about. So I wouldn’t particularly blame the author for not editing them out. But these many narratives might be too much for a beginner. An intermediate level reader will not have a problem though.

The book is basically about the genocide of the Kashmiri Pandits on and even before January 19, 1990. Narendra, the main protagonist, is a man who if exists in real life, can be the inspiration for many. A man with such deep knowledge and understanding of several topics, it is next to impossible for him to loose a debate about a topic, which he is well aware about, the list of those topics, by the way, is endless. The amount of information that the author has provided us through his character, about several topics such as, our history, Mohammad, Islam and many other topics, is INSANE! The amount of research done by the author is also unbelievable. Some amazing topics were truly interesting to read about, like the origin of Azaan and hijab. But reading about some things like the origin of stone pelting, it truly breaks one heart. The author has given proper sources and bibliography for almost everywhere when required. I can personally vouch for the author on this, because I spent the past two weeks, basically fact-checking the book. If you appreciate the effort, do like this video, share it with someone to whom you think it might be useful and subscribe to the channel.

So Narendra travels to Kashmir, after having a debate with Meeradevi, when she mentions that how he can comment on Kashmiris by only reading books and not actually visiting the place and seeing the plight of the people. He is welcomed by Sanjeev Kaul, a Kashmiri Pandit. Sanjeev helps Narendra discover the real Kashmir, not the reel one that tourists visit. He visits the homes of the people who stay there, the past homes of the Kashmiri Pandits, pre-exodus. He is deeply moved by seeing the standard of living that the Pandits were used to have and how they were living now. He also meets people like Kailash Pandit, who has a heart wrenching story, to make any human cry! He also helps people like Salim and Mushtaq, who are confused about their future. I truly appreciate the character of Salim. According to me, he is the true definition of a Muslim. He, unlike many others in Kashmir, but like several other true Muslims in the rest of the world, believes in peace and denies the violent aspects of his religion and religiously follows those parts that promote harmony.

The book goes in graphic details about how Kashmiri Pandits were murdered and the women abducted by Islamic extremists. The details are disturbing, yes, but also a very important part of the book, for the readers to understand why the Kashmiris had no other choice but to flee. The way these people are brainwashed, fleeing was the only choice. History is an eyewitness, these people had to flee out of their homes SEVEN TIMES! Now they are living as refugees at their own land.

I will recommend this book to each and every person, regardless of their ideologies. The Kashmir issue probably couldn’t have been written in any better fictionalized manner. Hats off to the author’s research on the topic. She had done something that no one has dared to do. I Will definitely read more of her work in the future.

Five out of Five stars.

Let us make ourselves count: We can make this nation great and Modi is with us!

March, 2019. Mainstream media, social media, office canteens, daily passenger groups in trains and buses – high decibel discussions about the impending general election centered only around one issue – Modi, the prime minister. For the first time in her life the middle-aged academic, let’s call her M, was annoyed with her privileged urban existence. She wanted to know how people really felt (media would never tell her the truth). M asked her domestic help. Unlike the educated upper strata of the society, without hemming and hawing, without going into a diatribe about secret ballot, pat came the reply – मोदीबाबा ने गाओं मे सबके लिये टयलेट बनवाया.

Modi has done something that no politician, spanning the entire spectrum of political colours, have done or even thought about. The urban elite, the creme-de-la-cream of our society constructed convoluted arguments so that nobody even contemplated doing so. It would be a mistake to think that it’s the hatred for Modi that such arguments are cropping up now. No. Actually, Modi is standing in for all of us, the entire lower strata of the society, the subalterns. He is taking the beatings, facing the disdain of the upper strata, because now they have found an embodiment of the lower classes, whom they can directly turn their ire to. It would do us good to remember that we, the lower strata of the society, have never mattered. We were needed to provide service, and to provide entertainment at the expense of being ridiculed.

M understood the equation. Though, now that she has ‘climbed up’, not everyone around her did so. Her little daughter brought home a form, from her school, full of ‘peculiar’ questions. “Does your home have a toilet? Do everyone in your family make use of the toilet? Does anyone go outside, in the open, for their needs?” Peculiar they indeed were, for a child brought up in an urban middle class home. Also for an old friend, who came from a family of barristers and upper echelon academics, and lived abroad surrounded by the trappings of wealth. On a trip back home, she meets up with her old friend and asks – “What is the big deal about the toilets? Surely, issues like the GDP, the international relations and so on are far more important? Whoever has heard of a prime minister talking about toilets in international forums? What about India’s image?”

Of course, the friend was as clueless as her daughter. But M has not forgotten. It was the late ’80s. She had not heard about Modi, back then hardly anybody had. In the canteen of one of the topmost academic institutes a dynamic young professor was holding forth, talking about his experiences as a member of a fact-finding-mission organised by a well-known NGO. He described, in some graphic detail, what the village women had told him about their morning ‘field-trip’s – how they coveted that time, how it was their time for ‘female bonding’, how that is when they discussed important issues… “It would be ridiculous to build toilets and take this ‘precious’ time away from women.” Declared the self-styled feminists.

Standing in the queue to get her cup of tea, M froze. Her hands were shaking when she finally reached the counter, the person serving tea asked her to be careful. Her entire body was shaking – shaking in disbelief, in indignation, in anger. She wanted to scream, wanted to go and shake those people up. People who were laughing merrily, people who had zero idea about and even less empathy for the uncountable village women who must live with this daily indignity, this daily humiliation, this terrible hardship.. of the ‘field-trips’ that must be made whether it was pouring or it was freezing cold, whether the woman was ill or if she was infirm.. M raged inside but she was a young student, a nobody. They were mighty professors. She could only wish for a miracle. [She didn’t know someday her prayers would be answered.]

Instead, she kept reliving her recent trip to her grandparents’ place in a remote village. Her ‘mama’, recently married, wanted to take his favourite niece to his ‘sasural’ to meet his new bride. Their destination was even more remote, requiring three change of buses, followed by a couple of miles on foot. The family home, befitting rural middle class, comprised of a number of well-built earthen houses. They were welcomed in a traditional fashion, someone pouring water as they washed their hands and feet. But M couldn’t find anyone whom she could request for a toilet trip, after the long journey. She knew, of course, it would not be a regular toilet, just a sheltered ‘pond-side’ place. She managed to catch a little girl and asked her to show the place. The girl was astonished, seeing that a grown-up woman didn’t know that one simply didn’t ‘go’ before sundown.

So the fate of women in this village were even worse than those in her ‘nanihal’. There, at least, the pond-side arrangement existed for ‘small’ needs. Her father had been disapproving of them visiting her ‘nanihal’ since she and her sisters grew out of babyhood. Despite her mother’s protests, he only agreed to day-trips that involved arduous journey through bad (mostly non-existent) roads at considerable expense (for the car hire). And they never visited during the rainy seasons. She could see his point. She remembered, even as a very small child, how she used to hold herself if she needed to ‘go’ at night, as it would have meant waking someone up to accompany her to the pond-side place. Little children mostly did not need to go far, only beyond the bamboo thicket at the edge of the compound. For older women it needed to be much further, beyond the limits of the village.

So, early in the morning women gathered for their daily ‘field trip’s. Without fail, the young women would be asked to be careful, not to stray far from the group. She realised the import of this much later, when newspapers began to report too many cases of abduction of young women in the twilight hours. She remembered her urban peers sneering and saying – “Why would young girls ‘wander around’ outside the village at such time? They themselves are to be blamed for their predicament.” Her peers, coming from affluent, urban families would not know why women needed to ‘wander around’ outside the village, in the wee hours of the day.

This narrative has been very long in the making. It was created to keep the women bereft of basic human dignity. No society ever progressed when women suffered. How do the children strive for a better life if their mothers were too busy simply trying to survive? So the lower strata stay where they have always been. They keep their heads down, they remain beholden to the ‘babu-log’, to the ‘sarkar-mai-bap’.

Then one man decided to change the equation. His actions proved his intent and his empathy. Oh yes, he is a career politician. And his actions must be, after all, driven by shrewd calculations of vote-bank politics. There have been many politicians before him, and they have all indulged in vote-bank politics. Same would be done by those who would come after. That is in the nature of things. But how many wanted (or would want) to fold in woman’s right to basic decency and dignity in their vote-bank politics? He gets all the flak for ‘abandoning’ his wife. He has been single all his life. Yet, it took a single man, a semi-monastic, to understand the plight of women – their needs, their vulnerability, and their everyday hardships. So the toilets, so the cooking gas, so the affordable menstrual hygiene products. Who has talked about such ‘taboo’ issues before? Who has dared to tackle these taboo issues before?

So people, for whom these made a difference, depend upon him. For exactly the same reason, the ‘others’ hate him. Does he do everything right? Of course not. Is he infallible? Of course not. Is his politics without blemish? Of course not. He is human, he is not perfect. He belongs to a political party that has all too many problems. But he is that man who has earned our trust. Has the handling of the current pandemic by Modi Government been without problems? No way. But haven’t we, a nation of teeming billions, a nation of inadequate medical infrastructures, a nation full of apathetic and selfish people, fought hard to keep it under control? Haven’t we done better than most of the advanced nations, who thought we’d be annihilated by this? For all its problems and faults, the central government has moved heaven and earth to save people, despite and in the face of petty political oppositions. [I shudder to think what would have happened had there been a different type of government today.]

We are going through a very difficult time, likely in for a very long haul. The only thing, that insignificant people like us are banking upon is that we have a government that cares. We have Modibaba at the helm. He would take all the flak, he would get all the bad names, but he would work for us. Perhaps that is something we can hold onto and get going, keep doing what we are supposed to do in the face of insurmountable obstacles. If Modibaba can stand up for all of us we can, at least, try to stand up for our own selves.

We can make ourselves count. We can make this nation great. Let us remember that.

Corona and rights to live: Timely treatment to the needy

Center government is doing good in this epidemic but what about state governments?

It is needless to note that our Constitution does not allow any government to be negligent with the health of Indian citizens. Article 21 of the Constitution directly places the responsibility of the lives of Indian citizens on the government. In this, it is considered the job of the government to meet the health needs of every person.

In fact, this article was added accepting the United Nations Declaration on Human Rights, which was issued on December 10, 1948. If the common man does not get treatment on time, then it was considered to be an encroachment on his right to live.

The manner in which millions of civilians escaped and were forced to lose their lives in cruel and inhuman conditions during the Corona epidemic is horrifying.

Nearly thirty three years ago, in the case of Shankar Banerjee vs Durgapur plant, the judiciary had clearly stated that in fact if someone’s condition is serious and he does not get treatment in time, then it is more cruel than hanging.

Not only this, Article 47 has been cited in the Directive Principles of State Policy that the state will consider the primary duty of people to improve health. But we see that the state is turning its back on improving health services in rural and interior areas. The responsibility is being fulfilled by opening AIIMS or medical colleges in selected cities at the central and state level.

The way the private sector has stepped into medicine, this sector of service has become a big market. The judiciary has given constitutional understanding to the states and the Center, from time to time. But it did not yield much results.

If we look at the arrangements of the Supreme Court, it is found that in some cases of 1984, 1987 and 1992, it was said that health and medicine are fundamental rights. Similarly, in the two cases of Punjab and Bengal in 1996 and 1997, the Supreme Court had said that it is the constitutional responsibility of the government to provide health facilities.

Even in the Corona era, the high courts of many states have been strongly supportive of the fact that elected governments cannot escape this fundamental right of their citizens. Last year, the Telangana High Court had clarified that fundamental rights of the people cannot be allowed to be crushed in the name of medical emergency.

Private hospitals were also included in the scope of treatment by the court. In this sequence, the Patna High Court reprimanded the state government for not preparing any action plan to deal with Covid.

He had said that if it was found that there were deaths due to lack of oxygen, the court would use its power to the fullest. The High Court expressed its anger at the news of the death of a high court official due to lack of oxygen.

In this episode, the High Courts of some other states have also taken a dig at the State Governments.

About twelve years ago, the third chapter of the National Health Bill guaranteed justice to patients. In 2018, a charter was accepted by the Union Health Ministry in 2018.

It included 17 rights for patients and it was said that hospitals are obliged to give all the records of their health and medicine to the patient. If there is an emergency, the victim also has the right to get treatment without money. Not only this, according to this charter, sick is also exempted to consult one doctor after another.

It was also said that the hospital cannot stop any sick due to delay in payment or billing process and cannot refuse to give the dead body. But allow me to say politely that in the Corona period the flag of this charter was repeatedly torn.

Crisis-hit India needs advisers with clean image and expertise

Agree that nobody whatsoever great he may be is the repository of all the worldly knowledge and experiences on all areas of human activities including national governance. Even if somebody claims for the same and get away with whatever he thinks, he may be mostly taking advantage of his privilege position, and he is either an arrogant fool or a dictator. If PM Modi has been thinking so about himself, as alleged by many, he is not right. He should be dissuaded with forceful arguments and logic by people having credible track record. However, if he is consulting the right people and experts from the ‘available lots’, then why there is hullaballoo? Is the hullaballoo there to fill newspaper pages or for one’s presence felt?

Let us examine the issue:

Here, this author is referring a column published in recent past in The Telegraph under the title “Crisis-hit India needs a leader who listens, not one focused on building his brand” authored by Ramachandra Guha, famously known as Gandhian Historian, author, and a privileged columnist as his columns use to publish in leading national newspapers regularly. In the column, Guha’s focus is mostly on PM Narendra Modi alleging that he is not listening to experts, and working on his own knowledge and convictions unlike his predecessors such as J. L. Nehru, Indira Gandhi and P. V. Narasinha Rao, who used to consult eminent personalities such as C. Rajagopalachari, Dr. S. P. Mukharjee, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, R. K. Shanmukham Chetty, Jayaprakash Narayan and A. B. Vajpayee respectively. He writes and this author quotes, “When, back in April 2020, I urged the prime minister to get the best minds on board to advise his government, the idealism underlying my proposal stemmed from my professional background. As a historian, I had known of several instances when Indian prime ministers had set aside their partisan prejudices and asked Opposition politicians to help them.”

Rama Guha gave examples that J. L. Nehru requested C. Rajagopalachari to lead a peace delegation to the West in the 1960s at the height of the Cold War, Indira Gandhi requested Jayaprakash Narayan to alert the world to the refugee crisis emanating from the Pakistani army’s crackdown on East Bengal in 1971, and P. V. Narsinha Rao requested Atal Bihari Vajpayee to lead a Government of India delegation to present India’s case for Kashmir to the United Nations in 1994. And also he noted that Nehru-Patel appointment non-Congress leaders such as Chetty, Ambedkar and Mukharjee in their government as first Finance Minister, Law Minister and Industry Minister respectively.

While Rajagopalchari, Jayaprakash and Vajpayee services were used for nation’s external affairs issues; all the ministers named above had to resign from the government before they complete their full-terms. We also know Dr. Ambedkar was not allowed to be reelected to Lok Sabha by Congress Party under the leadership of the then PM himself and Dr. Mukharjee was killed in Srinagar jail, who was arrested protesting inclusion of Art370, which gave special status and flag to J&K, in a conspiracy involving the then PM J. L. Nehru which was revealed by none other than former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2004.

Here, this author reminds those who say former PMs were listening to others with examples:
1. If Nehru had listened to his Dy. PM and his cabinet’s wisdom, then there would probably have no Kashmir issue hunting India for seven decades in international forums, and how long the same would continue, nobody can say for sure. He on his own went ahead advocating ‘plebiscite’ opening a Pandora box for several bloody conflicts in South Asia for generations in his misconceived quest to be known as man of peace in international politics.
2. China would not have border dispute with India, had Nehru’s India not help China conquer Tibet.
3. Nepal would not have been an additional problem for India in north, had Nehru not rejected Nepal King’s offer of joining India and made it one of the provinces of the country.
4. Historian writes that Modi believes in “hard work, not Harvard”. If earlier PMs were listening to Harvard, why then India had underutilized her economic growth prospect, and so mocked with remark of ‘Hindu rate of growth’ in Bretton Wood forums having close association with Harvard when China had double-digit growth?
5. In 2007, Indian Government appointed Nobel laureate Economist and academician having experience of heading London School of Economics and now a Harvard Professor Dr. Amartya Sen to build a university of international repute called Nalanda University. Here, this author wants to mention that modern economy is university-driven. (Refer my column: Post-Covid19, let’s work to get world-class degree in India). Till 2014, Dr. Sen was heading Nalanda University project. Yet, the university was a non-starter, and there is allegation of financial misappropriation against him.
6. In 2014, the then Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, a Harvard MBA and Law graduate, in his address to Davos annual business jamboree, said, “BJP PM nominee’s economics knowledge can be written on the back of a postage stamp”, while his (Chidambaram) achievement was: He inherited an economy growing above 8%, for which he appreciated his predecessor, an Indian college educated, Jashwant Singh. While he left the ministry, Indian economy growth was 4.4%.

Apart from this, under his custodianship of finance ministry, Indian banks were victims of large-scale banking frauds and got high Non-Performing Assets. Besides, during his tenure in Finance Ministry, he was blessed to get guidance from an Oxbridge educated economist PM and Economic Advisories from Harvard fraternity as Economic Advisers.

It is not only Rama Guha accuses PM Modi for not listening to experts but also many others columnists have same kind of allegations. As a leading columnist, Rama Guha himself deserves Modi’s attention. But, whether PM Modi listens to Guha or not, let’s discuss latter’s intellectual credentials. In 2018, he, a celebrated vegetarian, tweeted along with photo holding beef plate, “After a magical morning in Old Goa we had lunch in Panaji, where -since this is a BJP ruled state- I decided to eat beef in celebration.” What for did Guha tweet this? My interpretation of this issue is: He did this intentionally inviting angry reaction from people, to destroy social harmony so that he could write column after column blaming government and earn. As people including this writer questioned his intellectual credential over his beef tweet, he later deleted the same.

He also accused Hindutva forces for murder of journalist Gouri Lankesh within minutes of her murder. But, after three years of Congress workers arrest in this murder cases, eminent Gandhian Historian Guha has not felt it necessary to correct his misrepresentation of fact. Recently, he is in a mission of sabotaging Central Vista project with this or that excuse shifting his expertise from Gandhian historian to secular dietician to crime investigator to cricket administrator to (now) environmentalist-cum-city planner ignoring the facts among others that (1)Congress Party planned to go for Central Vista in 2012, (2) The age of existing Parliament Building of India and its security, (3) Employment opportunity that the project has offered during pandemic, (4) Wise support by eminent industrialist such as Ratan Tata, and last but not least (5) Supreme Court clearance to the project after examining different aspects of the projects.

Now, my potent questions are: Are there political leaders in our country at present with stature of C. Rajgopalchari, Dr. S. P. Mukharjee, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, R. K. Shanmukham Chetty, Jayaprakash Narayan and A. B. Vajpayee? Now, we have leader like Sonia Gandhi, who in the all party meeting supported government initiative in Air India plane hijack hostage crisis in 1999, while outside engaged her party leaders’ instigating hostage family members to agitate which forced government to take unfortunate hasty decision of releasing dreaded terrorists; Rahul Gandhi, who hold secret parley with Chinese embassy, which he denied first but acknowledge only after shown proof, when Indian Army was face to face with PLA in Doklam Plateau; Sharad Pawar, who had link with dreaded underworld don Dawood Ibrahim; Yashwant Sinha who instigated government to go for war against China quoting Balakot Air strike when country was lockdown due to dreaded pandemic; Akhilesh Yadav, the former CM of India’s largest state in population, who suggested people not to take Covid19 vaccines branding it BJP vaccine, and suggested people to wait till his government come to power;  etc. etc.

Now, post-recently concluded assembly elections to four states and one union territory, national party BJP came to power in one states and one union territory, and three regional parties came to power in three states. Except West Bengal, there is no post-poll violence in any other states. But, the entire opposition is silent on WB violence. Were politicians like C. Rajgopalchari, Dr. S. P. Mukharjee, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Jayaprakash Narayan and A. B. Vajpayee present now, would they have remained silent? WB voters are now facing what Kashmir Pandits had encountered in 1989-91 in Kashmir valley. Had J. L. Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi time opposition leaders went to Pakistan to beg her leaders help to remove their PMs? Had ever country’s Finance Minister (Chidambaram) raised opposition PM candidate’s credibility in international forum? Had ever country’s External Affairs Minister (Salman Khurshid) criticised Supreme Court and Election Commission of India in international forum?

In view of this, this author would rather say what Rama Guha and his likes write were to fill newspaper pages and to earn for their breads. Last but not least is: After reading this column, nobody should think that this author is opposed to expert views in governance provided genuine experts are available.

High-handed attitude of WhatsApp and it’s new privacy policy

After all why WhatsApp is so adamant on implementing it’s new Privacy Policy? What is the stand of Court and Government? Why there is so much of hue and cry? Why is the policy so muddling? These are the few questions which are bothering the users from quite few days now.

In early January this year, WhatsApp announced a new privacy policy and users were supposed to accept the policy by February failing to do so would have resulted into deleting their account. This attracted a fury of the masses as the policy intended to use and store personal data of the user supposedly for ads personalization and free (read unfair) usage as per company’s will. All these information will be shared with it’s parent company Facebook. If the policy is implemented then every data which is sent, received and uploaded on the app, can be used on any platform owned by the company for display, distribution and reproduction, even outside the country.

In the wake of rising opposition from masses and Government, company decided to push further the date of acceptance till 15th May with a twist that if policy is not accepted by then, accounts will not be deleted but will have reduced and restricted features. Meanwhile, MeitY on 18th May asked WhatsApp to rescind its new policy within next 07 days i.e. till 25th May as ministry holds the view that company’s new policy will affect the data security and user privacy. Policy can fairly be summed up as an update leading violation of ‘Right to Privacy’, if implemented.

There is a massive pressure from Indian Government and other regulatory bodies on WhatsApp to rescind its new policy. Amid all this heavy pressuring from all sides within the country, WhatsApp declared that app features will not be restricted even if the policy is not accepted by 15th May but company will continue to send pop-up notification as reminder to accept the policy. It further stated that this will continue till the Personal Data Protection Law of the Government does not come into force.

Rhetoric plea of WhatsApp

Company stated that it’s new policy will supposedly increase the security of user’s data. However, experts differ and have a valid opinion that new policy is threatening to the security of the user which is not hard to understand even for a goofy soul. The data is most safe when it is least shared with anyone or at any platform, whatsoever. WhatsApp used the example of other social media and government utility apps by claiming that the data collection, storage and re-usage by WhatsApp is similar to what is being done by those apps. It can not be denied that the policy implementation will only lead to the benefit of the company as it will increase the revenue which will be generated by improving company’s command over the data for more commercialized activities.

Even at present also, company is having a control over much of the classified data of the user including location, contact list, handset details and IP address, only to name a few.

So, the update is?

Time period given to the company, to invalidate it’s new privacy policy by the Government, ended on 25th May and like an arrogant player, it refused to invalidate the new policy and has confirmed that policy will not be rescinded. Company in it’s statement cited that it has submitted it’s reply to the Government. Further, adding to company’s ‘does not give a damn’ attitude, WhatsApp moved to Delhi High Court and filed a lawsuit against Indian Government for the laws that were supposed to come into effect from 25th May which was also the deadline for the social media giant to accept them. Instead of abiding by the guidelines and accepting the laws, on the drop of the hat, at the very last day of the deadline company decided to knock the gate of High Court to ‘prevent the privacy of the users from being jeopardized’.

It stated that new rules in the questioned IT laws are an ‘invasion of privacy’ and in favor of it’s claim company stated that in order to comply with the new law, WhatsApp would have to break it’s end-to-end encryption key for senders and receivers. It further added that the new law is a straight violation of the landmark judgement passed by Hon’ Supreme Court in The Puttaswamy case in 2017. Strengthening it’s stand further, WhatsApp stated that new law undermines people’s right to privacy as it requires to trace origin of the every message/chat which is equivalent of keeping the fingerprint record of every message sent on WhatsApp.

This shows, may be, WhatsApp has no intention to protect the privacy of users however, it has every intention of not complying with the government guidelines and laws thus framed by it on various pretexts. Filing a lawsuit against the government strengthens these intentions of the company that how it is adamant on keeping an upper hand over adherence to the regulations, that are in force or might be in force soon, of a country by not complying to them and thus, making a mockery of the system.

Goebbels is back and he’s brought the 2nd wave with him

Joseph Goebbels was Hitler’s ‘Propaganda Minister’ & his most famous quote was: “Repeat a lie a thousand times and it becomes the truth”. What we see happening today around us in India since March 2021 is a masterclass in Goebbelsian Propaganda from the ‘Dirty Tricks Department of CONg’.

Aided by another far more sophisticated #toolkit from their international collaborators, this time the CONg has spun a seriously sinister web of lies & deceit around the Modi Govt. The 2nd wave started in Punjab Maharashtra Kerala & Chattisgarh (all CONg/Left ruled states), and its no surprise that Punjab which was the epicenter of the so called ‘farmer protests’ was actually the origin of the 2nd wave.

When Narendra Modi chaired a COVID review meeting with CMs on March 17, 2021 & alerted the CMs about a lurking potential surge in cases Mamata Bannerjee & Bhupesh Baghel were busy with election rallies. They didn’t even bother to attend this meeting. Rahul Gandhi was busy doing pushups amd large rallies in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

But what did most of the MSM outrage about with all its fury? Modi and Shah rallies in West Bengal and Kumbh Mela-this at a time when Maharashtra was contributing well over 60% of the national daily caseload, but not a word on the MVA Govt for obvious reasons.

If you recall RaGa had a repeat of his mamma mia’s call of the conscience moment when he called of rallies in WB and a day or two later announced that he had tested positive for COVID-even with RaGa’s IQ one can join the dots & figure out what really had happened. All this was basically to pressurise Modi-Shah to immediately pull out of WB because by then the BJP had started to look like a serious contender. Mamata’s rallies meanwhile continued in full glare of media but they looked the other way conveniently,

Once Modi-Shah pulled out of WB tour, darbaris of the erstwhile UPA sultanate went on a massive fear mongering overdrive with articles in international media on how India’s healthcare infra was crumbling,  photos of funeral pyres of unfortunate casualties of the pandemic were sensationalized and these were literally sold by the photographer in a pukeworthy display of crass commercialization and tragedy porn. All their efforts to denigrate Modi went in vain as EU leaders stood strongly with Modi and lauded his fight against COVID. India’s leadership in Vaccine development and #VaccineMaitri to 70+ countries was being appreciated by the world.

Amidst all this – Dilli Ka Malik slowly took centerstage with his shenanigans. The inventor of ‘World Class Mohalla Clinics’ despite being caught with his knickers down & in a twist on multiple fronts came out unscathed largely due to covering fire from his ‘media friends’ who were more than happy to shield their biggest advertiser.

AK spent 150 Crores on self promotion between Jan-Mar 2021 but set up only 1 out of the 8 Pressure Swing Adsorption plants of Oxygen that he had received an allocation from the Centre way back in Sept 2020. Dilliwalas were suffering & dying but Dilli Ka Maalik was busy doing the only thing he has ever done since becoming CM – ‘Blame Narendra Modi’  for everything including shortage of Oxygen which was entirely his fault.

When Centre put forth a demand of an Oxygen Audit in Delhi, AAP panicked. Around the same time 7000 Oxygen Concentrators were allegedly found on the hotel premises of a a prominent businessman, Navneet Kalra allegedly close to both the Gandhis & Kejriwal, to make matters worse for Kejriwal, an AAP leader Imran Hussain was allegedly caught with a large quantity of Oxygen.

But once again ‘friendly’ media rushed to the rescue of their biggest client – both these incidents were barely carried by media. With their help, Yugpurush smartly shifted the narrative to shortage of vaccines & no prizes for guessing whom he blamed again : Narendra Modi & his #VaccineMaitri.

Lies, however don’t hold ground for too long and it was revealed that Delhi Govt had ordered for only 5 lakh…yes you read it right… 5 lakh vaccines while other states were ordering in Crores. But once Kejriwal blamed #VaccineMaitri all other cohorts in other states, media & Corporate bigwigs also started shouting the same lies in one voice just like Joseph Goebbels.  There were agendas within agendas this time:

1)Pressurise GoI to allow Pfizer etc without bridging trials

2)The states who had demanded right to procure their own Vaccine Quota from open market had failed miserably and this was the only way to shift focus from their failure and blame Modi.

3)Public outrage was instantly fuelled because most of India was not aware of SII’s obligations to GAVI nations and exports to AZ international markets contingent upon which they secured the deal with Astra Zeneca to make Covishield in India. Modi became villain instantly for exporting vaccines while his own countrymen were facing shortages.

This entire propaganda has been skillfully planned with continuous shifting of goalposts and now the target is GoI’s #CentralVistaProject. However since they have no real issues to take on Modi Govt they can only resort of chicanery and fool a section of the Indian public with their lies repeated a thousand times till it sounds like the truth. BUT its not the truth and Destiny’s Child-Narendra Damodardas Modi will once again emerge victorious along with 100 Cr Indians

Living in fear- the Corona fallout

0

Coronavirus situation has progressed from being a situation of Denial in Feb 2020 to a situation of Fear in Apr 2021. Owing to a mix of Innumerable TV discussions, Govt guidelines and unlimited Social Media “Knowledge” sharing, there has been a resultant confusion more than information.

It has become easier to know “How NOT to save yourself from Covid” than “How to save yourself from Covid”… because of unlimited flow of Do’s and Dont’s!

Those discovering themselves as being infected find themselves suddenly into a feeling of unbelievability as they feel that didn’t falter anywhere in protecting themselves and their family. Something went wrong inexplicably and they never get an answer to that “something”.

When you begin to feel sick due to the extensive use of sanitisers & disinfectants and start to falsely fear that you got infected! God Forbid.. Fear has taken control of our lives! Yes! Even before we knew it and how much brave or strong we may be portraying ourselves to be. We fear breathing in fresh air because we fear that the air is not fresh anymore that it used to be a year ago.

We fear putting on the Air Conditioner in scorching summer because we fear that Coronavirus may not crawl into our room through the Air Conditioning. We fear to handle vegetables because we fear that what if the poor vegetable may be “loaded” with that invisible virus. When we see people braving the fear and holidaying at hill stations & returning rejuvenated, we actually wait to know whether they continue to be safe ! Still we are unable to gather confidence to break-free

If a recently infected person presses our door bell, we unassumingly open the door only to live in fear for few nights as to why the hell did we open the door! It’s only after several internal discussions & self assurances of being at a distance that the fear does dilute. We fear that we may not mistakenly make mistakes that frustrate our healthy living. We stay caged for over a year now! Fear has begun to flow more in our veins than blood does.

We thus Hope & Pray… that Hope belies our Fear and we begin to actually live… again.

• BVRAAM
• AEW&C
• ATAGS
