The AMUL model: How to save Indian farmers from suicide

0

Please…
no loan waivers,
no suicide compensations,
no tax exemptions,
no free electricity,
no unlimited water,
no politically expedient blah-blah-blah…

There are 6.25 lakh villages in India with about 12 crore farmers (cultivators) and 15 crore agricultural labourers. Over two-thirds of the farmers are marginal, having less than one hectare of land under cultivation. These farmers and their labourers are the most vulnerable population for suicides.

The situation of Indian farmer today is quite similar to that of the dairy farmer in British India. In the early 1940s, Gujarat’s dairy farmers were forced to sell to the monopolistic British company, Polson Dairy, who arbitrarily fixed low prices and paid them badly- very much like today’s wholesale agents and traders. Then, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel directed Morarji Desai to organize the dairy producers into village milk cooperatives. These cooperatives were further developed by Dr. Verghese Kurien.

In 1946, the Anand Milk Union Limited (AMUL) was formed. Amul directly purchased milk every day from dairy farmers, quality tested, stored and sold the milk and milk products across India. Today, Amul is a Rs.38,000-crore company with 750 employees supplied by 36 lakh dairy farmers and selling to over 60 countries across the world. No dairy farmer commits suicide as they get a fair price for their produce directly from the consumer, without any bleeding by greedy middle-men.

Now, why can’t AMUL’s success story in dairy be replicated in other farm products like cereals, pulses, vegetables, fruits, fisheries, etc.? Certainly, Yes! But, how? The answer is the “Three-Tier Amul Model”. This is a cooperative structure which comprises:

  • A dairy cooperative society at the village level affiliated to…
  • A milk union at the district level which in turn is federated into…
  • A milk federation at the state level

Milk collection is done daily at the village dairy society, milk procurement and processing at the district milk union, and finally milk products marketing at the state milk federation. The structure was evolved in Gujarat and thereafter replicated all over the country under the “Operation Flood” program during the Lal Bahadur Shastri era.

To replicate the Amul Model in agricultural products and save our farmers from extinction, India urgently needs an “Operation Secure Farmer” in which a national company- say Bharat Farm Cooperatives Federation Limited (BFCFL) is incorporated via public-private partnership. BFCFL’s first and foremost order of business is to establish farm cooperative societies at village level across all 6.25 lakh villages in India. This requires the village Panchayats to sign memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with the company. Specifications of price and quality should be clearly spelt out in these MOUs.

  • At every harvesting season, BFCFL’s trucks should visit the villages and measure, quality-check, and collect the produce directly from farmers. Within 7 days, the farmers should be paid via direct funds transfer into their Jan Dhan accounts.
  • Next, the collected produce should be brought to the warehouses of farm unions set up at the district level. These warehouses at the 640-odd districts across India should be well designed and built to prevent wastage/ loss due to rot, pests, and pilferage. The warehouses should also function as “food factories” by processing the incoming produce by cleaning and packaging them into salable packages—say, under the brand name “Aahaar”. Fumigation, radiation, refrigeration, vacuum/ nitrogen packing, etc. should be done in these factories. Warehouse performance should be strictly monitored on wastage and pilferage (“dump and shrink”) parameters.
  • Finally, these factories should be technologically linked to state-level marketing offices which would facilitate distribution to the customers at markets in towns and cities across the state. Retail traders (not large wholesalers) and end consumers could place orders online or via telephone or directly to the sales agents from BFCFL and the nicely pre-packaged, preserved products would be delivered directly by the company from its nearest factory/ warehouse. In order to avoid black-marketing (and consequent generation of black money), customers should be informed to purchase agricultural products only from BFCFL, i.e., Aahaar.

Besides eliminating the scourge of seasonal price rise, BFCFL would completely eradicate farmer suicides. However, vested political interests, middle-men cartels, and black-money hoarders would try to sabotage BFCFL during the initial months. So, the Government of India could initiate this monolithic project nation-wide by partnering with large private companies (such as the Tata, Birla, Reliance groups or even Amazon Pantry). Dynamic youngsters could start at the district level and expand to state level and beyond over time, like the indomitable Dr. Varghese Kurien.

ISIS is nothing but Islam

0

As the world quivers to the savagery of radical Islamic attack in Barcelona; one really wonders what is all the hatred about? World leaders were quick to condemn  this attack; some were bold enough take the name of religious ideology that prompted it; while many refrained from doing it; by just calling it cowardly. ISIS is something inhumane; insidious; no person would ever differ that it is the world’s deadliest organisation that has destroyed the middle east; posed as a potential threat to world peace and we still debate whether Islam is the ideology that prompts it! I argue it is. There are many reasons and proofs that can be given to prove the point.

1. Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi:

ISIS’s Caliph; Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi is a devout Muslim who prays five times a day and has a doctorate in Islamic studies that too from a university in the heartland of where Islam was born. Naturally he is well erudite regarding Quran and its teachings. This can be seen from his ‘address videos’ that surface from time to time.

2. Large number of Muslims joining ISIS:

Now this point can explain my argument further. We have witnessed that a very large number of Muslims have joined the ‘Holy Jihad’ waged by ISIS. And if we were to check their background; 65-70% of them are well educated; economically sound and large number of them from progressive countries. So why do they join such regressive organisation? The answer lies in Quranic verse 9:29 which orders them to fight against non-believers who do not believe in Allah and they will be guaranteed paradise.

3. Killing of other Muslims:

Now this is a tricky one. Someone will surely argue that why would ISIS kill Muslims in the middle east? Well Quranic verse 9:73 says; “O prophet; fight against the disbelievers and the ‘HYPOCRITES’ and be harsh upon them. And their refuge is hell.; and wretched is their destination.” The word hypocrite clearly explains the killing of fellow Muslims by ISIS. ISIS considers Muslims of middle east who are westernised as hypocrites and thus their slaughter is justified in Quran.

4. Breaking the myth of moderate Muslims:

Many of the Muslims call themselves moderate just to distance themselves or make themselves safe. But believe me there is no such thing as ‘Moderate Muslims’. Quran 9:111 says ” lndeed Allah has purchased from believers their lives and properties for that they will have paradise. They fight for the cause if Allah; so they kill and get killed.” This verse itself busts the myth of moderate Muslims. It can be clearly concluded; that Allah demanded all the Muslims to believe in him to kill for him or get killed. So a person can either be a believer or non-believer but not a moderate.

5. Persecution of many in the middle east:

It is very well clear that ISIS wants to establish an Islamic Caliphate ruled by Sharia Law. Sharia in itself is a set of regressive laws and violation of basic human rights. We see ISIS persecuting all those who oppose it. Well…. Quran 5:33 commands; “Indeed the penalty for those who wage a war against Allah and his messenger and strive upon earth, corruption is none but they be crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides. That is for them disgrace in the world and punishment.” This explains the persecution and slaughter of those who oppose sharia; considered to be Allah’s Laws.

6. Slaughter of Yezidis:

Yezidis are the people who have their religion derived from Zoroastrianism, Islam and Christianity. They believe in a benevolent peacock angel and practice Gnostic faith. Thus are considered polytheists and devil-worshipers. Thus in Quran 9:5 Allah commands, “And when the sacred months have passed; kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit and wait for them at every place  ambush; but if they repent establish prayer and give Zakah; let them go. Indeed Allah is forgiving and Merciful”. This explains why the Yazidis were given options of either to convert or get killed.

7. Treatment of Yazidi Women:

We have seen the inhumane and brutal rake of Yazidi women at the hands of these terrorists. Many said; terrorists used to pray before raping them. The rape of a non-Muslim women is justified in Islam. Quran 4:24 “And (also prohibited to you are all) married woman except those your right hand possess.” This verse justifies the brutal; ruthless rape of a non-Muslim womam at the hands of a Muslim man.

8. Destruction of holy sites:

This can be a debating issue. That if ISIS had anything to do with Islam why would it destruct its holy sites? Well, Islam considers justification of any object as holy as polytheism and idolatry and is averse to it. In Hadith Prophet Mohammed says, “Not leave any idol without leveling it.”

9. Why don’t Muslims heartily condemn Islamic Terrorists:

We see many Muslims giving support to ISIS and it keeps on increasing. No believing Muslim condemns ISIS; even if they do; they do it because of fear of backlash and Islamophobia. Well; Prophet Mohammed in a Bukhari says; “None of you has faith until he loves his brother for what he loves for himself”.

If you carefully read ‘The Quran’ you will surely understand the ideology that it promotes and what ISIS is all about.

Isn’t it high time to either denounce or demand reforms in this hateful neighbourhood we are forced to live with?

Indian Feminism and its strange romance with Islam

0

India Today  did a great job of exposing ‘The love Jihad’ and ‘Nikah Halala’ systems. After seeing all the things; I wondered what took it so long for this inhumane and insidious practices to come up to the mainstream media and what was more shocking was the defying silence of Indian ‘Liberal’ women who masquerade as the flag bearers of feminism and gender equality and who generally discard ‘Hinduism’ to be defiantly regressive to women and are at forefront to criticize and denounce each and every aspect of the religion; under the umbrella of womanism. But then I understood that the practices of ‘Triple Talaq’, ‘Nikah Halala’, ‘Love Jihad’ are in Islam.

Ah! Indian liberando are bound to keep mum.  Petty liberal logic of shielding the ill aspects of ‘Peaceful’ religion to sound anti-communal. What is more surprising is that the Indian feminists who gang up to protest against dowry; Karwa Chauth etc are defiantly silent on ‘Halala Marriage’ which is not only violation of women’s rights but also a curb on basic Human Rights. Doesn’t the condition of a helpless woman; forced to have sex with a stranger to be back to her estranged husband; bleed the hearts of this so called feminists? Doesn’t the woman with her small children; who is thrown out of her house upon giving Talaq in a sitting; without alimony and having nothing to do appeal these ‘feminists’?

Moreover, the women who are forced to wear a burqa; in a hot country like India; doesn’t their condition shake the conscience of this ‘liberal’ women? I have never seen women who proudly declare themselves as ‘Feminists’ like Shabana Azmi; Rana Ayyub; Sagarika Ghose; Nidhi Razdan; Shehla Rashid; Pankhuri Pathak;  Barkha Dutt protest against this brutally regressive and medieval practices. Are all the #Notinmyname protests entitled to denounce Hinduism and Brahminism? Doesn’t the plight of this women qualify to your so called ‘promoting equality’ marches and protests?

Riddles in the Risala- 1: Abrahamic religions should be probed into

It is common knowledge that Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the leader of our Constitutional committee wrote several critical books/ essays on Hinduism, the most prominent among them being ‘Riddles on Ramayana’. While Dr. Ambedkar did write about Islam, I feel there are still some riddles that require answers. In this series, I try to examine some of them from a Hindu’s perspective. Risala means ‘message’ Arabic and refers to the Holy Quran.

Why did Prophet Abraham break idols?

Is it ok for a so-called Prophet to violate someone else’s faith for no reason other than fanaticism. The story of young Abraham tells us that when Abraham saw the elders of his tribe worshiping idols, he questioned them and while they were away broke all of them except the biggest of them. When questioned, he said that the biggest statue broke all the others calling their stupidity in not accepting that idols don’t speak.

Here Abraham appears like a rational minded myth-buster, an absolutely scientific guy. Wait! This needs to be decoded properly.

1. Did Abraham think that idols cannot speak and hence should not worshiped? No. Holy Quran says that Allah had already invested Abraham with the knowledge of false gods and the need to condemn them. Abraham’s actions were, thus, not out of his own reasoning but were based on Allah’s command. Muslims couldn’t have taken Abraham as their prophet had he acted as per his volition.

2. What has he given in return? It may sound like good reasoning not to worship life less idols having been rooted in dogma. But then what have we got in return? more dogma. Belief in fairy tales, actually angels and a jealous God who henceforth decided to speak only to select individuals guiding them to create strife on earth. The only proof of existence of this one God is the destruction of those who refused to believe in him by his minions on earth and some self-fulfilling prophecies.

Iconoclasm is a recurring theme in Abrahamic religions. The subsequent messengers/prophets like Moses and Muhammed have ordered breaking idols (of false gods). Now in today’s ‘secular’ world what if a divinely inspired non-believer who gets a guidance from his God / Angel destroys a mosque / synagogue calling it worship of a false God?

How a Puranic-Hindu would have responded such a situation?

Well, we did have our own monotheists. For example, Rakshasas were hell bent on worshiping only one God i.e., Shiva to the exclusion of all else. Not just that, they hated Vishnu to the core. Now, when Hiranyakashipa demanded the infant Prahlada to show him Hari (Vishnu), Prahlada replied at Hari was everywhere and hence everything was worthy of worship. Here the wise Prahlada was talking of God’s omnipresence, which his father could never understand until the Lord manifested Himself in a pillar and put an end to his ignorance and misery. Every time there was Adharma, this God descended upon earth to establish Dharma. Unlike the one God, he did not order his minions to fight for Him. Had there been a Prahlada among the Babylonians, the largest idol would have spoken to Abraham.

P.S: While researching about this piece, I figured out that the story of Abraham breaking idols is not a part of old testament, but was a midrash by a Rabbi in 2nd century. Somehow, this story reached Allah who then included it in the holy Quran.

The new world order- Is World War III a possibility?

0

When the World War II ended post fall of Germany & Japan by 1945, the world had lost 60 million people by then which was quite a remarkable number at that time. Europe had borne the brunt of this loss the most, especially the Soviet Union despite its victory. The British Empire, the largest at that time was on verge of decline and its prized possessions like India was getting restless for her independence. The Empire had no choice but to oblige, given the tremendous strain on their financial resources that got depleted post World War II. France was devastated even after its victory. And Italy, Germany and Japan were left to ruins of the glorious past they had.

Post World War II, and with the formation of United Nations, everyone hoped that world would be a safe place to live in. But it wasn’t to be. After Hitler’s desire to rule Europe, that triggered World War II, it was West’s (primarily US which was the only West Power as a superpower post fall of British Empire) desire to make the world a Capitalist economy (where the rich become richer and poor become poorer) and the need to check Soviet Union which was a Communist economy (where state owns everything and decides who will be rich and poor), led to the onset of the Cold War. A war not fought with weapons but with the need to be better than other. It all started with the Bifurcation of Germany on US/USSR lines in 1949 and ironically also ended with the fall of Berlin Wall in  1989. Although it initial it seemed as a battle for being the global superpower in information, technology, space and weapons, it eventually ventured way beyond it by proxy wars on foreign soils.

It started with Korean War in 1950 and ended with Soviet Union’s retreat from Afghanistan in 1989. Both Powers had been eye to eye for 40 years to be better than other, threatening to end the world with a Nuclear Holocaust which had reached its brink in 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. During this 40 years, they had fought proxy wars in Korea, Cuba, Vietnam, Indian Subcontinent and Afghanistan to name a few. But with the fall of Berlin Wall in 1989 and fall of the Soviet Union in 1990 with its dissolution into 15 new countries, the world eventually had only one superpower, The United States of America. The lowering of Soviet Flag at Kremlin on 25th December 1991 led the Stars and Stripes flag to fly high and the world hoped that peace was now really possible. But that was not to be. Famous US President Ronald Reagan who is credited to be the one to have ended Cold War once said, “Government isn’t the solution to the problem, Government is the problem”. It was true. The Cold War for 40 years has sowed the seeds of an imminent World War III in future due to the proxy wars of these countries during the Cold War. But UK, Germany & France which are at forefront during first 2 wars are nowhere near to be the global forces again. Instead of them, the new kids on the block which were nowhere in the picture when World War II ended, are now at the forefront who could determine the New World Order in the years to come.

The countries that today have a say at the New World Order are:

  • USA- This country is still the strongest nation in the free world even  after 70 years and still leads the World Order. It is still and will always remain the Toughest SOB to beat.
  • Russia- Despite its bifurcation in 1991, it still commands respect and power in global order. Given its large land area and tough terrain, it still cant be defeated by any country in the world in military warfare. If Hitler and US for 40 years couldn’t, no one ever can.
  • China- The imminent threat to USA, as the only strong communist economy remaining in the world today. It has both what Russia and USA had during 1960’s. A strong economy (until the recent past) and a strong military combined.
  • Israel- The Israel- Palestine issue is an issue for ages. This country has fought its Arab neighbours for last 70 years and has still remained undefeated. Easily, one of the most shrewd country in the world. Any spark in the region again, would could trigger the war on religious lines.
  • India-  The country which was known to be non aligned to anyone, in recent years has known to take tough stands for their interests. While they were close with Soviet Union due to USA’s alliance with Pakistan earlier, in recent years have shown friendliness towards USA for its economic interests. They have balanced their scales well between Russia and USA for its military and economic interests but this bubble can burst when it would come to taking sides. In recent times, is emerging as a recognizable force in world order. The West is promoting it to negate China. India has one of the most volatile border disputes with its neighbours ie. Pakistan and China
  • Iran- The only remaining West defiant nation in the Arab World, could well determine the new order in the Arab World in future.
  • North Korea- The surprise entrant in this list. Of late, this isolated country has been daring the world for an armed conflict especially the West. Any trigger in the Korean Peninsula would bring the world into a full fledged war.
  • Pakistan- The notorious neighbour of India, is unofficially considered as haven for terrorists by the world, with the breeding of Mujahideen during the Soviet-Afghan War, which eventually led to formation of Taliban & Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and numerous terrorist groups aimed at destroying India for the Kashmir cause.

While the first two World War’s were fought over sovereignty pride and for pride over Europe, the next one would be primarily on religion and then for land. So this brings us to the countries which could actually trigger it:

  • Israel- This country has both the trigger points. A disputed border with Palestine, Egypt, Syria, Jordan plus a religious crusade with Arabs (Muslims). As it is said, the situation in Arab Land is now like a ticking time bomb, waiting to explode.
  • India & Pakistan- These countries have fought tooth and nail in 4 wars now. These wars started on a religious ground post partition of homeland of India for Hindus and Muslims in 1947. It was coupled with fight for land of Kashmir which both the parties claim to be theirs. In legal terms, India has the Instrument of Accession signed by Maharaja of Kashmir in 1948. So it has unquestionable right over the land. However as per Pakistan, India still hasn’t held the plebiscite which UN instructed to do after ceasefire in 1949 and it feels people of Kashmir would surely vote for acceding to Pakistan if its held. The terrorism harbored by Pakistan and development of nuclear weapons by both countries in the past 40 years has made the Indian subcontinent very restless and its waiting for patience of India to explode.
  • North Korea- The isolated country has a historic border dispute with South Korea. This country remains today the only country which could actually bring back horrors of Cold War on the forefront again. North Korea is near to Russia & China and any aggression of West could be seen by them as a threat to their lands and could trigger a war.

Everyone thought that post formation of UN and globalization, the world would be inter-connected and inter-dependent so much that wars would now be a remote possibility. But its rightly said “Religion isn’t the cause of war, but an excuse”. And the World War III would be on those lines only. As all religions state that mankind would end one day due to huge catastrophe. It will surely be a man-made catastrophe. And religion would be the cause for it. This has been severed beyond repair and its only a matter of time or years when we have to face the reality of living in shadows of a World War again. Also, if it happens, post it, there wont be any superpowers and the countries if they survive wont be even a shadow of their past.

“An eye for an eye makes the world blind”. Precisely the reason, why World War III is a possibility. (While I hope it doesn’t for mankind to be present for centuries ahead)

This is my first blog. I have tried to convey my genesis on the topic as far as possible. I would be coming up with my short insights on various other topics around the globe in the future too

The saffron surge: The rise and rise of BJP

0

By the time I publish this, BJP will have successfully started running another State Government (this time with JDU in Bihar). The recent events were no less than a political thriller, but the game-plan from being an opposition party to being the co-party in power in Bihar has reaffirmed the fact that BJP is now more of a Joint Stock Company than a political party. It wants to make profits (in this case their dream of achieving Congress Mukt Bharat) and its party rank and file are working tirelessly to make that happen. Their mandate is to deliver results to shareholders (Public). Their PR Team is the best in the business. No one is even near to them while it comes to marketing and campaigning. The Council of Ministers in the Government are best in their jobs. Their CEO Amit Shah is like the street-smart CEO which the global giants have at their helm and is ensuring with his wit and wisdom that their dream is achieved. And with Chairman as Narendra Modi, the brand BJP is scaling great heights like never before.

With almost 50% states being directly/indirectly governed by BJP, they are well on their course. They are already drawing their strategy for the remaining key states of West Bengal, Orissa and Tamil Nadu where they never had any presence. Back channeling has started, and it would be interesting how the state elections would pan out for these states in future. Given the pity state these 3 states are currently in, it would just help the cause for BJP. A pact with God-like Rajnikanth in Tamil Nadu, anti incumbency in Orissa and fall of grace for Mamta Banerjee due to the recent communal riots might just seal the deal for BJP.

BJP is currently at a point where it can easily be termed as invincible. Its winning almost everything in the past 3 years except for few minor hiccups like Delhi. Its invincibility is similar to Congress’s post independence till Emergency. India’s foreign relations are at the best ever. The Big 5 are coping up to India namely USA, UK, Russia, Germany, France. China and Pakistan still remain volatile but kept in check due to good diplomacy decisions.

Domestically, stock markets are breaching new heights, there is hope in the job market. The PR team is promoting idea of New India and making people believe it. A new tax regime is being treated as a festival and people are convinced to believe that life will be great under GST (Irony-by paying tax life will be easy and happy). A demonetization measure (a brilliant initiative although poorly executed) has been promoted to the people that it will end corruption. So in all people are in awe and complete admiration for this Government something that FDR enjoyed post Depression in 1930s in USA.

But with unchallenged supremacy comes uncontrollable mob followers who usually take law in their hands due to their proximity to the supreme party. The recent mob lynching incidents, the personal/ sexual remarks on journalists/ spokespersons of other parties indicate that India is still miles away as far as political/ social maturity is concerned. Elections are like sports. Someone wins, someone loses. Likewise, someone has a right wing ideology or someone has a left wing ideology. Someone is communal, someone is secular. Its fair to have ideologies. But forcing them on others or shaming others who don’t share similar ideologies, is certainly not the way India should be going ahead with, if it wants to achieve global supremacy. USA achieved unparalleled supremacy due its open and free culture back home (slavery was their biggest problem and they solved it more than a century back).

BJP’s rise to power is often compared with rise of Nazi Party in Germany in 1930s. Many critics of Mr Modi have compared him to Hitler (for their anti minority stands). Hitler was a nationalist and patriot like Mr Modi but the Holocaust was the most unpardonable sin he committed for which history will always remember him in bad light. With the ghosts of 2002 legally acquitting Modi, he will never have the stain as that of Hitler’s. But why the comparison then? Its simple. Both had similar growth paths. Forced loss of national pride in their growing years (Emergency/WW1 defeat), victorious and unchallenged rise to supremacy (2014/1933), trait of channelizing an entire nation towards sovereignty pride. The slow and steady BJPnisation of India even though draws similarities to rise of Nazi Party in Germany, the circumstances in Germany in 1930s and India in 2010s are quite different. They had lost land and respect post WW1 while India just had a non growing economy. So, the comparison is actually baseless.

However, if you look at it a holistic level, the current scheme of things I mentioned above with respect to increasing mob lynching and public shaming incidents paints a bad picture. If not controlled, it conveys that the Government is giving free hand for the same and then the situation goes out of hand. It can lead to 2 scenarios- The Government and the mobs having utmost control over the land or a slow and steady gaining public outcry which can eventually bring such Governments down (Egypt). So, Mr. Modi’s government should take note of this at the earliest and don’t let the situation get out of hand. For, the history only remembers the misdeeds more than good deeds. One stain can take years to wipe off (who knows it better than Mr Modi). Modi Government is doing a good job (at least that’s what is the talk on the ground). And if he wishes to go down in history as one of India’s greatest leaders, he needs to do some serious amends at the situation in home.

Abraham Lincoln once observed, “Nearly all men can stand adversity. But to test a man’s character, give him power.”

I just hope that Mr Narendra Modi takes us on the path of glory and prosperity and shows the character in taking tough decisions in social, economic, political spectrum in the days to come. Then the idea of New India by 2022 will surely mean something and all souls in Indian Mainland would actually enjoy basking in the glory of the same.

Jai Hind.

Factual rebuttal to the baseless & unsubstantiated arguments of Hamid Ansari

0

The idea of Muslim appeasement and romantic fascination with Islamists is not new to Indians nor is the peculiar obnoxious behaviour of secularists to portray the majority Hindu community as the villain. What is new in the recent malicious campaign is the use of constitutional position to become the messiah for one section of community while rejecting and degrading the other.

From the day, PM Modi govt took oath, the liberals have systematically targeted and created a false narrative that this govt is only for Hindus. Without any evidence and facts they have tried to demonize them and malign their overall outlook.

In the garb of secularism these torch bearers of democracy have used constitutional position with the support of the elite liberalities to propagate their agenda and narrative of pseudo-secularism. Yes I m talking about our ex Vice President Dr. Hamid Ansari. I would here like to qoute M.C.Chagla our education minister when Pandit Nehru was PM. In his autobiography ‘Roses in December’ he says and I qoute him

‘I m Hindu by culture, Muslim by birth and Englishman by education’.

Compare that to our ex VP Hamid Ansari. He has reduced himself to be an out and out Muslim fundamentalist whether by culture or education. Recently in one his interviews to Rajya Sabha as outgoing Vice President he made some sensational, eye grabbing but prejudiced biased and baseless remarks. It took social media by storm. There were arguments and counter arguments on it.

Let us analyse it point by point and give a rebuttal on why his views are not only baseless but just a mischievous propaganda. But unlike Mr. Ansari’s, my arguments are based purely on facts.

1: No Mr Hamid Amsari our Prime Minister is serious about law and order and have condemned vigilantism: – In reality it is Ansari’s religious bias that has clouded his thought process.

Ansari said that he has had numerous conversations with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his cabinet regarding the increasing incidents of violence but also indicated a lack of seriousness on the part of the prime minister and his cabinet to control the volatile situation at hand. “Well, there is always an explanation and there is always a reason. Now it is a matter of judgement, whether you accept the explanation, you accept the reasoning and its rationale,” said Ansari.

These words shows the narrow mindedness and prejudiced thinking of our ex Vice President. Just like liberal propaganda factories masquerading as champions of Human Rights Ansari’s narrative is fixed. Modi has always condemned such incidents. In fact I would say PM went a step ahead and stressed extensively that cow protection is important but not vigilantism in the name of it. Not once or twice but many times. One such example is while delivering a speech to mark the centenary of the Sabarmati ashram in Ahmedabad. The prime minister said unleashing violence against others went against the ideals of the Father of the Nation.

“Killing people in the name of ‘gau bhakti’ is not acceptable. This is not something Mahatma Gandhi would approve,” he said. “Let’s all work together. Let’s create the India of Mahatma Gandhi’s dreams. Let’s create an India our freedom fighters would be proud of,” said Modi. “No person in this nation has the right to take the law in his or her own hands.”

In fact recently in the Supreme Court, the government officially stated that it does not support cow vigilantism and it was for the states to crack down on such self-styled groups. Solicitor general Ranjit Kumar, appearing for the Centre, said law and order was a state subject and it was up to them to curb such incidents. Whether it is vigilantism in Rajasthan or Haryana the BJP ruled states have taken necessary and immediate action and respective arrests have been made. If one gets data on vigilantism pre 2014 it was still a problem then. In fact if you go back to the Aklaq case UP was still under Akhilesh rule. It was Samajwadi Party that failed on law and order. But Mr Ansari’s secular credentials will be damaged if he criticizes an ‘alleged’ secular party. He further said the conditions in North India were worse as compared to South. Now doesn’t that reflects his original motive which is not stressing on vigilantism but Modi bashing. He indirectly wants to say that as most North Indian states are under BJP govt, violence is increasing but he doesn’t utter a word on horrific killings of RSS workers in southern states of Kerala and Karnataka under left and congress rule.

2. Muslims are safest in India and there is no threat to them:

In the interview Mr. Ansari goes on to say that Muslims are feeling threatened under the current establishment.
No Mr. Ansari, minorities are safest and most secure in India and who else other than you who have served as Ambassadors to countries like UAE, Iran and Saudi Arab before becoming Vice President would know. Tell me Sir, does any of these countries give their due rights to minorities? A Hindu minority is not allowed to do Sankranti Puja or even keep a photo of a Hindu God in their pocket? While being an ambassador to these countries have you ever helped or bailed them out? Is there any such restrictions in India on our Minorities? But that does not imply one should propagate hatred in these religious institutions. Various intelligence reports have stated that Mosques and Madrassas are being used to radicalize Muslim youth . As an eminent Muslim scholar how many times you have raised your voice against it Mr Ansari?

How many times you have applied yourself to de-radicalize Muslim youths and bring them back in mainstream. On one hand you link vigilantism to Hindu religion and demean Hinduism on the other hand you maintain a stoic silence on growing influence of radical Islamists in our country be it Kashmir, Kerala or West Bengal. As a Vice President you have constantly tried to link vigilantism and intolerance with the majority community whether it was Dadri incident or now, but not once you have spoken on the Islamists who are creating havoc in Kashmir and not even sparing Kashmiri police officers. Not once you have spoken when innocent school children of Bengal in Tehatta was stopped by Islamic fanatics to celebrate Saraswati Puja. Now as you have retired as VP, I hope you will speak up on such issues or will your conscience go to sleep and churn up only at selective times?

3. Singing the national anthem or national song is not aggresive nationalism but a hallmark of patriotism and an essence of our Nationalism:

How does singing our National anthem or our National Song Vande Mataram leads to insecurity among Muslims?
The word ‘national’ before it means our forefathers have created it for all of us irrespective of our culture caste and religion.

In reply to a question on his views on singing of national anthem and national song Mr Ansari in his interview stated: “This propensity to be able to assert your nationalism day in and day out is unnecessary”. He went on to state that such things could cause oppression to the Muslim community. Can anyone exactly point out how Jana Gana Mana oppresses Muslims? Are we asking them to chant Slokas from Bhagwad Gita? Or for that matter chant Sloka X or Y from the Vedas? Does he mean to say that now singing the Jana Gana Mana in cinema halls make us communal? Or is he just like an Assaduddin Owaisi and other Muslim fanatics who feel Vande Mataram is unislamic and against sharia.

On One hand he behaves as the guardian of our democracy while on the other hand he behaves like a spokesperson of All India Imam Council who bats for implementation of rules that are not against ‘core values’ of Islam. This duplicity of his holistic liberal and democratic culture is laughable. Or is he trying to take a sly at Justice Dipak Misra who gave the landmark judgement on National Anthem who now will go on to become our next chief justice?

Ansari went on to term it as ‘illiberal nationalism’. Countering him I would like to state his illiberal ‘secularism’ principle which is reverberate in is his uncanny silence when Bharat Ki Barbadi slogans were being chanted in JNU. What really illiberal is when his Alma Mater Aligarh Muslim University made students from other community fast during Ramzan. What really is illiberal and murder of democracy is his lay-back and lackadaisical approach to unearth the Rajya Sabha TV scam of Rs. 1700 crore under his watch. Or is there some hidden motive behind it? Is this recent rant a secular way of covering up his crimes so that when the investigation and due process of law finally catches up one can hide under the umbrella of vendetta politics and play the as usual victim card.

No one is testing any Indian’s nationalism and patriotism but if one has his/her mind fixed to destroy the institutions of this country that should be countered. If one tries to portray our Jawans serving in Kashmir as rapists that should be countered and subdued. Its like a gangrene which if not treated will destroy other parts of our country. And Yes assertion of our Nationalism and display of patriotism day in and day out reflects the healthy and rapidly changing mindset of our common people which elites like Ansaris are finding difficult to digest.

I wouldn’t be surprised if in coming days he expresses concern on ‘Jai Hind’. Who knows, he may feel that Jai Hind is Jai to only Hindus thus neglecting other religions.

4. No Kashmir Problem is not a political one. It is a problem of Radical Islamists trying to establish a Caliphate:

In the interview Ansari said Kashmir problem is and has always been primarily a political problem. And it has to be addressed politically. He added that his impression is that politicians today are ducking the actual issues. Mr. Ansari like other liberal champions tries to hide the radical Islamic terror under the canvas of ‘political problem’ and ‘political solution’. What amazes me is that it comes after the NIA has established a connection between the separatists’ organisation Hurriyat and their paymasters sitting in Pakistan -ISI and Hafiz Sayeed.

How does one justify the violent attacks on our security forces by saying it as a political problem? Or does his condemnation of violence and lynching comes with ‘terms and conditions’? Or does he like comrades believe in a ‘Referendum’. Surely not much difference with Dr. Farooq Abdullah who termed stone pelters as Nationalist fighting for Kashmir Resolution. He comes from the same school of left liberal intelligentsia who hugs and sips tea with these moderate terrorists. He represents the same set of people who has a laugh when the butchers of Kashmiri Pandits and mock Indian democracy in front of them. Indirectly, he expressed his displeasure at the strong military actions being undertaken to neutralize the Jihadi elements from valley under Modi Govt. Does he have a soft corner for armed ‘militants’ who may be only just misguided youths according to him?

5. In a true liberal democracy rules should be same for everyone Mr. Ansari:

Ansari in the interview said that judicial intervening in the matter of Triple Talaq was unnecessary and that reform should come from within the community.

Another example of his biased and unbalanced view of liberalism comes to fore. The Supreme Court intervening in the matter of Triple Talaq is not right according to Mr. Hamid Ansari. This coming from an outgoing Vice President truly reflects that he has merely reduced himself as a spokesman for Muslim. Nearly 30 years have passed since the historic Shah Bano judgement. But where are reforms from within? Will the Maulanas and Imams allow and treat the Muslim women in a dignified way without the intervention of Judiciary? If Muslims in other countries have rejected Triple Talaq under due process of law of that respective country; how does Indian Govt acting strongly against it makes them oppressor of Islam? This country isn’t going to be governed on Islamic rules and Shariat surely. I will not be surprised if in future he says playing chess or singing is originally un-Islamic but one has to reform from within to adapt with the mordern world.

To sum it up I would like qoute our Prime Minister’s sarcastic jibe while adressing the Rajya Sabha. He said ‘You have held responsibilities and been associated with a certain ‘circle’ because of which you have certain opinions and perception’.

Make no mistake this was an intentional, direct and a razor sharp taunt by PM Modi to Ansari’s flawed model of secularism and his constrained thoughts. As a previous chairperson of Minority commission, Ansari’s views and objectives have always revolved around Muslim appeasement. Never did he bothered to care about other minorities of India such as Jews and Parsis.

Hamid Ansari actually represents the infectious old school thought of ‘Secular democracy’ which no longer appeals to the masses. Their hypocrisy has now reached the saturation level and is visible from a distance. Liberals have created, and the minority leadership has exploited, a community of dependent people, unaware of the true route to prosperity and happiness: self-reliance and self-investment.

Hardik Pandya credits Jadeja for his blistering hundred in India-Sri Lanka test series

Hardik Pandya credited Jadeja for his blistering hundred against the host nation in the ongoing India-Sri Lanka test series. If he had played, I would have run out of options to choose the right shots from my armoury, Pandya told My Voice.

“When you play with some players, you get the confidence to go for those special shots and get those extra runs. On the other hand, when some other players play with you, they do something extra with every run. Very difficult to stay focused at the crease, leave alone staying inside the crease. I dedicate my maiden hundred to Jadeja, for offering outside support” Pandya told My Voice.

“Do you know that Pandya-Jadeja incident has gained the status of an Urban Legend in the city of London? The #WJMPR (Why Jadeja Made Pandya Runout) hashtag has become more popular worldwide than #WKKB (Why Kattappa Killed Bahubali) I sincerely wish that the reason is not an extensive plot by a team of people working against me, like in the movie. Also, for the record, I am not interested in any sequel, running alongside Jadeja” Pandya categorically told My Voice.

“People still blame me for the run-out fiasco. I did my level best to keep the Indian cricket fans in suspense. If not for the run-out, perhaps Pandya would have scored a few more runs, prior to the inevitable loss. See what happened now? People will remember the match forever and still think that India would have won. The urban legend will stay forever” Jadeja, for the first time, explained the reason behind #WJMPR.

Meanwhile, the makers of the movie Bahubali have contacted Jadeja to develop the plot for a possible Bahubali 3, with new twists and turns, more than what his spin bowling would offer at the field, it is learnt by My Voice.

India at 70: some thoughts on Independence Day

0

Remember that day when you didn’t have to carry school bag to your school? You just watch the flag hoisting and few cultural skits and songs, collect your “boondi laddu” and go back home, and enjoy a chilled out day of playing in the parks and just having fun? That felt so free, I wish I could time travel and go back to my childhood, just for that day. We wished everyone “Happy Independence Day ” without knowing much what it meant.

That was the time when we took our independence for granted. We did not know the sacrifices behind that. The centuries of British rule. We were told Mahatma Gandhi fought for our freedom and Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Khudiram Bose, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose were the heroes of the freedom struggle, which was understood partly, as we were too busy being free!

As we grew up a bit and read a little, we discovered a little more. Alright, now being independent means having your rights. I can choose what I like and what I don’t. I can choose what I eat what I don’t. I can choose what I worship and what I don’t. The concept of independence became a lot more serious.

We understood a bit more. Now we knew Bhagat Singh died at such a young age just to infuse the idea of his vision of free India into the young minds of his generation. This concept was so glamorous in the teenage years, he became your hero in an instant.

As you grow older and get jobs and start with your professional lives, you change the meaning of independence again. Now you understand the struggle for freedom completely. You know in the chronology who all were martyred from 1857-1947. You even regret why you weren’t born in those 90 years, which was the time to become the legend. You have read extensively on the subject, seen a trillion documentaries, have a political orientation and/or affiliation and you feel you know it all. Now you even know the freedom fighter backing my political affiliation was better than other freedom fighter!

As you approach midlife, you change the meaning of freedom again. You really don’t care about the freedom struggle anymore. You are just so burdened down by the responsibilities of family and kids that this idea of independence seems to take a back seat. It’s just a holiday to finish chores at home. You are worried all the time. You don’t read anymore, you don’t think anymore about life’s purpose in general, you don’t care anymore. All this, but your left/right orientation is intact from earlier years, so you never miss an opportunity to vent out your frustration. You get more toxic and venomous with time.

As we go through social media you find the best creative minds at work, creating memes making jokes and liners about the day. ‘Liberals’ mocking ‘right wingers’ and vice versa. Everyone taking a jibe at rival countries. Putting tricolor as “DP” and all that.

Okay, hypocrisy apart, I enjoy all of that too. That somehow proves our patriotism to our conscience. If I think about it, I partly understand it. We love our country and since we are too occupied with our own selves, we find social media to express our patriotism. That’s quick and provide a way wider range of audience to spread ideas.

Are we as free as, was dreamt by the heroes of freedom struggle? We hate anyone with a different ideology, anyone with different views, different orientations and which we learn at a much later age. In childhood we were naive to think that all is good and happy and free. Sometimes I feel we as a nation could go back to childhood and just feel free and be receptive to the happiness around.

I wish we could just forget the differences and free our minds of the slavery of mentality and stereotyping. At 70, India is a young country but Indians as a whole appear to be having a mid-life crisis. Let’s be naive again, let’s be innovative and creative. Let’s make mistakes and not point them in others. Let’s free ourselves from the judgmental psyche. Let’s free ourselves to develop new ideas and create wonders. Let’s be a team and not competitors. We all love our country, don’t we? Let that not be a competition.

An appeal to my right-liberal friends on the Gorakhpur tragedy

What happened at the Baba Raghav Das Medical College hospital where 60 children died allegedly due to disruption of oxygen supply in the paediatrics ward is a mind-numbing tragedy. There can be no defense whatsoever for the criminal negligence that led to this tragedy.

I also count myself amongst those who are striving to build a robust right-liberal ecosystem in India to take on those from the Left who have for long enjoyed state patronage and are deeply entrenched. However, this should not blind us to our own faults or make us exactly like those whom we oppose. This short note is an appeal to my right-liberal friends to focus on the “Right” fight and not lose focus.

In commenting on the Gorakhpur tragedy many of those subscribing to the right-liberal ideology (don’t like this name but using it for convenience and because it is most in vogue) have either reacted churlishly or not at all – both are in my opinion wrong. The fact is that this was a tragedy that happened on Adityanath’s watch and no matter how we look at it the buck stops with him.

I would request my friends who subscribe to this right-liberal ideology to mull over the following:

(1) I saw a few posts that speculated about something being fishy and this being a grand conspiracy to tarnish the image of the UP CM – My take on this is that in the absence of credible proof/evidence shooting darts in the air is simply not done. Order an enquiry by all means and if it does show that this was indeed a grand conspiracy then bring the roof down and the axe as well on the perpetrators. Till such time indulging in speculation will be construed as muddying the waters.

(2) Adityanath and his government owe an apology to the parents and wards who lost their children – In fact, this is the first thing that should have been done. Instead, there were attempts to deflect the blame – again not done.

(3) Those that subscribe to this right-liberal ideology must understand that subscribing to an ideology does not necessarily mean that they must also support all of what a person who they think represents this ideology does. It is the job of those who are believed to be the thought leaders (de facto or de jure) within this ecosystem to sift facts from fiction and differentiate between subjective analysis and objective assessment. – Not doing this will mean that we will be guilty of the same kind of obfuscation we accuse the leftist-lutyens cabal of.

(4) Finally, this is a tragedy that has no defence – none whatsoever. The responsibility falls squarely on Adityanath. – Bringing up other instances where the leftists did not “outrage enough” is a sorry argument to make. It belittles us as humans. This is not the time. If we do that, how can we claim to be different from them then?
