India has always mishandled the caste issue

0

Injustice cannot and should not be the cure for injustice. If injustice is committed against a person or people better always is to provide justice to that person and people. It is illogical to commit injustice against other person and people in order to provide respite to those against who injustice is committed; it is again injustice which is never the solution.

If at all it can be a solution, it should always be against those who commit injustice in the first instance; injustice against them can be a form of punitive action but never against those who are not involved in the act of committing injustice. Caste issue in India is such an issue where the Indian government has always acted that way and resorted to injustice to cure injustice.

The people belonging to different castes have been subjected to various types of discrimination, atrocities, and injustice since ages and these crimes against these people continue even today in one or the other form. Their tale is one of pain, tragedy and tribulations and their story about inhuman treatment that they have been subjected to and is meted to them in the current times in many instances. All the facilities, privileges and entitlements that were made available to the people belonging to the higher castes have always been denied to the lower castes.

Time was opportune when India got freedom to take up the caste issue and devise a policy which could prove a real panacea to this age old problem. The policy should have been the one which could have cured the malady instead of managing it. The latter, that is managing the problem, is the policy of the Indian government and the governments at the state level. No comprehensive policy was devised and adopted at the time of Independence and as such the progress achieved in caste issue is not as per the expectations, it is not very encouraging.

My ancestor committed injustice against yours, how am I to be blamed for that? How can punishing me provide justice to you or your ancestor? One is unable to see it happening. Better is to start acting justly with you as well as with me so that injustice is eliminated from the country, and the world. By committing injustice against me perpetuates the cycle of injustice. Yesterday you were the victim, today I am made the one and tomorrow it might again be you. This is a completely wrong approach to deal with the problem which the Government of India has implemented in respect of the caste issue from the very first day.

The policy of reservation and affirmative action works on that principle of the discrimination of one to provide benefits to the others. A person belonging to lower castes is preferred over those who do not belong to the scheduled castes and tribes. The eligibility conditions and criteria are relaxed for these castes to get power, jobs, opportunities, admissions and promotions which they in all probability might not have got in case they belonged to the general category.

This policy was initiated and initiated mainly to keep the electoral dynamics of the country in consideration and today as well that is the sole criterion which prevents the governments from abandoning this discriminatory policy and devising a more workable one to achieve the real objectives of the country and the people belonging to the caste people and other downtrodden. For this the electoral gains or losses should not have been the first preference and today as well the preference should be the interests of these poor people and not the electoral benefits.

In case the policy of reservation was absolutely necessary it should have not be provided and extended beyond one or two decades after the independence. The government should have made conditions same for the people belonging to lower castes, in schools, colleges and other professional and technical institutions of learning without there being reservation. Greater emphasis should have been laid on opening and establishing these institutions in the areas where the poor and people belonging to the discriminated portion of the population are in greater number.

Instead the government considered its duty done once the policy of reservation was devised and implemented. The government even did not bother to see that whether the policy is properly implemented or not, which it was never implemented that way. Majority of the people for which the policy was primarily devised were left out or were left in such conditions to render them unable to get any benefits or preferential treatment. Such people continue to remain in that pathetic condition in which they were ages ago.

What the policy of affirmative action did, and is continuously doing, is it made the ground fertile for the politicians and public authorities to exploit the issue of castes. The policy today has become an effective tool in the hands of the politicians to exploit the feelings and emotions of the poor and caste people for the electoral gains. It seems the policy originally was formulated in such a way to keep the benefits of it accruing not to people concerned but to the power elites of the country.

Every time these elites feel their power threatened, or want to gain more power, rake up an issue about the castes. Or, new and big promises are made with these people and here again the prime consideration is to exploit the caste issue. Especially during the elections, and before, all tactics, plots and conspiracies are hatched to get votes from the castes. And, not a single party desists from plotting and conspiring that way.

Indeed there is a section of people belonging to the scheduled castes, tribes and other backward classes whose upliftment has been affected by the affirmative action but these is a greater chunk of those who have not benefited at all. It is the former section of people who get the benefits out of reservation again and again and there are those who are craving to get those benefits for the first time. But the conditions are such that it is not expected that they could get any benefits for the long time to come.

In providing benefits to the selected sections of the caste people the government is committing injustice against lot more. Imagine two students studying in the same educational intuition, on caste and other of the general category, one getting preferential treatment and the other not getting any such privilege and one denied a seat even after getting higher score than the other and other getting the seat even after scoring less than many of the students belonging to the general category. Is that not injustice in a democratic set up. For politics and political gains this discrimination and this injustice is allowed by the people who are duty bound to end all the injustice in the country.

Thus far, we can say that the caste issue has been mishandled by the successive governments in India. It has been allowed to run in a direction where the power elites of the country could get their interests served without showing much concern about whether the deserving are getting what is due to them.

Now is the time for India to show maturity of the democracy and stop exploiting lower castes and stop committing injustice against the people who are outside these castes. More effective policies should be devised to universally cover all the caste and poor people of the country and a foolproof mechanism ought to be devised to end discrimination against the general category people. Justice is about justice for all and it is not about committing injustice against those whose ancestors have committed a wrong.

Somewhere the exploitation of the caste issue by the power hungry politicians should stop. Somewhere governments need to work to deal with the root of the problem. The way the campaigning of the assembly elections goes and the preparation for next year general elections go, caste issue is there to stay, may be in more ugly for which is not an encouraging development.

Telangana: Are prepaid electricity meters really required?

0

Reports are under circulation in the media that, Prepaid electricity meters are ready to be installed. Officials of TRANSCO informed that the work of installation of electricity meters has been stopped on account of elections in order to escape the wrath of the public.

A decision was taken to install these meters in the entire state but due to the sudden decision of dissolution of Assembly, political leaders requested the government to postpone it since it would have cast negative effect on the people.

The political leaders who stopped installation of the prepaid meters say that if the meters are changed after the elections, there is no problem.

It may be mentioned that the after the installation of these meters, consumers will be able to use electric current to the extent of the amount paid.

When the amounts get exhausted, the electric supply will automatically be disconnected.

It is reported that these prepaid meters have already been handed over to the contractors who will fix them in the houses. (Source)

As of today the consumer haven’t got any information/notice related to changing of meter, whether any amount as deposit to be paid for the change being made or prepaid tariff details from TSSPDCL.

On reading the above report, it’s opine that, it should not be implemented because most of the houses have installed inverters because of which consumer will not be able to know it’s power failure or no balance issue.

It should be as per choice of consumer and not as per the will and wish of the government or TSSPDCL to opt for prepaid or postpaid billing.

As there’s a different tariff calculation from 0 to additional units. The power consumers are unaware of the following –  What type of tariff plans are approved by the Telangana Electricity Regulatory is not known? Prepaid facility being introduced will there be a concessional tariff offer for the advance payment? If the amount paid is more and consumption is less, will the balance amount adjusted at time of next recharge?

Such installation will put multi storied residential complex residents welfare associations as well as house/flat owners who lease out the premises to hardship. As the consumption of power is high in the common meter of the building and monthly maintenance charges are not being paid in time by the inmates, how will they make calculation and prepay the for the entire month?

After seeing the image of prepaid meters in the media, a doubt in the minds of the residents especially of residential complexes that, the existing meters fitted in panel boards are smaller size, do the panel boards have to be changed?

As the election campaign is underway, the power consumers opine that, the contestants and contesting parties should give an assurance that, it will be left to the consumer whether to go for prepaid or retain postpaid system or it will made to keep it in abeyance.

Finally, it’s felt the domestic power consumers cannot bear the burden of any charges or levies for the change of power meters and prepaid tariff payments, it’s in the public interest the domestic power consumers be kept off from such exercise.

Contrast between defeat and success in Indian politics – Narendra Modi versus dynasty politics

0

Bear is considered to be a very dangerous, ferocious and an unpredictable animal. In jungle both plants and animals have to fear a bear because bear is an omnivores animal, meaning it eat both plants and animals. During winter the animal would hibernate (sleep) for several months and when it wakes up from hibernation, naturally it would be hungry so it eats whatever is available be it plant or animal. It is unpredictable purely because of its hunger and it has become omnivores also only because of its hunger.

Some politicians in India are known to go for long vacation and holiday and during election time such politician would wake up to display their hunger for power. The hunger for power would make them angry, unpredictable and do anything to fill the hunger for power.

As a result, the display of identity as Brahmin, Brahmin DNA, Gotra, temple run, cow protection to joining hands with urban naxals, Pakistan, secret meeting with China……… every dirty tricks in politics such omnivores politicians will do to grab power. From minority appeasement to majority appeasement, compromising the internal security of India by demanding the price details of Rafale, misuse and infuse of politics in every institution to speak against the government, create confusion and unrest in the country, everything the omnivorous politician would do to grab power.

If we scientifically look at the behaviour of a bear we can understand that the bear prefers to go for hibernation only due to lack of food. When it wakes up, the hunger makes the animal arrogant, angry, unpredictable and dangerous. Similarly the omnivorous politician had gone for frequent vacation and holiday only because of joblessness. When he comes back he realizes that he is jobless and hence utters all nonsense to catch the attention of the public to somehow grab power.

The dynast may be under the presumption that catching the attention of public is equal to victory. Indians are seriously watching the dynast to understand whether the dynast has changed after defeat. But defeat has not taught any lessons to the dynast and the defeat has only made the dynast arrogant and eccentric. For people in general, defeat would make them humble, humane, sagacious and careful. But the dynast has neither changed nor has learned any lessons mostly because the sycophants are constantly feeding the dynast with royal jelly that he is born Prime Minister of India.

Look at the contract. Narendra Modi has not just won the election in 2014 and become Prime Minister of India, he has won the hearts of millions of Indians, graced the life of millions of poor people through honest governance aimed to achieve sab ka vikas, uplifted the life of poor and made them aspirational, working hard to connect entire India with its great cultural identity – Hinduism, still he is very humble and humane. Narendra Modi is recognized to be one of the most powerful and influential leaders in the world, still PM Modi remains humble and pleasantly recollects his day as tea seller.

The reason why PM Modi is so humble and doing everything to alleviate poverty, inequality, illiteracy is because Modi comes from a poor background, Modi knows the taste of hunger, poverty, neglect etc. But the dynast knows nothing because the sycophants are there to pamper the ego and arrogance of the dynast.

By birth the dynast is arrogant whereas PM Narendra Modi is by birth humble and humane. He is a true leader by birth but the dynast is a leader of sycophants. Poverty has taught PM Modi how to understand and address the problems of poor and underprivileged but the dynast knows only power, how to amass wealth, how to breed nepotism, how to entertain sycophants and how to abuse the true leader and his honesty. Narendra Modi banks of merit, performance and people while the dynast banks of dynasty, nepotism and sycophants.

India need Narendra Modi to alleviate the hunger of poor, develop the nation, achieve sab ka vikas and not a hungry dynast who is so hungry for power, wants to develop own dynasty, loot the nation and breed the culture of sycophancy.   India must prosper as a nation both culturally and economically and our interpersonal relationship, cultural identity – Hinduism, Indian-ness along with development and sab ka vikas must prevail. Narendra Modi alone can offer such development to our nation.

Letter from a sweeper to Mr. Kejriwal– Dated: 28 December, 2013

0

Mr. Kejriwal, first of all lots and lots of congratulations for your success. I am a sweeper in the CM office, I hold and believe in my “Jhaadu” (broomstick) long before you took it as your party symbol.

For years I have been giving votes for many leaders, I have seen lots of them come and go from the busy CM office but this time it’s different. I am glad with the turn of events took place. For the first time it seems as if I have voted myself to be a CM, as I look ‘me into you’ as all my friends, family and colleague do. Even I have listened many ‘sahabs’ here and outside praising your efforts and they say “ye hi ab kuch kar ke dikhayega”. Please note that majority of us have voted for you due to the same reason.

If I correlate with the latest Bollywood movie Dhoom 3’s angry dialogue written on the bank locker after robbery “bank walon tumhari aisi ki taisi”. You have actually delivered and written the well versed dialogue of a common man “Politics humara hakk hai, aur hum ghus ke politics karenge, politicians tumhari aisi ki taisi”. We waited for many years to slam these words on these khadi laden politicians. Many of these are I believe either pseudo intelligent or backed up by a long family-business of politics.

You somehow instigated us to come together, you know that’s a big deal. We, the people of India, are never together, its only war like situation that brings us together and yeah you did this by prompting a war against corruption. I personally have seen many people laugh and cry due to corruption, people, few of them who can afford a bag full of money come here in CM office and goes out laughing and plenty of others I have seen with a long dropped faces with gloomy eyes because they can’t afford what these “office wala babus” want.

People think we don’t know about the things happening here, I must tell you a secret, we “jhaadu wala” and “security wala” can make out everything going on here, who comes with what, to meet whom, why and goes out with what and whom. Though we don’t show it on our faces as it actually will not matter to these “bada people”. I am glad you chose “Jhaadu” as a symbol, I decided the day one to vote for you, as emotion matters for Indian people you know that.

Mr. Kejriwal, I have praised you a lot, now let me warn you, this is your first and the last chance. We can’t afford you twice or thrice, we are silly people, impatient. Our loyalties have been deviated from the corrupted parties and families but this may re-align very soon if you will not prove, what you have been voted for. Because you are one of us I think you understand, see I don’t want to be rude but let us be straight on this, a man to man talk. You are a civilian hero we raised you to that level because we want you to understand us and be with us throughout the time you are there on the elevated platform and inside CM office as well.

I don’t want to feel left out this time as I have felt several times before when during the elections these politicians will ask my name, hug me, give me samosas and chai and as the elections are over they will ignore me like a pig. You can call me and for that matter all of the people demanding like a wife, but yes it is like that. If you are ready to ever last this marriage of “people weds power” we are happy to bless it but if it doesn’t happen the way it is expected to, I am sorry but you will be a forgotten name, you know we are like this bear with us or forget us.

You are an intelligent man and I believe with all my heart that you are here to help us. We look up to you, Act-One of the play is over as we did what we could, to help you, to elevate you with both our hands. Now it’s your turn let’s call it Act-Two. Do enough to respect the trust we have confided in you.

As old and wise say “Power comes with responsibility”.

Congress Party – An unsustainable idea in modern times

0

Our generation is living in interesting times. We are fortunate to see transitions all over like the way we connect with each other, world relations, technology, management, personal behaviours, how we shop in present times, so on and so forth.

The great change affecting our personal life and behaviour is “how we shop”. We have several choices today, one can just login to an e-commerce portal or go to shopping malls or even to a road side supermarket and choose whatever he/she wants from the plethora of items.

The best part of shopping these days is that the consumer has never been more powerful than today.  Consumer can freely give reviews and feedback which will be heard and acted upon in today’s marketing scenario. There are many means to compel the company to do so like writing a critical review, harsh comments on Twitter, bad-campaigning on Facebook etc. The public platforms have given us “the consumers” a lot of power to praise and condemn brands equally.

This change in our day-to-day lives is also bringing change in the way we perceive many other things, such as the “power system of politics and choice of leaders”. Political leaders are like products and in such a big market of politics as on today, we have several choices, what deems best we can choose based on personal preferences, we can give reviews to praise and condemn them openly on public forums.

Usually it happens with us, when we talk to our previous generations, like our parents and grandparents, they portray Congress party in bright colours.

The narration starts from Chacha Nehru’s ‘Gulab’ on his collar and his grand lifestyle, Indira Gandhi’s image of the Iron lady, her vigour and power to implement emergency, Sanjay Gandhi’s strong personality, Rajiv Gandhi’s composed and thoughtful nature, to gimmicks like Sonia being an outsider serving the Indian Nation and finally, to Rahul Gandhi’s cute smile and his on-going struggle to power.

These stories are like going through a market behaviour during license raj – only one family is supposed to produce leaders and do marketing about it. Other Indians are like ‘Gulaams’ or mere ‘followers’. Any ideology other than Congress’ was frowned upon. This was the closed market of politics in management’s parlance. Though, Mr. Narasimha Rao could open the market in 1991 this market of politics remained closed till as late as 2014.

The way previous generation opted for leaders seems illogical, but parents and their parents are not to be blamed for this, they lived in monopoly of power houses and saw one party (Congress) in power throughout, and due to convincing marketing by Congress leaders, people voted them to power again and again. I was wondering why this was the case, I could zero down to the following analysis.

The long rule of Indian National congress can be attributed to the following two reasons:

1. Broken self-esteem of poor-naive Indians after Colonial rule which were later ruled by Raj Gharanas and elite people of post-independence India.

2. Absence of an alternative power system/political party or ideology.

1. The Raj Gharanas and broken self-esteem of poor-naive Indians after Colonial rule – The heaviest hangover of British Raj was bruised self-esteem of Indians, it had led to several physiological side effects such as degraded thought process, low confidence on oneself, white-skin-syndrome etc.

In addition to low self-esteem, most of the population was poor and uneducated. During those weak times, the outgoing White Sahibs were easily replaced by ex. Raja Sahibs, Zameendaars, Rai-Sahab etc. These people were the left-over rich and educated people of that time, they were the so-called aristocrats and elites in our society/country. All major influential lot of them were the member of the biggest party of that time-Indian Congress party.

Gen-ordinaries (Common people) looked upon these so called aristocrats to take key decisions and automatically the societal control went to them. They got in to politics fought elections got more power and therefore dynastic politics.

With time I believe we Indian’s have recognized that “What glitters is not always Gold”, With increasing education levels, income and awareness of the world, public is not ready to accept some leader on the basis of dynasty, people need leaders of firm qualifications to lead them.

2. Absence of an alternative power system/political party or ideology – A beautiful phenomenon is taking place in India, where people are admiring leaders coming from a poor and struggle some background and attaining higher posts in politics mostly because these leaders can really connect with the commoners and understand what is to be done to really help common people as these leaders possess first-hand experience.

This phenomenon is the clear reflector of the absence of a real alternative to Congress party in India. Probably with increasing awareness levels of individuals, common people do not look up-to only elite class “Congressis” to resolve problems.

Even after 70 years of Independence, can you name one or two, national level leader with a commoner background who are respected figure in Indian National Congress party. Frankly, I found none, all of the leaders in Congress party are from elite background, to whom the poverty and difficulties of common people is taught in AC rooms.

Having said the above, of course only being from poor and commoner background is not sufficient to be appealing to the masses, a non-corrupt image of the leader is very important. As Congress has been involved with so many corruptions cases and scams that people needs alternatives now.

People need change from the rudimentary, text book politics of Congress party where for 70 years, the people of India were made to feel like ‘oppressed’ and the elite ‘Congressis’ gave false promises of uplifting them.

Leaders with clean image and poor, struggle some, common background are taking front seat in the political sphere. Unprecedented rise of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and its alliance National Defence Alliance (NDA) is the testimony of this phenomenon.

The above two reasons which worked in Congress’ favour are no more sustainable to woo Indian masses anymore. People have relatively very high exposure and awareness of political nuances with increased internet penetration it is very easy to analyse a person. Aware people make videos, write articles, blogs and that further increases awareness.

Indian National Congress is losing out due to its old methods of vested politics, they will continue to happen till the time leaders in Congress party do not overhaul its hierarchy and political methods. Alternatively, Congress has chosen a shortcut, by attaining negative methods to be in power that is to create atmosphere of intolerance, anarchy and dividing people on the name of castes and religion, these tricks will not last long.

The wave of resurrecting Indian pride and honour will topple Congress everywhere and every time in the present modern political sphere.

There are few people even today who are suffering from ‘white-skin-syndrome’ and consider Indians to be poor and weak needing guidance from self-proclaimed elite people like Gandhi, Schindia etc families which are ingrained in Congress Party.

Is this not the best suited answer to such people, that real elite people of India emerges from commoners who after lot of struggle and persistence become, scientists, doctors, lawyers, engineers etc. Commoners have given the real contribution to shape India bit-by-bit every day. A person who has emerged from a common crowd deserves the highest post like President, Prime minister of India etc. more than a person whose only qualification is to take birth in a dynastic political family.

Ordinance on Ram Mandir: An ordinance for self-destruction?

0

Addressing Hunkar Sabha at Nagpur RSS Sar Sangh Chalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat once again upped the ante on the Ayodhya issue by demanding an ordinance enabling construction of Ram Mandir. Nirmohi Akhada, VHP, Shiv Sena and many more organizations aligned to the cause of temple, have already been strongly advocating the ordinance route. While BJP Rajya Sabha MP, Rakesh Sinha, has proposed to bring a Private Member Bill, Dr. Subramanian Swamy, even with all his limitations as a Petitioner before the Supreme Court, is inexplicitly espousing for a legislation on Ram Mandir at Ayodhya.

It remains an irrefutable fact that all cases concerning Ayodhya issue – appeals against the Allahabad High Court’s decision in original suits, writ petition seeking enforcement of fundamental rights merited a speedy disposal and other incidental matters – merit a speedy disposal by the apex court. On the inordinate delays on the Ayodhya verdict, one is compelled to remind this often-cited famed statement of Warren E Burger, the former Chief Justice of the United States:

A sense of confidence in the courts is essential to maintain the fabric of ordered liberty for a free people and three things could destroy that confidence and do incalculable damage to society: that people come to believe that inefficiency and delay will drain even a just judgment of its value…”

As sequel to this irrefutable aspect, one cannot but enquire if the Hindu cause is tactlessly falling prey to a binary trap on whole the imbroglio. Unfortunately, whole of the Hindu point making brigade is either vague or vacuous on what should be content of the legislation that they are advocating for. Should the legislation say: ‘notwithstanding orders or judgements by any courts, all cases pending before all courts stand abated and the land in dispute shall hereafter vest with the Union enabling it to build a glorious Ram Mandir’? Fair enough. The very next minute, the opposite side will file a case before the Supreme Court challenging the constitutional validity of this legislation and predictably insist that before the main matter is heard, the validity of the legislation be decided first.

In fact, this is precisely what the other side wants. This is precisely why Kapil Sibal had tried to push the hearing to July, 2019. If even after the opposite side’s ploy of making Supreme Court revisit the ratio in Ismail Faruqui judgement, Hindus refuse to understand the ruse, lord Ram alone has to save our people.

It would do well to draw a parallel from PVN Government’s law of 1993 viz, Acquisition of Certain Area at Ayodhya Act, 1993. As seasoned master of dilatory tactics, PVN, wanted the Supreme Court to get itself engrossed with the validity of this legislation and judgement on the main matters gets delayed as much as possible. Alongside, PVN tried to use the Supreme Court for political purposes when a Presidential Reference on seeking Supreme Court’s verdict on what should be constructed on the disputed site. It is a different matter that apex court rightly rejected it. In sum, when the entire matter is sub judice enacting of a legislation would be not only futile but thoroughly counterproductive.

Ayodhya is not a lis between two contesting parties. It is reflective of a collective aspiration of all those who revere Ram, the embodiment of the idea of India. In fact, it remains a lesser known fact that one of the plaintiffs before the Allahabad High Court and now before the Supreme Court is none other than Bhagwan Sri Rama Virajman at Sri Rama Janma Bhumi, Ayodhya, also called Bhagwan Sri Rama Lala Virajman, initially represented by next friend D.N. Agarwal, a former Judge of the Allahabad High Court. This suit was a result of visionary action of late Ashok Singhal filed on the able advice of late Lal Narayan Sinha, the legal legend from a rural Bihar who rose to became the Attorney General of India. It was legal genius of Lal Narayan Sinha that ultimately ensured that seemingly impossible issue of limitation was overcome in the suits filed by the Hindus. Bhagwan Ram Lalla, like any other Hindu deity under law, is a perpetual minor, until court appoints his next friend. But for this initiative, Hindus would have forever been unsuited on the sole ground of limitation. It is trite law that limitation is always fatal in the original suits.

Did anyone think that Hindus would overcome this insurmountable obstacle of limitation? Call it providence or fruit of perseverance, Hindus, at least so far, have not got a raw deal on the legal front.

At this a crucial juncture a misadventure or even an innocuous misstep can cost dearly to the cause of Ram. Not that one needs to turn into a fatalist, but one needs to exercise perseverance, for justice hurried is justice buried.

Shopian Gunfight

Six militants, an army soldier and a civilian were killed on Sunday during a gunfight between militants and security forces in South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Based on a credible input about the presence of militants in Batagund area of Kapran in district Shopian, a cordon and search operation was launched in the intervening night jointly by Police and security forces in the area, Police spokesman said in a statement.

He said that as the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the militants. “The fire was retaliated leading to a gunfight. Initially, one jawan of 34 RR sustained injuries in the exchange of fire. He was evacuated to the hospital and is stated to be stable now,” police said.

Police said that one Army Jawan identified as Nazir Ahmad of 34 RR who got grievously injured in the final phase of the encounter succumbed to his injuries.

“In the ensuing encounter, six militants were neutralized and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. Their identities and affiliations are being ascertained,” he said.

As per reports, initially, four militants were killed in the gunfight that broke out at midnight in Batagund-Kapran village. A total of six militants were trapped in a residential house. Of them four were officially declared killed early morning while the rest were alive and engaged forces in firefight.

Soon after the two hiding militants were also killed resulting in conclusion of the operation with the killing of six militants.

An army spokesperson confirmed the killing of six militants and the soldier. He said arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain.

The slain militants are Abbas Bhat resident of Matribug, Mushtaq Ahmad resident of Checki Choland, Khalid Farooq resident of Shopian, Waseem Wagay resident of Amshipora and Umar Majid of Shurut Kulgam.

Abbas replaced former Hizb Shopian chief Zeenat-ul-Islam, who returned back to Al-Badr militant outfit recently.

Pertinently, a picture of Umar Majid Ganie has gone viral on social media earlier this week which has reportedly taken by him near Ghanta Ghar, Lal Chowk, Srinagar.

However, police say that they are verifying the facts and said that the picture could be morphed or taken long back before going viral on social media.

“Incriminating materials including a huge quantity of arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the matter,” spokesman said.

Police said that few individuals sustained injuries at the encounter site and have been evacuated to hospital for medical attention.

According to reports, civilian identified as Nouman Ashraf Bhat resident of Bolsu Kulgam suffered bullets injuries during the clashes that broke out between security forces and youth after the gunfight in the area.

He was declared brought dead to district hospital Kulgam, they said.

Today’s gunfight is fourth encounter in south Kashmir from last Sunday. Since then 12 militants including top commanders of Hizbul Mujahideen and Lashkar-e-Toiba were killed in the last seven days. Of them six each were killed in Anantnag and Shopian, respectively.

Army had claimed Satkipora-Bijbehara operation, in which forces killed six militants, a surgical operation.

Twitter, Patriarchy and Brahmins- Projected villains of Indian intellectualism

0

Ziauddin Barani, the author of Tarikh-i-Firozshahi, advised that without destroying ‘Brahmins’- the leaders of infidels, the Sultan cannot ensure the supremacy of Islam in Hindustan. Fundamentalist have continuously recorded their desire to eliminate Brahmins in India to ensure the demise of Hinduism. Resilient nature and dedication towards their cultural heritage by Brahmins has however made such nefarious thought a distant dream. Brahmans like any other community have positively responded to changing socio-political conditions and participated in new devotional and political movements to harmonize various conflicts. Brahmins have actively participated socio-political struggles upto National movement while also challenging various dogmas.

The academia and politics of modern India, unfortunately, decided to employ Brahmin as singular identity while projecting intellectual hatred and every social evil to their existence. Brahmanical institutions were ridiculed and their practiced degraded in scholarly circle with a promise of Utopian future minus Brahmanical presence. Such attacks were also politically prudent realizing the minor presence of Brahmins which constitutes around five percent of total population. Despite academic hostility and absence of constitutional protection, Brahmins continued to educate themselves to ensure their employability. However, the colonialist projection of division and otherness continued to overpower both Indian scholars and politicians who, rejecting all regional and cultural variations, sustained their attack on Brahmins labeling them vicious. Not many would discuss the attacks and killing of Brahmins in retaliation in India when Nathu Ram Godse killed Mahatma Gandhi.

Many Brahmins of Maharashtra were killed and their houses burnt. There exist writings extolling killing of Brahmins to cleanse the land of their presence as late as in 2011. Besides in their efforts to vilify, these twitter scholars have failed to take into account the regional variations. Such variations were even recorded by the English officers undertaking Census in Panjab when they observed at many places Brahmin were bestowed inferior positions in society owning to their lack of resources. Brahmin continued to be portrayed as Jews for the Nazis of India. In Germany, the Jews were targeted as the source of evil and once the power slipped into the hands of the Nazis, the projected enemy was ruthlessly tortured and killed in concentration camps. The same happened in Kashmir where the change of power resulted in the killing of Pandits ensuring their exodus with no hope of returning back. The ethnic cleansing of communities is witnessed all over the world where the scholarly bias and malicious agendas have helped turned societies against minority community. Unfortunately the plight of Brahmins in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh has never attracted any regional or international concern.

The recent twitter controversy is an outcome of nefarious mentality of those who continued to treat Brahmin as source of all evil, ignoring the fact that oppression of caste and patriarchy remain problem among all communities. The educated participant of closed group discussion must have been aware about the working of caste and patriarchal oppression in modern India and its paradigms. However, they decided to isolate a singular community in their quest to rid it of any sanctity. Thus such efforts to demonize Brahmins even in a fight against patriarchy is an extension of that self generated hatred to ensure isolation of Brahmins in India which may signal their end once the antagonism against them is complete in socio-political circles. Patriarchy, if one is really interested to encounter, must be fought not among the Brahmins but among all male dominated communities.

Employing the word Brahmin intentionally robs Brahmin women of any victimhood where they were projected as carrier of the evil deserving no sympathy. Such attitude can help one decode the speeches and writing depicting Brahmin women as licentious, running after non Brahmins or to be left behind to be taken care of by others in the speeches and threats of the many eminent political thinkers  of modern India. Emancipation from patriarchy thus remains away from the confines to a Brahman women who being agent of the Brahmanical lineage must face same hatred and ridicule by the propagators of equality. While employing the word Brahmin before patriarchy also ensures that feminism is linked with caste politics whereas caste in its own right stands against true feminism.

There remain various reasons for such attack on Brahmins who, despite mere five percent of population, have not been legally safeguarded. Thus one witnesses the slow corrosion of their cultural symbols and value. One can take the case study of Sanskrit which was perceived as Brahmanical language. As a result, its deterioration and disappearance in government schools and colleges of various Indian states stirred no soul. One wonders whether the advice of Barani has finally found it’s takers among modern political thinkers and Indian intellectuals who have decided to single out Brahman identity to vilify.

It is a right time for the community to get together and ask for the legal safeguards which if not placed in near future may result in many more biased/prejudiced attack on it with self conceited projections, circulated through popular channels like Twitter. The divisive politics of self-righteous group must be made accountable lest they succeed in degrading and demonizing a whole community merely because no right steps were taken in time.

The Happy Homes Residential Complex Voters of PS 128 and 129 (Upparpally) of 51 AC Rajendra nagar Assembly Segment, Opp. Pillar No. 185 PVNR Expressway, Hyderabad-500048, under the auspicious of Happy Homes Apartments Flat Owners United Central Association held a meeting on the water crisis they are facing last 3 to 4 years to chalk out strategy and place their demands before all the contestants and contesting political parties.

The association President Mr. Srinivasa, in briefed the members – as you all aware that our 9 blocks residential complex had applied for the drinking water connection and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Board Approved and submitted Final Feasibility Report, File No. 2017-5-516 dt: 28/6/2017.

After several months wait the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Board had given the Approved Intimation For Payment by GM (SWC) dt: 20/1/2018 – as per ED’s Note No. 53/GM(E) SWC, dt: 16/1/2018 related our File No. 2017-5-516 dt: 28/6/ 2017. The order valid till 18/3/2018.

After a detailed discussion on the Intimation of payment we flat owners felt the charges levied by the board are unaffordable and started continuously pursuing the issue of seeking relaxation of payments to avail the drinking water connection with the board and the Telangana government.

The two different versions of the Hyderabad Metro Water Supply Board’s Officials email dt: 31/07/2018, 1st one states that, “With reference to your mail, it is to inform you that the application received on the name “HAPPY HOMES TOWERS 1 TO 6, PALACE A,B,C F/OW/A” for water and sewerage connection vide File No. 2017-5-516 on 02.05.2017. Adverting to the above application the premises has inspected the General Manager (E) along with the DGM and Manager, and observed that the said premises is 240m away from the existing water line, total plot area 16608 Sqm, total plinth area 44600 Sqm, 9 apartment blocks with total number of residential flats 715 Nos, and also collected the necessary documents. With the above field observations and as per Board norms this file was considered under Bulk category with necessary improvement charges for the length of 240 Rmt. After necessary process the proceedings for payment charges (of amount Rs. 1,65,31,300=00) has issued the competent authority and the same report was submitted earlier.”

2nd one of Dy.General Manager, Sub.Dn.I, O&M Dn.16, wrote to the association stating, “it is to inform you that your request for relaxation of connection charges is the policy decision we are helpless in this matter, if you get the relaxation from the Government with necessary orders we can provide the water supply connection, till then we cannot provide.”

Contrary to the above all board letter – on 16/08/2018 Single Window Cell states as follows;

“While enclosing a copy of Email reference cited it is to submit that as per your application vide file number 2017-5-516 for new connection for 100mm is sanctioned for an amount of Rs.1, 65, 31,300.00 for 357.50 KLD. Further to your request for relaxation of norms of the HMWSSB related MSB Water Connection Revised order, in this regard it is to inform that all the charges intimated in the proceedings are as per our Board norms.”

Basing on above these different statements the association again wrote to Telangana government to consider our request which are as follows;

1.as per size agreed giving relaxation of payment all other charges levied as per mentioned in the intimation of payment issued to us.

2. as each block has different number of constructed flats – Tower 1 – 100, Tower 2 – 80, Tower 3, 4 & 5 – 60, Tower 6 – 50, Palace A – 105, Palace B – 95 & Palace C – 100, Sir, we, please be provided a sub metered drinking water connection from main bulk supply meter point to each block,

  1. Under Bulk Meter CAN ac, instead one bulk consumption bill, each block be issued separate monthly consumption bill necessary payment to the board by individual block association.

    4. Relaxation be given to us on Clauses 7, 8 and 9, because while handing over the each block to the respective association, the builder has not provided the Rain Water Harvesting structure and the Occupancy Certificate.

Mr. TR. Madhavan a flat owner who is more actively involved in this issue process said “Almost all the Telangana party leaders were cursing of before bifurcation governments for neglecting Telangana region development especially on water issue. But, after the formation of Telangana state, when pleaded for relaxation in the acts and rules for Multi Storied residential buildings drinking water connection the water board washes off its hands and says matter has to be decided by the Telangana state government, but hasn’t responded and nor the elected representatives took any initiative to talk to the government on reviewing of charges levies to make the connection an affordable one to all types of multi storied residential building.”

“When the new government of Telangana brought various changes in acts and rules of previous governments, the need of the hour is to bring in amendments in Water Board Proceedings and Guidelines for New Water Connection especially under Category II related multistoried residential buildings which are enacted before 2014 (MD’s Procs. No. 24/E/1/97/2003-dt: 30/01/2013).”

Mr. Madhavan said, “Because of existing working out charges and levies cost of an apartment dwelling becomes higher and recurring expenditure per occupant drastically shoots up for especially for drinking water than the billing amount as per monthly consumption.”

He questioned the government and the officials, “When the water supply is going to from the same main lines and same time limit up to the sump point of any individual house or multi storied residential complex, Fixed Amount according to dia and plot size should be made affordable or not especially to the MSRB consumers?”

Mr. Madhavan said in written representation sent to all contestants and contesting parties of Rajendranagar assembly constituency, in the coming elections asking them whether agree or disagree on the following points raised by the residents;

  1. Do you agree Fixed amounts should be Rs. 1.5 lakhs for 20mm, Rs. 2.5 lakhs for 25mm, Rs. 3.5 lakhs for 40mm, Rs. 4.5 lakhs for 50mm, Rs. 5.5 lakhs for 75mm and Rs. 7.5 lakhs for 100mm.
  2. The clause “Rate per each square meter of plot area in excess of the column (3) which is to be added to fixed amounts in column (5)” should be relaxed or not?
  3. Under Category III Bulk Supplies vide Memo. No. MD/HMWSSB/BM-20/Bulk Supplies/2011, Dt: 12/09/2011, Relaxation are needed related to charges of sewerage connection, improvement, green brigade, rain water harvesting and source improvement to make the connection affordable. Yes or no.
  4. When private water suppliers are able to supply at the doorstep ₹ 1/- per litre, the piped water supplied by the water is on the higher side. Because of such rules and charges of water board private drinking water suppliers out beat the quasi government establishment. Do yourself agree or disagree?
  5. As yourself going to be one of the lawmakers shortly don’t you think there should be rethinking and refixing on all present levies and charges for multi storied residential buildings?
  6. Multi storied residential buildings which have come up prior to merger of surrounding municipalities with GHMC wherein no drinking water main lines were not available on date of occupancy by the inmates should be given relaxation on priority basis or not?
  7. Mr. Srinivasa said “as the campaign is on and whenever candidates come for door to door campaign in the complex do expect the candidate will give their views on the points raised and hope they give an assurance to persue and resolve the issue within 100 days after the formation of new government.”
