Mission 2022 for farmers: Provisions for pavement

0

Jai Javan Jai kissan… India is a country which is dependent on agriculture for day olden days. Various welfare schemes are introduced by the present government to revitalise the agricultural sector.

1. Soil health card scheme: Swasth Dhara Keth hara( Healthy soil green field)
It was launched by government of India in 19th February 2015. Under this scheme all soil samples are tested in various soil testing labs and depending on it recommendations advice given to the farmers what nutrients and fertilisers are required for the individual farms. Government plans to issue cards for 14 crore farmers and budget allocated for this is 568 crore rupees. As on 16/05/2017 , 7.25 crore soil health cards have been distributed to the farmers.

2. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)
It was launched in 18 February 2016 by Prime minister Narendra Modi as an insurance service for farmer for their yields. Around 6.11 crore farmers had availed the benefits of this scheme. In this scheme the farmer needs to pay maximum premium of 2% for Kharif, 1.5% for Rabi food and oil seed crops and 5 % for annual commercial/ horticultural crops . Rest of the premium to be shared between state and central government and the claims to be settled within 2 months. The aim of the scheme was to provide Its compulsory for loanee farmers who were availing crop loan / KCC (Kisan credit card) account for notified crops and its voluntary for others.

3. Neem coated Urea:
Government took a decision that urea manufacture and imported to India to be 100% Neem coated for 3 reasons.
I. Urea which is subsidised for farmers get at a cost of 5,360 per tonne compared to industrial purpose (Paints and plywood industry) where it is sold for 22,000-23,000 per tonne. This led to savings of around 10,000 crore.
II. Neam coated urea acts as a bio-pesticide
III. It will delay the process of nitrification leading to 10 % less requirement of fertiliser and increase in product by 10%
The requirement of urea is at 30 million tonnes whereas only 22 million tones were produced in India and rest met with imports.

Of 6500 APMCs in India 585 markets in 16 states and 2 union territories were integrated with e-NAM services and further 470 mandis are awaited to be integrated into this service. The government had allotted 200 crore rupees for the Agri-Tech infrastructure Fund (ATIF) and each market is allotted 30 lakh rupees for the development of this portal. Through e-NAM 91,000 crore had been traded till January 2020 and 1.65 crore farmers and 1.27 lakh traders have registered in e-NAM portal. Under the vision of Prime minister the target is to double the income of farmers by 2022.

Montek Singh Ahluwalia about the safety valve of corruption of UPA 2 and helpless Manmohan Singh

0

In the recent interview, the famous economic expert Motek Singh Ahluwalia has reiterated an important truth about how the safety valve fixed by the then UPA2 government to nullify the Supreme Court verdict on convicted lawmakers from contesting election has made Manmohan Singh look weak and helpless. UPA 2 cabinet has passed an ordinance to protect the convicted leader especially in corruption cases, may be, Lalu Prasad Yadav of RJD and create an immunity to unabated corruption in India.

The ordinance of UPA2 in 2013 against Supreme Court judgment was the best proof for how UPA under family era has ruined India and promoted corruption. Besides promoting and prospering corruption, UPA 2 also tried to create a safety valve for all those convicted corrupt leaders against the then Supreme Court judgment.

People of India must remember how UPA coalition government along with DMK and other regional parties defamed India through several scam allegations such as 2G, Adharsh, CWG, Coal block allocation etc.

The ordinance of UPA 2 to protect the convicted political leaders was the best example for how the entire cabinet has cohesively worked to protect and promote corruption. Mr. Motek Singh Ahluwalia has re-kindled our memory and conscience by revealing the helpless state of Manmohan Singh, the then Prime Minister of India who had asked Ahluwalia whether he should resign or not. Ironically Manmohan Singh chose to ask or consult Ahluwalia and not the congress people may be because Singh would have realized that speaking to congress people would make no sense because the cabinet of UPA 2 only has brought such an ordinance under his command.

Several congress men would have worked from behind the scene to bring such an ordinance to protect the convicted leaders but possibly the same set of congress men only would have also propelled the dynast Raghul Gandhi to tear the ordinance in public to give the un-teachable dynast a great image. But none of the attempts of congress party has succeeded in selling the dynast to people as great leader or Prime Minister Candidate thanks to his un-teachable brain, indecent language and etiquette less political discourse.

Modi has correctly said congress does not have either neeti or neta and all it knows is to worship one family, mock Hindus, engage in scams and corruptions and then protect the convicts and scuttle the judgment of Supreme Court of India through promulgating an ordinance against the judgment.

People of New India built by Modi must ask do we need congress party or we should save India by defeating the congress which promotes nothing but dynasty and family politics.

India is referred as ‘PUNYA BHUMI’ because several great spiritual and divine leaders were born in India.

Had there be no Modi, Amit Shah and BJP in 2014, India would have doomed by now and many of us would have been living today like the life in Somalia or other most back ward countries.

During UPA regime, zero governance and absolute corruption was only happening. In the midst of all corruptions, mal-governance, scams, dynastic and family interference, Manmohan Singh remained helpless but would have enjoyed his Prime Ministerial paraphernalia and hence remained loyal to the family.

Manmohan Singh could be so indifferent towards all scams because he did not have any political responsibility for the congress party because he was chosen for the post by the family because of his spectacular and deafening silence over everything starting from corruption to disrespecting the office of Prime Minister and above all, a very loyal person to the family.

Like how we celebrate our Independence day, Republic day, Gandhi jayanthi etc.,, we also must celebrate the death of corruption of UPA in India. India must thank Modiji for saving India from stinking corruption of congress party. Ahluwalia has released his book at the right time.  India should not forget the biggest crime ever has committed by UPA 2 i.e. the ordinance to protect the convicted politicians and scuttle the judgment of Supreme Court of India against corruption.

Indians must pledge their unconditional support to Modi, Amit Shah and BJP to save India from several pseudo-secular, soft Hindutwa forces. All these negative forces want power to loot India, promote dynastic politics, minority appeasement and weaken India.

Hinduism and Hindutwa are nothing but the spirit and soul of nationalism and patriotism therefore India must support Modi to integrate India through the revival of Hinduism and Hindutwa ethos of universal brotherhood, unity in diversity and sab ka vikas.

Kejriwal teaches tough lessons to Modi & Shah

Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Admi Party has decimated the opposition in the Delhi Assembly elections. He has been returned to power in 2020, with a thumping majority, near close to his 67:3 triumph against BJP, in 2015.  The Congressmen complained, “We reject the Exit Polls. They are manufactured. We have ground reports which suggest that the results will be a stunning reversal of Exit Polls and victors may have started celebrating too early”. Well the Gandhi dynasty led @INC has been swamped by a Tsunami. Scoring a duck, and failed to open their account, as in 2015. It could not get any worse for the leadership and the so called high command. If the May 2019 general elections was a disaster, 2020 has begun ominously worse.

Be that as it may, Modi/Shah/Manoj Tiwari/BJP have suffered a drubbing, possibly worse than in 2015, even if they may have marginally improved on their score of 3 in 2015. BJP has been in power in the Centre, since 2014. They came back with a huge majority, 303 of their own, sweeping all 7 Lok Sabha seats in Delhi. Election Commission and Police, though independent entities, in India, are part of their administration. Let us be realistic, they are not all that autonomous as they ought to be. Despite such humongous advantages, it has been a knockout winner for AAP and BJP is down in Delhi though not out in India. An unmitigated downfall notwithstanding then bluster and bravado from the ruling dispensation at centre.

BJP can offer explanations like DMK always did  in Tamil Nadu, whenever they were trumped by MG Ramachandran or Madam Jayalalitha. “Our vote share  has improved bigly and it is only ‘the first past the post’ system that has tripped us.” Like DMK, BJP can console itself over the vote share or the last mile flourish in the campaigning, since Republic Day, by tucking into emotive issues and pegging big on the nationalism debate.

Truth to tell, the still fledgling AAP has trounced the political majors and by what a margin! That sends a loud message. The voters do matter. They cannot be taken for granted. The little man and woman with the little finger in the election booth, shall always have the last word. He/she quietly speaks through the EVM button, pressing it hard and hard enough to shake the losers to their roots. And EVM rigging ghost has also been buried for good, until it is resurrected by the perennial naysayers, ignoring  the empirical data.

Arvind Kejriwal fought the battle all by himself. He was a lone ranger  against his opponents from the big league of BJP and Congress. But he has stood tall and is laughing all the way to the Secretariat, because he had the voter and the people on his side. Give the devil its  due. He was smart in not attacking Narendra Modi by name or his position, unlike Rahul Gandhi, whose visceral hatred for Modi, crossed all parliamentary borders, by a mile. Kejriwal realised, after the first half of his term since 2015, that Pan India, Modi had no challenger. It would be foolhardy to take Modi on in the Delhi Assembly polls.

That made it difficult for BJP to challenge the challenger, who was not fighting their supremo. That led to the Modi minions calling names of Kejriwal, which endeared him more  to the voters. While BJP inevitably was sucked into emotive issues, having been out of power in Delhi for 22 long years, the desperation showed. The local leadership of BJP was no match for Kejriwal’s jhuggi army seeking  votes on sadak, bijli and paani (roads, electricity and water), back to the basics routine.

AAP cleverly conceded the emotive and nationalist space to BJP and Modi. It chose not to tangle with them on that count. Instead, AAP was focused on the kitchen table issues to the Aam Aadmi. Electricity concessions enabled the voters to have more in the purse and free metro rides granted to womenfolk was a huge hit.

After the Joint Action against Corruption movement spearheaded by Anna Hazare, Kejriwal had already appropriated the space  to himself akin to Donald Trump’s base, with unwavering support. The jhuggi base in Delhi is huge, constituting a powerful vote bank, which the Congress relied on  in decades gone, and now Kejriwal has simply swallowed the voter base,  in one fell swoop by pandering to their daily needs such as water supply at their door step. And the regularisation of several housing colonies came in as a timely booster.

Kejriwal had popular support where the votes mattered. Modi had populist appeal which did not sway the Aam Aadmi, as emotive appeals had a limit to their remit. BJP must now be fully alive and aware that Modi juggernaut with a Pan India construct, has its limitations, at the local or state level. BJP would be fooling themselves if they were to brag, that if Lok Sabha elections were held in Delhi in 2020, they would still sweep all 7 again. Maybe true. But that means little to the losers on BJP’s side. They have to still lick their wounds for another 5 years and that is a long time in politics. Delhi, where the central government reign from, is lost to AAP, a second time. And that is no mean loss of face.

Both the major political parties have their task cut out. Congress, needs a rebirth and unless they are delivered from the dynastic control, a turnaround seems a lost cause. And without the dynastic apron strings, the Congressmen may be a rudderless ship with lots of holes on a hostile sea. BJP, for its  part, cannot feel elated at the Congress’ loss and thump their 56” chest that after all they won 92% of the  direct contests with Congress in May 2019. That means little, if BJP keeps losing State after State, like Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Jharkand, and Maharashtra too. BJP has a lot to be worried about and the Delhi debacle could well be a wakeup call to them to  pivot from issues political and social,  to issues which pertain to the economy stupid. In the meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal has shown the way to fight the major political parties. Get your head down and work  on the simplest of things as Sadak, Bijli, Paani, which alone matter to the voter,  and try to win the perception battle by letting the others attack,  than fall into the trap of  emotive issues. A huge lesson for all political comers in 2020.

Yes, sirs and ma’ams. Disco was also a grand tradition that can perhaps, be attributed to my Chacha Nehru; that is, if the praise for the invention of it cannot be showered first on our beloved Mughals. PBUM. India is eternally grateful to Mughals, period.

For some reason or the other (proximate one being, me trying to explain certain features of our Indic histories to my hapless Son) I had to re-read a few books, which I wanted to use to ‘show and tell’ some aspects and interpretations of what has happened in the past.

So, we read together some parts of & excerpts from DD Kosambi, Romila Thapar, Jadunath Sircar, Jawaharlal Nehru and many others, in the process. Of course, we have had a good time poking holes in the shoddy narratives of Ms Thapar and Mr Nehru. We are ‘normally’ studying NCERT and NIOS books otherwise, supposedly preparing for the 10th grade exams.

Oh yes! The thing is, I know very well that the offending books of Nehru, are not really about Indian or Global history in specific, but are a series of journal entries about some things that caught his fancy, when he was writing them, as some kinda timepass. But a few ‘friends’ kept advising me that, Nehru’s books are such good resources and  were admonishing me as to why am I not even considering them etc etc. So, I succumbed.

I should not have, but I did. I actually thought, after some 30 odd years of my last encounter with Nehru’s ‘history’ books, may be I would have mellowed, may be my perspectives could have changed, may be I have become more charitable & tolerant of diversities such as these etc etc. But, I continue to be a bigot, oh the horror.

Because, to me, they continue to appear to be true to their originally intended/designed form – meaning, they are about his ‘glimpses,’ as to what he has chosen to see, given his mighty blinkers and lack of knowledge of Indic traditions, customs and practices – leave alone, the vast corpus of Indic histories. To top this ignorance, he factored-in his prejudices of a ‘stagnant India’ lost in superstitions and countless other despicable things. Also they are about his ‘discoveries’ like the way Columbus is supposed to have ‘discovered’ Americas. Anyway.

Of course his Angrezi is good, his polish is even better, the aura of being a ‘pandit’ is there – but otherwise, the books are like, in the grand tradition of Tom Sawyer of Mark Twain, “Chacha whitwashes the Indic history wall!”

The result is, his reading of Indic history is very off India. Elementary, my dear what Son?

So yes, granted our Chacha Nehru is ‘very off India‘ – but what about the Disco part? I know I owe you folks a danse macabre explanation. So.

Now, you would be wondering what the hell did Mithun Chakraborty and our beloved Jawaharlal Nehru have had in common. Or am I joking?

Fair enough. Good question. I admire my Chacha Nehru too. And, of course, I am not joking or trying to be funny here. How can one be irreverently funny about a Mithun dancing or, for that matter, our Nehru writing history? Aren’t they the real masters?

Well, the common thing, the thread of resonance is:

What the brilliant Mithun of Bollywood did to Indian Classical Dance forms (like Bharatanatyam, Odissi, Manipuri etc) by dancing his own form of epileptic Disco to plagiarized music, was exactly akin to what Nehru did to Indian & World history by writing his ‘Discovery of India’ and ‘Glimpses of World History.’ Ta da!

Oh what spectacle they both make! Oh the fantastic creative tensions between ‘I am a Disco Dancer‘ Vs ‘I did the Disco Very Off India!

(A representative image of the creative tension) (Mithun from, 1982  ‘Disco Dancer’ fillum on top; at the bottom, apparently Nehru  exhibiting his sword fighting skills (may be as a joke, or may be that was a disco gig too!) from circa 1955, original pic from here; no promises about its authenticity. On the contrary, this Nehru gig pic could be only as authentic as his own letters/journal type History books)

Here’s a youtube video of Bollywood’s Chacha Mithun doing some kinda Disco. (sorry, but this ‘aye yam ya diskow daansar‘ cringe-worthy thing is much, much better than a cursory reading of the Discovery & the Glimpses; so, please suffer it!)

Post-modern Danceologists may claim that Nehru never danced any Disco, and that there are no primary sources to that effect except for a reddit image that was uploaded on 2014. For these skeptics I want to point out one basic fact.

If Jawaharlal Nehru were not to have danced any danceform at all, how come an ENTIRE new genre of a Cuban – socialist, secular, anti-imperialist, anti-fuedal postmodern dance called Cha-Cha has been invented in his honour, that too gratefully & graciously adopting his affectionate title?

Or do the skeptics think that since he liked to Cha-Cha, he was called Chacha? In any case, only a liberal-left twistorian dunce would claim that Chacha Nehru had nothing to do with a Secular dance.

So, Nehru’s Cha-Cha was indeed some kinda Disco, Very Off India, though!

QED.

RSS organised a beach clean up on two of the dirtiest beaches in Mumbai!

0

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Prabhadevi Nagar organised a beach clean up on 16th February 2020 in two areas: Dadar Chowpatty and Prabhadevi beach in Mumbai. The beach clean up began at 8:00 am and concluded by 10:00 am on both the beaches.

A total of 50 volunteers from RSS, Bajrang Dal and NSS units from local colleges attended the program. Many locals who saw the volunteers working at the beach also decided to join the activity, and stayed for the national anthem at the end of the program to conclude.

Volunteers from RSS Prabhadevi at Prabhadevi Beach

Despite them giving a notice to the BMC a week in advance, the BMC officials had arrived late for the program with their equipment; prompting the volunteers to use nothing but their glove-protected hands for the activity, making the program longer than expected. The beach was filled with garbage and it was evident that it hadn’t been maintained.

RSS volunteers removing the plastics and glass pieces from the beach

The lack of baskets to carry the garbage (that was supposed to be provided by BMC) made the volunteers bend down to pick up the small pieces of plastic multiple times, which increased the time taken to finish the program. There were many pieces of glass that were found shattered on the beach, because of which there was a risk of injury. There were several spots on the beach where human excreta was found, despite a public toilet being within a 100m radius from the beach. There was a concern that the biological waste could have caused infection to the volunteers if they came in direct contact with the waste.

How the students came up with the idea:

The college students in their routine weekly meetings came up with the idea of organising a beach clean up after one of its members decided to take a stroll in the Prabhadevi beach, who noticed that the beach was filled with garbage that was thrown back by the sea during the high tide. The event concluded at 10:00 am in a compound near Kirti College in Dadar (W), wherebreakfast and tea was served. National anthem was sung after refreshments.

Cycle of violence and victimhood

0

On 15th February 2020, a video showing the so-called ‘police brutality’ on Jamia students started trending on Twitter and YouTube. Left twitter activists were obviously angry and they start abusing, thrashing and trending ‘#JamiaUnderAttack’ and ‘#ShameOnDelhiPolice’. It can be seen in the video, how police brutally thrashed “peaceful” students who were quietly studying in the library. Delhi police were called as ‘state-sponsored terrorists’.

Journalist and activist Prashant Kanojia compared the present situation is worse than those during World War 2.

But was Delhi Police was wrong? Were they actually so-called “State-Sponsored Terrorists” and “Brutal”. If we see the whole video, rather than just the edited version, the picture becomes much clearer.

It can be clearly seen in the video that students were not actually studying in the Library. They were wearing masks and some of them were identified as culprits who burned the vehicles. They opened their book only when police entered the library. Another video surfaced, where students who were pelting stones on the Police were seen entering the library before the police action.

After such evidence was put out and the false narrative was seen to be defeated, Jamia Millia Islamia University released a statement distancing itself from controversial CCTV footage. They said that the video was not released by the administration.

But after going through this episode, I wonder, is the politics of violence and victimhood is spreading in India? It has been seen earlier too that perpetrators after instigating violence, defying the authorities and participating in the anti-national activities, claim to be victims of the government and so-called ‘Hindu Extremism’.

A similar episode happened in Shaheen Bagh, where a careless and loveless mother, carried her 20 days old child to the Shaheen Bagh protest in Delhi during the winters, where the average low temperature was only 9° during December. Left activists and newspapers made her and her child the face of the protest to play the sympathy card. But unfortunately, the child died of fever and cold. Even the honorable Supreme Court issues notice to Centre, Delhi govt on infant’s death. But the mother blamed the Modi Government and the Citizenship Amendment Act for death.

I wonder, whether being a student, a woman or a minority gives you the right to defy all the rules and play the victim card. Does it give you the right to pelt stones on the Police and later claim innocence? And most importantly, does it give you the right to take a life of 4 months old for your own selfish interests and blame the government for it?

I do not think so. Whether you are a student or a woman or a minority, if you break a law, you ought to be punished. Being a minority myself, I believe that if I pelt stones on the police than the police have every right to apprehend me by any means possible, even if it involves breaking in a library to beat me with sticks.

While the menace of victimhood is being effectively used by the ‘’breaking India forces” of Left, I hope, that common people of my country will be able to shield themselves from this poison. They should understand that their sympathy for women, students and children will be used against them to support the anti-national activities. I also hope that the nationalist Right-wing will be successfully able to deflect this news weapon of the Left.

Why they stigmatize nationalism

0

George Soros, the Billionaire American Investor is accredited with the following statement made at World Economic Forum in Davos- “Nationalism, far from being reversed, made further headway. The biggest and most frightening setback came in India, where a democratically elected Narendra Modi is creating a Hindu nationalist state, imposing punitive measures on Kashmir, a semi-autonomous Muslim region, and threatening to deprive millions of Muslims of their citizenship.” The Indian Media on the prowl for harvesting opinions of selective international personages to authenticate their stand point that Modi govt’s CAA is a reflection of its abhorrence to secularism,  promptly latched on to it.

As far as Soros is concerned he has the dubious distinction of pulling down govts and squeezing them with his financial clout to suit his business needs. The “Open Society Foundation” funded and controlled by him has been indulging in malefic political activities in various countries. In countries- like Russia, Hungary, Israel, Turkey, Malaysia and even Pakistan they were forced to close their shops and shift out. This much would suffice for us to surmise what credence needs to be accorded for political statements from Individuals like Soros. Similar has been the case with Ford foundation in India which was more actively involved in influencing country’s political discourse in the guise of philanthropic mission.

Some thinkers, who are concerned about the rise of nationalism as a threat to open society are trying to superimpose 19th & 20th century history on to 21 st century political system prevailing in the world. In the previous centuries there were significant number of regimes which were monarchical or dictatorial and a strong wave of nationalism necessarily paved way for expansionism and a resultant war. However in 21st century most of the nations are democratic where in an elected govt is at the helm of affairs. In such nations no leader is totally free to pursue policies of aggression with other countries without soliciting support from the elected representatives of people. Every country in the world is subject to censure over its contentious policies from other countries which are part of a world body of Nations. With the emergence of various groups of nations forming various cooperation blocks with the intention of having a common defense arrangement the imperialism and expansionism has become an outdated  pursuit.

Almost all the philosophers and thinkers of eminence however agree on one thing that, notwithstanding the merits or demerits of the Nationalism, Nationalism is an emotion that just cannot be wished away or suppressed. The Nationalism pangs are as primordial in human beings as the rudimentary emotions of love and craving for being loved. The concept of National anthem  is an 18th century phenomena that  started in Spain and many countries followed it. If nationalism did not have a worthwhile place in a polity, no country would have thought it fit to have National anthem of their own and take pride in singing it.

The Ethnic Nationalism among various other forms of Nationalism is the strongest and it cannot be stifled. The events of the past history around the world will tell us that fragmentation of   Europe, especially that of Russia as well as of African continent in to smaller nations is precisely because of rise of ethnic Nationalism. Even the modern day Brexit in Britain is a direct consequence of rise of British Nationalism. The Brits were becoming more averse to outsiders competing for jobs in Britain and an open door for all immigrants of Europe.

Countries like Germany, Japan, Italy, which were devastated due to imperial ambition of their by Military leaders who manipulatively channelized heightened Nationalism to serve their self-aggrandizement, also rebuilt itself in to a strong nation in a few decades solely  because of strong  revival of Nationalism. The burgeoning Israelite Nation, surrounded by adversary neighbors could not have been a reality, without that strong bond of heightened Nationalism. Many countries like  USA and some progressive democracies of Europe have been dulled into deep slumber by  prosperity and attended by false notions of liberalism to keep their Nationalism wrapped up in their closets. All these nations have suddenly become much vulnerable living under constant fear of unforeseen attacks on them. World over there is a rise of right wing domination, which has a natural  affinity for Nationalism .

In India if we come across the sad plight of govt property getting  stolen or damaged or misused   it is a direct ramification from lack of Nationalism among  the citizens. Public utilities get abused, prestigious trains get ransacked by travelers resorting to steal various amenities provided for the passengers comfort, people are found spitting nonchalantly on the road and public places, people are showing utter disregard to traffic rules- all these abusive behavior has its roots in lack of sense of ownership and belongingness to the Nation. This belongingness  cannot come without a strong sense of Nationalism.

With remote possibility of Imperialism or fascism rising its ugly head in the modern polities and with so much of positive attainment through Nationalism in various countries, why would it be detested by some and what grouse do they have against Nationalism. Are their apprehensions guided by genuine concern to the common public or does it have something to do with their personal agenda needs further insight.

In the Indian context before we identify the groups and dwell on reasons which make them unfavorably disposed to consolidation of strong Nationalism, we should underline some unique characteristics of Indian Nationalism.

India is a country with diverse languages, castes and tribes. The only unifying feature for majority of the population is their religious roots. Thus the impetus for Nationalism in India has strong connotations of religion of the Majority which is Hinduism. The shock and realization of impending danger which should have gripped the rest of India in the wake of Hindu exodus from Kashmir three decades ago, finally made its impression in the psyche of many Indians  somewhat belatedly though with increasing instances of  audacious postures adopted  by Muslim communities.

Religions like Islam extracts from its followers a total allegiance to the religious decrees in preference to any state law or geographical entity. In Islamic countries Blasphemy charges carries a serious capital punishment as compared to charges of treason against the Nation. Commitment to religion supersedes loyalty to state and therefore the concept of National borders is totally irrelevant. The Indian Muslims rising up for Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar underscores this point. This feature of Islam further accentuates the ground reality that Indian Nationalism had to  assume a Hindu monopoly. Furthermore when leaders across the border issue statement like- “Pakistan does not have to fight a war with India anymore since the Indian Muslims will win it for them”, it only adds more credence to the belief that Hindus have to solely carry the torch of Nationalism in India. Thus in India the rise of nationalism and awakening of Hindu rights are entwined irrevocably.

In India  the  ultra Liberals, Media, politicians who diet on divisive politics, the red brigade and the Christian missionaries become overly agitated at the mention of Nationalism. They get petrified at the prospect of Nationalism appeal scoring over other themes that go to comprise election campaigns. One can recall how desperately they tried to under play the “Surgical strike” and the resultant India –Pakistan stand off.

The Liberals and the pompous presstitutes pandering to the media baron’s power brokering  pursuit, thrive on weak regimes which can be arm twisted into serving their harboured intentions. As long as there is no common denomination of unifier, it is expected that there will be fragmentation of political forces which in turn would mean no single institution would emerge as unassailable. The liberals and the Media revel in the intoxication that comes along with the attending lobbying power at their disposal, when the politicians and the govt are on a weak footing.

It is paradoxical that Communism which relies on people’s power in revolution induced politics is so much hostile to the idea of Nationalism as vehicle for harnessing people power. Nationalism has the intrinsic characteristics of building or creating some positive entities where as revolutions  have destructive bent of objective. After all communism thrives on keeping the proletariat under privileged eternally. The Nationalism will obscure this class division when they unite and the class struggle is the very essence of communism.

India must be the only country whose political arena is replete with record number of political parties vying for political power. It is logical to infer that such scenario necessarily mandates a divided community of electorates for these political parties to stand any chance of securing a political space. When the unified electorates rally around a single party, it leaves these parties with only two choices – either wind up their party and career or hook on to the party in power in the hope of being relevant. The political parties can fore see two such factors that have the potential of achieving this unity – Nationalism and Religious identity of the Majority. In Indian scenario both are entwined.

The evangelical missionaries operating in various countries having majority non Christian population require an affable and non intruding governments to further their cause. Money power has more leverage with weak regimes both as a direct influence and indirectly through media institutions. A strong Govt  and that too a majority religion supported govt would turn out to be its bug bear.

There are various Hindu outfits in India viz- Hindu Mahasabha, Bajraang Dal, Viswa Hindu Parishad, Hindu Sena, etc. but then the antagonists of Nationalism single out RSS as their main adversary because the organization’s founding principle is Nationalism. The motto of RSS is “in the service of the Nation”.

Those who revile rising Nationalism in India are blissfully ignorant that in the near future, when war cry for shariah laws is heard everywhere, the posterity will be cursing them for their short sighted comprehension of Hindu Nationalism.

The German President Frank Walter Steinmeier has gone on record with is quote that “Nationalism is an ideological poison”. French President in an attempt to take a dig at Donald Trump seated close to him remarked that “Nationalism is a betrayal of Patriotism”. As long as the  Islamic Jihadi terror keeps flourishing many liberal democracies over the world will be experiencing intense wave of Nationalism. The right wing parties which are closely associated with fervor of Nationalism will be on the ascendancy because the liberal leaders with their aversion to Nationalism have abjectly failed to counter the growing threat of Islamic expansionism, albeit  have facilitated its growth.

K.Parasaran- Jack of all trades; master of all he surveys

Kesava Iyengar Parasaran is again in the news. He is the presiding Trustee of the Narendra Modi government instituted Trust, christened as Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirth Kshetra. The formation is in the wake of or in compliance with the imprimatur from the Supreme Court empowering the Union Of India mandated Trust, to oversee the construction of The Grand Temple for Maryada Purushotham Ram, in now cleared, once disputed Ayodhya Ramjanmabhoomi site. Padmashri Parasaran, Senior Advocate and former Attorney General of India, appeared for the Ram Lalla, and led the team of lawyers, who managed to persuade the 5 Judges’ Bench of the top court to unanimously pronoun and resolve the 70 year old litigation, as old as India’s Republic.

All of 92 years, Parasaran’s wise counsel and calming influence had a soothing effect over the cauldron of conflicted environment during the proceedings in Supreme Court. His astuteness, and extraordinary skill in manoeuvring the tough terrain, made harder by the visceral hate filled submissions and conduct (in tearing up the Plan of the disputed site) of the Rajeev Dhawan, Senior Advocate led other side, had to be summoned to its optimum. The continued reporting of the proceedings engaged, enlivened and enlightened even the commoner. That the Supreme Court was able to stick to its disciplinarian time table was owed not only to Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi’s school masterly qualities, but also due to K Parasaran’s dexterity in marshalling the mountain of facts with his divinely manifested precision tools.

Recently, one had the good fortune to have a long conversation with the Bhishma Pithamaha of the legal fraternity (as the Chief Justice, Madras High Court, now Judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul addressed him) during the KP@90 celebrations got up by Sastra University, Tamil Nadu, in Chennai. This was on the occasion of the Centenary of Nanabhoy Ardeshir Palkhivala on 16th Jan, 2020, to elicit KP’s thoughts on the life and times of the legend Nani for a Special Issue of a Chennai based law journal, Current Tamil Nadu Cases.

What came through was KP’s humility, when he had nothing little to be humble about, in contrast to the egoistic thunder of many pigmies who have a lot to be humble about. KP put us on notice that EGO- was defined and expanded as Elbowing or Edging God Out. The man had lived this as he believed in the presiding deity Lord Parthasarathi, a divyadesam among 108 Vaishnavite shrines, at Triplicane, Chennai. He owed his present status, position, accolades, and even brickbats, if any, to the feet of the divine. He pointed out that Nani@ was no less religious or spiritual and not ritualistic.

Such noble sons, God’s Gift to India, to borrow C Rajagopalachari’s famed tribute to Nani Palkhivala, for whatever reasons have failed, declined, unpersuaded to write their memoirs. No use eulogising these gentlemen. They need to be feted and seen as role models to emulate, in a nation bereft of such class and nobility in most who may have anointed themselves leaders. Are they any different from us? How is it they shone brighter even if hailing from similar and simple middle class backgrounds? Did they set out to specialise their craft from early days with singular focus? Or did they grope and traverse across spaces, as generalists who came to specialise in anything they touched? How did they get to become Jack of All Trades and Master of All, not none? Is there a message and lesson for the younger generation aspiring to be specialists and compartmentalising themselves too quickly and too willingly.

When the debate on generalists vs specialists was broached with KP, we had the benefit of the recent work of David Epstein- Range- Why Generalists Triumph in Specialised World, Researching deep into the hearts and minds of those who had made it big, in many a discipline, he has come up with the hypothesis, that it was a generalist who ultimately trumped the specialists, even if the specialists looked special. It is an eternal debate that was triggered to a tipping point by Malcolm Gladwell flagging off the 10,000 hours to a genius route in his Outliers. Gladwell had argued, it seemed with the comfort of empirical data, that it took years of dedicated focus of an Arjuna or an Ekalavya, to become the best in one’s business.

Epstein challenged the Gladwellian hypothesis and pointed out that Tiger Woods, who started golfing at age 2, was an exception and it was a Roger Federer, who after wading through football, swimming, basketball et al, settled down to become an all time great tennis racketeer. Gladwell was compelled to concede that his 10,000 hours hypothesis maybe wobbly and Epstein’s generalist’s superiority over the specialist may be a reality in life.

Shri Parasaran readily agreed. He said even his father was ticked in the Box of a specialist- handling with aplomb civil disputes, land, property issues, and suits and appeals arising there from. KP said, however his father was a master in tax legislation’s and his opinions cane to be approved and accepted by no less than Nani Palkhivala the genius at tax- with a magnum opus early in his life- Kanga & Palkhivala- The Law and Practice of Income Tax.

As for himself, with his trade mark modesty KP claimed that he too was bracketed as his father’s son, as specialising in civil litigations. He was not noted for his constitutional, corporate or tax ‘practice’, yet he had handled such portfolios at the highest levels before the apex court. And he said that- maybe a generalist was better placed than a specialist for he never assumed scholarship or felt overconfident, as his lack of specialisation led to his dwelling deeper than a specialist would be inclined to, on every occasion. Wow, Epstein logic and research results come true!

Epstein argues that instead of specialising too early, it would make sense for one to test the waters, as a generalist, and experience many terrains. Epstein himself was a marine biologist who researched in Antarctic as a scientist, before he became a sports journalist with a psychologist’s construct, in Sports Illustrated. Nani Palkhivala himself did not set out to become a lawyer. He set out to become a Professor of English in Bombay University, As his and India’s destiny took a turn, a lady aspirant beat Nani to the English Lecturer ‘s post. Nani dutifully hosted the lady a treat, year on year, for her besting him to the tape that mattered. Nani repaid the debt that India owed the lady. On such twists and turns is a nation’s history tied.

Nani too began as a generalist, on the original side of Bombay High Court, handling civil suits. It was his tutelage under the legendary lawyer Kanga’s chamber which tethered him to tax, corporate and constitutional practice. He became a specialist with a generalist root and mindset. No wonder Nani made good to ‘unsurpassed skills in advocacy in Keshavanand Bharathi’ as Justice H R Khanna mused.

Parasaran too has been a generalist with a specialist’s tweak, in any portfolio he came to pursue. He has stood tall in many a constitutional (Mandal Commission), corporate (LIC vs Escorts) and tax (Expenditure levy) issues of humongous proportions, just to name a few. There is not a field of law that Parasaran has not gone visiting and conquered with ease.

Take the Ramjanmabhoomi case. It was a land dispute. A civil litigation. But it took him to other areas of specialisation too. Or the Sabarimala case, which is now on, for all practical purposes, before a Nine Judge Bench of Supreme Court. It has social, religious, spiritual, faith based connects. Yet, at its core, it is a constitutional issue of immense magnitude. Parasaran handled both and continues to handle the later now, in a battle of wits of epic proportions.

As one read the news of Parasaran heading the Ramjanmabhabhomi Trust, with his own residential address as the Trust’s, one felt comforted. He piloted the Ramjanmabhoomi litigation of 7 decade vintage to safe landing with nary a ripple Pan India. Who knows, as a generalist with a specialist’s core, as A Jack of All Trades, But A Master Of All He Surveys, there could be lurking in him, a planner, an architect, why, even a mason too, to at last see the construction of Ayodhya Ram’s The Grand Temple.
