Ram Ram “Rafale” – Ephialtes to foes and Rebuttal of UPA

0

It all started with honorable Supreme Court’s decision which gave clean chit on Rafale becoming a remainder that The Military Deals should be above Politics. The deal was signed by the Indian Government with the French Government and dassault aviation in September 2016 to acquire 36 Rafale fighter jets. Honorable Supreme court dismissed the petition filed by Yashwant Sinha, Arun Shourie and Prashant Bhushan stating it to be devoid of merit. The honorable bench comprising of Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, Justices SK Kaul and KM Joseph stated directly that- “they do not feel it necessary to file an FIR (first Information Report)” or an inquiry into the Rafale deal”.

Back in 2003, Indian Air Force asked for New Fighter Jets from Atal Vihari Vajpayee ji , at that time he was the Prime Minister after that the request made by Indian Army to him, he agreed to embed the new fighter jets into the Air Force. The very Next year Atal Vihari Vajpayee lost the election then Indian National Congress came into Rule which continued for the straight forward ten year which means congress had ten years of Power. Unfortunately the issue was ignored which led towards threat to National Security. The only process done at that time period was tendering and choosing the dassault company, France to make a deal with. Total number of 126 Fighter Jets were to be taken out of that 18 were to be made in France by the dassault company itself and the remaining 108 were to be made in India. Neither the pricing or Deal was finalized at that time and the matter was closed in 2013. Which did not mean that the Air Force didn’t need the Fighter Jets.

Then in 2014 Bhartiya Janta Party (Modi Government) comes into power and then again the demand was raised by the Indian Air Force, this time considering as of top most important Modi Government does the dealing again, but this time Rather than dealing with Dassault Company directly The Indian Government directly deals with The French Government. The deal was done for a total of 36 Fighter Jets will be purchased also they all will be made by Dassault company at France itself.

REBUTTAL OF ALLEGATIONS MADE BY INC AND REJOINDER ON HOW UPA RAFALE DEAL WAS NO BETTER AND THE RESULT WOULD HAVE BEEN A COMPLETE FAILURE –

Then Mr Rahul Gandhi raised the allegation against Modi Government that UPA pricing deal for per jet is 560 crores and in NDA per jet pricing was 1700 Crores, how did the pricing hiked by 3 percent? Then the matter was UPA deal was not even a deal it was a normal talk session nothing else. In 2007 UPA itself offered Dassault the deal of 560 crores per jet, which was not accepted by Dassault. From there the very famous “Rafale scam” started. Rather than the UPA deal at 560 crores the NDA deal with 1700 crore was cheaper how? The answer is in the UPA deal 18 jets were made by Dassault itself, which was therefore costly, Remaining 108 jets were to be made in India for which Dassault was supplying technology only. Which leads to the average pricing of per jet very low hence 560 crores per jet. The jets were not even ready in the UPA deal but in NDA everything is included whether it may missiles, insurance etc- all the required mandatories.

The total 36 jets which are coming under the NDA deal is under complete responsibility of Dassault itself, and afterwards if there arises some default or anything on the jets Dassault would repair it and provide with all the requirements of jets free of costs. There was no such provision and guarantee like this under the UPA deal, which would have been a major loss if it would have occurred technical errors or anything. After combining all of this it can be found out that India under NDA has purchased it at a very normal cost (according to sources 9 percent lesser rate). The Defence Equipment prices rises with time and that is obvious, time span was larger that is ten years also rate of currency varies with time. Then there comes Offset Clause under NDA deal, now what is an offset clause?

The money paid by Indian Government for 36 jets out of that money total 50 percent of money was to be invested back in India by Dassault preferably on the Defense Companies or Defense Sector of India in short Collaboration for which it was on Dassault with whosoever the company wants to Collaborate with. Then Dassault finalised a total 70 companies to collaborate with out of which one was Reliance , which was very well known to be pointed out by Rahul Gandhi again and again and left the other 69 companies aside. Allegations were made against Shri Narendra Modiji that this was intentionally done by him but the reality was this whole Offset Clause under which it was Dassault Company who themselves chose Reliance with other 69 companies to collaborate with.

The very famous “chowkidaar chor hai campaign”

Then started tweet wars and the very famous campaign called “Chwokidar Chor Hai” was started by Rahul Gandhi for which BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi initiated The Contempt Case against Rahul Gandhi which was heard by bench lead by Ex Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi Gandhi had earlier filed an affidavit expressing regret over mixing up his political slogan “chowkidar chor hai” with the court’s Rafale hearings in the heat of political rhetoric after the court demanded an explanation from him on the issue. Then it was up to court to accept the apology after which Rahul Gandhi apologised and it was accepted also warning was given to him.

Then finally on 29th of July 2020 the first 5 rafales were welcomed at Haryana’s Ambala to join the Indian Air Force fleet. They were firstly welcomed by Naval Warship INS KOLKATA at Indian Ocean on morning. The conversation between them went as follow as –

“INS Kolkata Delta63: Arrow leader (flying #Rafale),welcome to Indian Ocean Rafale leader: Many thanks. Most reassuring to have an Indian warship guarding seas INS Kolkata: May you touch the sky with glory. Happy landings Rafale leader: Wish you fair winds. Happy hunting. Over&out”.

Finally Rafale Fighters are embedded into  Indian Air Force with all the grace. Proud Moment for Nation, Historic and yes the Eagles are on hunt always.

Reclaiming our civilization

Just after the independence when it would have been the most opportune time to reestablish India’s connection with its ancient and glorious civilization, the Congress stalwart and the then PM, Shri J L Nehru refused it in the pretext of calling it “Hindu Revivalism” as though it was some kind of an affliction. At the time of reconstruction of Somanth temple initiated by Shri Sardar Vallabhai Patel and after his sad demise carried forward by Shri K M Munshi, Shri Nehru showed utter disregard to the reconstruction and admonished Shri K M Munshi about it. The then PM Shri Nehru also vehemently opposed even the participation of President Shri Rajendra Prasad for its inauguration, of course which the President summarily ignored. This was the attitude of the most important person at that time towards our own heritage and someone who had installed himself into India’s destiny through coercion on the architects of modern India.

The “bhoomi pooja” for the construction of Shri Ram temple in Ayodhya is not just some reconstruction like at Somnath but actually is the reclamation of our great ancient civilization. It is to reestablish the deep connection to our Santana Dharma, more importantly by acknowledging the brutality of the invaders who did everything to wipe out the symbols of our civilizational ethos and by reversing these traumatic events. It is the reclaiming of our civilizational psyche that was brutalized over centuries and made to feel inferior even though the values it stands for are loftier than the Himalayas. This is like applying a soothing balm to the deep sores of this civilization that had almost resigned to living with this infestation. It is this change in the attitude of our leadership, from then to now that building of Rama temple is a momentous milestone in the reestablishing of our civilizational glory.

Is that the reason why you see so much anger, frustration and anxiety in the Congress, leftists and other secularists today because the date of the “bhoomi puja” has been finally announced and it will be attended by the PM? I leave it to anyone’s imagination as to why reclaiming our civilization is a matter of discomfort instead of pride for some people.

All the other ancient civilizations have met a tragic death over the last couple of millennia because of either the marauding invaders or the equally treacherous religious zealots or both over the hapless native populations. While these barbaric invaders might have been able to destroy the physical symbols of our civilization, they were not able to destroy the collective bond of Santana Dharma from the subconsciousness of the vast majority of this land. In fact that is precisely the reason why all the other civilizations were destroyed, but only the ancient land of Bharat remained still predominantly imbued to the values of our Santana Dharma.

To me personally it is a watershed moment in this long and continued journey of this ancient and divine land after a gap of about 1000 years. This is the real tryst with our destiny as it finally links the future of India with its glorious past. While many youngsters may not be aware and many under the leftist educational system have discarded our civilizational values but the father of our nation called the ultimate Utopian governance as “Rama Rajya”, and that is what he wanted to see India embrace. While Shri Rama is a divine incarnation in Sanatana Dharma but his legacy still remains the bridge to several of our neighboring countries who might have lost direct link to ancient land of Bharat but yet are connected by the cultural heritage associated with Shri Rama.

Though the original Ramayana was written by Maharshi Valmiki but there are several versions of Ramayana across the lands extolling the “Maryada Purushotama Rama” (honorable and foremost among men) and his virtues in different languages. The people of Indonesia, Thailand, Burma, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines, Japan, Tibet and also China know the legend of Shri Rama and connect with it for the ideals he stood for. He and his story connects us culturally with all these modern nation states and you can see the symbols of this that they proudly display even today.

Shri Rama though being a divine incarnation chose to teach the world through his personal example by way of the conduct and values he displayed throughout his life. He went through all the mundane mores of life and showed the right path to choose at every situation to set an example of how humans should aspire to live with righteousness. While the Valmiki Ramayan covers the story of Shri Rama as a most noble human being, the philosophy of Advaitha is only implicitly suggested in there. Maharshi Valmiki in his epic honors the human perfection of Shri Rama so that he can be imitated as a role-model for the rest of humanity to follow. But the philosophical aspects of Shri Rama’s life are contained in the Mahrshi Vyasa’s “Adhyatma Ramayana” which is part of the “Bhramanda Purana”. It expounds the Advaitic principles that culminates in Jnana or Self realization through Bakhti.

Another of great treatises associate with Shri Rama is the “Yoga Vashishta” that describes the dialogues between Maharshi Vashishta and Shri Rama as part of Shri Rama’s time spent in the “Gurukul” at Maharshi’s ashram. There are innumerable stories and discussions that cover the epistemology, ontology and axiology of the Advaita Vedanta. Shri Rama as a disciple and Maharshi Vashishta as a guru engage in a detailed dialogue in this treatise wherein Maharshi Vashishta clears doubts of Shri Rama who is inquisitive to know the real nature of the triad of knower, knowing and the known.

These descriptive dialogues with Maharshi Vashishta shows how to attain the Supreme Godhood or the Self realization in perfect synchronization with the Advaitic philosophy as propounded in our Vedas and Upanishidas. Shri Rama being an Avatar, who is the very embodiment of the Supreme Self and the knower of all, engaged in the dialogue with his guru so that an ordinary person can understand the seemingly complex constructs of Advaitic philosophy. For the benefit of showing the right path for the people down the “Yugas” he went through this to ensure that “Atma Sakshatkar” or Self realization is possible for anyone and everyone. Shri Rama is indeed the very center of the Indic civilization and unfortunately a few generations in between have not had a chance to understand and connect with him deeply. I hope this will also revive the interest in younger generations to study and know more about our great heritage and what Shri Rama stands for.

For any nation to survive and thrive, it needs deep roots that are borne in the collective history, collective ethos, collective values and collective philosophy. And these roots are kept alive and healthy through the symbols like these. So I see this as the first step towards linking our great past with the great collective destiny in future.

The long wait of centuries, followed by the legal wrangle over decades and finally resting their faith in a judgement by five judges only shows the ethos of this great civilization. Where in the world, otherwise can you see an example of a majority community waiting peacefully to correct the centuries old barbarities on their faith and on the very symbols of their collective conscience? This itself is the testimony to the utmost tolerance and forbearance of our cultural ethos.

In the current situation prevalent in the world brought out due to racial conflicts, religious brotherhoods and expansionist hegemony, India’s ancient civilizational values are the only examples worth emulating where in the brotherhood of all mankind is the foundational principle. So strengthening and reconnecting to the civilizational ethos of India is not just the need of the hour but also the only solution for the peace in the world at large.

Revision of India’s history for building an Aatmanirbhar Bharat

0

The new way to serve the nation individually is to be more self-reliant, as our Hon’ble. Prime Minister has rightly urged, “Be vocal for local.” Aatmanirbhar Bharat is the only way to rebuild our nation. However, such issues are multi-faceted. It not only involves traders to encourage selling Made in India products or buyers buying them, but also requires people, in large scale to make them with a finesse comparable to those foreign made products.

After all, we don’t want to be a nation that just makes cheap products. But in order to do that, the Nation needs to have more self-esteem. The best way to do that is to inculcate the confidence in them while they are still in their budding stages of life; while they are still in school. And that means, modifying the narrative of our history from an Indian’s point of view. This method was adopted by the Japanese post WW-II and the results are right in front of our eyes.

Indian history has always been narrated from the westerners’ point of view; at least that’s how it appears to this retrospective author who was educated in a westernized Christian missionary school. There are many reasons for my dissent to the narrative I have been taught. It is unlikely that ancient India was troubled by the caste system like it is today. With more and more understanding of the ancient texts, it has now come to the light that it was a way to categorize specialized skills and was not determined by the occupation of one’s birth parents. Today people believe that the idea of specialization was introduced by the western world. But is it entirely impossible that the caste system of ancient India was basically the same as modern day job specialization? I would be intrigued to know if today people would allow an economist to do the job of a surgeon or expect a surgeon to fly a combat aircraft! Then again, in the modern world, do we not have occupation specific communities like the medical community, the engineering community and so on?

For example, there was the Asia-Pacific Microscopic Conference (APMC) in February 2020 in Hyderabad. Microscopists from all over the world participated in it. The event was a grand success. But imagine what a chaos it would have been if an economist wanted to participate in it saying that he was denied “equality or freedom of participation”. That is what is happening today when it comes to building the narrative about our ancient past. Is it not entirely possible that the “caste by birth” system came in much later due to the inherent corruption of the human mind? For instance, in 2007, Dr. K. Murugesan and Dr. Gandhimathi from Tamil Nadu, India, made their son perform a surgery for putting his name in the Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest surgeon in the world. Despite being educated themselves, they let their 15-year-old son perform a surgery illegally. Their son was no specialist, and yet his parents due to their personal greed, tried to establish their son as the world’s youngest surgeon.

Today law and order in this country has come a long way and so it is possible to take action against such wrongdoings. However, the law and order situation of ancient India is not known, and it is highly possible that the system of job specialization may have gotten corrupted into the oppressive caste system we see today. In fact, Amish Tripathi’s book, The Immortals of Meluha, gives a very fresh interpretation to the whole caste system. The final point being is, we really don’t know the conception and implementation of the caste system since its genesis. But it is absolutely necessary to know the truth about the caste system before projecting it as a blot in India’s ancient history.

Secondly, newly unearthed facts about the Saraswati Civilization are seeing the light of day. But most main stream historians are still reluctant to accept these facts as it goes against their entire theory of the Aryan Invasion. Their theory was proposed only by archeologists/ historians, who were not aided by advanced technology or scientific evidences. However, Maj. Gen. GD Bakshi and team are rigorously trying to establish the truth about the Saraswati Civilization. His team takes a multidisciplinary approach to assimilate and correlate not just archeological evidences but also geological evidence and satellite imageries. Just like science and technology has progressed by adopting a multidisciplinary approach, is it not high time that the same be done in reconstructing our history correctly? There is a plethora of scientific proof to support the existence of the Saraswati Civilization, yet it is being labelled as myths and therefore, not incorporated into the textbooks.

(Left) Path of river Saraswati, which dried up over the course of thousands of years. (right) Present day course of rivers, with a dried up river bed of the ancient Sawaswati river.

Thirdly, ancient architectural heritage has also been misinterpreted. People still insist that the temples of Ancient India and its carvings were made by primitive people using just chisels and hammers. However, current findings suggest otherwise. Recent experts, such as Praveen Mohan, are now questioning how intricate geometric patterns with perfect angular accuracy could be achieved by primitive tools when reproducing the same today would require the usage of modern CNC machines. Mysterious objects such as the Shivalingam made out of black basalt at Warangal Fort with perfect cylindrical shape and mirror finish could not have been made using chisels and hammers as they would for sure leave tool marks and some amount of tapering. Even the fine polishing of black basalt rock statues in Ramappa Temple called Madhanikas should amaze us because such a mirror-finish surface today can only be achieved by diamond polishing or colloidal silica polishing. There are carvings in the very same temple that look like modern day drilling and polishing tools. This just goes on to show that our entire history was not carved by people who simply used chisels and hammers.

(Left) Multiple ‘Madanikas’ made of black basalt rock attached to the Ramappa temple pillars at an angle. (Right) Well preserved and finely polished Madanika standing beautiful even today.

Ancient people do not appear to be accidental metallurgists either. The people we call “primitive” carried out melting and casting of metals and alloys and had arrived at some pretty amazing alloys as well. Wootz steel, supposedly discovered in Europe has its origins in India. Even the Delhi Iron Pillar, which cannot be accurately dated back shows minimal rusting even to this day, thanks to the advanced ancient metallurgists. Even today alloys are not discovered by accident by unskilled people. Alloy design is itself considered to be a specialized branch of metallurgy or material science. It seems absurd to suggest that ancient people who had discovered alloys like brass and bronze were absolutely primitive people, because the extraction of its component metals such as copper, zinc and tin are also found as ores. These people had to have some knowledge of mining, extraction, alloy making, casting and shaping. Is it wise to still continue calling ancient Indians ‘primitive’?

Then again, let’s take the example of the mysterious Kailash Temple of Ellora. Nobody really knows when the temple was built. History books say that a huge mountain was cut and turned into a monolithic marvel in time less than two decades, again with chisels and hammers. While that may be believable to many, let us give it a second thought. It is documented that the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb had destroyed thousands of Hindu temples during his rule. He had also sent a thousand soldiers to destroy the beautiful Kailash Temple, but despite spending 3 years trying to demolish the temple, they could only disfigure a few statues. So how could the Mughal army fail in turning the creation to ruins? They failed because even destroying it was a monumental task! So, imagine the task that lay ahead in front of the craftsmen when they started creating it, supposedly with “chisels and hammers”.

A complicated sculpture of Shiva with Parvati with the damaged portions marked with a red X.

Lastly, footprints left by Hindus (in this context, Hindu is a person who had his roots in Hindusthan) are being unearthed all around the world, especially in the tropical belt. A popular Hindu saying goes,” Jitne kankar, utne Shankar.” It means that Lord Shiva can be found in every piece of stone. Shiva is the most popular Hindu God and is popularly represented as a Lingam, a solid cylinder with a dome-shaped top. Lingams have already been found in not only the entire South-Asian region but also in Columbia, South America! Thousands of underwater lingams, as well as an underwater sculpture of sleeping Vishnu, are still there in a place formerly known as Sahasralinga (present day Phnom Kulen) in Columbia. Who other than Hindusthanis (people of Hindusthan) would have worshipped those Shiva-lingams? More and more lingams are being unearthed in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Indonesia to name a few. Are these findings so irrelevant that these need to remain in the blind spot of our eyes? Moreover, evidence is being found that ancient Indians did go on overseas voyages because of which they built lighthouses. The questions are raised if the modern-day Olakkannesvara Temple at Mahabalipuram was in fact an ancient lighthouse! All the features of a lighthouse are exhibited by the structure. But since building ships and lighthouses and going on voyages would effectively prove that ancient Indians were not primitive, mainstream historians are reluctant to incorporate these findings into the books of impressionable young Indian minds.

(Left) Submerged Shivalingas carved on the river bed at Sahasralingas (now known as Phnom Kulen) in Colombia. (Right) Submerged carving of sleeping Vishnu in the same river bed with Lakshmi towards his foot, and Brahma sitting on a lotus coming out of his belly-button.

We cannot build a confident nation on porous historical foundations. It is highly probable that ancient Indians were not simply primitive people who sat inside their huts and caves with chisel and hammers. Surely they would have been specialized people who were experts in architecture, machining, metallurgy, and even world explorations. Many recent findings indicate these facts and could be used in rewriting our history more accurately. It is self-harmful to hold the opinion that the absolute truth must first be found and then incorporated in rewriting our history.

Such a process is harmful because it is extremely difficult for children to unlearn the history taught at schools as they grow up and accept new findings. Distorting our history as myth is the reason we still have disputes like in the case of Ram Mandir vs Babri Masjid. Moreover, research, even in the field of history should be a scientific process. Quick absorption of the latest findings is necessary, even in the case of history. Research in any field is not absolute but a continuous process.

Imagine where the world would be standing today if scientists had decided not to teach the students about the smallest indivisible particle. While our forefathers learned that the atom was the smallest indivisible particle, we learned that electrons, protons and neutrons are, and now the next generations are learning about quarks, antiquarks, and so on. Science has progressed in leaps and bounds over the last few decades because it has accepted and assimilated the current state of affairs in the field. But history has remained backward.

India’s heritage has been overshadowed by biased historians who have belittled our history. As children, we were indirectly taught to be ashamed of who we are. Yes, “Who We Are” heavily depends on “Who We Were”. The Ancient Indians were for sure great scholars, builders and explorers. But this fact has never been revealed to us while growing up. As a result we have a deep-seated under-confidence, and have become reliant on others. That is another reason why despite more than 70 years of independence, those within India are still dependent on others, while those who migrated abroad have been more self-reliant. Self-reliance has always been in our genes, but shameful and biased history has made us otherwise.

International Friendship Day – A glimpse on how the face of Indian Diplomacy changed globally?

Before I start writing this blog, I would like to wish you a very happy Friendship Day and in this blog I am going to write about how India managed her allies in last six years.

As we all know, the majestic Rafael jets arrived in India just a day ago further strengthening the bilateral ties between India and France. France being one of the key allies of India also showed solidarity with India during the India-China faceoff at Galwan valley which is a diplomatic win for India. Foreign policy of India has been gone through many reforms since last six years and helped India gaining many global allies.

Since the time the BJP led NDA government came in power, the government invested reasonable amount of time in strengthening ties with the outside world which dramatically changed the face of Indian Diplomacy in the world and not to forget Former Minister of External Affairs Lt. Shushma Swaraj without whom it is not at all possible to reach this peak. And the change is visible when India won the non-permanent membership of UN security council getting 184 out of 192 votes.

To explain this and make it more clear I will take 2 countries as example.

After BJP led NDA government came in power India changed its attitude towards Israel and making it stand as one of the major and all-weather ally. The policies of Congress led UPA government towards Israel were not that good and used to have a soft corner for Palestine, the key enemy of Israel. The drastic change in Indo-Israel relationship is strengthened with India supplying masks, sanitizers and Hydroxychloroquine to Israel and in return Israel’s supply of Ventilators to India and they’re now developing a testing kit which will give results in only 30 seconds. This shows how the bilateral relations between the two changed so far amid Covid-19.

When it comes to allies in recent years, the case of USA is also important, there used to be a time when USA openly supported Pakistan against India but the scenario has changed. In recent times, USA became the biggest piece in the piechart of India’s export list. After 2014, India managed to maintain good relations and uphold national interests with both the Democratic party and Republican party under Former U.S President Barack Obama and now President Donald Trump. The recent US-China trade war grew the ties more stronger as USA now sees India as a big market for producing goods for USA and a strategic partner to counter Chinese dominance at the region.

So far as we seen India’s diplomacy is growing stronger and stronger and this shows India’s capability of becoming a emerging superpower and a global leader.

“Startegy and tactics of the Indian revolution by Maoists” (माओवादियों द्वारा भारत में क्रांति हेतु योजना और रणनीति) – गृह मंत्रालय की इसी रिपोर्ट में कहा गया है कि भले ही ये लोग मानवाधिकार संगठनों के वेश में काम करते हैं लेकिन ये लोग अपनी पहचान अलग बताते हैं ताकि किसी भी प्रकार की कानूनी कार्रवाई से बचा जा सके।

Bhumi Pujan for conversion

0

My father always tells me about his life in 1971. He was about 13 and at that age to understand everything that was going on in Bangladesh. He was born in East Pakistan, as it was previously called and saw his country win independence. He tells me about his times in Agartala refugee camps that the Indian government provided. He tells me about the conditions through which he and his family migrated to India during the war. He also tells me about the atrocities at that time.

Specifically: the ideas of the Six Kalimas. He tells me about the pressures many like him faced to recite the kalimas. These were specific Arabic sentences, and the belief that anyone who recites them, is converted to Islam. He also tells me about Muslims who prevented him from reciting them, helped his family reach the other side of the border during the war while they continued to occupy his family’s houses so that they can be returned to them when they return after the war. This article is in no way derogating those Muslims who continued to serve humanity for humanity’s sake, which has been recited by the Qur’an. This article is specifically for us who continue to not acknowledge the necessary structural changes necessary in our ideologies themselves that would help us prosper.

To begin with, the idea of a uniform, clear and concise conversion system. Similar to what my father saw in 1971 and even now, while the Muslims had a few sentences to recite to convert to their religion, we failed to come up with one uniform code. While Muslims have simplified this step even further by only reciting the Shahada, we still do not have any uniform system that all sects would agree on. While searching “How to Covert to Hinduism”, I came to Wikihow which states “[t]here is no official conversion process or ceremony for converting to the Hindu faith.” While this makes the religion more diverse, it also causes retention problems. To note another source, Wikipedia states “no formal concept of conversion in Hinduism but converts to Hinduism are accepted.” VHP/RSS/Arya Samaj and many other perform havan to perform the conversion but these are expensive and time consuming methods. In my opinion, a simpler uniform conversion system, possibly reciting a non-denominational Sanskrit mantra like Gayatri Mantra combined with Shanti Mantras like “Asatoma Sadgamaya” could be one possible method towards that.

With the nearing of the Ram Mandir Bhumi Pujan, there is a rising number of Muslims who are traveling long distances to come to see the event. The Muslim Ram Bhakts also acknowledge that their ancestors were followers of Ram. This should not deter the Hindus and other Dharmic followers from showing them a different path. Rather, we can easily consecrate the area throughout Ram Mandir such that anyone who comes within a vicinity of the Ram Mandir or touches even a piece of stone has become a devotee of Ram, and therefore a Hindu.

Looking at our past mistakes in the Jagannath Temple in Puri which forbade foreign converts from entering the temple, while ISKCON continued their diligent and successful work throughout the world, we should rectify. While ISKCON was spreading the words of Sri Chaitinya throughout the world, garnered more than a million followers, we continued to close the doors for devotees like Alfred Ford and George Harrison. Should we not allow the likes of Tulsi Gabbard to enter the abode to Jagannath, while she worked tirelessly for our causes?

Many will claim that Hinduism is a secular religion, which is very open-ended for interpretation. However, it is that open-ended quality that can drive us towards these changes. While we can continue to be conservative towards accepting others, we can also show them the path necessary by accepting them. While we all know what happens when one comes out of the Laxman Rekha, we do not know the consequences of Ravan if he nonchalantly entered the Rekha and could not leave. Maybe Ram left it for us to test it out.

[As I have very little knowledge of the Shastras, I would like someone to please discuss how we can justify this. I believe strongly in the words of Dayanand Saraswati whose shuddhikaran structure drives me to write this article. Any opinion is greatly appreciated.]

The democratic orthodox

India is a democratic country that allows every citizen to choose the leaders they want, accept those learders as national representatives and put them on stand when their decisions fail. However, over the time various communities have evolve challenging the nature of democracy and constitution, most of these communities oppose government and distort the structure of national formation. They just understand “put them on stand” part of democracy leading to national chaos and new forms of crime. They not only put their agenda and disguise it as national interest, but they also abuse freedom of speech to it fullest as a result last decade has experienced some serious threats towards the cultural and moral value of India as a nation.

These communities also add fuel to religious political fire resulting people going against each other while they sit in their full furnished villa enjoying their evening tea. These people fight crime by being criminals themselves, they say anything about the national representative and no one have control over them. They forget in a democracy praising and raising right issue is equally important to keep the morale of citizens high, but they chose otherwise.

In order to save the democracy and its essence it’s important to acknowledge the fact that for next four years we have to deal with the same government we like it or not. So why not use democracy to it’s best, praise government on its achievements and criticize it on its failure, why not try to make the India we all dream of?

Should Doordarshan give a live coverage of Bhumi Pujan on August 5th?: Answer is an empathetic ‘YES’

After the news of ‘Bhumipujan’ of Ram mandir broke out, the media has jumped into the fray and trying to raise a needless controversy by collecting soundbites from non-descript, and mass-rejected politicians and some intellectuals of dubious integrity. The latter groups attempted to dissuade the prime minister from laying the foundation stone of the proposed temple by citing moral and constitutional grounds as their convoluted psyche perceive these values.

Having failed at that mischievous enterprise, they are now chasing the Doordarshan asking it not to telecast the event on August 5th. The major reason they cite is the same stereotype- that covering the event will be against the principle of secularism as enshrined in Indian constitution. Implied in their contention are basically two things: First, Hinduism is a religion like any other faith-based religion including those belonging to Abrahamic faiths and Second, Rama is a Hindu God. Then comes their conclusion and objection: Therefore, showing reverence to Rama, a Hindu God, by the head of the state will violate the spirit of secularism.

Both these contentions are however fallacious. First, Hinduism is clearly beyond conventional religions, which are customarily associated with ‘one single faith’. It is sad that this fact has not dawned on a small section of people of the country. They belong to three categories: (a) religious fundamentalists belonging to faiths inimically opposed to Hinduism, and (b) some formally educated but dim wit people claiming themselves to be progressive Hindus themselves who have no proper understanding of the tenets of Hindu civilization. Despite the smallness with regard to thinking faculty and perfidious intention, they have been often able to create noise with help from media to oppose any attempt to restore our civilizational legacy, which has been most secular, in real meaning of that word.

Next point is about Rama himself. He is not only revered by billions of Hindus as God incarnate, but in human form he showed to the mankind how it was possible to practise wide ranging virtues like dutifulness, righteousness, patience, tolerance, compassion, dignity in speech and conduct, reverence for all life forms and environment to name a few. His life has been ingrained inseparably with every part of the subcontinent – north, south, east and west- starting from Ayodhya to Lucknow (Lakshanvati), Prayag, Chitrakut, Dandakaranya, Panchavati, Nasik, Kishkindha, Rishyamukh, Hampi, Rameshwaram, to Ajodhya hills (Purulia, West Bengal). Even numerous places such as Taxila (Taksha-sila), Peshawar (Pushkalavati), Lahore (Lavapuri) and others are reported to have been named after his and his brother Bharat’s sons viz., Taksha and Pushkal. He lives in umpteen numbers of folklores, songs, words in daily lives, poems, and proses. His glory shines bright not only in India and but also in other countries like Nepal, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia and others.

One of the greatest epics of India viz., Ramayana, depicts his life and deed which have been the bedrock of Indian civilizational values and ethos. If the majority of people of India across its vast landscape are still god fearing, law abiding, humane, non-materialist, blessed with virtues of contentment, free of jealousy and envy, helpful to others, and patient these traits may be traced to the legacy of Rama and Ramayana.

Despite the fact that small numbers of politicians and their ecosystems have been constantly trying to damage the peaceful Indian society by dividing them in the name of religion, caste and classes, and infuse in them the culture of violence it is the innate civilizational strength imparted by the spirit of Rama that is keeping the Indian nation afloat. Many scholars wonder as to how such a densely populated country like India with abysmally low ‘people to police’ and ‘people to judges’ ratios remain largely a peaceful and law-abiding country!

If these are Rama’s legacy for common Indians’ way of living, his spiritual attainments in his human form as documented in Yoga Vasistha is a supreme document of philosophy. Though it is much lesser known than Bhagavat Gits, yet to the men of wisdom it is as important a philosophical treatise. All across the world the wise men in search of truth, cutting across conventional faiths, delve into it to get the road maps for salvation.

It is sheer stupidity to look at Shri Rama from the prism of so-called ‘secularism’. He is central to Indian civilizational values and ethos. Now at this juncture of time when the western civilization seems to be getting torn by forces of insatiable consumerism, mindless individualism, discredited socialism masquerading as liberalism, religious fundamentalism, and various permutations and combinations of these forces turning their people confused, there are great expectations from India. They are looking to that India which has grounding on her civilizational legacy and not one which has been aping them in shameless and beggarly manner. They are expectantly waiting for reawakening of that Indian civilizational soul!

The event of 5th August is therefore important globally as well. It may be one of the turning points in national life- an opportunity to redirect the attention of our youth to our inner vast treasure. Not only is a debate on DD unnecessary but eminently avoidable. It is pity that our national media is still making this an issue.

Globalization and its impact on India

0

The globalisation debate has been raging ever since it formally began in the mid-20th century with the opening of institutions like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). In a technical sense, India opened up to globalisation much later, in 1991, when it was felt important to liberalise market norms and allow privatisation to encourage the growth of its long-stagnant economy.

Historically, however, India has long preached the ideals of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family) and Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah (may all be prosperous and happy), thus, carving out the Indian model of globalisation

Last year, India marked the silver jubilee of this venture which can be explained by concepts like Marshall McLuhan’s “Global Village” and Kenichi Ohmae’s “The Borderless World“. It can also be expressed in terms of time-space compression, elaborated upon by theorists like Anthony Giddens.

When thinking about the impact of globalisation, it becomes important to mark at the outset that it has affected different countries differently. The impact of globalisation has divided scholars across the world into its defenders and critics.

While Marxists criticise it for expanding capitalism on a global scale, Islamic and Asian societies sometimes interpret globalisation as an attempt to impose Western values.

Noam Chomsky attributes the loss of many lives to capitalist wars, fought to force other countries to open their markets for the bourgeoisie in capitalist countries.

Scholars like Immanuel Wallerstein blame globalisation for the poverty in Africa or wars in the Balkans. He sees globalisation as a ramification of capitalists’ quest for markets and acumen of capital.

Globalisation, however, must not be confused with capitalism. According to Jagdish Bhagwati, globalisation has brought an unprecedented level of growth in poor countries. The percentage of people living in developing countries on $1 per day has halved in the past 20 years and life expectancy has almost doubled in the developing world. Child mortality has declined in every developing region and literacy levels have risen.

India has largely benefitted from the impact of globalisation. When India opened up to globalisation, growth accelerated to almost 7% on an average, compared to 4% in the first 35 years after independence.

There has been a remarkable reduction in poverty, especially in the last 15 years, though it’s still too high. Entrepreneurship has surged with many new entrants in the corporate sector. The current account has been opened fully while the capital account in India’s trade is substantially open to FDI and portfolio flows in a calibrated manner.

Globalisation has brought with it new technology with quality products that have made jobs more productive. Thanks to globalisation, medical tourism has become a growing sector in India estimated to be worth more than $3 billion. This garnered attention recently when an Egyptian woman shed more than a 100 kilograms of weight in Mumbai.

Most of all, there is a tangible self-confidence in India’s foreign policy as evident from India’s stance in the ongoing standoff vis-a-vis Doklam against China. However, even from an economic standpoint, there are many challenges which have remained unaddressed.

Globalisation has led to increasing casual employment and the weakening of labour movements. We have failed to adopt a strategic policy in agriculture for an enhanced and sustained growth. Education, and especially health, have received inadequate attention despite intermingling with the globalised world.  Globalisation is also responsible for a surge in practices such as commercial surrogacy and human trafficking.

Our real challenges are issues such as competence in governance and a slowdown in private industrial investment. Therefore, in the face of globalisation, the need of the hour is to have less centralised, more competent and independent regulators and swifter resolution of disputes by the judiciary.

What we also need is greater administrative decentralisation and adequate empowerment of city administrators. Economic changes naturally lead to social changes in a society. The advent of globalisation has led to a more integrated world and many emerging smaller communities that are in turn connected to many others.

With information and communication technology, one has access to a vast resource pool. People have begun to develop a global psychology. Members of the Irula tribe in India were hired by American wildlife professionals to get rid of their python problem. This is a classic example of how globalisation has impacted the social fabric of our society. It has also benefited horticulture and cash crop producing farmers, demands of whose products have surged globally.

On the flip side, however, globalisation has led to distress in the lives of small farmers and tribal people who are often displaced to provide land for multinational corporations (MNC). Besides, the World Trade Organisations (WTOs) free trade norms are such that they benefit farmers of wealthy nations.

What’s also important to register is that while globalisation can bring such a magnanimous shift in the social lives of people, it’s restricted to only the “haves”. The “have-nots” remain unaffected since they are bracketed out of the resource pool due to a lack of access and agency.

The rapid expansion of globalisation and capitalism has also given rise to consumerism which has now begun to target vulnerable segments such as teenagers.

Consumerist culture has also led to the objectification of women in advertisements and has commodified their bodies.

Globalisation has had an implication on women in the economy too. While MNCs have given a plethora of equal work opportunities to educated women, an ILO report points out that the labour force participation rate among women in India has been dropping to one of the lowest in South Asia.

While more women in India are enrolling in secondary education, it’s not a secret that due to lack of road infrastructure and basic facilities such as toilets, women are forced to drop out, and hence, lag behind when competing outside domestic spheres.

In wealthier households, women have even lower employment rates. To find the missing women, we must give them full access to labour markets for full utilisation of human resources. This will also address the skewed work-family equation for women in India and create a family structure where women are not the sole child-raisers.

The most obvious impact of globalisation has been felt in the cultural landscape. Global restaurants and international cuisines are served on the menus of Indian restaurants today. We’re exposed to international music and dramas in literature, foreign festivals and languages. More and more students are getting involved in research on foreign languages and histories and societies of foreign countries.

Similarly, Indian cinema shot in foreign locations with foreign talent is expanding its reach across the globe as it completed its centenary.

We wear western clothes, travel in German cars, use Japanese technology, Korean smartphones and have Indianised many such products.

Many scholars have also criticised the blind adoption of western values with terms as “aping the West”. English has begun dominating Indian languages not only for official purposes but also in everyday parlance. Many Indian art forms such as Kalchattis, stone pots from Tamil Nadu and performing arts such as Burrakatha are no longer in vogue.

Thus, a more balanced approach to globalisation would make it a more affable process. This will happen when yoga becomes a common exercise the world over, Indian basmati becomes the preferred variety of rice and when chess is played in international games such as the Olympics.

Globalisation, hence, has impacted every aspect of Indian society, its culture and economy. As elucidated above, India has largely benefited from globalisation, though it can benefit even further when it becomes a net exporter of cultural and technological goods and services.

Today, it’s felt that India is more dependent on the world than the world is on India. This reality needs to change to favour Indian needs.

We must create a kind of globalisation that not only makes the rich richer but equips the poor to enrich their lives. That will be the true merit of globalisation.
