Desert god and his messenger

0

Let’s read a story today. Pause for a moment, spare some time and think. Have you heard it before? Do you know it and pretend to never heard of it? Let’s begin.

There was a desert God; let’s say desert God of planet Earth. We will call him just desert God hereafter. Desert God claimed that he was the most powerful and the most merciful who had created earth and heaven in few days. That desert God sent so many messengers to the world who came and preached about the God. But the desert God was not happy with the performance report of all those messengers and decided to send one last messenger to the earth. Desert God was so sure about this last messenger that he announced: “This messenger would be the last messenger I am sending to the world who would exactly teach what I want to teach. After this, there will be no any messenger. Amen!”.

That messenger was sent on the earth in some remote desert location. And desert God told that Man, the last messenger; “You are my messenger; go and tell the people of this earth that I am the only God”. And within a short span of time, desert God kept dictating him all that he wished to be done for him. The messenger kept noting everything dictated by the desert God. And the entire dictation was compiled and converted into a book which was called as the “God’s Commandments”.

The messenger claimed that whatever had been compiled in the “God’s Commandments” were the words of desert God himself and had to be obeyed in letter and spirit. The last messenger further claimed that anyone who didn’t adhere to the commandments and refused to believe in desert God would be declared a disbeliever and killed. And then the last messenger further proclaimed that anyone who killed the disbelievers would get a confirm seat in the heaven.

People get offended very soon, but the same set of people don’t get offended by the fact that it is written in the “God’s Commandments” that those who would kill disbelievers would get a confirm seat in the heaven. OK, leave it here and hear further.

Desert God who created earth and heaven in few days had to depend upon this last messenger to spread the word that he was the only God to be praised and worshipped. Desert God could not do it on his own. The last messenger started to preach about that desert God. He started with his own clan who till now were worshipping some other God, in the form of idols. The desert God was extremely furious with the Idol God and ordered in his commandments that all idols must be razed and obliterated; and anyone who worshipped Idol God to be killed.

One God giving a license to kill human beings who believe in Idol God. One God giving a license to break the idols and destroy the temples where Idol god was being worshipped. This desert God seemed to have immense hatred towards Idol God.

So when someone recites, “Sab boot tore jaenge (All idols would be broken )”, you know it well from where such ghastly ideas originate.

The last messenger was extremely trustworthy. The last messenger proclaimed that Desert God had chosen him for the task and had commanded that all disbelievers be forced to bow before him. The last messenger gathered men, armed them with swords and spears, and started fighting battles. In one such battle, he defeated those who worshipped Idol god and broke the temple of Idol God. It was a victory over the disbelievers. Desert God was very happy and ordered to destroy every Idol God.

The last messenger of the desert, chosen by the desert God himself had started the mission of the desert God; to establish the supremacy of the Desert God. So, people of other continents viz. South America, North America, Europe, Australia and other Asian nations had to rely on these desert mercenaries sent by the last messenger to know about the Desert God. These mercenaries came armed with swords and spears to tell that Desert God was the only god, the most powerful and the most merciful.

And Desert God told this fact to desert men only because he could not rely on a Chilean or Peruvian or Colombian or an Australian to convey the message of his godly supremacy.

Did Desert God really tell these desert men to go to different parts of the world and tell people that he was the only God?? And to add upon it, to kill those who deny the existence of desert God and refuse to believe in him. Did desert God really coin the term “disbeliever” for those who don’t believe in him and commanded them to be killed? Whether he said it or not, no one would ever come to know. All such diktats and sermons which exist in that book do not seem to be the words of God, but the handiwork of mortal men who one day decided to prove their superiority over other races, ethnicity, nationality etc.

And if you go by what is written in the same book, even Desert God knew that people of other faiths existed, those who didn’t believe in him. Some of them were the followers of his own messengers. But one fine day desert God decided that his messenger of the desert would be the last messenger and those who were following his previous messengers must start following the last messenger of the desert. And if they refuse to do so, the followers of the last messenger must kill and destroy followers of the previous messengers. Did desert God tell the last messenger that all previous messengers and their followers were disbelievers?

The last messenger claimed that he was sent by the desert God because earlier messengers sent before him did not teach the right thing. If that was the case, why did desert God not punish those messengers then and there itself? Why did desert God waited for another hundreds of years to teach the world what he had to say? And this time desert God chose desert men to go and tell the world that he was the only God. And then desert God also proclaimed that he had stopped sending future messengers. If other messengers could commit a mistake, how could there not be not a mistake this time?

The world is still seeking answers from the believers of the desert God. If believers say that whatever is written in “God’s commandments” is prophetic, word of God himself, then that would mean that desert God coined the term disbeliever and ordered them to be killed. And disbelievers are those who deny his existence, negate his presence or believe in some other God or do idolatry. It means that Desert God was aware that idolatry exists. So, if he was aware and if he was so powerful; in one stroke he could have changed the perception of entire human race to believe in him. Why this branding of disbelievers and armed battles, killing people to make them believe that desert God is the supreme.

A god who decides the fate of every individual whether he would get hell or heaven, could not even tell people of the earth himself that he is the only god. And to make them believe in him, he had to take the help of humans who kept roaming here and there armed with swords, spears and guns proclaiming that believe in my desert god; else get killed.

Desert god said that non-believers would go to hell and believers would go to heaven. That means anyone who is a believer has an automatic ticket to heaven and they needn’t worry about anything else. Believers need not help the poor, feed the hungry, medicate the injured and do other philanthropic activities because their ticket to heaven is confirmed; just because they are believers. So, why do some believers do it then; to get more facilities in heaven? Anyway, there is a shortcut to heaven; kill the disbelievers.

And what if believers commit sin, kill innocents, rape girls; would they still go to heaven because they are believers? What if a non-believer does good acts, help people, feed the hungry, medicate the injured etc.? would he go to heaven? No! why? because he is a non-believer; Period! Non-believer would go to hell.

And just imagine whom he would meet in that same hell; the believers, who believed in desert God. Or is there a separate hell for believers and non-believers – believers hell, non-believers hell. And if someone does not believe in desert God but in some Idol God, can desert God still decide the fate of that non-believer? Going by what the last messenger claims, that seems to be the case.

These questions may seem funny and off the mark but requires introspection. Think and act before it’s too late.

Online streaming platforms require content censorship

0

Its high time to regulate the unregulated, uncertified, sexually explicit, pornographic, vulgar, profane and legally restricted contents broadcasted on the online platforms including (but not limited to) Netflix, Amazon etc., by framing legal provisions/guidelines under The Cinematographic Act, 1952[i] in order to regulate the said online platforms and contents broadcasted on the online platforms, and; give effective remedy.

ISSUE OF FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS & LIMITATIONS

The sources of entertainment such as movies, press, social media are provided with the Constitutional validity under Article 19(1)(a)[ii] that states the freedom of speech and expression for all the citizens within the country. However there are limitations to this fundamental right in the interests of the sovereignty and integrity of India, the security of the State, friendly relations with foreign States, public order, decency or morality or in relation to contempt of court, defamation or incitement to an offence under Article 19(2) The censorship process, intra vires to the provisions of the restrictions provided under Article 19(2), are valid in consonance to the doctrine of rule of law.

LEGAL SAFEGUARDS & CHALLENGES

The online streaming platforms are broadcasting content which is self-generated and also stream third party content in form of Internet/Web-series, movies, videos, episodes etc. and the said streaming is not regulated; thereby giving them a virtual license to stream web-series, movies, videos and episodes without any certification by any certifying authority, not regulated by law and devoid of any guidelines by the Courts. The only legal safeguard is under Section 69A[iii] of IT Act : Power to issue directions for blocking for public access of any information through any computer resource. –

(1) Where the Central Government or any of its officer specially authorised by it in this behalf is satisfied that it is necessary or expedient so to do, in the interest of sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of the State, friendly relations with foreign States or public order or for preventing incitement to the commission of any cognizable offence relating to above, it may subject to the provisions of sub-section (2) for reasons to be recorded in writing, by order, direct any agency of the Government or intermediary to block for access by the public or cause to be blocked for access by the public any information generated, transmitted, received, stored or hosted in any computer resource.

(2) The procedure and safeguards subject to which such blocking for access by the public may be carried out, shall be such as may be prescribed.

(3) The intermediary who fails to comply with the direction issued under sub-section (1) shall be punished with an imprisonment for a term which may extend to seven years and shall also be liable to fine.

There have been no efforts made to regulate such online platforms or to remove such legally restricted content to put an end to the problem and thus, such platforms virtually get another opportunity to perpetuate the illegality.

THE CASE OF GUNJAN SAXENA: THE KARGIL GIRL

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl, starring Janhvi Kapoor in the titular role, revolves around the life of the Indian Air Force pilot Gunjan Saxena and has patriotic undertones. It has been produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film was unable to release theatrically and was picked up for distribution by Netflix. It was released globally on 12 August 2020[iv]on Netflix and thereby avoided the clutches of Censorship Board.

In contrary to what film portrays Gunjan Saxena’s batchmate Srreevidya Rajan says makers of Netflix film ‘have twisted facts for Gunjan Saxena’s for the sake of publicity’.

Below is the transcript of Gunajan Saxena’s course mate Sreevidya Rajan [v] :

Sreevidya Rajan claims that they were never subjected to any humiliation as depicted in the Netflix film. Sreevidya points out that she was the first female pilot sent out with her male counterparts when the Kargil War began. “The heroic acts of the protagonist portrayed in the climax never actually happened and may have been shown as part of cinematic licence,”

Sreevidya also writes that the makers of the film have “have twisted the facts given by Gunjan for the sake of publicity.” She points that Saxena has many achievements under the belt, which Gunjan Saxena sidesteps and instead shows her character as “a weak and oppressed victim.”

Sreevidya further writes “We probably were given this fame because of our gender which I do not support. In defence services, there is no disparity between male or female. We are all officers in uniform,”

The IAF has sent a note stating their disappointment to producers Dharma Productions, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and Netflix[vi]

It is important to note that in general, an overwhelming majority of Indians support some form of content censorship. According to YouGuv ( British international Internet-based market research and data analytics firm, headquartered in the UK), over 59% of Indians also feel that OTT Platforms in the country have a lot of offensive content which is unsuitable for public viewing. Moreover 47% find it uncomfortable to watch some content around family.[vii]

WAY FORWARD

A cinematograph is an art form that is used to express emotions and thoughts. It is protected under freedom of speech and expression until a reasonable restriction is placed on its enjoyment under the provisions of Article 19(2). The said online platforms are not regulated due to lack of legislation, guidelines or provisions of laws specifically dealing with such content on the said online platforms. There’s no merit in giving such platforms a leeway to not comply with established legal procedure and provisions of relevant laws under The Cinematographic Act, 1952 in order to broadcast content on its streaming platform. The Union government, considering a larger public interest, must find a solution within the four corners of the law.

Why Hindu gods are under attack

0

We are seeing a lot of Social Media posts that depict Hindu Gods and Goddesses in obscene poses. The language used itself is also utterly disgusting. The platforms specifically @twitter tacitly supports this kind of narrative due to its inherent leftist bias. The media overlooks it as an act of FoE, though it rages if the tides are turned.

So, is there a method to this madness?

You all must have noticed that whenever there has been a reply or adverse comment on these posts, deriding the posters religion or its head, the repercussions are faced not only by the responder, but also the whole community with excessive violence and killings. The mobs take over, almost as if they had been waiting for something of this sort. The police is always caught unawares, whether it is by design or sheer lack of intelligence gathering is not known. Media latches up on it blaming the Hindu side of invoking violence, even when they are on the receiving end.

That is the essence of the whole dirty politics. With Hindus getting more restless with the increasing emerging threat to their existence, the time is ripe to create a hysteria to paint them as intolerant and violent. The other side, one which is rabidly violent and another which is converting them to another faith as governments sleep are methodically destroying the foundation of this country.

What happened in Bengaluru was just that. A city on global map, gets burnt down by a few and the media blames the person who replied to a disgusting post. Other Indian towns are sitting on a powder keg waiting for their turn.

The government in its impotence has refused to tackle the menace through denial. If the ministry of law and I&B were doing even a fraction of the work they are supposed to be doing, we shall not be here. However, they hobnob with the very detractors to be declared secular, throwing the very people who elected (in some cases not even elected) them to their positions to the wolves.

So more posts abusing Hindu deities will continue to appear, someone will reply and then there will be revenge. Hindus will be shown their place so that they can not raise their heads, even when their families and lives are destroyed. Ministry of I & B will never ever try to act against fake news, except the minister will write an article. The law ministry will never question Social media platforms for helping provoke violence.

The myopic zeal to be called secular and be respected by all, which will never ever happen, will ultimately lead to Vinash as this great country is devoured by the wolves that are fed the carcass of the truly secular Hindu.

Did Rahul Gandhi score a massive self goal by keeping a track of Corona Cases?

0

Covid-19 in India has once again exposed the incompetencies of political opposition as well as mainstream media in India. Although, from a superficial view, it does look like they raise genuine questions, but as soon as we dive a little deeper, we can clearly see how pointless those questions and concerns are.

More than half of the year has passed by in the shadow of lock-downs and some still continue with the same type of questions.

As an example you could look at the following tweets:

Or a more recent one, supporting the ask for NEET/JEE postponement in the light of corona:

A tweet from Mr. Gandhi is important because even though he isn’t the party president anymore and is just one of the many Members of Parliament in India, whatever he says becomes the strategy of his party. And I have absolutely no issues with this. I know it is tempting to pin the rising number of cases on the government especially when it is absolutely certain that the number of cases will continue rising, no matter what the government or anyone else does. But, does this help India in any way? Is it even a genuine concern to raise?

Few weeks ago I wrote an article Covid-19, Co-morbidity and the Undisclosed Data showing the reasons why numbers like these mean absolutely nothing. If the goal is to create chaos and panic, Mr. Gandhi could very well predict for the month of October and add a couple million or predict for the end of the year and say round about 10 million. I have written half a dozen articles on how different people, parties, governments, countries and corporates have used or rather exploited Covid-19 for their vested interests. I have placed the links at the end, please do visit them.

As a matter of fact, he and his party by making the increasing number of cases a hot topic, have scored a massive self goal.

They, by keeping a track on such numbers have forced the government to control a highly contagious virus that spreads like flu, and ended up legitimizing lock-downs.

If general elections were to happen today, BJP will win not only with a majority but with an absolute majority.

How does lock-down help BJP win election?

Before the general elections of 2019, Mr. Amit Shah would come on every other stage and say only one thing “We in the last five years have connected with at least 20-25 crore households in India, be it in the form of providing free gas connections (Ujjwala Yojna), or providing JanDhan accounts, or providing Mudra Loans, or building toilets or connecting far flung villages by road or any other such scheme”. The 22 crore votes that BJP received in the general election were a testimony to the fact that whatever Mr. Amit Shah claimed was not only on the papers but did reach the people on the ground.

Fast forward to May 2020, honorable finance minister Mrs. Niramala Sitharaman during her 5-day Atmnirbhar Bharat economic package announcements, announced something very very similar. Let me re-iterate some of them “we are helping eight crore people via the Ujjwala Yojana, providing direct benefits in the accounts of more than forty one crore JanDhan account holders, providing ration to more than sixty nine crore people, helping more than three crore farmers, so on and so forth”. You could have a look at Aatmnirbhar Bharat, special economic package and the response, to know why it is extremely important for you to watch those five press releases.

Will these benefits reach people on ground? From the past experience, yes they will. In fact the wire, published an article in June claiming that more than 73 crore people in April and more than 65 crore people in May received their benefits. Just to give a perspective to that number, the total number of registered voters in 2019 general elections was 900 million i.e. 90 crore. Now, you do the maths, even if 50% of the people who are reaping benefits sitting at home end up voting for BJP, it would still be ten crore more votes than its last vote count.

People who are making fun of Collateral free loans to MSME after the announcement should remember that recipient of “Mudra Loans” who received loans as small as fifty thousand only, repayed in kind by voting for BJP in 2019. A majority of the people in India don’t tweet or troll on internet, a majority of people who reap these benefits aren’t active on social media and this is the only reason why a lot of people who are highly active on social media did not see BJP coming back in the power with a majority. The chasm between the virtual world and the real world is getting deeper and wider. I would not be surprised at all if something in the real world turns out to be exactly opposite to what the virtual world suggests.

Lock-down would have backfired if today’s government was as corrupt as that during Congress’ rule. The poor is receiving much more than what he received during Congress’ rule, he no more receives only fifteen rupees out of the hundred sent to him (I am not saying this Mr. Rajiv Gandhi said this). And this is one of the biggest reasons as to why Mr. Gandhi’s strategy of trying to milk the number cases is a blunder.

In fact, the government used lock-down as an opportunity to bring in reforms which would have been very difficult before March this year. If it were not for the lock down, you would have seen country wide protests when BJP introduced privatization in the space programs. If it were not for the lock down, you would have seen buses burning and blocked streets when BJP invited private companies to come up with 150+ passenger trains. When was the last time you saw instances of stone pelting? blocked streets? Country wide protests?

Its not that I am against the reforms, as a matter of fact, welcoming private companies in the space sector and encouraging them to come up with their own rockets is going to be a major reason why I will vote for BJP again. I will write a complete article how privatization in Space sector as well as Railways is going to catapult Make In India and Startup India to a fast track.

But having said that, the only problem with “lock-down” is that it takes the freedom away. It takes away the very basic fundamental right as given by the Article 19- 1(b) i.e. to assemble peaceably and without arms and 1(d) i.e. to move freely throughout the territory of India. It is an irony that people in India just a year ago were protesting in the name of freedom when there was absolutely no need (humko chaiye aazadi), but are dead silent now when there should at least be questions asked.

The fear makes it possible!! All, thanks to a constantly running death counter!!

Europeans especially Germans take life very seriously, to the extent that they wear helmets while riding bicycles. I have lived here for more than five years now, I can say that for sure, if lock-down was necessary, Germany would have had the most stringent lock-down. But quite strangely there hasn’t been one day when the transportation was halted, not a single day when the super markets were closed because of Corona. Yes, there were restrictions for discos and large public gatherings but no lock down. People are making vacations here, beaches are crowded but Indian opposition along with mainstream media is still keeping a track of numbers fostering fear. THIS HAS TO STOP OR ELSE THERE WOULD BE DIRE CONSEQUENCES FOR THE COUNTRY.

I just hope and pray to god that there is a day in my life time when India comes out of its Gandhi-Nehru family jinx. Somehow, the “family” never lets go of the party or may be other way around. It is high time when Congress and the Nehru-Gandhi family part ways or else Congress Mukt Bharat is inevitable. They literally gave it on a sliver platter to the ruling party. Every year there are two peaks for viral fever, what makes you think people won’t test positive of corona next year? What makes you think Coronavirus lock-downs won’t happen in 2021 or 2022 or before any important election?

India’s population explosion and its repercussions

0

A new analysis published in The Lancet has projected that the world population will peak much earlier than previously estimated. It projects the peak at 9.73 billion in 2064, which is 36 years earlier than the 11 billion peak projected for 2100 by last year’s UN report World Population Prospects. For 2100, the new report projects a decline to 8.79 billion from the 2064 peak. For India, the report projects a peak population of 1.6 billion in 2048, up from 1.38 billion in 2017. By 2100, the population is projected to decline by 32% to 1.09 billion.

Concern over uncontrolled population growth already existed in ancient times when scholarly discussion of population issues and evidence of efforts to control family size were recorded in Greece, China and some other areas. The advocacy for population control has grown notably since the eighteenth century, when population growth began accelerating in many parts of the world.

Why we need to control population explosion?

Population explosion is one of the hazards and serious problem, which creates a great obstacle in the way of national development. It has direct effect upon the society and development of nation. The consequences of population explosion are:

  • Pressure on food, clothing & housing: A country with fast growing population has to face a serious problem of scarcity of necessary food, minimum clothing & proper housing facilities, which are basic needs of human life. Thus, it affects the life style and results slum areas, starvation etc.
  • Unemployment: The overpopulation aggravates the unemployment & disguised unemployment problem. The vacancy rate is negligible as compared to wants of employment, which ultimately results into low income groups and large families depending upon single earning person (earner).
  • Standard of living: The overpopulation creates or give rise to large families with low income reducing the standard of persons living therein. The slum areas, starvation and frequently epidemics are the results affecting health and standard of persons within such nation.
  • Decrease of forest area: The basic made of the growing population is of residence and shelter. To construct houses and place of shelter, man is greatly cutting and reducing forest to make a place to live.
  • Environmental pollution: Over populated passion creates a large affect on the environment by exhausting a large proportion of waste. On the other hand reducing forest which results the growth of pollution.
  • Education: The low income of large family dose not afford to provide education to their children. Which results into creating a problem of illiteracy and again none awareness among the class.
  • Energy crisis: Population explosion accompanied with rapid industrialization and urbanization has led to greater demand for already deficient energy (fuel wood, fossil fuel and electricity).
  • Hygienic condition: More people in a small area breed unhygienic condition which has ill effects on human health.
  • Eco-degradation: Overpopulation leads to eco-degradation by increasing air, water, soil and noise pollution, unhygienic condition, deforestation leading to flood and soil erosion. So rapid human population growth is creating increased pressure on the infrastructure, economy, environment, availability of primary health care and nutrition.

What needs to be done to tackle this problem

Solution can be broadly divided into three categories i.e. social measures, economic measures, other measures.

Social measures: population explosion is a social problem and it is deeply rooted in the society. So efforts must be done to remove the social evils in the country. As fertility depends on the age of marriage. So the minimum age of marriage should be raised. In India minimum age for marriage is 21 years for men and 18 years for women have been fixed by law. This law should be firmly implemented and people should also be made aware of this through publicity. There is still discrimination to the women. They are confined to four walls of house. They are still confined to rearing and bearing of children. So, women should be given opportunities to develop socially and economically. Free education should be given to them. The spread of education changes the outlook of people. The educated men prefer to delay marriage and adopt small family norms. Educated women are health conscious and avoid frequent pregnancies and thus help in lowering birth rate. Some parents do not have any child, despite costly medical treatment. It is advisable that they should adopt orphan children. It will be beneficial to orphan children and children couples. Social outlook of the people should undergo a change. Marriage should no longer be considered a social binding. More and more people should be covered under-social security schemes. So that they do not depend upon others in the event of old age, sickness, unemployment etc. with these facilities they will have no desire for more children.

Economic measures: the first and foremost measure is to raise, the employment avenues in rural as well as urban areas. Generally in rural areas there is disguised unemployment. So efforts should be made to migrate unemployed persons from rural side to urban side. This step can check the population growth. If agriculture and industry are properly developed, large number of people will get employment. When their income is increased they would improve their standard of living and adopt small family norms. Improved standard of living acts as a deterrent to large family norm. In order to maintain their higher standard of living people prefer to have a small family. According to A.K. Das Gupta those who earn less than Rs. 100 per month have on the average a reproduction rate of 3.4 children and those who earn more than Rs. 300 per month have a reproduction rate of 2.8 children. It is on record that people in urban areas have low birth rate than those living in rural areas. Urbanisation should therefore be encouraged.

Other measures: The communication media like T.V., radio and newspaper are the good means to propagate the benefits of the planned family to the uneducated and illiterate persons especially in the rural and backward areas of country. The govt. can give various types of incentives to the people to adopt birth control measures. Monetary incentives and other facilities like leave and promotion can be extended to the working class which adopts small family norms. Another method to check the population is to provide employment to women. Women should be given incentive to give services in different fields. Women are taking active part in competitive examinations. As a result their number in teaching, medical and banking etc. is increasing rapidly. In brief by taking, all there measures we can control the growth of population.

Rapid population growth is detrimental to achieving economic and social progress and to sustainable management of the natural resource base. But there remains a sizable gap between the private and social interest in fertility reduction, and this gap needs to be narrowed. Policies and programs that influence health, education, the status of women, and the economic value of children in turn influence attitudes toward childbearing, family planning, and people’s ability to control family size. Efforts to reduce fertility through explicit population policies, therefore, should be integrated with policies to improve health, education, and the status of women.

Broad-based improvement in human resource development requires reorienting policies and financial resources to focus on delivery systems that respond to the critical needs of the majority of the population, including the poor. This calls for far greater emphasis on primary education and basic health cure. It also requires financial resources and, hence, substantial and sustained economic growth to generate sufficient resources to invest in human resource development (the significant potential and need for improving cost effectiveness notwithstanding). Without substantially improved agricultural growth performance, this will not be attainable.

Corona virus and ransomware parallels

Pondering over what could be an equivalent of Corona Virus or COVID-19 outbreak in the IT world? Has something similar happened in the IT landscape with a malware or virus which inadvertently affects one system / server and starts spreading to connected systems / servers through the network and slowly makes the systems / servers / network dysfunctional? The trigger for this thought was to see how IT professionals dealt with the problems and if the solutions applied to solve the IT malware / virus spread could be applied to the current Corona virus crisis. The first thing that comes to the mind was Ransomware attacks which have many parallels or similarities with the COVID-19 crisis and a relevance in terms of some solutions. The IT world has first-hand experience of dealing with Ransomware attacks in the recent years and months and it’s fresh on everyone’s mind.

Ransomware for the uninitiated is “A type of malicious software designed to block access to a computer system until a sum of money is paid. Most ransomware variants encrypt the files on the affected computer, making them inaccessible, and demand a ransom payment to restore access. The malicious software can spread and affect connected computer systems”. Corona virus except for the ransom part has parallels and affects the functioning of the respiratory system and immunity of humans like file encryption and makes them dysfunctional and spreads to other humans in contact.

There are other similarities between the two although some may technically not consider Ransomware as computer virus but as a malware while Corona is indeed a virus:

Here are possible solutions used for handling Ransomware attacks and their relevance in medical context:

It appears from the lessons of dealing with Ransomware attacks, the only reliable solution for Corona virus spread is prevention as there is no widely accepted or known cure. Prevention by awareness and maintaining hygiene and hand wash, prevention by isolation, social curfews and distancing, stay at home orders are similar to preventive measures like Cyber security lessons and practices followed in large corporations. Testing and seeking help from the professionals seem to be the options once we suspect being infected and have similar parallels in Ransomware resolutions. There is no reinstall or delete or restore from backup options for humans nor any proven widely accepted medication or vaccines as cure. Most countries rightly so are following and practicing available preventive options as steps to curb the menace. Stay indoors and Stay safe is the mantra until medication is discovered.

The non-material rudiments of true independence

0

It was for very good reason that my previous article pertained to free speech. This article of mine would be unpalatable to most, given the almost injudicious nature of nationalist sentiment in India. I therefore deemed it fit to explain the momentousness of free speech at length, appreciating which would make the current article of mine somewhat valid if not entirely emotionally palatable. For it evinces merely a view, which in my judgment is grounded in rationality and certainly not in contempt for India. Needless to say, a reader sensitized with the momentousness of free speech would find it prudent to contradict my essay not with the mercurial medium of hooliganism but with the tempered medium of academic rationalism.

For this article of mine shall raise questions on the very claim of us being independent. There is an apodictic case to be made insofar as administrative independence is concerned. I do not think, however, that this should be the only constituent of our independence.

I fail to discern the reasons behind the Indians’ celebration of their independence. Neither am I fanatically opposed to such celebrations, nor would I consider those who celebrate inferior to me. Expositions in a personal capacity as my sentences are, they would well be treated accordingly.

I must make manifest at the outset my sense of incredulity if not contempt at the reality that we as a nation are. I am keenly aware of the inordinate share that sentiment, as opposed to reason, constitutes amongst the Indian masses, at least a minuscule percentage whereof finds presence in the even more minuscule number of those who care to read my essays. Supposing, therefore, that the magniloquent language herein contained is legible, readers may well skip reading the impending paragraphs in order to not ail their sentiment. This advice of mine is directed at the munificent who cannot but preach love and humanity and thus scorn at pessimism and negativity, but even more so at the parochial jingoists who refuse to hear anything remotely negative about their country.

Nothing could constitute a greater affront to the legacy of this country’s freedom fighters than the citizens’ own sense of contempt for them. One may contend that to be the public is to exhibit a short memory. Granted, but could one exonerate the government for the same affront?

I suppose one and all have heard of the freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose. The official narrative is that he was the unfortunate victim of a plane crash dated 18 August 1945 in Taiwan. Could you be so gracious as to explain to me the reasons behind the monumental levels of snooping that independent India’s government mounted on his family? Not only was the government snooping on the Bose family, it was sending intelligence obtained there from to the British. The ignominy of it all does not cease here. A British MI5 official was in charge of India’s intelligence apparatus for almost two decades after independence. I am prepared to stand corrected, but it was my perception that an independent nation conducts itself in much more self-respectful a manner than as evinced in the aforementioned facts.

I am also prepared to stand corrected should the following perception of mine be falsified. An intelligence agency, as I understand it, is not a historical research apparatus. It is thus not in consonance with the realm of reason for it to invest so much in collecting intelligence pertinent to a man supposedly dead. Should one sift through the declassified files, one would discern that the powers-that-be were yet engaged in a hunt for the man himself. Was it to protect their metaphorical chairs of power? I cannot be certain. Regardless of the rationale, the fact that the state consistently narrated a fable to its citizens is indubitable. It is 2020, and seventy-seven files on Bose remain classified to date, despite the platinum jubilee of his disappearance having been transcended. I for one would cherish knowing the reason behind this classification. Perhaps this is not a democracy wherein politicians must be held accountable, but a feudal kingdom from the Dark Ages. In that event, I submit my sincerest apologies for having been under a major misconstruction.

As author Anuj Dhar’s meticulously researched books would prove — one of them co-authored with Chandrachur Ghose — Bose was very much alive, living incognito in India in the garb of a holy man since at least 1953, well until his demise on 16 September 1985. A select few revolutionary friends and politicians were aware of it and they kept his existence a secret on his express instructions. Police officers who attempted to investigate the identity of this “holy man” were abruptly transferred by the Uttar Pradesh government, and those who managed to gain access to him became his devotees overnight and maintained the secrecy.

Before I venture further, I seek to inform readers that the credibility of Anuj Dhar’s research is so high as to earn validation from the Allahabad High Court merely a few years ago. Not only was Bose alive, but as the written exchanges with his close circle of revolutionaries would prove, he was also planning covert military operations against Pakistan in 1971 before India officially entered the war, none of which materialized. He was also aware of the layout of the Jessore Cantonment in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) at least two months prior to its capture by the Indian Army.

Keeping into consideration the government’s overarching intelligence-gathering capabilities, it is impossible that it would have been unaware of his existence given that he was attempting machinations to such an extent. Some of those in the incognito Bose’s close circle go so far as to contend that Rameshwar Nath Kao (the first chief of India’s external intelligence agency R&AW), then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and even India’s thirteenth President Pranab Mukherjee (then only a member in the Congress party) had met Bose secretly on at least one occasion, although there is no written material to validate the same. There are a lot of unexplained facts: how, for instance, was he aware in 1966 of the fact that U.S. soldiers in Vietnam were drugged, when the matter came to the forefront only in the early 1970s? How was he aware in the 1960s of the existence of a secret underground bunker in Beijing when this knowledge was made public only in the 1990s?

He lived in extremely penurious and often inhospitable conditions, and he exhibited signs of a man completely broken from the inside having known that his dream of an undivided India had been shattered by the sanguinary Partition. The food supply was often insufficient.

A man who proved to be a catalyst for the exit of the British lived unrecognized and in penury. Despite this ignominy, there remain eminent members in the intelligentsia who call Bose a Nazi sympathizer merely because he happened to be practical: soliciting Hitler’s help in raising an army- not inviting Hitler for an invasion of India — in order to liberate the country. That the eminent voices in the intelligentsia should calumniate his pragmatic notion of, “My enemy’s enemy is my friend” is incisive of an ingrained fascination of pacifist idealism. How could a nation ungrateful to its own heroes truly be called independent?

The same could be contended in the context of yet another freedom fighter: Vinayak Damodar Savarkar: a nationalist at heart, nothing short of an emancipator to the Hindus, a poet, playwright and historian of sterling worth. Deeply influenced as he was with the philosophy of utilitarianism, many of his progressive ideas were too shocking to even contemplate for the orthodox Hindu community in Maharashtra.

Given the ludicrously incomplete abomination that passes off as history in India, it is often difficult to appreciate Savarkar’s motivation at a mass consolidation of Hindus. The “scholarly consensus” would lead one to construe the Congress as tragic hero that failed to prevent India’s partition caused by the British, the Muslim communalists and the Hindu communalists. Needless to say, the narrative is highly monochromatic and reprehensibly infantine. In an endeavour to pen a cogent argument in favour of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, a legislation brought forth by the government in December 2019, I explained the ramifications of the Khilafat movement of 1919 — a pernicious amalgamation of religion and politics wherein Muslims were mobilized on Islamist sentiment in order to demand the reinstation of the Turkish emperor vanquished by the Allies in World War 1, who also happened to be the caliph (leader of the Islamic world), who was himself not desired by the Turkish populace. Contrary to the popular narrative — of the supposed fraternity between the innocent Hindus and the Muslims having been shattered by the conniving British — it was the Khilafat, actively supported by the Congress, that sowed the seeds of Partition. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s epochal book, “Pakistan or the Partition of India” makes it amply evident, employing government data and incisive analysis of society in order to evince how innocent Hindus had been led by the much-revered Gandhi to support the perilous agitation for the Khilafat — a support which caused many Hindus their lives commencing with the horrendous genocide of the Hindu Nairs in Malabar at the hands of the Moplah Mahomedans.

The Khilafat having popularized sentiments of pan-Islamism, Savarkar discerned a threat to the Hindus which was merely a matter of time. No wonder, therefore, that he sought to consolidate the Hindus, being injudiciously attracted to the saintly aura of Gandhi, akin to the rats attracted to Pied Piper’s mesmerizing flute. He created an intellectual corpus in the form of a phenomenal booklet titled “Essentials of Hindutva”, perhaps his first book written in English, in order to secure a pan-India readership. The consolidation of the Hindus, therefore, was a defensive response to pan-Islamism, and the Partition could in great substance be attributed to Islamism and its endorsement by the Congress; and definitely not imaginary “Hindu communalism”.

Not that there were no communal incidents perpetrated by the Hindus, but it was never institutionalized. Hindus were much more known for social reform movements such as those carried out by the Arya Samaj, the Brahmo Samaj, Shuddhi and so forth. The communalism perpetrated by the Muslim League, however, was institutionalized. From Syed Ahmed Khan to Allama Iqbal and from Ali brothers to Jinnah, the most prominent among them were all advocates of Islamism. It is fallacious to equate Jinnah with Savarkar; the former demanded more and more special concessions whereas the latter spoke of strict equality and even advocated State aid to minority institutions — in proportion of the taxes they paid, that is.

Being the intellectual fount of the ideology of Hindutva espoused in theory by the incumbent BJP, Savarkar is often the choice target of the most virulent and sordid opprobria by the proponents of the Left, the proponents of Islamism as well as self-proclaimed liberals. Condemned as he was to fifty years of imprisonment by the British to the horror prisons of the Andamans, he did not hesitate to pen highly cogent — and may I add eloquent — petitions to the Government of (British) India.

They target Savarkar on this count with a vexatiously high frequency, quoting paragraphs from his petitions out of context without the slightest of ignominy. I wrote an answer on Quora explaining his petitions in a comprehensive manner, concluding that penning such petitions was a good strategy. When those targeting Savarkar have no argument left in their quiver, they fabricate that he gave the title “Veer” to himself, whereas it was in fact fellow revolutionary Wamanrao Joshi who did so at a public function, as noted by Savarkar’s biographer Dr. Vikram Sampath.

A dedicated reading of “My Transportation for Life” written by Savarkar as well as Dr. Sampath’s comprehensive biography on him would perhaps inflict a tremor on a conscientious man’s spirit. For this account of events would have sufficed to demolish the myth that British Raj was somehow benign. Despite having been subjected to months of chained solitary confinement, with his cell facing the gallows where fellow revolutionaries would routinely be executed and thus being tormented by their screams, having to live in his own squalour as did many fellow revolutionaries imprisoned at the Andamans, extracting a substantial amount of oil by running the kolhu as would be expected of a bull and a substantial load of other mistreatment, Savarkar, notwithstanding occasional thoughts of suicide, did not lose his fortitude. He went to the extent of agitating for prison reforms, and was successful in improving the lives of many prisoners by helping them get rid of their addictions and inculcate in them a habit of reading.

In his petitions to the British, he acted as an advocate for his fellow revolutionaries many of whom were illiterate and had no knowledge of either English or the law. They looked up to him as their leader, and addressed him as Bada Babu. Perhaps the most manifest instances of his selfless fervour are his paragraphs asking for continued imprisonment should his release be considered an obstacle to the release of the rest, and other paragraphs which make an impassioned and cogent case for the same dignified treatment for Indian revolutionaries as would be given to revolutionaries in other nations.

The irony of it all is that Britain today recognizes Savarkar as an Indian patriot by means of a plaque at the (formerly) India House in Britain — and vested Indian interests label him a coward, an apologist of the British and a Muslim hater whereas, in fact, he fits none of these disparaging labels.

The very fact that governments at both the state and centre can even dream of erasing his dignity is evincive of the deeply ingrained sense of ingratitude this nation has towards those who wielded arms for the nation, and celebrates only those such as Gandhi and Nehru, who chose the path of constitutionalist struggle — no less significant given its mass appeal to even the poor. Even Sardar Patel is not celebrated as much.

My concern is not restricted to appearing hilariously delusional in discussions in a cosmopolitan environment — recounting nothing but protests while the Americans recount their revolutionary war and tactics against the British — my concern is more profound than that. Incomplete history serves as an apt propellant for intellectual dishonesty. A nation that cannot be truthful as regards its own past could possibly not be expected to be honest about its future. As Major General G.D. Bakshi said during one of his speeches, “Where you go depends on where you come from.” Has India come only from the legacy of the non-violent mass movement where socialism prevailed as propounded by history? Then it cannot expect to be an industrialized nation with a technologically salient military as its politicians routinely dream. India has earned its lethargic bureaucracy courtesy of the British colonial system coupled with the inefficiency of and corruption fostered by socialism. We tend to trivialize the variegated ways in which the legacy of the past affects us. Unidimensional propagation of history shall not let India transcend its socialist and pacifist inebriation.

With the phenomenon of reinvestigation into history having been particularly invigorated after the ascension of Narendra Modi to power in 2014, hidden facts are being revealed and popularized with hitherto unseen vigour. In such circumstances, the academia that has hitherto reigned on its writings evincive of omissions and fabrications shall try its best to preserve the status quo. Two types of responses can be expected, namely, (a) this is unverified information; (b) we have material problems such as poverty to deal with, so we must move on. It is easy to refute the former argument. To the latter, one would do well to say, “One never moves on”.

The Americans never moved on after their independence from Britain. They moved forward with the stern realities of the past kept into consideration. The United States of America was the first experiment with a republic in modern history, envisioned by its founding fathers as a paragon of liberty. Would it have served the USA well to have forgotten the significance of its revolutionary war and moved on as if nothing had happened? Would it have served the USA well to have forgotten the Second World War and retreat into isolation? Why must then India move on and ignore history? It is the very utility of history to serve as accumulated wisdom. The Jews never forgot the Holocaust. It is the memory thereof that has compelled them to narrate their story as survivors to the nations of the world. To that extent, perhaps polemically, denying the Holocaust could warrant legal repercussions in certain countries. India, I contend, has survived even more monumental an onslaught on its heritage. India must progress with the memories of its history ingrained in its consciousness, for it shall not allow India to rest. Its past shall encourage India to persevere. The stories of its resilience shall serve as a propellant for India to progress.

I would be prevaricating and thereby untruthful towards India in the event that I choose to participate in independence day celebrations knowing that I am not truly free. One may contend that India shall be plagued with problems notwithstanding the materialization of all I have enumerated above. I do understand that India shall not assuredly transform into a utopia. Yet, the foregoing parameters, I submit, constitute the fundamental necessities of advancing to the next stage in the unceasing endeavour at evolution.

The following are the questions, therefore, that I pose to the Indians, me included:

  • Will we celebrate innovation, entrepreneurship and government non-interference in business — something that shall generate jobs, contribute to economic growth and secure our lives?
  • Will we of our own accord without overly relying on the academia, write and popularize our true history and inspire our forthcoming generations, without bothering about religious sentiment?
  • Will we of our own accord accept absolute freedom of speech and expression save perhaps such of it as may be barred under the Brandenburg precedent or an Indian equivalent thereof?
  • Will we with our sheer numbers compel numerous political parties to transcend their feudal dispositions and comport in a manner as would befit a modern democracy?
  • Will the best of us devise and normalize modern pedagogy and improve our education so as to generate skilled human resources for the future?
  • Will we transcend religious, caste, gender and all other differences and pledge our allegiance to none other than the Tricolour — the Trivarna Dhwaja — that waves atop the Siachen Glacier and the Red Fort with equal resplendence, and to your individual Dharma?

Should the answer to all of the aforesaid be a reverberant affirmative, I shall see no irony in celebrating Independence Day in its truest form. Here is hoping that our society develops prudence enough to read through my essay — or any essay, book, blog et al with similar thoughts — without feeling offended, for that shall be a single yet monumental stepping stone to our intellectual evolution.

Obsessions of Hindu Bengalis in West Bengal

0

Three fixations of Hindu Bengalis (born in 1930s,1940s and 1950s) are worth mentioning:

  1. To nurture the illusion of socialism / communism.
  2. To idealize the illusion of pseudo secularism.
  3. To develop an infatuation for the Bollywood songs.

The generations mentioned above have faced significant political changes like the following: 1. The independence of India and the partition of the country. 2. Inclusion of secularism and socialism in the Preamble to the Constitution. 3. Capture of power by CPM in West Bengal (WB) in1977 and its continuation up to 2011. 4. Rule of Trinamul party since then.

As a consequence of the partition and with the dominance of Delhi in the power politics of India, they simultaneously and gradually saw erosion of their political power and economic decay. Flight of capital led to rampant unemployment and in turn to inferiority complex in the Bengalis. They became anti-establishment, resorted to agitational politics and pitched for socialism / communism. This was aided and abetted by the western educational system followed in Kolkata and the state. These institutes promoted Western tradition and culture at the cost of Bharatiya values and ethos. Hindu traditions and rituals were looked down upon.

The Congress and the Leftist found it expedient to pursue such educational policy and ensured that the history of Bharatbarsha is gradually demeaned and the history of foreigners, particularly, of the Mughals and the English extolled. Also, pseudo-secularism was promoted to marginalize the Hindu majority politically. The left-liberals, media, academia and intellectuals were given all sinecure positions, scholarships, foreign trips and plum postings and they started propagating and teaching the cause of pseudo secularism such that it was ingrained into the Bengali psyche. It was facilitated by the Congress and the leftists who then dominated Bengal politics, media and academics. WB thus became a fertile ground for idealizing and nurturing communism and pseudo secularism.

Over the past hundred years, there have been more than two dozen attempts globally to build a socialist society. It has been tried in the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, Albania, Poland, Vietnam, Bulgaria, Romania, Czechoslovakia, North Korea, Hungary, China, East Germany, Cuba, Tanzania, Laos, South Yemen, Somalia, the Congo, Ethiopia, Cambodia, Mozambique, Angola, Nicaragua and Venezuela, among others—not counting the very short-lived ones. All of these attempts have ended in varying degrees of failure. Yet the obsessed never learn.

The latter part of CPM rule and the TMC rule saw a degree of fraternization between Muslims and others in WB for common political interests. This ultimately led to diverse electoral alliance and vote bank politics. True secularism is justice for all and appeasement for none. But, for the left liberal politicians, it actually means appeasement of minorities because it is necessary for vote bank politics.

The people in ancient India had freedom of religion. Ellora cave temples built next to each other between 5th and 10th centuries, for example, shows a coexistence of religions and a spirit of acceptance of different faiths. This approach to interfaith relations changed with the arrival of Islam. The political doctrines of Islam, as well as its religious views were at odds with doctrines of liberal Hinduism and other Indian religions. Construction of temples and monasteries were not allowed. Jizya taxes were imposed on Hindus and forced conversions not infrequent. They continue to be at odds with true secularism.

Democracy, even if with large aberrations, may be said to prevail in West Bengal. All these happenings may be construed therefore to be the outcome of popular choice. But one should learn looking at the economic and social impacts resulting from these happenings. “I watched the city of my childhood steadily go to ruin,” said political scientist Sumit Ganguly in 2011. “Unions rose, industry fled, law and order deteriorated. It has a significant effect on my life and the lives of my family.” Even now, the state’s economy is in doldrums with employment generation, virtually standstill. Corruption has become pandemic. Muslims have been radicalized. This and large demographic changes in favour of Muslims lead to apprehension of 2nd partition.

This is also the time when Hindi started to gain prominence over English and other regional languages. People were inclined to learn Hindi as the central govt. proactively promoted it. The 3 Language formula led to substitution of Bangla by Hindi as 1st or 2nd language. In the job market, preference for Hindi knowing started revealing. Today, every marketing call received on telephone is in Hindi. All this and the inferiority complex made Bengalis turn to Hindi. In the meantime, Bollywood films and music were becoming popular all over India and specially in WB. In the regional TV music channels, more than 50% are Bollywood songs. Even in Bangla serials, such songs are used more often than not. Bengalis are turning away from nurturing their own language which is gradually yielding place to Hindi and Urdu.
