Nitin Gadkari’s viral speech could be a vaccine for Good Governance

Thus spake Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways and Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. It is as if the Delphi’s oracle has spoken. Narendar Modi 2.0 would do well to listen. Not assume that it was meant for Babulog. The direct, simple, straight speech was brutal and sharp and aimed at total lack of Governance among the Governing class. It is not confined to bureaucracy. The Ministers and Ministries are at the helm. They cannot absolve themselves of the blame and plead helplessness. We voted Modi big, not once but twice, with a comfortable majority not to offer excuses, and after 6 years in office, with four more to go.

Nitin Gadkari spoke his heart out. And the choice of words in the vernacular (Hindi), was not sarcastic and aimed as barbs. They were incisive and meant to hurt. The occasion was the virtual opening of the new National Highways Authority of India building in Dwarka, Gujarat on 26th Oct,2020. He was truly ashamed and disgusted when he laid into the NHAI officials. But he posted a smiling visage to tell how sick he felt even when camouflaging his true feelings.

OMG. He spoke what the common man talks day in and day out, in street corners. But he cannot reach the ears of the powers that be. Leave alone for a responsible and responsible attention, for even being heard out. The reformist Premier P V Narasimha Rao made ‘indecision’ a famous ‘decision’ by itself. Add to his ‘law will take its own course’’, ‘indecision too is a decision’, is his fabulous contribution to the lexicon in governance. It is truly amazing to note that it was this ‘indecision’ man  who took India on the reform path in 1991.

Delay and indecision are the bane afflicting governance, like no other viruses. Covid19 is nothing compared to it. They are present forever and everywhere. The opportunity cost arising from delay and indecision, if computed on the economic or commercial  scale, would rival the GDP figures. We have rarely, if ever, computed such costs. They would be mind boggling, if we did, but unlikely  to goad the ‘delayers/indecisers’ to refrain from such conduct. Nitin Gadkari hit hard but to what effect?

As a practicing lawyer one is rudely aware of the economic losses that governments’ suffer in terms of pursuing wasteful litigation. Nani Palkhivala had pointed out that, on an average, over 50% of the pending litigation, was always associated with the government. They rarely took the call to ‘boldly decide but always took the easy route to leave it to the court to decide’, as Justice Krishna Iyer put it. Unwillingness and inability to decide are rampant and it costs dearly the exchequer in terms of inestimable time-cost and money-cost.

Nitin Gadkari boldly alluded to a contractor’s claim and his advice to the offocials to try and settle a claim of Rs.475 crores for Rs.375 crores. Alas, not to be. Ministry indulged in  avoidable  litigation which led to a loss of more than Rs.1000 crores, due to the delay. Who was accountable for it? Who would compensate the State for the State? No one . We The people lost  it for good and ever.

In the name of disciplinary action, we are aware of departmental proceedings for a ‘decision taken’ and ‘loss caused’. Have we ever heard of  proceedings initiated against officials for not deciding or delaying a decision? Never. There is thus no accountability or consequences from delaying or not deciding. On the other hand, since their ‘decisions’ could be called into question, it seems to suit them not to decide or delay, and leaving it to the next in line to decide. Shameful state of affairs this, and Nitin Gadkari flagged it off in colourful language, which is best enjoyed, when not translated.

What can Narendra Modi do? For starters, he can appoint a Committee of Experts in the domain of say Taxation or Commercial claims in  Arbitration, at whatever stage, those with impeccable credentials and integrity, to examine the pending disputes. And recommend closure with solutions or compromises of mutual benefit. After much pushing, cajoling, prodding Central Board of Direct Taxes came out with a decision not to file appeals before High Courts and Supreme Court, from orders of the Tax Tribunals involving  amounts less than say  Rs.1 and 2 crores. That itself has enabled closure of a large number of cases, unclogging humongous  sums caught up in litigation for all stakeholders.

Pendency is a huge menace in judiciary. As Nani Palkhivala said, we are  worse than snails in a snails’ universe. While the world has  shifted gears to Rolls Royce, we are still riding on snails. There are any number of cases pending before High Courts and Supreme Court, which may be covered by law already decided. Just that, they are in queue waiting to be listed, know not when. There may be any number commercial litigations being pursued or defended by Governments, only because their officers were scared or unwilling to decide. They have made procrastination into an art form now morphed into indecision awaiting a decision from a court of law, so that they are rid of the responsibility to decide. Shame.

Nitin Gadkari’s speech must become compulsory syllabus for trainee administrators. Vignettes from it must be broadcast daily in the corridors of the Ministries, as hard not gentle reminders .More importantly, Modi 2.0 would do well to forthwith constitute a Committee of Experts in the domains of tax and commercial arbitration, and seek their recommendations on pending litigations. On the need to pursue them or seek a closure by way of compromise.  The pandemic times may be best suited for it for we cannot afford to waste a crisis.

Beyond all this, for governance to have meaning, there must be reward and punishment, not of the usual generic kind. There must be reward for those who decide and not procrastinate or delay. Equally, punishment  for those who  delay and not decide as a matter of convenience. While giving confidence to those who decide honestly with integrity, that their decisions would be supported, even when  wrong or mistaken, there is dire need to send home a strong message that delay and indecision can never be made virtues of, for lasting a lifetime in the services. Let Nitin Gadkari first play the speech to his neta Narenda Modi and the Cabinet and let us know  how and what they ‘decide’.

What insight do we take from the life of Marudu Pandiyan brothers

0

This article is more of a wake-up call for self-introspection and not just tributes to the “Marudu Pandiyan brothers” fondly called as Marudu sagodharargal in tamil, meaning Marudu brothers.

Periya Marudu and Chinna Marudu the chieftains born and ruled the parts of today’s Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai districts through their bravery, threatened the existence of the Christian Missionary supported British invaders in Southern part of today’s Tamilnadu. That was the time when, another chieftain Veerapandiya Kattabomman, a patriot cum devout – the trade mark characteristic combination of any Tamilian, was hanged to death by the invading Christian British army. Marudu brothers had supported Kattabomman earlier also and had recently helped the jail break for Kattaboman’s brothers Oomaithurai and Sevathaiah. This made the British which was concentrating and eliminating one enemy at a time turned their sight towards the Marudu brothers.

A patriot cum devout – the trade mark characteristic combination of any Tamilian

Unable to fight and win the conventional war the British Christian Army used a cunning plan and threatened to blast the Kaleeswarar temple (shiv temple commonly known by the name Kalaiyar Kovil in today’s Sivagangai district of Tamilnadu). Being a true tamilian the epitome of both valour and devotion to sanatana god, at least until the ingress of Christianity and Dravidianism (which is nothing but Christianity as the intellect and monetary support base is the same for both) The Marudu Brothers surrendered to save the temple from destruction.

Marudu Brothers hanged in Tirupattur Fort
Marudu Brothers hanged in Tirupattur Fort

The Christian generals hanged them and left the bodies for next two days. The whole family including kids, old people were killed by the British in fear of an uprising. Also carnage of 1000s of tamil people were done who came in support of Marudu Brothers and the temple. All this was on 24th Oct 1801. My point in penning this post is to give my three take away and put forth three questions for the youth to think further.

British Rule in India has a two pronged strategy – loot wealth in the name of business + religious conversion in the name of liberalization / modernization.

1. Even many of us in tamilnadu fail to recognise, leave away celebrate and respect, the sacrifice and bravery of such people. What has been the purpose and quality of our education?

2. The wiki mediums which are always perceived to give more than what we know had too little (about these people) than what I learnt in my childhood two decades ago. Same is the condition when I searched for a few Maratha warriors very commonly quoted on daily basis in Maharashtra. Is someone systematically removing the legacy of valor, courage, bravery examples? If so who & why?

3. Many fringe groups which say that they are promoting Tamil language, Tamil culture quote and praise many persons like for example the one who was responsible for the death of lakhs of tamils in foreign soil, the one who at 72 married a girl half his age, the one who had three wives and spoke about women empowerment, etc. Why doesn’t any major Tamil group quote Kattabomman and Marudu brothers as role models to follow?

4. Britishers were not here in India for developing this country. They destroyed the education, cultural, economic backbone. It was a two pronged strategy- loot wealth in the name of trade/ business + religious conversion in the name of modernization/ liberalisation. Don’t be fixated to railways it was just to transport raw materials from nooks and corners to port cities for feeding the mad industrialisation in the West. Read about what we lost in educational sector (no. of Gurukuls prior to the Christian invasion), economical downfall (India’s GDP wrt the World’s GDP before 18th century)

5. It’s not just Goa, many parts (or for this case most parts) of India were also subjected to some subtle forms of inquisition (violent Christian methods of inculcating Christian beliefs). And Tamilnadu wasn’t an exception. See the crudeness of leaving the dead body hanging for days and the brutality of killing the kids and mass execution of people who stood for temple protection.

6. Today’s youth as always are perceived to be rebellious but nothing wrong until they are rooted and understand not just the cause they stand for but also the route they take to achieve it. Remember our Marudu Brothers for what values they held to, which made them do what they did.

Is qutub minar a Hindu Monument?

0

A lot of thanks and credits to Praveen Mohan

At present and even before, nearly all the people who know slightly about Qutub Minar, (Minar means a tower or a minaret) believe that it was built by Qutub-ud-din-aibak, as the name also suggests. Qutub-ud-din belonged to the Mamluk dynasty, or slave dynasty. He was a slave of Muhammad Ghori, a religiously-maniac, cruel, foreign invader, who invaded Bharat (earlier name of India) in the last 12th century. The Qutub Minar is portrayed as the most important achievement of Qutub-ud-din-aibak. But, does this breathtaking monument was really built by a Muslim ruler. You will be able to know the truth by the end of this.

So, I shall start.

Observation of the qutub minar complex-

Along with the minaret, the Qutub Minar complex also contains some other monuments which include a mosque called the Jama-Masjid, and also have the ruins of some ancient structures. Have a look on these ruins.

These ruins are of an ancient temple. Yes it is true. It will be more clear by these pictures below.

The four pictures shown above can only be present in a temple. The first one shows the carvings of bells, the second shows the defaced carving of Ganesh, a Hindu god, the third shows the defaced Hindu carvings and symbols, and the fourth one shows the war scene from the epic of the Ramayan. There are many other defaced carvings which belong to a Hindu temple. The fact is that, bells and idols are prohibited in islam, so it is not possible that these structures were made by a Muslim ruler. It must have been made prior to qutub-ud-din. Look at the next picture.

There is an uncompleted dome over this demolished temple structure. Why this dome was built here? Actually, the muslim invaders who invaded India didn’t bother to demolish the old structures, and built a new one. They simply used to create a dome over the top, defaced and erased the carvings, polished and plastered the walls.

That is what they had tried to do with this structure. But, they might have faced some kind of inconvenience or any such thing in doing these things with this structure, and that is why they left the dome uncompleted and demolished this structure, and created the mosque nearby.

But, does the mosque was built as a new structure, or was it also built on any existing older structure. Have a look on the dome of the mosque, not from outside but from inside.

By looking the dome from inside, anyone can clearly see that the work is done properly. This is not polished, moreover, it looks like someone has scrapped or destroyed something here. But, what does the dome look like from inside.

This is a type of dome, which is built like a lotus, which is quite similar in many temples. This dome has many levels, from bottom to top, which looks similar to the above picture of the dome of the mosque. It looks like the sculptors of the mosque tried to plain the dome by scratching the dome from inside.

But, this is not the only thing. Look at the structure of the mosque.

You can clearly see that the walls, pillars and the dome of the mosque are built with the same material, but the dome from outside is made from another material, which is not possible if the present mosque structure was completely built by the muslim ruler qutub-ud-din.

Even if you will look at the walls inside this present mosque structure, it will look like the sculptors had just scratched the whole wall, and just put on new plaster to cover up the Hindu carvings.

This will become more clear if you walk in through the present mosque structure without looking at the dome, you can’t realize that it is a mosque. It will look like as you are walking in through a temple. This will become more clear by the pictures below.

If you will show these pictures to anyone without telling that it is a mosque structure, almost everyone will agree that it is a temple structure. But, what about the minaret itself. The minaret is surrounded by the Hindu structures all-over.

Even the base of the minaret is surrounded by the Hindu structures, which you can see in the picture below.

But, what about the minaret itself.

The qutub minar

To understand whether the minaret is a Hindu structure or not, we first need to look why this was built. Most of the historians say that it was built as a tower to serve the purpose of calling the people to gather in the mosque for prayer.

But there is a serious problem in this theory. This minaret is 238 feet high, and it will take about 45 minutes for a fit person to reach the top. So, it will take around 1.20 hours each time to reach the top. And, one more thing is that in Islam, the prayer is done 5 times each day.

Therefore, it will take about 6 hours each day to do up-down and calling everyone for the prayer, which doesn’t seem realistic. But, there is one more problem. Even if anyone reaches the top and shouts with full potential, no one on the ground is going to listen anything.

So, this theory is nothing more than nonsense.

Moreover, if the mosque is the main building and the minaret was just built for calling everyone for the prayer in the main building, why the minaret is decorated so beautifully, and the mosque looks like an ordinary building?

Why the minaret which was just a tower was decorated and adorned with the verses of Quran in Arabic, while the primary building, i.e., the mosque was left undecorated? This theory that this was a tower is not possible.

Another possible explanation given to this is that this was actually a watch tower, built to keep watch on the enemy. This is a not more than a joke as qutub-ud-din did not built any fort for which he would have needed any watch tower, and moreover, qutub-ud-din made his capital in the city of Lahore, which is hundreds of miles away from the city of Delhi where this monument is built.

So, this theory is just a joke.

There is another theory believed by many historians that the minaret was not built completely by one ruler.

Instead, the first storey was built was built by the qutub-ud-din and the other storeys were built by rulers who came after him.

But, if qutub-ud-din built this as a single-storeyed monument, he must had made a shallow foundation, and the other rulers would have to go to the base and deepen the foundation, otherwise the monument would have crumbled down; and for this the new ruler had to demolish the monument.

But, according to this theory, each time a ruler would have decided to add a new storey, they would have to demolish the whole structure each time.

This is a joke. It is not possible, to demolish the entire structure and made a new one just to add a new storey.

No one would do this.

This is the same like anyone would say that the Empire-state building was initially built as single-floored house, and then people just kept adding new floors to it.

It would be a very bad joke.

There is a logical thing. The sculptors who can’t complete a dome on a Hindu structure and left it uncompleted and were even unable to demolish the structure completely, who just added a dome to the another Hindu structure, and plastered the walls to make it not look like a Hindu structure, built this breathtaking monument in just 4 years. This does not seem logical at all.

Now, another more important thing is that the name of the muslim ruler qutub-ud-din-aibak is clearly mentioned in the inscriptions on the mosque, but his name is not mentioned anywhere on the minaret itself.

If he had ordered to inscribe his name on a simple present-day mosque structure, why did not he order to inscribe his name on such a breathtaking monument? Now, another thing is that, if qutub minar was not built by Hindu rulers, then it means that the sculptors who built these Hindu structures left a circular place of 50-feet diameter in between these structures, so that after years (most probably decades) any muslim ruler will come and he would have to face no problem in building any structure at that place.

This is absolutely nonsense. Now, also have a close look on the minaret.

The minaret is also beautifully adorned with bells.

This is not possible that any Muslim ruler can built these bells because bells are strictly prohibited in Islam. Now, someone may argue that the qutub-ud-din forcibly made this monument by the Hindu residents of this country, and those Hindus draw these bells.

This is also not possible, and there are two reasons behind this. First, such a breathtaking monument cannot be made by forced labors, but needs skilled sculptors.

Second, the Muslim rulers severely punished anyone for even small mistakes, and they were especially cruel when it came to non-Mmuslims, Hindus here.

So, it is not possible that the forced Hindu labors had built these bells. Even the present name of this monument, i.e., Qutub Minar was coined just in the 18th century, cause this name does not exist in any of the recorded or written history before that.

Even in the book asar-us-sanadid, it is clearly written that this monument was not built by qutub-ud-din. In fact, the monument was built by Hindu rulers, much before qutub-ud-din. The important point here is that this book was written by a Muslim. Now, I am not going to say anything more.

Anyone who is reading this; I advise him/her to use his his/her conscience and think carefully.

Please think on whatever you have read and try to figure out that, whatever the historians and archaeologists have told us about our history and our ancestors, is that true?

Thank you to all who have read this. And, once again a lot of thanks to Praveen Mohan.

T20 and Republic Tv are different, modern and enviable

0

Introduction of T20 cricket was one of the revolutionary things happened to cricketing world. Cricket enthusiasts in general welcomed the shortest form of cricket. But idealists and purists don’t like it much. Bishan Singh Bedi, by his own admission, is not fan of T20 cricket. Michael Holding once said that T20 is destroying Test Cricket. But back then in 2007-08, after the enormously successful inaugural T20 world cup, cricketing boards were thinking about encashing this new euphoria and hence Indian Premier League (IPL), which is one of the most successful sports leagues in the world, was born. The rivalry to be first and best in T20 cricket league was so much that in fact, England Cricket Board (ECB) didn’t allow its players to participate in IPL. Nevertheless, the reality was, T20 was rapidly gaining popularity and was spreading the game of cricket to new nations. Not only that, it created more opportunities for cricketers to shine, it also crated new jobs. Kids got attracted to cricket.

The game itself had become more competitive. Professional cricketers had to acquire new skills and as a result, tests matches were played more positively, with ambition to dominate and win rather than just survive. After all this success, can anyone call T20 illegitimate? Is T20’s monetary success an indication of corruption? Does T20 have more fan following and stadium attendance due to some scam or malpractice? And finally, can anyone think of stopping T20 and yet keep game’s popularity alive? Only someone who is dishonest with the self can answer Yes to any of the above questions.

Now, let’s replace T20 with Republic Tv. Like T20, Republic Tv is not orthodox. Republic Tv was needed because the traditional form of journalism was becoming less effective. It was far from reality, far from what young and modern-day people were looking for. People were tired of journalists serving their own agenda than voicing public concerns. Radia Tapes and Cash for votes scams are proof for that. Journalists didn’t want to take side on live TV but would run campaigns to suit a particular line of thinking. Contrary to that, Republic Tv and Arnab Goswami are often seen to take sides unabashedly. Not just anchors, but even panelists feel completely free to voice their opinion on Republic Tv. Many people talk at the same time and that’s why it can get noisy. That’s one of the reasons why some people don’t prefer watching Republic Tv. It’s their choice. But there is a market for such type of reporting.

People like the fact that there is someone asking genuine and basic questions rather than intellectualizing debates. People like to see Arnab playing on front foot and hitting some of its panelists for sixes (btw he hit Sanjay Jha out of the stadium once). Make no mistake, Republic Tv is as popular as T20 Cricket among youngsters. Like T20, Republic Tv has created a market for itself through legitimate means. It has highest TRP and that’s why it is earning good money. It’s a bad omen for its competitors and that’s why they are out in open, opposing Republic Tv (remember ECB opposing IPL), asking their advertisers to stop sponsoring (and instead move to their own channels). Their jealousy was full on display the day Param Bir Singh held the controversial and infamous press conference.

Recently, Hon. Supreme Court asked Republic Tv to put on affidavit its concerns and responses for the various cases and complaints filed against it. Hopefully, SC will also look into the intent of these cases. Are they malicious? Who is behind it? Why is Republic Tv singled out? Is there any proof? Is any law being misused? Is any constitutional position being misused? If yes, can that person remain at that position of trust? At this juncture, if SC turns away Republic Tv, then it will be tantamount to chopping wings of a free bird before it learns to fly high on its own. Republic Tv cannot be stopped. It should not be stopped by those who don’t like it. Period.

The myth of moderate Muslim: 95% v 5%?

0

A series of all too familiar events took place over the last few days and weeks in France. A French teacher Samuel Paty beheaded over showing cartoons of Mohammad Bin Abdullah, the prophet of Islam and butchering of three citizens in a Nice Church.

One would have expected a wave of solidarity with France and it’s citizens from across the globe but what one saw instead was a pushback. What riled the Muslims globally was a speech delivered by Macron, incidentally prior to the beheading of teacher, where he called out “Islamist separatism” while proclaiming it wrong to “stigmatise all Muslims”.

There have been protests and calls to boycott French products across Pakistan, Syria, Bangladesh, Gaza, including India (Mumbai, Bhopal, Aligarh etc.) with likes of Raza Academy, AIMPLB joining in. The leaders of Pakistan, Turkey, Malaysia (two time President Mahathir Mohammad) have attacked French President and bogey of ‘Islamophobia’ has been raised.

TV debates on the above events on Indian TV channels over protests in India had Muslim participants whose responses were broadly on lines. One who blatantly defended the beheading and abused Macron, second who went around the bush and did not condemn the beheading it in a straight forward manner and the third who condemned the beheading. While the first one had no compunctions of proclaiming beheading to be the last resort since their Nabi was insulted (Munawwar Rana, Farhan Zuberi), the other two claimed that Islam had nothing to do with this and that most Muslims are moderate Muslims.

It is this last claim which I seek to examine in this article, that of most Muslims being moderate Muslims and having nothing to do with Islamist terrorism whatsoever.

This argument of majority of Muslims being Moderate Muslims who are concerned with day-to-day needs and are being blamed for what the 1% does has been repeated ad nauseam. However, does this argument really hold any water?

The Pyramid Of Radicalisation:

(Source :  https://www.researchgate.net/figure/The-pyramid-model-of-radicalisation_fig2_311761712 )

Islamist terrorism which is blamed on just 1% does not act on a vacuum. A look at the above pyramid would show that the top of the pyramid is populated by terrorists which pick up guns and go around killing.

However they are supported by a huge ecosystem which supplies money, arms, logistics, recruiters etc.

The 3rd level includes the supporters who support the ideology of Islamism. They justify the killing or beheadings as under the Shariat.

The pyramid expands towards the bottom and the base of the pyramid is of the huge number of sympathisers. These Muslims may not agree with the violent means employed by Terrorists but they strongly support the larger ideology which is common among most Muslims. This can be seen from 2017 Pew research findings of support among Muslims for Shariah across the globe.

(Source:  https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/08/09/muslims-and-islam-key-findings-in-the-u-s-and-around-the-world/)

This huge 4th category can be seen routinely which refuse to ever question Islam or allow anyone to question it either. Their only excuse being the context or misinterpretation of Quran, Hadith or Sirat. This can be seen across mainstream media on TV, newspapers or the social media like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etc. The opinion among Muslims is amazingly uniform with few exceptions across nations, across sects among Islam, and across these platforms.

The actions of the 4th category can be seen in terms of support for Shariat in Islamic nations which transmogrifies into accusations of Islamophobia where Muslims are not in a majority, the latter serving the purposes of applying blasphemy law in countries which do not have it in legal books.

The responsibility of Islamist terror and radicalisation does not simply lie with eh tip of the pyramid but the entire pyramid which supports and nurtures it either through ideological support or through logistics.

Hence, it is not the 1% which is defaming Islam but perhaps the 95% which is defaming the 5% for not falling in line with the rest of Islamic Ummat.

Reject rightism: Redefining our political orientation

0

A discussion on Rightism can hardly take place without Leftism. Although the terms “left wing” and “right wing” originally referred to the seating arrangements of politicians in French Assembly during the French Revolution, the terms in recent times are used to designate ideological positions. Needless to say, the Left and the Right are logically opposed to each other, but these mutually exclusive signifiers form a pair.

Leftism vs Rightism

Left-wing politics, or Leftism, refers to the political position which protests against all forms of oppression and supports equality. The proxies of Leftism is a degenerate form of political activism. The rejection of Leftism is imperative for two distinct reasons. The evolution of Leftism under Western socio-historical tradition makes it exogenous to Bharatiya socio-political tradition. Leftism looks at Bharatiya social formation through a Western lens and attempts to dismantle power dimensions through antagonistic coercion. Again, Leftism has a record of complicit engagement with forces that try to break sovereignty and integrity of Bharat. It is important to note that since Rightism evolves as a binary opposition to Leftism, it is indeed a resisting force to the degenerative Leftist agenda. However, Rightism is not a constructive force and does not define the identity of a Bharatiya.

Neither Left nor Right

Rightism, knowingly or unknowingly, gives importance to Leftism since we align our activism as a resisting force against the degenerate Leftist agenda. Indeed, we need to oppose the Left, but our primary political activism cannot be Rightism since it is predominantly a resisting force and not a constructive force that nurtures our roots. In clear terms, to nurture our civilizational roots we are neither Leftist, nor Rightist.

From discovery to criminalization

Jawaharlal Nehru published a book with an interesting title, The Discovery of India (1946). Echoing Nehru, Shashi Tharoor, a Congress leader, entitled his book Nehru: The Invention of India (2003). Congress’s play with “discovery” and “invention” is unclear, and the signification hardly elevates beyond superficiality. What is lacking in their book is a deep sense of Bharat.

After independence, our country fell in the hands of leaders who had love for power but had no vision. Such leaders had not properly represented our country to the world. As a consequence, what we still experience is that the global liberal elites repeatedly attempt at criminalizing the word Bharat. These global liberal elites work in close consanguinity with the liberal elites within our country.

The cold conspiracy of the Leftist nexus operating at local and global levels against Bharat reveals their insidious intention of destroying our Vedic tradition, civilization, sanātan dharma, spiritual knowledge and culture. Such conspiracy makes us aware of the fact that we need to redefine our political activism. The most important pillar of such political activism is spreading awareness about the sense of Bharat. We stay in the country Bharatvarsh, unfortunately, many of us do not know the meaning of Bharat!

Bharat

The consciousness of being a Bharatiya is our devotion (vande mataram) for Bharat Mata. This vandana implies that Bharat is more than a territorial engagement by a political group of people. Bharat (भारत) is related to “भरत” which is derived from भृ verb root (धातुः) meaning to hold and to nurture. One should keep in mind that our country is the home to a wide range of flora and fauna (or rich biodiversity). Bharat (भारत) is a compound word (उणादि) made up of “भा” meaning lustre, or light, or brightness, and “रत” meaning attachment, or devotion, or seeker. Thus, following the nirvachana (निर्वचन) tradition “भारत” also means that which is attached to or devoted to light. Interestingly, the Sanskrit word Bharata is a description of Agni and our country is the home to people who worship fire and sun. Metaphorically, Bharat (भारत) means seeker of Brahma Gyan (ब्रह्म ज्ञान), spiritual knowledge or ultimate wisdom.

The origin of the name of our country is shrouded in mystery. The Rigveda (ऋग्वेद) makes the earliest reference to the name. In 7th Mandala hymns 18, 33 and 83.4-8 of The Rigveda tell the story of Dasharajnya, the Battle of Ten Kings. These hymns enumerate the victory of King Sudas who defeat the entire confederacy of ten kings. Sudas was the descendant of Emperor Bharata who was a descendant of the Puru dynasty.  Again, in the Srimad Bhagabad Gita the word Bharat occurs several times. Both the Kurus and the Pandavas are descendants of Emperor Bharata.

The implication is that Bharat is founded upon the Vedic tradition. The distinct features are: Bharat is a civilization, Bharat is sanātan dharma, Bharat is spiritual knowledge, and Bharat is culture. For a Bharatiya, these are the roots which define our identity.

Political Activism

Our political activism should nourish our roots. It is high time that we align our political activism which nurtures our roots, civilizational values, dharmic tradition, quest for knowledge and cultural ethos. We cannot continue founding our political activism on western ideological orientations — left, right, centre, centre-left, centre-right, etc. We need to develop our own ideological orientation in the political spectrum which are in alignment with our Sanatan Dharma and Sanatan Sanskriti. Our political activism should be inextricably Bharatiya whereby we give emphasis on the Bharatiya perspective on political orientation.

A Bharatiya political activism is not Left, Right or Centre. It means our Bharatiya political activism is inseparable from our Bharatiya roots and attached to our identity.

The strengthening of our political orientation needs adoption of definitive steps. The first major step is academic reformation with emphasis on Vedic curriculum. Under this curriculum, the students will be taught Vedic science, Vedic mathematics, Vedic scriptures as well as Vedic way of life. To actualize this curricular modification, every Bharatiya should gain proficiency in Sanskrit language skills — speaking, writing, reading and listening skills. We should search for the four distinct goals of human life (Puruṣārtha: पुरुषार्थ) — dharma (righteousness, moral values), artha (prosperity, economic values), kama (pleasure, love, psychological values) and moksha (liberation, spiritual values) — following the Vedic insights.

The second important step is the promotion of Ayurveda, the knowledge of life and yoga, the knowledge of uniting individual consciousness with universal consciousness, humans with nature and body with mind. This medical practice, which originated in ancient Bharat, knows that plants and minerals can be used as medicines for curing illnesses which have psychosomatic origin. This knowledge system which is inextricably Sanatan provides a balanced dietary guidelines, home remedies, and exercise patterns.

The third is attention to unify our temples. The government control of temples exercises immense restrictions. Not only we should demand for freeing the temples from government control, we should also work for the unification of the temples with a uniform administrative machinery. The day all our temples will come under one umbrella, that day will mark the beginning of a new chapter in Bharatiya history. In contemporary Bharat, temples are the bedrock of culture. At the time when traditional Hindu practices are repeatedly facing court trials, it is imperative to unify the temples for the assertion of Sanatan Dharma and Sanatan Sanskriti. Shockingly, when Sabarimala issue developed the rest of the country was silent as if it was an issue which only bothers Malayalis. Rather, issues such as Sabarimala should involve national participation in protecting the uniqueness of the temple tradition. Similarly, other issues associated with Sanatan Dharma and Sanatan Sanskriti require national participation.

Conclusion

Bharat is experiencing a political change, but a new political phase is yet to begin. A political orientation which is not Left, Right or Centre, but a constructive force that evokes a deep sense of Bharat. Let me reiterate. Bharat is founded upon the Vedic tradition. Bharat is a civilization, Bharat is sanātan dharma, Bharat is spiritual knowledge, and Bharat is culture. To uphold Bharat, our political orientation should be Bharatiya.

Pakistan nuclear weapons amidst domestic turmoil Imran Niazi- Qamar Bajwa worried

0

Pakistan has a chequered history of non democratic polity gravely influenced by military. Immediately after independence, even when the Queen of England was still the premier of the country, Pakistan decided to take on the path of dictatorship/martial law. Over a period of time, the military kept influencing/ousting the civilian elected govt on the pretext of inefficiency, personal ambitions or Islamisation. During this sojourn, Pakistan with the connivance of China was able to clandestinely acquire/build nuclear arsenal. Nuclear weapons, being the harbingers of wiping out the humanity from the surface of Earth, have to be protected from all inimical forces specially the ever flourishing JEHADIs institutions in Pakistan.

Today, it appears that Pakistan is on the verge of a civil war with Nawaz Sharief leading the PDM alliance against Imran Govt supported by Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and ISI chief Lt Gen Faiz Hameed of Pakistan ARMY. The multi centric turmoil in Pakistan raises serious questions about safety, security and operational control of Pakistani nuclear weapons. The shades of paramouncy in this maze of likely civil war varies from the combined opposition led by Nawaz Sharief against collusion of ‘Imran and Army’ on one side, to power struggle within the Army between ‘Bajwa supporters and Lt Gen Sarfraz Sattar and  his supporters aided by the then CJI Asif Saeed Khosa’ to the individual insurgent groups in Blauchistan, Sindh, Gilgit Baltitan and Khyber Pakhtunwa. In case of conflagration of present turbulence, it is the obscurity that threatens the humanity as regards the eventual control of Pak Nucs which could be captured by irresponsible stakeholders or the rogue JEHADI institutions.

Present disarming of Sindh Police, abduction of IGP Karachi, mass leave by Sindh Police personnel, with  Pakistan Rangers (Army) taking over of administration shows the brutal crushing of Sindis in Pakistan. This happened after Nawaz led opposition opened the outright front against Imran-Bajwa coalition. Nawaz Shrief, being in exile in London, has launched an unscathed attack against Army by openly naming the specific generals including Bajwa and his supporters. Nawaz Shrief , in doing so, has been very careful not to commit political suicide. He has fully exploited the internal turmoil created in Pakistan by very high rates of inflation, the subversion and suffering of population by Chinese, perfidious use of Pakistani resources by China(CPEC) and Imran’s return of favour to Bajwa by granting him extension as Army chief. The movement has gained alarming proportions and imminent civil war like situation is being crushed by military.

The passions amongst the masses are being fuelled with anti China sentiment on account of promises of employment, extremely high cost of electricity, wide range of corruption with heavy losses to state and usage of Pakistan territory by China for its own economic, strategic and defence purposes. Besides the surrender of Pakistani territory  to China by Imran Khan from Khyber Pass to Gwader port, Imran has decided to cede two islands outside Karachi port to China for military purposes. This would translate in loss of livelihood for more than 100000 native fishermen.

The financial position of Pakistan needs less to be said. It had to borrow One Bn $ from their coloniser China to pay part debt to Saudi Arabia. The FATF has not upgraded Pakistan’s standing from the GREY list. This means Pakistan will continue to reel under abject poverty and will not get bail out package to rescue its citizens from impoverishment. Meanwhile, the default on Chinese loans has halted the funds to stall the CPEC projects. All this combined shows a way for Pakistan to surrender its souverenity in Balauchistan the way it happened in Humbantota port in Sri Lanka.

The utter chaotic conditions prevalent in Pakistan point towards tumultuous pandemonium which has created lawlessness. It will raise a serious question on capture and subsequent control of Nuclear weapons. Pakistan, as it is rife with irresponsible statements on use of nuclear weapons whether they are politicians (Imran/Rashid), Jehadi terrorists or even section of Press in Pakistan. Prior to this turmoil, what was said about the Pakistani Nuclear weapons was “WE MANUFECTURED NUCLEAR BOMBS BECAUSE WE COULD NOT HAVE PEACEFUL SLEEP DUE TO SECURITY REASONS and NOW WE CAN NOT SLEEP BECAUSE OF SCARE OF LOSING CONTROL OF NUCLEAR WEAPONS”.

Now with present pandemonium and unclear understanding as to ‘who will wield power and in what measure’, the Pakistani Nuclear weapons can well be tamed by the Jehadi forces , that can spell potential doom for the entire world. Only 100 nuclear bombs are enough to engulf the whole world in thick smog which will deplete the entire Ozone layer surrounding the Earth. Ozone layer protects the Earth against UV radiations from the Sun which will literally burn every possible animate and non animate thing on the surface of earth.

Indian foreign policy- A shift towards American block?

0

Third edition of 2+2 dialogue between India and United States took place in New Delhi on 27 Oct 2020. During the meet various security and economic issues were reviewed from prevailing security situation in Eastern Ladakh to Indo Pacific, economic terrorism vigorously being pursued by China, imperialistic hegemonistic overture being persisted by China world over with its ambitious flagship ‘BRI/OBOR’. Many other issues concerning intimate co-operation between India and United States in the field of Satellite intelligence, geo spatial data exchange, nuclear scenario, defence technology transfer and logistic sharing arrangement etc were also part of the discussion.

Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA) was signed between the two largest democracies of the world during the meeting. This, in conjunction with earlier Communication Compatibility and Security Agreement (COMMCSA), Defence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI) and Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA), provides for a very strong alliance between India and United States  as regards the military security in South Asia and Indo Pacific. This is to ensure the territorial integrity of the incumbent nations in South Asia and democratic use of sea lines of communications on the high seas in Indo-Pacific for the entire world.

The above meet and increasing proximity between the two nations (wherein the Mike Pompeo and Mark Esper, the two principal secretaries had to physically fly in, despite the presidential elections United States less than seven days away and stringent virtual measures dictated by the COVID crisis) demonstrated heightened sensitivity towards the Chinese belligerence. It is also a manifestation of the foreign policy trends in vogue across the world to tame the imperialism unleashed by China by way of economic debt traps. This issue has also raised the hackles amongst the opposition ranks regarding possible shift being demonstrated by Modi Govt from old cliques of Non Alignment to alignment with United States. Now the question is “Is that so?” Though every opposition in a democratic setup has the inherent right to question the Govt yet can opposition justify the rant especially when the Indian Armed Forces are facing China eye ball to eye ball. Is it a direct insinuation to lower the morale of armed forces who are defending the territorial integrity of the nation  while being  ready to sacrifice their lives. Can opposition justify the rant and the timings of this attack.

The diplomatic activity today, has undergone a world of change and it has evolved as a doctrine of ‘No Permanent Enemies and No Permanent Friends’. Only thing matters is ‘Nations Self Interests’. Post WWII, the world was bipolar entity, wherein we had two superpowers and the entire world was firmly in grip of two super powers. Few nations practised Non Alignment under the banner led by India. Nevertheless, India did go in for alliances with United States or USSR as per the requirement of the time. Post disintegration of USSR, world saw the only one super power. This remained till the advent of China on the world stage as potential superpower wherein it started threatening the gullible nations and went in for its BRI/OBOR project to tame the comity of nations economically and militarily. During this period, the trend was to have bilateral to multilateral alliances as per specific needs of the respective nations. In the process, the reality of today is that a nation has to go in for multiple alliances with different countries with specific self interest. In the bargain the foreign policy experts have to do a tight rope walking diplomatically, as the scenario lends to a nation being in alliance with another nation/nations on a specific issue and yet be against the same nation/nations on another global issue.

In this regards India has done extremely well by ensuring to secure the friendly ties with the ‘All Weather Friend’ Russia retaining its military defence cooperation. This has been carefully worked out while being in emerging strategic alliance with United States and other NATO countries. India has also been able to win back some of the SAARC countries by way of BIMSTEC when they still have military alliances with China. Similarly, there is security alliance afoot with ASEAN countries despite China being a member of ASEAN. The geopolitical situation also dictates that India accepts the observer status in SCO and refuses alliance in Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). All this has happened in the background of military standoff with China on LAC.

India still has not declared China as the enemy overtly in diplomatic circles, as is evident from the statements of RM Raj Nath Singh and EAM S Jaishanker during 2+2 Dialogue at New Delhi. The traditional think tanks in India clamouring for subjugation against China have been rooted out and progressive intelligentsia is busy overtime to carry out ‘SWOT’ analysis, ‘DIME’ analysis and to suggest political, diplomatic, economic, cyber space and military recommendations to Govt of India for containing China on LAC and protecting India’s ‘Sea Lines of Communications’ and other maritime interests in Indian Ocean and South China Sea. Notwithstanding the fact that any contemporary nation state has to work out its diplomatic common denominator carefully in this labyrinth of complex strategic nuances based on ‘self interests’. It appears India is doing its homework fairly well.

Can knife attack?

0

According to the youth icon of India: “Yesterday morning! when I wake up at night”, not able to understand what do, whether to sleep in cozy mornings or get disturb by “5 times alarm”, re-iterating the 1984 (book by ORWELL) and thinking Big Brother in today’s context fitting perfectly “winnie the POOH’s” zealous face, suddenly two notifications popped on my MI screen stating “Three french citizens, ‘may be worshiper’ at church were beheaded”.

Three people have died in a knife attack at a church in Nice, in what French President Emmanuel Macron said was an “Islamist terrorist attack”.

In Nice, one elderly victim was “virtually beheaded”, officials said. Another woman and a man also died. A male suspect was shot and detained. Anti-terror prosecutors have opened an investigation into the attack and France has raised its national security alert to its highest level. French anti-terrorist prosecutor Jean-François Ricard later said the attacker was seriously wounded by police. Mr. Ricard said the suspect was a 21-year-old Tunisian national who had arrived in France earlier this month. He had a document issued by the Italian Red Cross.

Police sources earlier named the attacker as Brahim Aioussaoi. They said he had travelled by boat from Tunisia to the Italian island of Lampedusa in September. He was placed in coronavirus quarantine there before being released and told to leave Italy.Nice Mayor Christian Estrosi spoke of “Islamo-fascism” and said the suspect had “repeated endlessly ‘Allahu Akbar’ (God is greatest)”.

‘Allahu Akbar'(God is Great)! I know, we all know. But this isn’t the true worship as it clearly seems. There are seemingly endless ways to reach infinity. But the blood of “terror caliphates”, doesn’t peep to understand. There have been many clashes for religion, land, rights. But the recent ones are captivating my hand to type, sure about many more hands as well as mouth. But if this isn’t blocked, it will be a ‘norm’ soon. And to those who are born right after this editorial, if strong disembrace doesn’t follow then they might think ‘it’s unworthy after such incidents’.

Until then I thought that extreme Radicalization was only the intelligence concept for their further oil embargo. But suddenly this notification shook me when next day a whole stratosphere was boycotting PEACE rather than FRANCE. Their clear intention was to relieve the monstrous souls who had beheaded just because some cartoons were clashing their believes. Seriously! what if tomorrow your believes grew to bombard nuclear on nation whose idea doesn’t match yours.
