After scanning MSP system through the economics lens, it seems to be a bane to the farming sector and altogether to the whole economy. It's promulgated on the basis of socialist ideas and we all know nothing good can happen to the economy by socialism.
By demanding more MSP and trying to finish the private sector by asking for mandatory MSP, can the farmers decide that India should stop investments in infrastructure, education, schools, defence, manufacturing and route all their funds only to farmers?
The current model of wheat and rice cultivation, supported by subsidised electricity and fertilisers as well as the guaranteed procurement by the government at MSP, is not only causing environmental decay but also promoting lazy farming.
We feel elated when we hear that Govt will double the income of farmers or when they claim that a new act passed will change lives of farmers. But the real picture remains very different. It is very difficult for us to gauge the facts on ground unless we experience it first hand.
The farmers bills may have been moved after years of frustration with uneven and partial state reforms. But the credibility of agriculture market reforms will not come by bypassing states.
It’s time to celebrate and not protest, as the exploitation masters have been tossed up by these reforms and at the same time empowered and enhanced value of our lovely farmers socially and economically.
