Diminishing importance of Ayurveda

Thanks to our modern studies that makes us lesser humane, most of the businessmen of India has got contaminated by the modern 'culture of capitalism'. Their vulgar expenditure on buying modern luxuries and vulgar lifestyles are blatant evidences of this 'culture'. No wonder, we have developed a hate towards all those who are into business these days.

Suffering from political suppression, burning of books, destruction of colleges, and slaughter of its practitioners, Ayurveda still survives a miracle and testament to the effectiveness of its medication in disease prevention and control.

India, in terms of medical heritage, has been blessed with glorious achievements not only in medicine and surgery but also in development of codes on medical ethics since ages.

Even after creation of a separate ministry for AYUSH in 2014, the system remains clueless and direction less and is struggling for survival.

FSSAI granting licence to several herbal ingredients such as Thippili powder, Kasturi manjal and Mudakathan as food supplements being objected by some Siddha experts, seems quite bizarre.

Integrated health care approach should not be confused with permission to AYUSH vaid to prescribe certain allopathic drugs.

Government of India, especially the Ministry of AYUSH must clearly define and differentiate AYUSH from proven science by limiting and describing AYUSH as ancient traditional wisdom and not proven science.

The paramedical tag if is given to AYUSH and its role is defined well, not only we can eliminate cross pathy and medication health fraud but also we can re-invent the significance and relevance of AYUSH to our society.

Like how Ayurveda is linked with our Vedas and Sanskrit language, Siddha is linked with Tamil culture and tradition and hence the teaching of Siddha at BSMS level must be in Tamil and only then the true scholarliness of Siddha system would remain relevant and glorious.

AYUSH belongs to our tradition, culture and civilization. AYUSH came as an extension of our sacred divine practices to offer health and wellness to people.
