Nirbhaya! No I’m scared

0

Nirbhaya, a bone chilling tragedy which shook the nation in the freezing winters of December of 2012. Nirbhaya: The fearless. We glorify that martyr with this title, but did she really need to fight this henious war for her existence, for the preservation of her dignity? She should have been leading a life of honour. She should have been striving for the betterment of her career. She deserved to love and be loved in return. She deserved to be happy and content. But we having completed our obligatory candle light vigils, have reduced her tragedy to ashes and relegated her story to archives.

Countless Nirbhayas later, we are still where she left us. We’ve let many more Nirbhayas fall prey to the countless monsters lurking in the shadows out there. Just the faces of these Nirbhayas change each time, from the innocent guileless children whose smiles vanish off their faces and their souls get scarred for life as they fall victims to the lust of these monsters, to the toothless ladies awaiting end to the evenings of their lives. From children who leave for school to seek knowledge, but never return back, to women who go out to seek a living for the family, but don’t themselves end up to live, these monsters don’t discriminate, they just seek to satisfy their greed and their thirst.

Numbers scream

India recorded an astounding 34600 rape cases in 2016 with Madhya Pradesh taking pride in the highest number of cases at 4391 and Delhi remaining the undisputed Rape capital of the nation with over 2000 cases. So what do these numbers tell us? They actually mock at us in our faces, shriek with pain and yelp for help. And what do we and our esteemed elected members do apart from the customary lip service and obligatory candle vigils. We wait for another Nirbhaya to happen.

The Blame Game

Who is to blame for these tragedies perpetrated upon the hapless victims? We have an escapist way out for this, we invariably end up blaming the sufferer because that’s the easiest thing to do. We blame the attire of the victim, their behaviour and the society that they move around in. The perpetrators escape on basis of the only virtue that they possess, their gender, because men will be men and since time immemorial we have taken it upon us to defend men, for they can do no wrong. An Indian man who’s outgoing, who’s prepared to bend a few rules here and there, is considered a smart player, ends up having a promising career and a good life, while a woman with qualities similar to the above earns for herself the label of a promiscuous b**ch. For a man to drink at social gatherings is a status symbol, an opportunity to advance his career or just an occasion to chill out. A woman doing the same at unprescribed hours is considered to be one on moral decline, someone who needs to be taken advantage of. We need our women to be dressed from head to toe because a glimpse of their flesh invites the demons in our men. But time and again it has been proved beyond reasonable doubt that a ‘Sari’ falls prey to this misfortune as much as a ‘Jeans’ does. But in glorifying our ‘Sanskriti’, placing the blame on the  deviant women, we half heatedly glorify and applause the molesters in their way of teaching her and the likes of her a lesson.

Upbringing

Are we going wrong with our upbringing . Are we bringing up the wrong kind of Indians. Are we breeding a creed of brutes, a confused generation who are outwardly progressive, but their souls reek of regressive filth. Don’t we need to get this clear in the minds of our boys that ‘WHEN A WOMAN SAYS NO SHE MEANS A NO’. We need to cultivate in them a habit of taking a ‘No’ for an answer. We need to teach them to respect a woman, to understand the pain behind her tears, to learn to accept her decisions, to care for her aspirations, to cultivate tenderness and compassion  in their souls as against what we’ve told them for generations that ‘Mard ko Dard Nahi Hota’. We need them to know that it pains and it hurts equally bad. We need to be friends with our kids and yet deal them with a firm hand. Most importantly we need them to know that ‘Women Are Not A Commodity’ to be used as and when it suits them, to derive pleasure out of their sufferings and to destroy and multilate once the fun ends.

An abuser is sick in his mind. Its a sickness to possess, an obsession to force their lust upon someone unwilling for their advances and a perversion to distort and to mutilate the very object of their passion. The signs of this sickness can  first be determined by vigilant parents and teachers. A healthy family can go a long way to breed a good human being.

Awareness

We also need to educate our children to differentiate between an affectionate and tender touch and that one which does not feel right. We need them to open up to us when they don’t like a particular uncle or a cousin or even a teacher. We need to put our faith in their acumen because more often than not the abusers are someone known to the victim or someone trusted by his/her family. We need to be vigilant and need to look out for our children till the time they learn to stand for themselves.

Support

The unfortunate victims in turn, don’t need our pity, our contempt or even our sympathy. They just need us to stand by their sides as they fight their own ways back. They need our unconditional love and support. Our soothing touch to tell them that it was just an accident and that they’ll emerge OK out of it. They don’t need to be subjected to the very humiliating medical examinations after the incidence, the disgusting cross examination where they need to elaborate on all the gory details of their mishap. The lewd insinuations of the lawyer who fights tooth and nail to prove the ‘Character’ of the victim. Most importantly they need us to look at them as ‘Humans Beings, rather unfortunate Humans Beings’ as against to ‘Victims’.

Realistic Expectations

From our elected representatives we need them to stop looking at this misfortune as a photo opportunity, as their shot to screen space and repetition of the same rhetoric of ‘Nishedh and Ninda’ .We need them to call of stringent action and strengthening of the existing laws, to ensure us that no Juvenile violating a Nirbhaya hides behind his age, to push for capital punishment and castration in offenders. We need them to set such an example that the brutes need to think before committing an offense, before violating someone’s pride and to ensure us that we have an equal stake to opportunities as proud citizens of this great land.

From helplines that don’t work, to helpdesks that are just paper horses, to CCTV’s that mostly don’t function, our Netas are doing precious little for us.

Its high time that they guarantee our safety, protect our honour and make us believe that we are safe and cared for. How long are we expected to survive this lingering fear of molestors lurking around like predators around our loved ones. Are we waiting for more Nirbhayas to happen, as we helplessly look on? Or are we expected to take law into our own hands to ensure our safety or to seek vengeance if such misfortune befalls us?

Sagarika Ghose: Covered in her own filth

0

Sagarika Ghose vomited in Times of India in her latest Oped.

Again.

By now, she is covered in her own filth. The stench, the nausea, the dribbling from the corner of her mouth has turned the toilet bowl into an acidic junk. The chunks of acidic creamy food, splattering out of her mouth has sprayed the carpet.

She is still reaching her fingers down her throat for a fresh round of throwing up. It’s a perverse joy and she is beyond help. She hopes it would breed enough viruses and insects which could infect the neighbourhood.

Anyone can see her bouts of gastritis, bulimia, ulcer etc. They are all byproducts of lies and hallucinations. Her puke is that the BJP in centre represents Hindutva terror, or tacitly approves it. It has let loose its goons. If Gauri Lankesh has been murdered; if homosexuality is not allowed; nor miniskirts; if (symbolic) guns are put on Kanhaiyas; or female reporters beaten up by lawyers — it’s violent Hindu nationalists.

Proof? You must be kidding.

In her delirium, she implicitly claims that Islamists and Maoist terrorists are better than Saffron terror for the latter never owns up its alleged crime. So Bajrang Dal, VHP, Bajrang Dal are worse than SIMI or Talibans. Who are Hindu rationalists to tell the pathetic woman that Bajrang Dal meets in the open; it has no sleeper cells. It doesn’t plan serial bombings. There has never been a single case of arms recovery from any of the Bajrang Dal cadre of offices. Does VHP ask its cadres to become suicide bombers? Bump off girls who want to attend school? Has Bajrang Dal or VHP ever advocated second grade citizenry for minorities?

So, how can we sanitize the environment of her grungy presence?

Ignore her.

Its’ a desperate flailing from a sinking horror. Her best hope is Hindu rationalists and brainwashed pseud-sickulars would respond and regurgitate. Enough repetition, and words like beef, vande mataram, Gauri Lankesh would stick on the Hindutva shirts. To pass the verdict before the laws of the land dumps it in garbage.

It’s a typical ploy of the Left, pseudo-sikulars, NGOs and imperialist forces. Have propaganda and create enough surround sound. Don’t allow the narrative to go beyond that matrix. It’s unimportant who wins or loses the argument. What they are aiming at is create association of individuals and issues towards a particular agenda; a mental image.

Unceasing tirade is their weapon. The next layer builds upon the previous layer. Bury the truth below a yet again fresh layer. That’s how lies survive. Propaganda works. And vomiting becomes somehow desirable.

Humanity has always fallen for such ruse. Communities break up. Faultlines flare up. Violence happens. It just provides these vomit-ers with a fresh layer. Reason for them to dig fingers down their throats again.

We don’t have to fall for it.

We could be clever.

Dig up enough dirt on them.

Keep it in circulation.

Let the boot be on the other foot.

The issue of Rohingyas Muslims and if India should accept more refugees

0

Of late, we have seen disturbing scenes of helpless Rohingyas, an ethnic Muslim minority community in Myanmar, fleeing the country and taking refuge in neighbouring Bangladesh. All this started when ARSA (Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army), a Rohingya militant outfit, attacked police posts killing many, and which further invited swift military crackdown on the outfit.

This not the first time that the community is persecuted and forced to flee. In fact, this has been happening since long and the only thing new about this is the sheer number of refugees and the wide media attention.

It is well known that Myanmar does not recognise Rohingyas as its citizens (the authorities classify them as illegal Bengalis from Bangladesh) and they are even deprived of basic public services. But since Myanmar did not occupy a high place in world geopolitics, the issue did not receive much attention. It is ironical that when European countries were facing serious refugee crisis in 2016, the media showed extreme concern about the situation, but the issue of Rohingyas, who have been suffering since long, got much attention only now.

India has been criticised for not taking a clear stand on the issue. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Myanmar and his strong support to the Government of Myanmar for taking on the “terrorists” who killed security personnel is an indication of which side the Indian government is. Moreover, the central government has also asked state governments to prepare a list of all the illegal immigrants (Rohingyas included) so that they can be deported.

Govt has made it clear that it is not in a position to accept any more refugees given the constraints on the already limited resources of the country. However, human rights organisations continue to ask the government to do its bit to ameliorate the condition of the refugees.

Politically, the issue can be exploited by campaigning in their favour to rehabilitate them on humanitarian grounds, thereby creating a dedicated votebank, but this will have its own consequences as is evident from how the refugees from Bangladesh (1971 Indo-Pak War) vote for a particular political party. It also created a national security issue besides eating the country’s resources. So when we already have a precedent, then one must use one’s wisdom to arrive at any decision. Temporary emotions can temporarily satisfy us, but can have a long-lasting (read permanent) impact.

Questions must also be asked to the Myanmar Government about how they want to find a solution to this problem. They continue to deny citizenship to Rohingyas and ask them to go to Bangladesh. The latter, inturn, says that Myanmar must shed its hardline stand and accept them as its citizens. United Nations has also been pressurising the government to genuinely address the concerns of the community. So, the question is, if the Government of the country where Rohingyas belong to is not doing enough to improve their condition, then what can India do.?

The least India can do is to provide necessary aid in the form of medicines, clothes, food, water, via the UN. That will be much appreciated.

Feminism: A concept of the weak

0

Beginning with an apology in case, you will judge this article by its title and spread hate. Life isn’t easy being a woman, you struggle, at home, at work, on the streets and where not! Aren’t we tired of hearing this from so called concerned women aka feminists? Now let’s look at the harsh reality.

Feminism: a movement supporting equal rights for women (Oxford Dictionary says so, might be true right!). More like a movement to bash the mindset of men, opinion of men and men themselves. Equality is a word that existed long before feminism and that’s what we hopefully strive for in every field. Equality for men and women! But feminism?

If the term in itself wasn’t biased enough, the medium of presenting it is way worse! Random rants, biased criticism, illogical debates, unworthy quarrels are all that we have got so far out of feminism.

A celebrity replies to an interviewer: “Would you ask the same question to a man?”, the click-bait media goes: “We’ve got our new bad-ass feminist!”.

The real question is, how far is THIS “feminism” helping bring about equality? Recently happened to watch a random video on Facebook by a 18 year old or something that went like: “I am born a woman, men think that b***s are meant to be sucked, v*****s are meant to be f****d….”

dayumm! OK LADY! Take a chill pill, keep the hate and blame-game aside and please tell the world how your vulgar little poem is helping women in remote or even posh areas from rapes, threats or discrimination? If you think that people; after watching your cute little video go like: “Oh damn, I was wrong all these years, women are meant to be treated with dignity. Let’s respect every woman from today”, then you’re grave wrong. Like isn’t that obvious.

You don’t need to be screaming about the current situation of the world because I suppose all of us can see and hear it. What we are in need, is of women, who don’t wait and scream for help and bark about rights; we are in need of women who can go out and prove that they’re no less than a man. Yes there is a need to prove this, because the world still thinks that women are weak and as of now, they’re right!

If you’re an “equality” upholder, you should focus on how to educate women on the importance of self defense rather than focusing on barking about how the world isn’t safe for women and how the government and men are not doing anything to change it. There! Right there ends your sense of independence. You want the help of men and government to protect yourself?

Let’s get facts straight! If rapes were to end by your videos, murders, robbery, forgery, smuggling etc etc etc would all come to an end because everyone are aware of the law. We came across the “Blue Whale Game” that claimed many lives, media warned not to play it, today millions just for the sake of it open and install the game. Isn’t that stupid? Well it is! But is that gonna stop them? No! Hence if it all were to stop just by awareness, no psychopaths, no kidnappers, no serial killers, no dons, no terrorists would ever exist! Hence, its time, high high time to stop whining about the situation and start acting before its too late.

In India recently there was a huge havoc when the then CBFC Chairman Pahlaj censored every bit of vulgar scene in a movie. We had a bold movie that explores a woman’s sexuality. Alright cool, this should be an eye opener for the public. Nothing should be hidden! But what do more than half of the audience go to the theater for when such a movie releases?

For enlightenment on women or to gather biological knowledge? NO! “Arrey mast picture hain. Trailer dekha, blue film jaise hi hai, bas beech main thoda gyaan dene ki koshish karenge, wo ignore karte hain aur kya?!” This is an average “bold” moviegoer for you. Whatever be the intention when you make the movie, make profit out of the scenes or to revolutionize Indian Cinema; the concept remains where it was! Objectified women trying to make her point but misses it by an inch of her skirt.

If you really want equality, first step lies in learning to stand up for yourself. Let me tell you the mentality of an average 18 year old. When I joined karate classes it was out of the love for being a bad-ass who can kick some ass. I thought my classmates would be excited. Self-defense classes have given me confidence, concentration and strength to act and think quickly. Sounded like a naaptol advertisement. But that is the truth, martial arts hones you both physically as well as mentally.

Let’s get back to the story. Out of friendship I suggested a few of my 18 year old counterparts to join me and the replies I got were: “Who wants to be a “manchester” like you?”,”Yikes those muscles”,”That kinda body will never get you a boyfriend”,”I have my boyfriend to save me” etc. I wasn’t shocked because that is exactly what I expected from them.

Dear society, that’s the reality for you. Ignorant little barbies who live to impress hot guys or beat other ignorant little barbies at fashion and to look their best because” f*** safety, I wanna look cool!”.

If I’ve ever seen a girl going to the gym, its basically to lose weight so that she can go to the upcoming wedding in the pretty little 3 year old lehenga.

As I wrote earlier, your videos and awareness programs wont change the mindset of the society, hence its time to change ourselves and adapt; to become fearless women who dare to step out after 8:00 at night. Equality and Independence is what we roar about, its time to do all that we wanna do without waiting for a permission; without thinking about what will he/she think, without giving a shit about log kya kahengey.

So, you wanna wear that short super sexy dress you bought for a handsome amount? Know that, there’ll be a bunch of perverts staring at you, waiting for a chance, know that there will probably be no one to help you, but don’t live in the fear of being molested or in the hope of a Mr Charming who will save your day, live in confidence that you can & you will!

GST done, what next for Modinomics – Direct tax?

0

Post the traumatic experience of standing in queues for months to withdraw own money and tasting mixed fruits of increased/decreased prices due to GST, India (especially Middle class) is looking forward towards the next reforms from NaMo and Arun Jaitley.

Currently we are witnessing the weakest growth in last 3 years. This is due to destocking prior to GST, after effects of Demonetization, currency appreciation and so on. The biggest reason which we ignore is weak demand and low utilization (~70%) of existing plants. Since the demand is weak existing factories are enough and hence no corporate is putting new factories. Due to this employment generation is also low.

To improve the demand we have two ways: either reduce the price by reducing tax or increase the spending power of the ordinary citizens. Since government has just implemented GST chances of merging 12% & 18% is dim in the next few months. So that left only 1 option of increasing spending power of citizens.

Easiest way of increasing the spending power can be directly making it available in the hands of the people by reducing the DIRECT tax.

My proposals for Finance Minister with the rational and expected benefits/loss is:

1. Effective 0 % IT rate for Gross Income of less than 5 lakh.
2. Creating a tax slab of 10% for 5-7 lakh.
3. Introducing a new tax free bond of 50000 for infrastructure.
4. Removing few exemptions like Medical bill, Travel allowance or Telephone allowance.

Rationale for these proposals:

1. Effective 0 % IT rate for Gross Income of less than 5 lakh: Since this is gross Income which means people can’t claim 1.5 lakh as 80 C deductions but will pay 0 taxes. Currently an average family need atleast 35000 per month to survive in a city and whatever excess income left is saved. Let people decide how much they want to save rather than forcing them. Surviving today is bigger priority than saving for future.

2. Creating a tax slab of 10% for 5-7 lakh targeting the middle class: A big jump from 5% to 20% is making people state lower income. This is Aspirational class who wants to spend to upgrade their lifestyles. Lowering the tax here means jump in spending in various other sectors (Automobiles, Tourism, Mobile & Accessories, etc).

3. Introducing a new tax free bond of 50K (max) for infrastructure: Government needs money for improving railways and roads so they can re launch the earlier tax free infrastructure bonds with a lower Interest rate (say 6.5%/yr). These bonds will still give return of ~8-9% post tax for Higher Middle class/Higher class i.e income of more than 7.0 lakh

4. Removing few exemptions like Medical bill (15000/yr) & Travel allowance (19200/year): Rational behind this suggestion is that most of the people produce fake bills in case they are not able to spend genuinely. Also this will help reduce unnecessary efforts taken by Corporate and Individuals to claim to the exemptions. Also if a person is sick than he will spend more than 15000 on medical. Similarly if someone has to go to office and he needs to spend more than 1600/month he will spend. Similarly telephone allowance should be removed with unlimited data/calling available at 200/month.

FINANCIAL FEASIBILITY OF THE ABOVE RATIONALES:

This year in budget speech Mr. Jaitley revealed that 37 million Individuals filed IT returns in 2015-16.

Gross Income\Year 2013-14 2014-15 2015-16
0        1,55,501        2,28,627        1,98,216
>0 and <=2,50,000  1,47,75,316  1,44,82,520  1,35,16,945
>2,50,000 and <=  5,00,000      84,14,290  1,15,17,749  1,38,47,402
>5,00,000 and <= 5,50,000        8,67,289      11,94,171      13,78,870
>5,50,000 and <= 10,00,000      31,22,753      41,41,207      51,30,691
>10,00,000 +      15,90,449      20,21,020      24,40,910
 2,89,25,598  3,35,85,294  3,65,13,034

Or in other words Distribution look likes:

Gross Income\Distribution 2013-14 2014-15 2015-16
0 0.5% 0.7% 0.5%
>0 and <=2,50,000 51.1% 43.1% 37.0%
>2,50,000 and <=  5,00,000 29.1% 34.3% 37.9%
>5,00,000 and <= 5,50,000 3.0% 3.6% 3.8%
>5,50,000 and <= 10,00,000 10.8% 12.3% 14.1%
>10,00,000 + 5.5% 6.0% 6.7%
Total 100.0% 100.0% 100.0%

From this distribution we can categorise people in 3 different categories:

  1. Lower Middle class (People with Gross Income of <5 lakh)
  2. Middle class (People with Gross Income of 5-10 lakh)
  3. Higher Middle class & Higher class (People with income of >10lakh+)

Let’s see what the net effect will be of these changes to each group:

In 2015-16, the income tax distribution tells us that almost 37.5% have gross income of less than threshold (2.5 Lakh) and hence pay 0 taxes. Next category (2.5lakh -5 lakh ) we have close to ~1.4 Cr (38%). Remember here we are talking about Gross Salary i.e Income before 80 C deduction of 1.5 Lakh. So effectively this set of people is going to pay tax on max 1.5 lakh (assuming 1lakh average deduction i.e 2.5+1=3.5 lakh tax free). From this 1.5 lakh govt would be getting something like 10800 cr as tax (1.4 Cr people*1.5 Lakh *.05*1.03) at 5% tax rate. Additionally govt. also gives a rebate of 5000 in IT under section 87A if income is less than 5 lakh, which basically means govt would be getting only 5000-7500 cr from these set of 1.4 Cr IT payers. So if we implement the 1st recommendation we are looking at loss of 7500 cr to govt.

Let’s move to second category of Middle class:

In 2015-16, we have close to ~65 lakh as IT payers in Middle class. Current bucket is 20% for Income b/w 5-10 lakh post 80 c investments. So govt approximately would be getting ~8000 cr as 5% tax. I am assuming that here people would be using the full 1.5 lakh exemption limit plus some additional benefits like 80D, 80DD, 80E or 80G. Based on these I am assuming average 50000 as tax which will yield ~33000 cr as Income tax as per current tax slabs of 20%.

If we introduce a new slab of 10% for 5-7 lakh than average tax will be reduced to 35000 which mean a loss of another 10,000 cr to Finance minister.

Increasing 50,000 limit of new Infrastructure bond will nullify the effect of removing Medical bill & Transport allowance (34200).

For Higher Middle class & higher class:

This is the class which actually drives the personal IT collection of India. Also these are the people who drive the consumption in India in luxury space. Currently my estimation is that Govt collects 1.4-1.5 lakh cr from this category of people. If we implement all the recommendations than govt has to forego close to 12,500 Cr due to new 10% IT rate. Removing exemptions will almost negate the new tax free infra bonds introduction.

So if Finance Minister introduces these points the department will lose ~30,000 CR (7,500+10,000+12,500). This forego revenue will surely effect the fiscal consolidation path taken by Modi govt but current need is to create demand in the economy. On a lighter note if Govt sells its holding in ITC they can fund this 30,000 cr.

Best way of communicating & achieving is not to wait till Budget 2018, PM should come back on National TV on 20 September (Just before the Festive season of Navratri starts) and announce new IT rates of next year. This will create the immediate spending spree with Middle & Higher class which can take back our growth to 8% in Q3.

Illogical debate over PM’s Twitter followings and how it is just a propaganda

0

The NDTV’s Truth vs Hype debate where the anchor strongly demands PM to unfollow the users who have abused on the death of a journalist’s death, is completely illogical and lame and clearly seen as a propaganda against him as they are carrying it for many years.

For the sake of the argument we can assume that the profiles they showed have tweeted abusive tweets.

Is it possible that Mr. Prime Minister might have skipped the tweets?

Or

The user has deleted it?

Or

And if the user has deleted that tweet what proof do you have that the pictures you are showing are authentic as they can easily be forged.

So why should he unfollow his followings? On just a TV channel’s debate? What if he does not watch NDTV?

Is it not a feeblest claim or accusation NDTV is asking or are they trying so hard to bring anything against him?

Open letter to blind followers, liberals, journalists – hashtag hate

05/09/17, a shameful day for the country and an even shameful day for us, the residents of Bangalore. Gauri Lankesh murder has raised questions; questions which the government has to answer quickly. The citizens’ of this country deserve to know who the culprits are, to know what Gauri ji was working on to have any enemy, is there a connection between the murderers of Kalburgi ji and Gauri Ji. Meantime, under such circumstances apart from raising the right questions one can only pray that Gauri ji rests in peace.

Having hardly known Gauri Ji, I was eager to know her in detail. With few twitter profiles already creating a narrative about the death; knowing Gauri ji became a matter of curiosity.

Left, right, center – who are you? Can’t there be people who are unbiased? Can’t people show respect or at least not speak over a loss of life; instead of fighting over ideologies? Can we be simple human beings first? Over the years of following Politics; especially, post my graduation days I have realised, it is no brainer to consider that all politicians are honest. Also, I firmly believe that Government/Politicians should tinker their core belief or ideologies occasionally for the welfare of the larger audience.

Not following one particular ideology, it was hurtful nevertheless reading the tweets of people reacting at the murder of Gauri ji. Yes, being a paid employee I believe everyone deserves an opportunity to earn money in a right manner, earn food; but I do not know how that classifies one (left, right centre).

A few months back, I followed the Gurmehar Kaur incident on social media, I do not know why certain section of the MSM and SM feel politics and news takes place only in Delhi. Moreover, I do not know why people from the MSM and SM focus so much on JNU too. With reactions to sudden demise of Gauri Ji and the reaction to Gurmehar incident; the striking resemblance was people seem to have a narrative, diplomatically judgemental, and seem to be left, right or even extreme.

Certain people decide to abuse, certain journalists and learned friends try to avoid questions when asked in a right way, why so much hatred amongst each other. Why hashtag and narrate your own selective story when Gauri ji or Gurmehar were concerned about expressing the truth, about freedom of expression, about spreading peace.

Divisive opinions are welcoming when the same doesn’t lead to abuse or threat; yes, the younger group or a few extreme individuals abuse, act rude; which is awful and should be condemned, such people do not know to put their point across. That doesn’t give our learned friends and journalists to act as supreme judge, as an investigating agency or self-awarded champions of Indian democracy. Moreover, the same learned people have become selective; they chose and pick topics which suit them.

With internet nowadays, everyone has a say, everyone has an opinion, but once people decide to not wish good for an individual or once they decide not to wait, once they decide to act by hate, they further reach a point where they desire to hear no other voice except their own; consequently, talking for convenience.

Sadly, speaking for convenience doesn’t command respect. Journalists, learned people and other blind followers need to quickly realise that viewers/followers observe them closely. Time for them to fight for the right, in a manner which others can learn, in a manner which gives others an idea about what exactly is the truth. Ideologies are important, yes, journalists carry them while they work, but, some of us sense all this.

With a section of viewers who are right-thinking, peace loving; wish for indiscriminate views on topics, people wish for uniform standards, not wish for flashy headlines be it left, right or centre. Narrative based on the ideologies and fewer facts is not new in Indian politics, but don’t expect the same from the today’s journalists.

As the left, right fight; people who have malicious intentions are laughing away. Remember, this is our home, ourselves are here working for the betterment of this country; the cultural values of this country teach us to love and not fight. Also, remember Gurmehar or Gauri ji wished for transparency, fight for the right, peace loving people and truth.

The issue of Societal Pressure on kids on what they want to become

0

All human beings live in a society. It is an integral part of human existence itself. Our opinions, taste, preferences, etc are also formed by continuous interaction with the society where both people and society influence one another. These interactions also lead people to form certain notions about one another.

For example, the society brands those in high positions as “achievers”, “winners”, “go-getters”, while those who are not so lucky, as per the society, are branded as “losers” or “failures” or what not. Suffice is to say that our status in the world is determined by the society in which we live in, whether or not we ourselves are satisfied with our status.

A man may be living in a makeshift home with thatched roof and be ever happy; and a man can be living in a mansion and be lonely and despondent (read depressed). Here, the societal norm will mean worshipping the latter and despising the former, because the latter “achieved” big in life while the former “wasted” his life. Here, the society does not care about what is happening within those four walls. It just wants to remain oblivious and hence, does not bother. In fact, there is no such word as “bother” in society’s dictionary. They only thing they bother about is themselves.

Now imagine a kid growing up in this society and seeing all the permutation and combinations happening in it. The kid will initially find it difficult to relate to it, purely due to innocence, and will even find it difficult to fit in. But since the power of the society is so overwhelming and a kid is just too frail to understand or challenge it, he/she blends in and the saga continues. No change. Status quo. Individuality killed.

Now the pressure on the kid is how to best impress the society to get its “approval”. His/her choice died the day when they surrendered themselves to ‘fit in’ the society. Majority will fall in this category. Those in minority who are able to pursue what they want and do indeed achieve something in their life, are the achievers. Society will only worship them and admire and praise them, but won’t go into the details of what all odds they had fought to conquer the seemingly insurmountable destiny they set for themselves.

Now, the question facing us is how do we create the next big dancers, musicians, athletes, etc in a society where everyone just wants their ward to study and become doctors or engineers. Nothing else is wanted. To think that one day I will go to Mars or establish contact with aliens or be the next Michael Jordan is frowned upon in our society. In this way, we will never create leaders of tomorrow, but simply create followers of today.

There is an urgent need to reverse this trend and allow kids to pursue their dreams without fear or feel of guilt. An enabling environment must be created both at home and school, which further requires change in individual mentality and a host of reforms in other areas. A beginning has to be made to witness a logical end, and certainly the time for it is NOW..!

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wW69IIlv_A4]

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldnBmsp_yks]
