Uncompromising and confused Islam

The question is how the Quran should be read and understood today? Literally or metaphorically? The Muslim community across the world is not sure. So, they swing between the two as per the convenience.

This confusion had partly cropped-up with the spread of Islam outside Arabia. Islam is a religion of Arab and anyone who is a Muslim, but not an Arab, is a convert. Arab, here means Hijaz area of peninsular Arabia. There is a specific Arabic word, Mawli, for the non-Arab converted Muslims.

For non-Arab converted Muslims, Islam was very alien in the beginning. But later Islam could digest those converts completely at mental, physical and social levels. This is the reason why non-Arab Muslims show themselves to be more Muslim than Arab Muslims. They spent their whole life only by emulating tribal Arabs of 7th century.

In about 600 years following the advent of Islam, the religion and its political power expanded from Spain and North-West Africa in the West to China-Mongolia and North India in the East. Converted Muslims of Persian, Byzantian, African, Mongol, Turk, Afghan and South Asian stocks were responsible for that Islamic expansion.

Thus, the non-Arab converted Muslims played a big role in the spread of Islam. Quran, in whatever form and contents then, was instrumental in creating Islamic passion among them to conquer new lands and people, including their own, for the cause of Islam’s Allah. Quran gave specific commandments to all Muslims about the Islamic obligation of converting all non-Muslims of the world to Islam. Thus, literal interpretation of Quran became an essential means of Islamic teachings.

The confusion deepened with the passage of time. As the time went by, humans made progresses and achievements in all spheres of life, social to scientific. So, today camels cannot be the only mode of transportation for Muslims like 7th century Arabia. But Muslims from anywhere of the world have a soft corner for the camels. In South Asian Muslims, their attachment with Arab is seen in their love and liking for dates fruit. The tension, between progress and attachment with tribal lifestyle of 7th century Arabia, is immense among today’s non-Arab converted Muslims.

The root cause of this confusion arose from the claim of Muslims about the unchangeability of the Quran and its commandments. A case in hand is Quran 33:59. The verse revealed “O Prophet! Tell thy wives and daughters, and the believing women, that they should cast their outer garments (Jilbab) over their persons (when abroad): that is most convenient, that they should be known and not molested. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”

In Arabic, Jilbab is a big piece of cloth making outer garment that can cover head to toes of women. So literally speaking, all Muslim women must cover them with Jilbab or Burqa (sewed Jilbab) when they go out of home. But metaphorically speaking, the said verse asks women to put on modest dress.

Today one comes across Muslim women, some of whom use Burqa and fully cover body, head and face (except a slit for the eyes); some cover their head with a piece of cloth (Hijab); but rest of them are not so obsessed and keep their head and face uncovered in public. Nowhere in Quran, Allah says that Jilbab is optional. Thus, in the present Hijab (head-cover) controversy in India, whosoever says that Hijab is optional in Islam is telling lie. Iranian women today are very clear in mind. They want to disown Hijab and go against the Quran.

Coming back to India, Dr B R Ambedkar in his famous 1945 book “Pakistan or the partition of India” had reiterated the Islamic contempt for non-Muslim, when he said that to the Muslims of India, a Hindu is a Kafir and therefore, undeserving of respect and equal treatment. Dr Ambedkar also pointed out that the Brotherhood in Islam was not universal. It was restricted among Muslims only. In recent past, Indian Islamists and Leftists are fighting legal battle against Karnataka government for not allowing Hijab for Muslim girl students in government schools.

Meanwhile Saudi Arabia, the cradle of Islam and where the two most important and holy cities (Mecca and Medina) of Muslim world are located, has incorporated Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharat in its school curricula to infuse multiculturalism. This is unthinkable in Indian Madrasa. Saudi Arabia has also banned use of Hijab by female students in examination hall. The reformation steps taken by the Saudi Arabia, as mentioned above, have confused Indian Muslims totally. They don’t know what to do.

Looking from another side, Quran reveals dozens of verses which are intolerant, exclusive, and violent towards the non-Muslims. Quran verse 9:5 is possibly the most referred to as an example. Islamic apologist resort to merry-go-round arguments to defend those verses literally. They fail to see that what was literally true in 7th century Arabia, cannot be true in today’s multi-cultural world community. The only compromise today can be achieved by accepting those verses metaphorically.

In Arabic language, Awrah (Awrat in South Asia) means vagina and Nikah means sexual intercourse. Both have reduced the sanctity of the two words woman and marriage to lowest ebb. In 7th century Arabia use of such words could be natural in the society. But today, if one wants to carry-on with the same literal meanings, then those words become nauseating and uncouth in human society of 21st century. Barring ignorance about the meaning of these two words, today’s Muslims have accepted those two words metaphorically.

However, the Muslim Ulema don’t like to yield an inch to accept any metaphorical meaning of verses of Quran, while they accept the metaphorical meaning of the words Awrat and Nikah to avoid embarrassment. The Ulema-driven Muslim community is a confused lot now. Many such confusions started growing even during the formative period of Islam and instead of addressing those, violence was used liberally to suppress all confusions.

Ulema have their own compulsions. If they loosen their grip on Islam and Muslim community, the religion will fall apart because of its inherent lack of spirituality and they will lose their prominence in the community. The most important aspect of spirituality in Islam is Fear Allah. Islam has reduced Allah to the level of an ogre, who is keen to throw Muslims, on the day of Judgement (Akhiriyat), in unimaginable and eternal physical tortures of Jahannam (the Islamic hell) at the drop of a hat.

In a nutshell, Islam is a mental and physical slavery of 7th century tribal Arabia. In 21st century it is causing confusion among many Muslims. Is not Ex-Muslim Movement world-over today a fall out of these uncompromising attitudes and confusions of Islam?

No limit to what women can accomplish

0

Empowering women is a big responsibility, but it’s also vital for gender equality. Furthermore society benefits when women are treated with respect and not as second-class citizens. Women were limited in their houses and were not allowed to leave the house for employment but now things are changing periodically and drastically.

Empowering women gives them equal status which in turn gives them a frictionless environment. Secondly, it creates an opportunity for employment and makes them financially independent which is very important in this era. Moreover, her employment helps her to get rid of social violence and atrocities against her. It can help her to fight for her rights.

During the pandemic unemployment touched an all time high and countless breadwinners on the streets, families starved on a daily basis. The number of people unemployed in India rose from 43.32 million in 2021 to 44.20 million in 2022. Our youth and women are worst hit by the ongoing unemployment crisis; they deserve equal and ample opportunities to earn their livelihood.

Developing their skills is an integral part to help them to achieve their financial independence. Identifying their skills gaps and working to develop those skills further should be our aim so that they can be capable enough to earn their livelihoods.

Supporting women is our responsibility. They are also human beings then why are they treated unequally and deprived of their rightful place in society. Women empowerment is the process to grant women their true rights. An empowered women is powerful beyond measure and beautiful beyond description. Our progress as a society can be double folded if women get the same treatment as men.

Major Tax reforms in Budget 2023?

0

The preparation of the budget for the Fiscal Year 2023-24 is in full swing, and it would be presented in the parliament on 1 February, 2023. As this budget is nearing to 2024, the current government before the country goes to polls in 2024, significant changes are expected to provide some financial relief to citizens and taxpayers.

According to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the next budget will be ‘carefully structured’ to sustain growth and contain inflation. Combating high energy prices in the near future also remains a key challenge for the government. Through this article, let’s discuss some expected changes in the Tax Structure which could be implemented in Budget 2023.

Changes in Capital Tax Structure

At present equity investments for more than 1 year are regarded as Long-term, and gains of more than Rs 100,000 are taxed at 10%. Equity investments for less than a year are regarded as Short-term and currently taxed at 15%. Investments in debt funds are considered long term after a duration of 3 years while investments in immovable properties are considered long term after 2 years, and long term capital gains from these investments are taxed at 20%.

To simplify this disparity of tax rates and holding periods among various asset classes, it is expected that a simplified Capital Gains Tax structure could replace the current structure, making investments in debt funds and real estate more lucrative.

Change in Tax Slabs: Relief for individual taxpayers

Some changes in Tax Slabs are expected which would provide relief to the middle class individual taxpayers. Last year taxpayers paying tax as per Old Tax regime (with tax rates 5%,20% and 30% plus surcharges) were provided with an alternative New Tax regime (with tax rates 5%,10%,15%,20%,25% and 30% plus surcharges) to choose a scheme which is more beneficial to them. In this regard, increasing the lower tax slabs could have a more significant impact on the Income Tax calculations of middle class individual taxpayers.

Implementation of Stakeholder recommendations

The Finance Ministry invited suggestions for changes in tax rates and structure for Direct as well as Indirect Tax from industry stakeholders and trade associations. “The industry also needs to submit the justification for their demand which, if found with merit, could become part of the Union Budget for 2023-24 (April-March), to be tabled in Parliament on February 1, 2023,” the ministry said in an official statement. The purpose of inviting these suggestions is to simplify tax structure, reduce compliance burden and litigation and improve the inverted duty structure in Direct tax. The deadline for sending these changes to the Finance Ministry was November 5, 2022.

In my opinion, implementing these changes will provide some relief to citizens who are already facing inflation and incentivize people to invest in the real estate sector as part of their investment portfolio.  Overall, the budget will help our economy to maintain its status as the fastest growing major economy of the world and simplified taxes would increase investments by Foreign Institutional Investors and help achieve the Indian government’s target to make India a developed nation by 2047 and increase the GDP from $3 trillion to $20 trillion.

Real is rational and rational real: A peep into how human brain functions

0

The phrases “real is rational” and “rational is real” are often used in philosophical and economic discourse to describe the relationship between reality and human reasoning. These phrases suggest that there is a close connection between what is real and what is rational, and that rational thought is an important tool for understanding and navigating the world.

The phrase “real is rational” suggests that the things that are real in the world are also rational, or logical and reasonable. This idea is often associated with rational choice theory in economics, which posits that people make rational decisions based on their own self-interest. According to this theory, people are assumed to be rational actors who make choices based on the costs and benefits of different options, and these choices reflect the underlying rationality of the world.

The phrase “rational is real” suggests that what is rational is also real, or has a tangible existence in the world. This idea is often associated with the concept of instrumental rationality, which refers to the use of reason to achieve specific goals or objectives. According to this perspective, rational thought is not just a way of understanding the world, but also a means of shaping and changing it.

Both of these phrases highlight the importance of rationality and reason in understanding and interacting with the world. However, they also raise questions about the limitations and biases of human reasoning, and the extent to which it can accurately reflect the complexities of the real world.

In conclusion, the phrases “real is rational” and “rational is real” suggest a close connection between reality and human reasoning. They highlight the importance of rationality and reason in understanding and interacting with the world, but also raise questions about the limitations and biases of human thought. – Abhyudaya Singh

Elon Musk: An evil in disguise?

0

Who would have thought that the ‘Blue Tick’ could be put up for sale? Elon Musk did!

The soon-to-be-paid blue tick caused a stir on the internet when Elon Musk Tweeted, “Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bullshit. Power to the people! Blue for $8/month.”

Though it appears a move to embrace equality and promote democracy but it’s more of a scheme of revenue generation. Earlier, too, he claimed of  a vast strategy about how to develop society technologically. When he first discussed AI in public, it appeared like he was discussing a potential apocalypse scenario right out of a Terminator film.

His principal initiatives envision a fundamentally disruptive rewiring of practically every major industry and global issue imaginable – automotive, aerospace, telecommunications, energy, transportation, infrastructure/tunneling, AI and healthcare. The major endeavors right now are Starlink and Neuralink.  Although the satellite internet constellation attempts to bring affordable internet to remote areas, it is having some concerning unintended consequences. For example, accidents involving other spacecraft, saturate the atmosphere with toxins and space debris, light pollution etc .

The usage of cellphones using the brain instead of the hands would be conceivable thanks to Neuralink chips for paralysed people. As a backup, all of a person’s memories may one day be stored on the chips, according to Musk. When a piece of technology is as unique as this one, there is a lot of interest about how it operates and anxiety about what it might signify for the future. These chips might be vulnerable to hacking, which could lead to mind control.

Musk’s plans to colonise Mars indicates that he is capable of subjugating mankind on this blue planet too. The good news is that Elon Musk says he loves humans, so we shouldn’t be concerned about potentially harmful results for his own race. But as we all know, ultimate power has the potential to corrupt absolutely. Just let’s hope he doesn’t develop into one of those comic book supervillains.

Is CBDC kicking out the crypto?

0

The basic notion of digital currency has been in existence for more than a quarter-century. Digital currencies were originally issued by central banks, such as DigiCash in 1989 and e-gold in 1996. However, the emergence of Bitcoin in 2009 significantly altered this paradigm.

A concept note on digital money has been issued by the Reserve Bank of India. It aims to prepare experimental deployments of a central bank-backed digital currency (CBDC) or e-Rupee. Central banks and governments all over the world are looking into the use of digital currencies that are backed by the government. Like fiat money, these currencies will have the full confidence and support of the government that issued them. Numerous cryptocurrencies, or digital currencies, have already been produced in their thousands.

The use of a centralized, permissioned network, which they operate on, makes a significant distinction. This gap is rapidly narrowing as commercial organizations and monetary authorities issue stable cryptocurrencies and CBDCs as solutions for mainstream payments. According to the RBI, the digital rupee would support India’s digital economy and improve the effectiveness of the banking and payment systems. The digital currency, known as the Digital Rupee, or e-Rupee, will be identical to a sovereign currency.

I conclude that the Indian government is drafting laws that may forbid some cryptocurrency-related behavior. The new payment ecosystem will be able to arrange itself around a well-designed CBDC, which will be a safe and impartial payment and settlement asset. If all private bank deposits were transferred to CBDCs, conventional banks would be forced to act as “loanable funds intermediaries” under the control of the central bank.

As of May 2020, only 35 nations were exploring a CBDC. By December 2022, every G7 economy would have advanced to the CBDC level. Over 95 percent of the world’s GDP, or 114 nations, are considering a CBDC. Das focused-on cryptocurrencies as his major area of worry, labelling them “speculative.” The governor of the Reserve Bank of India is advocating their outright prohibition. CBDs dealt with the issues.

Improved cross-border payments, freedom from credit and liquidity risk, financial inclusion, and more public access are just a few of the benefits. The development of CBDC has now advanced in 18 of the G20 nations. Das’ remarks come as India’s central bank works to roll out its own digital rupee.

Importance of education

0

Human education is a critical instrument in their lives. It is a significant distinction between a civilized and an undisciplined individual. Even if the country’s literacy rate has increased in recent years, more individuals need to be made aware of the importance of education. Every child, whether a male or a girl, must attend school and not drop out.

Education is beneficial not just to the individual but also to society. A well-educated individual is a valuable asset to society, contributing to its social and economic development. Such a person is always willing to assist society and the country. It is true to say that education is a stairway to a person’s and a nation’s achievement.

Education makes a person productive, allowing him or her to contribute to society in a positive way. It teaches us how to face many challenges and conquer them. A well-educated individual understands how to act in a polite and non-offensive manner. It shows us how to live a disciplined life while still making a respectable living. Our future is built on the basis of education. Education is also the sole weapon that may be used to combat numerous issues such as illiteracy, poverty, unemployment, and so on. A person’s education makes them more sensitive to the predicament of their fellow beings. A well-educated individual not only comprehends the issues but also possesses the essential abilities to address them.

An educated individual possesses competent skills and is more capable than someone who is uneducated. However, it is incorrect to think that education alone ensures success. Indeed, success necessitates a solid education, as well as devotion, attention, and hard effort. An educated individual is more sensible and capable of rational thought.Education allows a person to become self-sufficient. An educated individual does not rely on others and is capable of meeting his or her own requirements. A well-educated person also educates their family, and education benefits, not just the individual but also society and the nation. Education has a significant influence on our outlook, making us more optimistic about life and its objectives.

THE POOR STUDENTS STRUGGLING:-

India is a developing country, like many others in the world. With the second-largest population, it’s getting trapped into dangers of even more stringent captures of poverty and pressure. The way Indian Population is increasing is threatening, though there are initiatives to redeem India of such ailments, poverty still exists. Very evidently and sadly.

India claims to be a $3 trillion economy, but the gap between the poor and the rich is disturbing and true. There’s only one tool that can help the poor bridge the gap, that is education. Education can make anyone transform his/her life.

Similarly, for poor people education can change their lives, not immediately but gradually with time. They could get themselves employed and explore their potentials to make money and bridge the gap.

Well, it’s not just about money, but education would also give them a sense of being, and they might start identifying themselves with something more substantial than poverty. Education makes mobility within the hierarchy easier.

EDUCATION WOULD UPLIFT THE POOR:-

Education uplifts everyone who becomes a part of it. Your personality gets molded with your disciplines and thoughts. And attaining knowledge anyway makes you superior, capable and worthy. The poor could also find jobs, secure good positions in society and then fight the ailments that poverty always posed him with.

Though the Indian government is trying to make initiatives that all children have access to school and knowledge, the actual result of it is likely to take pretty much time.

There are still lacunae in how things are working. With the government, with the executioners, with the schools, the education system and very important- with people.

Education has to be made accessible to everyone and hence help the deprived class grow with its support. The reservation system in India has a very similar resonance with the same. The reservation favors the deprived more than the other candidates.

Termites or just leftists?

The left as continuously been against the back of BJP in the state of Gujarat but what is left exactly?

We have always been given the preamble of the REPUBLIC OF INDIA and told that the words written on it resonates the very feeling for which India fought and got her independence BUT now that I come to think of it, how did someone in the 1976 amended the very words that resonates our freedom? How does the addition of 3 words not CHANGE the very scenario? and why was this not taught to us in our schools?

Now that I really sit down and analyze, all the taught ‘FACTS’ and ‘HISTORY’ were based SOLELY on the leftist historians and they have always been striving for the point where they can just widen the gaps between the people either on the base of religion, caste, gender or ANYTHING that has enough fire to burn the country internally. With the sole motive of widening the gap and going forward with breaking the very essence of BHARAT, they went forward with their study curriculum and now that there is a party in power which is rectifying this wrong doings, the TERMITES ARE WORRIED ABOUT THEIR GRIP ON INDIA.

We have always seen that whenever there is a religious conflict in India, the so called ‘EDUCATED, SENSIBLE, LEFTIST-LIBERALS’  are the first one to support the ‘controversial’ side, either it is Afzal Guru or Ajmal Kasab, its always ‘he is just ANTI-GOVERNMENT NOT ANTI INDIA.’  and that too after a clear indications and slogans related to a complete breakdown of India. After the Ram Janambhoomi Case, where the  liberal-left changed its side, stance and facts again and again, it became quite evident, THEY JUST WANT A DIVIDED AND INTERNALLY DISTURBED INDIA WHILE THEY INCITE THESE FIGHTS AND SPEAK AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT FOR NOT PROVIDING EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY.

The ‘CONTROVERSIAL’ Babri Mosque demolition.

It sometimes shocks me of the sheer audacity of the Left to say that they are standing with the socially backwards when what they are actually doing is just going against the ‘SECULAR FABRIC’ of this nation by being the primary source of misinformation and hate. The left thinking has always been considered the ‘MODERN AND EDUCATED’ thinking while the rightist thinking has always been considered the ‘Patriarchal, Old, Conservative, Orthodox’ way of thinking, but now that this thinking is getting broken by the very people, the left is not able to digest this fact and the one going with the Government are labelled as a ‘Sanghi, Fascist, Extremist, Saffron Terrorist’.

The Left Truth

The very thought process of the left is something to laugh upon as they somehow want the very people who elected the Government in power to criticize the Government on every step like they do, I mean “WHAT ARE YOU AND WHY WOULD YOU THINK THAT?” Why would the people who are bringing the BJP in power and that too with a HUGE margin criticize it on each and every step, they know why and what they have elected. Its high time that the left comes up with a people pleasing idea and strategy to survive or they will be ‘extinct’ in India.

Disparity in road conditions

0

Disparity in road conditions “India’s road infrastructure will match USA by 2024” This is the line frequently spoken by the Honourable Union minister for road transport and Highway “Shri Nitin Gadkari ji”. To achieve its target government has done quite good work. According to reports, the Highway network expanded by 10,457 km in the year 2021-22 with a rate of 28.64 km per day. Expressway (the highest quality roads in India) construction is also being done at a fast pace. 22 new expressways are under construction with a completion target of the year 2024.

While the pace of highway construction surely is impressive, little to no attention is being given to the district and rural level roads. “Potholes, congested, dangerous and ill-maintained” are the words that perfectly describe the condition of district and rural level roads in the majority of the country. Filled with potholes, these roads have turned into accident-prone zones.

The situation gets worst during the rainy season. Due to water-logging, one can not find a safe way to move ahead as large pits are waiting for their prey open-mouthed. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, about 5% of the deaths on road are due to potholes only. Neither the pedestrians are safe nor the chariots.

While traversing on an expressway one may get the feel of being in foreign but as soon as they get to district-level roads, they get the reality check. The reason behind this huge disparity in road quality is poor road construction, lack of timely repair and maintenance, and indifference on part of authorities. Inferior quality material is used by contractors to cut corners.

If the government truly wants India to match American road infrastructure then it must carry out proper maintenance of the district and rural roads. As former US president John F Kennedy once remarked “American roads are not good because America is rich, but America is rich because American roads are good” we have to take this quote to the ground level then only we can match the American infrastructure.

Periods talk and the need to normalize it

0

Menstruation has always been a topic of deliberation in all households and societies. This is especially so in an Asian society where it is usually frowned upon as a taboo. In India, not allowing girls to go to the temple to not letting them into their own kitchen when they are on periods are just some ways that curb not only the availability of better hygiene products but also the knowledge regarding the same. The lack of knowledge results in the formation of more such myths which create an environment of misconceptions and hatred toward oneself.

As per UNICEF every month around 1.8 million people across the world menstruate. It is not just the women that get periods but also many transgenders who have it.  The majority of such people aren’t only deprived of safe menstrual products but also the already existing stigmas, stereotypes, and other social ethos bar them from accessing the same openly.

I am Kritika Aggarwal, a social entrepreneur working with HAMARI PAHCHAAN NGO to help reduce the same. The NGO was founded in 2015 by a very commendable person Mr. Tarun Mathur. The initiative to him was not just a one-day effort but born through various realizations and experiences he gained and suffered through. The existing social evils like poverty, rape, and the inability of many women to take their own stand because of the prevalent mindset led him to start the initiative. He created many projects like SUKHAD (Menstrual well-being), DHRISHTI(Education), and many other Skill development programs to help women uplift themselves in society.

Through this I not only learned about various skills like crowdfunding, designing posters and content, etc but also learned about various issues that exist and things that need to be normalized like the cause of Menstruation that I am working upon. The NGO is not just limited to women but also other underprivileged classes that need help, support, and a chance to uplift themselves out of the shackles the society has placed on them. Thus here at the NGO, it’s not just other people who were helped through this initiative but also me who grew up as a person.
