Indian National Congress: The biggest threat to Indian democracy

0

When it comes to claiming the sacrifices made for Independence, the Congress Party leaves no stone unturned to appropriate all the leaders and the sacrifices they made during the freedom struggle. Even for the establishment of Democracy in India, Congress’ narrative remains the same. But how much of it is true? Even today when it is in shambles, the Congress is not looking beyond the Nehru-Gandhi family for leadership. The recent trends in appointment of its President clearly shows that despite having so many educated and celebrated leaders who can hold the post more efficiently, the Congress at the end goes back to the family. While this might today be a public knowledge as the real face of despotic and nepotistic Congress has been unveiled in recent past, yet there are various historical events which the people of this country deserve to know in order to judge the stand of the Party and its leaders when it comes to democracy. This article refers to five historical instances where democracy and rule of law meant nothing for the party and the ways in which it threatened our Constitutional principles.

First incident was when Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was elected as the President of Indian National Congress for second time. Reports state that it was due to the ideological differences between Gandhi and Netaji because of which Netaji resigned from Congress in 1939. Patel too joined along with Gandhi to project Pattabhi Sitarammayya as the candidate for presidency during 1939 elections. He went on to claim that even if Netaji is re elected his policies would be vetted and if required vetoed by the working committee. Most people don’t know for a fact that this rivalry was not merely because of ideological differences between Gandhi and Patel on one side and Netaji on the other, but because of a dispute pertaining to property between Patel and Netaji on will of Patel’s elder brother Vithalbhai who died in 1933. One of the most celebrated historians of India, Ramachandra Guha remarks, “Bose had nursed Vithalbhai during his last illness. In his will, the elder Patel left three-fourths of his estate to Bose, to be used ‘preferably for publicity work on behalf of India’s cause in other countries’. Vallabhbhai now cast aspersions on the authenticity of the will. A long legal battle ensued, which ended in a triumph for Vallabhbhai, with Vithalbhai’s next of kin getting the money instead of Subhas.” Had the party been so democratic, would it have been possible to seek resignation of one of the most loved heroes of India who despite resigning from the party fought for national cause showing the world that Congress was not the only reason behind India’s independence.

Second incident came into picture when the fight for Presidency was between Nehru and Patel. It has been repeatedly said that Jawaharlal Nehru was unanimously elected as the first Prime Minister of India and was the darling of the country. However, the real story is different. During the 1946 elections, it became clear that freedom from British rule was inevitable. At that time only the Pradesh Congress Committees could nominate and elect the Congress President and thereby the first Prime Minister of India. A perusal of the Congress Party documents show that despite Gandhiji having made his choice known (Nehru), 12 out of 15 Pradesh Congress Committees nominated Sardar Patel. The remaining three abstained from nomination process. Thus, no Pradesh Congress Committee, the only legitimate body to nominate and elect the President, nominated Jawaharlal Nehru. Yet it is public knowledge that following those elections, Nehru was declared as the unanimous choice for the first Prime Minister of India. This narrative was carried forward by our history books and the lies spread became the truth for the future generations. Had Gandhi and Nehru been democratic, it should have been Patel as the first Prime Minister of India.

Third incident was post-independence, during the tenure of Indira Gandhi. While we all know about the emergency and all other undemocratic decisions taken by Indira Gandhi, this one is particularly less known. This pertains to the Privy Purse provision under the constitution of India. During Independence, under the Indian Independence Act, 1947, each ruler had the option of either acceding to the dominion of India or Pakistan or continuing as an independent sovereign state. Menon and Patel found a way out in form of privy purse. In return for surrendering their powers, Articles 291 and 362 guaranteed the princely states a tax-free privy purse which was approximately one-fourth of what they had earlier earned. Indira Gandhi following her socialist agenda abolished the Privy Purse. The abolishing of the privy purses is often termed as constitutional betrayal and is considered to be one of the most shameful episodes of our constitutional history. If revocation of Privy Purses was constitutional as it was based on a bill passed by Parliament, which essentially meant going back on the promise made to the princely states, then what is wrong in revocation of Article 370? Why such double standards are being portrayed by the Congress Party?

Fourth incident pertains to leaving no stone unturned to limit the powers of our independent judiciary. Although nearly all the amendments that were made during Indira’s time were unconstitutional and undemocratic be it the 39th Amendment (elections of the president, vice-president, prime minister and speaker could not be questioned in any court of law), 41st Amendment (prohibited any civil or criminal proceedings against the president, vice-president, prime minister and all governors) or 42nd Amendment (this amendment was to severely restricted the Supreme Court and the high courts in their powers to strike down any legislation which was ultra vires the Constitution), yet the best example of abuse of power relates to the appointment of Justice Ajit Nath Ray as the Chief Justice of Supreme Court. The appointment was made on April 25, 1973, a day after the SC’s judgement in the Kesavananda Bharati case, where a 13-judge constitution bench, by a 7-6 verdict, had outlined the ‘basic structure’ doctrine of the Constitution.

While the outcome of this judgement remains one of the most celebrated decisions in India, yet the three senior-most judges who were part of majority verdict did not find place in Indira’s list of being eligible to be appointed as CJI. Ajit Nath Ray who gave dissenting opinion superseded three senior judges to become the Chief Justice of India. The idea of democracy is not merely limited to creating democratic institutions but also to respect their independence. Indira Gandhi’s move shows that she never respected any of the democratic institutions of the country and followed a nepotistic approach in all major appointments. Had Congress been democratic, would AN Ray ever have become the CJI superseding three senior judges? As remarked by Nani Palkhivala in his book, Our Constitution: Defaced and Defiled, Indira Gandhi’s tenure surely did harm the basic principles on which this nation was created.

Fifth incident pertains to conferring of Bharat Ratna to MG Ramachandran (actor and CM of Tamil Nadu) posthumously in 1988 by the then Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi. Many believe it was done in a bid to influence voters prior to the Tamil Nadu assembly elections in 1989. The decision was criticised for awarding Ramachandran and rightly so, as it was not yet awarded to chief architect of our Constitution Ambedkar and the man behind India’s integration Sardar Patel, who were bestowed the honour later in 1990 and 1991 respectively. A party that stooped so low for retaining power once, today questions the proposal to award Bharat Ratna for Veer Savarkar, in whose bravery and valour made Indira Gandhi issued commemorative stamps.

These glaring examples show how democratic Congress has been historically. The influence of Marxism and Socialism on its leaders has sowed seeds for autocracy in its leadership. Probably Rajni Kothari was right in his analysis that during the first fifty years of independence, India’s system was one party system similar to what we have today in China, North Korea and Cuba. It was not that opposition never emerged and voiced its concerns but every time leaders opposed, autocrats like Indira Gandhi supressed their voice by putting them behind bars. It is not at all shocking that today the party cannot look beyond “the family” for leadership. The seeds of nepotism which were sowed during the freedom struggle have grown into full-fledged trees resulting in ever growing control of the family over the party.

Charliehebdo team

Even an atheist won’t support evil just to oppose God, know why opposition is not needed to Modi from ethical perspective

0

The exit poll predictions clearly show that both in Maharashtra and in Haryana, BJP is set to win with massive majority and on the other hand, the opposition party – Indian National Congress under the claws of one family is going to face another humiliating defeat.

The debate is not about congress loosing elections after elections or how unwise and arrogant is its leader – the great dynast Shri Rahul Gandhi. Many people are expressing their pseudo worry and false patriotism for our nation by making a war cry that how our democracy could survive without a strong opposition.

Democracy doesn’t survive only due to or simply because of opposition. Media and judiciary too play a significant role in democracy. If media houses started to follow the true spirit of journalism and report facts and truths instead of executing their hidden political agenda, certainly our democracy would survive and grow healthy even without a strong opposition.  Similarly judiciary too is expected to respect the mandate of people and the Government has certain additional responsibilities other than constitutional one called political and therefore the judiciary must restrain itself from entertaining the petitions of some so called liberal voices and waste the time of the Honourable court.

Atheist too won’t support evil forces because they oppose God. If they have ever done so, it would look like they hate God because they love evil forces and it is not true that they do not really believe in the existence of God.

Just to make the democracy to survive in India, people of India cannot support divisive forces, forces that wants to come to power to loot our country, wants to promote family interest and dynastic politics, perpetuate nepotism and minority appeasement and make India a land of corruption and scam.

People see Narendra Modi as an embodiment of honesty, truth, dedication and commitment; have good intent, clear vision, is hardworking, decisive, development centric and is focusing on sab ka vikas.

People of India have clearly understood the fact that God is a positive force and that exist in the universe not because of the negative force called evil forces or negativity. God has come only to destroy all evil forces and liberate humanity from devils and demons that hunts humanity, impede progress and development. The question is when people see Modi as an avatar of God, how can they support those forces that oppose Modi just because they wants to oppose him.

Further the dubious records of most of the opposition parties are quite well known; most of them carry a huge baggage of dynasty, corruption charges, promote nepotism and play divisive politics of minority appeasement.

When the country is ruled by a noble, good hearted, divine persona, why such country need opposition just for the sake of opposition. Since independence Modi is the first Prime Minister to govern the state free of corruption, nepotism and dynastic political interferences.

Governing a country like India with such diversity is not that easy. No policy is going to be appealing to all the diverse regions in India and hence the larger interest of every policy alone can be taken for consideration. For example, the abrogation of article 370 and scraping of 35A, naturally the separatists and those political parties that support such agenda cannot support.  But in the larger interest of India, Modi has nullified article 370 despite opposition by congress because congress simply wants to oppose Modi and please some minority community.

Modi may have to do lot more and that does not mean the government has failed.  That is why people of India are still with Modi. People of India understands how some our babus and government officials are playing double game, supporting the opposition and delaying several path breaking government initiatives. Soon all those negative forces will be identified and frozen.

India needs no opposition as long as a noble and extraordinarily honest leader like Modi is leading the country where Shri Amit Shah remains as how Lakshman was to Lord Ram. If media houses do its job honesty instead of worrying about lack of opposition, certainly not only democracy, India also shall flourish and flower under Modi.

People of India are very optimistic, positive and want honesty and truth from those who govern India. Modi needs no opposition because people see that for God, goodness and truth to exist, we do not need evil, devilishness and dishonesty because the positive energy is not born due to negative energy. Today most of the negative forces are getting vanquished by the divine force which let us not describe as lack of opposition and democracy is at peril. Let us support Modi to make India a great land of peace, prosperity, free from dynastic politics, nepotism, corruption and minority appeasement.

Siddha system is the geographic indicator of Tamil philosophy, tradition and spirituality – Let not BSMS curriculum be in English

0

When some select Tamil Nadu political groups make war cry for Tamil language and its promotion, some from the ancient traditional and faith based healing practice that thrived in Tamil Nadu called Siddha wants to change the entire curriculum scripts of Siddha (BSMS) from Tamil to other languages so that they can attract students from other states to join for BSMS course.

The spiritual and sacred values of Siddha system lies in the Tamil literary profundity and Tamil tradition. Today Siddha system has recognition, space and its exalted niche in the map of India because of it is endemic to Tamil Nadu from which the practice got originated and spread to other parts of the world.

If we dilute the soul of Siddha system by translating the teaching curriculum of Siddha system, sooner than later we would erode the essence and uniqueness of Siddha system as well as the legacy and wisdom of Tamil scholars about health, disease, health recipe preparations and the holistic understanding of body-mind relation in dealing health and disease. Translating Siddha wisdom in English language is not a bad idea, as such an effort would expand the understating of Siddha system to everyone especially those who do not know Tamil language. Providing the curriculum of Siddha in English or other language just to increase the student base for Siddha system will certainly destroy the credence and relevance of the ancient Tamil wisdom.

Like how Ayurveda is linked with our Vedas and Sanskrit language, Siddha is linked with Tamil culture and tradition and hence the teaching of Siddha at BSMS level must be in Tamil and only then the true scholarliness of Siddha system would remain relevant and glorious.

The commercial interest seems to be inundating the Tamil tradition and the ancient wisdom of health to its advantage but such an endeavour would certainly erode Siddha system and would reduce the Siddha system as yet another traditional healing practice.

Siddha system has great philosophy, tradition, legacy, spirituality and literary power of Tamil language. All of them we cannot translate. Only the letter we can translate at best and not the spirit.  Siddha system must be dealt with the ‘sprit’ of the system and not just the letter.

Popularizing and expanding the acceptance of Siddha system must be done through positioning the system for wellness and health and not by competing with allopathic system or trying to project the Siddha recipes as drugs like that of allopathy.

Unfortunately many institutionally qualified Siddha vaidya in private practice by engaging in cross pathy has earned a very bad reputation to Siddha system. Through cross pathy, such Siddha vaidyas have indirectly proved to the patients that Siddha system does not have effective remedies and that is why they are prescribing allopathic drugs.

Siddha system is wellness providing, health restoring system. Siddha concept and philosophy of addressing the health lies in the holistic outlook and seeing the mind-body relation in totality. The premedical and post – treatment care or in simple reference, the paramedical values of Siddha system is extremely relevant, which is vibrant, dynamic and important to our present generation.  Instead of promoting the real strength of Siddha system, some vaidya in private practice are promoting allopathic system and neglecting Siddha system.

The recent demand for translation of Siddha curriculum from Tamil to English is another attempt to put the last nail in coffin of our glorious, rich Siddha healing practice that evolved with great philosophy and wisdom of our ancient Tamil scholars and Siddhars.

Siddha system has lots to offer to our humanity as it has rich mention of various paramedical and pre-medical recipes, procedures, methodologies and dos & don’ts to live healthy and happy.

Siddha system is the geographic indicator of Tamil literature and philosophy and hence the Siddha curriculum should not be translated in English. Government of Tamil Nadu and Ministry of AYUSH must ensure that all Siddha vaidya in private practice do not engage in cross pathy and cause medication health fraud and questions the relevance of Siddha system.

Strict law must be enacted to punish all those vaidya when engages in cross pathy and quackery. Let us make our India healthy and happy by promoting AYUSH for wellness and health and also for various paramedical benefits. Philosophy and spirituality are also essential to deal our health problems because mind-body balance is the cardinal principle of understanding and curing every problem.

Ram, a misfit in today’s India?

0

What would happen if Lord Rama visits Ayodhya this Diwali? Will he be able to relate to the 21st century India or will he find himself as a misfit? How will a conversation go if I had to show Lord Ram around? “I” here represent some of the kids from the nineties and a lot of millennial kids.

[Disclaimer: The following conversation is imaginary has nothing to do with any person living or dead. The colors chosen were to differentiate the two speakers, initially I wanted to use green instead of blue along with saffron (from the Indian flag) but you can guess how it would have been perceived. The original with colors is available here: Ram, a misfit in today’s India ]

It was a Saturday afternoon, I just had lunch with my buddies, while coming out of the restaurant I saw a weird man. He donned a dhoti kurta and was observing people and things disturbingly quietly. He caught me staring at him, which made me a little uneasy and I said:

Sup man?

I am sorry, what?? he replied

I am saying what are you up to? You look lost!!

Why do you think I am lost? I am simply looking around. I will soon be heading to the place where Raja Ram was born.

Raja who?

He looked at me with a quint in his eyes and said Raja Ram from Ramayana, the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu.

Oh you meant Bhagwan Ram.

No, I meant Raja Ram. Since when and how did a king become god for the people?

Whatever man!! the court is deciding if “Raja/Bhagwan” Ram was born there or not.

Eyebrows.. Still? I visited the place a decade ago, the court was still deciding. I heard the excavations also proved the same.

Do you think it is a simple task? Its complex. You don’t know it man.

Okay, I could at least visit some other places in the city. I haven’t been here for long.

I could tell you about some of the interesting bars, pubs, party places etc etc here in the city.

Thank you but I am not interested in those activities.

Oh are you a teetotaler? That’s so uncool bro! Have you not tried any booze or smoke or powder at all? No rave parties?

No, never!

WoooHoo, you must be from the countryside.

You could show me some other popular places in the city.

Okay, Gaounty! I could do that, but not today. I have to spend the evening with my girl today, her parents are out of town. We could do it tomorrow morning.

Girl?

Yeah, girl-girlfriend-babe,

Oh that’s wonderful. So when are you going to marry her?

WTF man.. where did wedding come from? We are just exploring each other, having fun (you know what I mean), living the life like there is no tomorrow. After all we get only one life. Don’t say you think that spending life with only one partner is fun.

Actually it is fun. What’s wrong with that? I did that. Loved one women my entire life, was extremely proud of her, never looked at any other women, even fought a mighty formidable monster to get her back. And she did the same for me, she spent her life in exile with me just for being with me.

Man you are old fashioned, it does not happen this way now. We have dates, flings, one night stands, affairs, pre-marital, extra-marital– that’s fun, cool and progressive. Having more than one partners adds few points in your life resume. If you have only one, you are boring.

Speechless… I guess, even thinking about spending your life with one person seems to be regressive now. But do your and her parents know about this?

No they don’t. But even if they would know they should not interfere in our life, We are independent adults, we would do what we like not what they like. There is something called as individualism. Isn’t there?

Eyebrows..  You should always obey your parents. My dad debarred me from his property for fourteen years for no mistake of mine, I never asked him a question, just followed his orders.

Seriously?? You were dumb bro. You should have stood up for your rights. You should have fought back. How could your old man mess up your life? He had no right to do that!!

This is weird. But anyways, let it go, we meet tomorrow morning. Okay?

Done. In fact my brother has a car, I could bring it. Although, he does not want me driving his car, but he is on a business trip so, I can have it and no body has to know about it.

That’s completely wrong. You shouldn’t do this. Brothers should love and respect each other and no one should lie even if nobody will know or is watching. My brother never took my place when my father debarred me from his property. My other brother loved me so much he sacrificed his youth to just be with his elder brother during his tough times.

Wow!! hehe, I thought you were the dumb one, your younger brother definitely deserves “who is the dumbest of all” trophy. So tell me should I bring the car or not?

No, thank you but that’s not required.

How are we going to visit places then?

We could use the taxi service.

Hoho!! buddy we can, but we shouldn’t. Those guys are really smart, they can trick you into paying more without you realizing it.

What!!! that’s not called smart, that’s called cheating and is unethical.

My dear slow friend, you are smart only if you get what you want, no matter how. You need money, you squeeze it out from others. You need more space for your shop, you encroach the road. You need to live a lavish life, you do business in cash, keep the government out of the loop, evade taxes. You exploit the public resources to the core to benefit your private self.

That’s wrong. You should help your government to build a better nation, and not hamper their plans. Of course if you think something is wrong you should ask questions, and the ruler should provide you the answers to your satisfaction, no matter what the price is. You know what, a washer man  questioned the integrity and loyalty of king’s wife, the king had to answer. The king’s wife understood king’s dilemma and jumped into fire to prove her truth and did succeed in proving it. However, the king had to reject this fire test. Why? If he would have had accepted the results, can you guess how many women would have been thrown into fire by common people in order to know their loyalty? A king can not let that happen to his subjects. Instead the king asked his pregnant wife to leave him and go to the forest again, because he knew there isn’t any way to prove her loyalty. The king lead a lonely sad life after letting go the only love of his wife. He didn’t see his children growing up. He didn’t play with them.

That’s sad. But but but, voluntarily jumping into the fire? and “who is the dumbest of all” trophy goes to the king’s wife. She should have stood her ground. She should have fought for her rights, it does not matter if a stupid person asks a question, it does not matter if she was a queen. Weren’t there any feminists at that time?

Indeed there was, the king himself was the biggest feminist at that time. He did support a lot of sidelined women and brought them out of their misery. For instance Shabari, a tribal women or Ahalya, a rape victim and some more.

Okay Okay, whatever. But you know what, you don’t worry about that, they would not trick us, I am friends with the taxi guys. And when you know that, why do you support them? Secondly, why do I support them? I get free rides all the time, why should I ax my own feet? Do I look crazy to you?

Actually, I knew somebody, who when realized that his own brother was doing wrong, tried to oppose him. He went to the extent that he took his brother’s enemy’s side to fix his brother.

Hahaha, and the winner of “who is the the dumbest of all” has been replaced by a new guy. #brocode. This is getting really interesting. The men and women from the dumb island. So, no car, no taxi!

Yes, we will walk.

As you wish. when and where?

We can meet at the holy river bank before the sun rises, we could do the “surya namaskar” (sun salutation) and some yoga together before we start our day.

Wo wo.. religious guyI am an atheist. I don’t do these stupid things.

Oh so Mr Atheist, how do you pay respect to the mother nature; the sun whose energy you consume, the river whose water you use, the cow and other animals who you domesticate, the trees and plants you eat? That too for free! How do you express your gratitude for these things? Or you take them for granted? Since you and I can’t do anything in return for them, we could at least say thank you. can’t we? Or you have found something you could do for the sun, the moon, the river, the trees? Salutation is the easiest. Respect the sun, the moon, the rivers, the trees or you cease to exists one day.

And how did Yoga become religious? Don’t say OM say MOM, the very same effect, instead of SHIVA say SHIA of SHI, the same sound, the same vibrations, the same effect. And the rest is physical posture.

Now the lecture… and the bhakt inside you is speaking now?  You are a Bhakt. Aren’t you?

And by the way, before sun rise? are you crazy? that’s night not morning you early to bed early to rise uncool guy. I sleep at 2, that’s cool.  I can’t wake up that early. Moreover, even if I could, I won’t because I don’t hangout with Bhakts. I know more than enough, I don’t need extra gyan.

I am sorry, if I offended you in some way. I definitely did not mean to hurt you. No more “lectures”, promise you. You could join.

No thanks. I neither have time nor energy to withstand your crap. I guess you should make a tv series about your dumb island, and I would be able to decide who actually wins the “who is the dumbest of all” trophy.

Isn’t already there? The Ramanad Sagar’s 1987 Ramayana or a new 2012 Ramayana?

Come on man, do you think in the age of HD, ultra HD, 4k and 8k resolution I will watch that pathetic print with pathetic acting? They suck!!!

I simply don’t understand why do some of us still want a Ram Mandir or some of us don’t want a Ram Mandir. Ram is long dead. The principles attached to Raja Ram are long dead. In modern society, those attributes are associated with “dumbness” or “slowness”. We relate more to Ravan then Ram. We related to lust, arrogance, anger, greed, hatred, delusion, some of the typical properties from Ravan. May be that’s why some of us see a sinner in Ram and a saint in Ravan. It helps justifying our deeds. May be this is the reason why a raja became god. The principles raja Ram followed are divine or simply impossible to be followed by today’s humans.

WhatsApp Image 2019-10-09 at 14.56.21

I think Ram Mandir issue is merely consuming resources that could have been used for other more pressing concerns. Court’s indecisiveness (which by the way is one of Ravan’s trait) has costed us dearly. I hope the court this time gets it for good. If they can’t they should at least make a 100 years stand still agreement i.e. the entire controversial land is banned till the year 2119 – not accessible by anyone. We could decide on this issue at that time. At least we would do something meaningful till then.

Just a thought though, if Raja/Lord Ram was not born in Ayodhya, where was he born? or is this issue exists to subtly prove that Ram never existed?

The most unfortunate part is that, Indians in 21st century inherited the moral code of conduct on a silver platter, but they decided to reinvent the wheel. It does not matter if the Ramayana and Mahabharata actually existed or not. They were written so that we can learn from them, not because we need to play a judge. We chose latter. How could anyone blame the younger generation? Their exposure to Ramayana and Mahabharata is limited to Bal Hanuman or Chota Bheem, the “cartoons“. Cartoons are a good start, but they are not enough. There should at least be one world class tv series for adults and growing children that is at par in terms of quality with the other contemporary series. And not the interpretation for or by the liberals, specific to Bhakts exactly as the older generation (our granny’s) knew it.

Thanks for Reading! Wish you all a very happy and prosperous Diwali!

Shameful #GoBackModi, a dent in TN’s Hour of Fame

It was Tamil Nadu’s finest hour in international diplomacy, in hosting the Modi-Xi Jinping summit meeting at Mamallapuram. Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami rightly thanked Modi, on behalf of all Tamilians and Tamil Nadu, for having chosen the heritage site. Did Tamil Nadu roll out the red carpet in keeping with its culture and tradition in hospitality? Even High Court could not resist a quip or two that Chennai and Kancheepuram Districts were sporting a spotlessly clean look and several more such visits may do a world of good for cleanliness as godliness. Did it extend to the cleanliness in heart and mind, of every Tamilian?

That even such a question is posed, is a blot of the cultural ethos of TN. Dissent is the essence of democracy. Xi would have noted that Tibetan refugees were allowed to protest but moved out when they tried to break the cordon. India is different. We are a functioning democracy even if anarchic. There is no political freedom in China. We have a lot to be proud of.

It is all fine to contest Modi on his policy platform. Question his judgment to render Art.370 inoperable or keep Kashmir in lockdown mode. Take on Modi-Shah combine, all political guns blazing. Fine. But to troll #GoBackModi is surely not rooted in Tamilian culture, we wear on our sleeces. It is abhorrently untamilian, as it can ever get. Modi is the Prime Minister of India. He was coming to TN and hosting a prestigious summit, opening up the eyeballs of the world to our pride- Mamallapuram. He was coming to host a summit with the Chinese President, at a critical juncture when the geo politics and trade negotiations, the world over, was in not mere flux but turmoil, thanks to the chaotic ways of the maverick US President Donald J Trump.

Forgetting all the nuances and sobriety the occasion demanded of us, as Tamilians, there was a dedicated set of hate mongers indulging in a #GoBackModi retinue. Utterly shameful of them. They have dented the image of a welcoming Tamil Nadu. They may not care. But We The People do. The world was watching and noting that TN had no respect and regard- ignore reverence- for its own democratically elected Prime Minister. It did not jell well with anything and everything Tamilian. Left a bad taste in the mouth and hurt TN’s global image.

It is all very well to research and tell that 58% of online troll with the #GoBackModi emanated from Pakistan, 22% from India and only 2% from TN. This, to tell ourselves that we were not so bad after all. But, truth to tell, the very thought of asking Modi to go back, is antithetical to every attribute any Tamilian prides himself in or ought to. Surely, Chinese being far ahead of us, in any which way, on the digital network, would not have missed it.

It was Richard Nixon, the outgoing President of US who said, while resigning from his office, in the wake of the Watergate scandal, “Always remember, others may hate you, but those who hate you, don’t win unless you hate them, and then you destroy yourself.”

No one knows it better than a Tamilian brought up on the lore of Sangam literature, Puranamuru, Aganamuru, Avvayyar’s Aathichoodi and Subramania Bharathiyar’s evocative poems et al. Of course, towering above all of them, is Saint Thiruvalluvar’s Thirukural .Valluvar is the presiding deity in the assertions on the nobility and virtues of a human being, community, city, State, Nation

Valluvar has devoted one Adhikaram for Virundhombal- Hospitality. And Modi was well informed enough to tweet this on the eve of his summit in TN. And then, he attired himself in Pattukarai Veshti and Angavastaram- typifying a Tamilian in celebratory mode, welcoming the Chinese Premier. Modi was highly respectful of the Tamilian culture and its moorings. He chose to become a Tamilian in TamilNadu and even gifted Xi with priceless artefacts imbued with Tamilian heritage.

Nevertheless, what did at least a few of us indulge in? Giving traction to the troll #GoBackModi. Our hate, no matter it was fair, just or misplaced, subsumed all our Tamilian values. We let hate take over our welcoming instincts. We were unmindful of the position Modi occupies or the solemnity of the occasion. We had our petty scores of perfidy to settle. They mattered more than our duty by our character as a Tamilian and cause of the occasion. We could not have conducted ourselves in a more shameful or demeaning manner than we could ever imagine was even possible. It was anything but Tamilian. That we celebrate hate is symptomatic of the divisive times we live in. It surely does not augur well for our progeny. That, it is OK to ask your Prime Minister to #GoBack, when he was here welcoming the supremo of the most populated and second biggest economy in the world, is worrisome? Shame on us, not plague.

Political differences are fine. Healthy dissent is welcome. We may even hate on policy differences. But do we need to let hate take precedence. Modi is the most popular leader, by far, in India. He is loved too. Yes, his Bhakts can be madly so and indulge in abusive trolls too. But all that surely does not give us, Tamilians, the handle to indulge in such despicable conduct, which does no proud to Tamil Nadu and its culture, as a welcoming State, which has taught the world and continues to teach it, on the precept and practice of Virundhombal, as the overarching virtue of any society.

We have failed us. We have failed Tamil Nadu. We have failed the Tamilian Culture. #GoBackModi does no good to Tamil Nadu’s hall of fame. The hate we exude will consume us in its wake. We are not this hate. Our culture is richer.

Modi may come, Modi may go. But what would remain is the hate culture we are spewing and spawning. It is not Tamilian. Let us become us, who we are. We don’t need to love Modi. We may not like him for what he stands for. But, surely, we don’t need to hate him, for after all we love to be Tamils, proud in our heritage.

It may be easy to be dismissive of the minority of ‘haters’, with this Kural-

In the midst of all their wealth, it would be the most pitiable state of poverty indeed, if they do not find it in themselves to be hospitable to guests. Such men, in their hearts, exceedingly mean and deserve to be despised for their poverty in plenty.

Would it not enhance us as Tamilians, lending genuine pride in our culture to behave as in this Kural-

The poorer (not merely in financial faculties) the guest, the greater the responsibility of the host to make him feel welcome- to be treated more delicately than the most sensitive flower.

We may vote him or not. Let us not boot him. That is not us. Or Tamilian tradition and culture.

Is Rahul Gandhi often display ‘mundiri-k-kottai’ (முந்திரிக்கொட்டை) behaviour?

0

In Tamil language the phrase ‘mundiri-k-kottai’ (cashew nut) is often referred to a person’s behaviour which is not only immature, but also ill-intended and unintelligent.

In normal practice the nut or seed are always formed inside a fruit or vegetable which is surrounded by edible flesh or epicarp but cashew is an exception where the nut is protruded outside of the fruit. Whenever a person who tries to make his or presence felt much more than needed and too loud to prove he is first and the best are called ‘mundiri-k-kottai’. Such people often make comments and statements just to ensure that they are first to have some idea or rhetoric. More often such people make statements which are not verified, factually correct and reflect complete truth.

During Maharashtra assembly election campaign the dynast of the congress party Shri Rahul Gandhi recalled the name of Abhijit Banerjee the one of the recipient of Nobel Prize in Economics just to prove that the Nobel laureate only has designed the NYAY poll promise of congress party. The dynast made such statement soon after Abhijit Banerjee was awardee with Nobel Prize in Economics.

Look at the total disconnect of his statement. NYAY was the poll promise of congress party in the last parliament election which was rejected by people because if such programme were to be implemented, the tax payers have be juiced further. Further no one believed congress or its poll promises. The relevance of NYAY in the recent Maharashtra assembly election is poor but still the dynast wants to make such statement because he does not have anything else to say to the people of Maharashtra.

Recently the Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee has openly stated that he had only provided some data of his study to congress party and did not design or consult NYAY. In one stroke the dynast wants to make his political fortune by glamor-ing his speech that congress party has consulted the Nobel Prize winner, its NYAY programmed and catch the attention of Maharashtra electorates. Unfortunately no one understands why the dynast makes such mess which later found to be half-true and affects his credibility which is already low?

When Maharashtra BJP proposed highest civilian award for Vir Savarkar, one of the icons of our freedom struggle and the fulcrum of our unity in diversity, the dynast had made some irresponsible statement through its spokes persons which was later diluted by Manmohan Singh. At one end the dynast tries to prove his Brahmin DNA, Shiv Bhakti and temple hopping and at the other end he is engaged in minority appeasement politics and abusing and hurting Hindu sentiments.

Virsavarkar is the soul of Hindu civilization unity. Virsavarkar was carefully removed off from the history by congress party and made cleverly that India belongs to one family and only the one family had fought for India’s independence.

The immature and ill-intended attempts of the dynast to capture the claps of the audience and prove that he is the first to come up with certain facts are actually backfiring at his political wisdom and proving his ignorance and lack of any idea.

In politics it is not ‘mundiri-k-kottai’ behaviour, clear leadership, vision, wisdom and decency are needed. Opposing someone just for the sake of opposing should not be followed in politics but must follow some prudent logic to oppose or differ.

The question is how long the dynast shall remain kidult or kadult in Indian politics. How long the congress party is going to carry the baggage called pariwar and going to ruin its relevance.

The sepals that protect the flower bud in the beginning gets removed when the flower is about to blossom and the beautiful petals too gets removed when the fruit is about to emerge. Therefore what was important and essential yesterday need not be continued today and hence it must be removed and discarded to move forward in tune with changing time. Before people of India make India congress mukt, congress must free itself from the burden of one family, must have Ganga snan so that congress shall exist at least as sixth finger in Indian politics.

People of India are with Modi because people want development, corruption free governance, governance free from dynastic politics and nepotism and sab ka vikas. To become God or Godly, one must follow God and spiritual path. Similarly the congress party must follow Modi, respect him and support him and only then congress party can gain some level of credibility.

Accurate data capture reason and Global Hunger India (GHI), stop politics and support the development initiatives of PM Modi

0

The recent Global Hunger India (GHI) has shown that India needs to do much more to alleviate poverty and malnourishment as the problem is growing due to growing population.

Ever since Narendra Modi came to power, most of the government institutions have started to function with greater autonomy, responsibility and accountability. But the situation was not the same before 2014.

India was down with shame and global humiliation due to several corruption and scam allegations against UPA1 and UPA2 and among those scams, 2G ranks the top.

PM Modi won an absolute majority both in 2014 and again in 2019 because he promised transparent, sab ka vikas centric, development oriented government. As promised, PM Modi governed India for the first time since independence where the governance was free of corruption and scam. Modi’s government is the first and only government not tainted by any allegations of corruption or nepotism or dynastic political interferences. Merit, good governance, honesty and development of all were the goals and objectives of the government.

The GHI is evaluated based on the data generated in India on various aspects like how many children below, say 1 year are fed with nourished food, infant mortality, malnourishment etc.  Most of the data are generated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Ever since Modi came to power, data collection has become very robust and accurate whereas most of the government departments were functioning only symbolically during congress period (before 2014) and the data generated during those years might not be accurate or could have been fudged and falsified. But Modi demands data accuracy and truth because only when the data is accurate and the officials share facts the way they are with utmost honesty, government can initiate several focused programmes to address the problems that our country face.

But before 2014, India was governed by dynastic forces which were interested only politics of minority appeasement, nepotism, corruption and kickbacks and fooling the people thorough political rhetoric. But PM Modi always go for ground facts, analyse them threadbare, understand its origin, consult the experts and then brings out a solution. PM Modi attempts to solve the problem forever and would never try to fix the problem for the time being like congress party. The best examples are abrogation of article 370, Triple talaqu, anti-terrorism bill etc.

The opposition parties take enormous pleasure in comparing India with Pakistan to demean India. How much fudging of the data would have happed while sharing the details for calculating GHI by Pakistan, do we need to ascertain at all? Pakistan even denies bluntly its role in funding and training cross boarder terrorism so how can we believe the data provided by such country called Pakistan for calculating the GHI ranking?

There is no doubt; Modi has to do lot more to India because after independence i.e., from 1947 till 2014 virtually no governance or transformation has happened in India except looting money from public exchequer. Therefore Modi has to take India to the present day and only then India can be taken to the new level of growth.

Only from the year 2014 onwards, millions and millions of poor people have started to get cooking gas connection, toilet facility, drinking water facility, bank account, proper house etc. Before 2014, the poor people could only dream of all those basic amenities otherwise the congress government has kept all those basic amenities as luxury items for poor people.

Modi being born in a poor family and him worked as tea seller in his early days, he could sense the pain and agony of poor people and hence did all round transformation in India. Due to political diversity and division due to several tukde tukde regional forces, central government finds it difficult to implement several of its schemes. The best example is how Mamata Banerjee has stopped the health insurance programme of Modi in West Bengal due to petty politics that people may support Modi instead of TMC if such programme were implemented in the state. People’s welfare and wealth is the goal of Modi but most of the opposition parties are playing dirty politics by neglecting the interest of the state and its people who elected them to power.

All the supporters of Narendra Modi are happy with the fact that the government has to work hard to address the problem of hunger on war footing. Whenever a problem that plagues the nation is taken to the attention of Modi, it is certain that the problem would be addressed instantaneously. Therefore Indians should be happy to note that by next year, Indian will be excluded from the list of countries that ranks high in GHI.

The big question before our nation is will the same opposition parties and the so called intellectuals show grace and magnanimity to praise Modi next year when India addresses the problem of hunger and malnourishment effectively.

Every patriot and missionary of good and corruption free governance of Modi must educate people in the society about the meaning and context of GHI and how the transparent and honest governance has brought such data and how important is such data for Modi to address the problem from its root. Modi supporters should not yield even an iota of space for the all those negative forces to confuse innocent people in the society and attract them towards all those negative forces. More than the work done during election period, Modi supporters must work these days continuously to create awareness in the society so that people are always with Modi and not with the negative forces.

Honest government by a noble leader need no opposition. God and divinity to exist, we don’t need ghost and devil because God comes only to destroy all the evil forces. Support Modi to make India a great country.
