The anatomy of student protests

0

In the good old days, newspaper headlines carried opinions and protests carried out by opposition leaders. These have now been replaced by slogans and demonstrations by hitherto unknown Student Union leaders and before we can memorize the name of even one of them, a new one crops up. To understand this tectonic shift in Indian polity, it is important to understand two concepts- the history of student politics and the meaning of the term “ecosystem”.

One of the first student unions and organized social movements was started by Dada Bhai Nowrojee in the year 1848. Student organizations played an important part in Non Co-operation and Quit India movements as well. Dale Carnegie, in his book, “How to Win Friends and Influence People” writes that the key to impress people is genuineness, which was the characteristic of pre independence student protests. Students were ideal as soldiers of the independence movement because, compared to the general masses; they were more qualified to understand British exploitation making them more receptive to the nationalist message. Almost all protests were nationalist in nature and not centered on an individual leader. Post-independence, student unions started having political affliations, with a purpose to provide youth muscle and new talent to the parties. Most of the student protests were localised in nature like the Naxalite movement or the Chippko movement. Anti-Mandal protests remain one of the few pan national movements. Things changed significantly with the onset of the new millennium.

An ecosystem is essentially a social system that replenishes and nourishes elements of society conducive to a particular ideology. Mythologically it could be explained by 2 examples. First is the famous “Gurukul” system, wherein an individual had to go through the rigors of training which helped him achieve his maximum potential and made him ready to lead the society. This system required lots of investment, produced one or few leaders at a time and took years of perseverance. On the flipside, the leaders produced like Arjuna are of superior quality- highly respectable and worthy.

The second example of an ecosystem is a famous story of the demon “Rakhtabeej”. The legend goes that he had a boon, by which he could clone a copy of himself from every drop of his blood that would be shed on the ground. This made him near invincible, because whenever he was close to being killed he would simply flood the battlefield with copies of himself duplicated from drop of his blood. Such an ecosystem can simply create any number of leaders out of nowhere to help itself survive. This requires minimal effort by the ecosystem, the leaders produced are expendable (since new ones can be readily created), and it can frustrate the enemy purely by numbers. However, there is a compromise on quality and leaders fail to garner respect and affection of society at large. In modern times, organizations like RSS constitute the former, while Media is representative of the later.

Ecosystem has always nurtured student politics and this took a new turn in 2012 when the Anna Movement rocked the nation. Many educated people and students joined the agitation against corruption of UPA II. This movement had the proverbial Dale Carnegie “Genuineness” to it, till it took a political turn later. In UPA II, the Gandhi family had weakened and become vulnerable, Rahul Gandhi and his famed capability had become well known. The fall of the original leader, thus, pushed media into an overdrive to generate newer leaders and opposition. Success of Anna agitation further emboldened the ecosystem and soon, opposition leaders gave way to student leaders of a select few universities; campus agitations replaced parliamentary debates. They made it student vs Modi, so that inefficiency of the opposition could be camouflaged. Now people talk more about campus slogans, than about the inability of Rahul Gandhi to counter PM Modi on any front. Over the past few years, Media created Hardik Patel, Kanhaiyya, Umar Khalid and many more, reminding us of Rakhtabeej.

Most of the student leaders have WhatsApp groups of media persons and all they need to do is write one message that suits the opposition agenda, and in no time, will it be broadcasted across all media platforms and the said student leader shall occupy news space for few hours to days. The publicity granted depends on how much the student leader is willing to bend as per the media’s agenda.

Now, unlike previous protests, these protests are failing. Firstly, they lack genuineness or sometimes even a rational reason. Hence, we often see the protest shifting from Anti NRC to Anti 370 or Azaadi. Second is the inherent defect in “Rakhtabeej” ecosystem -lack of quality of leadership. Neither Hardik Patel nor Kanhaiyya has ever spelt out their economic vision for the country, their plans on improving banking sector etc. Thirdly, their appeal is urbanized and limited to same couple of universities. Unlike, Chipko or Naxalite movement which dealt more with rural and real issues, their demands of “azaadi” are too abstract and irrelevant for major part of our society. They have never provided any real solutions which the rural folks can connect with. Fourthly, the issues and the leaders change so rapidly, that they fail to hold attention. Moreover, he ecosystem cannot afford to continue with one topic for long, since too many leaders are being created and all need to be accommodated. Lastly, the protests are largely discredited, due to their association with the “Tukde Tukde” gang and support from across the border.

Having been a part of and even led quite a few Resident Doctors’ protests, I realized that media provides coverage as long as an anti-government protest is going on. The movement the protest ends, no media tries to cover the aftermath or result of government promises. It is quite notable that Central Trade Unions’ nationwide strike on the 8th of Jan, was completely overshadowed by a campus fight in JNU.

We must remember that Taliban movement in Afghanistan too started as a student movement. In the final fight with Rakhtabeej, Goddess Kali ensured that he is killed without a drop falling on the ground. Can today’s Demons be tackled similarly? Can there be a Kali today?

The solution is complex and requires a deeper understanding. There are five players in these game- common voters, ruling government, opposition, Media and attention hungry student leaders. The first three players are bounded by democracy and electoral compulsions. If voters are convinced about cause of the protests, they would vote for the opposition; if they are not, they continue voting for the ruling BJP. In a marketing sense, voters are the consumers here. Media and student leaders are not dependent on voters; rather they are inter-dependent on each other.

Media makes an unknown student leader famous and in return gets TRP. Here is where problem gets complex. Although the target of their masters is voters, they have nothing to do with the popular opinion and can continue their exercise, even if voters keep punishing the opposition. In the current scenario, a demoralized and demotivated opposition has little to lose with these protests and are better off hoping that somehow it could change its current political predicament.

Job of the government is to ensure that law and order is maintained, come what may. So, the buck stops with the common folks to transform into Kali and ensure that publicity, which is their “Drop of Blood” is cut off. We must stop reacting and trending them on social media, avoid watching the media houses which exclusively support them, avoid indulging in online debates with anarchists and instead, try debating them more face to face. The Government should curb financial irregularities, if any, carried out by the owners and promoters of media houses. University administrations must ensure that campus rules are not breached and strict disciplinary action is initiated against the miscreants.

Lastly, we need to understand this new political warfare involving our college campuses (whose primary purpose was education). Nationalist individuals within these campuses should take initiative and counter this propaganda on every platform available within and outside the campuses. We must always remember that the darkness of propaganda is always defeated by the light of truth.

Ugly side of CAA protest in Shaheen Bagh, support Modi, save India

0

Human history has clearly shown that Adharma, Aneedhi, lies, hatred and negativity have never won nor had made the sponsor of all those evil activities strong and invincible. We have sufficient examples for the above in our epic texts such as Ramayana and Mahabharat.

The CAA protest in Shaheen Bagh is an experiment of certain evil charmers who with wicked goals in mind, sponsor several anti-social elements to voice against India, abuse corruption and scam free governance of Modi, break law and order in the name of democratic right to protest and conduct dharna.

We, the Indians must reflect the Shaheen Bagh protect from the perspective of how Lord Vishnu in human form– Lord Krishna and Lord Ram had defeated both Ravan and Kamsa who sponsored Maricha, Subahhoo and Tadaka respectively to kill Lord Ram and Krishna.

Ravan sponsored Maricha and Subahoo to trap Sita, the wife of Lord Ram and finally all of them viz., Maricha, Subahoo and Ravan himself got killed by Lord Ram. Similarly Kamsa too used Tadaka to kill Lord Krishna. But finally both Tadaka and Kamsa himself got killed by Lord Krishna.

Never in the history or in mythology of any culture has ever described the victory of an evil force. Nowhere in the world, evil forces or negativity or hate mongering have ever tasted victory at the end.

The CAA protest in Shaheen Bagh is the best example of the re-enactment of Maricha, Subhahoo or Tadaka. The important point is that Indians should realize all those tukde tukde gangs that sponsor Shaheen Bagh protest are nothing but Ravan and Kamsa who at any cost wants to get rid of Lord Krishna and Lord Ram.

Today Modi stands tall; he represents honesty and integrity in public life, saviour of poor and under privileged, missionary of India’s development and sab ka vikas. Because of Modi, most of the corrupt opposition parties have gone amok, hopeless and shattered.

The political future of all those who oppose Modi- the symbol of honesty and divinity look bleak and irrelevant in India. Further most of the opposition parties are nothing but family establishments, revolve around one family, a club of sycophants and paid servants of the respective families. All these dynastic parties want to promote corruption, kickbacks, nepotism and dynastic politics. Therefore all those dynasts in Indian politics want to defeat Modi and BJP and only then, they can bring back the rule of corruption and scams in India.

All those corrupt forces are now trying to sponsor certain anti-social elements to organize protests in Shaheen Bagh on daily basis with the hope that the image and reputation of Modi can be damaged. All those conglomerate of negativity and corruption has not yet realized the bitter truth that negativity shall never win. If they had read our Indian mythology and epics like Ramayana and Mahabharat where the evil charmers like Ravan and Kamsa had never won against Lord Vishnu by sponsoring Maricha, Subahoo or Tadaka.

The intent and actions of Modi are pure, honest and the governance of Modi is centering on development, sab ka vikasa and corruption free, stable government. On the contrary, those who oppose and fight against Modi are banquet of corrupts, looters of India and promoters of dynastic politics and nepotism. For all those who oppose Modi wants nothing but own family to develop and have enough space to loot the country and destroy India.

Indians must clearly associate all those who oppose Modi and engaged in protest theatrics at Shaheen Bagh against CAA are nothing but Ravan and Kamsa or their representatives. Therefore Indians should remain firm and must pledge their unconditional support to Modi to save India from all those corrupt forces and fear mongers.

How important is to support Modi so important is to defeat all those dynastic forces and fear mongers. By supporting Modi without decomposing all those negative forces from Indian politics, we can’t save India. Every Indian must find some extra time to spread the positive message of Modi and how Modi has transformed India and uplifted the life of poor and under privileged through various path breaking schemes and initiatives.

Modi, Amit Shah and BJP alone can save India and ensure sab ka vikas and not those blood thirsty leeches. Let us work for India, let us support Modi and let us save India.

Jai Hind.

Shaheen Bagh

0

There have been lot of articles on what is going on at Shaheen Bagh. In this article I would like to point out some opinions which people may already have but may have some trouble putting it out on social media.

Shaheen Bagh protest is not a misguided movement to fight for the Constitution or against CAB or NRC. It is a movement to try and establish an Islamic state in India, or an experiment to try and do it. There are many reasons to have this opinion. First of all their so called “war-cry”, “La illahi illah la”, which literally translates to “There is no God but Allah” and how most of the famous protesters justified this war-cry by insinuating that it is a symbol of secularism somehow.

My question is this, what has Allah got to do with our constitution? What has Allah got to do with CAA or NRC? If they were so worried about constitution, regardless of religion and if they were truly secular they would not have made the Islamic prayer as their war-cry. They literally have made a no go zone right here in our capital city where someone who doesn’t support their ideology can’t even enter. We saw this happened to one journalist before and now we saw it happening to Gunja Kapoor.

Republic TV reporter was hounded out. They want publicity, don’t they? Then why they are not letting these people enter? What is going on there that is so secretive that it cannot be freely broadcast? What cause is so important that women are ready to sacrifice their children? Students leaving their routine college and parents being ok with it? Wives leaving homes to sit on protest all day? Yes we could think this is their stupidity and ignore it, which might actually be a possibility too, given the kind of arguments their propagandists make. But what if this is an experiment as in my opinion the prime minister hinted at?

My opinion is we who call ourselves nationalists and Hindus in particular should be vary of this protest and keep an eye on all those who are allowed to enter. They seem to have some dangerous designs and testing the reactions of the country to this. It will be interesting to see what happens to these protests after Delhi election, so that we get to know whether this had a political angle as well.

What Budget 2020-21 means to common citizen

0

If the heavy economic/financial jargon is set apart (that is usually found in newspaper articles), in very simplistic terms the Budget 2020-21 presented by Union Finance Minister, Smt Nirmala Sitaraman (on 01-02-2020) in the parliament, was a liberal one. By reducing the corporate tax to 15% to the new companies and 22% to the already existing ones, there is a scope for expansion of business and creation of jobs (unless there are no other bureaucratic hurdles in the way).

Similarly, personal income tax reduction puts more money into the pockets of the middle classes. There are many schemes provided for in the budget that would benefit farmers, workers and below the poverty line sections through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of money into their bank accounts. This way, the business people, the middle classes and the deprived classes will have money in their hands to spend. So, this will result in fueling the economy.

However, there’s another view that goes contrary to it in economists circles and the opposition. A section of economists including Abhijit Benerjee, the Noble laureate, who say, instead of this diversification of money, it is better if the government pools the money by way of higher taxes and spends meaningfully on infrastructural projects creating jobs to many. This is in a way a Communist ideology.

In capitalist countries, for e.g USA, they favour low taxes. The reason is: if the government taxes heavily, the money goes to government coffers and it gets accumulated in it. So, with the massive fund at its disposal, the government of the day becomes responsible for all the decisions it takes for investing it. Some decisions of the government may turn out to be good and some may prove catastrophic. Hence, the government owning money is a centralised process. No one would like the government accumulating all the capital (money collected by way of very heavy taxation). For, it tends to call shots. So, therefore, instead of all money going into government hands, it is better to go into diversified fields: corporates and to the needy people to spend, as they would deem fit.

As a matter of fact, a single agency/processor ( i. e the government) makes a wrong decision that would be disastrous to the whole country. Whereas, if the money is with the corporates, if one of which takes a wrong decision the other will capitalise on that. That way, there will be checks and balances. That’s what is called a free-market economy. In Communist countries, the government controls the money. In those countries, it is said, people work according to their abilities and get remuneration as per their needs.

Now, in this budget 2020-21, the government has given money into the hands of the people, as it perceived that there is a consumption crisis i.e people are not buying and eating more as they have very little or no money in their pockets. Spending money more and more on buying things by people indicates ‘demand’ (for those things). This demand would lead to increase in manufacturing. That would, in turn, fuel industrial growth. However, to ensure this demand and supply chain to pick up, one has to wait and watch. For, the finance minister has not opened up free- market for the consumer to buy goods at cheaper rates. By laying heavy important tariffs on finished products from abroad, it barred their entry into the country. This is all to encourage domestic market. In a free-market scenario, the customer has the choice. In India, the situation is different. The MSMEs are in a crisis, as they were badly affected by the imposition of multi-layered GST to a large extent and to earlier demonetisation. So as to boost their prospects and employability to many people, this measure is presumed to have been taken.

As per the reduced import tariffs on the raw material, the corporates are getting them cheaper from other countries. The benefit the corporates get that way, they should transfer to the consumer also by selling the finished products at cheaper/ affordable rates to boost the demand. There is an opinion among the many educated Indians that the businessmen are too much pampered in our country. That’s in two ways: one by lower import tariffs to get raw industrial materials cheaply. Two: by not opening up the markets to the world players so that the consumers have their choice. Hence, there should be a level playing field for the demand and supply chain.

On the whole, the budget is a very generous one. The government has proposed 112 medical colleges on PPP basis to reduce shortage of doctors, allocations were made to fulfill the PM’s desired project: to give piped water to all Indian homes, abolition of Dividend Distribution Tax (DDT), for consumers an affordable low-end housing, consumer – durables and automobiles, Krishi Uddan and also cold-storage trains for farmers to quickly move their perishables to market. In addition to that, higher education institutions that will start with apprenticeship-embedded degree/ diploma courses by March 2021 to boost job opportunities for general stream students. FDI opened for higher education. Above all, a Tax Charter for taxpayers’ benefit, buying of Indian Bonds in Foreign Industry – FRBM Act. So, all in all, the Budget 2020, though a lengthy one, covers many.

Amazon’s Forgotten Army Review: An initiation for anyone who credits the Congress for ridding India of the British

0

A little over two years after Alt Balaji chose “Bose: Dead or Alive”, a web-series based on the mysterious disappearance of Netaji, to headline its launch, we have Amazon invoking his towering persona again for its Republic Day release — The Forgotten Army: Azaadi Ke Liye. Kabir Khan, whose documentary film-making prowess shines through in the series, dusts-off a subject with which he made his film-making debut in 1999. Khan adapts it for the medium appreciably well while fashioning two crafty tales set half a century apart in time.

The story begins in 1990’s Singapore where an old man suffering from visible PTSD accompanies his grand-nephew to Burma for his journalism internship. Only it turns out, this is not the first time he is making this journey. The action then moves onto 1940s Singapore. Here the British commander helming a numerically superior force comprising an Allied force of Indian and Australian troops, surrenders to a Japanese invasion, but not before dismissing the same threat when suggested by Indian captain and our chief protagonist Captain Sodhi. Remarkable in Kabir Khan’s recreation of WW2 front in the South East Asia are the well-shot sequences of trench warfare in the Jungles of Malaya peninsula, which are head and shoulders above of anything we have seen before on Indian screens, small or big (Cough…Vishal Bhardwaj’s Rangoon…Cough). As the Indian soldiers are taken prisoners, we are accorded a fleeting glimpse of General Mohan Singh as the leader of the first Indian National Army. As someone who was first introduced to the real-life characters of the INA as schoolboy while reading Hugh Toye’s The Springing Tiger from my father’s library, I would have preferred more named characters being brought to life in Khan’s realistic depictions, but I believe we already have the series’ documentary namesake for that.

What is nicely integrated though in these first few episodes is interspersion of historical footage for some iconic moments like the Aerial bombing of Singapore and INA’s first march into the city. The city of Singapore itself is brilliantly recreated with its Victorian architecture and you are convinced that you are in 1940s “Pearl of the Orient” overran with enterprising Indians — a depiction consistent with the reality of strong overseas Indian mercantilism before it was destroyed by the inward looking Nehruvian economics. The portrayal of a thriving Indian community reminding one of the well-researched works of Sanjeev Sanyal and Amitav Ghosh, along with the use of Tamil, Bengali, Japanese and Burmese toungues by people of the respective nationalities instead of accented Hindi serves as the litmus of authenticity for me.

It is from this community of Indians, that we find rest of our lead characters — a Tamil street performer who has never set foot in India (Badree), a young hobbyist photographer from an affluent family (Maya), and a plantation worker exploited by her British master (Rasamma). They are joined by Captain Sodhi and Arshad (whose characters appear based on Colonel Prem Sahgal and General Shah Nawaz) in their transformation into a highly motivated bunch of nationalists. This transformation is brilliantly shown with almost two episodes dedicated to flesh out different characters and detail their journeys from being the militias loyal to Crown to being galvanized into a force that triggers global decolonization. We are treated with brilliant exchanges between the characters talking about the British ploy of exploiting the caste fault lines with their martial races doctrine and raising the first ever woman regiment of the world, that culminates into heart wrenching scenes when Badree first sets foot on the soil of India.

The subsequent episodes do a great job of depicting the extreme hardships faced by the soldiers as the Japanese supply lines start stretching thin followed by heroic scenes of urban warfare what purportedly is Kohima after the Stalingrad of The East.

As excitably as I am penning this review down, there is a lot that us right-wingers will find missing in the series. Kabir Khan is extremely generous to the multiple dispensations in the free India as he avoids naming and shaming those responsible for depriving the INA soldiers of recognition or even their due pensions, in either the epilogue or the running voice-overs by Shah Rukh Khan. A mention of Gandhi’s last venture — the Quit India Movement — which failed miserably in its objective should have been made, when Khan rightfully credits the Naval revolt for driving the final nail in the Raj’s coffin. Although we see frequent invocation of Netaji’s name in the series, the viewer isn’t even told that he had to create his own party and leave India due to an uncooperative Gandhi and an insecure Nehru.

But credit where’s due, Kabir Khan tells an important story that needed to be told. Even if only in the epilogue, the viewers are told how the Red Fort trials backfired and almost turned into a second sepoy mutiny. Netaji’s thousands of foot soldiers managed to instill a sense of nationalism in India that the discredited Congress leaders and an ageing Gandhi could not have managed in 1940s India. Congress’ lawyerism and politics could not achieve in decades what these INA soldiers did in a matter of months —they turned not only the public opinion but also the armed forces loyalties on its head and forced the Raj to beat hasty retreat from the corridors of Delhi.

While the list of omissions can be expanded further, for now I will count my blessings for receiving a binge-worthy show after Netflix’s disappointing collaborations with Anurag Kashyaps and Zoya Akhtars of the world, as I revel in the exhilaration of this brilliantly made series while humming the shows uplifting anthem “Mere Watan” composed by Pritam.

How Muslim population is gradually becoming a threat to constitutional rights

0

All India Muslim Personal Law Board filed a petition in supreme court in Nikah Halala case last week and stated that Mohammedan laws are derived from Quran and Hadith and it’s validity cannot be tested on the basis of fundamental rights given by the constitution of India. Before further discussion on this topic, let’s see what good things AIMPLB has done in recent past.

  • AIMPLB opposed the prevention of child marriage act, 2006 stating that their religion gives them freedom to marry with anyone and insisted that in family matters the country’s Muslims should be subject only to Islamic law.
  • AIMPLB opposed the Right of children for free and compulsory education act, 2009
  • In 2015, AIMPLB declared a fight against vedic culture and Hindu religion.
  • AIMPLB opposed the criminalization of Triple Talaq Law, 2019.

There are many acts of this Islamic organization but the above acts are sufficient to discuss our topic. In the name of religious freedom, how can an organization oppose the parliament and the constitution? Even If your religion allows you to become a paedophile, you cannot continue your filthy acts in name of religious freedom.By  establishing this organization, congress gave birth to a curse in Indian society. Later in Shah Bano case, by reversing the court’s order, the congress government had shown it’s clear intentions where they are leading the country. If an organization says that It doesn’t follow fundamental rights given by the constitution then how come this organization isn’t declared illegal?

In the recent anti-CAA protests, muslims are foul crying over an issue which clearly isn’t related to them. They say that they want to save the constitution but they also say that they don’t believe in the fundamental rights given by the constitution. Now let’s come to Mohammedan laws. In chapter 9 of quran they openly talk about killing non-muslims, raping non-muslim women and validate many heinous crimes. Now if Islam is openly advocating for killing the followers of other religion then how come Islam isn’t banned in India which calls itself a secular country. In 1990s Kashmir has witnessed what Muslims can do to other people and Today we are watching West Bengal turn into Kashmir of 90s slowly.

Anywhere in the world, if Muslim population is even half of the total population, they want Islamic rules to be implemented. India has seen partition once. They took lands on the name of religion and then remained in our soil as bacteria so that they can turn it into a hell for other religions  when they will be in good numbers. Anti-CAA protests, petition of AIMPLB and Writing of Islamic slogans on Indian national flags show the intentions of Indian Muslims what they are going to do in future. They will kill Hindus in Azaad Maidan when Rohingyas will be assaulted in Myanmar, they will kill Hindus in India when Ottoman Empire will fall. They will kill Hindus in India whenever anything bad happens to Muslims in any part of the world. They will welcome illegal Muslim immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar and stage Jihad for their protection, but they will say that they are saving the constitution and remember that AIMPLB is advocate of Islamic rules which result into this.

Indian government and people of India specially Hindus should start thinking about the time 100 years from today. As a Hindu I will never want my children to face atrocities of Islam. Choose your policies wisely. Choose your government wisely.Always remember that existence is more important than freebies given by pro-Islamic governments. May lord Ram save you from the evil souls.
