NRC the need of the day.. implement or perish

0

Though government is spending crores of money on various schemes , there are no ways to check how much of the amount is actually reaching them. Prime minister Narendra modi said of one rupee spent on schemes only 15 paisa is reaching the needy. This has put a seed on thought of government to start a programme AADHAR which means Foundation and help the poor in a better way by using the technology to deliver the schemes and services. Also former planning commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia proposed 1% of cost to be spent on tracking and monitoring.

Identity is not a problem in India itself and its haunting lot of countries in the world. There are about 68.5 million people who are forcefully displaced world wide by 2017 and 1 billion people are legally invisible. One of the sustainable development goal 16.9 as per United Nations by 2030 is to have legal identity for everyone by 2030.Many countries have national identiity cards which is necessary to be benefited by government schemes. For example a small country like Kenya isssues ID cards based on birth certificate and people also needs further documentation like parents and grandparents birth and other records which is been followed for long. In 2003 Atal bihari vajpayeee government launched a pilot project in new delhi to give ID cards to the residents, which was the first pavement for starting NPR and NRC.

Aadhar: Aadhar and NPR considered rival projects. These two were considered under the UPA government ; NPR was under union home minister, P. Chidambaram and Aadhar under Union Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee. Both of them were pushing these two records, almost both are duplication of the same documents. Aadhar will be used for welfare services and NPR for governance. Later Adhar was made compulsory to get benefits of various social schemes. Aadhar is made compulsory to get benefits of 11 education-related state schemes in Maharashtra. Central programme Apka Paisa Aapke Haath is direct cash transfer and is aadhar based. Aadhar is also been used in SEBI for mutual funds, brokerage and capital market entities. Recently bank accounts are aadhar linked. NPR linked with census in 2010 and aadhar was made compulsory to be linked with NPR in 2015. Aadhar Panlink compulsory from July,1 2017.

NPR and NRC History:
The three laws which decide citizenship of a person are the citizenship act of 1955, The foreigners act of 1946 and the Passport Act of 1920.India doesn’t have a law to define refugee and hence every non citizen living in India becomes an infiltrator like Tibetians, Srilankan Tamils, Rohingya muslims etc..As there is no law , we don’t have accurate estimate of number of illegal immigrants residing in India and it’s the duty of Foreigners act to identify and detain them. Following the attacks in Kargil,1999 a Kargil review committee suggested the need of ID cards to detect the citizens as there are people with fake Passport cards. Based on this committee review and a report of Group of ministers (GoM)in 2000 felt necessary to issue 2 types of cards with different colours one for citizens and other for illegal immigrants . The GoM recommendations were accepted in 2001. This led the then BJP led government to amend the citizenship amendment act in 2003, wherein section 14 A was inserted which deals with issuing multipurpose national identity cards (MPNIC).

According to section 14 A “the central government may compulsorily register every citizen of India and issue a National Identity card to him”. It also says ” the central government may maintain a National register of Indian citizens and for that purpose establish a National registration authority”. Also the importance of this was more strained after the Mumbai attack in 2008 and the government felt the need to delineate the citizens of India . From 2003-2009 pilot projects were conducted in selected border areas ( around 31 lakh people spread over 11 states and one union territory) to determine the methodology to implement the issuing of MPNIC. Under UPA government 2006, a National Roll out of MNIC was decided by committee of secretaries (coS) but later said it was cumbersome and suggested to go with NPR and citizenship card programme was stopped. By then 12 lakh people got the MNPIC.

From 2009-2011, the NPR is conducted in coastal areas and 66 lakh resident cards issued. Aadhar was started in 2009 (UIDAI) to determine the beneficiary of the government schemes. A nation wide NPR conducted in 2010 along with houselisting phase of census of 2011. It was further updated in 2015 by door to door survey. NPR needs demographic and biometric data. Biometric data to be obtained from aadhar, there are additional questions and other details like driving license number, mobile number, PAN card, driving licence, voter card and passport which are included and are optional .The details recorded in initial census of 1872 is not the same now. It is usual to upload any newer records into the portal and it should not be seen on a decisive manner as in the present day the opposition sees for the above updated NPR.

NRC:
It is supposed to be started Pan-India after freedom which has not been done and was done initially in 1951 in Assam. Initial NRC found 1 to 1.5 million (12-18%) of the total population were immigrants. Because of initial transmission of people from both the countries immediately after partition it would have been difficult. But later on it should have been streamlined by the government which was not be done. NRC is considered legal in Assam because as a British colony because of huge influx of people from east Pakistan for the natural resources and labour to Assam. The then chief minister, freedom fighter Gopinath mondolai has strictly implemented the first NPC. It becomes the duty of the further governments to continue the same but has been neglected for votes and even illegal immigrants were been encouraged and given ration and voter cards.

After liberalisation of east Pakistan after 1971 war, Bangladesh remained secular till 1979 and later on turned to an Islamic state. This led to huge migration of persecuted minorities from Bangladesh to Assam and also others used to migrate to gain the authority over the natural resources. The north eastern states under 6th schedule of constitution and those under inner line permit have given special status and people from other areas are not allowed to settle down there to protect their ethnicity. They formed autonomous councils which allowed indigenous communities to govern themselves. The state of Assam was reorganised and has three territorial autonomous district councils (Bodoland, Dima Hasao, and Karbi Anglong) along with 6 non-territorial councils. To curtail immigration, in 1962 the prevention of infiltration from Pakistan scheme was introduced, the aim of which was to identify and deport infiltrators by assam police. Later in 1964, the Foreigners tribunal order was passed enabling local state officials to deal with undocumented migration.

For appeasement and encouraging the immigrants the then government has not revised NRC after 1951 and also the PIP scheme was ended in 1969 by Bimala Prasad Chaliha. Renaissance of NRC came after the by-election held in Mangaldai constituency after the death of Hiralal Patowary, an MP, in 1979. Election commission of India announced there were more than 40,000 fake voters list prior to the by-election. This led to Assam agitation with civic unrest the government of India enacted the Illegal Migrants (Determination) Tribunal (IMDT) Act in 1983. It created trouble for both indigenous and immigrant people in view of documentation.

The act was passed by Indira Gandhi with an aim to protect the illegal migrants who have come after 1971 after Nellie massacre where around 3000 minorities were killed. The Nellie Massacre occurred after Indira Gandhi’s decision to give right to vote for 40 lakh illegal immigrants and is one of the worst pogrom. It was applicable only to Assam and in the rest of India the Foreigners ACT is used to deploy illegal immigrants. But as the agitation was later ended in 1985 by ASSAM accord signed between Rajiv Gandhi (then Prime Minister of India) and representatives of the All Assam Gana Sangram Parishad (AAGSP) and All Assam Students Union (AASU).

Assam accord clause 5 says that foreigners who came to Assam after 1.1.1966 upto 24th march 1971 shall be decided in accordance with provisions of the Foreigners act 1946 and foreigners tribunal order 1964. In Assam accord clause 8 says “The government will arrange for the issue of citizenship certificates in future only by the authorities of the central government”. NRC updation of 1985 as per assam accord includes those persons who appear in NRC 1951 will be included and any one in electoral rolls upto midnight 24 march, 1971 or any one with 12 documents issued before 24 march 1971. Asom gana Parishad(AGP) the byproduct of assam agitation made Prafulla Kumar mahanta as the youngest CM but he could not keep up the promises of implementing assam accord and NRC.

There were talks for many times between the centre, state and student leaders to finalise how to implement NRC. In April 6, 1998, Atal bihar vajpayee the then prime minister after the talks , the minutes of meeting released states that ” There is a need for list of citizens of Assam as on 25-03-1971 to be based on 1971 electoral rolls. Assistance to be taken from previous electoral rolls and 1951 national register of citizens. Names and details of persons residing in Assam as per 1991 census to be made public. This is to be taken up with the Registrar general of India”. It was not though of later until kargil war when government under BJP instigated the need of NRC and amended the citizenship act in 2003.

In December 2004, under Manmohan Singh in power, section 14A in the citizenship act, 1955 compelling registration for every citizen in India came to effect. In 2005, Manmohan Singh led UPA government had a tripartite agreement (2005) between Govt. of India, Govt. of Assam (Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi of congress) and AASU with a proposal to complete NRC in next 2 years with assembly elections due in 2006. The minutes of meeting stated “Chief minister of Assam said that state government had agreed to update 1951 NRC by including names of persons from the electoral rolls upto 1971 and their descendants. He said that all the efforts would be made to complete the work in two years after which identity cards will be issued”. Though congress came to power for pilot NRC was not started until 2010 where a pilot NRC started in Chaygaon and Barpeta was aborted due to violence created by AAMSU. NRC was again stopped because of appeasement politics by congress.

One side AASU asking for regular basis NRC and on the other side AAMSU opposing it. other important organisation Assam Public works (APW), which came to existence in year 2000 started to fight for NRC. They filed a petition(WP (c) 279/2009) demanding NRC, which led the supreme court to order NRC , which led congress government led Assam to monitor the process of NRC from april 2013, and it was concluded in 2019. Initial Draft with names of 3.29 crore applicants didnot include 1.9 crore which was released on December 31, 2017.. Later with modifications, another draft released on July 30, 2018 excluded 40 lakh people . Final draft published on August 31, 2019 excluded 19 lakh population. To further prevent immigration the 1000 kms India-bangladeshi border, a special task force for border surveillance , border protection grid need to be established.

But the process of fencing is done at 26 km per year due to problems in land acquisition and local protests. Another 48.11 kms (riverine border) is completely porous and approximately 50 Bangladeshis enter India every day, to prevent this a special BSF is been planned by increasing manpower.

NRC is the need of the day in present situation wherein lot of illegal migrants have entered the country and its time to a keep a check for this. NPR, census and maintenance of register is required to be done and upgraded regularly.

Shikara 2: The fillum returns (but not Kashmiri Pandits)

0

Disclaimer: I have NOT seen Shikara 1, nor do I even intend ever viewing it. However, I have read Sri Rahul Pandita’s ‘The Moon has Blood Clots‘ – which is a beautifully secular version of what happened to Kashmiri Pandits (KPs) of Kashmir, probably because of, hold your breath, RSS and Hindutva! Buwahahaaaaa! Um, well, mostly. I am exaggerating of course, but dammit, this is suppose to be about a fillum!

But, I must admit that, it was a reasonable book on KPs, but rather kinda filmi. Neither too much of factual content nor completely fictional stuff either. But a page turner, none the less. Also applauded by Rumourchandra Guha types. (there are better books, more authentic ones on KPs – but we are discussing fillums here, dammit!)

But it did not touch and sear my heart, the way Tej Tikoo’s book did. Anyway

-0-0-0-0-

But, as my own humble contribution to highlight the plight of KPs, I do want to outline as to how we can do a sequel which would be even more stellarly politically-correct. With a lot, whole lot more of peace and love. Mush. Melodrama. Good cinematography. Music. Good performances. Immensely entertaining. Hope giving.  In other words, it would be a fillum, not about history so therefore about twistory.

Actually, it could be in the style of a typical Bollywood/Tamil flick – with Secular actors like Kamal Hassan and Kushboo, Secular music director such as AR Rahman and Secular Social Justice Warrior Director such as, whatever, I forget his name. Say, some usual, lousy fillum director from Tamilnadu, specializing in subalternist nonsense and let us just leave it at that, please!

Um… But, would that be Pa Ranjith? Anyway, it could be produced and financed by the stellar DMK leader MK Stalin’s poor son, Udhayanidhi Stalin.

These are my humble suggestions, based on my full reading of the Preamble of Indian Constitution. And because, what better way is there to unite India, than having Southie Dravidians rallying to the support of Northie KPs, eh?

Now, for some highlights for the story treatment of Shikara 2.

First. All human characters would only be based on Kashmiri Pandits. They will be the heroes, villains, lovers, haters, losers, oppressors, oppressed, Hindutva religious fanatics & Islamophobes. All in one. Apart from the main secular actors as recommended above, the rest of the characters will all be played by trained Kangaroos from Perth, Australia, just to avoid possible casting controversies. And, they would still be KPs.

Second: There won’t be any mention or representation of anything else, in terms of human beings. No Muslims would ever be shown. At all. No need. How convenient! But, this a fillum sequel about KPs dammit, not about some secular Muslims! Oh my.

Guns would fire, but who presses the trigger will be left delightfully vague and hazy. There would be eerie and wailing broadcasts from some distant tower like structures adorned with loudspeakers, lost in the swirling mists of space and time, but nothing would be ever decipherable. We will only show some psychotic KPs who would be very illogically terrified at the screeches emitted by towers. (remember the opening sequence of ‘The Shining?’)

A segue-way into a Psychiatrist’s couch, where a drug-addicted paranoid KP would be subjected to therapy. Problem: he hears voices in his head, asking him to convert, die or leave Kashmir – leaving behind his pets, some of which could be his family members. He can also leave behind the ladies in the family. Now, we all know that the secular ‘voice in his head’ is actually doing it in good faith, lest the lady folks are violated in anyway on their way out of Kashmir or exposed to random dangers… But the Shrink thinks otherwise,  because he is also a KP, and he suggests some counter-hallucinogens which create even more intractable unsecular, Hindutva problems.

This KP (taken as a typical one) would then be projected as a morbid guy who, under the effect of substance abuse, hurls abuses, teams up with RSS & assorted Hindutva riff-raff, plots against Islam, schemes against his secular neighbors, spies for Pakistan etc etc. He even tries to tilt at the infernal towers and manages to actually raze one and build a Hindu temple on it, OMG!

After all the mayhem, he even tries to unfurl the Tiranga atop his home, oh my! This gets the goat of his otherwise peaceful, loving, considerate, secular neighbors! They are also goat loving, I must add.

First version in Shikara 1 was a love story. It would get repeated in Shikara 2 as a farce. And, may be finally in Shikara 3, as a tragedy. This KP saga in three parts, will provide a comic relief to the audience from across the country, for sure.

-0-0-0-0-0-

Coming back to the highlights – in the midst of snowflakes angelically descending down, there would be long, lovely & leisurely panning shots of threatening posters & notices – but who plasters and dishes them out will be Kafkaesquely vague. When a zoom-in happens on a representative poster, it would actually be containing the wordings such as ‘Ishwar Allah Tero Naam…’ + with a figure of our beloved frugal Gandhi in the background… This poignant scene would make the audience wonder, as to what exactly was going on in 1980/1990s Kashmir – because everything was apparently so loving with splending displays of the epitomes of brotherhood, sisterhijab and what not, in Kashmir!

…That, surely, KPs were demented criminals who hatched yet again, an elaborate scheme to blame the Kashmiri Muslims for the former’s own self-created problems & strategies for the 100% takeover of Kashmir… would soon dawn on the audience.

In Shikara 2, KPs would of course have secular neighbors, but only their pet dogs and cats would be shown. While secretly going to mainland India to plot against Kashmir, KPs habitually handover their house keys to the aforesaid dogs which will promptly chew them up and/or swallow them. So, there would be no way that KPs could return home. Oh the tragedy.

All the secular neighbors would want amity & peace and hence plead with the KPs to get back home. But the silly KPs, will insist on getting their keys first. But the dogs would have simply vanished in the night along with the keys! Remember that every dog has only its day, not the night. Doggone it. So, the recalcitrant & unruly KPs would have to be tamed and silenced, for their own good, in a secular manner.

In all the confusion, some KP women would of course get gangraped sexually assaulted, it is all their fault oh dear, but it would be the anonymous penises that would do the raping, but the not the whole bodies of the rapists. (Remember? Only guns kill people, people do not kill people!)

That night would belong to long knives… KPs obviously invited the massacre on themselves. Many KPs would be secularly hacked to death, but… yes, you guessed it – it is only the swords which do the cutting and slashing, not people. Amidst the rhythmic chants of ‘There is no life but knife.’ Bullets also do their duty, it is them bad things that kill KPs. Not seculars. Sorry.

Everyone would happily die ever after.  Thanks.

So, the amoral of the story of Shikara 2 would be:

Fillum has no religion, it has only box-office collection.

Amen. Or Masha allah, as the case  may be.

Credits roll along with cut-off heads of KPs. Audience would laugh hysterically.

Curtains.

Inferences from Delhi elections

0

Each election sends a message, particularly for the defeated party to introspect. For, in a liberal democracy the voter is always right. In a parliamentary democracy, the number of seats won matter, rather than the percentage of votes polled. In Delhi assembly elections, Aam Admi Party (AAP) won handsomely 62 out of total 70 seats, not by any innovative idea, but by taking a leaf out of PM- Modi’s own welfare measures that had given a spectacular victory to him in the parliament elections of April 2019.

If democracy is all about: a government of the people, by the people and for the people (as the saying goes by Abraham Lincoln), the deprived down-trodden sections of society should be served with basic minimum facilities like free-electricity (to a certain slab), free-water supply and free-health care. Besides this, free quality education. During the Kings-rule, earlier to democracy, all over the world, the Kings spent much of their revenues to maintain weapons and foot soldiers and also to the Royal luxuries. Education and health care were available to the affluent then, not to the common man.

Ever since, the world nations turned to the democratic system of governance, the deprived sections have been given their due. They (education and health care) are vehicles of progress in any nation. The BJP through its Deen Dayal Upadhayaya’s Anthyodaya Schemes has been serving the last man in the social rung. APP’s social welfare measures viz. Free — Mohalla Clinics, Bijli (electricity), Paani (water), bus services for women worked well with the voters. However, the Central government schemes of PM’s Ayushman Bharat Yojana and other such programs were deliberately put aside by the regional party AAP, in order to get credit entirely for their government. As Delhi being a big Metropolitan City, huge sums of revenue could be generated. So, AAP was able to implement its own schemes.

To the entire process of Delhi elections, the BJP awoke very late. The party was rather complacent, as it won all 7 (seven) parliamentary seats in Delhi, months before, in April 2019. Another reason being, that it had won MCDs (Municipal Corporations of Delhi) in 2017, two- years after the remarkable win of APP in 2015. With this they might have thought that they had contained APP effectively. However, it is not so. For, in a democracy, the survival of a government is the daily plebiscite of people.

Soon after the defeat of APP in 2019 parliamentary elections in Delhi, Punjab and other places, the supreme leader of APP, Aravind Kejriwal became a mellowed person, he learnt lessons and calculated his strengths and weaknesses. He proved himself to be amenable to change. Though, started off his political innings in 2013 with idealpolitik, he, now, changed to realpolitik. Realpolitik is a game, if strategies of the BJP work well in future, the APP could be easily defeated.

Many political pundits cite—the cardinal misstep of the BJP was not to project a local Delhi leader who could match with Aravind Kejriwal. This argument cuts on both ways, like: damn if you do, damn if you don’t. If one’s face is promoted, the other prospective/ aspiring ones may get disheartened. Any local leader has to emerge from the cadre. It’s not a top-down measure. Remember, the experience of last time when Ms Kiran Bedi was announced as the CM’s face for Delhi, how some leaders were hand in glove to defeat.

At the Centre, the PM and the Home Minister were being busy, the local cadre had not done much homework, the MCDs turning blind eye to people’s woes (as reported in media), the last minute preparation didn’t suffice, though it had been a humongous effort on the part of the BJP. By then, APP’s narrative of benevolent welfare programs seeped into the minds and hearts of the poor.

The national issues related narrative taken up by the BJP such as: the Shaheen Bagh’s anti-CAA stir and its implications, they were somewhat not understandable to the poor, as they were more bothered about their daily lives and livelihood. Earlier, airstrikes on Balakot in Pakistan had an impact, as they were moved visually by the death of forty Indian soldiers and their body-bags coming down. They all wanted that retaliation to happen to assuage their feelings. Moreover, many boys from humble back-ground, join as soldiers. So,each mother could feel the pain.

Certain sections of the English media called the BJP campaign for Delhi to be a ‘divisive’ and ‘hate’instigating one. Though agreeing that some leaders went overboard in their campaign, they were in turn, reprimanded by the Election Commissioner. It is always the feelings or beliefs of the voters that make them vote. The leaders should be careful in their wording to get a connect with moderate voters. Of course, rationality as demanded by media, has very little place in the patterns of voting. If only rational people need to vote, many in India or elsewhere in the world, wouldn’t qualify to vote. Feelings of an illiterate maid have a place in elections by way she casts her vote.

Feelings, not only guide voters but their leaders too. In any case, nationalism (taken up by the BJP), is all about how to run a particular nation. In this regard the BJP has its views. To call it by names, is wrong. Xenophobia, the English media often repeats, is the DNA of all humans, in all nations. We like our-kind-of-people over others who are foreign. Hence, Citizenship and immigration to others, who aren’t culturally akin to, is difficult in any nation. Even the West expects the immigrants from other parts of the world to adopt their Western- values.

Truly or tactfully, APP supremo Aravind Kejriwal has started wearing religion on his sleeve. He invoked Hanuman ji (god/deity of Hindus) before elections and paid obeisance after the elections. Is this a copycat move or true devotion, time will tell. Similarly, his slogans : Bharat Mata Ki Jai and Vandemataram. The BJP should be watchful of Shri Aravind Kejriwal and Shri Prasant Kishore and their moves and their national ambitions in the days, months and years to come. Rightly, H.G.Wells says: “If you fell down yesterday, stand up today.”

Congress party of the dynast, the real Emperor Nero in Indian politics

0

More than the AAP celebrating its landslide victory in Delhi assembly election, the congress party of the dynast is in jubilant mood without realizing the truth that the congress party has lost all most all its relevance and vote share in Delhi. But the sycophants of the dynast such as the GREAT Shashi Tharoor claims that BJP has lost the election therefore congress has lots to celebrate at the victory of AAP.

Some sycophant from congress party had even made claims that the party had tactfully withdrawn from the contest to ensure AAP victory and defeat of BJP in Delhi. Congress must realize that BJP has increased its vote share and at the ground level BJP has given tough contest to AAP. BJP although could not win Delhi but has proved that BJP is a force to reckon with in Delhi whereas people shall remember congress party only through the guest appearance the dynast or his mother or his sister in some kitty party in Delhi.

This is the right time for the second coronation of the dynast as the president of congress party because it is the tradition of the congress party that whenever congress party fare badly and distressfully, the dynast is recognized and elevated to the next level in the party. To the surprise, the likelihood of congress vote bank shifted to BJP cannot be ruled out in Delhi because erosion of the vote share of congress and the significant increase in the vote share of BJP reveals only such possibility.

It is mentioned in the history that the Emperor Nero had ordered to set fire to see how Troy would look when it was burned and had watched the event from high tower, playing lyre.

As per the claim of some congress party men, the party had retreated from the contest to favour AAP is like how the Emperor Nero had asked his men to set fire at Troy to watch how does it look. Congress had, like Nero would have decided to burn off completely the congress party in Delhi and the dynast and his sycophants wants to watch the total and complete destruction of congress party from its party headquarter.

It was Aravind Kejriwal who started the politics of blame Modi for everything on earth starting from Delhi heat to rain to bad weather to…… But soon Aravind kejriwal realized that he is no match to Modi either in stature, honesty, leadership quality, statesmanship, patriotism, commitment in sab ka vikas and decent politics. Later he shifted his politics to governance from abusing and criticizing Modi.

Aravind Kejriwal could realize his mistake and become passive follower of Modi because his desire was to match the leadership stature of Modi at the national level. But for Sonia-Vadra-Rahul Gandhi family’s problem is different. The family strongly believes that the prime minister-ship of India belongs to the family and only Mrs. Vadra or her children or Rahul Gandhi alone have the right to become the Prime Minister of India and not the humble person like Modi.

Therefore all members of the family has only one point agenda called abuse, hate and oppose Modi and nothing else. Like how the herd of sheep or flock of ducks would follow the shepherded or duck-man, most of those follow the family for payment, some political position etc., in the party also abuse and oppose Modi just to please the family.

As long as the congress party engages in such dirty politics of jealous, personal hatred and revenge, the party is going to lose its entire base. Instead of opposing Modi, the dynast should become Modi Bhakt and must learn decent and clean politics from PM Modi and Amit Shah. When the entire India and half of the world adore and revere Modi, nothing wrong for the dynast to fall at the feet of Modi and seek his blessings.

The Sonia-Vadra-Rahul Gandhi family also must study how the so called sycophants are destroying the congress by just praising the family and derail its political agenda. It looks like some congress men are guiding the family to support the regional parties to ensure the defeat of BJP even if such support is self-destructive.

The Sonia-Vadra-Raghul Gandhi family must realize the truth that its first enemy is not BJP or Modi but the regional parties. Only when the regional parties are decimated electorally, Congress can be revived otherwise the congress would only shrink further and the dynast will be left with only option; play his lyre when congress party is decimated by the regional parties.

Another worry of congress also we must note down carefully. The minority vote has started to shift towards the regional parties. So minority appeasement or Shiv Bhakt card or the carrier of Brahmin DNA is not going to work for the dynast. Only way the dynast can save his ship is surrender before Modi and Amit Shah, seek their forgiveness and start a new chapter in Indian politics which is clean, honest and free from sycophancy, corruption and nepotism. Stop supporting regional parties; instead work to defeat all the regional parties. India need nationalism and national political forces and not regional tukde tukde gangs jettison a stable India.

Seattle City Council passes a sick-socialist resolution

0

Socialism and sick-socialism are two different types. The former is an economic, political, and social philosophy. The latter is a demonic version of socialism upheld by a particular political class which earns bread and butter through deceitfulness and manipulation by suffocating and strangling the rights of those who do not cater to their ideology. Practitioners of this form of socialism lack integrity of moral character as their conscience do not prick for a moment to participate in hypocrisy.

Seattle City Council has passed a Resolution (Res 31926) on February 3, 2020, introduced by Kshama Sawant opposing National Register of Citizens (NRC) and Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) of India. Sawant is a member of Socialist Alternative political party and the Seattle City Council. She celebrated the passage of Resolution “denouncing” the NRC and CAA passed by “the far-right government of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in India”. Right at the outset, it becomes imperative to educate the ignorant Council that CAA was passed by the Parliament of India following proper democratic procedures, not by BJP or Narendra Modi. Moreover, who told that BJP is a “far-right” political party? Who told that PM Modi is a far-right politician? The first feature of sick-socialists is that they mislead and misinform people.

Whereas the Resolution claims to be about NRC and CAA, it is baffling to find that it begins with 2002 riot in Gujarat. Any well-informed person is aware of the fact that CAA has nothing to do with the 2002 riot in Gujarat. However, such association reveals a cunning and cruel strategy of the sick-socialists. Fuelled by their deliberate spree for misguidance, they highlight a gruesome context of their choice and obliterate other contexts of their neglect to create a semblance among people that they are the godsend redeemers of discrimination. The second feature of sick-socialists is that they create a terror context for their narrative credibility and credulity.

The Resolution mentions uncouthly about Prime Minister Modi as “the Butcher of Gujarat”, but has deliberately suppressed the fact that Nanavati Commission has given a clean chit to Narendra Modi in the 2002 Gujarat riots. The unscrupulousness of the Resolution stands exposed when it speaks about the 2002 Gujarat massacre as an “anti-Muslim violence” in which “an estimated 2,000 people were killed” and “many Muslim women were targeted for rape and other forms of sexual violence”, but remains silent about the carnage that took place on 27 February 2002 in the Sabarmati Express in which 59 Hindu karsevaks which included 27 women and 10 children returning from Ayodhya were burnt alive by a Muslim mob near Godhra railway station in Gujarat. The Resolution has deliberately suppressed the train burning case. If the council is so concerned about the “democratic rights for all peoples”, why does it shed crocodile tears at every footstep only for Muslims and forget about the rights of other people? Do the 59 karsevaks have no democratic rights? Will the council ever speak about the riots that took place when UPA and Congress were in power?

It is inhuman to find that the Resolution has not spoken a word about the torture and discrimination the religious minorities experience in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh, yet the Resolution claims to support the democratic rights for all peoples and to oppose religious discrimination. It is evident that the Resolution is engaging in selective outrage like their Indian counterparts. The third feature of sick-socialists is that they are the butchers of democratic rights of certain peoples.

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. The Resolution compares NRC and CAA with anti-Semitic and racist Nuremberg Laws in Nazi Germany. This comparison is epistemic violence which is a tactic of domination enshrined through the construction of implausible associations in order to legitimise sick-socialist vested interest and to suppress other forms of knowledge which leads to the development of alternative ideology. This is the fourth feature.

The Resolution mentions that anti-CAA protests “have faced repression”, but has not mentioned anything about the vandalization of public property such as setting fire to trains and buses by people belonging to a particular religious community, and rampant stone-pelting which injured civilians and police personnel. The fifth feature of sick-socialists is that their heart leaps for the Jihadis, but they maintain dead silence about Jihadi depredations such as arson, rape, murder, riot-mongering, plundering, vandalism, and terrorism.

The news release about Sawant’s celebration of the passage of Resolution mentions about mass protests and strike actions, and cites a news report from The New York Times. It is interesting to note that the Council member has selected a newspaper which is Left-leaning and vitriolic on Modi. The fifth feature of sick-socialists is that they maintain a network of news agencies which serve as Goebbelsian propaganda mouthpiece.

Comments made by Kshama Sawant needs close reading. She comments, “If one had even a modicum of honesty, one would have to call the documentation requirements absurd on the face of it, and only logical when you see that it seeks to fulfill the specific agenda of snatching away citizenship rights from large numbers of people”. Unfortunately, this comment is without “a modicum of honesty”. What a sheer bluff! Modi government has no intention to snatch away citizenship right of a single Indian, but indeed the government intends to identify the illegal immigrants living within India and to deport them to their respective country. The sick-socialists might consider such move as discriminatory, but the majority of Indians stand with Modi government on the issue of illegal immigrants.

Regarding NRC rules for documentation, she claims that she “would be unable to provide the required documents”. Her Wikipedia page tells that she had “studied computer science and graduated with a BSc from the University of Mumbai in 1994“. Now the question is, what are the documents provided by her for taking admission at the University of Mumbai? The Wikipedia page further tells that she has earned a doctoral degree from North Carolina State University. It means she emigrated from India to the USA with an Indian passport. What are the documents provided by her to get the Indian passport? If she has not got a passport producing forged documents, then the same documents used for getting the passport are needed for NRC. What is the intention behind creating such brainless monkeyshines if not suffering from the malady of Rightophobia?

The Resolution and Sawant’s comments before the passing of Resolution make explicit that the City Council is grappling with fear for the rise of Right-wing politics. The Resolution and Sawant’s comments are expressions of Leftist hostility against the Government of India which works with a clear vision and intention and undertakes constructive and developmental initiatives. The rise of Right-wing politics is a clear message to the sick-socialists and Communist cons that people from all walks of life have realised your hypocrisy, have rejected you people and have put their trust on the pro-people political parties which have a commitment toward every aspect of the nation. Even Shekhar Gupta, a sharp critic of Modi, admits that!

The Council should have maintained “a modicum of honesty” in the representation of facts. It should have checked facts and consulted experts before tabling the Resolution. Now that the Resolution is passed, the Council should formulate a neutral and objective committee and review the Resolution and the comments made by Sawant. If the committee finds that some of the clauses and comments are distorted and fabricated, then the Council should initiate appropriate action. The further steps taken by the Council would prove whether it is founded upon socialism or sick-socialism.

Hyper-ownership of Siddha system is not going to help, instead ban cross pathy

0

The recent report on FSSAI granting licence to several herbal ingredients such as Thippili powder, Kasturi manjal and Mudakathan as food supplements being objected by some Siddha experts in anonymity stating that who would own the responsibility for the side effects from those herbal products, if occurs.

The bone of contention was that FSSAI should not grant licence to these products because they are described as Siddha drugs by the system. The objection or concern is quite bizarre because all the above herbal ingredients are either grown widely or cultivated by several farmers for commercial use. Further some of the herbal ingredients are even used is variety of culinary preparations.

If the ownership possessiveness shown by some Siddha experts is so strong, then they may soon ask the cultivators and traders to stop the trade and cultivation of all those herbs listed in Siddha system as drug or drug ingredient or else must get permission from Siddha experts.

Further the Siddha experts may also even demand that without their permission no one should use/consume any of the herbal ingredients listed in the Siddha system without prior permission from Siddha system. It means, from coconut oil to gingili oil to asafoetida to salt to curcuma power to sugar and jaggery to curry leaves to fenugreek to Aloe vera to almond to ghee to milk and butter to…….. all most everything thing that we consume today must be stopped immediately or must get permission Siddha system.

When the question of how they claim raw Aloe vera or curcuma as drug is if asked, immediately they would jump the gun and say that Siddha system has certain specialized methods called purification and processing and that is how all the ingredients are converted as medicine.

What therapeutic effect the Siddha or Ayush products would offer, what is the active content (s) responsible for the above, what is the mechanism of action, where is the pharmacokinetic data, how soon the patient would get the benefit, what is the dosage required, how we can medically measure the benefit, how the Tridosha can be tested, correction after Siddha product intervention can be confirmed and if Siddha products are so effective, why several institutionally qualified Siddha vaidya are engaged in cross pathy, none of the questions the experts would either love to face or are willing to address.

Single herb or herbal preparations either licensed as food supplement or food or as Siddha product should not be seen as an issue but how far it would offer some benefit to humanity should be the key concern we must display.

If we promote Siddha products as drug they are not going to succeed in the modern world.  When a Siddha product is promoted as drug, naturally the question would be posed as how an herbal conglomeration without knowing its phytochemistry chemistry or pharmacology or mechanism of action or drug targeting and also due to no visible effect seen against any of the key disease symptoms can be accepted as drug would surface which AYUSH may not dodge than explain.  If Siddha products are promoted as paramedical substances, the system will gain some ground in near future.

Siddha experts should worry more about cross pathy by several Siddha vaidya in private practice in the state than about FSSAI granting license to certain herbs as food supplements. When the Siddha vaidya in private practice show lack of trust and confidence in prescribing Siddha products and take pride in prescribing allopathic drugs and then make claims about their competence possibly obtained from CIMS are the one derailing the credence of Siddha system. If the Siddha vaidya in private practice instead of engaged in cross pathy, told the patient about the greatness of Siddha system, how the self-discipline and other Siddha doctrines are extremely helpful in dealing all most all diseases, the system would get better recognition and respect that it deserves.

Cross pathy by some Siddha vaidya in private practice should be the issue Siddha vaidyas in government service must discuss and do the needful to convince their brethren in private practice to take pride in practicing Siddha system and promote it in the society. Claiming ownership over herbs and blaming other competent government licencing agencies like FSSAI is not going to help in promoting Siddha system. Such attempts would only make the credence of the system laughable.

Is Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam the protector of Hindus, not the BJP?

0

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam MP of Thoothukudi, Mrs Kanimozhi, has taken a dig at the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) brought about by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government, in a public meeting held at Ramanathapuram along with the Indian Union Muslim League and other opposition allies of the DMK.

The Secular Progressive Alliance, which is led by the DMK, started a signature campaign opposing the CAA, the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population Register (NPR) a week ago, aiming to acquire one crore signatures demanding the withdrawal of the amendment in the citizenship law and to repeal the NPR and NRC. Despite knowing that the amendment in the citizenship law has been adopted by due process, through proper democratic means after a public debate in both Houses of Parliament, this campaign was nevertheless carried out simply to create an anti-central government stance. With this aim in mind, public meetings were held at various districts by the DMK and its allies to voice out anti-CAA sentiments and create a wave of anti-government, anti-BJP stance amongst the people of Tamil Nadu.

During one such meeting held in Ramanathapuram on 9 February, Mrs Kanimozhi made many statements that were not even related to the subject of CAA, NRC or NPR and the so-called harm it causes to the citizens of India. Instead, she went on a rant on how the central government led by the BJP has essentially failed in all the promises it has made to its citizens. Until today, the DMK and its allies have not made a clear case against the CAA. Instead they have been fear-mongering and falsely misleading the Muslims in Tamil Nadu that with CAA and NPR, NRC will follow and that those Muslims without proper documentation will be put in detention centers. This devious propaganda has been successfully enacted in places like Shaheen Bagh, and the DMK is trying to replicate a similar anti-CAA rebellion in the Ramanathapuram district, in which the Muslims consist of 16%-18% of the population.

In her speech, Mrs Kanimozhi made a provoking statement about E.V. Ramasamy Naicker, whom the DMK refers to as “Periyar”, being the protector of Hindus and that the BJP, although it claims to be a party for the Hindus, has no right to claim as such and that the Hinduism BJP talks about, does not exist in Tamil Nadu. To speak about Hinduism in a seemingly supportive manner like this in the presence of the Muslims is something new for the DMK in recent times. The DMK has been gradually moving away from minority appeasement, and it has been attempting to pit itself as a pro-Hindu party, most probably under the advice of Mr Prashant Kishore.

The perception that the DMK is anti-Hindu has emerged gradually in Tamil Nadu in recent years, as the people are starting to notice Hindu appeasement politics being carried out by the DMK, in contrast to the ideological leanings of the party and its cadres. There was a time when the followers of E.V. Ramasamy proudly claimed that they beat the statue of Sri Rama with slippers. However, today they are on the defensive. In many instances, Mrs Kanimozhi herself has spoken outwardly that she is an atheist and even when she speaks about Hinduism, she makes a clear distinction between the Hinduism as practised by the “Dravidians” as opposed to the Hinduism practised by the “Aryans” (or the Hinduism that the BJP talks about). The President of DMK, Mr MK Stalin, has spoken about Vedic marriage rituals in a derogatory manner, and in many other instances he has expressed similar anti-Hindu statements without any consideration of hurting the sentiments the Hindu majority. Today, however, suddenly “Periyar” has become the protector of the Hindus, according to Mrs Kanimozhi.

As the false historical stories concocted by the Dravidar Kazhagam (DK) about “Periyar” untangles, the people in Tamil Nadu have become more receptive to the “right-wing” voice. Many right-wing social commentators like Mr Maridhas and Mr Kishore K Swamy have consistently exposed the lies of the DMK when it comes to E.V. Ramasamy. For example, it was widely known and also written in history textbooks that E.V.Ramasamy was the recipient of the UNESCO Award, calling him the Socrates of Southeast Asia, which was then exposed to be a misleading historical information that was purposely propagated by the DK.

Similar to this, the DK-DMK is now trying to mislead the people by promoting its ideologue, E.V.Ramasamy, as the protector of Hindus. The then Justice Party (the pre-cursor of the DK and whose head was E.V.Ramasamy), when it was ruling the Madras Presidency in the early 1900s, refused to revoke the Criminal Tribes Act (CTA) 1920. At that time, it was U. Muthuramalingam Thevar who vehemently opposed the CTA, putting a tough fight for the Justice Party. It was Muthuramalingam Thevar who fought for the rights of the various downtrodden tribes, who had been forcefully classified as criminal tribes under this brutal act. These villagers from various caste communities were neither saved by Justice Party, nor by E.V.Ramasamy who led the party. Therefore, to call E.V.Ramasamy as the protector of Hindus is a lie stretched too far, that the people have started mocking the DMK for exposing itself and its political appeasement tactics.

Before pointing fingers at the BJP, the DMK has to ask itself whether it has been the protectors of Hindus and Hinduism with the following questions:

  1. Why did the DMK, on 17 November 2009, released from jail nine terrorists who were members of Al Ummah, convicted in the 1998 Coimbatore blasts, citing the occasion of 100th birth anniversary of Arignar Anna, who is the ex-Chief Minister and founder of the DMK?
  2. Has the DMK, in any of its official press releases or in the TV Channels run by the party or in official Twitter/Facebook handles, wished the Hindus on the occasion of any Hindu festivals, like Deepavali, Saraswati Puja, or Navaratri? However, without fail, the DMK wishes the Christians and Muslims for Christmas and Ramzan respectively. Why does the DMK have these double standards?
  3. Why do the DMK party members paint any Hindu or any supporter of Narendra Modi, our Prime Minister, as “saffron” and refer to them as “sanghi”, instead of hearing them out and genuinely taking concerns for the Hindu causes?
  4. What purpose does the DMK want to achieve by speaking derogatorily about Hindu marriage rites and rituals in a public forum?
  5. If the DMK truly cares for the Hindu’s religious sentiments, then why did it not support the beliefs of the Sabarimala devotees? Whereas in another instance, in 2006, when the DMK was able to respect the religious beliefs and sentiments of the Christians and hence, decided to ban the movie ‘The Da Vince Code’, why did the DMK not show a similar respect for Hindu beliefs in the Sabarimala issue?

These anti-CAA gatherings conducted by the DMK are nothing but anti-central government, more accurately anti-BJP, gatherings. The DMK has always been spreading subtle separatist ideas and sentiments, conditioning the people of Tamil Nadu to be averse to nationalism, especially Hindu nationalism. It has constantly maintained that Tamils are not Hindus and that we are a distinct race, subtly hinting that we are separate and unique when compared to the rest of India.

Such politics is not healthy for the unity and social integrity of our nation, and therefore, there is sufficient basis to call for a ban of the DMK. Without the divisive politics and corrupt practices of the DMK, there will be peace and religious harmony in Tamil Nadu.

Women in Army- Fighting a mindset

0

A recent reply by the Central Govt to Supreme Court regarding giving command positions to women officers created a furor, the basis of Center’s reply consisted of, rural societal norms of the male troops, physiological reasons, consequences if taken prisoner of war, different physical standards and exposure. Given the consistency in the position taken by Army leadership in all the previous occasions whenever the matter of women’s role in Army came up for debate, Center’s reply doesn’t look out of sync with the view of the Army top brass.

Women have been part of Indian Army since 1990s when they were first inducted as Officers in the non-combat sections of the Army, women are still not permitted as Jawans, the first batch of women Jawans is slated to join the Army in a few years’ time. Women Officers in Army join as Short Service Officers in the non combat sections of the Army, they serve for 5 years and their service is extendable up to 14 years before they get released from the Army. Since their first induction, the women have been demanding equal opportunities and terms and conditions to be at par with the regular officers and have been inching towards more and more parity, for instance opening up of certain sections of the combat arms which was hitherto closed for women, like Engineers, if not into the core fighting sections like Infantry.

Keeping aside political correctness, which tend to overwhelm most contentious debates, denying combat and command role to women in the Armed Forces is an anomaly that needs correction. Historically, women have always been part of military in India, even Rigveda has mention of “Vishpala”, a warrior queen. Idea of women as a combatant is not alien to Indian culture, from mythologies to historical figures our folklore is peppered with women warriors. Indian culture accepts women as combatants, making Armed Forces an exclusive male-domain is a rather recent phenomenon, a British and Mughal legacy. If we see the culture of the middle east as well as medieval Europe, women in Army was considered a taboo, that idea got internalized over a period of time which needs to be shaken off.

Army as an organization needs to be fleet footed and eager to change with the times and adapt to the nation’s needs. Change is never easy, it requires an organization to critically evaluate itself, question it’s own long held beliefs and push itself out of the comfort zone to remain competitive in an ever changing world, but more often than not Army is found fighting change rather than fighting status quo.

We need to go beyond the symbolic entry of women in the Army to cater to political correctness, the present terms and conditions are discriminatory in nature, Army needs to become gender neutral and open up completely to the idea of all genders in combatant role purely based on knowledge, skill and ability. Govt needs to open Rashtriya Indian Military College, Military Schools, Sainik Schools, NDA as well as IMA to women as well.

Denial of combat and higher command role to women in Army is more a matter of mindset than anything tangible, ability cannot be pre-judged, and opportunity cannot be denied to those seeking equality. It can be argued that even if all the vistas are opened for women there will be very few who pass the test, but even if few does, the opportunity to take the test cannot be denied in all fairness. Army should have the strength to accept it’s anomalies and past mistakes, and take measures to correct them post haste.

In search of India’s soul“.

ये शीर्षक देखते ही मार्टिन लूथर किंग जूनियर का एक कथन याद आ गया. उन्होंने कहा था- “To other countries, I may go as a tourist, but to India, I come as a pilgrim.”

Like the nephew Lord Krishna killed his uncle Kamsa, Raj Thackeray too will kill Shiv Sena

0

Raj Thackeray of MNS has played a very smart politics in Maharashtra and in fact, if sustains his energy and pursuit, may even eliminate Shiv Sena headed by the two dynasts viz., Uddav Thackeray and his son Aditya Thackeray.

Makkathayam and Marumakkathayam are well known to India, at least in the state of Kerala.  Several princely states in Kerala are inherited after the king not by his son’s but his nephew who are the legitimate heir to the throne in Kerala which is called Marumakkathayam. But several Indian politicians later changed the political formula and made their sons the legal heir and thus the politics of dynasty started. Sharad Pawar may be not to get killed by his nephew like how Lord Krishna killed Kamsa, made several somersaults and appointed his nephew Ajit Pawar as deputy chief minister of Maharashtra.

May be sensing the danger of growing popularity of Raj Thackeray, the then Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray side lined him and made his son chief of Shiv Sena.  Since BJP was with Shiv Sena, Raj Thackeray could not break the back bone of Shiv Sena, however he started own political outfit called MNS (Maharashtra Nav Nirman Sena). MNS was politically quiescent till date but has become very active recently.

Certainly the new lease of life of MNS has been benevolently gifted by none other than his uncle’s son and supremo of Shiv Sena, Udhav Thackeray who touched new low in Indian politics. Shiv Sena breached all political ethics, etiquette and moral principles and broke away from BJP, took the support of NCP and Congress to fulfill its ambition that Uddav becomes the chief minister of Maharashtra and his son becomes minister with cabinet rank.

The hard core Shiv Sena followers really got wounded and injured by the third rate politics of Uddav Thackeray of Shiv Sena. They have started to express that the son of Bal Thackeray has betrayed own father for power and such dirty politics none in India has ever done in the past.

Realizing the anger and disgruntlement of several Shiv Sena followers, Raj Thackeray has decided to rejuvenate MNS so that all those who got fooled and cheated by Shiv Sena can come back to MNS. Raj Thackeray is much more committed to the ideology of Shiv Sena than Uddav Thackeray and is also not after power like Uddav Thackeray.

If Raj Thackeray peddles strong, soon Shiv Sena would end up with only father and his son alone left in the party and all others migrate to MNS.

Hindu mythology has shown that several evil forces assumes extra strong before destruction and the best examples are Padmasura, Kamsa, Ravan etc. The power that Shiv Sena enjoys today is nothing but the last glow of Shiv Sena. Congress too is going to soil defeat for its dirty politics against the mandate of people.

BJP must extend its tactical support to MNS and Raj Thackeray to split Shiv Sena because the political parties like Shiv Sena is dangerous to democracy. Shiv Sena won the last assembly election due to the support of Modi but after election, Shiv Sena joined hands with congress and formed government in Maharashtra.

Like how TDP in Andhra Pradesh was taught a life lesson for betraying Modi and BJP, Shiv Sena too must be taught a life lesson and therefore MNS needs to be strengthened.

It is a testing time for Shiv Sena. Raj Thackeray has taken up the issue of CAA and made it clear that India is not Dharmasala. Shiv Sena supported CAA but later may be due to the fear of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, withdrawn from the scene when the bill was taken up for voting in upper house.

The issue of reservation to religions minority, Bharat Ratna to Savarkar and CAA how Shiv Sena is going to deal with its ideological partners such as congress and NCP, we will have to wait. Soon the alliance will fail and the Shiv Sena will find its way out like how Chandrababu Naidu of TDP in Andhra Pradesh.
