The TikTok menace in India is spreading. A recent video of TikTok ‘celebrity’ Faizal Siddiqi has gone viral. In the video he is seen glorifying and glamorizing the acid attack on women. Since then social media has been abuzz with comments. National Commission of Women Chairperson Rekha Sharma also took note of it and promised action.
From the video promoting acid attack.
This is not the first time TikTok is in news for wrong reasons. In last few days, it has been accused of promoting rape, pedophilia, animal cruelty, love jihad and Islamism. During the month of March, there was a flood of videos by Muslims on TikTok with the punchline “Corona ka ilaaz kya? 5 vakt namaz”(What is the cure of Corona? 5 times Namaza a day). That when there was a lockdown in effect. So, it served a purpose in amplifying the perverse. Ironically many of these 5 time Namazis were found COVID-19 positive in succeeding days. The five time Namaz apparantly had no effect.
Similarly, there are scores of videos glorifying rape of Hindu women by Muslims. Many videos show how it is cool to be a Muslim and glorify dramatic Hindu to Muslim conversion of girls. Many videos have been reported for animal cruelty. Some time ago, there was a joint video by Muslim tiktokers that threatened Hindus of terrorism because a Gorakshaks killed Akhlaq. There are videos that promote nudity and also promote sexualisation of very young children.
The social media reaction to TikTok menace has been huge. People of all shades (except the usual suspects) have condemned the acid attack video. There have been regular demands to ban the app in India on Twitter trends. Many have rated TikTok a one star on play store. As a result, its rating has dropped sharply. Still, Worryingly, a youtube video made by noted Youtuber CarryMinati about TikTok was taken down by YouTube, after it created history within hours by going super-viral.
Notably, there are multiple other reasons to ban TikTok apart from its hateful, vulgar content. The parent company of TikTok, ByteDance is no stranger to controversies. The Chinese company has close ties with ruling Communist Party of China. It has helped the Chinese govt in its repression in Xinxiang. It also collects and sends user data of Indians to China, which raises obvious privacy and national security concerns. The company was actually find $5.7 million in 2019 in US for invading privacy of under-13 children.
Recently there were screenshots of an email sent by TikTok to its Indian employees, which instructed them to remove any content related to Tibet, Dalai Lama or criticism of China. This is serious for many reasons. One, is it not invasion of cyber sovereignty of India and curtailment of freedom of speech of Indian citizens? Second, it is implied they have a technology to parse and sensor vast amounts of data. This is like extending the great Chinese firewall into India. How prepared are we for that? Thirdly, no such guideline was issued for hateful, misogynistic, jihadi content. Evidently, they do not wish good for India.
Unfortunately, Indian law enforcement and political leadership have been found severely lacking in case of Tiktok menace. They have shown no interest in pursuing this as of now. China does not allow even google, twitter, facebook and youtube because it wants to control narrative at home. By exporting such apps, it can now control the narrative in India too. The acid attack glorifying TikToker has more than 13 million followers! Indians are still not ready or capable(?) to develop a single world class social media company. That should scare us no end.
Coronavirus or COVID-19 family is of viruses that cause a range of illnesses in humans including the common cough and cold and more severe forms like Sars and Mers which are life-threatening. With the increase of COVID-19 cases and death worldwide the who declared the coronavirusoutbreak a pandemic in the second week of March 2020.
When we have a surprise, coronavirus outbreak and the subsequent countrywide lockdown. The pandemic economy hit hard the income of all the Indian retailers selling nonessential items like a car, furniture clothes jewelry, etc. Currently, coronavirus is impacting the global and the Indian economy and stock market which is lead to massive portfolio getting washed out. Indian stock market fell by around 35% giving an opportunity for long term investors to invest in fundamentally sound companies at a discounted rate.
So, due to any kind of pandemic global market does correct sharply, there was no exception Indian markets too suck up to selling pressure and Nifty declined 35% during the recent correction. Recently a report published showed that around the 1.2 million new accounts were opened in March and April month. Stock market participants will benefit from this opportunity, especially top stockbrokers in India. Paisowala platform which helps to find the best broker has seen monthly account openings double with a stockbroker since February, with a 20% increase in first-time investors, mostly under 30 years.
For the past few years the Indian stock market has witnessed many crashes the biggest of them was in 2008-09 where was is a subprime lending crisis when the market drop by almost 60% from its peak however from 2009 stock markets across the globe recovered Indian stock markets sustain the bull run over the years. Despite a few hiccups.
The majority of companies are expecting a significant decline in revenue and job losses. The most important severely affected sector is aviation automotive and seafood. Going forward work week income growth and job losses are expected to impact demand and some products post lockdown 4. The COVID-19 crisis has triggered large erosion of demand globally resulting in a sharp decline in crude prices due to the absence of demand because of lockdown.
Recently Finance minister recently announced a 20 lakh crore rupees release package aiming and softening the effect of this destruction. This would largely benefit the unorganized sector workers especially the daily wage earners urban and the rural poor.
Impact of Crude Oil In Indian Economy
India imports more than 80% of its crude oil requirements. A significant price change in crude oil has a direct impact on India’s current account deficit hence if the oil prices continue to be in the lower range for a long period of time it will reduce India’s import bill and intern the current account deficit.
Crude oil is used as a raw material by a lot of companies. Thus a big drop in crude prices may make some manufacturing companies see positive traction as the full cost for production declines. Many Pharma companies to benefit shows demand for paracetamol and allied medicines. This pandemic has also made people realize the importance of life & medical insurance. Thus this sector can see some good order books.
Nehru Nagar, near Mithibai College in Vile Parle: Volunteers of ABVP and RSS began door to door screening in slum pockets of Nehru Nagar in Mumbai, equipped with PPE sets and directed by doctors on board, and screened over 500 people in total in the last three days. From the 500 people screened, 4 were suspected of contracting the virus, out of which 2 were prescribed home quarantine while the others were referred to a BMC hospital. The volunteers were divided into batches of 7 people with shifts of 3 days each, followed by home quarantine for 5 days after their shift is completed.
Suraj Lokare, Organising Secretary of ABVP South Mumbai and student of Sydenham College, gave a statement, “These 3 days of volunteering brings you in the shoes of BMC and police personnel, and helps you to understand the difficulties faced by them in slum pockets where the virus has spread rapidly. The response from local residents have been very encouraging and are welcome to such initiatives, who at many times offered us refreshments during the shifts. Doing such forms of social service is a part of ABVP’s initiative ‘Seva for Society’, and has always been undertaken by RSS and ABVP workers alike.”
The initiative is slated to end after the entire locality of 40,000 residents are tested for SARS-Cov-2.
The number of COVID-19 hotspots is at a surge and the whole nation is under lockdown. Health authorities are working relentlessly to control the spread of the deadly COVID-19 virus. Everyday new cases are being reported across different regions. There are more than 96,169 cases of COVID-19 positive patients, more than 36,824 have recovered.
In an attempt to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, health experts at AMRI Hospitals have shared some home care tips for patients suspected of COVID-19 with mild symptoms and urged patients and household members to get appropriate knowledge regarding the same to prevent rest of the family members from this deadly disease.
Household members should adhere to the following recommendations:
• Infected persons must be isolated in a well-ventilated room
• Movement of the patient inside the house must be minimized
• Other family members must stay in a different room and maintain a distance of at least 2 feet from the affected person
• Ensure proper hand hygiene by washing your hand with soap and water or alcohol-based sanitizer frequently, after any sort of contact with the Corona positive person
• Avoid any kind of exposure or sharing items like cigarette, toothbrush or clothes
• Mask must be used while interacting with anyone
• Caregivers must wear a mask covering the nose and the mouth
To manage COVID-19 patients, AMRI Hospitals, teleconsultation hospital in Kolkata has recommended that all laboratory confirmed cases to be isolated in a healthcare facility only. Most of the people who experience mild to moderate symptoms could be recovered without any kind of special treatment. We urge all of you to take necessary precautions and follow the recent guidelines of authorities in order to protect yourself and your loved ones from the deadly virus.
One day, there was a terrible accident. A truck rammed into the compound wall of a big house, along a steep road which had a blind curve. One side of the wall was totally demolished and the tree behind it had fallen down, damaging the garden. A few people gathered there and a conversation began.
“This is how Modi is destroying trees”, a journalist remarked as he looked up to see the lorry’s name. “I will file a PIL in the court against Modi for allowing trucks to run during lockdown. Let me start a campaign on some crowdfunding site”, remarked a wannabe lawyer. He continued “The RTI application I filed last time said that there is no information with the Home Ministry about this truck. They lied!”.
“Thanks to Aurangazeb, India has many trees today”, a lady remarked candidly and she moved aside to write a long thesis which was supposed to be presented for her Ph.D. “The Mughals were so noble. They never invented trucks because they knew it would cause accidents like these”, she sobbed as she wrote.
“Sangh Parivar hacked the truck via bluetooth and caused this accident, via Nagpur”, another reporter claimed, as she just got down from her sedan. She had seen the registration of the truck, which was identified as the Nagpur RTO’s. The man with her, who seemed to be a journalist, blurted,”The same thing happened in 2002. What about 2002? Doesn’t anyone remember it?”. He sounded angry and cynical at the same time. He then saw the driver of the truck, lying inside it, injured. The driver asked both of them to help him come out. “Maintain the same pose there, my cameraman is on the way. We need to take your picture”, he remarked. Soon he saw the garden inside and the owners of it. It was a beautiful, square shaped garden. He suddenly got into the mood for a fist fight and went to assault the owners of it, like a boxer. But, his reporter wife stopped him.
Soon, around 3 people came in. They were in a red and white sports car with a siren. They were the accredited truth finders who were supposed to be the vanguard of truth and integrity. Immediately, one of the journalists went up to them and thanked them profusely for arriving on time after seeing her WhatsApp message for a fact-check request. The other one went to set up a small table and arrange 3 monitors. It looked like a dressing table. He quickly opened the reverse image search and uploaded the pictures of those surroundings. One by one, many results popped up.
One of those were about similar trucks, the compound wall and some accidents at other locations. By now, all the journalists had surrounded the mini-workstation. “Eureka Eureka!”, he twirled around the chair and jumped up. “These are fake images. The compound wall is still intact and so is the vehicle. See these pictures” and he put the search results on a slideshow. The journalists were elated. They had found someone who could show them the truth. They even knew the headlines by now, “Sangh parivar creates fake accidents during lockdown, to frighten minorities”.
It was not over yet. They then telephoned a high ranking police official and asked him, “Was there an accident at so and so spot?”. Obviously, it was early morning and the officer in a far off city had not even known this. So he replied “I don’t know about such an accident, will inquire with the local police and get back to you”. The checkers continued jovially “See the police also has denied the incident. False accident’s busted”. The journalists agreed in unison, “Yes yes!”
By now, the wounded driver managed to crawl out of the entangled wires and metal frames. An empathetic onlooker was about to take him to the hospital when the truth finders were about to end their conquest, shouting “Donate to us for more truth!”. The journalists were now seeing the driver, stuck in a quandary, wondering whether there was such a driver or not!
Virtually eight weeks after India’s administration enforced an all-embracing coronavirus lockdown on the nation more than 1.3 billion residents, the jury is still out on whether the restraints had the desired outcome. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has highlighted the positive outcomes, other spectators have their assorted sentiments of one of the world’s strictest lockdowns. This article takes an eagle-eye view of the lockdown’s strategy from the “Leela’s” of Lord Krishna.
Lord Krishna is counted as one of the 12 incarnations of Lord Vishnu and is famous for his energetic conduct, shenanigans, philosophy, justice, graceful dance, love, and foremost his warrior skills. He is also known for his “Leelas”, which are mostly with the milkmaids of Braj (Mathura). Lord Krishna is said to have several names each gained from his different “Leelas”.
“Ranchod” is also one of the 108 names given to Krishna due to a very distinct and peculiar “Leela” that he played and which is derived from two different words namely ‘Ran’ which means war and ‘chodd’ which means to leave. Hence the meaning of Ranchod is the one who ran away from the battlefield.
Now the question arises, can a god who is so valiant and powerful like Lord Krishna be known as Ranchodd?
This mighty myth is associated with Jarasandh, the mighty King of Magadh, a potent king who defeated many other emperors.
He married both his daughters to Kansa, the maternal uncle of Lord Krishna. But due to his injustice and evil acts, Lord Krishna killed Kansa. As soon as Jarasandh came to know about this, he became furious and decided to behead Lord Krishna, and forged a friendship with Kalyavan, who was the son of Sage Sheshirayan and the “Apsara” Rambha. Sage Sheshirayan performed severe penance to propitiate Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva then eventually blessed him with a boon of a son who could not be defeated by anyone including God himself.
Upon comprehending that King Kalyavan could not be vanquished, Lord Krishna pondered a strategy saving the city of Mathura from another war. He fled the battleground and moved towards mountains away from the populace and the army so that the city’s already depleting wealth along with the citizens’ draining health due to previous wars is now spared, also giving him the epithet of “Ranchodd”
Not acceding the enemy to escape from his lattice, Kalyavan followed Lord Krishna to those mountains and caves and left a unique mark on Lord Krishna’s distinct yellow cloth as the spotting point.
In one of the caves in those mountains, there slept a Sage Mukuchand of ancient times who had not woken up for centuries. The story says that he had helped gods in the war against demons, and in the boon he had asked for sleep, to overcome the tiredness and tardiness from the war. He also asked that if somebody happened to wake him up, he would get burnt to ashes from the light that would emerge from his eyes.
Krishna knew both the boons given to Kalyavan and Mukuchand.
He put the yellow cloth that bore the spotting mark on the sleeping sage and hid behind a boulder.
On reaching the hills Kalyavan mistakenly assumed that Krishna is lying there because the sage had the spotting cloth on and tried to wake him up. When the sage woke up, he burned Kalyavan down to ashes because of his boon.
Lord Krishna suddenly appeared before the sage and blessed him for helping him kill a demon and helping him win the un-triumphal and unconquerable battle.
Ranchod that seemed to be a negative name, but very strategically, Lord Krishna used this name to execute a plan where no armies collided but the enemy was killed. Similarly, our administration has drawn the paradigm with Lord Krishna, in this never-ending, only un-triumphal and unconquerable battle against Covid19.The administration realized that by imposing a lockdown and hiding in our homes, maintaining social distancing is not a sign of cowardice or chickening out of the fight but a time to mitigate the loss of life and lean back, withdraw our troops and ourselves while we strategize and maneuver the path to come back sturdier, stronger and sharper.
The Lockdown 1.0 was rightly not opened in haste by the administration with the thought of indulging in war only on the behest of “opposition economists” who gave more importance to loss of monetary numbers than actual death numbers in this pandemic as it is said “Discretion is a better part of valor”, and saw us lead from Lockdown 1 to Lockdown 4.0.
Also to further fight the battle and achieve triumph, the administration drew inspiration from the analogy that Lord Krishna peculiarly chose his weapon as the Sage Mukuchand who had years of “Dhyaan”, penance and inner focus rather than Kshatriyas – the muscle men who fight with might but not with far- a sight to gain victory over demonic Kalyavan.
Similarly, this administration also revamped the medical infrastructure, which previously could have been overburdened on the drop of a pin by increasing the numbers of ICU beds, railway road hospitals, increased testing and also bringing into play doctors and paramedics who have given eons of their lives to medicine and increased their presence in wit and numbers such white frontline warriors were incentivized with “Dhan man or Tan (Money, Peace of Mind or Soul) rather than militarizing the entire country by use of force and police, as this battle was not one which required “Bul”(Muscle Strength), but “Dhyaan”(Knowledge and Medical Alertness) to fight this demonic disease.
For the administration, these are not easy times. Anxieties abound for all sorts of good reasons. But, we don’t need to add to these anxieties. A carefully constructed approach by the administration to the lockdown has helped us strike the right balance between preparation, strategy, and trauma and helped us fair this battle and beat the coronavirus to square better than most developed countries.
Zafarul Islam Khan, Chairman of Delhi minorities panel chief’s irresponsible statement on 28 Apr 2020 – implying an avalanche if and when Indian Muslims complain to ‘Arab world’ for perceived ‘persecution of Indian Muslims’ in India – amounts to blackmail, unacceptable to any self-respecting nation, and casts aspersions on law abiding, non-political Indian Muslims and has the potential to damage Hindu-Muslim harmony in secular India.
It is regrettable that the large Indian Muslim minority community has lacked modern, forward looking, truly secular leadership – with a few honorable exceptions – since independence! Mr Zafarul Islam Khan, Chairman of Delhi minorities panel is no ordinary run of the mill Muslim leader to be taken lightly! Son of a highly respected Islamic scholar Wahiduddin Khan, Mr Zafurul Islam is influential being the editor and publisher of the Milli Gazette which focuses on issues concerning the Muslim community. He is also the founder and chairman of Charity Alliance, an organization involved in relief and welfare work in India and wields considerable influence among the Muslim minority population in India!
The implications (problem areas) in his controversial statement are—
(A) Muslims are “persecuted’ in India!
(B) Muslims (in India) are subjected to ‘hate campaigns, lynching and riots!
(C) He thanks Kuwait for standing with Indian Muslims!
(D)‘Hindutva bigots’ miscalculated, that because of the huge economic stakes involved, the Arab world will not care about ongoing ‘Muslim persecution’ in India, but were proved wrong!
(E) The “Hindu bigots” forgot that Indian Muslims enjoy huge goodwill in the eyes of the Arab and Muslim world” for their services (rendered) over centuries to Islamic causes, excellence in Islamic and Arabic scholarship, cultural and civilizational gifts to world heritage.
(F) Among prominent Indian Muslim leaders, he counted Zakir Naik, who, according to him was (among) the “respected household names in the Arab and Muslim world.”
(G) He ends with a chilling warning amounting to blackmail when he states “Mind you bigots, Indian Muslims have opted until now not to complain to the Arab and Muslim world about your hate campaigns and lynching and riots! The day they are pushed to do that, bigots will face an avalanche”!
I wonder whether he realizes the dangerous implications of his highly controversial comments- casting unnecessary unwarranted and needless doubts about the loyalty of the entire Indian Muslim community – when he implies about Indian Muslims enjoying Arab support for their services over centuries to “Islamic causes”. Questions are likely to be raised as to what were the ‘services rendered over centuries to Islamic causes by Indian Muslims in secular India, to Arabs? Equally disturbing is the ‘warning’ about Hindutva bigots facing an avalanche the day they ‘complain’ to the Arab world. This was totally needless and controversial comment on entire Muslim minority community, especially during the present corona crisis and the unrest due to Tableeghi Jamat’s recent misadventure.
There have been earlier instances of Muslim leaders making such irresponsible statements in the past as well- when the Shahi imam of Delhi called on Arab countries to impose economic sanctions on India if a Ram temple is constructed in Ayodhya – or for fighting with Osama-Bin-Laden. Religious leaders should realize the immense harm caused by such needless provocations, to communal harmony.
Are Muslims persecuted in India?
In the fifties, a talented Muslim actor (Yusuf Khan) still felt it necessary to assume a Hindu name (Dilip Kumar) to survive/ succeed in Hindi movies! So was the case with another talented Muslim actress Mahjabeen Bano, assuming a Hindu screen name as Meenakumari! Today there are more than a dozen plus Khans/ Muslim actors flaunting their Muslim name and identity and are doing well, with a large (mostly Hindu) fan following in a highly visible, competitive medium like Cinema! This is a clear indication of their confidence that today’s India does not discriminate them for their Muslim origin- confidence, that was absent in the Muslim artists of 1940s – Yet the myth is perpetuated by some vested interests that Muslims are persecuted in India! Whatever be their motives in persisting with this myth, these people do a great disservice to India in the eyes of world community!
Some Indian Muslims go to great lengths to deny their ancient Indian origin! ANWAR SHEIKH describes them the best- “The Indian Muslims may class themselves as the children of foreign invaders to nurse their inferiority complex but the truth is that 95% of them have the same Indian blood in their veins as all other Indians such as Hindus, Sikhs or Christians. The remaining 5% have certainly become Indians by the long domicile in this country. Have they got anywhere else to go? Never mind other Islamic countries, even Pakistan, which was created for all Muslims of the subcontinent, shall not take them in. It is high time that they sober up to the reality, and being Indians, start living as Indians”.
Zafarulla Khan may well pay heed to his scholarly father Wahiduddin Khan’s views on the subject, available easily on internet.
Maulana Wahiduddin Khan was questioned in an interview on OCTOBER 12, 2016 on Anti-Muslim Sentiments– “What do you think are the reasons for these growing anti-Muslim sentiments”(world over)?. He replied “The answer to this question can be found by studying a verse in the Quran. In this verse, the Quran says: “And beware of an affliction that will not smite exclusively those among you who have done wrong.” (8:25). If we study this Quranic verse and objectively apply it to the present situation of Muslims, we realize that what is happening in the world today is not due to “anti-Muslim sentiment”. Rather it is a reaction to Muslims’ own negative activities.
“Muslims say that instances of terrorism are perpetrated only by some Muslims, and not the whole Muslim community. This claim of Muslims could be right, but another serious aspect of this matter is that Muslims to this day have not unequivocally disowned Muslim terrorism. I don’t know of a single person in the entire Muslim world who openly condemns Muslims’ negative activities. If any person does speak on this topic, he would speak with twists. For example, some would say, ‘It is true that Muslims are involved in terrorist activities, but this action of theirs is a reaction: they are reacting to others’ discriminatory behavior towards them.’ This kind of condemnation is certainly not condemnation. Rather, it is akin to indirectly justifying the violent actions of Muslims. Objective analysis tells us that such instances that you cite are certainly not discrimination. Rather, they are a result of Muslims’ own doubtful behaviors. Muslims are themselves responsible for this discrimination. According to a hadith, the Prophet said: Save yourself from being regarded as objectionable. Because Muslims do no outrightly disown the actions of those Muslims who are engaged in wrong actions, others in the community will also face ‘discrimination’. If Muslims were to clearly condemn the actions of those who are doing wrong, then only those specific persons who are guilty of the wrong would face the above kind response, which is termed ‘discrimination’ or ‘anti-Muslim sentiment’.
It will also help if Zafarul Islam khan remembers that he is the Chairman of (ALL) Delhi minorities panel, and not only of Muslims
Here’s a small story: There was a conman in a village who realized the potential of occult and planned to use it for hoodwinking gullible people. So he bought a hen, killed it and stuffed a frog inside its belly, after cleaning it. He called it the ‘flying dead hen’ predictions and began exhibiting it to people. When he brought anything hot to the left of it, it would fly towards right and vice versa too. He used this to make predictions about various things. But the people did not know that it was the frog who jumped as it was hidden. He continued conning people until, the day he got caught.
There was a recent article in The Print India titled “Rahul Gandhi is back. Now with two economists, a migrant aid pack and an ethical hacker”. Here is the link to it, added solely for the reader’s convenience. So this article talks about the ‘comeback’ of Rahul Gandhi for the ‘N’th time. So the 3 main points raised here about his discussions with two economists, the migrant workers’ issues and that of an ‘ethical hacker’. This is just one of the recent come-back and ‘returns’ articles. They are written as usual every year like it was a life changing event. A simple google search with ‘Rahul Gandhi returns’ can show those. Now, let’s analyse each of these points, all of which had some external ‘heat’ to make those resurrectional statements.
First was the discussion he had Raghuram Rajan, the former RBI governor. That had been badly exposed as a scripted and heavily edited video where a clock betrayed the timings. Not that it’s wrong to edit or shoot a scripted interview – which most journalists do but, the amount of external ‘heat’ to make him ‘fly’ was so superficial and choreographed. If an alien landed on Earth at that moment, it would have believed he was the world’s greatest economist. But even that fell flat after a while. The wall clock betrayed him. After all, frogs cannot fly. They can only jump. Then the next attempt was his talk with the Nobel laureate Abhijit Bannerjee. Nothing much changed in it except that the traitor clock was banished and he tried hard to put words in Bannerjee’s mouth.
When it came to the case of the poor migrants, as usual he stuck to the modified version of NYAY, which the people had rejected during the 2019 polls. Next came the generous offer to fund the travel of poor migrant labourers. In Kerala, Congress proposed to pay Rs. 10 lakhs from each district committee but, they ‘could not’ as the local administration refused especially, in Alappuzha. The District Collector there refused to accept the cheque as there were no legal provisions for it. However nothing stopped Congress from donating to the Kerala CMDRF (not mentioning PMCARES here, as they will never donate to a transparently working trust). The biggest shocker was when the video clip of Congress MLA Amarinder Raja came. He was seen telling the people at Bhatinda railway station that Sonia Gandhi paid for their travel and he distributed pamphlets. Well, Congress is adept at playing such dirty tricks while evoking little to no reaction from the fourth estate of today.
Rahul Gandhi’s ethical hacking avatar was the next comedy. He had been conspicuously silent about the controversies surrounding the Sprinklr deal of the Kerala government though it had come up before the High Court of Kerala. The Leader of opposition in the Assembly, who is from Congress had also played a role in bringing up this matter to the HC. Anyway, it’s unfair to blame Rahul Gandhi’s silence on it as he may not know much about Sprinklr and the fixed match in Kerala. The frog does not jump without any heat and it when it does, it does only to a place where it’s directed. It was around this time he raised false alarms about the privacy of the Aarogya Setu app which was developed by the Government of India to fight COVID 19.
“The Aarogya Setu app, is a sophisticated surveillance system, outsourced to a pvt operator, with no institutional oversight – raising serious data security & privacy concerns. Technology can help keep us safe; but fear must not be leveraged to track citizens without their consent” was his tweet. However he never mentioned who the private operator was as he was sure there would be no scrutiny from his pliant media. The hen never gets questioned even when the frog refuses to respond to the heat. All he intended to do was put the Government in trouble and confuse the citizens, thereby derailing India’s efforts to fight COVID 19. Shortly after that a self proclaimed ‘French Hacker’ came out saying Rahul Gandhi was right. Though the Arogya Setu team released a statement about the ‘valuable findings’ of that hacker, he went on to write a long article to further defend Gandhi. There was nothing in it to substantiate Rahul Gandhi’s claims of the ‘private operator’, ‘surveillance’ or ‘lack of consent’. By the end of the day, the pliant media forgot about what Rahul Gandhi said and what the so called hacker tried to prove. There were instances where the village conman got so engrossed in conning people that he forgot about the frog inside.
Every time the Lutyens media tried to resurrect the image of Rahul Gandhi, it always fell flat precisely because he was never what they really showed. They have been trying hard to save him from taking the responsibility of losing so many elections consecutively that they forgot it was leading to the collapse of India’s grand old party and ultimately their ecosystem. We can see more such articles in future where a whole PR team tries to heat up the surroundings and make the hen fly.
There is this one thing that irritates me beyond imagination “the country is doomed, nothing would change“, especially when the person who utters these words has never lifted his damn little finger ever to fix or even make a tiny effort to fix something. This irritation turns into anger when the person turns out to be somebody who has been using subsidies in the name of caste based reservation and special minority.
My dear friend, I know you know that I am talking about you, I wouldn’t have written this, if you would have stopped spamming my inbox with stupid articles even when I asked you not to. You see a lot of issues with India because BBC says so, BBC never lies according to you.
I am glad that you sent this one, because I just needed to click on the links mentioned in the very same article to prove that your BBC creates news articles around a pre-defined narrative;which by the way is to just show India down. The interesting part is that this time you would not be able to question my research because everything I am writing in this article is from the reports/surveys linked by your truthful BBC in the article. If only you would have clicked on the hyperlinks and had a look at the sources, you would have seen that yours truly BBC did not write the complete truth.
In the article your BBC infers India’s growing alcohol consumption masks a darker reality. Since you are too busy I have color coded the content, the one with green are the statements from the BBC article as-is, not a word added or removed by me. You won’t have to switch between the sites to check if I cheated. By the what are you busy with? TikTok? Youtube? Gaming? Roaming on streets?
Whatever! Lets start. The article says:
“Yet, by volume, India is the world’s second-largest consumer of alcohol, behind China, according IWSR Drinks Market Analysis, a London-based research firm. India consumes more than 663 million litres of alcohol, up 11% from 2017. Per-capita consumption is rising.”
Every word your BBC wrote is true, 100%. But they intentionally forgot to mention a few things. Like, India and China top the list not because they are drinking too much, but because they are the largest and second largest populations in the world. In fact if you click on pre-capita consumption hyperlink above, you would see India is not even in the top ten list. Below are the two snapshots from the very same link:
That was India’s per capita consumption of 5.7 liters. Now look below:
That is BBC’s UK with 11.5 liters. You can see that every other country’s consumption is increasing. But that’s not all, there is a burnol moment if you notice carefully. Do you see that gender bias? India who according to BBC and you suppresses its women, has a bias of 7.7 liters (9.4 lt for men minus 1.7 for women) . However, BBC’s UK has a bias of 13.6 liters(18.4 lt for men minus 4.8 lt for women). May be women in the UK are not allowed to drink more, feminists should have a look here. Aww poor women of the UK. Now please don’t say 7.7 is bigger than 13.6.
Although, not relevant to this but in case you were wondering why their per capita consumption is decreasing? You should look at the change of demographics in the UK. The number is decreasing because the numbers of non-Muslim is decreasing and the number of Muslims is increasing (they stay away from liquor).
Anyway, moving on. Hang on, 15+? I din’t know 15 year olds were allowed to drink. Did you? Anyways, moving on.
Next in the BBC article:
“A third of Indian men drink alcohol, according to a new government report. More than 14% of all Indians aged between 10 and 75 drink. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates 11% of Indians are binge drinkers, against the global average of 16%.”
Again true. Every word your BBC wrote is true, 100%. But they intentionally forgot to mention a few things. Like, it is a survey and not a pure report. There is a difference, and a big one. Before I come to the difference, the survey has a title “Magnitude of Substance Use” and was conducted so as to answer questions like the one mentioned in the snapshot below that I pulled from the text, have a look at the underline part.
This means that the text is pulled out of context. The survey was not conducted across whole of India, but specifically to the parts that are/were struggling with substance abuse. You will see the same in the next paragraph below.
The survey uses two approaches: 1. Household Survey and 2. Respondent Driven Sampling.
In RDS, the surveyors questioned 72 thousand people with drug dependence, spread across around 135 districts only (India has a total of 640 districts). In HHS, the surveys questioned around 4 lakh people spread across 186 districts. If most of the districts out of 186 were in Punjab, the overall results would obviously be high. So, you should think about the reason as to why 186 districts were chosen out of 640. Its like going to Chennai and coming out with a survey claiming 75% of the people in India eat Dosa in breakfast. Does this make sense? That’s why I mentioned in the beginning, the purpose with which the survey was conducted is very critical.
So, a third of Indian men is not a third of men living in India, but it is the men who were questioned. More than 14% of Indians is the percentage of people questioned and not 14% of 1.38 billion. Please, have a look at the methodology of the survey.
Moving on, next in the article your BBC says:
“Also, the WHO reckons that “unrecorded” alcohol makes up more than half of all alcohol consumed in India. Locally brewed liquor, for example, is not recorded or taxed in some states. A survey by the International Alliance of Responsible Drinking in 2014 found a large number of drinkers preferring country liquor or homemade alcohol, often counterfeit and contraband.”
Again true. Every word your BBC wrote is true, 100%. But they intentionally forgot to mention a few things. This time it clearly mentions survey. But the survey in itself is quite interesting. First, the sample size. The surveyors questioned a total of whooping 6,088 people in all of India. Oh my god, so many people. How could they? Just to put the number in perspective. How many castes do we have? Last I knew the number was more than 5000 for OBC category and slightly more than 1200 for SC category. i.e. 6200 and that’s only two specific categories, I know the numbers because I wrote an article regarding this a year ago (When or How does a child become “caste-literate”?) you could get the links from where I got the number. The surveyor did not even cover one person from each caste let alone the 25,000 and more sub-castes.
Second, the large number of counterfeit and contraband mentioned in the article turns out to be 2% and 1% of not the total samples but the current drinkers. As per the survey the current drinkers were 39% of the total, that means 2375 people, 2% of them drinking counterfeit alcohol is a whooping 48 people and 1% of them drinking contraband is mind boggling 24. Some body should make a meme on it, 48 & 24 are large; some people have this many kids and wives combined. LOL! How large is large?
Nevertheless, moving on. Next in the article is:
“Indians are drinking more than before. A recent study of liquor consumption in 189 countries between 1990 and 2017 found that consumption in India had grown by 38% – from 4.3 litres a year per adult to 5.9 litres.”
Once again true. Every word your BBC wrote is true, perhaps not 100% true; the last number as per WHO is 5.7 (just scroll a few paragraphs up; I would not have pointed 0.2 liters out, but since it is in the very same article so becomes noticeable especially when the years are same.)
But once again they intentionally forgot to mention a few things. It could be true that the consumption grew by 38% between 1990 and 2017, but it is definitely true that the Indian population grew by 44% between 1990 to 2017 (from approx 800 million to 1.38 billion). On the contrary, the alcohol consumption did not increase in proportion to increase in population. May be because of the change in the demographics exactly like the UK, you could check for yourself which religion is growing more. Once again, you should have a look at the study, and check for yourself the purpose of the study, the sample size, the distribution of the samples, the condition of people questioned.
So, my dear friend how are you doing so far? Just stay with me for a little more. We are almost done for today.
Next the article says:
“Nearly 10% of adult men were found to be addicted to alcohol, according to the National Mental Healthy Survey, 2015-16. More than 60% of deaths due to cirrhosis of liver were linked to consumption of alcohol.”
This is completely an irrelevant piece of information. 10% of what? 60% of how many deaths? What was the sample size? The article does not shares the link but you could find the survey on internet, I found it. The survey was conducted on 32,000 people in 45 districts. Did I mention how many districts India has(you could scroll up)? The survey was specifically directed towards a goal to answer questions regarding people suffering from some sort of mental illness. So, once again 10% of what? Is it 10% of 32000 people sampled? Or 10% of the people from this sample who were mentally ill? Or 10% of the people who were mentally ill and were current drinkers? I will urge you to look at the survey and find this number on your own, I can give you the number right now, but I will not. It took me hours to read the damn report. Put your playstation aside and start reading the survey, and I can bet, you would be surprised as to how tiny that 10% is in reality. That could be a meme too.
So, here I will stop. For now. I am looking forward to your next link that you send me. I hope next time you will do some homework before hand. By the way, your BBC got the wrong number of states, we have 28 states now, not 29. Are they getting their current affairs via Pakistan? Not being able to digest the fact that J&K are not a state anymore?
Before I finish, let me tell you about one more survey, 80% of the well informed NRIs in Germany find BBC disgusting, useless and propaganda site. Since, you are my friend I will provide you with some extra details, which by the way I will forget to mention if I were a corporation like BBC and may be the readers wouldn’t notice if they were all like you. The survey had only five samples. Four out of five people called BBC disgusting, useless and propaganda, the fifth one claimed not to read so NA for him. #BiasedBullshitCorporation
Oh, now the sample size is too small and is not properly distributed. Come on, all the surveys above are like this, check the ratios, not too far fetched.
I would sincerely request all my readers to be careful of such news articles. There are always critical pieces of information which are kept hidden to create a narrative. I have been trying to bring those hidden aspects to the foreground for the articles that I come across. It is our responsibility to deflate narratives like these. I have absolutely no issues putting my time and efforts in reading these reports/surveys and writing about them. What I need from you is your support in spreading the awareness. Please share this post of mine at as many places as possible. More and more Indians need to be made aware of this. Please join me in my crusade to spread awareness.
Thank you for reading!!!
