The hypocrisy of Pakistan’s leading political party- PTI

0

Recently Pakistan’s leading political party- Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lead by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted in support of the climate activist Disha Ravi.

Imran Khan’s PTI tweeted that “India under Modi/RSS regime believes in silencing all voices against them as they did in IIOJK. Using cricketers & Bollywood celebrities narrative building was shameful enough, but now they have also taken Disha Ravi for custody over Twitter toolkit case.”

Imran Khan’s tweet supporting anti-India elements

This tweet came after Climate activist Disha Ravi was arrested on 13 February 2021 for alleged involvement with an online toolkit related to Greta Thunberg and the 2020-21 Farmer protest. Police alleged that Disha and others “collaborated with pro-khalistani Poetic Justice Foundation to spread disaffection against the Indian State.”

But the ironic thing is that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) commented on this even though their country and their army is doing the exact same thing. Yes that Pakistan where people celebrate when they kill an Ahmedi person in Peshawar court who was under trail for blasphemy case, that Pakistan who is responsible for killing of brave Baloch leaders like Sajid Baloch or Karima Baloch or brave journalist like Shaheena Shaheen. Pakistan is known to be the curse land for true journalism and activism. Pakistan comes at 145th place at the 2020 World Press Freedom Index. Here are the names of the activist and journalist on which Pakistan’s government and army tried to reduce the voices and their determination:

IDRIS KHATTAK

Idris Khattak, a Pakistani human rights activist and worker of the Balochistan-based National Party went “missing” and became a victim of enforced disappearance. He has been missing since 13 November 2019. He was forcibly disappeared in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by an unidentified group. No one knew about him until June 2020 when Pakistan authority acknowledged that he has been in the custody. Idris is now charged with “spying” among other offense, related to his monitoring of violations by military forces in 2009.

Human Rights Commission of Pakistan condemns the arrest of activist IDRIS KHATTAK

MOHAMMED ISMAIL, father of Gulalai Ismail

Mohammed Ismail, a retired professor of Urdu and member of a Pakistani NGO was arrested by the Counter Terrorism Department on charges of sedition, criminal conspiracy and under the Anti Terrorism Act of Pakistan. He is the father of Gulalai Ismail ,who is in exile in USA and she is an activist in the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) campaigning for Pashtun human rights, and previously served as a board member of Humanists International. She fled to US as she felt that she was in danger from the Pakistani army for speaking and raising her voice against the sexual assault and forced disappearance carried by the Pakistani army. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, an independent monitoring group, in a statement said the case against professor Ismail and the “interminable cycle of ludicrous charges, arrests and court dates are nothing more than heavy-handed tactics targeting his daughter — a respected rights activist”.

As per February 2021 , Gulalai Ismail tweeted that Anti-Terrorism court Peshawar has refused bail to her father Professor Muhammad Ismail, despite of fragile post-COVID health and knowing that the intent of this case was mala-fide.

Tweet of Gulalai Ismail as on 15th Feb 2021.

MANZOOR AHMAD PASHTEEN

Manzoor Ahmad Pashteen is a Pashtun human rights activist from South Waziristan, Pakistan. Pashteen, a charismatic speaker and a defender of the Pashtun ethnic group, has been thrust into the spotlight as leader of this new movement. On January 2020 Manzoor was arrested for alleged conspiracy and sedition.

Human rights advocates immediately criticized the arrest, saying the government was misusing laws banning sedition, conspiracy, hate speech and intimidation to stifle legitimate dissent. Large number of people gathered in support of Manzoor Ahmed Pashteen and #ReleaseManzoorPashteen was trending on twitter.

MATIULLAH JAN

Matiullah Jan is a senior Pakistan Journalist who is known to have critical views against the military establishment of Pakistan. He was kidnapped from a school where his wife teaches, a day ahead of his appearance at Pakistan’s Supreme Court by armed men in uniform. Many videos started trending showing how Matiullah was kidnapped. Lot of people including big journalist supported him and made this a trending topic . He was later released after 12 hours after being abducted.

Popular Pakistani journalist HAMID MIR tweets a videos showing abduction of Matiullah Jan.

There are many more instances as well because of which Pakistan is not considered a safe country for true and fair journalism. After Chinese investing in CPEC it is believed that Pakistan also is hiring the ideology of Chinese that is harming and torturing the media. Pakistan’s government in power should stop making its citizen fool .The Prime Minister of Pakistan and his party PTI should concentrate on the problems of the Pakistani people and Pakistani economy and should not comment on the Internal matters of India.

AndolanJeevis: What is the end game here?

0

Let’s get one thing clear. We all love hypocrisy. In fact, we absolutely cherish it. Whether its in the case of an adult telling the child to stay away from sweets while galloping on choicest of sweets, or in case of us cursing another driver on the road for not following the traffic rules while taking that prohibited U-turn as the specified one will be too far, or in case of a man advocating equality for women while ordering her own daughter to not go out in the night.

The thing is we knowingly or unknowingly exhibit hundreds of hypocritical behavior on a daily basis. When we do it knowingly or when someone points it out, we justify our behavior by giving a context to it, or a historical reason for it, or by total denial. Whatever way possible; which is not wrong as we are not living in a vacuum or in a jungle by on our own. We live in a society with a history of thousands of years.

When each one of us is a hypocrite then the question becomes what is the level of hypocrisy do we deem acceptable? If we do not call a father Patriarchal who does not allow his daughter to roam around in the middle of the night as there are real threats lurking all around because we do not live in a perfect society, then do we also not call a father hypocrite/criminal who teaches his kid to be honest while extorting money out of a poor man’s pocket.

Despite what the colonial apologists would want you to believe, the fact is when India won her freedom, our literacy rate was 12% and our life expectancy was 31 years. That means out of 100, 88 people could not even write their name in their mother tongue and people were not expected to live to see their kids getting married or even their childhood!

The challenges at the time were different, the priorities were different so we should not completely disregard the ecosystem that we were left with after 67 years of Independence when the autocrat Modi rose to the power back in 2014. However, we should not forget that despite the long strides we had taken in improving standard of life for every citizen, we were left with a political and governance system where Sainbari Incident was made acceptable for the ruling class, where a political party got the highest mandate which had just led the massacre of thousands of people belonging to the bravest community of India, where communal riots were made part and parcel of the society we lived in, where the suspicious death of a sitting Prime Minister is forgotten, where a whole community is killed, raped and thrown out from their homes for being born in their faith while the ‘Seculars’ blamed them for their plight, where scams of the humongous proportions were just another of the perks for being in power.

I can go on and on and on. The point is we had a broken political system, a non-functional governance system, a creaking law & order situation, a fragile five economy and a disillusioned society when the so-called ‘nikkardhari‘ came to power in 2014.

We cannot blame our previous generation for the state of affairs (whether due to fear, or greed, or compulsion, or laziness, or complicity, or lack of knowledge or complete disdain); they toiled hard to make their children self-sufficient in a society that was adverse to their teachings, their spirituality, their beliefs and their principles. They might not have taken the bull by their horns but they did enough for us to not forget the roots from we came from which was instrumental in bringing a ‘Hindu-Fascist’ to power in 2014.

Its easy to forget how India was 6 years back. Who would have thought that India would emerge as the Covid Vaccine gateway of the world or it would become the hub of the Space sector in the world, just a few years back? India has made gigantic strides in every field whether Infrastructure, Poverty alleviation, Basic amenities, Health, Defense, Foreign Policy, Fight against terrorism, or Economy. But one thing we have surely downgraded in is our Political discourse. Forget the terrible names given to the person sitting on the highest executive chair of the country, the general politics has stooped to such a level that the party which ruled independent India for more than 60 years is openly siding with Khalistanis, Islamists, Naxalites and foreign forces who want to constantly see India on the boil (if not breakup into pieces).

So is it just the hatred for one person or the frustration of not being able to come to power or sheer incompetence on the part of opposition which has led to such terrible circumstances? Well its a mix of all these factors and ONE MORE. They are banking on your patience and hypocrisy to change their fortunes! Confused??? Well, let me explain.

Nation building is a long arduous task which takes decades of right direction and effort. Nations are not built in 5 or 10 years specially the ones as huge and diverse as India. We all know its going to take sustained efforts of 2-3 decades to build a prosperous nation. But the elections are every 5 years! Or worse, every few months! Only a vigilant person would be able to see the strides being made in different fields as the TRP hungry media keeps you distracted with a new “doomsday” scenario every other day. So its easy to miss all the work being done specially when you have so many problems still to be fixed or addressed. Not everyone has the time, energy, interest or even intellect to see all that is being done so its easy to lie to people that nothing is being done and some of them would believe. Patience is not easy specially when the promise was of “Achche Din“!

Its easy to argue and justify anything in this world especially when you bring out the “whataboutery” argument. As I mentioned earlier, we all are hypocrites at certain level but most of us do have the basic intelligence level to differentiate between the hypocrisy of breaking a traffic rule ourselves while preaching others; and the hypocrisy of pointing fingers at others for a lynching while killing hundreds everyday. But that is the intelligence that is under constant scrutiny in these last 6.5 years.

For example, we are told that Farmer protests are by “gareeb annadatta” who are fighting for their survival but when you ask what are pizza counters, massage chairs, dish antennas, or big SUVs doing in these protests then you are termed as hypocrite. We are told that Shaheen Bagh protests are by “Dadis and Nanis” who are fighting for their citizenship rights but when you ask how CAA will take away their citizenship then you are a hypocrite. We are told that building Ram Mandir is unconstitutional as “Babri Masjid” was demolished in 1992 but when you ask about Gyanvapi Mosque or Sarnath Temple or Takshila university or Nalanda university or 1000s of other temples/universities then you are labelled as a hypocrite.

The point is all this is done to question your intelligence. You are being made to think whether “Hinduon se Aazadi” is the same as “Hindutva se Aazadi” or not, whether a farmer can speak English or not; when you should be asking an even more basic question why someone needs Aazadi in a free country at all, why nobody is able to point out the reason for protests when the farm laws do not do away with the old system that was already in place? You are being asked to think whether blocking major roads and highways is the right way to protest, when you could be thinking why there needs to be a protest at all?

And this has been done day in and day out on every single matter since last 6.5 years. You have limited energy and patience, they don’t. You get tired of finding out yourself whether every small decision taken by the govt is right or not which might require you to study a lot of historical context, huge statistical data, and what not. If you start relying on “Experts” for your own opinions then they have you where they want you to be as “Your expert” vs “My expert” game can be played and your inherent hypocrisy can be used against your own intelligence.

This is the game. Its not easy to keep defending each and every small decision of a Govt you might support and voted for without being labelled as a “Bhakt” and they know it. They are waiting for you to run out of patience, that’s why they keep opposing anything and everything under the sun.

But never forget the larger picture that is at stake here. Your previous generations have toiled hard to make you reach where you are. Don’t give up just because its too much noise or because you are not an “expert” or because no govt can be right all the time or because its embarrassing. That is what they want!

Do schools inject Corona virus?

Promise became procrastination

It’s been almost a year since the students began making peace with virtual classes, etiquettes and, of course, their dreams as well. It all started with a decent suggestion made way back on March 24, 2020– “If India doesn’t manage the lockdown for these 21 days then India will be pushed back by 21 years.” Needless to say, the Indian students doubt if the void of their academic loss would be filled at earliest, or whether the void is going to be there longer like an everlasting damage in their scholastic career. Nothing could be ascertained as of now especially in such a time when education seems to succumb to both procrastinations and fake priorities.

Just Because School is Neither Temple nor Mosque!

Those sitting in rolling chairs easily underestimate that a student’s first pilgrimage is his school and not their political shrines. A student’s first religion is education, his deities teachers, and his books scriptures. They fail to acknowledge that a school’s door also leads to the same god as their temples and mosques do, but only through many non-mythical check points.

Relevantly, it’s been around three months since religious places are open for the public with some showy and loose safety measures. Forget that, even the administrative bodies witnessed huge gatherings in every nook and corner of Hindustan during the stone laying ceremony in Ajodhya. Nonetheless, they didn’t dare to put it on any “nation wants to know” channel sincerely. Because the nation wanted to know, but they never wanted to explain anything apart from an overwhelming actor’s suicide.

Just because political rallies are vaccinated

One season is perennial in India: the season of politics. The season which showers political rallies like cats and dogs all over our country, sometimes even outdoing the annual monsoon, which eventually yields prosperity, perhaps huge prosperity, but unluckily for only a bunch of cunning people, backed up by crores of half-stomached children of Mother India.

We view one-like-many political clowns entertaining the paid public in their paid gatherings now and then, even these days when educational institutions, the brain of India, are locked to empty and dusty class rooms so as to minimize the corona cases.

Although we seldom discover these street clowns on any news channel playing with their self-made Covid-19 safety rules, we can quite easily catch them displaying their magic in their vaccinated rallies on some unsponsored internet platforms like Facebook and Twitter.

Educational Institutions may Inject Corona?

Nowadays, when public markets, malls, transports, religious places, and other such crowd-calling places are open with no administrative check-up of the safety measures being followed strictly; schools, where there’s probably more scope of fighting any battle in a civilized and well-channelized manner, are struggling to keep up with darkening future of their children and the higher authorities’ orders via online classes, which acts like a winking cat in the race of knowledge.

That being said, a few over-sensitive parents always protest the re-opening of schools in a fully-fledged manner. Logically, we simply can’t put the national progress on hold for these parents over-fearing a few cases of some mishaps being reported in some states owing to re-opening of schools.

These are, shocking to say, the same parents who violate their own ideals while taking their children to restaurants, malls, markets, religious places, parks, and playgrounds, and to all such places where the international disease is hanging over their little hearts’ heads. Nevertheless they, along with our administrative bodies, still believe school is the only place where their children can be injected with Corona.

Corona Days or National Holidays?

Brain and ideas are essential to keep up with each other for a healthy life. Similarly, teachers and students come together on the forefront to redirect the course a nation’s future. However, only those fortunate teachers who serve the nation in the eyes of government, are proudly called the nation builders, while a lot many remain unintroduced out of the government’s focus.

There are lakhs of private street teachers whose determination for the nation building are destined to remain unregistered. Even though they don’t give a damn to it. They are generally not those who sleep peacefully on the first day of every month being asuured of their salary being deposited in their account.

These street-teachers are rather proudly those who wake up every day with a sense of grit in their blood, to glorify the journey of a legend from being no one to someone in the colleges, coaching centers, schools, and tuitions, which they own or work in, either.

These unsung private teachers are not sure sometimes if they would be able to fetch their own children’s books on time. Ironically, their own educational institutions’ doors and windows are awaiting half-opened, allowing only a few students to walk in, with cautious steps and steal the beads of knowledge lest the khakhee giants patrolling in the streets outside would arrest their masters and impose any official disaster management act on them. In short, the law would re-cage the masters in their own institutions, where they’ve been already suffocating for the last one year.

A letter to the Prime Minister to lessen the divide between Northern and Southern states

0

Sir,

As today on 14.02.2021, you are on the visit of Tamil Nadu and Kerala State and greeting the gathering with Vannakam, I have a humble request.

As a person hailing basically from North India (Haryana) and settled in the Southern state of Karnataka since last 13 years, I feel extremely happy and delighted the kind of support, help and affection I receive here from my brothers and sisters from the southern states of Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Now most of my close friends and family friends are from these southern states. The strong feeling of oneness as being the citizens of India is observed in the behavior of all the persons with whom I interact daily at both professional and personal level. Here, I never feel that I am 2000 KMs away from my Hometown.

Delhi, the capital of whole India, is geographically located at a quite far distance from the southern states of India. But physical distance is not a hindrance to the residents of southern states from having keen interest in the events, happenings and news of Delhi, whether political or Non-political in nature. I personally feel that when residents of the southern states visit Delhi, it will be delightful for them if they find statues of the legendary poets from their own state in national capital.

I request you to think about the idea of installing statues of Kannada poet Sarvjana from Karnataka, Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar from, Malayalam poet Poonathanam from Kerala, Telugu poet Yogi Vemana from Andhra Pradesh at the various locations in Delhi. The key sayings or famous verses of these great poets like Vachanas in case of Sarvajna should be inscribed in English and Hindi on the plaque of their statues. I have mentioned name of only few poets for example here, there many other great poets and philosophers from the southern states whose teachings are not only relevant to whole India but universal in nature.

Tamil poet Thiruvalluvar’s statue in SOAS, London University, London

This gesture will not only strengthen national integration and feeling of oneness among all the citizens of India and encourage interstate cultural exchange, it will also give the opportunity to the residents of Delhi and north India especially to the younger generation, to learn from the great teachings of poets and philosophers form the southern states. Where our younger generation knows about the numerous western philosophers and thinkers, we should also provide them opportunity to them to learn from the writings and ideas of legendary Indian poets from various states.

The locations for the statues of poets can be Airport complex, Railway stations, Metro stations and other prominent public places.

Whenever a youngster with smart phone in hand will see the statue of Sarvajna with his Vachanas inscribed on the plaque of the statue, it will definitely evoke curiosity to google more about Sarvajna, his sayings, teachings and philosophy. This phenomenon will make the younger generation more aware about the rich and great heritage of India.

Red Fort 26/1: Fall from grace for Government

0

No logic, explanation or means can justify or defend the vandalism of protesters on 26 Jan in Delhi. Time will tell the tale of ramifications of this act of vandalism on Republic day.

If you are a common citizen of the country, the events of 26 Jan 2021 at Red Fort would have caused deep anguish, anger and ripples down your spine. The vandalism and subsequent hoisting of a religious flag on the ramparts of historic Red Fort left each patriotic Indian with great shame- it is of course a national dishonour. A monument which is symbolic to the freedom of India and to its existence as a nation; a sacred place for Indians which holds highest regards as the Tricolour is hoisted by the PM each year on eve Independence day. Remember this day dear Indians.

Revisit of Jallianwala Bagh events

In college I was an NCC cadet and in 1991 as part of a cycle expedition we were to halt at Amritsar for the night. Our officer declared break next day to visit the historic city and we first paid our respect at Harmandir Sahib and then went to Jallianwalla Bagh. We have grown up on stories of our freedom struggle and the events of 13 April 1919 are deeply etched in our memory. A great sense of melancholy engulfed me as I saw the park, bullet marks and could visualise their jumping into the well in attempt to save lives. Little did I know that the country will see similar incident as we saw the Delhi Police jumping off the ramparts of Red Fort to save themselves on 26 Jan 2021.

Coup de grace and fall from grace

The act of flag hoisting at Red Fort by the mob was coup de grace served to the Govt which had failed to resolve the issue for past three months. Total inability of the Delhi and GoI to ensure law and order has pointed many figures towards them. It has pasted a stigma on the face of the country which should be and will be remembered in history. The high respect and admiration people had for the PM or HM has been shattered.  It has become apparent that no one in this country is beyond petty politics; yes, not even Modi. Each party wants to be on winning side of an issue irrespective of the cost.  What a fall!!

Failure of Modi & Co

Without going into any analysis of the bills, the events so far have only revealed failure of the PM and his team for two reasons. First, inability of the Govt to resolve the deadlock and second, inability to prevent an attack of mob on Red fort. Three months is a long time but neither could Govt convince the farmers about benefits of the bills nor could it finish and dispel the protests from the borders of Delhi. Why no action was taken on the protesters is the question which should trouble the minds of all sane citizens of the country.

Has the right to protest become an absolute right; the inaction of the Govt whether it was anti CAA protest earlier or now farmers protest, is beyond comprehension. By being non committal the Govt has legitimised the protests and if that be the case they should accept the mistake on both accounts and take back the bills. While, it is the same Govt which lathi-charged its own veterans in 2015 who were peacefully protesting for OROP at designated place without any obstruction to anyone. Different strokes for different folks and the only evident reason is votes. This dilly-dally of the Govt allowed time and space to anti national forces to combine hands and gather attention of international community through these protests. The intensity of such incidents is likely to increase in future.

The second question is as to how a mob can enter into the capital city when it had highest security arrangements in multiple layers in view of Republic day. Something doesn’t seem to be right! Was it a planned act to allow protesters to reach Red fort and let them carry out vandalism. May be the Govt was looking for some face saving and it was allowed as part of their strategy.

Vote bank first

Both anti CAA and farmers protest have one lesson in common. The ultimate aim of every party is to secure its vote bank and all means are acceptable to achieve it. No party can antagonise any community since we vote only for our caste or religion. This can be the only possible reason that Govt neither took any action on anti CAA protesters who blocked road for over couple of months causing inconvenience to public nor did it take any action on farmers who have laid seize on Delhi borders causing disruption of day to day life of other citizens. The message is loud and clear; you can hold the country to ransom and all eyes & ears will be shut provided you have sizeable vote bank.

End of reforms?

The nature of the protests has it made very clear that henceforth the laws will not be made in Parliament but on the streets. Protests are the norm of the day, challenging the sanctity of the Parliament itself. This will have serious repercussions on the future reforms in the country. It is but obvious the no Govt will take any strong stand against the protesters for fear of losing the vote bank.

Dangerous emerging dimensions of politics

The MPs are supposed to reason and discuss issues of concern in the house in a civilised way. We all know their conduct in the house, lesser said the better. But, a more alarming trend which has come to fore is opposing the Govt on the streets through protests/violence rather than logic and facts in the Parliament. So the question arises that if political parties themselves do not believe in the Parliament, then can a common citizen repose faith in it? Secondly, if the laws are to be made on the streets, then why have a Parliament at all? Anti CAA and anti farm bill protests are cases in point. May better sense prevail in my countrymen!

Budget 2021 gives boost to SVAMITVA Yojana– making rural India AtmaNirbhar

0

SVAMITVA Yojana is a pioneering scheme undertaken by the Modi Government to transform rural India, with the help of technology. Mapping and survey of inhabited regions in most Indian villages has never been done from the perspective of ascertaining land ownership. This will create massive requirement for local drones and jobs.

SVAMITVA stands for ‘Survey of villages and mapping with improvised technology in village areas’. It is a Central Sector scheme launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister on National Panchayat Day i.e April 24 2020. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR) is the Nodal Ministry for implementation of the scheme, with the help of drone technology partner, Survey of India (SOI).

Most villagers in rural areas don’t have proper ownership documents for their residential properties. Under this yojana, the government will use drones to map all residential properties inside village borders to ascertain land ownership. Drones will be used to create digital maps of villages and on the basis of these maps, owners of residential properties in villages will be given a title deed (sampatti card) by respective state governments.

Holders of land title deeds would be able to use their property for availing loans, and it would also allow to bring those properties under the tax bracket. The focus is on accurate land records, dispute-resolution, direct benefit transfers and panchayat level planning.

Scope of the scheme

Under the scheme, about 6.6 lakh villages will be digitally mapped over four years (2021-2024), which means that on an average, about 1.6 lakh villages will have to be mapped every year. A drone will be able to cover 4-5 villages in a day. This will be a challenging task keeping in mind flying conditions with the onset of monsoon, fog etc.

The pilot phase of SVAMITVA had been approved with a budget outlay of about Rs 80 crore, to cover around 115,000 villages in 9 States viz. Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Punjab, Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh. Till January 31, 2021, Drone Survey has been completed in about 23,300 villages. Property Cards have been prepared and distributed/under distribution to about 2.30 lakh property holders of about 1,432 villages.

The MoPR has estimated an outlay of about Rs 566 crore for extending the scheme to rest of India, to cover nearly 5.41 lakh villages. Budget 2021 has made a provision of Rs 200 crore for the SVAMITVA scheme, targeting 2.3 lakh villages in 16 States.

SOI has deployed about 130 Drone Teams in the States, which is expected to increase to 250 by March 2021 and about 500 by March 2022. Each drone costs approx Rs 10 lacs. Apart from procuring drones, SOI is also looking to outsource certain aspects of the project to drone service providers such as processing and other modules.

SOI, the technology partner has called on private companies in the drone ecosystem to assist it. The responsibility of safety and security and ownership of data will lie with SOI. With an emphasis on ‘Make in India’ preference, SOI is looking to release drone procurement tenders of small sizes to encourage participation of MSMEs and start-ups recognised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT).

Technology

MoPR has supported the SOI in establishing what is called a CORS Network (Continuous Operating Reference Stations), which will allow the organisation to eliminate its GPS requirements. These will just be like mobile towers where they are continuously transmitting the correct position of the pilot controller, which can be directly linked with the drone. This particular technology is expected to speed up the data acquisition process.

Drones which are either RTK (Real Time Kinematic) or PPK (Post-Processing Kinematic) enabled are to be used for the mapping. RTK is a real-time satellite navigation technique used to enhance the precision of position data derived from satellite-based positioning systems. With PPK workflow, accurate positioning doesn’t happen in real time, all algorithms are applied afterwards. PPK offers more flexible workflow, allowing to run the processing multiple times using different settings.

The drones would all be equipped with a high resolution RGB camera with a minimum resolution of 15 megapixel or more, have a minimum 64 GB of onboard storage, RFID or a SIM card slot for real-time tracking and 128 bit encryption to protect the data, among other things. These drones would also be equipped with a navigation software package that enables planning and performing complex flight patterns for different surveying applications and would allow the combination of telemetry data with the recorded images/ data.

Conclusion

The drone requirements for SVAMITVA scheme have boosted the Drone Manufacturing sector in India. This is the first time ever that such a large-scale exercise involving most modern technology is being carried out to benefit millions of rural property owners. SVAMITVA scheme has the potential to transform rural India and uplift the rural economy. Successful implementation of this scheme would be the stepping-stone towards achieving Gram Swaraj in true sense and making rural India AtmaNirbhar.

Hindu Bengalis of east Pakistan and Bangladesh: A persecuted & forgotten community

During early 2019, I chanced upon the news of an article entitled “No Hindu will be left after 30 years”. The article pertained to Bangladesh and was written by Dr Abul Barkat, a professor of Economics in Dhaka University in his book ‘Political economy of reforming agriculture-land-water bodies in Bangladesh’. The book was published in November 2016. The title of the article sounded dramatic to me at first. But when I read it, I was jolted from my worst geo-politico-religious slumber.

While addressing his book launching ceremony in Dhaka University Dr Barkat said, “From 1964 to 2013, around 11.3 million Hindus left Bangladesh due to religious persecution and discrimination”. It means on an average 632 Hindus left the country each day and 230,612 annually.

The Hindu Bengalis of West Bengal, including descendants of refugees from East Pakistan and Bangladesh, have all along been melting with ‘Epar Bangla, Opar Bangla’ sentiment and practicing secularism with all assertiveness. They have been shouting on Hindu-Muslim unity among Bengalis on either side of border. However, in West Bengal some such refugees, a generation back, used to lament ‘Aamago Ekta Deysh Aasilo’ (we had a village / town / district / country).

Blinded by secularism, some refugees like Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya even publicly ate beef in Kolkata during 2015 to express solidarity with Muslims of India. But at what cost they have been doing so? This collective amnesia of Hindu Bengali refugees about their trauma, loss and plight was a direct result of their initiation to Communism in West Bengal, which whitewashed their past painful memories. These refugees and their descendants even have become Muslim leaning and show classic manifestation of ‘Stockholm Syndrome’.

During January 2018, there was a massive and violent protest by Muslims of West Bengal to settle Rohingya Muslims in the state. Surprisingly, Hindu Bengalis of West Bengal during last seven decades never wanted to know about the plight of Hindu Bengalis in East Pakistan / Bangladesh and refugees from there. For them the latter did not exist. This dichotomy of behavior between Hindu Bengalis and Muslim Bengalis of West Bengal, about their respective fellow co-religionists in adjacent countries and their refugee status in India, was too obvious and vociferous to me.

Yasmin Khan, in her book “The Great Partition: The making of India and Pakistan” (published in 2008 by Yale University), has pointed out that unlike North West India, migration of Hindus from East Pakistan to India was prolong and convoluted.

She wrote that Hindus, unlike in West Pakistan, did not migrate from East Pakistan en masse during 1946-48. It happened gradually. “By 1951, there were at least three million (Hindu) refugees squeezed into every nook and cranny of Calcutta…………. The war of 1971, and secession of Bangladesh from Pakistan, exacerbated the human crisis in the region and, by 1973; West Bengal was coping with a (Hindu) refugee population of around six million……

Fears of outright persecution were strengthened by real assaults and murders of East Bengali (Hindus) in the grievous riots in Khulna, Chittagong, Barisal and Sylhet in 1950 and the ruthless requisitioning of Hindu property by a partisan and unaccountable state administration………

The riots in East Bengal (East Pakistan) 1950 proved the final straw for Mandal (Jogendra Nath Mandal) and many others. Mandal wrote to Liaqaut Ali Khan ‘News of killing of hundreds of innocent Hindus in trains, on railway lines between Dacca and Narayanganj, and Dacca and Chittagong gave me the rudest shock’……

By early 1950, some of the Congress (party members of India) regarded war as possibly the only solution that would stop the tide of refugees, push back (East) Pakistan’s borders and create a safe zone for non-Muslims (Hindus) in East Bengal (East Pakistan) which could be subsumed within Indian Territory.”

The persecution of Hindus which started during 1947 in East Pakistan was carried out continuously by state sponsored indulgence and support in both East Pakistan / Bangladesh through decades and compelled Dr Abul Barkat to make such objective observation as late as in 2016.

I hope that the Hindu youths of West Bengal need to revisit the history of persecution of Hindu Bengalis in East Pakistan / Bangladesh and their painful migration to West Bengal (and Assam). What puzzles me most is the fact that between 1951 and 2011, proportion of Hindus had reduced in East Pakistan / Bangladesh from 22% to 9%. But, Muslim population in West Bengal has increased from 19.5% to 27% during the same period despite migration of millions of Hindus from East Pakistan and Bangladesh into the state.

This gross fallacy of population growth needs close scrutiny. And story of the plight of millions of Hindu refugees from East Pakistan and Bangladesh to West Bengal (and Assam) needs to be rekindled and recorded in right premise to shake up the Hindu Bengalis of West Bengal from their misplaced secular slumber.

Millions of Hindu Bengalis were forced to leave East Pakistan / Bangladesh from 1947 in continuous fashion with major peaks in 1950 (Partition), 1964 (Hazarbal crisis), 1971 (Liberation war) and 1992 (Babri mosque). The worst was in 1971. Pakistani rulers inflamed the passion of Jihad during 1970 among the East Pakistani Bengali Muslims who formed Jihadi organizations like Al Badr, Al Shams and Rajakar and got engaged in ethnic cleansing of Hindu Bengalis of East Pakistan. It was estimated that out of 30 lakhs East Pakistanis killed during Bangladesh liberation, 25 lakhs were Hindus. Pakistani rulers thought that by channelizing Jihad of local East Pakistani Muslim Bengalis against East Pakistani Hindu Bengalis, the former would be able to save East Pakistan.

The writer-philosopher George Santayana is credited with the phrase: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” If Hindu Bengalis of West Bengal don’t remember their past ethnic cleansing in East Pakistan and Bangladesh, they are doomed to repeat it in near future in West Bengal also. This is no BJP/RSS propaganda, as I have given references from to two Muslim scholars here.

Sweeping the rude facts of persecution of Hindu Bengalis in East Pakistan and Bangladesh under the secular carpet of West Bengal will not be of any help. There is a term called “Collective Memory”, that enables those cruel stories of sufferings to come back to haunt the community, even after generations, and in absence of any conscious effort.
