What the ‘liberal’ media wont tell you about Justin Trudeau

0

Freedom of press is often told to be in grave danger since 2014. Not sure how free was the press before. Presumably the fourth pillar of democracy is always under the impression that its very fragile and ready to crumble.

What we will see shortly is how strangely the Indian media behaves, self-censors and seldom indulge in non-informative opeds. when it comes to informing the citizens of this country about the shortcomings of a Liberal PM who is on his 7 day visit to India.

Recently Canadian PM is touring India. Justin Trudeau was already an eye-candy before the he won the race defeating the conservatives. Some liberals went to an extent to assume that the Ivanka was also drooling for the Canadian PM when they met and none of the feminist found it misogynist or to be in poor taste to say the least.

None the less his win inspired many liberals in India. Some hailed his cabinet choices and compared with Indian govt allocating the ministries. When a veteran Harjit Singh Sajjan took over the defence portfolio, this was seen as the ultimate resource allocation by many liberals. The style in which Trudeau come and deliver his speech, when he rolls up his sleeves before he speaks, probably resonated with many liberals here as there is also a supposedly youth leader who delivers his speeches in same manner.

Before we go further what I would like to point out is that when PM Modi made his maiden visit to US, the newspapers like Huff Post and NY Times carried many stories to ensure that the audience is aware of the shortcomings of the newly elected PM. Some of them are listed below:

Well the names quoted are nothing new. There was a very senior Indian Journalist who was asking highly opinionated questions to the crowd members assembled for PM’s first visit but ended by in a fist fight.

Compare that with oped, articles, or news about the Canadian PM visiting India. While many in Canada have picked up the sentiment that the Pm by not ‘breaking the protocol’ as he did for previous leaders of the state has showed his priorities and not treated the Canadian PM right. This sentiment has also been shared by many Indian Journalist.

Not one journalist wrote that the current Canadian PM is been castigated by Ethics Committee who found him in the violation of the norms. The Canadian PM accepted an expensive holiday at Billionaire’s Island owned by Aga Khan, a billionaire and leader of Ismaili Muslims.

The probe began in April-May 2017 and since then the PM has been dodging every possible opportunity to answer this question. This is a different issue that one case of Indian Justin is also probed by Lal Krishna Advani as a head of Ethics committee but seem to reach no conclusion. A lesson to learn for speedy investigation… probably yes.

The Canadian PM also gave $10.5 Million Canadian Dollars, with an apology to an Ex Terrorist ‘Omar Khadr’ in order to rehabilitate him. This guy has pleaded guilty of killing a soldier of Delta forces in 2012. Being a Canadian Citizen, Omar filled a lawsuit for over $20.0 Million but the PM was quick to make a settlement offer and issue an apology.

Liberals are not different anywhere. What differs is the scale. Liberals in India offered a sewing-machine to rehabilitate a dreaded criminal.

Lets also talked about the Justin as a great leader who knows the ultimate resource allocation which was displayed by his ministry allocation. The minister who was given the portfolio of Defense was ‘Harjit Sajjan’. This guy was hailed the architect of Operation Medusa, one of the bloodiest and most pivotal battles of the Afghan war in 2006. Men in uniform are known for their integrity, but very soon the Defense minister was accused of ‘Stolen Valor’. The PM stood by his minister’s side firmly in the initial days only to accept an apology from his minister in the house of commons. With such a breach of integrity, the PM dismissed this as a mistake from which the minister would learn.

Does this remind you of a CM who stood by his Law minister in the initial days of accusations, only to be proven wrong?

Men are often judged by the company they keep. The PM himself was found exaggerating about himself claiming to have thought pre-law to students about to graduate from high school in British Columbia, forgetting that he himself is not a Law Graduate. He seems to have little stints as bouncer, snow board instructor and a drama teacher.

Not answering the questions in Parliament, the Pm took it to the streets where he was attending small town halls. He made a joke out of a serious issue when he interrupted a female speaker for using the word ‘Mankind’ and asked her to use ‘People-Kind’ as it would sound inclusive. Such trivializing a serious issue was good enough to set twitter on fire.

Not to mention where he compared the immigration of  ISIS terrorist to immigration of Italian labor force in the past.

Does this remind you of a leader from opposition here who manages to trivialize any serious issue which are faced by the society with obnoxious comparison like women empowerment and wearing shorts? A leader who used to claim to be MPhil but not now?

The support of the Canadian PM to the community in Canada who calls for disintegration of India came under heavy criticism by Indian and Canadian observers.

On one hand the GOI is giving very strong signals to the Canadian PM after Indian PM raised this issue with Canadian PM in the side-lines of Davos and Punjab CM holding it ground in the interest of the Indian Nation, senior functionaries of INC are just dreaming of hugging the Canadian PM.

One of the spokespersons of INC who overwhelmingly talks about secularism, went to an extreme of praising Catholic values of the Canadian PM. Now this was to impress Canadian Justin or mother of Indian Justin, that’s for the readers to decide.

Both the Indian and Canadian Justins are children of ex-Prime Ministers, maybe that’s why the foot-soldiers of INC are seeing the mirror image of their leader in Canadian Justin. All that’s remaining now is to declare him as Shiv Bhakt, Janeu Dhari Justin.

The old BJP must take an immediate crash course from the new, Yogi Adityanath vs other BJP CMs

0

Vandalizing a UNESCO World Heritage site should have been provocation enough for any government to bring the full might of the law to bear on the perpetrators. So, when members of an obscure band of small-time bullies that calls itself the Karni Sena barged into Rajasthan’s historical Chittorgarh fort in May 2017 and destroyed installations in Rani Padmini’s palace there, it was incumbent on the BJP Government of Rajasthan to throw the book at the ringleaders and nip this idiocy in the bud.

However, CM Vasundhara Raje’s government with its non-action emboldened the goons, who with the help of the mainstream media that thrives on perpetual sensationalism were soon issuing physical threats over television to the makers and actors of the Bollywood movie Padmavati. Even as the contagion of threats and random vandalism spread to the neighbouring states of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana, all BJP-ruled states, their Chief Ministers appeared completely clueless to tackle half a dozen Karni Sena leaders and a few hundred of their petty street thugs.

Contrast this to how a young Chief Minister of the same party with less than a year in office handled this situation. When the movie Padmavati was certified by the Central Board of Film Certification and the UP CM Yogi Adityanath was asked about possible disruptions in UP, the CM’s laconic reply was that film would run without any hitch in his state. Later when a few members of the Karni Sena tried to indulge in vandalisms in UP, stern police action ensured the goons ran back to their holes with their tails between their legs and not a squeak was heard from them again.

Though it’s absolutely true that in Bollywood in the last few decades there have been many instances of a strong bias against Hindus, sometimes ridiculing Hindu customs and religious practices openly and at other times more subtlety, while often presenting a morally superior non-Hindu character or completely whitewashing the crimes of historical non-Hindu figures, the egregious pusillanimity shown by the governments was in no way driven by a desire to call out the anti-Hindu prejudice of Bollywood or to stand by its real core voters.

This is simply an inexplicable urge to bend over backwards to mollycoddle any group outside its own voter base, taking its own core voters for granted, which has plagued the BJP for years. Perhaps it stems from ignorance of who their real voters are and what they want, or a desire to run after imaginary extra votes, or maybe even a lack of confidence in their own ability to decisively confront a baleful fringe group. Whatever might be the reason, this policy always causes the problem to assume much greater proportions later, calling for difficult firefighting measures, and a loss of its core support base.

When some Jat groups, clearly with patronage from Congress quarters, created mayhem in Haryana a couple of years ago, CM Manohar Khattar’s government watched for days as Jat rioters unleashed a reign of terror destroying millions of Rupees worth of public property and those of communities that actually voted for the BJP. More recently the same government again stood petrified when supporters of the now convicted Dera Saccha Sauda chief Baba Ram Rahim poured in as he was being brought to court for sentencing. Finally, the police were ordered to take action which quelled the protests in a day, debunking the myth of a possible protracted agitation. But taking the far simpler measure of preventing people to congregate right at the beginning would have saved many lives and avoided the loss of property.

What makes such behaviour really incomprehensible is that the Khattar government has been otherwise doing reasonably well on governance, a sea change from the previous regimes. Top-level corruption has vanished in Haryana and there is a significant improvement in social indicators, a highlight of which has the been a big increase in the sex ratio in favour of girls. In post-Narendra Modi Gujarat, the government allowed local troublemakers to grow to menacing proportions. Not checking a violent and abusive small-time street bully like Jignesh Mevani right at the onset, made him assume menacing proportions, so such so that the Gujarat government had to deploy their Brahmastra, PM Narendra Modi, to save the state in the assembly polls.

Similarly, the Madhya Pradesh government reacted very lethargically to a Congress-fuelled “farmer’s agitation” and had to work really hard later to quell the subsequent conflagration. In Maharashtra a motley group of local anti-Hindu activists started small disturbances at temples that went unchecked by the Fadnavis govt. Soon left extremists of various hues joined in and tried to start a nation-wide temple-storming scenario.

The incomprehensible urge to try and appease its non-voters even at the cost of its own core supporters and ideology had for long been a quintessential trait of the BJP till Narendra Modi changed the game. In 2003 the then BJP-led NDA government actually increased the amount of taxpayers’ money paid as subsidy to Muslim individuals going on the annual Haj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, which was diametrically opposite to the BJP’s core doctrine of non-appeasement. The party’s hopes of getting traction among Muslim voters were, as expected by everyone except the then BJP central leadership, completely belied.

In a more serious misjudgment with tremendous ramifications in 2005, the central leadership of a then out-of-power BJP meekly acquiesced to passing the Congress-led UPA’s 104th Constitutional Amendment Bill leading to the 93rd Constitutional Amendment, allowing reservation for backward classes and SC/STs in private unaided educational institutions, while leaving out minority institutions from its purview. The BJP could have simply put its foot down and refused to pass the bill unless the exemption for minority institutions was removed, but it chose to cave in. The pernicious consequences of this action became clear when the UPA passed the Right to Education Act in 2010 and the entire burden of the RTE fell only on the Hindu-run schools, bringing many to the brink.

It took a Narendra Modi to turn the game on its head in the run up to the 2014 polls. His mantra of “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikaas” promised inclusive development without that abject appeasement of minority groups, which had been the bane of Indian polity since independence. In spite of the reservations of the old school BJP leaders, the new BJP would no more even attempt to portray itself as more “secular” than the so-called “secular” parties that had thrived primarily through appeasement of their minority vote-banks. It promised a corruption-free governance, equality of opportunity to ever citizen, massive infrastructure development, a growth-oriented economic model, better education and healthcare, and very importantly safety of life and property. Modi had already perfected this model in Gujarat under the motto of “development of all, appeasement of none”. This model of governance of the new BJP of Narendra Modi is what the electorate overwhelmingly voted for.

Many leaders of the BJP have been quick to assimilate this new school idea with fantastic results. Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath, who was ridiculed and pilloried by the elitist mainstream media on assuming office, has followed the new school BJP doctrine to the letter and has already brought about an incredible transformation in the state in just a year’s time. In one stroke he has cast aside all the shibboleths of caste and religious identities that parochial family-run parties, mainstream media and influential self-styled experts had created and nurtured over the years, and he’s simply concentrating on bringing good governance to all, a key component of which is the elimination of the myriad criminal gangs that have unleashed a reign of terror in the state over the years due to the previous regimes’ patronage to certain groups and communities.

In Assam, the duo of CM Sarbananda Sonawal and key minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is transforming the state not only in terms of economic and infrastructure development, but also by acting decisively against deeply entrenched extremists and foreign infiltrators to provide peace and security in a once troubled state.

The BJP Chief Ministers still following the BJP’s old-school playbook need a complete overhaul of their understanding of the electorate. They must comprehend that maintenance of law and order is a sine qua non of good governance. The BJP’s voters have zero tolerance for any group or community destroying public and private property and rioting on the streets, no matter what the issue is. These BJP CMs are running by and large corruption-free governments and are doing far better than any other party in terms of development. They simply need to have more confidence in their own ability to successfully showcase their work to the public, without having to appease any group or community out of fear of losing votes.

Perhaps the crushing defeat of the BJP in the recent by-polls under Vasundhara Raje’s watch in spite of shamelessly kowtowing to the Karni Sena will be a wakeup call to them and they’ll start adopting the new school model. In any case the learning curve shouldn’t be steep, for they can simply pick up a ready-made successful template of one of the new school BJP leaders. But they’d better do it fast, lest the only recourse left to them is to call in PM Modi at the last moment at election time to somehow bail them out.

‘Who am I?’: Writes a common man about India in Modi era

0

In this season of branding oneself and others ‘national’ ‘anti national ‘secular’ ‘Bhakt’ ‘liberal’ ‘pseudo intellectual’; I have a serious identity crisis.

I was appalled at what happened in 2002 in Gujarat but am also against the media trial and persecution of Modi for 13 years.

Dadri was horrifying but I don’t think my country is intolerant.

I empathize with Rohit Vemula but I question the logic of reservation.

I support freedom of speech but can’t tolerate ‘Hindustan ki Barbadi’ slogans.

I don’t eat beef but have no problem if u eat in front of me.

I am against the goons of Bajrang Dal but I denounce the saffron terror narrative.

I am against moral policing of Hindu Sena but I oppose proselytization by some Christian missionaries.

I hate Azam Khan and Owaisi but I equally despise Sakshi Maharaj and Pravin Togadia.

I believe in secular India but also believe Hinduism is the most tolerant faith.

I support decriminalization of gay sex but find glorification of gay sex as stupid.

I criticise Modi on FTII or shabby handling of JNU but I support him on digital India and Make In India.

I support Odd Even formula but criticize free water, free electricity.

I like the intellectual sophistication of NDTV but also enjoy the noise at Times Now and plain simple earthiness of Zee news.

I am against Hindu extremist lumpens but am equally against CPI goons and AAPtards.

I question the slow pace of reforms and parivartan promised by Modi but I don’t have visceral hatred for Modi and believe he is working hard for India.

I like Manohar Parrikar, Sushma Swaraj, Nitin Gadkari, Suresh Prabhu but I also like Sachin Pilot, Manish Sisodia, Jay Panda and Omar Abdulla.

I don’t question the loyalty of Shahrukh Khan or Aamir Khan but am against eulogizing Afzal Guru or Ishrat Jahan.

I don’t like the idea of national anthem playing in movie theatres but I support hoisting national flag in universities.

I support foreign visits of Modi but I criticise his silence on controversial domestic issues.

I am all for rational thinking and modernity but believe ancient Indian history is great and not all of it is mythology.

I pray but I party too.

I wear Tilak but enjoy tequila too.

I read 50 Shades Of Grey but everyday read Gita too.

I love AR Rahman’s Vande Matram but downloaded AIB roast too.

I love watching Ganga Aarti but am a fan of Sunny Leone too.

So who am I? A Bhakt, a liberal, a secular, a national, an anti- national, an infra Hindu, an ultra Hindu or all of this? A complicated Indian who is a bundle of contradictions and I guess I enjoy being Trishanku.

Aiyaary movie review

0

One big factor that pulls audience to theaters is the stardom a movie’s cast has to offer. While in other parts of the globe, it is just one of the many factors, the signature styles and brand value of actors in India remain the one and only root cause of the thriving business of almost all major commercially successful Indian movies.

And then there are directors like Neeraj pandey, Raju Hirani and Sanjay Leela Bhansali who have the audacity to attract audience with their own brand name as directors. Neeraj Pandey is known for his no-nonsense movies. If we talk of modern day original thrillers, Neeraj pandey is one big name we have to consider. Be it A Wednesday, Special 26 or Baby, Neeraj’s loyal audiences have never been disappointed. This time he has come up with a very firm stand on corruption.

Aiyaary delivers a subtle message which hits hard on corruption. He has openly abused Lutyens’ Delhi and exposed the politician-journalist nexus. In this 160 minute long espionage thriller, he has shown how people for their individual gains can even go against the law, country and can mock the contributions, sacrifices and very existence of a common man.

Aiyaary focuses on two army officers and tussle between their ideologies. The young one is fed up of the system and decides to sell the secret information to some businessman (which might destroy Indian Army’s image) and spend rest of his life lavishly. Both the army officials are experts in disguises. Both are brave and true to their duty. Manoj is exceptionally well. Vikram Gokhale, Kumud Mishra, Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher, Adil Hussain all have played their role sincerely.

The only low point is Rakul Preet’s role and it could be shortened by 5 minutes. Siddharth’s character could’ve been sketched a little better as people can’t actually figure out why the hell all this drama had happened. Cinematography and BGM are worth praising. Neeraj pandey (producer) has put in more money which unfortunately may not be recovered fully because of the inevitable clash with Black Panther and reasonably tough competition with Padman.

One possible reason of this not having convincing word of mouth might be how Neeraj has not chosen to connect all the dots and left it open to interpretation which might not tickle the movies-buffs habitual to spoon feeding by lower grade predictable commercial cinema like Tiger Zinda Hai.

I won’t say this is an example of bad or casual filmmaking. Hopefully Neeraj gets the feedback and will come up with more preparation next time but one shouldn’t miss this too. One should watch this to witness the bravery and commitment of our Army soldiers towards their country.

One should watch this to understand that giving up is not an option when it comes to protect the country.

My rating is 3*.

The fall of Arvind Kejriwal

0

Recalling the protest of 2011, Anna Hazare moment was reaching out to society miffed with corruption charges hitting headlines constantly and emboldened everyone to participate unanimously. And this juncture presented an expectation to nation in name Arvind Kejriwal, who was viewed as Shivaji Rao (Anil Kapoor) of Nayak (Hindi Movie released in 2011).

People support grew swiftly, which could be exemplified from the Delhi Assemble Election result of 2013 and 2015. But the prospect who was tasked to spread wind of change in Indian politics, seems to be splitting off-track in his three (3) years tenure. Occurrence of series of events is compelling same support base to believe that they misread.

Playing appeasement card, charge begun striking Arvind Kejriwal in 2013 when he joined order of leader’s in “Batla House Encounter” inquisition. Later, pursuing “Isrant Jahan Encounter” in 2016 and recently proclaiming to be”Messiah of Muslim”. We didn’t anticipated Arvind Kejriwal satiating in vote bank politics because we believed in him as staunch crusader to challenge and turnaround the system.

In pursuance to target Narendra Modi, he ended up in questioning Indian army honor and allegiance over “Surgical Strike”. Once a companion, Kumar Vishwas disclosed on TV show (Aap Ki Adaalat) that he resisted such amiss move. But political risk impending from Narendra Modi seems to have enforced him in taking such ignominious decision.

March 2012, Lalu Prasad Yadav: “He (Kejriwal) has become senile, he has become a mental case and is frustrated,” Prasad told reporters when asked about Kejriwal’s comments against politicians. But time turns foe into ally, August 2017 Laluji anti-Modi rally and Arvind Kejriwal hugged 900 crore fodder scam convict because it’s crucial to be relevant politically. And needed to reflect in Lalu Prasad Yadav good books post snubbed by Congress in presidential election.

Key promises remained awaiting to see the sunshine, promises from Health ( 1000 Mohalla Clinics), Education (500 schools and 20 degree colleges) to Women Safety (Installation of 15laks CCTV) tall claims seem to be overshadowed by dwarf aspiration to deliver.

Finally, last case which made me welcome him to the “League of Typical Politician” was nominating Ex-Congressman which cannot be swallowed. Its turning to be disheartening case of a leader once contemplated as possibility of change in eyes of millions is fading away as abominable lesson for us.I don’t expect history to be kind to him.

Stoking Hindu anger in Tamil Nadu – what do insults and protests signify?

0

In recent past, Tamil Nadu had witnessed a resurgence of venomous attacks on Hindu beliefs and religious symbol heads. Much has been written on the crass insults that Vairamuthu had heaped on Andal Nachiyar, the goddess revered by Hindus all over the world. As if this were was not enough, Kanimozhi the self-acclaimed atheist Rajya Sabha member and daughter of M.Karunanidhi of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), had also made uncharitable remarks on Lord Venkateswara of Tirupathi.

The insults came during Dhanurmasa, the period of the year that Hindus consider most auspicious for reciting Andal’s Thiruppavai – a collection of thirty stanzas (paasurams) written in Tamil by Andal in praise of the Lord Vishnu. The timing of these insults were carefully designed to create maximum hurt to the Hindus. It certainly did.

It is not that the insults of Vairamuthu or Kanimozhi by themselves have stirred up the strong Hindu rising. It has certainly proved to be the hot trigger for a huge swathe of the population that has been reeling under constant anti-Hindu harangue and endless taunts.

Unlike the past, this time around, these anti-Hindu claptraps had the shock of their lives. Hindus from all over south India – Tamil Nadu, Andhra, Telangana and Karnataka expressed their anger and took to the streets to protest the insults. The spontaneity and widespread protests, particularly by women and younger generation pleasantly surprised even the protesters themselves.

In the initial days, the protests were largely ignored by the mainstream media, particularly the television networks in Tamil Nadu. However, the extensive use of social media – particularly Facebook and WhatsApp – had proved to be a game changer. It was the active and angry presence in the social media that forced the television networks to devote time. This only fueled the spread of anger to every household and only spawned even more protests.

Housewives took to posting angry self-made videos expressing their disgust at Vairamuthu and seeking his unconditional apology. Many exponents of religious discourses were also at the forefront addressing gatherings of angry Hindus. In fact youngsters – sub 30s something and women in particular – dominated the protest marches. In major urban and metropolitan areas, many retirees and elderly people also joined the protests.

At a time when the entire political class has shunned speaking out in public on the Vairamuthu fiasco, H Raja of the BJP and TTV Dinakaran of the breakaway AIADMK have been the two lonely voices that have unequivocally condemned it. Mr. H Raja has not only castigated the Dravidian parties but has also been at the forefront of the protests. Despite the negative portrayal by the mainstream media, he seems to have gathered huge grassroots support across the state, particularly among the young people in Tamil Nadu.

Contrary to what the television networks have portrayed, the protests were well spread out and saw the participation of all communities across the Hindu faith. However, it is true that the crowds that were seen on the streets were not as large as would be seen in a popular political rally. But the diverse, spontaneous gatherings have sent an ominous message writ too large to ignore.

It must however be mentioned here that it would be perfectly legitimate to have differences and disagreements with Hinduism per se, its philosophies, its sacred texts or its belief systems. Hinduism itself has a well-established tradition of debating such differences. Hence the proper and acceptable forum to address such disquiet would be to invite both sides to debate publicly so the people can draw their own conclusions.

Insulting Hindu religious figure heads, on the contrary, has no room in a civil society and is a clear infringement of constitutional guarantees for religious freedom. It is a naked attempt to incite hatred that has the potential to spiral into religious violence and hence is a threat to law and order. It is time to read the riot act to Vairamuthu. But unfortunately an effete government in the state has not shown the courage to act. Inaction will certainly not be forgiven by the people in the elections.

The Dravidian cults in all their hues and avatars are no more than a band of Hindu-baiting political opportunists who have unscrupulously played the pseudo-secular card for several decades now. As many researchers and authors have already pointed out in their well-documented studies, these cults are but executing their alien masters’ bidding. It is obvious that these forces are tightly aligned with those who do not wish India well.

Despite their protestations and false propaganda to social reforms, the number of Hindus worshiping at the temples continues to swell and unbelievable numbers visit the temples every day. This stands as a grand testimony to the unshakable faith of the Hindus of Tamil Nadu. But to poke this huge mass of humanity is tantamount to committing political harakiri.

The obvious result, over the years, has been the creation of a large cesspool of latent anger and hurt among large sections of Hindus that has refused to drain or dry away. The insults heaped on goddess Andal Nachiyar and the sham regrets by Vairamuthu and others of his ilk has definitely ignited this latent anger. The rancor and vitriol have only succeeded in passing the unmitigated hatred for these bogus cults from one generation to another.

This is an unmistakably a red flag for the Hindu-hating Dravidian political tribes and could well be a harbinger of upcoming jet steam of political changes just round the corner in Tamil Nadu. It has the potential to blow the Dravidian cults to irrelevance and decimate them from the political scene once and for all.

Open Letter to PM Narendra Modi from a steadfast supporter

0

Dear Pradhanmantri ji,

I have been a steadfast supporter of your government and the Bharatiya Janata Party since you were elected with a thumping majority four years ago. Sick of the insidious policy paralysis and corruption that plagued our country, I saw (and still) a beacon of hope in your administration. Since then, I have vociferously defended you when I perceived your actions to be in the greater national interest. Today, however, I write out of disappointment over the ineptitude of our government and its investigative agencies to hold flagrantly corrupt individuals accountable for their crimes.

The recent Punjab National Bank scandal has shocked the conscience of our country, that has experienced corruption on numerous instances and forms over the course of the last decade. And yet, this time felt especially egregious, given the fact that the accused may never see the insides of an Indian courtroom. This, after defrauding one of our largest public sector banks in what appears to a premeditated heist of unprecedented magnitude. It also follows a series of other high profile fugitive absconders the likes of whom continue to enjoy their ill gotten gains without facing any repercussions whatsoever. Meanwhile, our government and country reals from the effects of NPAs piling up and wrecking havoc across major PSBs.

I was thoroughly disappointed to see members of your party attempting to deflect blame for this crisis to your predecessors. We have all acknowledged that the UPA was an insidious swamp of mismanagement and corruption. We have also voted them out of power nearly four years ago and tasked you with the fate of our country. Deflecting blame while politically expedient, does nothing to bring these cowards to justice. Nor does it bring back the billions of misappropriated public funds that will most likely have to be written off. It doesn’t excuse the brazenness shown in the aftermath of this crime by its perpetrators. What message do we want to send our own citizens and the world? Come, hoodwink our banks, launder our money and face no repercussions after laundering thousands of crores just as long as you fly out of the country before we can get to you? Surely not.

Sir, I write to you today, because I believe that your intentions align with those of the honest citizens that have been wronged by these crimes. In a country where 270 million citizens live under the poverty line, it is morally repugnant to see such criminal misallocation of funds going unpunished. In this monumental fight against corruption, I humbly ask you to fight for us as you were voted to do 4 years ago. Lead the charge sir, the country will follow you as it has before.

Yours Sincerely,

A concerned citizen.

Professors held hostages, violent protests; Should we be worried about JNU?

0

JNU administration recently introduced a new attendance system, which is not really new for students except for some universities like JNU. The administration has decided to make 75% attendance mandatory and students which won’t have attendance recorded 75% or more would be expelled or a strict procedure would be followed. This happens to be a very normal procedure in every university, college or school.

Govt. ITIs, Educational Institutes, Colleges, Polytechnic Institutes, this procedure in normal everywhere. But due to some Godly reason, this mandatory attendance system wasn’t introduced in JNU till now.

Now, late but finally when the administration have taken this matter seriously because students were attending more protests than lectures, and those who wanted to study weren’t allowed to study because some students wanted the classes not to run in the name of their protest were ruining futures of those who joined the university to really do something about their life and not be there for 17 years and chant “Bharat tere tukde honge”. The Tukde Tukde gang is creating the ruckus in the university protesting against the mandatory rule of “attending classes” which must have been the first reason to join the university.

Jawahar Lal Nehru University is being held hostage by some goons, who think it’s their right not to attend classes and waste the Taxpayers money for 17 years straight. Student’s who are willing to study and being allowed to study. Professors, Lecturers are being harassed in the university campus. But no liberal outrage is to be seen. Those who were defending the “Tukde Tukde Gang” saying they are just students, their freedom of expression must be respected, all those humane souls, activists, journalists have been hiding somewhere.

No Prime Time debate is being conducted on this harassment of Professors by the students, everyone is looking away.

One may think, what is their motive? here is my opinion:

They just don’t want to attend classes because after being there so long they have learned that they don’t have any sort of special talent and their only scope is to live on Taxpayers money and waste their lives like this. They don’t want to pass or leave the university either. (Kidding)

These devotees of communism are trying to create an image that government is silencing their freedom of expression by making them attend classes their motive is not just creating ruckus in JNU, they want this fire to spread all over the country and create a nationwide student revolution, which is not going to happen because not every student is a student devotee of communism and in most universities they would have been expelled for such things, if not jailed. This whole protest is politically motivated to change the perception of the present government which is more popular with youngsters than any other government India ever had. Their only target is to turn youth against the government.

Should the government intervene?

I don’t think so if Govt. intervenes in this case, those activists, journalists, liberals would come out of their caves like hungry wolfs and put more fuel to this fire, making this a national issue. which could end up misleading the whole youth.Let the university administration and police take care of the matter.

Should the University administration take back its decision?

No, that would be giving up to the fools and goons who are trying to rule the University at the expense of taxpayers money. Plus it would also send a signal that students can pressurize the university in any manner, no matter if its bad or good. Good administration sticks to its decision, no matter how hard it is to apply the decision.

Should we be worried about JNU being hostage to such situations?

I am not a JNU student, I never went there but one thing I am sure about is that it’s not happening for the first time. It’s only that this time it’s being politicized against the BJP Govt. it’s being given so much importance. JNU have survived before it would survive now. We must stop making heroes or villains out of JNU students, just let them be, don’t give them the importance and unnecessary footage everywhere. We already made a fool into a celebrity.

We must learn from our mistakes.

The turnaround in Indian economy: Numerous reformative policies introduced

0

There has been a turnaround in Indian economy as is obvious from the following recent economic indicators as mentioned in TOI dated 18/01/2018:

1)Bank credit growth 2 year high.

2)Direct tax collection up about 19%.

3) Digital payments grew 18%

4) Govt aims to mop up Rs 90k crore via sell-off.

5) India’s factory activity highest in 5 years as per the Nikkei Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index, compiled by IHS Markit.

6) A study authored by SBI Group Chief Economic Advisor Soumya Kanti Ghosh and IIM Bangalore professor Pulak Ghosh found that seven million jobs will be created in the formal sector in 2017-18. The recent economic survey states that nearly 53% of the non-agricultural workforce is in the formal sector.

7) Start-up: India has retained its position as the third largest start-up base in the world with over 4,750 technology start-ups, with about 1,400 new start-ups being founded in 2016, according to a report by NASSCOM.

8) Foreign Exchange: Exports growth (30%) rose to its highest since October 2011, helping the trade deficit to narrow to $13.8 billion. India’s foreign exchange reserves stood at US$ 404 billion as of December 22, 2017. Remittances to India are expected to grow 4.2 per cent to US$ 65 billion in 2017, making it the largest remittance recipient in the world again.

9) Ease of doing business: Bengal now solo first: This proves that competition among states as promoted by Niti Ayog is proving effective. Efficiency in governance, administration alone will ensure India’s development.

10) India’s inflation is likely to average 4% in 2017-18, sharply lower than the estimate made at the beginning of the financial year of 5.2%, says ADB report. (Livemint dated 14/02/2018)

Days ahead as forecast:

• The Niti Aayog has predicted that rapid adoption of green mobility solutions like public transport, electric vehicles and car-pooling could likely help India save around Rs 3.9 trillion (US$ 60 billion) by 2030.

• Indian impact investments may grow 25 per cent annually to US$ 40 billion from US$ 4 billion by 2025, as per Mr Anil Sinha, Global Impact Investing Network’s (GIIN’s) advisor for South Asia.

• India is to be the 5th largest economy in 2018 and 3rd largest, by 2027, says Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR), London.

• World Bank says Indian economy to grow by 7.3% in 2018-19. IMF says 7.4%.

• The economic survey forecasts 6.75% growth in current year and 7 to 7.5%, in year 2018-19.

Now the 2018-19 budget provides for achieving in the rural, social, and healthcare sectors the following comprehensive targets:

– Rs. 3 lakh crores for lending under PM MUDRA Yojana.

– Rs. 600 crores for nutritional support to all TB patients.

– National health protection scheme to benefit 10 crore families. Health cover of up to 5 lakhs per family per year for poor & vulnerable.

– Rs. 1200 crore for health and wellness centres

– Allocation for national livelihood mission: Rs. 5750 crores.

– Dedicated affordable housing fund.

– 8 crore rural women to get free gas connection through Ujjwala yojana.

– Rs. 10,000 cr for fishery development fund and animal husbandry fund.

– Rs. 1290 crore allocation for bamboo sector.

– Kisan credit card to be extended to fisheries, animal husbandry farmers.

Apart from raising the minimum support price for all crops, the government proposed raising credit for the agricultural sector to 11 trillion rupees ($172.3 billion). It plans to set up a Rs. 20 billion fund to develop, and upgrade, agricultural market infrastructure. Another Rs. 5 billion would be allocated to promote farmer producer organizations, agriculture logistics, processing facilities and professional management. It also planned to loosen restrictions on the export of agricultural commodities to realize a market potential as high as $100 billion. These apart, there are many provisions beneficial to pensioners, women, senior citizens and MSMEs. Railways, urban development, make in India, infrastructure with emphasis on North East, real estate and defence production have received substantial boost. The principal thrust is on all-round job creation.

All these lead to an ongoing and upcoming buoyancy in the Indian economy, not seen since demonetization. There is an enterprise and efficiency coupling, not seen before but now perceived in India and abroad.

In a recent survey conducted by Pew Research Centre, 80% of respondents were found satisfied with democracy in India. It also showed that 90% hold a favourable opinion of PM, Narendra Modi. The Edelman Trust Barometer showed that govt. of India recorded a 10% increase in trust levels. Gallup International survey ranked Modi among the top 3 leaders in the world

We must also note that Since Modi took office, over 5.92 crore toilets have been constructed, while 3 lakh villages and 300 districts have been made open-defecation free. India’s sanitation coverage under the Swachh Bharat Mission in the last three years has gone up from 38 per cent to an impressive 76 per cent. Such success would not have been possible without people’s participation. Similarly underscoring the importance of people’s participation to make the Government’s efforts successful, at least 20 lakh people have surrendered their gas subsidy. In the railways too, 9.39 lakh senior citizens have voluntarily given up their subsidy under the Government’s ‘Give up’ scheme.

Well received Initiatives like taking yoga to the masses, banning the use of red beacons to end VIP culture, special schemes for Divyangs and sensitising people to their needs, ending the formality of getting forms/certificates attested by gazetted officers, exhorting people to prepare their own manure through composting, may look like small but their impact is massive on the whole society.

So, it is not only the economy but also the society that is getting enthused and invigorated.
