How much Modi/Center is to be blamed for the current state of health machinery in India?

0

Well if you have opened Twitter or Facebook in recent days you might have seen the smear campaigns against Modi Government.

It just hit me back how politicians can stoop to such levels just to criticize the central government and primarily Modi for this whole distress. For the past few days the opposition, left-wing intellectuals, and propagandists have risen and are spreading disinformation.

I as an individual, do believe central government is responsible in some ways but what would be the liability of the center and to what extent. I would like to discuss the same in 2 bits, in this section we shall discuss the existing machinery, and in the upcoming bit about vaccine diplomacy, oxygen shortage, and election rallies.

To start with we have 5 major instruments in the Public Health Care systems across India, namely:

1) Sub centers

2) PHCs (Primary Health Centers)

3) CHCs (Community Health Centers)

4) DHs (District Hospitals)

5) Medical Colleges and Research Institutions

Out of these 5 instruments, only 2 partially come under Central Government Subcenters and Medical Colleges and Research institutions.

Sub Centers(SCs) are funded by The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare which comes under the Central Government, these are responsible to work in extremely rural areas for populations up to 5000 in plains and up to 3000 in Hilly Areas.

These subcenters are very basic in their capacities for eg. the Manpower of 1/2 Female health workers, 1 Male health worker (To be appointed by the State Government), and 1 volunteer worker to keep the SCs clean.

We can hardly expect much from these Sub Centers as per their capacity also they are located in extremely rural areas, where we have not witnessed much spread until now.

The other instrument which partially comes under the central government is the medical colleges, out of which AIIMS are the most prominent ones, center also works on Cancer institutes in collaboration with State governments other than that there is hardly any role of the center in the aspect of Medical Colleges and Research institutions, they are controlled by the state governments.

Talking about AIIIMS, there are 22 in total out of which only 8 were proposed and established by any government before 2014.

It’s ironic that this ” MANDIR WALI SARKAR” only announced and started working on the 6 out of 8 in 2003 under Vajpayee Government which were eventually completed under UPA since NDA lost the power, while the grand old party which is considered the epitome of governance among liberal and intellectual groups only announced and established AIIMS New Delhi and AIIMS Raebareli since independence.

Out of the planned 14 AIIMS under the Modi Government, 11 are established and functional.

Still, it is not enough, we have a lot more distance to cover but to blame Modi/ Central Government for the failure of state machinery is not the solution.

In this part above, I have shared the details on the existing machinery, will also discuss more on the oxygen shortage, vaccine diplomacy, and election rallies, and how much center is to be blamed for these.

USCIRF report by “the concerned but prejudiced commissioners (the-CPC)” labeling India “a country of concern (a-CPC)”

0

The 2021 report by USCIRF (United States Commission on International Religious Freedom) is repackaged to identify India and 12 other countries once again as a Country of Particular Concern (a-CPC) as in 2020. Interestingly, the 2021 report acknowledges that the past year had been “challenging for most nations trying to balance public health concerns alongside the fundamental right to freedom of religion or belief.” Yet the Commissioners had the propensity to produce a new report at the considerable expense of taxpayers’ money which was totally unnecessary. I question why those resources could not be put to better use for helping the COVID-19 affected and distressed people in CPCs rather than reaffirming the label they already had in 2020. I believe that “forgiveness,” even during the devastating pandemic, is not in the character and DNA of most USCIRF Commissioners who I characterize as the “Concerned but Prejudiced Commissioners (the-CPC).”

The readers should note that ‘a-CPC’ is for the country designation and ‘the-CPC’ for the Commissioners in the following.

From my perspective, India’s a-CPC designation in 2020 was based on misconstrued narrative derived from the limited information, data, and facts. I rejected it then and reject it again even more vehemently. Why? First, how could one expect much change in any country including India when the government and citizens were engaged in and concerned with saving lives and livelihood and maintaining health and safety during the pandemic? Secondly, how could USCIRF staff obtain information about violations of religious freedom abroad without visiting places and observing facts on the ground? Under the dire pandemic environment, the possible alternative for USCIRF and the-CPC is to rely on the credibility of media/news, or lack thereof. It is ironic that the-CPC (7 of 9 Commissioners in 2021 are from 2020) had a mindset to produce a replica of 2020, perhaps, to justify their existence, exhibit authority, and unduly interfere in the affairs of other countries.

How hypocritical of USCIRF that while acknowledging the pandemic, the prejudiced commissioners won’t even mention the development of vaccines in India. Didn’t they know India’s generosity of vaccine distribution (~ 66 million) to 80 countries to save millions of human lives of two other major religions- Islam and Christianity? India distributed vaccines, other medicines (even to the U.S. in 2020), and PPEs because of her steadfast belief in Vasudhaiv Kutumbkam (The world is one family) and rising above religion and faith to help save humanity.

The Report maliciously states, “at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, disinformation and hateful rhetoric—including from government officials—often targeted religious minorities, continuing familiar patterns. Disinformation and intolerant content have emboldened intimidation, harassment, and mob violence in recent years, including numerous instances of violence mainly against Dalits, Muslims, Christians, Adivasis, and other religious communities”.

What a blatant distortion of facts while India’s strictest and longest lockdown at the onset of COVID-19 by the government was appreciated globally? The lockdown meant lockdown for EVERYONE irrespective of one’s religion, economic status, and caste. Undoubtedly, it caused unprecedented inconveniences to all and perhaps more to the poor families. The BJP led government, however, assured free distribution of food grains to those families for about 6 months and extraordinary efforts were made to transport and accommodate the returned migrant workers.

Ironically, the religious Muslim leaders were engaged in grossly misguiding their congregations in the mosques not to follow lockdown and not use masks and observe social distancing. As many as 2500 Tablighi were found staying as a congregation in tight quarters against government orders. Many of them traveled across India and hid in the mosques. Hundreds were arrested for violation of visa rules. Talking of intimidation and harassment, the religious heads and Tablighi harassed the officers on duty indiscriminately. India had a serious spread of the virus due to an intentional act by Tablighi in hiding. Clearly, the-CPC only read selective media reports and use what suits their own bias for maligning India’s image. While we can’t deny incidences in India based on religious conflicts between Hindus and Muslims, it is by no means what the USCIRF report purportedly claims. It is the-CPC’s mindset to alienate many peaceful, tolerant, and God-fearing Indians based on their religion by quoting selected incidences.

How sinister is the agenda of the-CPC in stating that religious freedom conditions in India “continued their negative trajectory?” The report squarely puts blame on the government, “led by the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), promoting Hindu nationalist policies.” The Report further states about, “systematic, ongoing, and egregious violations of religious freedom.” One must wonder if the pandemic in 2020 was capable of affecting people of one religion different than the other.

The Report particularly notes the passage of the “religiously discriminatory” Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and that there was seeming police complicity in the Delhi riots.” Let it be noted that the riots were allegedly organized and orchestrated under the leadership of a Muslim politician belonging to the Aam Adami Party and those killed included many innocent Hindus and Muslims alike. The CAA is by no means a discriminatory law but fast-tracking the citizenship of religious minorities (e.g. Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Christians). Pakistan specific section in the Report states that these minorities were targets of killings, blasphemy, forced conversion, and hate speech in neighboring Pakistan.

I dare remind the-CPCs of the exemplary history of India welcoming people of every faith for thousands of years let alone discriminating against anyone. The fact also remains that not a single Muslim has lost her/his citizenship in India or has been asked to leave unless they were staying unauthorized in India. Do the Commissioners not know that the U.S. passed a similar provision in the form of the Lautenberg Amendment which enabled citizenship to identified persecuted religious minorities in the erstwhile former Soviet Union? This was further amended to include Christians fleeing Iran. In fact, the U.S. law is far more restrictive to persecuted Christians while India’s CAA includes multiple religions (persecuted Buddhists, Christians, Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and Parsis who arrived in India on or before December 31, 2014. It also reduces the residency requirement for naturalization from 14 to 11 years). The United States also tracks the so-called “illegal” immigrants, a common global practice.

Interestingly, another incidence selected by the-CPC is the Shaheen Bagh demonstration, an unwarranted and unlawful roadblock of a very busy highway leading to Delhi. This inconvenienced hundreds of thousands of commuters and students for months. The patient BJP led government let it continue and complied with court decisions as needed rather than removing any demonstrator forcibly. It was nothing more than a political rally fueled and funded by the politicians belonging to opposition parties who were unable to defeat BJP in the polls. I was in India and witnessed both the Delhi riots and Shaheen Bagh and I assert that both were organized to disrupt the law and order and create a deeper wedge between Hindus and Muslims. Were the ears of the CPC plugged when a group of people in Shaheen Bagh were calling for dividing India into pieces (India tere tookday tookday)?

In conclusion, the USCIRF has no justifiable authority to interfere and pass judgments on other sovereign nations. I question the motives, knowledge, and understanding of the-CPC about different countries they write about. It is about time that the U.S. government put a greater focus on domestic issues such as racial discrimination, police brutality against a minority population, senseless killing of innocent Asians, Black, and Sikhs in the recent past either by police or the disgruntled individual with a gun and the insurrection on Capitol Hill in January. Is USCIRF aware of anti-Hindu activities in their own homeland, particularly at state institutions like Rutgers? The ongoing discrimination against Asians (including Indians) in college admissions in the U.S. is based on race and religion which nobody wants to admit. Why the-CPC is concerned about faraway lands?

Knowing the-CPC mindset, it is not hard to forecast for the 2022 USCIRF report on India. Most likely a-CPC again with a twisted narrative on the farmers’ agitation and blaming it on BJP led Hindu nationalist government including the insurrection on Red Fort. They will discuss evidence about the few lapses in managing the raging second wave of pandemic and not the endless efforts and mobilizing national resources including the military to save lives. While the post-370 Kashmir is beginning to realize the real development and democracy for all, USCIRF will dig reports to hold BJP responsible for discriminating against Muslims. The Dasna temple priest, a fearless devout Hindu, openly challenging the motives of jihadis may become a lead story too. What they will not talk about is the Khalistan leaders and George Soros funding various anti-India activities in India and abroad.

Finally, a bit of unsolicited advice for the Government of India- set up independent think tanks to prepare well-researched narratives about India’s uncontested democracy, development, and freedom. It yields little to go on the defensive after the Reports by USCIRF, Freedom House, Amnesty International, etc. It is more effective to highlight India’s strengths such as the culture of tolerance and togetherness, young population ready to challenge the world, and the unity in diversity. India’s burgeoning population is an asset because of 1,3 billion brains but India must seriously consider steps to halt further growth. At the risk of being discriminatory against Muslims, the truth be told that Muslim families are bearing many more children than an average Hindu family. As a result, the number of Muslims has grown disproportionally, and Hindu numbers have declined year after year.

The ‘village’ in digital economy

0

The Indian village society especially in post-Green Revolution period has shown a massive rural out-migration due to the continuous pauperization and depeasantization among the small and marginal farmers. Urban and industrial sectors are the destination point of these rural pauperized and depeasantized farming households for their alternative economic livelihood. The demographic character also changed in rural India where the major portion of productive age group people are continuously absent in rural areas which made less burden for the government in terms of creating more employment opportunities in the villages. The lockdown to save the human lives from Corona virus has made a tremendous psychological impact on the rural migrants in urban areas where there is so much anxiety among these migrants to return their home at any cost due to the ‘ontological insecurity’ that the migrants feels in terms of food insecurity, cashless, and unavailability of work in urban areas.

This ‘felt risk’ among the migrants during the lockdown period forcing them to live in a psychological condition of ‘perceived risk’ which will have a major negative impact on the rural out-migration in the future. This will create two major challenges for the state and industrial economy. Firstly, the industries will suffer from the labor crisis and the small scale industries will be the worst sufferer. Secondly, the reverse migration with a severe psychological fear, anxiety and the experience of painful journey during the lockdown period will make a sharp decline of rural out-migration. This will reshape the rural demographic profile where the presence of a large number of productive age groups will become a serious challenge for the state to create more employment and alternative livelihood opportunities in the rural areas.

Further, the Social World in post-COVID-19 period is going to enter into a society to which Alan Kilby called ‘digimodernism’ where the digital culture will be a dominating force in the sphere of all kinds of economic activities.  In this context, the ‘rurality’ in the post-COVID-19 era is also going to take a new shape under the culture of digital economy through e-commerce and e-trading. The recent agricultural reforms made by the states like M.P., U.P., and Gujarat towards the private market based e-trading system in the rural agricultural sector is clearly indicating the expansion of digital economy into the village life. In this sense, the expansion of e-capitalism will create a new demand for the digital skill and technological know-how in both farming and non-farming sectors in rural society. In a vast unequal agrarian social system like India, the need for skilled digital knowledge will create further inequality and depeasantisation among the low resources farmers, for that, the state should intervene with a proper policy measure to empower the small and marginal farmers to adapt with global digital knowledge system. The promise made by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a ‘self-reliance India’ can become success by the proper skills and training of rural population with global digital economic culture.

Thus, now the state should give more focus on the special package for the development of digital infrastructure, rural entrepreneurship and skill-based empowerment of productive age group population through which the rurality can be converted into a successful active local actor in the global economy. The Panchayati Raj Institutions can be made as an active micro level government agency in mediating between global and local market. The nature of the employment creation through MNREGA has to be linked with the rural infrastructure development to grape the global market opportunities. In this background, the ‘village’ should now be a centre of the state development policy discourse where the ideology of ‘rural development’ has to shift towards the more empowerment oriented policies and programmes.

What India taught the world during Covid-19?

‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’- (World is a family) has been India’s core thought since the inception of Vedas but it’s existence was enhanced globally when Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi utilized the teachings of the Vedas to create a new world view during the Covid-19 pandemic.

When the world was stupefied due to the Global Pandemic Covid-19 and the best of global health infrastructure failed, it was New India with the ‘mantra’ of ‘Sarve Santu Niramayaha’ (May All Be Healthy) that helped the struggling world to fight against Covid-19. India was the only country to deliver medicines like paracetamol & hydroxychloroquine to over 120 countries. A show of strength of India’s Pharmaceutical prowess, it supplied over 58.6 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine to 71 countries in 55 days as a part of ‘Vaccine Maitri’ program. 80.75 lakh were sent as gift to the nations that need the most and 165.24 lakh doses have been delivered as part of Covax mechanism under the aegis of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation. India’s vaccine maitri program proved out to be the ‘Sanjeevani’ (Life Saving herb) for the world to fight against Covid-19.

When the second wave of Covid-19 striked India in March-April 2021, we witnessed unprecedented global efforts to help India during it’s fight against the virus. From United States to European Union, Australia to Russia & Thailand to Singapore, countries around the world came ahead to add strength to India’s fight against Corona virus.

The 27 member bloc activated its civil protection mechanism, which responds to emergencies in Europe and beyond, in response to request from India by the European Union. Germany helped by availing mobile oxygen production plant for three months as well as 8- million KN95 masks, 12 ventilators and also will airlift crucial medical equipments to India along with organising webinar on testing and RNA sequencing. France came up with the help of 8 oxygen generating plants that can meet needs of 250 bed hospital, 5 containers of liquid oxygen – enough for 200 patients for 5 days, 28 respirators, 200 syringe pumps and 5 liquid oxygen containers to come next week under Phase 2. Ireland gave 700 oxygen concentrators that reached on wednesday and will also provide one oxygen generator with 365 ventilators. Countries like belgium gave 9000 doses of remdesivir, Romania gave 80 O2 concentrators and 75 O2 cylinders, Mauritius gave 200 O2 concentrators, Luxembourg gave 58 ventilators, Portugal helped with 5503 vials of remdesivir and 20000 litres of oxygen per week while Sweden helped with 120 ventilators. Britain will be sending more than 600 pieces of vital medical equipments in nine consignments along with 120 non invasive ventilators and 20 manual ventilators with 495 oxygen concentrators. Countries like Saudi Arabia also helped by sending 80 MT of liquid oxygen, United Arab Emirates is in talks with the Indian government for airlifting high capacity oxygen tankers and Thailand with a consignment of empty containers for medical oxygen that already arrived.

United States extended its support to India by unveiling a proposed package of assistance that will include oxygen generation systems and components for oxygen supply chain such as transport and cylinders. The assistance could include oxygen generation systems for field hospitals that cater for 50 to 100 beds. It will also share its stock of 60 million doses of astrazeneca vaccines with the world, a part of which may come to India. It was United states which allowed the supply of raw materials for Covid vaccines to India after putting restriction on exports of medical equipments and materials. “Today, I spoke with PM Narendra Modi and pledged America’s full support to provide emergency assistance and resources. India was there for us, and we will be there for them”, conveyed US President Joe Biden after his telephonic conversation with PM Modi.

Apart from it, Russia also helped with 2 special aircraft with wide range of covid related assistance including oxygen generators, concentrators and drugs such as Favipiravir. Singapore extended its support by giving 8000 oxygen concentrators, 500 BiPAP machines, 250 oxygen concentrators and other medical supplies. Australia came up with the support of 500 ventilators, 1 million surgical masks, 500000 P2 and N95 masks, 100000 goggles, 100000 pairs of gloves, 20,000 face shields, up to 3,000 ventilators and will also deliver 100 oxygen concentrators by next week.

Along with the countries coming ahead to help India, there are some private sectors who also extended their help during this challenging times like Gilead, the maker of remdesivir, has offered to supply 1,00,00 vials of drug free of cost. Google has offered INR 135 crore in funding for GiveIndia and Unicef. US-India strategic partnership Forum is assisting with 12 containers to transport oxygen in India and will also be airlifting cylinders. It is also sourcing 100,000 portable oxygen concentrators. Procter and Gamble will contribute towards the vaccination of more than 500,000 Indians by pledging INR 50 crore. Countries like Canada & U.A.E also showed their support to India by lightning up their structures in tricolor.

It was New India under the leadership of PM Modi, that transformed the global trend by putting to use its principle thought of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbaka’ & ‘Sarve Santu Niramayaha’. India not only handled the situation for their own citizens with adequate supplies but also helped other countries in this era of global crisis due to Covid-19 which has taught the world a new lesson of humanity during this pandemic era. This has inspired over 20 countries and 4 global companies to extend their support to strengthen India’s fight against Covid19 instantly.

Empathy to numbers– A COVID shift

0

Think of a time in pre-COVID India when people were somewhat empathetic towards the death news that appear in media. If not empathetic at least people were sympathetic towards them. This culture of kindness or love or sympathy towards ‘others’, with whom we share no relation except as the same nationals, was an important element in maintaining cohesion among the members of the society. But this got a huge blow with the COVID crisis. Today with the normalization of loss of lives every day, deaths have become just numbers. Normalization of any unfavorable phenomenon will have a deteriorating impact on the society. A typical example would be the patrilocal practice (practice of couple settling in the husband’s home or community) after marriage. Though accepted by everyone in the society, the practice was clearly a manifestation of patriarchy which was being left unnoticed. Thus, normalization of a bad phenomenon should be thrown out in the initial stages itself.

Of course, we feel bad when the number of COVID cases increase and feel better when the number of deaths decrease. But this relaxation never equals the empathy that we possessed in pre-COVID times. Though this shift is not any individual’s fault, it is important to understand this psychological shift.

Empathy, as the ability to understand and share someone else’s feelings, promotes kindness among the people. When you understand the sufferings of the kith and kin of a person who had lost his/her life in an accident, you won’t drive your vehicle fast. So, in a way empathy encourages one to be more responsible. But in the case of COVID, the deaths become so huge in quantity and was normalized, that the qualitative aspects of loss of lives were often overlooked. The recent Kumbh Mela crowd was a best example. Apart from other reasons there was an element of empathy attributed to the huge crowd. If people in Kumbh Mela have understood the sufferings of a COVID affected family, the crowd would have been much lesser, despite the irresponsible governance and hyper religiosity. But People had seen the deaths due to COVID only in quantitative aspects as numbers.

Recent election campaigns in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal saw huge crowd surrounding the popular party faces. Election Commission failed in strictly directing the parties to reduce the crowd. But why there wasn’t an all-party consensus among the political parties themselves in these election states to limit the crowd? Firstly, it is the duty of a political party to ensure the safety of the people as every political party competing to come to power. But in this power race, no party ready to care for the people. Here comes the role of empathy in ensuring the safety of the people. If these political parties would have understood the sufferings of a COVID affected family, an all-party consensus would have been reached before the elections. But during campaigning, people are seen in terms of number of votes, overlooking the qualitative aspect of one’s life.

In both the above cases of festival and elections, the lack of empathy towards the affected society, reduces the social cohesion within the society. This ultimately alienates the marginalized section of the society, who are always the first victim of any crisis.

Apart from the above cases, today every one of us view the COVID death only in numbers, though it’s not an individual’s fault. As said above, the normalization of deaths makes this shift. These huge numbers give us fear, but not empathy. Fear can deter us from being infected with the virus, but empathy can do more than that. To understand this let us ask ourselves some question regarding the effects that the COVID will have on the post COVID world. What’s going to be the future of a huge number of children who lost their parent or parents COVID crisis?  How the parents, who lost their children due to COVID, going to cope up with the loss? What about the fate of the school drop-outs because of COVID? What will be the ripple effect of the COVID for a daily wage earner or those in informal sectors or the migrants?

For all these questions, the answer lies in the coming days.

In every crisis, let it be flood, drought or COVID, the most affected people are the ones who were already affected the most. Socially, educationally and economically backward classes suffers a lot in every crisis. These people are always alienated from the society after every crisis. The section of population who needs the most from the State, are often left in the development process of the country. With the loss of empathy among the people this further aggravate the situation.

There were many steps that the government of the country should take to mitigate the sufferings of the above-mentioned people in the post COVID world. But what we as a society should do? The post COVID world needs a society that was more empathetic and kind to each other. Let us come out of the number game in COVID deaths and try to understand the sufferings of the people whose lives or livelihood has been affected due to COVID. It’s not that you should always think about the sufferings of others, instead try to understand once, the situation of the affected people from their point of view.

Thus, understanding how the post COVID world will be and the importance of empathy in a post COVID society will make a huge difference in the attitude of the people. This inturn will lead to a more cohesive society with reduced inequalities, that cares for each other.

Rampyari Gurjar the girl who held the Saffron Flag high is a fictional character?

0

Taimur ruled from Samarkand, his capital. His kingdom extended from West Asia to India via Central Asia. He is counted amongst the great and ruthless conquerors of the world. Taimur alleged his co-religionist, Nasiruddin Mahmud Shah Tughlaq, Sultan of Delhi, for being too tolerant towards his Hindu subjects. He wanted Sultan of Delhi to convert every Hindu to Islam.

Well going deep into the histories of rulers, Hindu or Muslim, analysing their traits I do realise that they always had an excuse to attack another province or estate when it was under a weak ruler or under some political unrest. Undoubtedly Taimur held many Hindu subjects captive but his prime aim was to loot India of it’s wealth initially. The idea of conversion to Islam is supposedly an agenda to primarily accuse the Tughlaq ruler. Tughlaq’s themselves were too harsh on their Hindu subjects. What further did Taimur want him to be?

Most of the available historical records glorify Taimur’s conquest of Delhi. These records don’t mention the barbaric Turco-Mongol conqueror’s failed
expedition in Meerut, Haridwar, and the Garhwal region. However the episode is described in 15th-century Persian historian Sharaf-ad-Dīn‘Alī Yazdī’s book Zafarnama , a biography on Taimur. The same is quoted by Muhammad ibn Arabshah, an Arab writer and traveler, in a biography on the Turco-Mongol conqueror.

In December 1398, with a brutal intent to spread Islam by force, Taimur Lang attacked Delhi. His army plundered and massacred lacs of defenseless people who had meant no harm to his army and only wanted to be left alone. It is said Taimur’s blood thirsty army of looters committed naked dance of death and destruction butchering lacs of innocent people and mass rape of hapless women that Delhi took a century to recover. Brutality and bestiality crossed all the limits, when barbarians of Taimur Lang erected heads of decomposing bodies of dead citizens like structures for vultures to feast.

Then we read that Taimur didn’t want to stay in India and hence he left. Come on, his mission was the spread of Islam and looting of India. He had achieved neither of them to the fullest. Why would he leave? I’ll ask the historians to stop joking with the Indians. The truth is far from what is mentioned. The truth is that Rampyari Gurjar and Jograj Singh Gurjar along with the tribes of the Garhwal region offered them a tough resistance before Harbir Singh Gulia Jat was able to hit Taimur on his chest with a spear. In retaliation, Taimur’s soldiers badly wounded Harbir. Jograj Singh Gurjar took charge of the situation, at the same time facilitating the wounded Harbir to be taken to a safe place. The wounded Taimur, escorted by one his ablest soldiers, fled the battlefield. It is said Taimur could not recover fully from this wound. Description about this wound in a Haridwar battle finds mention in one of Taimur’s biographies. He died after 7 years. Taimur had come to India with an army of over 1 and half lakh men. He returned with only a few thousand soldiers.

If your history book has glorified how Taimur attacked and conquered Delhi by committing bloodbath of innocents but has no mention of Rampyari Gurjar and her allies, there is a purpose behind it. The said historians do not want you to draw inspiration from your ancestors. It would not be wonder, if they claim Rampyari Gurjar Chauhan, who exudes sheer strength and courage, to be fictitious character, because she busts falsehood of Taimur Lang’s heroism, which the said historian has created. The only places she finds mention is in the folk songs of Western UP and southern Uttarakhand.

Of course it’s true that there are people who consider her to be a ficitonal character. Ramayana and Mahabharata have also been denied, although archaelogoy has proved that they are history not myths. The Saraswati River was also considered fictitious and the books having a mention of the river were claimed as works of fiction. Most people claimed that a Ram Setu can never be built with stones but now it does attract the attention of archaeologists and historians all over the world.

Historians don’t even glorify Shivaji Maharaj, Maharana Pratap, Rana Sanga, Ahilya Bai Holkar, Rani Laxmibai, Guru Gobind Singh and Banda Singh Bahadur to the fullest, whom even the British writers praise how can we expect them to pen down about Rampyari Gurjar, who had lived when the Europeans hadn’t even discovered India? I’m sure that if they hadn’t even arrived in 1498, most likely we’d even forget people like Maharana Pratap and call them to be a fictious character as well.

Putting my views in, I’ll say as far as Maharana Pratap or Shivaji are considered they existed in the times of Akbar and Aurangzeb. They proved to be their greatest enemies. These Mughal rulers had writers and poets in their courts and therefore the very presence of the Mughal Rule and their resistors appears to be omnipotent. Talking about Rampyari Gurjar, she had performed this heroism when the Tughlaq rule was destroyed and Taimur who didn’t come to India to stay but to plunder and loot. Why would he consider mentioning about her?

Much of the historical records available about the glories and victories of Indian warriors were destroyed by the British. This was to prove their superiority and show the later generations and the world that they were superior and that they civilized India. The Gurjars were very brutal against British. They slaughtered a great number of Britishers. In return, the British declared the Gurjars as a criminal tribe in records and wiped off whatever historical records they could come across about this community.

It’s high time that we recognise the bravery of our ancestors and realise that we have the same blood flowing in our veins. We realise that reading History books of our fake acamadecians just for passing the examinations isn’t enough. We need to keep reading our History and Geopolitics from as many sources as we can.

When would India glorify warriors like Gurjari Rampyari Chauhan in its history text books? How long students of India would continue to study one sided glorification of Islamic invaders in history text books?

A statue of Rampyari Gurjar would tell how women in India has been empowered since ancient times. Shouldn’t India build a statue of Gurjari Rampyari Chauhan to disseminate strength, courage and bravery in current and coming generation? Oh I’m sorry building her statue would attract liberals from all over India asking to build hospitals and schools instead of a statue. Stand-up comedians in their own way have already tried to condemn the building of The Shivaji Statue in Maharashtra.

Will Bengal elections change Indian politics forever?

0

Quoting Veer Savarkar, “The day Hindus unite Congress will wear thread over their coat.”

During his time he had not seen so many parties, neither were their agenda too Hinduphobic but as years passed minority appeasement became a way to win elections. Prashant Kishor himself accepts that minority appeasement has been a part and parcel of the politics in Bengal be it the TMC, the LEFT or the INC.

Be it INC in the centre or TMC, SP and AAP in their states they have never failed to take Muslim votes on their side. Appeasing is a part of the game and can be accepted but not on the cost of cursing the Hindu Gods. Who will forget TMC leader Saayoni Ghosh’s tweet on Shivratri.

Hindus have been divided on so many backgrounds. Keeping the varna system aside, INC has played lot of politics by dividing Hindus further into segments like the Upper Class v/s the Lower Class, the Shivaites v/s Vaishnavites, the Reserved Lower Castes v/s the Unreserved Lower Castes. By doing this they had managed to keep majority both at the centre and the states. Even the rest of the parties have enjoyed this benefit. Since the Hindus were divided whoever was able to capture the minority vote bank would become the winner of the elections.

Back in 2014 and then again in 2019 the rise of Narendra Modi and the BJP has been worrying all the other parties. The rise of BJP clearly indicates that Hindus are collectively voting for BJP. Even some of the Muslims who have realized that they didn’t actually receive any development even after mass voting for a particular political party have started voting for BJP. BJP’s slogan of “Sabka saath sabka vikas” has attracted many.

Bengal and Kerala have more percentage of Muslims than any other state. Though it’s tough for BJP to defeat the LDF in Kerala they have significant chances in Bengal. The rise of Dilip Ghosh who has been working for these elections since past two years and the wild card entry of Suvendu Adhikari into Saffron Politics will definitely prove to be useful. Not forgetting the contributions from the Tollywood actress Locket Chatterjee and journalist Swapan Dasgupta BJP clearly has a upper hand. Though there are bleak chances for BJP in Muslim majority areas and some areas of urban Bengal where the TMC is clearly appearing victorious, the rural community and the Dalits are clearly in favor of Narendra Modi. Since the Non-Bengalis would massively vote for BJP and the Communists chanting slogans like, “Pehle Ram badme Vaam” the 200 plus target of Amit Shah appears to be achievable. The infiltration of Bangladeshi Muslims, Muslim appeasing TMC politics and the offended Dalits have clearly risen debate over Mamta’s chances of making to the CM office for a third time.

When the Dalits were offended by the present rule, Sujata Mondal Khan’s comments on Dalits have further raised anti-incumbency sentiments against the in power Mamata Government.

Mahua Moitra targetting the people with Choti as Chotiwala Rakshasa clan and accepting her love for the Rohingyas will also prove to be very painful to the TMC on 2nd of May.

We have already seen Rahul Gandhi calling himelf a Janeudhaari Brahmin and Arvind Kejriwal starting to go to temples. Mamta Didi chanting Chandi Paath and openly revealing her Gotra clearly indicates that even they have realized their mistakes. If BJP wins in Bengal single-handedly they would get to know it clearly that it was not the mass voting of the Muslims but the majority Hindus voting for them that brought them to power. They will be compelled to realize that even the Kisaan Andolan and the CAA protests couldn’t end the people’s love for Modi.

According to me, Bengal elections would surely end Hinduphobia from Indian politics or else these parties will dissolve and destroyed never to return back again. Congress is standing in a condition when it has been fractioned many a times, a further division would clearly end the existence of the oldest political party of the country. While the Red corridor has been clearly destroyed if the Congress led UDF wins in Kerala the Left parties will seize to play any sort of domination in Indian politics.

Hypocrisy of Indian civil society and their Western sponsors: A rejoinder

On 13 April 2021, I read a column in Prague, Czech Republic based Project Syndicate site titled “Modi’s war on the press” authored by Shashi Tharoor, writer, columnist, sitting MP in Indian Parliament and former Minister of State for External Affairs, Government of India. Prior to the above, he was Deputy Secretary General in UNO and had a failed bid in 2006 for UN Secretary General. In a nutshell, one can comfortably claim, Shashi Tharoor is a leading who’s who in Indian Civil Society.

In the intro, in the said column, the author writes and I quote, “Freedom of the press is the mortar that binds together a free society. If Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to de-institutionalize what used to be a dynamic and independent Fourth Estate persists, public confidence in the media will steadily decline, along with confidence in Indian democracy.”

While Shashi says, “Freedom of the press is the mortar that binds together a free society”, a statement which no sensible person carrying slightest democratic value in his mind can dispute, going further, he writes in the column, “In late January, police filed criminal charges – including sedition, which carries a life sentence – against eight journalists who covered a protest in Delhi that turned violent. Their crime: reporting the claims of a dead protester’s family that he had been shot and killed by the police. I (Shashi) face the same charges for having tweeted their claim when it was reported.”

Here, my question to Shashi: Were you present at the site of shooting along with family of dead farmer so that they claimed ‘on your ear instantly’ that their family member -a protesting farmer- killed in police firing which you instantly tweeted? Certainly, as per reports available, you and family member of dead farmer were not present at the site of farmer’s (whether the death occurred due to accident/police firing that court will adjudicate after reviewing the visuals and post mortem report) death. Where were you at that time? Where were the family members at that time? What is the time of your tweet and when the family member of killed farmer ‘claimed’ that you have quoted in your column I refer here? The court will certainly raise this issue. Truth is: You along with some other senior journalists tweeted ‘Protesting farmer killed in police firing’ as soon as you heard ‘farmer died in accident’ from your sources or though media with malicious intention to provoke agitating misguided farmers to be further violent leading to blood bath on sacred Republic Day to satisfy your vested political interest hoping since you are who’s who in Indian politics and civil society having close association internationally, nobody could touch you.

But when police dared to file the FIR, you innovated an excuse, and I quote “Their crime: reporting the claims of a dead protester’s family that their family member had been shot and killed by the police. I face the same charges for having tweeted their claim when it was reported” assuming that you can remain untouched with assumed logic that if late Rajiv Gandhi after slaughtering 3000 Sikhs in broad daylight in national capital in 1984 using his party goondas could get title of Bharat Ratna (Diamond of India) and his Samadhi (resting place) be branded Vir Bhumi (place of brave), why not you for this misinformation campaign? Is it that India’s who’s who are free to do whatever they like?

In the meanwhile, time has changed, but you are not. Note: now, Lutyen power mafia, who were ruling India since 1947 for consecutive several decades using a corrupt and brutal dynasty at the helms of the affairs, are no more calling the shots.

What you (Shash Tharoor) were expecting from Modi Government? Should he allow misinformation campaign to thrive unchecked? Do misinformation campaigns act like ‘mortar to bind together a free society’ and enrich democracy? You have got decade’s long international exposures as a senior diplomat in UNO. What those experiences say? Please tell….

In 2019, Vinod K Jose, Executive Editor – The Caravan and a co-accused in the above said case, stated during a session on ‘Religion and the Media’ at the Global Conference for Media Freedom in London in 2019, and I quote, “the RSS (an NGO working for national rejuvenation) engineered the pogrom against the Sikhs in 1984”. Has the world forgotten that villainous statement of Congress Party owner Rajiv Gandhi “When big banyan tree falls, earth shakes” when his party goondas H. K. L. Bhagat, Jadish Tytler, Sajjan Kumar, etc. (Rajiv Gandhi after coming to power -elected post-riot- had rewarded Bhagat and Tytler with ministerial berths in his government) leading slaughtering of innocent Sikhs in broad daylight on the street of national capital? Does Jose in this case behave like a journalist? Lie-peddling is not journalism.

Even if for you and Project Syndicate think blatant lie-peddling is journalism and media dynamism, you people are curse to democracy and shame of liberal society, and your act will not bind society like mortar but destroy the lie-peddlers as truth like fire cannot be hidden. And this is the reason why once a leading periodical The Caravan, which I was reading regularly during my student days as student of media studies and after as suggested by professor, has lost its shine in the recent past. Regarding other co-accused in the farmer’s death case, there are plenty of above kind’s lie-peddling allegations against them. One of them, a senior Consulting Editor, in a leading media house was suspended from anchoring for weeks and lost his one month salary as punishment for fake news circulation in farmer’s death case.

During the reign of Covid19, Indian journalists working for foreign media -particularly Western- mostly show sensitive part of tragedy. Per example: Crematorium and shortage of oxygen are highlighted, and Shashi branded this kind of journalism in his tweeter handle as ‘Patriotic Journalism’. These journalists have ignored to highlight positive side of effort done to address the tragedy, which has engulfed the entire world without discrimination, apart from Western betrayal to India over the issue.

My question to them: Is that those who born in India are immortals? Per day normal deaths in India pre-Covid are roughly 28,000. During last three to four days when this alleged reporting happened, India’s total Covid related death is below 2,800. Means ten bodies gone to crematorium, one body is Covid related. But the picture showed in foreign media as if all the bodies were Covid deaths. Next question: What is the number of deaths taken place in US/Europe due to Covid, and what is the percentage of the same to average normal deaths in those countries?

Wish Shashi and Project Syndicate will do little labour to get the data as link provided here? Has Indian media highlighted this aspect that is what is happening in US, Britain, etc. where comparatively better health care facilities are available? Should Indians forget Shashi’s quoting that Britain has looted $45 trillion from India which was used to build her several infrastructures including health? Has Indian journalists highlighted India’s Vaccine Maitri? How could George Soros’ derogatorily branded Hindu nationalist Government of Narendra Modi went ahead distributing vaccine to poor countries so far neglected by rich countries which went ahead blocking 9/7/3 times more requirement of their people saying ‘America First’, etc. despite electoral risk in a country (India) where every year there is this or that cut-throat election. Though abused, Modi went ahead distributing vaccine simultaneously vaccinating his own people through WHO appreciated mechanism.

Has Western media which has been champion of liberal democratic politics, human rights, etc. questioned Biden Administration when it went ahead blocking vaccine raw materials invoking war time laws and saying ‘If US is safe, world is safe’? Has Western media, their collaborator, Shashi Tharoor and Project Syndicate asked President Biden ‘How could he blocked raw materials to India despite it was known fact that it was India which rescued US in 2020 providing life-saving drugs during brutal reign of Covid in 2020 and then US President promised that moment US got the vaccine India would get preferential supply as reciprocal measure?

Now, if Shashi thinks public confidence in the media will be built up in the presence of the above kind of journalism, Indian democracy will be another mobocracy (anarchy) in no time. Sorry Shashi, we unknown, who are often branded as Tom-Dick-Harish, troll army and bhakt (blind worshippers) by leading journalists having privilege to publish their columns in leading newspapers and anchoring in leading TV channels using Queen’s language, will not allow such blatant loss of Indian democratic value even if insider-trading accused George Soros funded Project Syndicate provide platform to you.
