India-Bangladesh Eternal Ties: A Role Model For any neighboring country in the whole world

0

Bangladesh-India bilateral relations are a role model in the world in terms of relations with neighboring countries. India-Bangladesh relations are deep and have evolved over time. India is Bangladesh’s true friend. Bangladesh-India relations are a role model for any neighboring country in the whole world.

On 6 December 1971, India granted diplomatic recognition to Bangladesh as an independent and sovereign country. On the same day, some time ago, Bhutan recognized Bangladesh as the first country in the world. Although it was officially recognized on December 6, India has been standing by Bangladesh since the unofficial liberation war started. Provides shelter and food to one-crore refugees, provides training and arms to the freedom fighters, and provides all possible assistance to the expatriate government, including garnering international support diplomatically.

After India’s recognition on 6 December, Pakistan was quickly defeated in a joint attack by the Mukti Bahini and the Allied forces. The state of Bangladesh was born on the world map. That is why the day is so important for Bangladesh and India. India is Bangladesh’s oldest and truest neighbor. India was the first state to recognize Bangladesh on December 6 before the final victory was achieved on December 16.

This relationship has expanded in many different ways as the spirit of friendship, understanding and mutual respect developed during the Bangladesh War of Independence continued. He said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, India and Bangladesh have become partners in a ‘golden chapter’ by establishing the prosperity and stability of the people of both countries.

Bangladesh is celebrating the birth centenary of the father of the nation and 50 years of independence and this year is also the 50th year of Bangladesh-India diplomatic relations. During the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Dhaka in March, a meeting of the Prime Ministers of the two countries decided to observe ‘Friendship Day’ on December 6. This year, for the first time, Bangladesh and India celebrate ‘Friendship Day’ in many countries (more than 16).

Bangladesh’s ‘Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’ laid the foundation of relations between the two countries through a 25-year ‘Friendship Agreement’ in 1972, which the present Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has consolidated and diversified since coming to power. The Ganges River water agreement in 1996, exchange of enclaves in 2015, provision of transit facilities, and maritime boundaries have been identified through his hands. Bangladesh has now become an important partner of India due to its border policy of ‘Neighbors first’

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh-India relations, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reiterated her commitment to work to further strengthen the 50-year-old diplomatic relationship between India and Pakistan. “We continue to believe in the importance of mutual relations,” she said. At the same time, this anniversary has given us an opportunity to think about the basis of our bilateral relations and the way forward. It is also an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to work towards strengthening the long-lasting dynamic partnership between Bangladesh and India. Now it is necessary to focus on connectivity, trade, business, and communication among the people; Of bilateral relations which has gradually become important. The Prime Minister said this in a video message recorded on the anniversary of the recognition of Bangladesh by India on December 6.

The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has expressed his determination to work for further expansion and deepening of Bangladesh-India relations. With that said: I am eager to continue working with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina.

In a tweet on the occasion of Friendship Day, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi said: Today is the Friendship Day of India and Bangladesh. Together we are remembering and celebrating 50 years of friendship. I look forward to continuing to work with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, to broaden and deepen our ties.

On the occasion of Friendship Day, a year-long program has been taken to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and India on different fronts. Among these Bangabandhu-Bapu digital exhibitions are being displayed in different cities of Bangladesh and India. The exhibition was jointly inaugurated by the Prime Ministers of Bangladesh and India during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Dhaka in March 2021. The two leaders also unveiled stamps commemorating 50 years of Bangladesh-India friendship.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of friendship between the two countries, exchange of visits of veterans of war, an inspection of ships, sports program, cultural and other programs are also being organized. Apart from Dhaka and Delhi, Bangladesh-India Friendship Day is being celebrated in 16 countries of the world.

This year will be very significant for the harmony and friendship between Bangladesh and India. On the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of independence, Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi arrived in Bangladesh on March 26-27 and President of India Ramnath Kobind will decorate the closing ceremony of Victory Day. It is being heard that the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina will be the chief guest on the Republic Day of India. Undoubtedly, a unique example of harmony, friendship, and love will be created. It is true that Bangladesh and India are the closest partners in political, diplomatic, commercial, economic, developmental, cultural, security, and even people-to-people contacts.

Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi laid the foundation of relations between the two countries on 19 March 1972 through the ‘Treaty of Friendship’. The trade agreement was signed in 1973 and the Mujib-Indira border agreement in 1974. After the assassination of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu in 1975, all the social, political, economic, and commercial relations between Bangladesh and India deteriorated. After 21 years, when Awami League came to power, an atmosphere of trust and expectation was created again. The agreement is the historic Ganges water agreement. After Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returned to power in 2009, Bangladesh-India relations began to improve. Especially since Narendra Modi came to power in India in 2014, the Prime Ministers of the two countries have taken friendly relations to a new height. The 7-year-old enclave exchange, maritime demarcation, and other unresolved issues began to be resolved one by one.

Revolutionary changes have been made in the communication system of the two countries to make the economy dynamic including trade and commerce. Dhaka, Kolkata, and Khulna-Kolkata passenger train services and rail services for transporting goods from Chilhati in Nilphamari to Haldibari and Dhaka-Siliguri in West Bengal and Dhaka-Kolkata, Dhaka-Agartala, Dhaka-Siliguri-Darjeeling bus services have been introduced. In March, the two prime ministers inaugurated the Sabroom Bridge over the Feni River, which connects Ramgarh in Khagrachari to the state of Tripura. With the connection of 1.9 km bridge, not only new business doors have been opened, but also bridges have been built between the people of the two countries. Communication is being established not only by road or rail but also by water. Under the ‘Protocol on Inland Water Transit and Trade’ (PIWTT) agreement, there are plans to connect the Sonamuri-Daudkandi route of the Gumti river and the waterway from Dhulia-Godagari to Aricha on the Padma. Cargo transportation activities have been started from Chittagong port to Tripura. But some pending issues such as the Teesta water-sharing issue, decrease of border killings along the border should be resolved as soon as possible. It would be better for both countries.

During the visit of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina to New Delhi in April 2017, a military agreement was signed between the two countries. As a result, the military forces of the two countries will be able to conduct joint exercises and training. The agreement states that India will provide training and technical assistance to Bangladesh through military experts. This is the first defense agreement between the Indian government and a foreign country.

One of the most important issues in the world in recent times is the coronavirus vaccine. India is the first country to provide free vaccines to Bangladesh. When coronavirus infections continue to spread rapidly, there is a lack of liquid oxygen in both countries. Even in such a situation, ‘Oxygen Express’ entered Bangladesh with 180 tons of oxygen.

On the basis of Bangladesh-India relations, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman said on 8 February 1972 at the historic ‘Brigade Parade Ground’ in Calcutta, ‘India-Bangladesh friendship will remain intact forever. No power in the world can separate it. Occasionally some anti-independence, fundamentalist forces try to destroy the relations between the two countries. But their efforts will not succeed. Because the basis of Bangladesh-India friendly relations is trust and confidence. This relationship is written in the blood through the great liberation war. This relationship between the people of the two countries cannot be severed. This relationship is not only between the two states but also between the people of the two countries. The Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina and the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi have taken the friendly relations between the two countries to a new milestone in history. I hope that this relationship will become stronger and stronger. The relations between two neighboring countries show the path to others how neighboring countries can become an all-weather and eternal tie. Of course, Bangladesh-India bilateral relations are a role model for any neighboring country in the world in terms of relations with establishing ties with neighboring countries.

Islamic brainwashing in west Bengal: An effort to make Bengali Hindus forget their identity

0

These mentioned books are spreading in West Bengal. They are sold like a hot cake. The main subject of the 2 books are as stated in its title the identity of Bengali people. They want to prove that Bengali people were never Hindu. They were invaded by the outsiders with their own religion and culture and later they dislike this embraced culture and they chose to accept Islam. Hence, they were never Hindu.

This is a blatant lie. For the following reason I am totally rejecting their propaganda.:

  1. 1. West Bengal is a rich with Vaishnab culture with Nabadwip as a center and Gour as a historical center of Vaishnavism.
  2. 2. West Bengal is rich with Shakta culture with 3 Shaktipeeth in both east and west Bengal.
  3. 3. West Bengal is rich with Vedic culture with Bhatpara of West Bengal and Bramhanbaria of the Bangladesh as center of Vedic culture.
  4. 4. West Bengal is rich with Shaiva culture because we have links with Kashi.

But many people who are either ignorant or being forced are accepting these deadly views. they slowly slowly keep rejecting their Hindu identity.

The contention of the above books are that they reject the idea of undivided Bengal. They said that Bengal was divided into 3 parts by Ganga and Bramhaputra river. The western bank of Ganga is West Bengal, the eastern bank of Ganga is middle Bengal and the eastern bank of Brahmaputra is eastern Bengal. They say that Hinduism did not cross Ganga and middle Bengal and east Bengal has no Hinduism. Islam started spreading from East Bengal after the time of prophet and Muslims crossed Ganga and Brahmaputra and spread Islam all over Bengal. With this history Bengalis are not Hindu.

Source of these books

The 2 books are composed from mostly clandestine historical sources. Mostly are Bengali historian who are not well known. sometimes author cited his own books as source. I don’t know how valid is this practice. We don’t have any idea as to how valid are these unknown or lesser known historical source.

Refutation of these books

We Bengalis are definitely Hindus. Our forefathers were also Hindus. Eastern Bengal as they call it has Dhakeswari Kali Mandir and Ramana Kali Mandir. Both were very ancient and some shaktipeeth of 51 shaktipeeth. They are proof that Hinduism was there in eastern part of Bengal. Central Bengal as they call it has one Shaktipeeth in Srihatta otherwise known as Sillehte. This is also a proof that middle Bengal has Hinduism there. Also creation of Bangladsh is a political matter and ethnic charactaristics and religious charactaristics have nothing to do with it.

Effect of those books on Bengali Hindu

Bengali Hindus are slowly but steadily forgetting their identity. They are identifying themselves more as Muslim and less as Hindus. This is a VERY DANGEROUS SIGN since if people’s mind is changed totally then people will spontaneously support Bangladesh and Islam and then India will not be able to control the mind of the mass. Since modern battlefield is civil society according NSA Ajit Doval, we must take steps against this mass brainwashing to stop a future partition.

“A God who hates” and India

Some years back I was very confused and failed to understand why Islamists and Leftists were so friendly to each other in non-Muslim, non-Leftist democratic countries like India, where both Muslims and Leftists were in minority. I did not know how Allah-dependent Islamists could be friends of Allah-less Leftists? Then I discovered that in the Islamist-Leftist friendship, Allah was irrelevant. It was the totalitarianism of Islamic and Leftist ideologies that brought the two diverse groups together. Both the ideologies ruthlessly control body and mind of the people those have infected. The control mechanism is structured and asserted by designated classes, – Ulema or Party members.

My next confusion was with the attitude and behavior of some Muslim women of India like Rana Ayyub, Arfa Khanum Sherwani, Saba Naqvi, Sheila Rashid and Zainab Sikander et al. While they enjoy a free and un-Islamic public lifestyle, why they remain the most vocal Islamists in India? Then I read the book A God who hates written by Wafa Sultan (First published in 2009 from USA), and could understand the psychology of said group of Indian Muslim women. The book is autobiographical, which made Wafa Sultan “The courageous woman who inflamed the Muslim world…..”

Wafa Sultan was born and brought-up in a Syrian Arab Muslim family. Her maternal grandmother’s sufferings in the hands of her grandfather jolted her from within in childhood. Her mother too lived a completely passive and subdued life. The social system in her Muslim Arab society, which denied the moral and emotional space for women’s lives, disturbed her a lot. Her going back again and again to the ogre called Allah was symbolic of her resentment towards Allah and the fear oriented and oppressive Islam. Her finding of inspiration for life from the Statue of Liberty was a means of liberation from that ogre, fear and oppression.

As a medical student in Syria, Wafa saw many cases of sexual abuse of girls in her Arab Muslim community by their fathers, brothers, uncles or any close male family member. The apparent conservatism and show-off of morality in the Islamic society was actually masking a culture of petrified and barbaric sexual assault on girls. Girls were treated as means of sexual enjoyment by male members of the families with the knowledge of elder women. Men took all decisions of their women’s lives. The propaganda of woman’s empowerment by Islam was completely fraud.

Wafa also narrated multiple cases of brutalities on women by male members and was surprised to find that even women in her society were against fellow women and supported those brutalities on their cohort. During those days Wafa had bitter arguments with a male family friend who used to quote from Quran and Sayings of Prophet to justify the restricted, passive and humiliating role of women under Islam. If that was the picture of Arab Muslim society in twentieth century, one would shudder at the thought of what the situation was 1400 years back.

Wafa Sultan’s migration to USA in 1989 at the age of 31 years, leaving behind the violence and cruelty in the name of Islam in Syria, catapulted her to the free world. The concept and practice of individual liberty, secularism, pluralism, women’s liberation, freedom of expression she found in USA overwhelmed her, which she embraced very dearly. She became consciously able to distinguish between the open USA society and close Muslim society of her country very intensely. She left Islam and became a bitter critic of the desert barbaric cult.

Wafa Sultan observed that Muslims continued to live in raiding mentality which had come from the raids of their Prophet. She cited examples about her Muslim acquaintances in USA, who had migrated there to escape from Islamic violence in their own countries. They earned and lived a descent life in USA. But still they hated USA from the core of heart and even talked and did silly things to do symbolic harm to USA. In absence of actual physical raiding against non-Muslims people of USA, they resorted to mental and verbal raiding. The ultimate objective of this mentality was to cause harm to the non-Muslim community. But those same immigrant Muslims in USA, without blinking their eyes, were all praises about USA in presence of local people.

In her book A God Who Hates, Wafa Sultan wrote, “No one can be a true Muslim and a true American simultaneously”. She told the most obvious fact which people wanted to sweep under the carpet. Sultan further wrote, “The trouble with Islam is deeply rooted in its teachings. Islam is not only a religion. Islam is also a political ideology that preaches violence and applies its agenda by force”. Wafa’s observations about Islam demolished the argument put across by Muslim apologists, “Islam is perfect but Muslims are not”.

Wafa Sultan mocked the Muslim apologists who claim that Muhammad did all raids as defensive response. She argued that had those raids of Muhammad been defensive, why the Quranic commandments of war booty came? What was the need and morality in collecting war booty from a defensive raid? No man who murders anybody for self defense will steal the wallet, gold ring and wrist watch etc. of the murdered person. [From Battle of Badr (624 AD), early Islam grew on Maal-e-Ghanimat (war booty). The Maal included men, women sex-slaves, animal, money and material. Maal-e-Ghanimat was sanctified by Quran and later justified in Jihad for converting, enslaving and annihilating the Kafir. So, what started as means of desert piracy became a mechanism for spreading and imposing Islam on defeated non-Muslims.]

In case of Rana Ayyub, Arfa Khanum Sherwani, Saba Naqvi, Sheila Rashid and Zainab Sikander et al, it can be said that in Hindu majority India, they are fortunate to grow-up and live a life which is liberal, open, fair and not Sharia-based. They would have tested the real Islam had they been in Arab countries or in Afghanistan. Co-wives, Mehram, Burqa, Children production, sexual abuse during childhood and banishment from male dominated world at physical, mental and intellectual levels would have made them understand what paradise India is for Muslim women like them. Even whatever little women’s liberation one finds in Pakistan and Bangladesh has come from Hindu culture.

But ironically this group of Indian Muslim women has been staunchly Islamist and hates Hindutva, which made them what they are today. They grow up in the freedom of Hindu majority India and use that same freedom to abuse Hindus. Drawing a parallel from the observation of Wafa Sultan it can be said that, no one can be a true Muslim and a true Indian simultaneously. Rana Ayyub, Arfa Khanum Sherwani, Saba Naqvi, Sheila Rashid and Zainab Sikander et al are proving that. They are also classic victims of ‘raiding mentality’ and use different social platforms to cause harm to Hindu Kafir of India through words. Additionally, they don’t need any pretension to cover-up their hatred for Hindus. They may refer to Indian Constitution to support their free and open public life style along with Indian males, but this Constitution was also framed and adopted by Hindu majority India and not by any Sharia following or Muslim majority country.

Repeal of Farm Laws: Vocal minority wins over silent majority

0

PM Modi once again lives up to his reputation of springing surprises. Just that the surprise this time, has neither amused his supporters, nor has it pacified the protesters. Many think this is just a political move with an eye on upcoming Punjab and UP elections, while others believe this is only a tactical retreat. Some also say that there were rising national security concerns with these protests being funded and hijacked by anti-national forces, particularly the overseas pro-Khalistan organizations to incite insurgency in Punjab and other parts of India.

While the real reason behind this abrupt rollback may never be known, this could easily proliferate ‘protest-politics’ that was first piloted at Shaheen Bagh, aimed at arm-twisting the state by using the democratic tools of peaceful protests. Both Shaheen Bagh and farmers’ protests clearly point out how a miniscule minority backed by vested interests can be made powerful enough to have their way in thwarting the decisions taken by elected governments, that are otherwise supported by a vast but silent majority. This phenomenon not just vitiates the basic democratic principle of rule by majority, but more importantly, has the capacity to subvert the authority of constitutional institutions like the parliaments and courts and thus can potentially push a peace-loving country into protracted anarchy.

It is a matter of common knowledge that competitive geopolitics has a big role in domestic developments. Foreign governments, big-tech companies, multinationals, media and civil society work in tandem to destabilize a fast-developing economy like India with a clear intent to maintain their economic, military, ideological and political supremacy over the world. Deficient democracies like India, perforated by colonial legacies of social disharmony, poverty, income inequalities corrupt institutions and a sizable population whose votes can be easily influenced through electoral lozenges, become easy targets for their perverse agenda.

Demoralization, destabilization, crisis creation and ‘normalization’ used to be a well-crafted Soviet strategy for subverting liberal countries. This has been explained in detail by Yuri Bezmenov, a former Soviet spy, who defected in 1970s (watch his interview here). As early as 1983, he explains how countries can be brought into an irreversible crisis using this formula. After the fall of Soviet Union, the West has happily expropriated this strategy against developing nations. The only difference is that instead of a hostile military takeover of the target country, a ‘regime change’ is instigated following a crisis. In the end, victory of democracy is declared upon installation of an amenable government.

In democracies like India, unelected people presiding over powerful institutions like media, courts and civil society wield disproportionate power, as compared to elected representatives, again thanks to the colonial spoils. This renders the right-thinking silent majority voiceless, while small groups of people who are accountable to none, call the shots. They exert substantial influence on public policy and can stall reforms at their sweet will without having to bother about consequences. As it happened with farm laws, the Supreme Court meekly granted precedence to the fundamental right of a few farmers to protest, and completely ignored the resultant abject violation of the fundamental right to free movement on Delhi borders of lakhs of commoners The apex  court also dauntlessly sat on the report of its own expert committee without facing a whimper. The media and opposition obviously towed the line of protestors sensing a political gain. This is how a strong and vocal minority triumphed over the laws passed by the parliament of India – laws that were silently supported by a vast majority of farmers across the country, apart from experts. What a victory for democracy.

Reforms, by their very nature, tend to benefit large sections of the society in the long run but also hurt some sections instantly, especially those who have skimmed the system in absence of reform. Since the benefits (to many) of reforms are distant and contingent but the banes (to some) are real and immediate, those who stand to lose will react immediately, while the potential gainers may prefer to wait and watch. Humans, just like animals, fight harder to prevent losses than to achieve gains. Bedfellows like vested political interests, only worsen this well-known behavioural anomaly.

If reforms are to be salvaged, the silent majority supporting them has to be given a voice, much beyond the ritual of voting in elections, once in 5 years. Western democracies undertake several referendums during the currency of elected governments for this very reason, which perhaps explains why they are able to see through the most difficult of reforms like Brexit without much of a ruckus on streets. Indian democracy has also reached a stage where it can ill-afford to allow unelected and unaccountable powers to bulldoze reforms that are more than overdue.

A referendum on the three farm laws among the almost 11 crore Aadhar linked beneficiary farmers of PM KISAN scheme, could have perhaps saved the country from a pernicious attempt to veto this crucial agriculture reform. It would have also prevented future replicas of such motivated protests. Similarly, for labour reforms, that appear to be the next big target, a referendum among all the employees registered with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO), who are again Aadhar linked, can offer an effective counter. The same route can be successfully adopted for more substantive national interest initiatives like CAA, NRC, population control bill, anti-conversion bill and Uniform Civil Code, which are bound to be met with hostile opposition from small but powerful interest groups.

No doubt, referendums are costly, particularly for a huge country like India and involve mammoth administrative exercise. But this cost is nothing when compared with the opportunity cost of lost reforms and the ignominy of governments having to repeal laws enacted by themselves. Referendums raise the bar of democracy by seeking the citizens’ assent  on critical issues of national importance and most importantly, provide a decisive voice to the silent majority. They can democratically smother the subversive forces that misuse democracy to spark anarchy. It is a democratic response to undemocratic forces acting under the veil of democracy. In India where consensus on reforms is next to impossible, referendums can substantiate the sanctity of reforms and accord greater moral authority to the state while taking coercive action on unwieldy protests driven by ulterior motives, if required. Referendums will also refrain the judiciary from encroaching into policy and governance matters and will restrict them to their core function of interpretation of law.

In absence of enabling constitutional/legal framework, referendums through an executive order may not be legally enforceable, but they can still crumble the whims of the powerful minority that falsely claims to represent the majority. In due course, suitable legal framework for referendums, with sufficient checks and balances can always be put in place.

India needs several economic, social, political and constitutional reforms. After a long wait of 70 years, we at least have a government that has the right intentions on reforms and does not want to wait for a crisis like 1991. For this very reason, and knowing fully well that they can no longer defeat this dispensation electorally, the breaking India forces are now brazenly deploying all kinds of toolkits to destabilize the country. Amidst all of this, the government has only two options – abandon the reform path and become amenable to the adversaries of this nation or take them head on and decimate their ecosystem.

Referendums could just be one of those positive disruptions this country badly needs now.

The reason why Congress is doomed in India

I came across an interesting video, which is a part of recently concluded Agenda Aaj Tak:

No, no don’t worry, I am not going to talk about the nationalism or the nation in this blog. There is something more interesting, much more interesting.

If we look at the panelists, we have Sambit Patra, Kanhaiya Kumar, Hardik Patel and Saket Bahuguna. When I come across any such panel, I feel a little sad. Why? Because this is an unfair debate. Sambit Patra is going to win all the arguments hands down. And fortunately, Sambit Patra knowingly or unknowingly mentioned it during the discussion.

In just the very beginning of the discussion, the debate got personal and Sambit Patra had to bring up his qualifications. That’s the very reason why the panel is unbalanced. He did his MBBS, followed by MS in general surgery. Apart from that he qualified UPSC Combined Medical Examination with All India Rank 19 in the year 2000. He also happens to have Membership of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland (MRCS). Competing with him are Kanhaiya Kumar who did a BA in Geography, followed by an MA and then Phd from JNU’s center for African studies with a very controversial Research Paper published in a Journal that was blacklisted by the globally trusted Beall’s List because it used to accept money for publishing research articles bypassing peer review, also called as a Predatory Journal.

Sitting next to him and taking on Sambit Patra is Hardik Patel, I couldn’t find any educational qualifications past class XII for him. The last panelist on the panel countering Kanhaiya and Hardik, who does not speak much in this debate is Saket Bahuguna from ABVP, he has a BA in French Language and Literature from JNU, an MA in Linguistics from JNU, an MPhil in Linguistics from Delhi University, was a Junior Research Fellow at DU, a Research Fellow at University of Utah followed by being a Graduate Teaching Assistant and an Instructor at the same university.

My point being, Sambit Patra alone has the Intelligence Quotient higher than his opponents combined. How are Kanahiya and Hardik going to make a coherent rational argument stronger then Patra to bring him down? You could see it for yourself from the type of arguments they make. Just after the point when Sambit Patra put forth his qualifications, the very first rebuttal that Kahahiya Kumar comes up with is “you are a doctor, where is your clinic? You should talk about Paracetamol”. That should be a face palm moment for everyone and anyone who was expecting any kind of depth in the arguments.

It’s very simple and straightforward; either you bring experience to the table or you bring intelligence to the table (born or acquired doesn’t matter, you could also call it talent or skills). It could be a political discussion, a technical discussion, a management discussion, doesn’t matter what it is, but you have to have either of the two qualities and relatively more than your opponents to win the discussion. You can’t just come up empty handed, I mean you can, its a democracy, but you and your arguments will be demolished. Of course, you could keep shouting, interrupting, not let the other person speak and try to prove a point by raising your voice to a level that the other person goes mum for a few moments and then take that as your win. Or even better, you could just pick up any of the victim cards that fits your profile; which becomes an agenda for the next discussion plus you get a few brownie points as well!!

This is the biggest fault line with Indian National Congress today. The party is simply accumulating people with little or negligible experience as well as minimal proven intelligence and competing with the ones who have one or both of these qualities. I used “proven” explicitly because everyone thinks he/she is intelligent. But you have to prove it. The likes of Kanhaiya Kumar, Hardik Patel just to name a few have neither proved their intelligence in any way nor do they have any substantial experience. The only thing they have done is that they made themselves visible to a party who is running short on manpower.

Congress sends people like these as spokes-persons to compete with people with sharp minds and exceptional analytical and logical reasoning, more than enough exposure to complex problems and scenarios like Dr. Sambit Patra or Dr. Sudhanshu Trivadi (Phd in Mechanical Engineering) or Dr. Anand Ranganathan (Phd and post doc at Cambridge, UK; joined India International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, where he ran his lab for sixteen long years; joined JNU as an associate professor not in some African Studies or any other such field but Special Centre for Molecular Medicine. His laboratory works in the area of Directed Evolution and Pathogenesis, with special emphasis on Tuberculosis and Malaria); the latter were literally teaching and making “smarty pants” like Kanhaiya fall in line. Kanhaiya and Hardik would not even make to their classes.

Apples and Oranges!! wouldn’t even justify the chasm between the two sides.

Not only is the party not adding enough new members with high intelligence or experience, but it is actually letting go of the few it is left with. At first when I heard that Captain Amarinder Singh was let go of the party, I thought it was a fake news. But I was wrong, the party actually failed to retain him and in return will fail to retain Punjab in the upcoming elections. Does not matter who wins, but Indian National Congress just handed over its strong hold on a silver platter.

We are no more living in an era where brute force prevails. There won’t be any Lalus or Mulayams or any other bahubalis anymore. We are moving towards sophisticated intelligence. Arvind Kejriwal is a living example of this transition; I might not like his politics or his alliances, but his presence gives me a comfort that we are moving in the right direction. The thing that saddens me the most is that people like Kanhaiya, Hardik or Jignesh Mewani etc., the so-called youth leaders have a fanbase in India. They can’t offer anything constructive to their followers. You can’t offer what you don’t have. Can you? This is the saddest thing for a country who wants to be a superpower or super at anything in this highly competitive world. Kids who would follow them would tend to become like them and they would not even know what happened with them.

Thanks for taking out time and reading the article. Please do comment your views and don’t forget to share it with your friends and colleagues!!

Some battles that the Mughals fought at Delhi

0

It is often taught in History books that the Mughals had been the apex predators in the military history of India. This article details some of the battles fought at Delhi in which the Mughals have been a party.

1. 7th October, 1556: Hemchandra (Hemu) vs Mughals

When Humayun’s Governor of Agra saw Hemu’s forces approaching, he fled to Delhi. In his pursuit, Hemu reached Tughlaqabad. Tardi Beg, Mughal Governor of Delhi faced him.

Due to the clever tactics of Hemu, he won the battle as the Mughal officers fled away in terror. He then took possession of Delhi. [1]

2. 30th March, 1737: Marathas vs Mughals

Peshwa Baji Rao’s forces repulsed with heavy losses a Mughal attack of 8,000 troops led by Mir Hasan Khan.

Baji Rao could have acquired control of the capital with an assault but thought it prudent to decamp from Delhi. [2]

3. May, 1753: Jats vs Mughals

It was a part of Safdar Jung’s rebellion. Suraj Mal and Rajendra Giri, on Safdar Jung’s insistence, attacked Old Delhi on 9th. What followed was a total devastation for the Mughals which continued for several days. There were several battles fought in this struggle resulting in several victories for the Jats and Safdar Jung. At its peak, on 17th May, the Kohtila of Firuz Shah was captured.

They moved away south of Delhi after a series of stalemates from 5th June onwards. Safdar Jung’s rebellion continued till November when peace he made peace at Ballabhgarh. [3]

4. 11th August – 3rd September, 1757: Marathas vs Mughals

The real master of Delhi government after Abdali’s exploits was Najib. He was appointed by the Mughal Emperor. Imad, the Wazir, conspired to oust him.

Long story short, Marathas attacked the city from several sides with Raghunath Rao and Malharrao Holkar leading them. ‘Thus Delhi and its Sovereign once again exchanged one master for another.’ Najib was ousted and Imad gained control. [4]

5. November, 1764 – February, 1765: Jats vs Mughals

Jawahar Singh attacked Delhi to avenge his father’s death. He availed help from the Marathas, Sikhs and some Naga Sanniyasis. The siege continued till February. People of Delhi begged for food in the Jat camp or migrated elsewhere. In February 1765, a treaty was signed on payment of Rs. 60 Lakhs as war indemnity. [4] [5]

6. February, 1771: Marathas vs Mughals

On 9th February, Marathas bombed the city from four sides and established their control the next day. Then, they agreed to install Shah Alam as their puppet after securing a compensation of 40 lakh rupees. [4]

Why every non-violent protest shouldn’t be supported in guise of spirit of Democracy; Demands need to be scrutinize without any bias

0

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the repeal of all three farm laws on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti. The contentious farm bills which were made into laws on 27.09.2020 had drawn furies of Farmers, especially from Punjab and Haryana since the day of its enactment.  They are basically the rich farmers of the states who benefit from the large scale buying from FCI at MSP. It is a fact that almost 90% of total rice and wheat cultivated in these both states being bought by FCI at MSP leaving other states at bay.

It is also a fact that less than 10% of the farmers sell their product at Mandi at MSP. For more than 90% of the farmers, price of their crops depends of Market. I am not here to make arguments in support of farms laws, experts have already written about it. I would like to discuss the way people think about any non-violent protest and come to defend it for the sake of defending the Democracy. This inter-alia relation of non-violence protest and safeguarding of Democracy needs to be checked and questioned.

The undemocratic nature of protestors

While we basically assume that if a protest is non-violent then it must be in the resonance of democratic spirit, the very attitude of protestors could make it undemocratic. Starting from 03.12.2020 when Government held first talk with farmers to the total 11 talks between government and farmers, farmers rejects each and every proposal that came in way. From amendments to suspension of laws for one and half year and appointing a joint committee, Farmers rejects them all without having even a thought on those suggestions.

Even farmers reject SC appointee committee and remained firm of their non-negotiable demand of repealing the all three laws. This nature of farmers can be said anything but democratic. This was more of a display power by few who could afford to sit at border over a year all thanks to their wealth and support. The worrying part is not what farmers did, but the way Indian intellectuals, media and even Hon’ble Supreme Court hesitated to point the very undemocratic nature of protestors shows the confusion line between non-violent protest and undemocratic nature of protestors. However this is not a new phenomenon in context of India. We have seen the misuse of concept of non-violence even before we got freedom.

Legacy of past and its continuation

Whether it was Puna pact, or creation of Andhra Pradesh, the first state created on the basis of language, or overturning the Shah Bano Judgment of SC, all these were dictated by non-violent protests. For many, each of above mentioned decisions dictated by non-violent protest, were basically irrational demands and they should have been debated upon rather being forced upon by the opinions of some peaceful protestors. So why it is often the case that we chose to ignore the veracity of demands rather celebrate the protest itself?

When a non-violent protest happens, people see it as a tenet of democracy and no matter how illogical and irrational demands are, they become fearful that if they speak against it, they would be speaking against the spirit of democracy itself. This is a very flawed concept. India, having a 130 crores population, it is not a big task for a group to organize a protest of thousands of men and women and demand something that they think right. In recent years we have seen the protests of Patels in Gujarat and Marathas in Maharashtra for reservation in their respective states. But both the groups have failed to put any qualifying data to show why they should be given reservation at all. Just because those were non-violent protests, they got scot free without getting much and fierce rebuttal by Indian intellectuals and Media.

Why scrutinization of demands is must

As we have already seen in the recent years, protests by special group for the specific demands which are neither rational nor logical have become new phenomena in Indian political discourse. Protests for reservation by the ruling class of society are perfect examples of this trend. If the scrutinization of demands doesn’t take place, this would usher to a new political scenario, where groups having dominant share of voting populations would dictate the government to fall into their demands, no matter how their demands would be. In guise of spirit of democracy, we must not let different social groups to overdose their narrow thinking to whole India. What if a large group of people sits on non-violent Dharna to make this country a reservation free country? Or a group sits on fasts till death for making it a vegetarian country?

Non-violent  protest and Democratic spirit are different

As it has been already discussed that it is not necessarily for a non-violent protest to be in resonance with democratic spirit. To bull doze country with prejudice view of a group by sitting on road for indefinitely is not democratic spirit, especially when the protestors are not ready for any sort of negotiations. Democracy is not about ‘My way or Highway’; rather it is a character of Autocracy. Democratic spirit is about talks, negotiations, convincing people, to have open mind to listen to others and to show signs of flexibility. Also non-violence must not be seen only as physical violence. Non-flexibility of thoughts also must be taken into account. Sufferings of lakhs of people, bringing down the economic activities, blocking roads indefinitely for a demand that requires much deliberations and talks between various stock holders can’t be necessarily called as Democratic spirit. It would be more a case of ‘only I am right and I have the right to enforce what I deem to think as right’. This idea of enforcement shouldn’t be praised in a democratic setup.

We shouldn’t hesitate to call out undemocratic nature of protestors and question the legitimacy of demands without being fearful for being labeled as antagonists of Democracy.
