Blaming the victim is the real bane, not live-in relationships

0

16th December, 2012–– the fateful day which will always be remembered; the day which marked the gruesome gang-rape of Nirbhaya sent shivers down everyone’s spine. Nonetheless, what was more shocking than this despicable crime was the victim-blaming which came forth after the incident made it to the news-channels.

“Why did she go out so late at night?”

“What was she doing so late at night with a male-friend?”

“Why did she take the bus at night?”

The interview given by Mukesh Singh (who drove the bus during the fateful incident) was inundated with such statements. The perpetrator explicitly blamed the victim for ‘going out late at night.’ He unabashedly remarked that “while being raped, the victim should not have fought back; she should have remained silent and allowed the rape.” While victim-blaming is common whenever any case involves a woman as the victim of a crime, it doesn’t make it normal or even justifiable.

Much recently, the murder case of Shraddha Walker has become the focal point of everyone’s discussion. The victim had a live-in relationship with the Accused Aaftab Poonawala, who allegedly killed her and chopped her body into over 30 pieces. It is being claimed, by various news platforms, that Shraddha and Aftab, who met through a dating website, always had an abusive relationship, which unfortunately culminated in her death.

While everyone is repulsed by the gory details of the case, Union Minister Kaushal Kishore used his platform to amplify how these crimes happen to “well educated women, who think they are frank, and have the ability to take decisions about their future.” He went on to even blame live-in relationships for such crimes; suggesting that the victim, who decided to be in a live-in relationship, ‘faced the consequences of her decision.’

Are live-in relationships the real bane?

The Union Minister was quick to blame live-in relationships, and suggested that women should rather go for court-marriages. But can we really say that if Shraddha and Aaftab were married, it would have prevented her gruesome murder? Does marriage avert abuse in a relationship? Conversely, there are numerous studies showcasing abuse in marital relationships.

According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5), 29.3% of married women, aged 18-49 years, faced domestic violence, and over 77% women did not report the incident and kept mum. As a matter of fact, during the Covid-pandemic induced lockdowns, cases of abuse and violence rose in the domestic households. Anguished wives seeking help from the National Commission of Women doubled during the lockdown. Makes one wonder, whether the live-in relationships are at fault, or the abusers?

The real bane

Whenever a case involving a woman as a victim of a crime (rape, sexual harassment among others) comes into the forefront, suddenly the narrative shifts to the culpability of the victim–– “What was she wearing?” “Was she drunk?” “How drunk was she?” “Why did she stay with the accused?” “Why did she not leave?” “What was she doing out, so late at night?”

The onus shifts to the victim; to wear modest clothes, to not drink at public places, to not stay out late at night. Notice how the conversation is derailed when such (irrelevant) questions are posed; as if it were the victim’s fault; almost as if she deserved to be raped/sexually harassed or even murdered, all because she did not play by the ‘moral rule-book’ of the society.

The phenomenon of victim-blaming in such crimes has been deeply embedded even in our judicial system. Fifty years ago, Mathura, aged 16 years, was denied justice because she was proven to be sexually-active through the (now illegal) two-finger test. The victim-blaming meted out to Mathura, resulted in significant amendments in the Criminal law jurisprudence of our country. Unfortunately, the victim-blaming stayed with us.

Even today women are lambasted for their sexual history, educational achievements and their (bold) lifestyle choices whenever they are at the receiving end of such atrocious crimes. With the Mehrauli murder case in the limelight, Shraddha’s life choices and decisions are also being questioned. The statement of the Union Minister was a classic case of prejudice against the victim–– blaming the victim’s education, her choice to be in a live-in relationship, and her frank behaviour; forgetting that the real bane is blaming the victim for the crime which had cost her life.

On love, and relationships

Abusive relationships cannot be looked at with a black and white lens. These kinds of relationships are often complex, (containing a cycle of abuse, followed by a make-up honeymoon phase) and there are multiple factors due to which the victim stays or hesitates to leave. The 2022 movie Darlings quite pertinently portrayed how an abusive relationship is an intricate assortment of abuse followed by a phase of appeasement, which goes on and on, till the victim acknowledges the abuse and takes a stand. Having said that, most women in an abusive relationship are not able to just stand up and leave. The reasons are manifold; it could be as simple as the fear of the abuser, or as tangled as low self-esteem issues, and gaslighting.

It goes without saying that the need of the hour is to teach young boys and girls that abuse is not love; that the bad-boy protagonists they see in movies are just plain bad; that if your partner hits you, it is not out of love. It is also important to keep the channels of communication open with our children, so that they can seek our help, if and when needed. That is indeed, the only way we can help; not by blaming the victims.

The history of Arunachal Pradesh will be rewritten, BJP government has given the responsibility

The BJP government there will now rewrite the history of Arunachal Pradesh and also include it in the school curriculum. In fact, Arunachal Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein gave a statement in the past, in which he said that now the researchers are rewriting the history of Arunachal state and they will be included in the school curriculum so that the coming generation can learn about the state at the school level.

To know the history Addressing the ‘Tribal Pride Day’ organized to commemorate the 147th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Veer Birsa Munda, the Deputy Chief Minister on Tuesday announced that the coming Statehood Day (February 20) would be dedicated to the unsung heroes so that they could be given due respect .

Names of Unsung Heroes have already been uploaded by the Central Government on a dedicated government portal, while few more names are in the process of uploading. A statue of Bhagwan Veer Birsa Munda was unveiled by Chief Minister Pema Khandu and other dignitaries on the occasion.

Khandu said Arunachal Pradesh also has its share of freedom fighters, but expressed concern that they were lost to history. “They fought for the freedom of the country and most of them died in the freedom struggle. But their stories are unknown and their contribution is not recognised,” he said.

He told the gathering that, “The state government, under a committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister Mein, has documented the stories of 157 unsung heroes and has so far submitted a list of 60 of them to the Center to recognize their contribution to the freedom struggle.” Can go.”

The list also includes Matmur Jamoh, who killed British officer Williamson at Komsing village, while his followers killed Dr Gregerson at Pangi in East Siang district on March 31, 1911. His last days in the Cellular Jail, where he was with others. He said, “Not only the Adis of the central Arunachal belt, the Idu Mishmis, Wanchos, Singphos and Khamtis in the east and the Akas in the west also opposed the British and fought wars with them.”

Battle of Manacaud: A story of resistance

0

One of the most ignored events in the Hindu history of Kerala, is about the lesser known Mughal invasion into Kerala during the 17th century which was successfully defended at Manacaud in South Kerala. The invasion took place southwards into Venad or Travancore and it was led by a Mughal commander who ventured through the Tamil lands.

As a result, treasuries of many temples in Tamil kingdoms were emptied and taken to Travancore with the Utsavamurthis (Murthis of the temple which are brought out in procession for festivals made of metal) of the deities, after hiding the Moolamurthi (main deity inside the shrine made of stone).

At that time, Travancore was in political chaos and since there was no heir, Ashwathi Thirunal Umayamma Rani reigned as the queen of Travancore. She faced a lot of trouble from local landlords who were in control of political matters in Travancore, as well as from related branches of the royalty.

Her Highness Umayamma Rani, finding it difficult to recover parts of her kingdom from the hands of the Mughal sirdar (commander) among all the turmoil invited one prince called Kerala Varma from northern Kottayam Rajah’s family, a branch of the sovereign of Kolathnad, and related to the Travancore royal house by adoptions.

Rajah Kerala Varma was a brave warrior, perfect in sword exercise, arrow-shooting and in the use of other weapons of war. This Rajah was appointed Her Highness’ principal counsellor, and commander of all the militia then on the side of the royalists.

Kerala Varma lost no time in raising a force armed with bows and arrows, slings, swords and lances.
The Rajah, under his personal command led the Nair army against the Mughal sirdar and attacked him unexpectedly at Manacaud near Trivandrum.

As the sirdar had not a sufficient force near him, all his horsemen having been scattered about between Varkala and Thovalay collecting the revenue, he was unable to make a stand and was obliged to retreat precipitately to Thovalay. Kerala Varma pursued him and the sirdar was reinforced by a party of horsemen from Thovalay and the other southern districts.

He made a stand near the side of a hill at Thiruvattar, and a severe battle ensued. While the jungles, and rocks with which the locality was covered, presented insuperable obstacles to the Mughal sirdar’s cavalry and threw it into confusion; they afforded the Rajah’s archers and slingers convenient positions for attack and defence.

While the conflict was going on, many of the horsemen were killed and, unfortunately for the sirdar, a nest of wasps, on one of the trees under which he was fighting on horseback, was disturbed by the throwing of a stone from one of the slings and the insects came down in swarms, and stung him on his face and ears.

On his attempting to dismount his horse, being stung by the wasps, threw its rider and ran away. Scarcely had the sirdar fallen on the side of the rock than hundreds of arrows pierced his body. Nor were the slingers idle, for they poured on the head of the great commander a volley of stones. The fallen Mughal chief was soon killed and his army was utterly defeated.

Kerala Varma arranged at once to capture the remaining horses, and to seize as many of the Mughal troopers as could be got. He succeeded in securing some three hundred horses and about a hundred prisoners with many swords, lances and other excellent weapons belonging to the enemy.

The Rajah marched victoriously to Trivandrum, with Her Highness the Rani also reached with her son and all the palace establishment. They soon rebuilt the palace at Trivandrum. But as centuries passed by and many parts of Travancore were given to Tamil Nadu during State reorganisation, these brave stories of resistance were mostly forgotten in the sands of time.

Why Bharat cannot afford to not have an Anti-conversion bill?

0

Poor and vulnerable people are converted to Christianity based on the pretext of offering education and financial assistance. There are multiple cases of such forceful conversions, right from the North East to Tamilnadu. Once they get converted they continue to hold their caste names without disclosing their new faith to draw dual Government benefits.

This way their official population estimate is lower. These so-called Crypto Christians are a threat to national security of the country. They utilise their funds from Western nations to convert gullible Hindu’s in the name of offering education and healthcare and involve in anti national activities. Lest their so called birth right to proselytize the entire world.

As a Hindu, I think it becomes our Dharma to protect the sovereignty of this Hindu land and protect the collective voices of Hindus. So when they convert, they brainwash their target as the formers religion being superior and cultured, well-bred, god sent, perfect, one which protects the sinner, cures diseases with prayers etc.

So once they are converted they will be influenced by pastors to vote for parties that support a liberal point of view so their conversion business continues. These new converts serve as vote bank politics and more schemes are directed toward them to keep them happy by suppressing the voices of the majority – Hindus.

By not even giving a damn to Hindus, because we have been brainwashed into being liberals, which in itself is a socio political Christian theology. It’s a ticking bomb to the nationalist party, if it doesn’t act now, by the next election the vote share will be split between other UPA. With SDPI-like parties gaining country-wide prominence these days, thanks to their unchecked funding and liberal media powerhouse, the party in power should reward its loyal voter base by bringing the Anti conversion law as soon as possible in all it’s states.

The 1st step, we as citizens of the country, should do is to get out of the colonial mindset. We need to acknowledge that we were being colonized by the Britishers and that we are still being done so in various forms.

This mindset that they imposed on us, that we were inferior to them (White Supremacy) is being carried on, as intergenerational trauma even today. We follow anything and everything that the West does. Including Yoga.. Which many don’t even know originated from Bharat?

It is high time that Hindu’s start being themselves, practicing Hindu Dharma, its culture, flaunting your Hindu identity, and feeling proud of your Dharma which is eternal. Many things in the world were actually invented by great men and sages of this land. But it was the west that took credit as if they invented for the very first time and even commercialized it. We never wanted credit for anything we did. We believed in creating/serving the community wholeheartedly and unselfishly working, on the process without worrying about the end result.

The CBFC board, which is part of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Information, needs to be completely revamped. There are vested interests with an ill-devoted, long-term campaign to instill propaganda. To promote hatred of a certain religion, to turn the very own people of this land against their own Dharma. Cinema affects the consciousness of an individual and this medium becomes the widely used and most effective to discreetly and stealthily spread hatred and divisiveness in a clever well-orchestrated manner.

You cannot escape them. You studied in their schools, colleges, became their friends and lived almost your entire life with them. I remember an instance from when I was around 10–12 years old. Me and my Christiam friend were coming home from school as usual, and I don’t remember what led us to the conversation of religion.

But I still vividly remember him cursing my religion, it’s Gods and ideals. I didn’t know how to defend my religion nor retaliate. I was dumbfounded to hear this coming from a “friend” after all these years. That’s the kind of radicalisation these minority faiths thrust upon their blind followers from such a very young age.

Just imagine the amount of brainwashing they should have done on such young minds that they start developing hatred against people of another faith. But the irony of all times is that, they project themselves as the messaih of love and peace and openly critic our practices and beliefs. But in reality they are not what they claim to be, they are so divisive and spew venom of hatred every time they get a chance to do so. Use every means to convert people using cards of caste system, oppression and the “evil” nature of Hinduism.

Let’s not forget the psychologically impact of being with these people. They think they have the divine right to criticise Hinduism and that they are God sent to pull people from other faiths to them in the name of love and acceptance. In fact let’s not forget the demonic and evil practises that these minority religion of cult inculcate. You cannot criticise their religion that they turn it into a global scene but mock my religion which they think is available to them at arms length.

When you are associated with them you start to slowly learn their wicked tendencies, dark impulses, deceitful nature, wrong ideals in life and begin degrading in your life. Anti conversion bill across the country is the need of the hour.

Nonetheless, we aren’t divisive, but believe in Vasudaiva Kutumbakam and are tolerant enough to live and let live with us the invaders, colonisers and the archaical system. Mera Bharat Shrest Bharat.

EWS reservations and colonial hangover

0

The Honourable Supreme Court of India, on 7-11 – 2022, upheld the 103rd Constitutional Amendment Act which provided for 10% reservation to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS). Four out of five judges ruled in favour of the same stating that reservations for EWS in education and public employment does not violate the Constitution.

However, there is a stereotypical anti-Brahmin trend, visible amongst those expressing their disapproval over this ruling of the Honourable Supreme Court. While anti-Brahminism isn’t a new phenomenon to India, the circumstances and manner in which it has surfaced this time, reflect the modus operandi of the colonizer in the past to break the society of India.

The colonizers’ obstacle during their quest were Brahmins, who they believed, came in their way of creating a baptized India. Thus, several anti-Brahmin movements/activities were carried on to develop a narrative portraying the Brahmins to be cunning, evil-natured oppressors in the society. There are many evidences corroborating the same.  To list a few :

1. Dr.B.R.Ambedkar in his book “Pakistan and The Partition Of India” writes the following:

“The methods adopted by the Muslim invaders of India are not less significant for the subsequent history of India than the object of their invasions.

Mahommad bin Qasim’s first act of religious zeal was forcibly to circumcise the Brahmins of the captured city of Debul; but on discovering that they objected to this sort of conversion,he proceeded to put all above the age of 17 to death, and to order all others, with women and children, to be led into slavery.”

2. St. Xavier wrote to the king of Portugal saying: “If there were no brahmins, all pagans would be converted to our faith.”

The above examples reflect the colonial hangover plaguing the minds of indigenous individuals. Ultimately, this is nothing but an anti-Hindu stance in the garb of anti-Brahminism since Brahmins aren’t the only community to benefit from reservations for the EWS.

Therefore, an introspection into Bharat’s History and necessary, appropriate and authentic rewriting of history textbooks is required. In addition to this, furthering of state investment in decolonial studies and research would be beneficial.

Weak Russia and Putin not good for world peace

The so-called proud democratic western powers, which have been ruthlessly after Russian President Vladimir Putin since his annexation of Ukraine administered Crimean peninsula with Russian Federation in 2014 and later on have invigorated the same approach towards him since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, should introspect what they have gained by ousting dictators without having suitable alternative arrangement, while at the same time, have supported some well-known and well documented tyrants elsewhere for (point to be noted) their own vested interests.

It is a different matter how the history will judge the western powers’ intervention in present Russia-Ukraine conflict. They have also gone to the extent of branding Putin ‘murderous dictator’ and ‘pure thug’, and allegedly working to oust him from power. Their media during early month of war propagated that Putin was severely sick, not meeting visitors in close proximity, etc. etc. All these news are found bullshits now.

Here, I may request to my readers that they should not at all think that I am writing this piece to back dictators and their rules, and in this particular case Putin for what he does to democracy in Russia and what his army is doing in Ukraine amidst conflicting footage of news and facts.

If Putin is a dictator and human right violator and strangulated democratic aspiration of Russians and waged war against tiny neighbor, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky in comparison is no less brutal in his own country going by the reports of London based Amnesty International – 2021, US based Foreign Policy Focus -2021, etc.

As per these reports, since Ukraine has become independent, its security forces have been highly brutal against its own citizens as well as Russian speaking populations in Donbas region contiguous to Russian territory on the northern shore of economically and militarily strategic Black Sea and in Crimean peninsula.

Here, the western powers should not forget that it is as per their alleged instigation, Ukrainian government resisted to renew -as per their post-Soviet Union mutual agreements- the rental occupation by Russia its strategically very significant Soviet Union era The Black Sea Fleet base in Sevastopol in Crimean peninsula. This peninsula was integral part of Russia before 1954 and was made part of Ukraine by the then President of Soviet Union Nikita Khrushchev through a presidential decree for administrative convenience.

And the violation of all the agreements that the western power had with Russia post-Berlin Wall dismantle in 1989 giving enough scope to Kremlin to suspect the ill intention of NATO towards territorial integrity of the world’s largest country in so far as geographical area is concerned. It is needless to remind that America-led western democratic countries’ military alliance NATO was formed to protect Soviet Union-led socialist countries’ military alliance Warsaw Pact’s westward expansion in Europe during Cold War.

After Warsaw Pact and Soviet Union fall, is NATO continuation justified? And, in the worst case scenario, is NATO expansion to the barking distances of Russian Federation justified?

Apart from the above, the most outstanding aspects that the western leadership and strategic thinkers surprisingly have ignored are:

1. The post-chaotic disintegration of Soviet Union, he is Vladmir Putin, who has given stable leadership to the country with 11% of world land mass spread over Europe’s 40% and Asia’s 45% geographical area with highly ethnic diverse population while possessing the world’s highest numbers of dreaded N-bombs and is a commodity super power, for more than two decades.

2. Due to Russia-led security alliance under Putin leadership, the most volatile Central Asia Region (CAR) with six Muslim majority countries, equally rich with huge minerals including sensitive Uranium are relatively peaceful. These countries are contiguous to People’s Republic of China(PRC), which has during last few years openly exhibited its uncompromising revisionist mindset under its present belligerent Paramount Leader Xi Jinping, who has been building a fighting machine to win the war anywhere in the world by its centenary year 2049 but resource hungry.

3. Despite Russia-Putin security watch over CAR, Chinese large infrastructure investments under her flagship Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) are being implemented in the region in war footing. In the given situation, should Russia be cornered strategically and economically facilitating it for its potential and threatening landing on the lap of PRC, rich with more than $3trillion foreign exchange reserve and is led by a dictator who packed his inner power circle with his diehard loyalists and wishes to conquer the world?

4. Despite inheriting Soviet era large and huge conventional and nuclear arsenal and being world’s commodity power house, the longest serving Russian Federation ruler V. Putin has never shown Xi Jinping’s revisionist power mindset. What he has been indulged in so far is limited to retaining the territorial integrity of Soviet Federation as have been done by the rulers of other countries as they are responsible and accountable to their constituencies.

5. And the last but not the least is the Putin’s contribution in suppressing dreaded Islamic extremism in Chechnya. As a visionary, he did not open the door of Russia to millions of Arab migrants, who migrated with hidden agenda to spread radical Wahabi Islamic ideology worldwide with excuse of having been victims of internal displacement due to civil war in mid-2010s like Europe did and now suffering as its own long silenced extremist forces started gaining ground as retribution.

Here, it is required to remind to the western leadership and strategists that dictator Saddam Hussein, a leading member of revolutionary Arab Socialist Ba’ath Party, who ruled as the fifth President of Iraq from 1979 to 2003 had given unprecedented political stability to his country inhabited by Muslim religion’s two major fractions such as Shias and Sunnis and ethnic minority Kurdish who in fact have been at loggerheads among them for country’s political supremacy for generations.

But, he was forced ousted from power by the western powers with never proved allegation of he was building weapon of mass destruction(WMD) and having ties with dreaded Islamic terror outfit al-Quada. As a result, a vacuum was created which facilitated extremist Islamic movement called Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), so far the most deadly, and in lightening speed spread to entire northern territory of Iraq and the entire Syria but Damascus.

Though over several years of fights by Iraqi and Syrian forces, the movement is to a great extent has been suppressed in Arab region, it has not yet completely removed. In the meanwhile, it has been spread over to several parts of the world and wherever this virus resurfaces, it causes huge loss to human lives and property.

There was attempt to oust Syria’s dictator Bashar al-Assad during Arad Spring in early 2010s like the same was there in Libya which ousted dictator Col. M. Gaddaffi. It is in fact true that the western social media facilitated Arab Spring had been successful in removing several monstrous dictators in Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

But, the fire that was ignited in Libya decade back is yet to be doused. And if Syria’s Assad was ousted, thank to Russia-Iran combined support that saved Assad, alleged Turkey backed ISIS could not have allowed whatever peace is there in Syria-Iraq now converting the region another factory of terror manufacturing as seen in Afghan-Pakistan. In latter case, the history has noted America’s dirty involvement.

In view of the above points raised in this deliberation, it is strongly advocated to see the reasons in Putin strategic wisdom. Agree that he has strangulated democracy, is a dictator, and so his works may not be justified. Is the western poster boy Zelensky any less? But, any attempt to weaken Putin and his ruled country may lead to either dangerous expansion of PRC or Islamic extremism into sensitive CAR with porous borders.

Do the western leaders have any solution for the above listed eventualities? I don’t think so. If they had, they would not have allowed Afghanistan’s hand over to Taliban on the vicinity of CAR. Note: now Islamic extremist group Taliban is fighting with dreaded ISIS for survival. Who knows ISIS won’t be tomorrow’s Afghanistan ruler? In such eventuality, imagine what could be the situation in the rest of the world; forget about hapless and poor South and Central Asia?

Religious conversion and cultural appropriation

0

The conversion of Hindus to non-Indic monotheistic faiths is of grave concern to the Hindus. While the threat from the aggressively proselytizing faiths has been steadily rising; conversely, the dismissal of such a threat by the mainstream media and left liberals and government is also obvious. The fact is that wherever Hindus have been a minority in South Asia, they have been exterminated.

The alert among us recognizes the conversion efforts of Christian organizations for what they are—a war against the Hindus of India. One may genuinely have a change of heart and embrace another religion. However, the wholesale marketing and coercing of people of other faiths through financial bribes as well as psychological bullying and brainwashing to convert, can all be considered as severe aggression bordering on ethnic violence.

Hindus, who are ignorant of the stated objective of the Catholic Church and other denominations of Christianity, think that the objective of bringing all people to Jesus is just a harmless idea and that it will not impact them. They are ignorant of what several Popes have repeatedly stated—that humanitarian work is for the purpose of conversion only and does not exist separately from this objective.

Hindus fail to realize that this ideology, this theological imperative, which motivates all missionary activity, is firmly targeting all Indian religions, especially Hinduism because Hinduism represents the last of the old world pagan religions and there are still a significant number of practicing Hindus left.

The Proselytising imperative

Proselytizing is the practice of converting people to a new faith, changing the people’s religious beliefs, and completely delinking them from their religious past. It involves individuals and communities who are converted to separate themselves from their historical, religious, and cultural identities and loyalties and re-identify themselves to a new faith, god, practice, and value systems.

It seeks to separate the converted individual or community from their historic lineage and wipe out their previous religious identity including the destruction of religious places and religious iconography.   While the convert’s body is allowed to live, his previous religious identity is destroyed. Man is not just his physical body, but the sum total of his thoughts, ideas, and cultural and religious practices. Conversion is an attempt to eradicate the native identities of individuals and communities and is a dangerous disruptive force both within communities and within nations.

Conversion as a form of ethnic cleansing

Ethnic cleansing is broadly defined as removing a population from where they have inhabited for long periods of time, usually through the use of force and violence.

The UN charter on the rights of indigenous people affirms that

“… all peoples contribute to the diversity and richness of civilizations and cultures, which constitute the common heritage of humankind,  and… further that all doctrines, policies, and practices based on or advocating superiority of peoples or individuals on the basis of national origin or racial, religious, ethnic or cultural differences are racist, scientifically false, legally invalid, morally condemnable and socially unjust”.

Hindus and people of other Indic faiths are indigenous to India. They have continuously inhabited this land for the last five thousand years at the very least. Their religious practices and belief systems have for the most part existed in harmony with each other. The uniqueness of their religious heritage and the richness of their cultural practice are evident in Hindu philosophies and material and non-material culture.

All conversion efforts by missionaries originate from the false premise that native religions are inferior and that native populations need to be rescued by converting them to the “true” religion. Hindus have been targeted for conversion for a long time. However, it is at present we are witnessing increased aggression against Hindu beliefs, institutions, acharyas, and cultural practices. Hindus need to realize that removing Hindus from India, whether by force or by conversion, constitutes ethnic cleansing and they are the target.

Institutionalized bias against Hinduism

The freedom of religion clause in the Indian constitution allows for everyone to practice and profess and propagate his faith. This seems to be a fair law on the surface. Yet in practice, it privileges monotheistic faiths which have a tradition of proselytizing. The rights of Hindus to practice their religion, free from state interference and free from the interference of other religious groups are continuously being trampled on. The religious rights of Hindus to protect themselves and their cultural practices, from those who seek to destroy Hinduism by converting Hindus, have not been properly protected within any legal framework.

Indic religions are not aggressively evangelical, because their core beliefs are based on the concept of ethical behavior as opposed to monotheistic religions, which emphasize belief in the right god. Hence, the need to convert or change other people’s belief systems was not paramount to Hindus. This allows for evangelizing religions to have the upper hand and greater constitutional power when it comes to targeting Hindus and people of Indic faiths for conversion –all this can be done under the guise of religious freedom.

The very act of seeking to convert another individual is an act of violence. It seeks to destroy the person’s faith in his own heritage. Unlike what left-liberals will have us believe, conversions in India don’t take place in innocuous settings where people of their own volition discover the beauty of another religion and seek out that experience by themselves. Conversions in India are wholly orchestrated by a network of Churches and missionaries with extensive foreign funding and vast local outreach.

Inculturation and Cultural appropriation as a tool of conversion

Inculturation is a theological term used by the Church to refer to the process of making conversion acceptable to the group targeted for conversion by mimicking the cultural and religious practices of the target group. Inculturation is a tool that is used by various missionary organizations to create the illusion of sameness, which helps in reducing resistance to conversion. Part of the inculturation process involves mining the native cultures for practices and appropriating these in order to convert the native Hindus. This is called cultural appropriation.

One of the most unethical activities of the conversion agenda is the systematic dismantling of indigenous knowledge systems and the selective appropriation of parts of them to propagate the foreign faith.

The Hindu civilization has a rich tradition of religious practices which encompasses all aspects of life, including yoga, Ayurveda, classical music, dance, and all classical arts. The concept of art without religion was for the most part absent in Hindu practices, where the art form itself was a medium of worship. Hindu ideas and philosophies permeate its music and dance and visual arts.

The appropriation of Hindu heritage starts with the Hindu scriptures themselves. It was reported in the Times of India (August 6, 2008) that the Indian Bible would have verses from the Upanishads, Vedas and Bhagavad Gita. The impunity with which non-Hindus appropriate ownership of Hindu texts aside, this process of incorporating the sacred literature of pagan cultures into the Bible while at the same time denigrating the beliefs of the pagans is appalling.

Those involved in the business of conversion recognize the importance of classical music, dance, and arts as well as other cultural practices such as mantra chanting and bhajans, to maintain the continuity of Hindu religious heritage.

So it is not surprising that these have come under attack repeatedly, where the conversion promoters along with a small group of artists, have tried to secularize all Hindu practices, whether it is mantra chanting or Classical music and dance.

This is most obvious in Tamil Nadu, where every single Hindu practice is copied while removing all traces of the original gods. Here we have the traditional chants such as the Aigiri Nandini sloka and the Kanda Sashti Kavacha slokas now rendered for Jesus. The Kalai Kaveri College of Fine arts is engaged in Christianizing Bharata Natyam.

Carnatic Music is also the target where the lyrics of great composers are reworked to sing praises of Jesus. The goal of evangelizing Carnatic music is one such example of cultural and intellectual property theft indulged in by various Christian organizations and supported by some of the senior Carnatic Vocalists who are engaged in the mission to secularize Hindu arts.

The secular argument is that art is universal and that it is the content of the art which is religious and not the forms, i.e. the lyrics are religious and not the ragas, which are secular. Likewise, mantra chanting methods are secular; only the words are Hindu, and these can be replaced with mantras to a new god.

This is a fundamentally flawed argument that seeks to divorce form from content and appropriate the forms of Hindu culture for non-Hindu purposes. From the Hindu perspective, both form and content are religious. The mantras are sacred sounds and the meter they are composed and chanted in are also sacred. Likewise, ragas are considered the embodiment of Nada Brahman, the transcendental sound. Both ragas and lyrics of the composers are the collective cultural and intellectual property of the Hindus.

Using any classical raga to sing on gods, not within the Hindu tradition, especially to gods of inimical religions is correctly viewed by Hindus as an insult to their religious heritage and a theft of their collective wealth. Just as an 11th-century temple statue stolen causes anguish, so too does the theft of ragas and songs.

The second argument is that since there have been older composers like Abraham Pandita  who used Carnatic Music for Christian songs, it should be acceptable for current composers to do the same.  This is a specious argument.  It is akin to saying that since there was theft in the past which Hindus didn’t protest, therefore Hindus relinquish the right to do so now.

The worst part of such cultural appropriation is that it reveals that both the proselytizer and the “secular” people who support these activities have no respect for pluralism and even less respect for the sentiments or the ownership rights of Hindus over their cultural and religious heritage.

Any Hindu protest of such cultural appropriation is vilely and dishonestly dismissed as bigotry and narrow-mindedness. The fundamental rights of Hindus to own their religious heritage and decide whether they want to share this heritage with others are being violated by this appropriation.

All activities which seek to remove Hindus and Hinduism from the land of their origin should evoke alarm both in intellectuals and the government. Depopulating India of its Hindus through religious conversion is an ethnic cleansing that is happening in front of our eyes.

The fundamental truth is that a conversion agenda is completely incompatible with a secular plural state for the simple reason that the act of proselytizing is the complete repudiation of pluralism which requires mutual respect for all religions and respect for diversity. Hinduism, with its multiple paths and gods, is plural in nature.

Monotheistic religions do not respect or acknowledge the plurality of paths or gods. Since the very basis of monotheistic faiths is the rejection of multiple gods and beliefs, they pose an inherent danger to Hindu society and Hindus, who, if they want to survive, need to acknowledge this and take legal steps to protect themselves.

Policy on birth rate – to boost or to dwindle

0

The new paper heading “China will establish a policy to boost birth rate, says Xi” in Times of India dated 17 Oct 2022, stirred the embryo form in the workshop of my brain, it fires and rewires, which took the ramified form from the revelations documented in the editorial column on the page titled ‘ALL THAT MATTERS’ – on the top right entitled ‘SWAMIONICS’ with a sub-heading “Ignore doomsters. Let’s celebrate the 8-billion milestone”.

Indeed, no prefix or suffix is in need to highlight the author ‘Swaminathan S Anklesaria Aiyar’, economist, journalist, and columnist of international renown. In my opinion, a bold critic with unflinching jots, convincing and exaggerating recommendations binding the facts inclusively and artistically. He is the one among the intellectuals who brought forth and still engaged in construing to bring forward the upgraded versions into public forums, the ones, that might have been in the hands of the well-built, the social beings, the conventional human emotion masters.

Swaminathan concurs, validates, and authenticates Marian Tupy and Gale Pooley’s book ‘Superabundance’: he is so convinced on a par with the authors of ‘Superabundance’ which beams on the contrarian intellection – an increase in population will induce the increase in resources, in abundance- and elucidates it with substantial evidence decisively. Yes, it discordantly disagrees with the futurisms promulgated through ‘An Essay on the Principle of Population’ in 1798, furnished by Thomas Malthus, a British economist who predicted that positive checks on population growth and the startling, alarming literary work of Prof.

Paul R Ehrlich – ‘The Population Bomb’ foreboding overpopulation problem in 1960  and continued to advocate for population control and co-authored the book ‘The Population Explosion’ released in 1990 with his wife Anne  Ehrlich. Many population control activists and supporters of Europe and the United States accepted the views of Ehrlich in the 1960s and 1970s.

Enthusiasm triggered by curiosity; I started browsing the excerpts of the book ‘Superabundance’ by googling; hesitation clouded me from the wordings in Swamionics describing the book as an expert tome and felt out of reach for me; the a,b,c,d,.. and the vowels of the economy and economic affairs and publications are beyond to my hand. The common concept brings out the statement highlighting that the increasing growth of the population with greater freedom triggers more ideas and wonderful innovations. In a simple sentence, more people mean more ideas and more innovation, so population growth is good.

More heads, more ideas – which generates faster and greater economic growth resulting in an abundance of resources. Reviews outpour adorned with fabulous comments and commendations. Lauded appraisal over the depiction of human ingenuity, humanism, and a prosperous world for all. Many wordsmiths also applauded the pessimistic perpetual discourse. A ’Tit for Tat’ for the doomsayers who ignites chaos in society and set fire to worrywarts challenging the dignity and prosperity of humankind.

Now set aside the book “Superabundance’ and revert to years passed across- a flashback. Many countries implemented the practice of mandatory control on the growth rate of human population from the 1950s to 1980s concerned about overpopulation and its effects on poverty, the environment, and political stability. The Chinese government introduced the one-child policy in 1978 discouraging having more than one child. The policy turned controversial in the after days, raising issues confronting negative economic and social consequences. To a mark, Iran succeeded in promulgating population control measures.

In India, the slogan ‘We two, ours two’, (‘Hum do, humare do’ in Hindi) was framed, destined to strengthen and propagate the message of population control. More recently, most countries have set forth the shots to augment birth rates specifically as a retaliation to the dooming demographic charts. The Chinese President, Xi Jinping said, “We will establish a policy system to boost birth rates and pursue a proactive national strategy in response to population aging.” In his speech opening the once-in-five years Communist Party Congress in Beijing.

Chinese policymakers are dubious and anxious that a steep fall in the country’s population could adversely affect the national economy. Maybe, the book. ‘Superabundance’ could pacify their worries to some extent.  “Let us celebrate the arrival of eight billion human beings. Let us celebrate India becoming the most populous nation.”, this was the deliberate conclusive sentence of Swaminathan’s column, ‘Ignore doomsters, Let’s celebrate the 8-billion milestone.

The subject is a matter of concern to somebody, anybody, or nobody, but as a layman, I am in a catch-22 situation, whether to stand with the policy encouraging the increase in birth rate or back the policy of population control. Worth pondering, isn’t it?

Progress of AP is possible only with BJP

It has potential to become top tourist spot in country with varied scenic natural terrains like sea, beach, hills, valleys, exotic fauna and flora. Area lacks Infrastructure, roads and basic amenities. People have to still carry pregnant ladies and sick people on cots for medical facilities. Development in AP is mainly due to Modi government

The state of Andhra Pradesh has longest sea coast and diverse natural resources. State has faced various hurdles after the bifurcation. State is now in a severe debt-ridden situation. Raising debts for clearing loans and welfare schemes is happening in AP.

Since 2014 Modi government has concentrated on the overall development and welfare of state. It is an undeniable fact that what so ever development happened in AP is mainly due to BJP There is a delay of execution by state in some projects. State government failed to release it’s share of funds in some schemes. Still Modi government has taken forward several developmental activities to make state self-reliant. Central government also contributed significantly for welfare of people of AP. Development will enhance the income of state which can be used for welfare of people. This visit of PM reiterates the fact that BJP is committed for overall progress and welfare of AP. Development of AP is possible only with BJP.
