One India or diverse India has defeated the poor during lock down

0

Modiji has proposed one election, one ration card, one tax, one law etc., to make India that remains truly as one country in letter and spirit where regional differences shall only add beauty and vibrancy and not difference and discrimination.

But the Corona lockdown has exposed the anatomy of such wish or desire or political proposal of BJP. BJP is largely seen as North Indian party because the presence of BJP in southern states and east barring North East is insignificant. But the lock down has affected the north Indian migrants the worst. The unplanned and thoughtless lock down without even the elementary preparation has not only killed the livelihood of millions of Indians but also sickened our economy and MSME. It may take ages to repair the direct and indirect or unintended consequences of 21 day lock down.

Most of the states that are governed by the regional parties like AIADMK in Tamil Nadu, CPI (M) in Kerala, BJD in Odissa, TMC in West Bengal, AAP in Delhi has done yeomen work at the ground and protected the state. But the central government failed to act in time so was the BJP governments in some states. All those migrant workers are also Indians. If that ethos has gone deep in central government’s thinking before declaring the draconian measure called lock down India for 21 days without any preparation; the central government would have prepared the ground first, sufficient time would have given to poor people and then the measure would have been taken.

The lock down declared by Modi’s government has proved that the ethos of one India is nothing but a myth and the people of India can be saved only the respective state government; especially by the regional parties and not by BJP.

If Modi has called all party meeting, had discussion with all state Chief Ministers, Health Ministers, district magistrates and NGO’s, private companies and got their inputs and suggestions, earned their good will and co-operation and then gone for lock down, the measure would have served the purpose as well as the livelihood of millions and millions of poor people also would have been saved.

To the private companies especially the MSME, central government and state government could have told to avail the required interest free bank loans with 6 month moratorium to meet the planned expenditure; the salary component of many middle income groups also could have been achieved.

People of India, rich or poor, urban or rural, educated or uneducated, all would have followed the social distancing in letter and spirit, and we the people of ONE INDIA could have made the measure a grand success. But today people defy not because they care the least about Corona but they too care a little about their life; hunger and to feed the young ones in their tent.

One thing the lock down has proved beyond doubt is that only the regional parties alone can save India because the regional parties always give utmost importance to their region.

Although at cultural level we must promote one India ethos but at political level, we should never experiment the same ethos because such politics shall bound to cause discrimination and differentiation as we saw in the case of poor migrant workers after lock down.

It is not about proving the ego and self-importance due to the majority enjoyed by the central government, the central government should have discussed with all the state Chief Ministers about the economic and other loses due to such measure before such drastic measure is implemented.

Mere medical advice alone was not enough before taking such measure but the central government must have discussed and consulted everyone in the ring to ensure the measure is truly people centric.

The disastrous consequences of corona lock down may take several years to repair and only after minimum repair, we can find our old India. It is one India and not many states in one India have defeated the poor and middle income.

Corona: A pandemic or a well-planned strategy?

The year 2018 and 2019 saw the confrontation of US and China in terms of trade. US kept increasing tariffs on Chinese imports and in retaliation China also did the same. However, China being an export oriented economy, was heavily impacted. The GDP Growth rate of People’s Republic of China started to show the slump with no major effect on US. The growth rate of China went down from 7% to 6% in 10 quarters whereas the growth of US only went down from 2.2% to 2.1% in the same duration. Further when we compare the export of Chinese goods to US, we can see a slum from $ 539.6 Billion in the year 2018 to $ 452.2 Billion (Source). In terms of GDP the drop was equivalent to approx. 1% of China’s GDP. These indications were major and China could not have neglected them as there was no equivalent increase in other markets either. For instance, there was a meager increase in export to EU as EU itself was under stress due to ongoing Brexit. Further with OBOR as a distant dream and CPEC under back foot due to mismanagement of funds by Pakistan, China had to do something on its economic front.

Coronavirus (COVID19) the now turned pandemic has its roots in the Wuhan district of China. Its first official confirmation was done on 31 Dec 2019 as a case of pneumonia. In China it was Dr Li Wenliang of Wuhan District Hospital who reported it for the first time and had termed it as a deadly virus and can be transmitted from human to human. But the Chinese authorities dismissed his comments and accused him of making false statements. Later on 30th Jan the doctor himself was diagnosed with Covid19. An outrage broke out following his death on Chinese social platform Weibo which was later censored by the communist government. Following the developments, many countries put travel restrictions on China during first week of Feb 2020 which China protested. Also China accused US of causing panic and spreading fear.

On 11 March 2020, after it contracted more than 1,18,000 across 115 countries and 4000 deaths, WHO declared it a pandemic. Global infection across the world has now crossed 7 Lacs with more than 33000 deaths across 160 countries. In China alone there are more than 81,000 cases. However, one point that is to be noted is the demography wise breakup of the spread. In China, most of the spread is within the Hubei province, which is almost 84% of total cases. Further when one adds up the number of cases in business hubs of China, i.e. Beijing, Shenzhen & Shanghai, they only account for 2.6% of the total cases. In US, the number of cases are much higher and have crossed 1,30,000 now. New York alone accounts for 45% of the cases. Further the top business hubs of Unites States viz. Washington, California, New Jersey & New York account for 63% of the total cases. In Indian too the cases have gone above 1000 with Delhi, Maharashtra and Gujarat alone accounting for 29% of the total cases. In Europe too most of the cases are from Italy, Germany, France & UK. One can conclude that Covid crisis has affected most of the business hubs across the world except for China.

Further, The Global stock markets are under stress. On an average all the global markets have gone down by 25% in last three months. NASDAQ has gone from its level of 9400 in 21 Jan 2020 when its first case was discovered to 7500 on 27 March 2020, a drop of approx. 20% in just 2 months. Even the Australian Market index, S&P/ASX 200, has gone down from 7,090 on 24 Jan 2020 when its first case was detected to 4,842 on 27 March 2020, taking a beating of 32% approx. German market Index DAX has gone down from the levels of 13,577 on 26 Jan 2020 when its first covid case was identifies to 9,632 on 27 march 2020, taking a beating by 29%. Even Indian SENSEX has gone down from the levels of 41,199 on 29 Jan 2020 when its first case was identified to current level of 29,815 on 27 March 2020, a drop of 27.6%. However, Shanghai Stock Exchange Index, SSE, has gone down from 2,962 on 23 Dec 2019 levels to 2,772 on 27 March 2020 which is 9.6% only. All the markets except China have seen their biggest one-day crash during the period. This definitely raises some eyebrows. Due to drop in prices many of the big global firms now face a risk of Chinese takeover as well. (Source)

When one analyses the new cases and recovery ratios in various countries, it further sends a signal of something being fishy. Even after one month of the pandemic being declared, recovery ratio for most of the nations where infection started in the month of Jan 2020 itself also is below 20%. Italy, Spain, Germany and France where cases began surfacing in the last week of Jan 2020 also record a recovery of below 20%. Japan, where the Covid cases started in second week of Jan 2020 also reports a recovery of 24% only. However, in China where Initial cases were officially reported on 31 Dec 2019, the recovery as on date stands at whopping 93%.

Further when timeline is seen, number of cases in US has gone up by 1,00,000 in last one month. In Iran cases have gone up by 35,000, In UK by 17,000, In France by approx. 25000, In Italy by around 90,000, Spain by around 71,000 and Germany by around 56,000 in last one month. However, the numbers have gone up by only 1200 in China in last one month. Further the death rate in China is is 4% whereas the death rates in European countries where cases recorded were substantially high have death rate of average 8% with Italy recording as high as 11% as on date. This pandemic has gripped well above 300 persons per million populations across Europe & US with as high as 1500 per million in Italy and Spain but in China it has only gripped 57 persons per million. (Source)

Currently when the whole world is under lock down, with all manufacturing sector in an almost stand still situation, China has resumed its manufacturing and has also committed to make up for the PPE & medical equipment requirement across the globe, such is the opportunism. China has even started to dictate some terms. China has even offered to help US, which obviously won’t come for free. Even World Health Organization has started to talk in lines of China. WHO even appreciated the transparency of China, which was quite strange as China wasn’t even accepting a human-to-human transfer two months back.

When the world was putting a travel ban on China to their own country, China protested as it was affecting trade. And now as the cases have gone out of hands across the globe, China has put a travel ban of any foreign national into China. With manufacturing sector set to be fully functional within just a month and with whole world expected to go under recession, bigger than 2008, the question still remains- was this a disease gone out of hand or a well-planned strategy for global domination by pushing leading economies to back foot.

Corona- A pandemic or a blessing?

0

The world has just come to a standstill. Major economies of the world are going to enter recession in the coming months. World is under LOCKDOWN. A virus which originated in China has so far spread its tentacles across 190 and odd countries effecting 7 million and counting and over 30000 deaths and counting. As deadly a pandemic as this world has ever witnessed. Major economies of the world are working on partial shut down thinking about a complete shut down as numbers keep rising.

Amidst all the chaos that has been unleashed on the world by China, it has already started back up and is quickly trying to exploit the market for its benefit. It has already bought off shares of some Australian companies established in their country. It has started manufacturing and export of masks and other medical kits across the world for the chaos it unleashed. But one glaring and incomprehensible error in this entire endeavour is the fact that while 190+ countries have been effected by the pandemic none of the business centers in and around Wuhan, the epicenter of the virus have been effected. Beijing is just one major cities that immediately comes to mind. The fact that industries are up and running in all the major hubs of China speaks volumes about the way world order has been damaged to gain advantage. Lockdown of Wuhan happened after 5 million of the total 11 million population already left Wuhan. Conspiracies abound and the evidence keeps piling up.

In this unforeseen chaos the World has United. Humanity is coming forth to crush the barriers that have held us back all these years from truly showing our humanity. Celebrities, sport stars and various other businessmen and entrepreneurs have come forward with huge donations towards fighting this pandemic. People have stopped thinking about themselves and are more worried about others. There has been an unprecedented exchange of ideas. Furthermore, this lockdown has ensured that people connect with each other even if it is through social media as social distancing is a pre-requisite for this lockdown to succeed.

In the daily humdrum of our existence, we are all so entangled in it that we loose ourselves. Human to human interaction ceased in this dog eat dog environment. We are so busy with our problems, aspirations and just basic survival that we hardly interact with each other. This helps those, who want societies to be polarised for their own nefarious designs. And we all help them unwittingly by staying disconnected with the rest of the world. I want to make one thing clear though, it’s not a critique of anyone’s life. I understand that is life and hence, I have no complaints. All I am describing here is the daily life of most of the people in this world, who are all absorbed in the concept of me and my family.

What the Chinese have done though is give a reason for people to Unite. If it was Hitler then, it’s China now. We are currently on a 21 day lockdown. These 21 days decide, whether we come out relatively unscathed or are pushed back by 21 years. They say that if a habit needs to be formed or broken, you have to continuously do it for 21 days to make it a part of your daily life. These 21 days, it is for us to decide, whether we form a good or bad habit. These 21 days, it is for us to decide, whether we stay United or Divided. And finally, these 21 days, it is for us to decide, whether we teach our kids the value of Unity or the effects of greed. Because it all started due to one Nation’s insatiable thirst for Global dominance, it is for us to decide, would we want to succumb to that or hold our head high and say we stand United.

To succeed or fail today is not in the hands of one person but the entire nation. We have all heard stories about how we united as a country to gain our independence. But even our independence struggle left deep divisive scars that haven’t healed yet. This fight is even bigger than that. It is a fight against an unseen force and it will take a United stand against this unseen force released by a known enemy. If we are to succeed in this fight, there is no other option but for the entire country to Unite irrespective of their caste, religion or gender. We are all as weak as our next irresponsible neighbour/literate stupids/illiterate person. So to win this fight and compete against the known enemy, there is no other way but to Unite as a nation.

And to an extent we have all done that. We have taken a United stand in the fight against it, except for some stupidity here and there, most of us stayed home. This is the time to look at the bright side of it. Let’s reconnect with our family, our children, our friends and everyone around us. Let’s make it a habit in this 21 days to stand United. As I said once if we can make our Unity a habit, then there is no force in this world, known or unknown, that can stop our growth. Let’s make it a habit to be positive and stay connected. Let’s make it a habit to Stand United and this pandemic will truly be a blessing for us. The way to defeat an enemy is by making his weapon your strength. Let’s show the World on how to fight an enemy without firing a weapon in retaliation.

Let’s stay home and stand united while our brilliant doctors, nurses, healthcare and essential service providers are out on the frontline braving their lives for us. And in the process let’s all reconnect with each other and stay United as the fight hasn’t been won yet and there is still a War ahead. Let’s all lead the way in showing the world, Unity in Diversity is truly our National motto. Jai Hind.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) update: Do browse official sources as your information avenues

Coronavirus Pandemic has debilitated much of the world, and lockdown is becoming a norm to ensure physical distancing and contain the spread of contagious virus. Many of us might have witnessed curfew during the time of crisis, including the wars in 60’s and 70’s. But the lockdown in current situation is different, and the society seems to be finding it difficult to internalize the significance of home stay. Our social media accounts – WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram – are flooded with variety of information related to Coronavirus. And we actually don’t know what to believe and what not. We also don’t know which information is coming from official government, or least trustworthy, sources and which is simply a propaganda to spread misinformation or speculations.

As we are more tuned to the social media, browsing floods of information and sharing as per our personal preferences; it is equally important that we rely on certain official sources to keep abreast of latest happening related to the Coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2. It is also important to stick to these sources amid constantly changing narratives on various media and social media platforms. Even the guidelines are not well understood by people, and we observe police patrolling vehicles in our city of Vadodara, announcing the use of mask even by general public. We are sure, the way we see news clippings from across the country, masks seem to be worn by masses. On the contrary, the use of mask is required only for symptomatic/COVID-19 patients, their care givers, those who are quarantined and frontline health workers.

This article looks forward to provide an excerpt of online survey which we floated on the evening of Friday, March 20, 2020 and also to list down some government and trusted resources to keep abreast of Coronavirus and COVID-19 related updates.

Excerpt of an Online Survey:

We created a Google Form for an online survey to understand whether people are accessing Corona Virus related resources from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India website. Total 226 people have responded to this survey so far. About 61.50% respondents were from Gujarat, and 57.96% had post-graduate or higher qualification, as shown in Fig. 1 and Fig. 2, respectively.

Fig. 1: State of Respondent
Fig. 2: Education Level of Respondent

Initially, for 138 responses, >90% respondents self-reported that they have been accessing various resources from MoHFW website. We were astonished to see such an overwhelming response and interpreted it to be speculative in the sense, people might be coming across various resources but not necessarily from the MoHFW website. This interpretation was based on our own observations and following of social media accounts, where we did not come across official government resources to large extent.

Hence, we added a direct question asking, Since March 15, 2020, have you ever browsed / visited https://www.mohfw.gov.in/website? Out of 88 responses, 35 (40%) reported to have visited MoHFW website. Out of 226 responses, when asked about whether you have read COVID-19 related awareness material on MoHFW website, 159 (70.35%), 205 (90.71%), 159 (70.35%) and 118 (52.21%) reported that they have read Do’s and Don’t Poster, When to wear mask?, When to get tested for COVID-19?, and Posters for Indians traveling from abroad, respectively.

Hence, we thought that it might be really helpful to compile and suggest a list of official communication channels from the government, international agencies and reputed academic and non-profit organizations – to ensure that people have access to rightful information which will help them remain better informed and safeguard from unnecessary panic.

List of Government and International Resources: Official websites of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India and that of respective state health departments, for Instance Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of Gujarat. The MoHFW website is uploading various advisories and directives for citizens, hospitals, employees, ministries and states and also related to travel. The website also has awareness material for safety measures and also a comic book, KIDS, VAAYU & CORONA,  to provide correct information about COVID-19 to children. The YouTube channel of MoHFW is also uploading relevant information from time to time, and their COVID-19 Management playlist has about 38 videos. Unfortunately, in a country of 1.3 billion, this playlist has <70,000 views.  The latest video is on how to manage mental health and well-being during the #COVID19 outbreak.

Fig. 3: Screenshot of Awareness Material Section on MoHFW, GoI Website

Also the MyGov portal hosts a dedicated segment for COVID19, which lists helpline numbers, email, myth busters, activities, videos, infographics as well as information and advisory as is available on MoHFW website. The portal also invites ideas and suggestions to help fight #CoronaVirus and the COVID-19 solution challenge, with a deadline of March 31, 2020 and a chance to win up to Rs. One Lakh in rewards. In addition, +91-90131-51515 is the official WhatsApp business account of MyGov Corona Helpdesk, being powered by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and MoHFW through Haptik. One can simply send ‘Hi’ or any text, and will receive information on how to receive specific information by choosing specific options. Various state governments have also rolled out WhatsApp accounts for ensuring wider penetration of factual information among the masses. MyGov Corona Newsdesk, is Government of India’s official Telegram channel for communications regarding COVID-19. This channel has about 7.5 lakh subscribers, by the time we are writing this article.

Among international resources, one can certainly browse through the content available on the World Health Organization website, having dedicated link for Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) Pandemic. The portal provides quick dashboard, myth busters and easy to comprehend videos to understand the virus, its transmission and the pandemic. The WHO is also offering free course for Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), in multiple international languages. WHO also offers official WhatsApp business account, through a phone number +41-798-931-892, which provides the latest information and guidance from WHO on the current outbreak of COVID-19. Those who want to look at the COVID-19 related data and statistics, can also visit Corona Virus Resource Center, by the Johns Hopkins University, USA, which enlists meaningful resources to guide a response, improve care, and save lives. Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) – Statistics and Research by Our World in Data compiles data from the European Centre for Disease Control, and offers an important resource to understand the disease, its spread and the severity.

We hope the list of resources will be helpful to stay tuned with latest happenings concerning the COVID-19 outbreak. Finally, we do take this opportunity to inform that we all can join the war against COVID-19 by being volunteers and making donations.

Time to implement e-Governance in district and Panchayat administration

0

The nation with second highest population, but highest youth population in this world has been put under lockdown for twenty-one days to prevent the onslaught of Corona virus. Due to this shut-down, only essential services are in operation and remaining economic activities are in shutdown mode. But for a country like India with so much of geographic and cultural diversity, running and managing essential services are also a daunting challenge. On top of that, maintaining such services for a huge population adds further complexities on its management.

For example, it is quite challenging to maintain continuous supply of milk in various parts of India on a daily basis when the movement of vehicles have been restricted. The supply chain management for milk starts from farm in the form of cattle feed procurement and end at the distribution of milk to household. In between, the production, collection, procurement, pasteurization, packaging, and then transportation from milk processing plants have to maintained. All these are very challenging when each individual is scared to step outside in order to prevent the spread of Corona infection.

So the question is how India is managing this lockdown at such a large scale. The answer is the efficiency by which government machineries are collecting the data about requirements at the ground level, processing these data to formulate a plan at the centralized level, and then executing the plan in order to respond to ground situation. All this is possible because of digital infrastructure that has been one of the prime objectives of Prime Minister Modi since 2014.

In one of the reports “Wireless Data Services In India” in 2019, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) stated that the total number of wireless data subscriber reached to 578.20 million at the end of year 2018 and it was an increase of 36.36% from 2017 subscriber base. Rural areas are now well connected to high speed internet (4G) which helps in accessing the online content at the hit of the button in smartphones. That is the primary reason why PM Modi’s message reaches to every citizen directly and instantly.

Although the lockdown has been a response to the threat of highly infectious virus which can damage the Indian economy and its agents i.e. Indian citizens permanently, this lockdown also provides an opportunity to ponder over the economic and technological progress that we have completed and how India want to proceed in future so that Indians are much more prepared in future to act uninterrupted and undisrupted. This is a learning time for behavioral economist, who can later prescribe the steps for efficient management of economy.

The running of essential economic activities is one of the examples to imitate for non-essential services if it has to minimize its losses. The lockdown is only restricting the physical movement. Therefore, all the services which have adopted or co-opted for the online platform are having minimal loss in operation. For example, the IT and ITES service industry provided Work From Home (WFH) option even at the normal time and therefore, this industry has minimal disruption. E-commerce and Delivery firms are other such example. Overall, digitization of the economy helps in over-riding the economic disruptions. Increased transparency and efficiency in managing the available resources are added advantage to it.

What government has to ponder during this lockdown period: Central and State governments asked employees to work from home as the cry of social distancing reached top administration. The only way government machinery could minimize its movement is to go digital. Even though the e-governance has been war cry of PM Modi, the level of digitization in government administration has been slow. Use of video-conferencing to meet at higher frequency and reduce the travel cost were hardly visible.

Movement of files are still taking times at various tables, specially for inter-ministerial projects. Digital decision making such as approvals over emails are still a distant dream. Performance of state governments have huge variance. Technologically and financially poor states are not even willing to move into this direction willingly. The real problem starts when we move to district and panchayat administration.

This lockdown has given opportunity to India to initiate the e-governance model in district and panchayat administration. The benefits of digitization of district and panchayat is immense. Rural districts are generally spread over 1000 square km area. Digital outreach could bridge this physical distance and reduce the response time of district administration. Poor and vulnerable section will save their travelling cost to district administration. Data collection at the panchayat level will ensure that the genuine problems are collected comprehensively. Processing at the district level will ensure that the plans are formulated as per the need and then sent back to panchayat for its execution. Different economic agents can interact and act parallelly to complete the task in record time.

Good thing is that India has already created the base for introducing the e-governance in local administration by creating digital infrastructure. Its time to implement it based on learning gained from running the difficult task during the lockdown period. It will not only introduce efficiency, but also will be an engine to growth of rural economy.

Why are left activists nowhere in fight against Corona?

0

In a tragedy unparalleled in human history in the last century, no country how remote is unaffected today. Countries developed or underdeveloped, people rich or poor are equally exposed to this lurking danger for its existence. The origin of this pandemic called novel Corona virus is not shrouded in mystery but is linked to a country China who had long history of stifling voices of its citizen crushing liberal values and destroying any semblance of democracy.

Yes it is communist China which is the epicenter of this pandemic and uninvited misery to humane world.

Today countries within their resources are in very initial stage in fight against the Coronavirus. The spread of this disease and the resultant casualties have been exponential till date, engulfing every nation with today’s figure numbering around 7 lac infected persons and over 30K death. With no vaccination and medication available against this disease humanity is stretched beyond its capacity in this fight.

But most conspicuous in this battle line is the absence of Communist and Left Liberal brigade who till date were mobilizing for Azadi from misery, disease and poverty. Esteemed colleges like JNU, Jamia, Jadavpur and Aligarh made international headlines in castigating the nation and the government. It was like a typhoon to see them becoming the sole voice in the Azadi fight. Some of the young icons who for their hidden, selfish and corrupt motives were visible in left funded electronic media and E news portal became the new public opinion makers.  Electronic media especially has left orientation and some frustrated pseudo-intellectuals found regular prime time to vomit their sinister smile for the gullible middle class drawing room audience.

Come Corona, all have disappeared. Where are these Social activists/ arm chair intellectuals/ Moneyed NGOs/ E news barons and patrons of the Azadi brigade? When it came to lead the nation from the worst of the impending danger, all fell silent. When it came to contributing money for the welfare of society all are sitting tight with their purse. When it came to volunteering for social, moral and local support you will not see a single communist.

Is there some connection or sympathy between the communist lordship of china and this charlatan group? Do they derive sadistic pleasure in seeing a dying mankind?

For someone who subscribes to the philosophy of Mao, Stalin and PolPot the trio who slaughtered more mankind then Hitler and Mussolini together, nothing is unbelievable. For someone who wishes to overthrow the democratically elected government through armed rebellion, nothing is unbelievable. For someone who is spoiling the young and gullible minds in colleges and universities to unite against the nation, nothing is unbelievable. For someone who idolizes Afzal Guru Burhan Wani and Yakub Memon nothing is unbelievable.

In this hour of crisis, they have exposed their role and mission for society and it is high time communists be exposed, ostracized and banished from the civilized society.

The regressive attitude of Muslims in India

0

It is of common practice that Muslims worldwide have a deep and pious reverence to their monotheistic religion. Their attitude towards the non Muslims and some sects of Muslims whose core principle digresses from Islam is of deep seated dislike and distrust. Be it non Muslims in Pakistan, Yazidis in Syria or Shias in Sunni dominated countries, all have the same story to tell. The sword of blasphemy is always swinging above the necks of those who disobey the theocratic laws and even those who intimate their reluctance to participate in the Islamic radicalism. Women’s representation in these countries is minimal and least they can do is to risk their lives speaking against the state sponsored discrimination. Islamic principle of governance has always been subject to question.

From childhood, religious intolerance to Muslims is taught in a more clandestine way so as not to alienate the other party. Madrassa education, prevalent in Muslim dominated backward areas focuses on the submission of its pupils to that one God. It declares every single activity according to Hadiths and the Ulema decrees fatwas that further control and limit the personal freedom of a Muslim individual. These unjust rulings create a systematic block in the minds of people who dare not unfollow. In such places, there is seldom control over the rogue elements and anarchy is ever present. The other problem is that any atrocities on Muslims in any part of the world is seen by the community as being done to them. What follows is the burning desire to take revenge which engulfs the community and further pushes them towards blind radicalism.

The faith which precludes the Muslims to participate in interfaith religious practices, limits their involvement in collective participation with the ‘kafirs’ (a derogatory term used to classify non-believers) curtails their view of the world as a whole where people of numerous faiths, ethnicities and cultures exist. The orthodox Muslim leadership is also to be blamed. They are hell-bent towards pushing the community into a mudhole of backwardness by their vehement promotion of Islamic doctrines. The punishments are severe. For example, the punishment for apostasy in Islam is death as per the Sunni Hanafi school. The death punishment is the core strategy to prevent Muslims worldwide from escaping the tight clutches of outdated Islamic laws.

The control and involvement of Islamic jurisprudence over the lives of 2 billion people can only sustain itself in future if it is able to align them with the inclusive teachings in Islam or else it would become much more difficult to contain the young generation that wants more liberties and better opportunities. In India, Muslims started invading from the twelfth century onwards. Majority of the subcontinent was conquered by the second half of the sixteenth century. Partition took place on religious lines against the will of leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan.

“I find no parallel in history for a body of converts and their descendants claiming to be a nation apart from the parent stock.”    Mahatma Gandhi

The partition of India was a disaster for the Muslim fanatics who were keen to make an Islamic state. The secular structure of India benefited it from falling into the religious concept of the authoritative state. This helped win favor of all religious minorities and so didn’t create insecurities in their minds. Though the Khalistan movement did emerge in the 80s (a proxy war started by Pakistan) to create unrest, it was crushed by the Indira Gandhi government successfully. The attention however was never on the Muslim side due to strong votebank and appeasement politics of the Congress. This led to rise in illegal infiltration of Bangladeshi Muslims in India which was left better unnoticed. The Muslims were always keen on proselytizing Non Muslims and getting converts. The other parties hardly cared. They also exploded in India in terms of percentage population.

The dismal ignorance on the part of Indian government to regulate the population has emptied resources and destroyed stability in many places. The rebuttal of the Shah Bano case on the interference of the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi is the golden example of the hypocrisy of the Muslim community who say that women in Islam are the most privileged. Any attempt to play with the Shariat is condemnable and the Indian constitution has no right to meddle in these affairs. This hypocrisy exists in the secular state which is no less than a blackmail from the Muslim community even after their Pakistani brothers had left and made an Islamic nation. The Uniform Civil Code needs to be implemented so as to deal with the problems of appeasement that still persists in India on religious basis. This will help not only in the inclusion of all Indian citizens despite their religious background into the mainstream but also almost remove the scope of communal disharmony to a large extent. The Madrassas are the hotbed of radicalization of Muslim youth and their strict surveillance is the need of the hour.

Even today, Maulanas have the impunity to spew hate from their pedestals under the nose of the government. Law is seldom welcome in Muslim dominated places. And when force is used to control such lawlessness, the victimhood card is frequently played by the majority of Muslims and their voices are further strengthened by leftist media handles running on Islamic bucks from Gulf countries. This dangerous apologist stand from the government further isolates the harmonious and peace loving parties and in the end anarchy wins. So, the Muslim community doesn’t believe in the law of the land and hardly cares. They come like bees whenever someone from their community is heckled and interrogated to defend him. Actually, the real danger that Muslims have is from their own leadership that is buoyed up by its paranoid journalism. The only strategy for the leadership is to generate fear psychosis among Muslims and then to exploit this fear for their own benefits.

The sycophantic media painstakingly picks up negative and isolated insurance from the Indian society like lynchings and blows them up out of proportions to convey the sorry state of affairs of the Indian Muslims. This attracts various foreign media and work as fodder for such handles which are keen on maligning India’s image worldwide. Indian muslims are shown as oppressed and victims of injustice and prejudice. Communal riots that happen time to time in India are not due to the system of governance created post independence but due to Muslim’s rabble rousing leadership and ugly yellow journalism. Muslim reactions even on small issues are accompanied with a frenzy of emotionalism. There is a strong reaction from their side which usually ends with violence.

The culminating point of their endeavour will be the inevitable backlash of police brutality and blunt force to maintain them. The Muslim leadership and media also are to be blamed for their continuous ranting after each and every riot. Muslim sentiments are kept boiling by the propagandists and hate for the police never simmers down. The intense mutual hatred between the Muslims and police is because of the continuous exaggeration of isolated brutalities by the police which is further flamed by the Muslim leadership’s aggressive stance.

The fear of hell fire

Muslims, from a very young age, are fed with the notion that they are superior to every Mushrik and polytheists. That they are the people who will go to Jannat (heaven) just because they are the believers in the true faith. The activities and practices of the Non Muslims are kufr and unlawful and any Muslim complying with the kafirs and participating in kufr has made his status as a Muslim null and void. For instance, in Fatwa-e-Razviya- which is the main fatwa book of Barelvi Muslims- it is clearly stated that all the boons of the Day Of Judgement are only for the believers and kafirs are completely excluded. The attitude towards kafirs is of disgrace and unremitting hostility.

‘O, ye who believe:
Take not into your intimacy
Those outside your ranks:
They will not fail
To corrupt you. They
Only desire your ruin:
Rank hatred has already
Appeared from their mouths:
What their hearts conceal
Is far worse.
We have made plain
To you the Signs,
If ye have wisdom.
Ah! ye are those
Who love them,
But they love you not,
Though ye believe
In the whole of the Book,
When they meet you,
They say, ‘We believe’:
But when they are alone,
They bite off the very tips
Of their fingers at you
In their rage. Say:
‘Perish in your rage;
Allah knoweth well
All the secrets of the heart.’
If aught that is good
Befalls you, it grieves them;
But if some misfortune
Overtakes you, they rejoice
At it. But if ye are constant
And do right,
Not the least harm
Will their cunning
Do to you; for God
Compasseth round about
All that they do
(Quran, 3.118-20)

Such verses are considered holy and followed blindly by large numbers of pious Muslims. It only ends up creating a sense of psychological rift between the different parties and finally ends up in inevitable violence. It is reiterated how much good a non Muslim may be, he can never be better than a slave  Muslim. Also colluding with non Muslims is highly criticised and plotting schemes against them is appreciated. These religious injunctions are extremely vicious and are the main reasons for worldwide terrorism.

The last resort is Islamophobia card played by Muslims to justify their innocence. Their disagreement to any reforms in Islam is the testament to the hypocrisy that is prevalent in the Muslim community. They would take every single benefit from the government but when it comes to their religious freedom, they would lift their hands in denial. The picture drawn of Hindus and other non-believers is that of filth and they are compared to vermins and rodents while any text doing the same in the case of Muslims would bring forth howls of denunciation from the secularists and Muslims alike.

Also to be noted that no non Muslim is allowed to stay in the Arab island but if a Bangladeshi or Pakistani immigrant in India is asked to leave it is considered very much an assault on Islam. In Islamic countries, it is discovered that imposition of religious education is common but if a non Islamic country puts restriction on Quranic education, it is rejected with frantic vehemence. Some Quranic verses that determine the fate of non believers are frequently used by terrorist organisations to justify their overseas and inland terrorism.

Surely, those who disbelieve and did wrong; God will not forgive them, nor will He guide them to any way except the way of Hell, to dwell therein forever.

(Quran 4:168-169)

But those who reject Our signs are the companions of the left hand – on them will be fire vaulted over.

 (Quran 90:19-20)

Surely, the gates of the Heaven will not be opened for those who deny Our revelations and treat them with arrogance; their admission into paradise will be as impossible as the passing of a camel through the eye of a needle. That is how We shall reward the criminals. Hell shall be their bed and flames shall be their covering. That is how We shall reward the wrongdoers.

(Qurʾān 7:40-41)

Until and unless Muslims don’t support their nation above their religion, they will face trouble and feel secluded in the current system. The Islamic money pouring into religious institutes run all across India is the hotbed of political gambling and crony capitalism. The backbone needs to crippled so as to ensure further uniformity in the system. These loopholes in democracy have been misused time to time. Without filling them, we cannot ensure development at all hierarchies.

Coronavirus crisis: Are you eating safe food?

0

Coronavirus, a family of viruses, usually is responsible for a mild respiratory illness which is identical to the common cold. In the past, some of them are known to cause severe illnesses such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The recent outbreak of a disease with pneumonia-like symptoms originated in Wuhan, China in December 2019. The virus has been recently named “severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2″ (SARS-CoV-2) by the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses (ICTV). The disease was termed COVID-19 (Coronavirus Disease-2019) by WHO on 11th Feb 2020.

COVID-19 has taken many lives across the world and is spreading its leg in India as well. Many states have declared the disease as pandemic and utmost efforts are being made to control the outbreak. People are in fray whether or not the COVID-19 gets transmitted through food. This delusion among the masses must be resolved with awareness and dissemination of correct information.

Does coronavirus make food unsafe?

The good news is, food does not support the growth of any virus as the viruses need a host (animal or human). In addition, experiences from SARS & MERS suggest that cooking food can kill the virus. The heat treatment at 60 ℃ for at least 30 minutes would be effective. Thus, it is unlikely that cooked foods can raise concern until it is prevented from being contaminated post-cooking.

Which food is unsafe?

In India, most of the people are of habit to take food cooked in their homes. Such persons are safer than those having a habit of eating out, ordering food online, or are residing in hostels or as paying guests. So, the question arises on the safety of outside food and packed food. One should refrain from eating at unhygienic eateries and should avoid outside food if they are not sure of its hygiene. The food prepared in open, unhygienic conditions, and being handled by persons not following good hygiene are of greater concern. Packed foods from good companies that are following quality assurance standards norms are unlikely to be unsafe as they follow strictly adhere to the norms to provide safer products.

Are fruits & vegetables safe?

Being a zoonotic disease, COVID-19 does not affects plants. However, the raw and under-cooked foods (fruits & veggies) can spread the diseases, if they are being handled by an infected person. If raw consumption is intended, good hygiene and proper cleaning must be followed to ensure their safety. Also, cross-contamination between raw/uncooked foods & the cooked or ready to eat foods must be avoided.

Should we eat poultry & meat based food?

The spread of disease through the consumption of poultry & poultry products does not hold merit as per the current knowledge and past experiences with the SARS & MERS. FSSAI, the food safety regulator in India, has issued a clarification on this matter stating poultry and their products to be considered as safe. However, the suggestions made by the WHO on hygiene must be followed. In addition, FSSAI has also advised avoiding the consumption of raw or under-cooked meat as well as unprocessed food products. Frozen food items must be consumed only after cooking them properly.

Recommendations for Safe Food:

WHO has issued recommendations for the manufactures as well as food workers to reduce exposure and transmission of the SARS-CoV-2. Those involved in food manufacturing must follow proper hand hygiene; cough/cold hygiene practices; safe food practices; and avoiding close contact, when possible, with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing. Food workers must wash hands: before starting work; before handling cooked or ready-to-eat food; after handling or preparing raw food; after handling waste; after cleaning duties; after using the toilet; after blowing the nose, sneezing or coughing; after eating drinking or smoking; and after handling money.

All the governmental agencies responsible for food safety across the world are having a close watch on the situation. Till now no evidence is available to them that could suggest the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 through the food or food packaging. US Department of Agriculture advises that good hygiene practices must be followed while handling or preparing foods. As per USDA, one should follow: washing hands & surfaces often, properly cleaning of raw fruits & veggies, separating raw/uncooked meat from other foods, cooking food at the right temperature, and refrigerating food promptly.

What should we do?

As a citizen, it is everyone’s duty to be safe and make others safe by disseminating correct knowledge about the SARS-CoV-2 and not to spread rumours. COVID-19 is a highly contagious disease and it can only be fought by following good hygiene practices. It is the responsibility of everyone involved in handling, preparation, and transport of food materials to follow the hygiene practices recommended by WHO/FSSAI. By doing so, we’ll prevent the spreading of the novel coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2.

Defied lockdown, Lack of vision or extension of politics

0

When prime minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on the evening of 24th March, we have seen a firm determination in the country leadership to fight against the coronavirus. The complete lockdown was urged by the supreme leader and was labeled as almost curfew. When it was expected that the growing chain will be trailed and stopped, we can see a surge in the crowd on the Delhi-UP border, leading to a complete failure of the lockdown requested. We will see an analysis of the situation based on political. Also, we will see some regular hate-mongering anti-national and anti-establishment forces, deliberately trying to destabilize the government arrangement in such a hard time when the health of the country is on the risk.

After the huge success of Janta curfew, we realized the united spirit of India, and with that belief PM Narendra Modi called for a nationwide lockdown of 21 days. Probably PM Modi had an expectation that 130 crore citizens will be fully co-operating in the fight against Covid19 Disease. For the first two days, all the citizens were co-operating in the complete lockdown when we see activities from some sleeper cells of anti-India forces, who created panic among the migrant population in various parts of the country, specially Delhi. At this point, I would like to emphasize specially on the term sleeper cell, for the reason that there is no election in the concerning states, and no political benefit seems to be drawn from the malicious activities of such society vultures.

Firstly when state governments were busy arranging food and shelter for the daily workers and under-privileged section, we can see in the video below (click link), where people (allegedly Delhi police) announcing that buses are available up to Delhi-UP and Delhi-Haryana border. However, there was no arrangements for peoples beyond that.

Further, a very small fraction of the migrated population of the at Delhi-UP and Delhi Haryana border started walking towards their destination, instead of providing them stay and food, a number of vultures tried to create pressure on the government for their migration. In such a scenario sympathetically Uttar Pradesh Government announced the arrangement of 1000 government buses to safely migrate such peoples. But at the same time counter-attack was done by sleeper cell network and NDTv Reporter Aravind gunasekar misled public that 1000 buses will be arranged at Anand Vihar Bus terminal. As you can see in the tweet below.

Under such conditions, AAP MLA Raghav Chaddha came up with baseless rumors, said UP Police is charging migrants. However some cases may be seen where police used force to enforce lockdown, but that was not at all very specific to the Delhi-UP border. The tweet is deleted after some time, and UP police lodged an FIR against Raghav Chaddha.

Deliberately putting such rumors are not at all going to give a political mileage to any of the politicians or reporters. All of us must have come up with a solution and helping hand, for those who are in the tough times for their basic needs under this crisis. We must understand that at a time when all of us need to be united. Central and state governments were unable to forecast such issues, and helping migrants by providing 1000 buses turned down, and must be put liable for nabbing such malicious elements of society.

A small mistake may lead us to a huge problem socially and economically. And such anti-establishment journalists and politicians, playing with the life of a large chunk of the population must be framed under strong sections of IPC. Their nexus objective and ideology must be exposed to all of us.
