Innovative ideas from Mother Nature

0

It is believed that ideas for invention of many gadgets and machines was inspired from Nature. In-depth study of Nature might have been done for inventing new machines and appliances, the science of which is now called by the name of ‘Biomimicry’ or ‘Biomimetics’.  The human being definitely tends to have gotten the idea from Nature only even when he went in his spree of inventing various modes of transport such as flight, ship, metro, etc. and not only mastered but made improvements day-in-and-day-out over it.

Human beings in the course of and during the process of his development had invented many new devices, machines and gadgets. As a result of invention of aeroplane one may now expect to move from one corner of the world to another and thereby showing that the vast world as it is known to be as a small village. Likewise, with the invention of ship, we have come to know of many new places, particularly Island countries or archipelago not known or even heard-of earlier in history of this world. Similarly, the invention of Metro has improved our movement in otherwise traffic-laden cities. Now it is not a dream but a reality to find one comfortably taking breakfast, lunch and dinner at three different corners of the world in a single day. There are even some heroically bold persons, intending to prove that the world is nothing but a small community and with that goal in mind, setting off on a world tour on hot-air balloon, or a bicycle or even on foot and, no doubt, many have also succeeded in their mind-boggling endeavour to demonstrate the world to be a small village.

Major discoveries and inventions by the mankind from times immemorial have led to a vast progress in the field of technologies changing the course of development of the human society the world over. Now, it seems a probability that such innovative ideas definitely would have emerged from the natural concept existing worldwide and that man must have got the idea of inventing the ‘iron bird’ – the flight or aeroplane, by watching the birds flying and working out that biological mechanism in machine format; or inventing ship and submarines by watching the fish float and whale swim; or buses and trucks the engine of which is very similar to that of human being itself – fuel as food, coolant to keep engine cool just like we have water, exhaust pipe just like that of our excretory system and even, in a lighter vein, even engines give out gases from time to time upon halting; or for that matter developing underground railway or metropolitan by watching the earthworm moving inside the earth, etc. Once after the invention of the flight, it led to man’s going higher and higher up the altitude that later prompted the discovery of rockets, missiles and various artificial satellites leading to faster modes of communication and other facilities like broadcasting, weather analysis, etc.

Similarly new textile fabrics with the usage of nano-technology has been invented which is capable of repelling liquids, dirt, releasing stains, neutralizing odours and balancing body temperature which in fact is the result of studies undertaken on plants by scientists mimicking the properties found in plant surfaces. Work is already in full swing on other innovative ideas like skin put, which is an invention which allows the surface of one’s body to be used as a touch screen.

An armband projects the image of a menu or keyboard onto one’s hand or forearm. Skin put can detect what part of a projected image one touches, due to difference in bone density and skin texture and which in turn transmits a wireless signal to a computer or any such device. There are bound to be many other such inventions in the offing which all is fundamentally based on nature and its products – be it flora or fauna. All said and done, still lots of things exist that need be studied, adopted or pondered over by mankind from the Mother Nature, as the latter is not devoid of vast information available in mixed form. Wherever one looks in nature, one finds clear evidence of the Creator’s extra-ordinary intelligence and design. In fact, the creator of this Universe has amazing ideas.

The God invented various ideas first and humans just try to replicate them. Many of the inventions are just a replica of the already existing inventions in its natural form, like for example, the computer – which is a man-made invention but the naturally existing super computer is ‘Human Brain’ which no material computer can defeat, if the capacity of human brain is utilised to its fullest capacity. It is said human brain is used only to maximum 2 per cent of its capacity and one might wonder what will happen if some super human is able to use 100 per cent of brain capacity, it might even defeat the super computers.

We now speak of inserting chips into the brain whereas there is more capacity inbuilt in the human brain itself but though humans have invented so many worldly items like calculator, computer and other such gadgets and see its fast functioning but it’s a pity we are not able to utilise the inbuilt capacity of brain itself which if done will do away with the need for any calculators, computers and related chips to be inserted in human body or brain to achieve the target or enhancing the capacity to compete with the artificial machines.

VIP vs. mutual agreement on road

0

The Vehicle Insurance Policy (VIP) is taken by most of the people for insurance of their respective vehicle(s) be it for comprehensive coverage or only third party insurance, be it two wheeler, three wheeler, cars or for that matter any kind of vehicle, but just for the ‘sake of’ making Insurance Policy thus not to get entangled in getting issued a penalty by way of traffic challan notice in the absence of valid insurance policy, by traffic authorities, rather than the insurance serving the real purpose for which it is intended. Nowadays, if someone is found driving vehicle without a valid insurance document, the fine amount  sometime even run up to the tune of Rs. 10,000, viz., more than the annual premium amount for getting an insurance of vehicle of four wheeler or other big vehicles.

Just like we go for getting the pollution level of our vehicle checked to escape getting punished by way of fine;, similar is the situation in respect of getting insurance policy even.  In cases of accidents, particularly which are minor in nature such as resulting in getting dent in one’s vehicle, scratch, breaking of side rear view mirror due to brushing by the fast moving vehicles on either side of the road or getting the glasses of front or tail lights broken owing to sudden application of brake, damage to number plates, etc. to name a few, hardly anyone might be approaching the insurance company from where they got their insurance made due to the time-consuming and strenuous efforts that is required to be made in arranging calling an insurance agent and thus it seems worthwhile and a time-saver to go-in for a mutual settlement between parties on the road itself.

In case of such untoward happening on the road, particularly, if it is a minor one, the insured party hardly tries to get in touch with insurance issuing company for the following reasons: Firstly, it is rather difficult to stop one’s vehicle in the midst of heavy traffic in Delhi roads or for that matter in any of the big cities or even towns and the situation is even more alarming when such accident happens in the already congested fly-overs. Secondly, getting in touch with any insurance company agent at that particular point of time is itself a difficult task as many times one does not get through the line or continuously hear music playing or giving lots of options to choose from mobile keypad before trying to connect to an agent over phone and even if one succeeds in getting connected over telephone with an insurance agent, it is a herculean task to call the insurance agent to the spot to get an assessment of the damage done. Thirdly, the other party involved will neither have patience nor time to wait for the agent to come and carry out his drill. Fourthly, the time required to take the vehicle to the concerned vehicle company’s designated workshop and then follow up on the same as the damage is not rectified in a day or two.

Hence, with no other option left, the party which is at fault is compelled to pay from its pocket to compensate the other party. Here the phenomena of might is right or even muscle power plays a role or even raising voice and the one whose voice is more heavy and commanding gets to win the deal of making or extracting money from the other submissive party. Basically, at that time, a sad feeling comes as to what was the purpose of making insurance at all? Anyhow, by this good gesture between parties, or even sometimes leading to little scuffle resulting in agreeing to go for mutual consent of compensating one another, insurance company benefits by way of saving in millions of rupees when such claims are not made or done by the parties concerned, even though huge amount is spent annually by vehicle owner(s) towards shelling out money towards premium amount on making the insurance or its renewal.

At the same time, it is not always that one can get along with mutual consent as the trouble is more when the case involves a four wheeler and a two wheeler bike and it is almost always that the two wheeler bike rider gets away easily as remarkable damage occurs only to the four wheeler and to get compensation in thousands for damage occurring to the car from a two wheeler rider is a task which is near to impossible one and in such cases except for a couple of exchange of abusing words, one does not get any other respite to ventilate his anger. Similar is the situation when a car gets damaged owing to hit by public transport buses or some trucks. The resultant pain of spending money on repair to the damage caused is added one. Now, day-in-and-day-out the situation is getting worse in the sense that even exchange of abusing words is riskier as such minor scuffle leads to very serious and fatal incidents even.

In case of major accidents, naturally one cannot be expected to shell out thousands of rupees and the option left is just to wait for the insurance official to come to the spot and sometimes if the accident is major naturally the casualty will also be involved so police authorities also need to come in picture. Though lots of money is shelled out at the time of minor accidents and the total paid out of such mutual agreement on roads itself comes to hefty amount in addition to the extra uncalled-for expenditure that one has to bear on repairing the vehicles, yet there is no escape from shelling out nearly Rs. 10,000 annually towards a normal car insurance.

Despite having shelled out so much in instalments on the roads throughout the year, what customer gets while renewing his Insurance Policy is a negligible peanut amount of discount offered by the insurance company in the name of  ‘No Claim Bonus’ and the funny part is that many of us feel happy and contended in getting that small amount of discount as No Claim Bonus from the Insurance Company and easily forget the total amount spent towards paying compensation to other party, getting one’s vehicle repaired at personal cost, etc.

Opinion: “The Kashmir Files” and its depiction of present social ecosystem

0

The Kashmir files is not an ordinary film. It’s not made for the purpose of entertainment. It’s an art film based on true events and the characters portrayed in it were/are very much real. Now, the purpose of art is to make people uncomfortable, to make people question and to make a revelation. And this movie was both a revelation and an uncomfortable watch. It left me feeling disturbed and suffocated, gasping for breath even though I was prepared for what was ahead. My heart goes out to our very own Kashmiri Hindu people who were robbed of their homes and livelihoods, forcefully thrown out, killed, murdered and raped by Radical Islamists and Pakistani insurgents. They were completely abandoned by the then government and made to live as a refugee in their own country.

It is tragic that the Kashmir which derives its identity from the Kashmiri Pandit community, who were the original residents, who made its culture rich and even warmly accommodated people of other communities, were never given back what was snatched from them. We no longer know Kashmir as the land of Adi Shankaracharya, Ramanujacharya, of scholars and gods. More than half our present generation doesn’t even know these names because apparently, they find their own civilisation so ‘uncool’.

It’s a shame that it’s been 30 years and justice hasn’t fully prevailed. It’s a shame that whole nation and the then government just became a mute spectator, indifferent to the sacrifice that this community was forced to make. It’s a shame that our history textbooks have no mention of this horrific genocide! The media, the then government and the so- called intellectuals have been successful in depriving the present generation of the truth by twisting narratives and brainwashing the youth of the country for their personal benefits. We too failed as a society and became a pawn, never questioned them.

We failed our own people. So- called journalists justified this genocide by saying that Kashmiri Pandits were “the privileged elites who monopolised govt. jobs”. No one ever spoke for the cause of Kashmiri Pandits until now. Thankfully, the present government has been making changes under the rehabilitation scheme and abrogation of article 370 was also a much-needed decision.

Coming back to the movie, it also raises some pertinent questions on present social ecosystem with a specific focus on certain educational institutions and in fact, the plot of the movie is primarily driven by a young man named Krishna, who is a president of a student organisation. Despite the presence of so many important characters, Krishna Pandit, becomes the lead protagonist who is on a quest to know his truth, his identity. His transformation by the end of the movie as a person with a vision and his clarity of thought is something that gives me hope (I am trying not to give spoilers).

Young millennials believe that Kashmir needs ‘Azaadi’, without knowing from whom and without knowing who is the victim and who is the perpetrator. Some of our educational institutions have become a breeding ground for dirty politics. They are making students intolerant and anti-establishment just to secure their personal agendas.

Now, why does the opinion of present generation matter? It matters because they will be the future administrators and policy makers of this country. And if they do not introspect or learn about their civilisation and its brutal past, without filters and without change in narrative, they will never understand the true interests of this nation, its pluralistic values and their countrymen.

Today, the pain of Kashmiri Hindus in being shared and acknowledged. It is important to do that because it makes them feel listened and valued. Our youth also needs to hear their story out because someone has rightly said, “Those who forget history are condemned to repeat it”.

KP Genocide: Dismantling the “Jagmohan Theory”

0

Congress does it. AGAIN…

Indian National Congress makes it clear. They are against Kashmiri Pandits (currently there is no need for the Dattatreya Kaul connection anyway!).

Congress party (Kerala) tweeted a whole thread of pure hatred and bile – denial of Kashmiri Pandit genocide and effectively calling us liars. See this twitter thread https://twitter.com/INCKerala/status/1503033285470957568
(update: they deleted some tweets. But the proofs remain in screenshots available online)

Firstly – its amusing that Congress felt the compelling need to make such a statement because #TheKashmirFiles is going viral.
Why? The movie points no fingers at Congress or any party explicitly. Audience is left to find for itself. Did a ‘chor ki daadi mein tinka’ syndrome play up automatically? Guilty conscience!

Then they hurl the incredulous JAGMOHAN Theory, that must make Goebels proud. Finally folks mastered his art to perfection. Everyone from Kashmiri Muslims to Congress workers in far away Kerala – repeat the same toolkit line.

“Pandits left because Jagmohan told them to leave overnight, so that to leave overnight, so that he could annihilate Muslims. It was his RSS Agenda”

Even Shashi Tharoor used it once…

More than being limitlessly incredulous – this is actually so full of holes, that it brims on being hilarious. So next time – someone gives you this “Jagmohan theory”, ask them just 10 simple questions…

  1. If Jagmohan was RSS man – how was he a Sanjay Gandhi’s right hand man all through? Was SanjayGandhi RSS man too?
  2. Why did Indira Gandhi make him LG of Delhi and appoint him architect of Asian Games 1982 development? Jagmohan held several high levels posts under Cong govts before that too.
  3. Why did Indira appoint him Governor of J&K in 1984? Was Indira an RSS person too? Just coz Jagmohan didn’t play to their script much later in 1990’s – he got branded RSS man. Otherwise he was secular earlier?
  4. If Jagmohan was a RSS man – why did Farooq praise him to heavens when his first term ended as Governor in July 1989. It is all well recorded in public media. Or read Farooq’s speech when Jagmohan administered him oath at end of his Governors rule. And just few months later Jagmohan became communal/RSS? (the truth is – and old timers in Kashmir (if u find one daring speak truth) will tell you, everyone loved his short reign of GovernorRule)
  5. Did Jagmohan place those press releases in Al-Safa newspaper? Did he go to every mohalla to paste Hindu hitlists too? Was he the one coining slogans in Kashmiri threatening Hindus? (can a Punjabi even pronounce Raliv, Tzaliv, Galiv?)
  6. Was he the one whom Bitta Karate reported to? Was he operating the loud speakers in all mosques across the valley on 19Jan night? (Wow… amazing automation he must have achieved to be everywhere)
  7. How exactly did Jagmohan message lakhs of KPs to leave from every nook and corner of Kashmir? Secret telegram and Whatsapp groups? Targetted SMS? Back then we didnt even have telephones? Jagmohan wasnt even in control of state at 19th Jan 1990 as his appointment just came that day. How did he engineer it without being in power?
  8. If it was a BJP conspiracy then why didn’t they manage to retain Jagmohan? He remained governor in his 2nd term just for mere 3 months. (why? thats another story that gets Cong in trouble. Read – https://ikashmir.net/jagmohan/jagmohan2rajiv.html)
  9. If Jagmohan was the conspirator sent by VP Singh govt to eliminate Kashmiri Muslims… the HomeMinister executing this all was Mufti Mohd Sayed. Whenever a kashmiri Muslim gives you this theory – ask them –> Why did u Kashmiri Muslims elect him as your CM later – if he was the architect of annihilation plan of KMs in 1990?
  10. And if Jagmohan/BJP/RSS engineered ethnic exodus… was Jagmohan omnipresent across centuries too… This is our 7th recorded exodus under Muslim ethnic cleansing. Who engineered our earlier 6 exoduses on the same theme earlier…? Or for that matter – who engineers the annihilation of other religious minorities wherever Islamist Jihad spreads. How many places is Jagmohan present in the world.. all across past millennia?

Koi Logic hai???

Still – you will keep hearing this theory – endlessly.
Thats the power of System… Akhir System to unka hee hai.

Engineering, coaching institute and tutors business

0

Engineers were there and were made not now but for long and thus is not anything newfound and the buildings, bridges and machinery they built stand tall even now. But nowadays, the stream of Engineering subject has seen sea change in the sense that not only are there too much of anxiety, stress, pressure and what not among the students to crack the joint entrance examinations and for that purpose right from the stage a child passes out from primary school the time comes when their stationery is added with very bulk books of physics, chemistry, mathematics, what they call PCM, a pre-requisite for Engineering and requisite lab materials. Nowadays, the quantity of bulk books has enormously increased owing to the fact that now the books are computerized printing which has made it very easier to print unlike earlier time when book publishing was a rather difficult task with manual efforts involved.

The more technology of book printing has advanced so has the size and number of pages increased in books disregard of the fact that students are perplexed as to which content is important and which are rubbish-like.  Apart from printing and selling of bulk books, the course of engineering has become more of a source of income for the many coaching institutes and home tuition makers found flourishing in many lanes in cities and towns across the country. More so, even the tuition classes be it in groups or home visit types, the tutors insist on completing the full syllabus from beginning to end just like any recognized school does, instead of just clearing the doubts of student, thus almost running a parallel school. This is probably because if only doubts in questions are cleared, those tutors will run out of business which might be their main source of living.

To speak about the amount of fees charged by those coaching institutes and tutors, the less said the better. The expenditure runs to lakhs of rupees in big coaching Institutes and many students are deprived of getting admitted in such institutes and for home tutors it is almost Rs. 600 per one hour of class. Once upon a time, taking tuition was considered a bad concept and was in fact the children taking tuition were frowned upon and even the children or their parents were very much reluctant to disclose the information that their ward is taking tuition as the tuition taking children were considered some kind of weak students or unintelligent-type during those period. People felt ashamed to tell someone about their children getting tuition in those times. But now, the situation is altogether different. Taking tuition has become something like a fashion statement and a show of affluence and now it is the other way round in the sense that it is shameful during this period for a parent if their children is not taking any kind of tuition in this competitive age.  Even the teachers in schools recommend tuition for their pupil making it easier for them to do their teaching jobs and put the onus or responsibility on tuition teachers. There are some big institutes flourishing with lots of branches across any cities claiming to prepare students for Engineering, medical, chartered accountant, management, civil services and what not.

The tuition institutes for the Board classes such as 10th or 12th class almost run parallel schools making the children very difficult to cope with both school schedule and tuition institutes schedule both equally giving class and homework, thereby the students trying for engineering or some such stream are nowadays found to be not only calling on their health or weakening their eye sight and losing good sound sleep but even seem little absent minded as continuously they are staring at the various mind-boggling formulas, equations and questions and related answers. Added to that is the pressure developed by parents themselves, as no parent want their children to go in for any stream lesser than Engineering or medicine among science stream and a chartered account or an MBA for commerce stream and Civil Services mostly if from humanity stream.

Nowadays, the trend is such that parents send their children to such coaching institutes beginning even when the child is in 6th or 8th class to prepare them for future in Engineering or Medical fields.  Parents forget their own past and they have high expectations from their children and in that process indirectly spoil their mental and physical development and most of such children never experience their young age and from childhood directly land into old age not knowing how the years passed by within the clouds and clusters of bulky books pertaining to school education and to the large stock of books and study materials provided by the coaching institutes. Not only are the coaching institutes and tutors whether home visit or in groups in tuition places are after making money, instead now the new trend is establishment of counselling institutes who helps train students for the various entrance tests to universities across the country consequent to the formulation of the New Education Policy and such counselling institutes apart from providing training in logical ability, numerical aptitude, current affairs, etc. also assist in filling the requisite university admission forms which are tricky instead and not an easy catch for everyone to understand and fill out.

Now, in this pandemic period, the situation is all the more gruesome in the sense that sometime it is offline classes and most of the time online classes thereby further putting strain on eyes due to continued staring at laptop or mobile or any other devices. At least it can easily be said that physical activities have almost been reduced to zero particularly among children aiming to cut through Engineering, medical or such other high profile careers and for them the concept of enjoyment, they might ask, what is that?

12 March 2022 12:00 AM

I think I did a lot of social media activism to get people to see this movie because I thought a lot about it, about the power of the truth that I had researched and read. I genuinely felt everyone needed to know the truth, to have an entire picture, to know the other side. I called it a movie with the impetus for Bharat’s healing and a solution for polarization. I was genuinely looking forward to this. I had little idea of what waited for me on the other side. What I’m about to write may not be clear, conclusive or even in the same language because that’s exactly what is going on in my head- A whole lot of unrest, call it a “thought storm”. The Kashmir Files isn’t an ordinary movie that you see in OTT, just chill and eat, watch review and forget. It truly is a cinematic experience. I mean out of all of this the most ridiculous part would be reviewing the Kashmir files (not the forgetting part but we’ll get to that later).

What waited for me on the once the credits had ended is something that’s beyond my current comprehension because it’s making me question the very things, I thought I knew as my core processes, question my mental faculties that render me capable of building a thought, a narrative. I didn’t sit through the entire credits because of my habituation to mcu, I was just too numb to move, all the crying had hollowed me out. I didn’t even realize that 3 hours had passed. For anyone who thinks “2 hours 50 minutes is too long Kaun dekhega itni lambi movie” or has seen the movie and is thinking it was stretched and could have been shorter, (fight me :P) I think both of these lines of thoughts are also ridiculous, because you really need that time to process what was going on, it’s so much to take in. Vivek Agnihotri ji utilized every second of the amount of time the Kashmir files was rolling, every single second.

I don’t think I can fully give justice to describing the acting of each and every one of the cast members without giving spoilers, so I will be sticking to the (not so sankshipt) Saransh- I thought I knew pain and suffering till I saw Bhasha Sumbli ji and most of all Anupam Kher ji. Every single review (barring film companion) and feedback I saw was raving Anupam Ji’s acting and calling it his best role he ever played and now I know why. In the 2 hours and 50 minutes I felt like this is the first time in my existence that I’m feeling pain and suffering or even emotions. In my head, I had such a strong empathetic connection with Pushkarnath Pandit that it felt like we were of one mind. I felt his trauma and pain as if my own, his loss as if my own, felt my heart breaking with every breakdown of his on screen. I felt the love Pushkarnath Pandit has in his heart for his family. I felt his desperation and helplessness in trying to convince Krishna. I need no explanation for his nondisclosure of their family history to Krishna.

I felt his abandonment. Even now as I write this, I realize I haven’t left the connection with Pushkarnath Pandit behind, and I can’t stop my tears and my crying. I can’t even detach from his dementia, so much so that I think it’s what’s brought on my thought storm. There’s still so much to unpack and process, only Anupam ji could do this role. I still can’t figure out if Anupam ji was born for this role or the role for him. Mithunda’s Brahma Dutt said “tute hue log bolte nahi hai, unhe suna jata hai” and I hope I was able to hear Pushkarnath Pandit with the honor and love he deserved. When one faces a tragedy, a trauma, there is this brief period when a person can’t react, and Bhasha ji nails this numbness. Bhasha Ji’s acting was so real that I’d rather not return to it now lest I suffer a major breakdown rendering me completely useless till the foreseeable future. Prithviraj Sarnaik’s Shiva Pandit will stay with me and haunt me for days to come. What I can’t fathom in my late 20s Prithviraj just beautifully, heartbreakingly portrayed…..It’s just like Krishna says “Kashmir ka sach itna sach hai ki woh jhoonth hi lagta hai” and this jhoonth is also so inconvenient and gut wrenching that it’s suppression is inevitable.

Darshan Kumar’s journey as Krishna might feel like it’s rushed to some, but I could see where his cognitive dissonance and confusion came from and hence, so his speech didn’t feel like it was sudden and out of the blue. It was like the scattered pieces in his head finally fit and something clicked. In my head I could see Krishna growing up hearing these stories while being raised by Pushkarnath and being at conflict with what was taught in school, colleges and the mainstream narrative. Darshan Kumar is a gem. Pallavi Joshi and Chinmay Mandlekar are two actors I have always loved and what they brought to the screen didn’t make me hate them for playing the villains, for I was far too scared of the sinister characters they played and their malevolent thought processes. The rest of the supporting cast just helped make the Kashmir files coherent, that even though I may not be naming them individually, I know they are irreplaceable. Now coming back to my thought storm and talk of the other side, I realized that for anyone, paying attention, would ever so subtly feel like their belief system is being shaken. You see most people now believe in the whole concept of multiple narratives of one side, the other side, and listening to every aspect of the truth and the Kashmir files is a slap to that concept. Because the truth is the truth, it’s absolute, koi sikka nahi hai ki uske do pehlu honge.

And then the point of ridiculousness of reviewing, well if the reader noticed, I stopped labelling Kashmir files as a movie after the 3rd time because it’s not a movie, it’s a platform to present the history, one can’t review history and label it as good or bad. History by its very nature should be factual, and facts are facts, incapable of being good or bad while being capable of generating good and bad feelings about them. And what this history made me feel was hollow, empty after all the crying (and there was a lot of it), and guilt and shame. I like the rest of India are guilty of denying the Kashmiri Hindus their right to justice. We should be ashamed of our inaction. I also feel guilty for my unnecessary anger towards all those Aazaadijeevis and red DP for Kashmir folks. Vivek Agnihotri’s cinematic genius was revealed to me with the Kashmir files, for I don’t think anyone else could have presented the history so brutally and brilliantly. His genius wasn’t just limited to what was shown on screen but his presenting of the various point of views and bringing them together so coherently in a marvelous script (any Kunal Kamra fans reading this? :P) that before today my limited mind could only see the movies made previously on the Kashmir issue as atrocious and pathetic propaganda (Mission Kashmir, Haider, Shikara) despite being so well made.

But now I get them because I finally understand the limited sensibilities of their makers. Another core-shaking line by Mithun da actually addresses these sensibilities eloquently “kaisi Vidambana hai, Kashmir ko jannat mante hai aur iss jannat ko jahannum banane wale bhi jihaad isliye karte hai ki unhe jannat mile”. Both Religious Zealots and leftists believe in this Utopia-(their) Jannat with such passion and sincerity, it’s the core of what makes them extremists and view the whole rest of the world as oppressors for not agreeing with them. For them the government, the army, the system, the Brahmins/Pandits are the root of all evil, so they stop at nothing to eradicate the very fabric of existence of all who oppose or resist them. And this is where I feel that my instinct about the Kashmir files containing the parts of the key to address the current polarization (as mentioned in my previous article).

Now on to the existential question raised by this movie “What is Justice”, according to me the crux of this extraordinary movie- I think after all this time and suffering we should ask the Kashmiri Hindu community what would be justice for them. Merely resettlement isn’t enough, we need to ensure that we’ve made a system where there isn’t any scope for another exodus and future attempts at genocide. We need to ensure that we respect and honor the Kashmiri Hindus, and acknowledge that their existence is a gift to humanity. We also need to remember what happened in 1990 wasn’t just a political genocide, religious ethnocide but a humanitarian crisis. This movie honestly depicted what happens to a community when there’s lack of humanity. Walking out of the theatre I was feeling heartbroken, hollow and guilty but now as I try to conclude, all I can say is Please watch this movie no matter what your beliefs and political inclinations are, and if possible do watch it twice, I know I will.
