Last Saturday, on 29th September, NaMo Bharath had organized unique event to highlight the achievements of four years of Narendra Modi’s government. The event was organized in NMKRV college in Bangalore. The format of the event dubbed as “NaMo Harate” was unique in its conceptualization.

The noted participants of the event

Led by Hiremagaluru Kannan, noted litterateur, priest, writer, television personality and radio jockey. The format was modeled on “ಹರಟೆ” or Chat where panel members have free-wheeling discussions on the topic at hand. The moderator has to skillfully ensure that the discussion does not veer off without breaking the flow of chat. This is the defining feature that differentiates from your regular debates and discussions. While this format has been popularly used in Kannada medium on other occasions, this is the first time it is being used for campaign purposes with political messaging.

The panel on Saturday, included Giridhar Upadhyay (@antisickular) Managing committee member ‘THE MYTHIC SOCIETY’ and President of ‘MANTHANA’, Shakuntala Iyer (@shakkuiyer), Well know Social activist and Modi supporter and young thinkers Akshatha Bajpe (@Akshathamlr) and Shreyank Ranade (@ShreyankaRanade).

Topic of the “ಹರಟೆ” or Chat was to discuss four years of Modi government. The speakers brought out from their personal experience what they felt were the issues or achievements that touched their hearts. There was a balance between elocution of personal emotional experience and fact based articulation of Modi government achievements.

The event with spectacular success

Giridhar Upadhyay highlighted on Modi government’s strict vigilance on foreign funding to NGOs and explained how the present NPA crisis is an outcome of the bad governance during the previous UPA regime. Akshatha Bajpe brought out personal experiences from Rural Karnataka with regards to empowerment of women from schemes such as Toilet building under Swatcha Bharatha, LPG connection under Ujwala Scheme. Shakuntala Iyer highlighted how Modi government has consistently invested in improving the overall health condition of the poorer masses. Whether through schemes targeted towards expectant mothers, immunization for new born children or reduction in medical expenses through Jan Aushadhi stores, capping of stent prices.

Finally touching upon on how “Ayushman Bharath” will be trans-formative to a vast Indian population in reducing medical expenses and preventing people falling back to poverty. Shreyank detailed out the road-map of Modi government towards infrastructure development whether they be national highways, railways or digital infrastructure push. He highlighted how Mudra, Start-up India, Skill India and other schemes are working towards solving for employment. Though these have fallen short till date, it is expected to bear fruit in the future.

One common lament among all the panelists was the loss to India with the defeat of Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2004. Vajpayee used to think with his heart, which led to being taken advantage by opponents. Thus the common appeal to the audience was to ensure that 2019 is not a repeat of 2004. Hiremagaluru Kannan skillfully navigated the chat from one topic to another, from one panelist to another using limericks, humorous quotes, rhymes and puns. The audience was kept entertained and captivated with the discussion at hand.

The event was well attended with an estimated audience of 1,000+ from various parts of Bangalore. The audience included mix of citizens across gender and age groups. The event was live streamed on Facebook reaching out to a 1,00,000+ audiences with viewership of 20,000+. The event was well received with multiple requests to conduct similar programs across Karnataka.

Note: NaMo Bharath is newly formed organization of volunteers who aim to work in support of Narendra Modi in Karnataka. The aim is to mobilize volunteers across Karnataka in order to help Modi win 28/28 seats in Karnataka thus contributing to BJP’s Mission 365+. It is an independent and self-funded organization comprising mostly of young professionals and students.
