If CAA is discriminatory to Muslims, USA’s Lautenberg Amendment of 1990 is discriminatory to Muslims too because it excludes Muslim refugees from Iran to be resettled in USA. It allows only Jews, Christians, and Bahais to be resettled in USA.

Even if we accept that Faiz’s poem was in the context of a protest against a Pakistani dictator, why sing it in India against a democratically elected government and a democratically passed law (CAA)?

Sympathy for the Muslims will decline, unfortunately. Just as it has in most of the West, not to mention China.

The purpose of this post is not to support or justify the NRC but to quell any fears.

If we look at Article 14 from a narrow perspective we may end up questioning the lack of one single matrimonial act in India.

Citizenship act must be looked at in the context of a continuum of the existence of a two nation theory which continues to be alive and kicking in other parts of the world.

Ironically, the Left parties rode to power in West Bengal on the back of the support of the Hindu refugees from East Pakistan.

Any Jew living anywhere in the world, persecuted or not persecuted can seek refuge and ultimately citizenship of Israel.

While we are fighting for Muslims not being included in the ambit, not once did we talk about the state sponsored  genocide on the Hindus in Pakistan.

Had the previous governments taken these steps and taken concrete steps on this, thousands of people living as refugees in our country would have already got justice.
