Lie that Swatantryaveer Savarkar gave himself the title ‘Veer’ writing under pseudonym nailed

0

Swatantryaveer (Meaning of it is ‘Hero of Independence’)

A false propaganda was started by P Sainath or some Communist [This could be Pavan Kulkarni writing in The Wire in May 2017] that Savarkar gave himself the title “Swatantryaveer” writing under pseudonym of Chitragupta in his own biography in 1926. A video telling such things was released and promoted by them (Leftists and other Savarkar-baiters like Congress supporters) and all so-called ‘progressives’ took this issue and indulged in their favorite game of throwing mud on Savarkar using Goebelian method.

In response to this, Chandrashekhar Sane, one of the many people behind the website www.savarkar.org had shown the reference to Balarao Savarkar written “Ratnagiri Parva’s” ‘Kavi Vaishampaayan’ and dramatist of the play ‘Ranadundubhi’ Wamanrao Joshi calling Savarkar as ‘Swayantryaveer’ in February 1924 itself. (And Chandrashekhar Sane never read any reference to Savarkar as ‘Veer’ or ‘Swayantryaveer’ in the biography written by Chitragupta. The only one is by Dr Ravindra Ramdas given in the preface, which is a different matter altogether.)

In January 1924 Savarkar was released from jail in Ratnagiri (but banned from taking part in political activities and confined to Ratnagiri). On 15 August 1924 itself a brief biography of Savarkar was written by Shri Ranade, which had it’s preface written by the great Marathi literary man Tatyasaheb alias N C Kelkar, and that entire biography refers to Savarkar as ‘Swayantryaveer’ on page after page. This is a written proof and the picture attached herewith is the scanned copy of the first edition. Chandrashekhar Sane got this book from a library in Wardha. This book has been digitalized by the World Digital Library. This book is also on savarkar.org but it is not in digitalized form but in text form there. So there wasn’t certainty about the title “Swatantryaveer”. Since the original book itself is scanned now, there is no scope for any doubt. It is proven that at least by August 1924 itself Savarkar had been honoured by the people with the title “Swatantryaveer” with this evidence (much before 1926).

Besides, there is no corroborative evidence to know if Chitragupta was indeed Savarkar or anyone else. This claim of Chitragupta being Savarkar himself was first mentioned over two decades after Savarkar’s death. At that time, it was thought that Chitragupta was C Rajagopalachari with it being published from Madras (now Chennai).

Gwalior attack on trinity in INC, one more support to Modi to save India

0

The resignation of Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia from the congress party of the dynast Raghul Gandhi has clearly exposed how the oversold, post-retired, unwinnable oldies in the congress party are taking the party for a ride and denying any chance to young leaders.

Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia was not just a congress leader like anyone but had come with a legacy, popular support and mass base. The mother, daughter and son trio to remain in power without any challenge, looks like, wants to get rid of all talented, meritorious young and youthful leaders from the party so that the dynast Raghul Gandhi can remain in the party without any challenge.

For the oldies, congress is the only option because no other party would ever be ready to accommodate them and would give them ticket or make them ministers. At best, the oldies may be appointed only as Margadarshaka and are given a corner space in the party if they want to shift their tent. Whereas in congress party, the oldies can always hold on to the rein and shackle of power by continuously praising the trinity family and can spent rest of life in peace and prosperity (power and opportunity to loot money from public exchequer).

The family in return wants only sycophancy and support to the meritless, un-teachable dynast Raghul Gandhi from the oldies. Therefore a perfect ‘give and take’ formula has been worked out by the dynast and the oldies in the party. The young, talented, ambitious leaders like Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia cannot find any space or fair opportunity or encouragement in such political family establishment and the only way Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia can achieve all the laurels that he aspires for, only by waiting in the queue for another 30 or 40 years. During the waiting period, he must also praise the trio continuously and competitively.

Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia was defeated by congress party in his family bastion Gwalior to avoid a potential challenge to Kamalnath and later he was made apprentice to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in UP knowingly fully well that Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia would fail in his new role. When the congress party lost everything in UP including the dynast Raghul Gandhi who lost his family bastion Amethi to Smirithi Irani of BJP, everyone celebrated Mrs. Vadra and the blame although not visibly reserved or gifted to Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia.

The loser Raghul Gandhi on the other hand became costly, valuable and much sought after person to lead the party. Like how male bees swarm around a queen bee, all most all the sycophants and unwinnable oldies even today swarm around the family and wants only the un-teachable dynast Raghul Gandhi or his sister Mrs. Vadra to lead the party.  On the contrary, Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia will never get any appreciation and the over 70 years old Kamal Nath alone have the last laugh in MP.

Although the resignation of Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia from congress party may prove wise and appropriate for him but the resignation of Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia also come as balm for the oldies in the congress party.

The unwinnable oldies like P Chidambaram, Ahmed Patel, Motilal Vora, Gulamnabi Azad, Anand Sharma, Ghelot, Kamal Nath, Digvijay Singh, Jairam Ramesh etc., can use the resignation of Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia from congress party to show how unreliable are the younger generation whereas the oldies are always trustable and so are their children if they are also given prominent berths in the party.

The family trio is going to be more suspicious, skeptical and detective towards younger leaders who have come to prominence in the party through their merit and hard work because such leaders may challenge the unwise dynast in future. Whereas the oldies will be loyal because they are unsellable political waste bi-products and so are their children if they are also accommodated.

So the congress party shall always remain as a sailor boat of dynastic politics, nepotism, sycophancy and corruption where everyone scratches each other and finds some relief.

The resignation of Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia should not be limited to discuss only about the stinking dynastic culture of congress party and how the family of the trio and unwinnable oldies are destroying the party from within like termites.

Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia not only resigned but also has decided to join BJP under the able leadership of Modi. In his resignation letter, Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia has clearly explained that in congress he cannot serve people; meaning he can only serve the family of the trio and not India. In the present context, his joining BJP clearly tells to the world that Modi is not only honest but also work sincerely and passionately to achieve sab ka vikas.

India must offer a standing ovation to the leadership dynamism of Modi and Amit Shah and Indians must pledge their unconditional support to Modi to make India a great country. Let all of work with same passion and commitment that we have for Modi, to dismantle the congress party politically so that India shall remain safe and Modi can devote his full time to develop India without fearing the congress parasite whether it would infect some part of India.

Jai Hind.

Vadakalai vs Thenkalai- Time to bell the cat & the monkey- Part-II

“…. the first stanza according to the Thengalai cult begins with the words “Sri Sailesa Dayapathram” and invokes the Thengalai guru Manavala Mahamuni, whereas, according to the Vadagalai cult, the first stanza begins with the words “Ramanuja Dayapathram” and invokes the Vadagalai guru Vedanta Desikar. At the conclusion of the recitation of the Prabandhams benedictory verses called Vazhi Tirunamam are recited consisting of 9 stanzas of which the first four are common to both sects, while the last five differ. While both the Vadagalais and Thengalais share a common religious origin and faith and also adhere to their own school of thought, neither of them condemns or rejects the sacred character of the other cult. While so, the divergence between the two rituals outlined above has given rise to the most bitter, unreasonable and vicious fight between the two groups for nearly 200 years.

In this litigation, the dispute centres on the question as to the namam which should adorn the temple elephant. The namams of Vadagalai and Thengalai differ from each other. It is unnecessary to go into the origin or the difference between the two namams. It is sufficient to state that the namam is considered as a very important religious symbol and any violation of the practice of using a particular namam is looked upon as a serious inroad into the religious practice of the other. The dispute as regards the namam in this temple started as early as 1792. The nature of the dispute is revealed in the several decisions of this Court and certain documents relied on by the plaintiffs” By no stretch of imagination the historicity lends  credibility to the divisiveness,  for lack of profundity in it.

Or more recently, in Oct, 2014, a procession came visiting the portals of the High Court, Madras. Intervening in a dispute between two sects of Vaishnavites, Madras High Court asked the Vadakalai (Northerners) sect not to shut the doors of Thiruvendipuram temple in Cuddalore District during a procession by Thenkalai (Southerners)  sect.Justice V Ramasubramanian said doors of Devanatha Swamy Temple managed by Vadakalai sect, should not be closed when their Thenkalai counterparts take out the utsav idol of nearby Manavala Mamunigal temple in a procession on Sunday. He also asked police to ensure that the procession passes off peacefully. “One who is a Vaishnava knows the pain of others, does good to others, does not let pride enter his mind, tolerates and praises the entire world, and does not say bad things about any one”, he said, quoting from Nasinh Mehta’s rendition ‘Vaishnava Janato’. It appears that this advice may not apply to Vaishnavites among themselves.

It is utterly ununderstandable that the religious heads are watching from the sidelines, yielding their remit and space, willingly or otherwise, to a secular court. Surely, the Court is not aspiring to take over the reins of religious practices. Courts do not claim to be the Repository of All knowledge and Theology for one. It is these characters who have taken their ‘honest differences of opinion’ to be settled on the streets, as it were, who are wholly responsible for demeaning the majesty of their Masters. The Masters were Masters.

They had high thinking, noble values and ageless philosophies to leave behind, Saint Ramanuja for one. Those who came after him, were no less  masterly, be it Manavala Mammunigal or Vedantha Desigar (in alphabetical order please). Those that followed these Masters seemed to have revelled in the ‘honest differences of opinion,’ to make out two separate sects and lineage and so on, for themselves. Be that as it may, why is it their Acharyas are watching, all these street fights with violence, and Court battles with visceral hatred. No wonder the Courts are compelled to counsel them like little children fighting over marbles.

The Masters, surely had Marbles. Not these so called followers or devotees. Otherwise, the Court would not have been constrained to say “Those who create ruckus in front of god do not have a place inside the sanctum sanctorum of the temple,” Justice R Mahadevan of the Madras High Court observed on 24th Jan, 2020, while hearing a petition filed by the Tenkalai Sect of Kancheepuram seeking to stay the proceedings initiated against them by the District sub-collector.The issue was connected to the ongoing tussle between the Vadakalai and Thenkalai sects for the last two years. The issue reached the court when petitioners claimed that priests belonging to the Vadakalai sect had obstructed the regular services being rendered by Thenkalai priests. The sub-collector had asked both groups to furnish bonds for Rs 25,000 each recently in connection with the dispute. “The sub-collector directed both parties to execute the bond to maintain peace and tranquillity among devotees. The rights of parties herein are not being affected for worship and recital of Vedas and Prabandams by the said order,” the court said.

As if this was enough, we now have the orders of the High Court laying down a Scheme for the reciting of the Sanskrit and Tamil prabandham, in a court mandated order, to be enforced by the Executive Officer.Observing that the dispute between ‘Vadagalais’ and ‘Thengalais’ should not lead to the chanting of Prabandhams being stopped, the Madras High Court has held that mutual respect towards both Sri Srisaila Dayapathram and Sri Ramanuja Dayapathram are of paramount importance and there cannot be any place for personal animosity or ego as the Temple is a public institution.Justice Subramaniam offered a string of directions which included inviting Thengalai Sect firstly during Pooja festivals and on such invitation the Thengalai Sect shall be permitted to recite the first two lines of Srisaila Dayapathram (initial recital).

On completion of the said initial recital by Thengalai Sect, the Executive Trustee, Sri Devaraja Swamy Devasthanam, shall permit Vadagalai Sect to commence the first two lines of Sri Ramanuja Dayapathram (initial recital) and on their completion of initial recital, then both Vadagalai and Thengalai Sectors shall be permitted to recite Prabandhams jointly.

On completion of Prabandhams, the Thengalai Sect shall be permitted to recite the concluding Mantram “Manavalamamunigal Vaazhithirunamam” and thereafter, Vadagalai Sect shall be allowed to recite their concluding Matram “Desikan Vazhi Thirunamam” and accordingly the process of recitals shall be concluded. If any one of the sects are unwilling to recite their Mantrams and Prabandhams, as per the directions issued by this Court, then the Executive Trustee shall permit anyone of the willing sect to recite the Mantrams and Prabandhams during Pooja festivals. The approved scheme shall be followed with effect from 1st March 2020, Justice Subramaniam said.

What is going on? The internecine tussle between the two sects has meant that a secular court has mandated the Scheme for religious practices. It is no longer amusing or innocuous entertainment. The Pontiffs and the religious leaders of the concerned sects appear to have abdicated their responsibilities or possibly expressed their inability to intervene and broker peace. The limit to remit to their writs is showing and it is not a healthy one. The fissures,  fights and streetfights are insulting to the memories of the Masters. It may be time for the Pontiffs to wield their Thiruthanda? Will they Bell the Cat? Sorry, the Monkey too?

Vadakalai vs Thenkalai- Time to bell the cat & the monkey- Part-I

It is Jan,2020. Desikan’s family is celebrating a wedding, with a thanksgiving Thirumanjana for Lord Narasimha, at Parthasarathy Temple, Triplicane, Chennai. At the prompting of his grandfather, his grandson Ramanujan breaks into Purusha Suktham chanting. Immediately, an Archaka, attached to the temple, asks the boy to ‘shut up’. “You cannot recite this Vadakalai (Northerners) Sampradaya slokas in this Thenkalai (Southerners) temple”. Desigan politely intervened that the small boy was only praying. Another elder Archaka butts in, “Go advise those in Thiruvalluvar Veeraraghava or Kanchi Varadar temples. They never allow Thenkalai Sampradaya recitations. Why should we yield and oblige”. Desigan was stunned into silence. He was shocked but not surprised that a young boy was being tutored all the wrong things, in a rich legacy left behind by Masters who were timeless giants. But he was speechless for he was helpless.

Cut to Feb,2020. Manavalan’s family in the sanctum sanctorum of Vaidya Veeraraghava Perumal, at Thiruvellore. The lead Archaka asked young Vedavalli to sing a Pasuram. She broke into Thirokolur Penpillai Rahasyam. Within seconds the Archaka interjected and said, “Kuzhandai, This is Thenkalai Sampradaya Pasuram. It does not belong here. Please sing a Vadakalai Sampradaya song, if you know. Otherwise, you can move on”, Stunning, yet not surprising again, to Manavalan’s family. The girl did not know why the Archaka who asked her to sing, stopped her. She was silenced from querying, by her panicking mother. Manavalan’s family let it pass like Desikan’s. All of us seem to be letting it pass and for too long.

Yet, it was quite hypocritically amusing for both families to see the Archaka teams happily partaking in the Sanmaanms offered, with respect and devotion. It made no difference to receive the ‘offerings’ from the Vadakalai Sampradaya at Triplicane or from the Thenkalai family at Thiruvellore. Commerce trumped all differences. Nothing strange, for it was nothing new. It was as old as the hills, as they say, though terribly upsetting and unnerving, when it is all meant to be in the service of the Lord. Which Lord and Masters’ were these entities serving or imbibing? Is this the rich tradition and legacy left behind by Ramanujars, Vedantha Desigars and Manavala Mamunis? If that is what the Masters would have wanted, is there not something and everything radically wrong with the construct put on their teachings. What are the Pontiffs of the respective sects doing? Do their writ not run to rein these men in? Or they are also into it, legitimising these divisive tendencies which has percolated and permeated so deep over nearly two centuries now, that they need to settle their disputes and scores before a court of law? Are their religious heads incapable of rising above to sort out the’ honest differences of opinion’ as history records these as?

Even to those of us, not theologians or scholars, it is extremely disappointing, dismaying, frustrating and anguishing that ‘honest differences in opinion’, counted at 18 (Ashta Dasa Bedas), have triggered the pygmies among these fanatics in the respective clans, to keep escalating it, to a mundane/material level to courts of law, for resolution, making a mockery of the highest philosophy of their Masters. What is the philosophical underpinning that is driving the ‘rivals’ yearning for the same Saranagathi (surrender) path? Nothing .

It has all boiled down to- as Sujatha @ Rangarajan, the felicitous and prolific Tamil author, put it in his inimitable, impish style, “If the Acharyas, the clans revere, were around, they would be pained, as to what has come of their ‘honest differences of opinion’. Even as the two clans are marrying into each others’ families, the ‘differences’ have now mutated and morphed into mere symbolism of ‘wearing the forehead mark’, ‘serving meals’ or ‘sashtanga namaskaram number’. So profound the differences have come to be!”

Despite no scholarship in theology, it makes easy perception and understanding to agree with a mischievous friend, “Dei, it is all so simple. Humans have descended to become animals. While Vadakalayars are Monkeys, the Thenkalayars are Cats.” It is no funny statement. There is, in reality, a profound philosophical construct in the attributions made. The destination in life beyond is one. The Lord’s feet. While the Thenkalayars espouse that it is for Lord to catch you by the neck – as a mother cat (Marjari in Sanskrit) would her newborn- Vadakalays believe that – like a monkey (Markati in Sanskrit), the devotee needs to cling to the mother’s bosom- to be carried to Lord’s abode.

What pray one sees a serious a difference of opinion, to become a law and order problem on Which Thiruman to display on the Temple Elephant or whether Sanskrit Prabandham should go first or the Tamil one take pride of place. The kind of ‘civil disputes’ these characters have taken to the courts of law, unto the Privy Council/Supreme Court (mind boggling, to say the least), do not seem to have come to a close yet.

It may be appropriate to capture the historicity of this dispute from a verdict of 9th Sept, 1976 vintage.R. Thathadesika Thathachariar … vs K.V. Alagia Manavala Jeerswamy (Madras High Court). “It would not be out of place to give a short history of this 150 years war of the namams. A short account of the temple, the worship of Vishnu in Southern India and of the rituals and ceremonies in Vaishnavite temples are found in the decision of the Privy Council in Pedda Jiyyangarlu Varlu v. Venkatacharlu (1947-1 Mad LJ 159): (AIR 1947 PC 53). The earliest scriptures, dating from 2500 years ago, are the Sanskrit Vedas of hymns, held gacred by all Hindus. Very much later, Prabandhams consisting of 4000 compositions in the Tamil language were compiled by Al-wars who were Vaishnava devotees in Southern India. Subsequently, the Acharyas or learned Brahmins acted as religious preceptors. Of these, the most famous was Ramanuja, who flourished between 1017 and 1137 A. D., Vedanta Desikar who flourished between 1268 and 1369 A. D., and Manavala Mahamuni who lived between 1370 and 1443 A. D. These Acharyas composed a number of Sanskrit verses in praise of the Deity called Sthothra Patams. The Prabandhams being earlier in origin became part of the ritual of the Vaishnavite temple services and later the Sthothra Patams were also recited on special occasions.

Differences arose among Vaishnavites by about the 14th century as to the form of worship. One section followed Vedanta Desikar and they specialised in the study and exposition of the Sanskrit Vedas and regarded the Alwars and the Prabandhams as entitled to less reverence. They became known as Vadagalais or followers of the Northern cult. The other section, the followers of Manavala Mahamuni, specialised in the study and exposition of the Tamil Prabandhams of the Alwars, and became known as Thengalais or the followers of the Southern cult. There are several Vaishnavite temples in which the Vadagalai cult prevails, while in others, the Thengalai cult prevails. While generally the services are the same in both classes of temples, there are certain features which distinguish Vadagalai and Thengalai rituals.”  The High Court was not finished yet. A fascinating tale that needs re telling for sanity to dawn? (Continued)

From YOGA to Namaste, global acceptance of Hinduism- Jai Modi

0

The corona virus has not only shaken the entire medical fraternity across the globe but also has re-iterated the importance of certain cultural and heritage elements of human civilization of India called Hinduism and its importance to keep the world healthy and happy.

Soon after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister of India in 2014, he not only worked hard for millions of Indians but also for the world community. Modi always believes in ‘Vasudhaiva kudmbakam’ (world is one family), one of the cardinal principles of Hinduism. That is why Modi is considered as leader of humanity and father of sab ka vikas politics in the world.

Modi always wish the world also should remain healthy, happy and prosperous and therefore he promoted YOGA for humanity at large. YOGA is the ‘SPIRITUAL INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY of Indian Hindu sages to humanity.

Modi after enormous and sustained efforts got the acceptance from the UN for YOGA. Today YOGA is practiced by millions and millions of Indians and as well the people who are living in various countries; following different religious practices, culture and food habits.

Although YOGA is the gift of Hindu sages to humanity, Modi never kept YOGA as the sole property of Hindus or of India but realized that practicing YOGA would help the humanity to balance the mind and body equation and certainly YOGA would help humanity to travel towards peace, humility and eternal happiness.

The secularism and religious diversity that exists today in India is only because of the fact that India is a Hindu Rashtra. Hinduism is a sacred cultural tradition of India and every Indian irrespective of their religious faith and practice has Hinduism in their gene. In an absolute sense, every Indian follows Hinduism in some way or other, at least in spirit.

Hinduism and Hindus are similar but not the same. Hinduism is the identity of India and Hindus largely follow Hinduism in an identifiable manner whereas other religions in India follow Hinduism in an esoteric manner which either they may refuse or may not have realized. From microbes to invertebrates to plant kingdom to animal kingdom to even all inanimate objects in India, whether they are organic or inorganic; the wind, the rain, the sea, the climate, why even the space around India sub-continent is filled with Hinduism and its spirit.

Namaste is a wonderful non-body contact method of greeting each other proposed and practiced by Hindus. Today the Corona virus epidemic has reinforced the importance of Namaste than shake-hand culture. Several global leaders are now promoting Namaste than shake-hand culture even in high level two country meetings.

Now the world community must realize the truth that the humanity can survive, prosper and live peacefully only by following Hinduism. Hinduism should be treated as the most essential practice to be followed by every human being at individual level and the countries collectively.

We should not reduce Hinduism to India or only to Hindus.

Hinduism is for the universe, for humanity and Hinduism is the sublime bridge that connects humanity to higher state of living and being level, may be connecting man with God. Modi’s mission is therefore to save global community by promoting Hinduism and its essential; such an attempt should not be seen as communal or majoritarian politics.

It is not India; the entire humanity in the world may perish if the cardinal principles of Hinduism are not protected. Unfortunately Corona virus has to intimidate the global leaders to depart from shake hand custom to Nameste custom of Hinduism.

Indians should pledge their unconditional support to Modi and Amit Shah to make India a great country, the country that is going to shape and design the destiny of the world. Modi is the leader of humanity and father of sab ka vikas mission. Therefore Indians should ward off all those pests in Indian politics, who are corrupt, promote dynastic politics, nepotism, sycophancy and divisiveness.

What the Right needs to learn from the Left!

0

Mohd. Shahrukh was arrested by the crime branch for opening fire on a police officer during Delhi’s Anti Hindu Riots

If the Delhi Riots has shown us something, it is the left-liberal lobby’s capacity to build a narrative. From Bernie Sanders calling it an attack against the Muslim community in the country to India’s very own media houses calling it a state-sponsored ‘Pogrom’, the left has been able to put forward their narrative and most importantly, promote it. If it had not been for the youth going out on the streets and recording videos, the left would have been completely successful in terming it as a Hindu agitation against the minority.

Godhra Train Burning Incident.
The remains of the train in which 59 Hindu Karsewaks were burned alive at Godhra Station

The biggest example of this would be the Gujarat riots of 2002. A classic case where even today, people blame Hindus for killing the Muslims and the then CM Narendra Modi for giving it unofficial permission from the state. Not one article can be found in the prominent media houses where they talk about the burning of the train at Godhra station or the continuous attacks on Hindus in Godhra since ages. While I condemn the way the retaliation happened, I completely understand the agony and the pain with which it took place. Now, look at Gujarat. Do you find any news of communal riots from the state? It has become the epitome of development in the country.

So, why is it that the right-wing struggles to put forward their views but the left is continuously able to spread their propaganda. What are the things that the right needs to learn from the recent happenings?

Below are 5 points which I believe are the most important of the lot.

1. Lack of clarity.

While there is no denying that the Right-wing was the first in realizing the potential of social media, we have been unable to provide clarity with our message. There is a gap between the people and the commentators on social media. Taking the example of the Delhi riots, the right-wing completely failed in explaining the CAA to the common people. The BJP and the GoI should have stepped up and explained each and every points in the Bill to the general public. A lot of things could have been avoided if we would have been able to do so.

2. One bad apple spoils the entire bunch.

We may not admit it in public but deep inside we all know that there are a lot of unwanted elements in the wing which we openly endorse but doesn’t deserve the endorsement. Without taking any names, there are some people on this side of the spectrum that do more harm than good for the entire group. We need to accept the fact that we need to be more pragmatic and our statements should be supported by facts if we really want to counter the narrative. Propaganda should not be countered by another propaganda, but by facts.

3. Reach on different social media platforms.

We need to increase our reach on different social media platforms. While Twitter is one place we can be confident about countering the left narrative, our presence on Instagram and YouTube is negligible. The two mentioned platforms are now the primary source of the left narrative. If we really want our side of the story to reach to the masses, we need to have a presence on both the platforms, even TikTok, in order to counter the opposite propaganda. The sooner we do so, the better it is for each one of us. The left has realized that they cannot win the propaganda battle on Twitter and have very swiftly moved to different platforms.

4. Lack of a proper legal cell.

The right lacks a competent legal cell. There is no better way to put it forward. We do not have a set of lawyers that can put forward our story in the courts with full conviction. Student Unions like ABVP and the Sangh Parivaar needs to step up and build a good legal cell if we want to win cases on the court. This is a field in which we lag way behind the left.

5. Go out and vote.

Probably the most important point. At the end of all the propaganda politics, it is the elections that matter the most. It is the elections that decide which side of the narrative governs the nation. We have to go out and vote if we really want our voice to be heard by the world. If we don’t and the left wins the elections, the majority of this nation will continue being the silent sufferers like it has been for the majority of our history. Your vote will decide whether we will move towards a prosperous and a developed nation or we will go back in history to the same old socialist nation in which the majority suffers.

Hindu Shahi Maharaja Jaipal and the Islamic Invasion

There is a widespread myth about Indian history that the Islamic invaders from central Asia descended upon Afghanistan, then part of the Indian civilization had sort of a free pass in capturing it, that the native rulers were such dumb puppets that they gave no resistance and were also not given support by the rulers of mainland India.

But, when one looks through the history, such accusations prove to be baseless. Indeed, Hindu rulers of Afghanistan did loose to the Islamic invaders. But, that was the result and a lot happened before the unfortunate conclusion of this struggle. Neither it was a free pass to the Islamic hordes, nor the Hindu rulers were supported less from their peers from mainland India. This is a short account of the Hindu Shahi King Maharaja Jaipal, who ruled the present south-eastern Afghanistan and parts of Pakistan from 964 to 1001 CE and encountered numerous Islamic invasions.

Today’s Afghanistan was very much a part of the Indian civilization. Around the early medieval period, the territory had two regional names i.e. Kabul and Zabul, the northern and southern regions respectively. In the late seventh century, both these regions had faced the Islamic armies sent by the Caliph Al- Hajjaj in which though sometimes defeated by them, in the end, the native rulers had emerged victorious and as a result, the Kabul and the Zabul kingdoms remained independent and unmolested for almost 150 years.

This part of history needs special attention as the kingdoms not only defeated the Arab armies but also kept two important passes (Khyber and Gomal) secured for a long time. But for the time being, let us take our attention towards the eighth century Kabul which was governed by a Buddhist dynasty.

In 865 CE, the last Buddhist ruler, Lagaturman was deposed by a Brahmin called Lalliya by Kalhana, the Kashmiri historian. Zabul, on the other hand, was ruled by the Rajput rulers of Bhatti clan.

Though securing the country for almost two centuries, Zabulistan fell to an Arab named Yaqub ibn Lais, the founder of Saffrid dynasty during 867-870 CE. He even snatched fort of Kabul from Lalliya in 871 CE. He also reportedly laid the foundation of Ghazni. But, the Kabul valley was still under the control of Hindu Shahis.

Illustrative Map of Hindu Shahi Kingdom as in 900 CE

Alptagin, the Turkish general conquered Ghazni from the Arab Abu Bakr Lawik in 962 CE. Alptagin and his successors became a source of constant nuisance for Maharaja Jaipal. An important point to note is that throughout history, such attacks on the Indian civilization were always unprovoked and the Kingdom of Hindu Shahis was no exception to this rule.

Piretagin, one of the successors of Alpatagin was the one to launch the first organised attack on the Hindu Shahis in 977 CE. And when Sabuktagin became the ruler of Ghazni, he plundered Kabul valley and amassed a huge booty.

Jaipal quite understood what was happening and was very much worried about the events. He knew Ghazni was growing in power. The constant raids by the Islamic barbarians into the Lamghan/ Laghman area had alerted him. Now, in order to take the offensive, Jaipal made a huge organized attack on Ghazni in 986-987 CE. Though the step was very strategic but without much planning and also to his bad luck, his army suffered due to sudden hailstorm and heavy rainfall.

Knowing what he had to do to survive, he sued for peace on very unfavourable conditions but went back on it after reaching his dominion. This didn’t go down well with Sabuktagin and he launched another raid on Lamghan. Jaipal immediately called for help from the Indian rulers and many rulers provided the same. This fact is usually overlooked but needs to be popularised that when needed, the mainland rulers of India didn’t disappoint. Including the armies of Chauhans of Ajmer, Chandelas of Kalinjar and the Pratiharas of Kannauj, a total of almost 100,000 troops marched on Ghazni. But alas, the army was defeated and Jaipal was taken, prisoner.

The Maharaja secured his release by giving up a large part of his territory up to the banks of Indus. Under immense pressure, he even had to shift his capital from Kabul to Udabhandapur (Waihand, near Peshawar) in 995 CE. In the meantime, Sabuktagin was succeeded by his son Mahmud who was later, probably the first time in history even, given the title of ‘Sultan’ by the Caliph Al Qadir Billah. Mahmud took a vow to wage jihad and annually commit raids on the kafirs.

Maharaja Jaipal during this time tried to construct pathways and roads in the eastern border of his kingdom. After suppressing a revolt in Khurasan, in 1000-1001 CE, Mahmud descended upon the Indian territory and invaded by crossing the Khyber pass. He even reached near Peshawar and snatched some fortresses. Mahmud quite smartly garrisoned the pass and after some time, marched on the Hindu Shahis. He had with himself 15,000 strong cavalry and almost 10,000 ghazis, ready to wage Jihad. Maharaja Jaipal, on the other hand, had only 12,000 cavalries, 30,000 infantry and almost 300 elephants. Jaipal crossed the Indus, met the invader and a huge battle ensued on 27 November 1001 CE. But, the Hindu Shahis were defeated.

Almost all of our army lay dead on the ground. The Maharaja was taken prisoner along with his kinsmen and chief nobles. Andrew Bostom tells us from the account of Utbi that Jaipal, the Hindu Shahiya king of Kabul “his children, his grandchildren, his nephews and the chief men of his tribe and his relatives, were taken prisoners and being strongly bound with ropes were carried before the Sultan like common evil-doers…Some had their arms forcibly tied behind their backs, some were seized by the cheek, some were driven by blows on their neck.”

Bostom continues from the writings of Hodivala about details of humiliation of Jaipal by Mahmud, “publicly exposed at one of the slave auctions in some market in Khurasan, just like thousands of other Hindu captives….(He) was paraded about so that his sons and chieftains might see him in that conditions of shame, bond and disgrace…inflicting upon him the public indignity of commingling him in one common servitude.”

Anandpal, son of Jaipal still took matters in his hand and was successful in securing the release of his father and some of the relatives by giving a heavy ransom. But Jaipal couldn’t bear it. He lit a pyre and burnt himself to death. A. Bostom says that “no wonder Jaipal immolated himself for such humiliation was inflicted deliberately to smash the morale of the captives.” The prisoners of Islamic barbarians once captured, “young or old, ugly or handsome, princes or commoners could be flogged, converted, sold for tuppence or made to work as menials”. But, from here on, a lot more fighting was yet to happen and the resistance was continued by Anandpal. Mahmud, on the other hand, amassed a huge booty and took it to Ghazni.

Here, there are certain points to keep in mind. As mentioned above, the rulers of our frontiers need to be given the credit that they fought and kept the Islamic hoards at bay for a very long time. At a time when entire kingdoms and civilizations were falling like dominoes in front of the Islamic attack, our rulers including the Chalukyas, the Pratiharas, the Hindu Shahis etc kept fighting them.

The Caliphate had started to attack firstly from the sea and were successfully repulsed. Even when Sindh Rajputs succumbed under the attack of Muhammad bin Qasim, it was a combination of good military strategy mixed with a lot of treachery on part of Qasim and even some natives. So, sometimes we successfully defeated them and sometimes we were defeated by better military skills with a zealous attitude of a new religion whose believers were hell-bent on spreading it by the sword.

Despite that they were fighting since the seventh century, 637 CE to be precise when the first expedition was sent by the Caliphate to Thane and was repulsed by our rulers. With the exception of Sindh, the gap is of almost five centuries when India came under Islamic rule by the end of the twelfth century.

But, we also have to accept that despite giving a tough fight, we were defeated and a huge part was played by our lack of military strategy. Our over-dependence on elephants also contributed as elephants were very unpredictable and our sub-par cavalry in front of the Islamic hoards from Central Asia was a bane. Our insistence on following the morals of knightly fighting when none was followed by our enemy has always been our disadvantage. Its better that we learn from history, all the pros and all the cons of our conduct.

The constitution gives us the right to protest but not the right to spread fake or false propagandas

0

Series of protests that happened against the CAA and NRC in the country resulted in the Delhi riot indicates the use, misuse and abuse of social media platforms in recent times. In fact, in the light of the Delhi riot, it is visible after the preliminary investigation that perception that is created in the minds of people against CAA and NRC added fuel to the fire. Spreading lies, falsehoods and concocted statements towards the establishments became the buzzword. There is no denial in the fact that people in a democracy have a right to protest against the policies of the government but the larger question is whether it is right to spread false propaganda to incite violence and sway the people against the popularly elected government in a country like India which is the world’s largest democracy.

Freedom of Speech and India Constitution

People get their right to protest through our constitution under Article 19(1)(a) which clearly states that All citizens shall have the right to freedom of speech and expression. However, such articles are subject to reasonable restrictions. In Beenu Rawat v. Union of India (2013)16SCC 430 it was observed by the Supreme Court that Part III of the constitution of India, as in a poignant fashion enumerated under Article 19(1)(b) read with 19(1)(a) read with Article 21 of the constitution of India gives the right to life and liberty and readily cherishes the idea of a liberal constitutional democracy and the state and its functionaries cannot deprive the citizens of the same, however the same is not an absolute one and the rights can be curtailed by a procedure established by law and one’s expression must not extend to endangering sovereignty of the state as well as putting public morality in jeopardy, one vital part of the same being right to peaceful dissent and protest. one must remember that right without duty degenerates into license to misuse of rights and thus state must curtail such liberty which tries to spread the fake propaganda. In the case of Bimal Gurung V UOI (2018) 15 SCC 480 it was discussed that the right to freedom of speech and expression coupled with a right to assemble peaceably and without arms are constitutionally recognized fundamental rights which are reflected in carrying demonstrations on several occasions. However, any “noisy and disorderly” demonstration, for instance, stone-throwing by a crowd may be cited as an example of a violent and disorderly demonstration and this would obviously not be protected within Article 19(1)(a) or (b).

Myths surrounding CAA

It is now a very well-established fact that people have the right to protest as long as it is peaceful in nature but what about the false narratives being spread by the opposition. The very first attempt was made by spreading the fake news that CAA coupled with NRC is going to take away the citizenship of the Muslims. The author’s first contention is that the rules of NRC have not been framed yet so why are there false claims that it is going to steal the citizenship of Muslims. The BJP is nowadays being called a fascist government but the stark reality of CAA is that it just provides citizenship to religious minorities who have fled religious persecution in Pakistan, Bangladesh or Afghanistan. The government is giving citizenship to them on humanitarian grounds as we have a history with them.

Actually Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) was passed to protect the victim of religious persecution and who came in India before 2014. CAA came to protect the people who were not in support of Jinnah’s two-nation theory and did not get the chance to come to India during partition due to violence all around. Therefore, by giving citizenship to persecuted minorities in Islamic nations if the government is being called fascist then there is a need to change the definition of this word. Protestors at Shaheen Bagh and various other places are showing their dissent towards the new act which is again their fundamental right but in the name of their freedom of expression, it is seen that they are actually spreading and conveying the wrong news.

Recently we have witnessed that several political stalwarts and self-proclaimed activists in the various parts of this country were seen giving hate speeches against the government and on communal line and they were successful in spreading the false deterrent which forced the people to come out and protest against the policies of the government. The seditious comments were actually uncalled for as peaceful protests were actually being called in Delhi, Mumbai Or in Lucknow. Recently, another issue that came into light was the transfer of Justice Murlidhar from Delhi to Punjab and Haryana High Court. There were questions raised by the people upon the independence of the judiciary when Justice Murlidhar was transferred for trashing the Delhi police in court but the reality is that his transfer was recommended by the collegium way before the incident took place. This was another false propaganda that was spread with people claiming that the judiciary is no more independent and transparent.

The Toxic propaganda & incendiary speeches have led to Delhi burning. Some people are claiming it to be anti-muslim riots and there have been riots and murders thereof. Politicians like Tahir Hussain are alleged to have incited violence in the state and is allegedly the murderer of IB officer Ankit Sharma. The whole area around Hussains’s house is vandalized except where his house is situated. This fact very indicates his full involvement in the Riot in the nearby locality.

More than forty-five deaths have been confirmed so far and hundreds have been injured due to the riots that are happening in the national capital. There is a tremendous loss to public property and vandalism all across the state. Parallels have been drawn between North East Delhi and Syria due to the violence in such a harmful manner. All this vandalism has tarnished the image of India abroad. The root cause of all the violence as stated above is actually the false propaganda being spread.

The left has no other choice but to resort to such unprofessional ways as they had suffered a strong defeat in the Lok Sabha elections and they had no other way but to sway the supporters of the NDA government and cause a sense of dismay against the government. In conclusion, the protests and all the vandalism taking place are due to false propaganda being spread which needs to stop otherwise the results can be catastrophic. The constitution gives us the right to protest but not the right to spread fake or false propagandas.
