If conventional #media reports are to be believed, we live in a terrifying, unsafe, chaotic, and hostile environment. Trying to follow the #news every day may be emotionally draining, since one is inundated with some of the most appalling, depressing, and distressing tales. While reading or watching the news is seldom a pleasant experience, many are left feeling overwhelmed by the onslaught of an avalanche of negative stories, spiced up with a constant barrage of criticism. Nevertheless, it does not imply that one should quit consuming conventional news. If you want to scratch that news itch and stop doom scrolling, you may turn to the most reliable news sources.

When you have to endure the constant bombardment of fake news full of doom and gloom, it may cause stress and mental anguish. When our attention span (8 secs) is less than a goldfish’s (9 secs), clickbait news items distract and engage us in something other than what we are supposed to be doing. The more often we engage with conflict-ridden headlines, the more our capacity to concentrate deteriorates. Studies have shown that exposure to negative news may lead to anxiety, mood disorders, mental problems, and can even be addictive.

It doesn’t have to be this way, though. In a year marred by a fatal epidemic, a startling political divide, and widening inequality, there is an ever-greater demand for uplifting, hopeful stories to seed optimism and rekindle lost hope in a disheartened society.

Positive news #channels do not have to be sluggish in their reporting, and at the same time, they need to adopt a more deliberate and sensitive approach to reporting conflict, disasters, scandals, and politics. The reporting and dissemination of the news has to be accurate, unbiased, independent, fostering hope, objectively positive, committed to high quality, and focus on what is really going on. It is about rigor and relevance in journalism, with pursuit and emphasis on progress, possibility, and solutions as its goals. Positive news can be an antidote to the barrage of negativity that dominates the mainstream media. This sort of positive news journalism should catalyze billions of individuals to begin each day with a positive solutions mindset, to accelerate the shift in human consciousness. When things do veer off into less desirable territory, channels should stay focused on the positive and not descend into squabbling and mud-slinging. Channels can still be profitable while still focusing on positive things in all aspects.

In the face of the constant onslaught of negativity broadcast by the mainstream media, positive news channels like Good News Today may be a welcome relief.
