PM Modi’s security catastrophe

Narendra Modi; Honorable prime minister of India is a person of great interest. He is the leader of a nation with diverse, views  ideas and ideologies. Yes, many dislike him, many hate him but one cannot sidestep the fact that he is Indias Prime Minister. A person who has many enemies, he should be protected at all costs. People may not agree with him from time to time but the majority of Indians  have chosen him. I will lay down my life to protect his office if I have to. I will dilute my blood with our holy turmeric turn it orange to keep our flag that way. I will extract colour from green leaves to keep the colour green on our flag. Most Indians share my sentiment. Was there a security lapse in our prime ministers movement yesterday ? The answer is yes there was. As a daughter of a decorated police officer who is no more I know a few things. When my beloved father was DIG range Ferozepur I watched him on 15th August protecting with all his might Beant Singh assassinated chief minister of Punjab. Only to find him assassinated 15 days later in Chandigarh.

My point being let’s delve into my father’s brain for a second when he was DIG range Ferozepur under the DGP Mr. K.P.S Gill. My father would have personally sanitized all routes where the Prime Minister could have traveled on even if there were no plan of road travel. He would have communicated to all SSPs under Ferozepur range to have policemen standing on each perimeter that could be a possible route for PMS cavalcade. Already that should have happened yesterday. All senior officials from Punjab including the CM should have personally escorted the PM. The CM and DGP Punjab enjoy a heavy protection around themselves. This protection detail should have been pilot for our PM, along with SPG. Coming back to Beant Singh I heard my father who was up all night on 14th of August in Ferozepur make each and every step for Chief ministers arrival for the Independence day programme in Ferozepur.

There was Intel that there is a credible life threat to Beant Singh at that time. My father averted a crisis only to be taken off this position as DIG range Ferozepur when Beant Singh was assassinated and the new CM took charge who changed and transfered The DGP who transferred my father back to Chandigarh to an ordinary post. Why are our bureaucrats who have studied hard to become a civil servant at the mercy of the state CM who can come anytime and change their position. Transfer them on a whim.

This article is also a plea for the Centre to take back control of powers from CM. They cannot and should not change the police machinery aka its hardworking officers to suit their own political agenda or whoever fills their pockets in some cases. Yesterday a real catastrophe could have happened. Here we have a CM with no experience hiding under the garb of Corona  yet giving a press conference and saying it was a mistake. Well too little too late Sir. Steps that should have taken place:

1. DGP, IGP, SSPS ALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN PRESENT AT FEROZEPUR AND HALF AT BHATINDA.

2. CM OR DEPUTY CM OR CHIEF SECRATARY SHOULD BE PRESENT AT ARRIVAL OF PM

3. ALL THESE FORCES, STATE POLICE, INTELLIGENCE BUERAUE AND SPG SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN CONSTANT CONTACT AND THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A GO AHEAD BY DGP PUNJAB ALWAYS SINCE HIS FIRST DUTY WAS TO SANITISE ALL POSSIBLE ROAD ROUNDS EVEN IF HE HAD INFORMATION THAT PM WAS TRAVELLING BY HELICOPTER TO FEROZEPUR BY DEFAULT MODE.

4. AT THE FLIP OF A COIN AT YHE LAST MINUTE PMS ACTUAL METHOD OF TRANSPORT IS DECIDED. SO ALL IN ALL I WOULD NOT CALL IT A LAPSE BUT A FAILURE OF PUNJAB POLICE AND ITS CM.
