The fusion of religion and politics happened for the first time when MK Gandhi fused together a purely Nationalist political movement of Non-Cooperation with a purely religious movement of Khilafat - It has always puzzled me as to why a purely religious movement was amalgamated with a Nationalist movement.

Earlier the dividing line was drawn between Communal BJP and Secular TMC. Then Congress and Left Parties have come together with more secularism to fight Communal BJP and less secular TMC.
