Social distancing in a civilized society

Social distancing or physical distancing, in simple terms, means keeping certain distance from the people around you. With the outbreak of Novel corona virus disease or COVID-19, the Government had been recommending the public to practice social distancing so that the said disease does not spread easily. But, other than the COVID-19 issue, it should be understood, that social distancing is also an etiquette. Less contact between you and other people will not only stop the spread of disease like corona virus but also many other germs. It will also ensure the prevention of harassment in country like India, where such incidences are constantly taking place.

When we think of a civilized society, we think about people of polite nature, well-mannered people: a society that works towards social and cultural development. An example can be a country like Japan, a country praised for its manners and customs. Proper manners are highly encouraged in Japan, whether it be their seating position, eating habits, greeting people etc where shaking hands is the most uncommon practice. The code of etiquette in Japan governs the expectations of social behavior in the country and is considered very important.

Therefore, it is important to understand that ‘risking’ means vulnerability towards the infection. For a better place to live, it becomes indispensable in the present situation, with the outbreak of pandemic nature of the COVID-19, that a country and its citizens should ensure the proper hygiene and also practice social distancing.

This highly infectious fatal disease (COVID -19) gave us an opportunity to bring this noble habit of ‘social distancing’ into practice in our day-to-day life and adopt this habit for our future betterment.
