It is time for the nation to celebrate as on 12th June 2021, we complete two decades of the first successful testing of the cruise missile BrahMos. Missiles are referred in ancient Hindu Vedas as “Astra” and the Mantras for controlling the launch stages of Astras can be related to modern day programming of the missiles. The scriptures on these deadly weapons were later concealed for sake of survival of mankind i.e., to prevent any Idikasa. In modern history, Nazis were the first to build long range V2 missiles. USA immediately after World War II hired German engineers for their missile programs.

It is an established fact that Adolf Hilter in 1930’s send lot of expeditions to India to learn and gather arcane knowledge on Astras i.e. missile technology including gaining understanding of different propulsion theories like Laghima (how to launch into air), Antima (the cap of invisibility) and Garima (how to become heavy enough to cross a river at high speeds like Hanuman did to reach Ravan’s Lanka). Infact Adolf Hilter invited Pandit Dandibhatla Vishwanatha Sastry to decode the Sanskrit codes from Yajur Veda and Athar Veda and help his scientists learn the application of age-old theories. Rajahmundry born Vishwantha Sastry is among the greatest Veda pandits of Andhra Pradesh.

The portrait of the Pandit still hangs at University of Frankfurt at Germany in appreciation to his critical support to German scientists in reengineering the hidden treasures of Vedic science. It pushed the world into another idikasa i.e., arms race of different types of astras (missiles) based on different shastras (launch vehicles) and different mantras (different programming language determining different speeds / payload etc.)

India’s modern day most special Astra is the BrahMos missile.  BrahMos derives the name from Indian river Brah-maputra and Russian river Mos-kva.  The missile is developed by BrahMos Aerospace viz. is a joint entity of Indian DRDO and Russian NPOM. In this age of ballistic missiles when some even have intercontinental ranges, the world defense press never misses to capture minute details every time India tests her BrahMos.

BrahMos is World’s fastest cruise missile. It can travel at supersonic speeds of Mach 3 throughout its flight.  It has a surface variant, a submarine variant and an air variant thus completing the tactical cruise missile triad for India. When BrahMos was tested on Sukhoi 30 MKI, it created a record for first supersonic steep dive. It can hit Islamabad within a minute of its launch from Srinagar.

Brahmos is a two-stage missile with liquid propellant ramjet engines. It is three times faster than Pakistan’s Babur Cruise missile and four times heavier than the American Tomahawk Cruise missile. Thus, BrahMos generates up to 32 times more kinetic energy compared to any contemporary cruise missile making it the most lethal one. It works on a “Fire and Forget” principle guiding itself by a self-contained inertial navigation system consisting of combination of gyroscopes, organic radar, accelerometers, and infrared optics Global Positioning System. Missile tests have established it to be precise enough to hit a particular building in midst of various other buildings. As a cruise missile, it can fly as low as about 15 meters from ground to avoid detection by radars or as high as 14 Kms for increased fuel efficiency to achieve longer range. India is in talks with Vietnam and Philippines for supplying Brahmos missile which shall boost them to counter an expansionist China at South China sea.

Independent India is a land of knowledge, prosperity, tranquility, brave soldiers, cricket, and the canvas of democracy. She is the emerging future of the World. Her past, present and future continues to be threatened by forces of evil and by wars led by religious fanatic military generals. The strength of the nation lies in the strength of the military which is by the people acting as the savior of the people. To keep herself in the lead, India is now developing BrahMos II which can cruise at hypersonic speeds Mach 8. For now, it is time to celebrate two decades of “BrahMos” success!
