As we know scripts can be scary; they need not necessarily be true. And it must be stated upfront: democracy is not in peril; it is merely undergoing change. Some people equate the two, but that happens every time a comfortable world order is disturbed.
Politics as we knew it might get changed, but that has also happened with the way we communicate, with the way our families are structured and with the kind of medicines we take.
Change doesn’t always mean progress, but the status quo isn’t always the best result either. It’s merely the most convenient.
In Modi Raj, the military is free as never before to take its stances, 2017-18 have been the years of landmark judgement by the Supreme Court of India. The country has experienced great economic changes. The government policies like Ujjwala, Jan Dhan Yojna, Atal Pension Yojna along with some unorthodox initiatives viz. Swacchta Abhiyan, Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao, Digital India, Yoga Diwas have boosted India’s soft power and generated the ways of employment along with this they brought the positive social changes in our society.
And so, in spite of being on a lower row for a while, Modi Raj gave us many happy moments. And, given its resilience, it would be fair to expect a few more in the years ahead.
Modi’s decisions of Notebandi, Surgical strikes and GST were brave, courageous, some might say foolhardy but he would have slept well at night knowing he had given the nation everything he had. And he can now ask for the same with his countrymen. In an era of political manoeuvering and lying, missiles and rockets and killing and corporate hoodwinking, it seems a preety noble thing to do.
My answer to those people who say there is a sense of fear among the public in Modi Raj, “If Modi was a pill, he would never come sugar-coated. No sugar coating but the man is worth his salt.”
BJP and Congress both accusing each other of not playing according to the ‘spirit of the democracy’. Hopefully they know what they are saying because I don’t and I don’t think anybody does. The spirit of democracy is now merely a stick to beat people with and I’m afraid anyone who believes otherwise is being naive.
And so Modi Raj has not been the years of fears, merely one of change.
